It is actually a bug. We are currently investigating a fix and hope to have it fixed as soon as we can. We agree, we want you to see people’s names.

Thank you so much Devon! I’m really happy to hear that this is a bug and you guys want us to see player names. I’m really looking forward to forging friendships across servers and seeing how other WvW guilds play. Last night when I was running around on the Overgrowth team I saw some players from Aggression [Agg] and many other guilds. :-)

Rank 30 WvW Required for Gift of Battle Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

The reason they’re doing this is because they want to return the old requirement of WvW participation. Before you had to play WvW to get badges, now the achievement chests are giving badges like hotcakes and practically nullifying the requirement.

That is utter bullkitten. They’ve basically made it impossible for a casual player to obtain a legendary without (shocker!) buying one outright off the TP.

I’ve done my map completion, I’ve gotten everything but the precursor, and I’ve played a lot of WvW just for the heck of it. I’m not exactly a casual player, but I’m not hardcore by any means, yet I’m only rank 11. I could understand if it was rank 10. That is achievable and by the time you hit that you’ve learned a lot about WvW.
Making it rank 30 certainly won’t help the issue of zerging either.
What next Anet? Require completion of fractals up through level 50 in order to get world completion?
They should just stop this crap and remove the legendary crafting process and sell them directly in the gemstore for RL cash only purchases. That’s what they want.

You have not learned a lot about WvW at r10, try r100.

After reading through several dozen posts by other people and observing the situation these are the main reasons why people dislike the new pick:

1. P2W giving out free crafting materials, this is more than the 0c cost per gather on infinite tools.
2. Gear treadmill for infinite gathering items that cost real $$$.
3. No prior warning about having old gathering tools made obsolete.

MAMP vs. Clockwork Pick, not cool -_-

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

I’ve done the calculations too and I know how long it takes to recoup the cost of buying the infinite gathering tools, that’s not the main problem. The MAMP that I bought 3 weeks ago was the best item available at the time and it was discounted 25% because of a special sale. The two items normally sell for the same price and one has added functionality over the other. Also Watchwork Sprockets can change in price, they were 1s just a few weeks ago, and by finding the right gathering paths I can gather a stack of assorted Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum in one hour (50 Sprockets = 50s, or 25s right now). It makes gathering significantly more profitable and if I had known a month in advance I wouldn’t have bought my infinite tools. it’s not fair that my MAMP has been made obsolete less than a month after it was on sale.

There are 3 reasonable solutions I’ve thought of so far:

1. The functionality should be removed from the Clockwork Pick and the buyers should be offered a refund.
2. The functionality should be added to all of the mining picks currently available.
3. Players who bought infinite mining picks during the New Year’s sale and earlier should be offered to delete their items and get a refund.

If I can get a refund on mine I’d buy the new Watchwork one, it’s that good compared to the earlier versions, and that’s what I have a problem with.

Just three weeks ago the Molten Alliance Mining Pick was state of the art and there was no news about releasing higher quality gathering picks. I spent 170g (or 56.66g for MAMP) to get my infinite gathering tools thinking they would be a long term investment. Less than a month later my cash shop item has been made obsolete by this new one. In the future, could the logging axes and harvesting sickles give out other items, like Azurite Orbs or Pristine Toxic Spore Samples? Why should my MAMP become less valuable and useful one month after I bought it when I had no prior knowledge to save my gems and wait for these new and improved items?

This situation is unfair and it sets a bad precedent. I’ll hold off on gem store purchases from now on until I know that the final version of an item is going to be released, so I don’t waste my money on obsolete goods.

I was just in WvW and it dawned on me. “Report to the 3 crusaders. Players: 0/100”

The devs know how many players it takes to have a chance at passing the event. Have a capture point and require the right number of players to stand inside it to get the event going. The event starts 10 minutes after the capture point is full. Have a cooldown of 15 min. at the end of each run before it can start again. No more waiting 2 hours for the event timer.

This is the reason why I can’t stand Automated Response, Berserker Stance, and Diamond Skin, they basically guarantee a won 1v1 against condi classes. And it’s not the type of advantage that you can easily recover from, it’s a hard counter having to do with specific skills and builds. Because I’m a math oriented person here is an example. If a hambow is fighting a condimancer and doesn’t use B-Stance, let’s say the chance of winning is 50-50. Once the warrior uses the stance it goes to 80-20 or 90-10. This is too much IMO, condi classes shouldn’t have to completely avoid fights with certain builds.

I think you are talking about hotjoin in all this and I’ve noticed the same trend. Hotjoin matches are rarely 5v5 and NvN, it’s usually NvN-1 and the outnumbered team hardly ever has a chance of winning. I guess the developers should evaluate whether or not they think this is disruptive to the spirit of hotjoin. A lot of people say that hotjoin is casual so people should be able to leave anytime. I don’t disagree with this, but I do think the autobalance and the ability to swap teams can be improved. People usually swap teams only when their team is losing, then they wait for autobalance to kick in. They should do something to stop the 5v4 matches and to stop people from only jockeying to get easy wins on the winning team.

Someone posted this above but it’s so important that I have to repeat it. Because people can come and go and change teams anytime, there is no commitment on the losing player’s part to staying on the same team to try and win. They can leave and join another match, or if it’s a 5v4, they can spectate to create a 5v3, then when the teams get autobalanced into 4v4 immediately join the winning team. Stop playing hotjoin in order to win matches, instead play to improve your skills and win fights against other players, play to win team fights, try your best to hold the point your on. Do what is ideal for your team in the current situation but don’t expect your teammates to be smart enough to do the same. You will have a lot more fun in hotjoin if you don’t commit to winning the matches.

Now if you do wanna commit to winning matches, begin playing SoloQ and TeamQ, people there DO play to win.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

XacTactX.6709

Wait. Stop for a second. Think.

500 Badges of Honor are required for the Gift of Battle, this was done along with WvW completion to force people to spend a significant amount of time in WvW. The achievement point rewards and WvW rank rewards have showered us with Badges and removed the actual participation aspect, but the map completion is still there. This is probably tied to the fact that legendaries can be displayed in PvE and WvW, so they want you to have some WvW experience before being able to display it there.

1. Wait until your server changes to a different color.

2. Go to the enemy borderlands when your server is raiding on their maps.

The Big Spender achievement is up today. What I love about this achievement is how it requires 25 badges of honor to be spent, but the cheapest items that you can buy all require 6 or 12 badges. So the end result is you either spend 30 badges, 5 more than you would need for the daily, or you buy WvW gear and ascended trinkets, which cost 6-10x the 25 badges for the daily. I would think that ANet would use logic when it picks the amounts for the daily achievements.

Back in the day achievement chests and WvW rank chests didn’t give massive amounts of badges of honor. Assuming that every two kills would drop a badge you would need 1,000 kills to get the 500 badges. WvW has always been a basic requirement for having a legendary. Try to be proactive and do WvW world comp when your server is a different color, and when they are pushing into the enemy borderlands.

XacTactX.6709

At risk of sounding politically incorrect, my opinion is that if you aren’t level 80 with Exotic gear yet, wait until you are before doing dungeons, it’s a much more enjoyable experience for the player and the group. A new player that has hit level 80 with Exotic+ gear is a lesser burden than a level appropriate one. When I do AC story runs for daily achievements, I use my main, then swap to my alt at the end for the experience. I did this a week ago with my level 78 mesmer. Using level appropriate toons is a sacrifice that I don’t make.

When it comes to being new to the game, defer to the experience of the teammates and follow them. Stack in the corner with your teammates for the spider queen (AC), listen to your teammates and stand in a circle during the gate controller (CoF1), count down 3 2 1 before deactivating the laser beams (CoE1), etc. Being new to the game becomes a massive hindrance only when you stop listening to the guidance of more experienced players.

You guys can’t forget one thing when you talk about flexibility in the daily system. The daily achievements become a requirement for the top 1,000 leaderboard, and the top 1,000 leaderboard is a competition that people do. If ANet decided to eliminate the top 1,000 leaderboard so that people can’t compare themselves to each other, having to spend 3-5 hours every day doing dailies would no longer be a problem. It becomes a problem when the entire AP leaderboard incentivizes people to live unhealthy lifestyles and grind out one repetitive aspect of the game.

The comparison to limiting the number of dungeon runs per day is accurate, but it also doesn’t tell the whole story, because players are not forced to do every dungeon path in the game every day for the sake of competing on a leaderboard.

If AP from dailies and monthlies would be removed I would gladly give up my daily and monthly AP I earned so far. Its a price worth paying.

I have to agree with this. The funny thing about grinding daily AP is how much it padded all of our achievement points with practically no enjoyment. Before they added the extra ranked PvP grind you could usually get 18 AP per day from doing the dailies, or 126 points per week, 256 points in two weeks. 256 AP / two weeks is more than all of the living story achievements that have ever been released. They actually took the reward structure and flipped it on its head. Where average players would want to concentrate on living story because it’s new content that disappears in 2-4 weeks, the best way to pad our AP score has always been grinding all of the dailies. The priorities need to be rearranged. Most of what I just said was off topic to your post but I wouldn’t mind one second, it would help me forget about all the time I wasted doing what felt like a prison sentence.

Besides throwing out that idea, it’s good to see this thread is still active. Keep it alive so they don’t forget! :-)

How can I show casuals the importance of TS?

in WvW

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

Thanks for all the responses guys, I’ve gotten some good answers to my question in the last 100 posts or so. Let me go through and list some of the notable ones.

1. Run tagless so only TS users can find the zerg. This would encourage people who are committed to WvW to get on TS, but those people usually are already on TS, they’re not the problem. The casuals who I need to target would probably not see a commander on the map and move to another borderland.

2. Make the server TS into a community hub where we run dungeons and other open world content like Teq. This sounds good, we used to do Teq 5 days a week and during our runs we could get 100 people on TS. If people feel like the TS server is one big guild family they might enjoy getting on more.

3. Take the time to explain why TS is in the best interests of the players and the server, how to download it, etc. Good idea, in the end not being on TS is a matter of mindset, the players who don’t get on think they can’t gain anything from it, or comparatively little. Some may not have it installed, and may not know where to download it.

Finally, I’d like to address some of the skeptical responses I’ve received. I’ve read several dozen responses along the lines of “I’m proficient enough to not need to be on TS, as long as I concentrate on following the commander”, and “I don’t like talking to strangers and hearing them talk about random things”, and “You can’t force anyone to get on TS!”. All of these responses are beside the point, the casual players I’m talking about aren’t proficient enough to stay on the tag all the time. Even I, without being on TS, lose my focus and squirrel, or I get too far away from the tag to be prepared for an unexpected zerg fight. Having to talk to strangers and sometimes have off topic conversations can be problematic, but if you get on TS often enough you’ll start to see friendly faces. When I get on TS I recognize about half of the names that I see and the voices that I hear. The commander on TS can also get priority status so that no one can talk over him. Finally, no I’m not forcing anyone to get on TS, there is no way for me to compel people to get on if they don’t want to. In an ideal world, the players in WvW will want to win badly enough to take advantage of all the available resources, and having a zerg on TS is one of the biggest resources they can take advantage of.

ArenaNet is making a decision when it gives a maximum opportunity for people to spend 3-4 hours every day doing PvE, WvW, and yoloq/tourneys in order to get 18-22 daily achievement points. It may be good to give people a choice in how they earn daily achievements but the main point here is that the top 1,000 leaderboard is completely determined by this detail. ANet is creating a competition for us where we have to spend 3-4 hours a day doing dailies to stay competitive, that’s the main problem here. I’ve been doing it since May and the Secret of Southsun and it’s turned into a full time job. ANet should change the incentive structure for dailies so all players can earn the maximum daily amount in less time.

The amount of time ANet is asking achievement hunters to put in doing their dailies is ridiculous. I’m not doing the Team Arena or Toxic Consumer achievements, one requires way too much commitment and the other requires 1.5g. I’d rather keep my gold and my free time and stop trying to get into the 1,000 leaderboard, I’ll be a lot happier at the end of it.

I also encourage all the other achievement hunters to speak up here and voice their unhappiness about the amount of time required to do all the dailies.

A QoL change to Daily Achievements

in Suggestions

Signed, the quantity of achievement and the quantity of time that is required to do all the daily achievements is unreasonable. If I understand correctly what Ewon is saying is that instead of having 18 possible opportunities for achievements every day turn it into 5 possible opportunities so that completionists don’t have to devote hours and hours every day grinding out dailies. I’ve been trying to get into the top 1,000 AP leaderboard (I have 10,4xx right now) and it’s not fun having to do so many dailies, it doesn’t show skill level, just how devoted a person is.

With the new daily PvP achievements I think ANet is moving away from Ewon’s suggestion and making completionists commit even more. I’m sad about this, and I won’t be doing 100% of the daily achievements anymore.

Achievement points and luck

in Fractured

XacTactX.6709

In the past two weeks I’ve done 7 full fractal runs and brought my personal reward level from 30 -> 36. In that time I got Jade Maw twice and Mai Trin 5 times. I never got the Molten Firestorm fractal so that I could get the 5 achievement points for it. As an achievement hunter this is troubling for me, and now with the Wintersday update, the Fractured! achievements are no longer available.

It’s not realistic to expect players to complete achievements by luck, or forcing them to beat the first 3 fractals over and over again in the hope of getting the last level they need. I’d like to see the time for Fractured! get extended to one month instead of two weeks.

Whisper me in game please, I’m paying 5g if you give me your slot for the molten boss fractal. Luck hasn’t been my friend lately.

EDIT And I will be online for the next 5 hours, after that this will not apply anymore. Please whisper me ASAP, no I’m not joking or trolling.

How can I show casuals the importance of TS?

in WvW

What I have noticed about my server (Dragonbrand) is that unless there is a guild group on the map, only 25-50% of the players in our zerg will be in the TS channel. I advertise our server’s TS as much as I can to get more people listening but the number of people never goes above 50%. I feel like a lot of the players who join our map zergs do not understand how important voice chat is for winning zerg fights. How can I show the usefulness of voice chat to people who don’t use it, and don’t want to try? I want to change the culture of our server, because I have a feeling that the casuals on the T1 and T2 servers are more likely to use voice chat than we are.

I think this is a serious problem for my server, I’ve seen situations where our zerg was the same size as the enemy’s but our commander would not engage because he knew the enemy was more organized (staying tight, stacking might, etc.).

No defeat, no competition in S1

in WvW

Guys, I’d like some input from the T1 and T2 players. My question is, let’s say that during a certain time zone, your server normally has two maps queued, and an active presence on the other two maps. If the server starts playing against a higher rated server that has significantly higher coverage, does that make people stop playing? I’m 99% sure that the answer is yes, but who stops playing? I always thought that the people getting affected by low morale are the casuals who enjoy easy fights. If the WvW guilds on your server have scheduled weekly raids, surely they would keep the same raid schedule no matter who they fight, right?

I guess my question is, do casual players only get affected by low morale, or do organized guilds also get hurt by it?

Am I supposed to be receiving 1/4 of the relics that I used to get? This change was not documented in the patch notes.

I’m talking about three servers here,

Blackgate
Fort Aspenwood
Henge of Denravi

Although their coverage and WvW participation are in different leagues, they all won 7 rounds undefeated. Besides the first week match with BG/JQ/SoR all of the matches that these 3 servers had were blowouts, the competing servers never had a chance. The players on these servers are not to blame, they all should enjoy the rewards they earned, however I think it will be unhealthy for WvW in the long term when some servers have a monopoly on winning. I’d like to see more competitive matches in Season 2, WvW will be more fun for all of us if that happens.

And I’m from Dragonbrand, I’m not sore about anything, we never had a chance at 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.

Too Toxic for begginers?

in The Nightmare Within

The toxic events are group events, they should be done with at least one friend, preferably get a group of 5 and it should be manageable. Even with a fully geared 80 you have to be careful and not agro more than one vet at a time because they hit quite hard. I don’t blame you for having trouble soloing it. The giant map marker doesn’t help the situation.

Piece of advice

You had a bad experience with a group of griefers, that shouldn’t be mistaken for guild groups. If three players from random guilds have a conspiracy to kick you and sell your spot they’ll do it. The guildies also don’t have to represent their main guild, they can rep random guilds or no guild. If a few guildies and I can’t get a full guild group we get randoms like any other group would, we don’t do it to sell their spot.

There are threads popping up in the Fractured living story section asking about this, a clarification by the developers would be helpful.
