1 – Defending, scouting, and upgrading wins matches.
2 – Scouting and upgrading is generally thankless, always unrewarding.
3 – Fighting is the most fun, drawn out siege wars are boring.
4 – People are bad because they’re ignorant, they improve when they get on voice and see organized groups in action.

When are the matchups for the tournament going to be decided? Please let us know so we can plan ahead.

The matchups could be decided on Friday the 14th (preseason transfer prices determined), the 21st (week before), or the 28th (day of tourney). IDK if the preseason transfer prices are linked to the matchup.

I think everyone should be judged by the same standard. If the devs think the required rank is too high and they lower the effort with higher rewards, the benefit should extend to the veteran players.

Several times the devs have said they are thinking about reimbursing players for the 1300 rank/win that they missed in the first year of release. Since then I haven’t heard anything about this, so I did some math. The players already received some rank points when they won, 200 rank per win before, and they usually scored 100 points per match. So let’s say ANet deducts 300 rank and for each tournament win in the past, they give 1,000 rank points.

There is at least one player who apparently has over 10k tourney wins. At 1,000 rank points per win, the player would receive 10,000,000 rank. If the player got a full 1,300 rank per win, they would get 13,000,000 rank. Rank 80 “only” requires 8,971,500 rank.

TLDR: If ANet reimburses players with rank for their past tourneys, some players may be close to, or already have Dragon rank.

Make an account at www.dragonbrandforums.com and make a thread in the meet and greet section.

We have queues during NA prime usually on 1 or 2 maps, on reset night between 1 to 3 maps. Activity is good during NA, OC, and SEA, and low during EU. We just recently made friends with WET and they are excellent roamers, there are some other small guilds and militia roamers. 1 or 2 towers are usually claimed in EBG and they rarely have scouts.

Suggestion: PvP player models

I am modeling this suggestion on the CDI topics that ANet had made recently. Please tell me what you think about the suggestion, how it can be improved, and other similar ideas about race and player models.

The goal of my suggestion is to standardize the look of animations and player models in PvP. Right now each race has its own size and skill animations. Some races like norn and charr are easier to read than the rest, and asura are more difficult to read. I have to squint to see the skill animations on asura players, and I feel this is against the spirit of both PvP and race, because race should not affect gameplay.

Add a new option in the graphics settings called PvP player models. If the player checks the box, they can select one of the five races from a drop-down menu, and all allied and enemy player models change to use this race. A more advanced version might let the player select one race for teammates and another for enemies.

Some risks from this suggestion would be less personalization in terms of fashion. Players will not be able to differentiate themselves with their weapon and armor skins because the race change will alter their appearance. This might make it harder to attract players from other parts of the game to PvP, especially those who value the look of their character. (I think the improvement to gameplay is better than the cost in fashion, however I only speak for myself on this).

They could make overflows selectable and give them numbers so people can coordinate and join their friends in the same one, also give the overflow an official meaning as a specific map, not just “an overflow”.

I’ve had an idea about matchmaking, take the average rank of the 5 players on each team. In this case

Red: 23
Blue: 67

Considering that R23 player has about 70,000 rank points and R67 player has 2,000,000 rank points is it a surprise that red lost. Not for me, and the matchmaking system is horribly flawed for letting this type of match happen.

I need to get triple play as one of the last achievements and what happens is when I load into the main map at x:05 the “defend the rally point” at Postern Ward has already failed. How am I supposed to get this when it fails before I can get there? It’s only the first event that’s giving me trouble, the following ones have plenty of time.

This drives me crazy too, it’s part of a bigger problem where the teammates don’t fight as a team and focus fire. They think “Well I can’t kill the bunker or any of his teammates by myself, might as well play sides now”. No bro, no, call some targets maintain some poison score some kills.

One time I was making it rain on skyham, and I targeted a random guy who wasn’t fighting anyone. He captured one of the side points and started running away, and the laser hit him just as he ran on top of the breakable panel. I died of laughter.

Guys, one of the biggest complaints I see about the PvP in this game is lack of skill balance. What I overwhelmingly hear is that some builds are so strong that they discourage diversity (hambow, bunker, decap, thieves) and getting changes in the form of balance patches takes ages. This is the only MMORPG I’ve played, I only have 6 hours of playtime on DotA2 so that doesn’t count. If you have played PvP in other games (especially MOBA games because I think GW2 is trying to imitate this) could you please tell me what made their skill balance good, and how long did it take for balance patches to address problems?

Proposal Overview Dredge as a double shard.

Goal of Proposal To make players feel adequately rewarded for the time spent in the dredge fractal. My anecdotal experience tells me that dredge takes as long as two standard shards.

Proposal Functionality At the end of the first shard the group has a chance to receive a double shard, in this case dredge, and finishing the shard counts as the 2nd and 3rd levels, taking the group to the boss shard.

Associated Risks It’s a new concept, it will take time to inform players about double shards. Also, research should be done to see if dredge really takes as long as two shards for a standard group, I have a feeling it does.

Would sPvP Make Me Better at WvW?

Yes, you can learn to 1v1 better by playing PvP, however there are a few things to keep in mind. You should play a build that is similar to the one you will use in WvW. Playing a highly specialized build like bunker guard or decap engi which only focuses on sustain will not help you as much as playing a roaming type build. You will be able to get way more fights in the same unit of time in PvP than you will in WvW, so your overall skills will improve faster by playing PvP. PvP will also teach you the most important thing which is to anticipate the enemies actions. Example the enemy is a warrior so you know he has stability, you learn to check his effects bar and wait until stability goes away before using CC. You see an enemy guardian has a knockback skill in the downed state so you use blind block and invuln to ignore the effect. The biggest thing when fighting other players is to understand what kind of abilities they have and how to respond, and you can learn most of this in PvP (to the extent that enemies use the same skills and tactics).

Also please look at custom arenas, there are lots of 1v1 servers where people go exclusively to 1v1 and not capture points. You can practice fighting specific builds and classes if you have trouble with them.

My question is: how many players do each of these skills effect? If they do have an AoE cap, is it 5 players per second, maybe 5 players for the full duration of the skill? I’ve heard that Static Field has no cap at all, please help me with the other skills and correct me if I’m mistaken about this.

The problem I see with this skill is that the bleeding and burning are made for condi builds, and the vuln enhances direct damage. Because of the random nature of the skill sometimes you get really lucky and get a handful of bleeds/burns, other times you get unlucky and get a handful of vulns. My suggestion is to lower the duration of the burning and bleeding slightly and remove the vulns. Since the burning is only one second long, maybe leave that one the way it is and lower the bleeding to 4-5 seconds. I do not want to increase the overall power of the skill, I want to reduce the uncertainty involved when using condi builds.

Quoting a good friend of mine (Hey Poppy!), I’m confused! On the one hand we have die-hard WvW players who swear blind they have no interest in PvE and do everything in WvW .. including levelling up.

And on the other, we have die-hard WvW players complaining bitterly that uplevels shouldn’t come along ruining their game by dying fast, being rally-bots, etc..

I never thought of it like this, you make a brilliant point. I know one of the guild tags that I saw was from a hardcore WvW guild, maybe the guys were leveling in WvW because it’s their only interest. It’s hard to fault them if that was the case.

You rush in to try and help them win the fight, they get cut down in an instant and you can’t do anything for them. The enemies gank you as you stand there all alone. You click on your teammates to see what class and build they are running…

And they are all uplevels.

IDK how many times I’ve risked my tail to try and help people win a fight without checking to see if they are upleveled. Shame on me or shame on them, not sure.

Thank you so much Karsaib, it’s great to get advice from a person as highly skilled/ranked as yourself. I’ve seen your team in many shoutcasted tournaments, I’ve had the idea of muting the sound and commentating the match myself, to have another person suggest this out of blue means it has to be a solid way to learn. I’ll bookmark this post and look back on it until all of these things are second nature for me.

I’m not new to PvP, I have alot of hotjoin games and some soloq, but the thing that’s stopping me from immersing myself in ranked is map awareness. I want to know exactly where I should be on the map at all times without having to be told by other people. If you guys could link me any guides that explain this (especially with screenshots of the minimap and real world examples) I’d really appreciate it.

Tbh this guys sounds like a hotjoin hero based off the claim that he made about having the second most tournis played NA thats is not possible to calculate. the ladder does not tell you how many tournis played/won befor the ladder came out and i was rank 40 by the time ladder even came out. Another suggestion to marvin 300+ per champ means nothing at all but that uve wanted to get the title for every class in the game aka hotjoin hero and 300 games is kitten and means nothing. try 1-2 classes its good to know all classes but not good play all so much see as you needed that time to correctly learn your main. once you have 1500+ tournis then u have effectively learned that class.

This is probably the most ignorant post I’ve read on this forum to date. That’s saying ALOT

What OP is saying is true, matches are rarely 5v5, it’s usually 4v3 with 3 people waiting as spectators so that can join the winning team. It’s really not fun, being able to spectate and find the ranks of all the players in the match makes people only want to play to be on the winning team. It sours the hotjoin experience bigtime. Hotjoin should be pick up and play but if they can reduce the number sore losers who only join to be on the winning team it would be nice.

Also I have no experience with 8v8 hotjoin because it’s terrible, I play 5v5 hotjoin only.

It is unfair that some players don’t enter the match until the timer completely runs down, so the other players on the team cannot analyze the team comp and change classes to better suit the team. I’d like to know what classes are on my team as soon as the match starts, and I don’t want to be penalized for other players who don’t take team comp as seriously as I do.

Did you see how fast they responded to the rank 30 requirement for the Gift of Battle? It doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing any response to this issue at all.

This, as well as the Flamekissed armor.

Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,
we’ve all seen what happens in games where there’s no disadvantage to taking your pants off.

The original thread that was locked had like 600 posts, this one is getting close to 400. So we have 1,000 posts in two threads, and a handful of other threads with 50-100 posts in them. How many thousands of posts does it take for them to acknowledge that this is a problem and the players don’t like this.

Also here is the survey I made, out of 642 responses 64% of respondents dislike the pick.
