At the moment I wouldn’t consider it at all, and I will never pre purchase from them again. The fact they even mention another xpac at this point makes me ill.

Yeah I know, my first thought was “well aren’t you gonna finish hoT first?” I mean they haven’t even released 25% of the new legendaries, WvW is a mess, only 1 Stronghold map released… Not even gonna mention raids…

Maybe the second expansion is SAB, because if they start to work on a new expansion immediately and don’t deliver SAB then it’s just never coming back and they were lying.

SAB will always represent the best GW2 has been for me, even when I was playing WvW instead, just having it there after a WvW raid was nice.

Over a year of development better bring outstanding result. With 3-4 developers that’s a quarter of a million investment just to fix balance and reward issues. I would expect amazing results from that sort of investment, unless its just a year of development by a lonely developer working 3 hours a week with broken developers tools he would have to reprogram… Then nothing would get done even if you took 5 years for a WvW overhaul.

Anyway, we’ll see if that hype will deliver, if it doesn’t WvW is just finished.

All the elites, the glymphs, the slow skills that rarely hit anyone, it all need redesign.

“WvW overhaul has been in development for over a year now. "

A year in development I would except so many new systems improvements and fixes.
It better not disappoint, because at the moment everyone is leaving and the only way they’ll ever come back is if WvW finally feels rewarding.

“There are lots of core things we still need to do including population balance etc.”

So the list is “population balance” and then it jumps to “etc”? I mean doing population balance over 3 years in is already really really late. ESO implemented a population balance system only a few months after the initial release.

Colin should have said: “There are lots of core things left to implement including population balance, a rank-driven reward system, the return of the Orb we promised over a year ago, a better waypoint system for the new map, gliding in the new map, design overhaul of the old maps and a reorganizing of the current 4 WvW map into a cohesive whole with EotM.”

They’ve already nerfed the ele to the ground by destroying the offensive lines. All that’s left is that boring bunker meta.

Yes, it is annoying to fight, just like a bunker guard, druid or chrono is: the solution isn’t to nerf tempest, but to make the other builds viable again.

They need to bring the old stability back.

in PvP

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

This is an interesting issue.

I think another route cause to all this imbalance is they way they dumbed down all the pvp stats and trait lines.

There is simply no room for experimenting. Because there are only 3 traits per trait-line now, there is a much bigger chance of x being obvious pick over y, and z. rather than having 5(or was it 6) different options. Most classes are now tunnel visioned into 1-2 builds with little room to customise. This has massively contributed to how ‘meta’ forced this game is.
With less diversity in your playing style options, the less people are going to experiment and create their own builds/styles of play. Now, with Elite specs, that has turned your 6 optional trait specs into 5, because the Elites are pretty much a must. Again, just dumbs down everything and forces people to stay in certain meta builds due to lack of diversity in traits or stats.

what’s the point in 6 trait specs when only MAXIMUM 2 builds are viable from those 6 specs on any class.

Secondly, as was stated above in this post, pvp stats are also dumbed down.

Before, when you could mix and match runes, there was greater flexibility of what stats you wanted. I feel amulets are far too simplistic….forcing everyone to play, pure bunker, pure dps (condi or power).

Not only is there no ‘trinity’ in this game….it’s worse, there is now only 2 viable options. Unfortunately, because of how amulets and runes are balanced, the trade offs between survivability, damage and skill are too greatly favoured towards survivability.

If there are only 2 builds to choose from, bunker or pure dps, and the aim of GW2 PvP is conquest…shock, you get a constant bunker meta.

Every day i wish i could theory craft random, exciting builds for my classes, like the old days. Mix and match runes, stats depending on what traits…. but you cannot. There is no trait diversity now, and all the trait lines are too forced towards certain traits, especially with the elite spec now being imperative instead of optional.

Basically, it’s too easy to find the optimal meta build for any class now because of the lack of any real stat/trait customisations.

I’ve always thought the new trait system is what broke everything.
Personally I was running some very original builds nobody was running before the new trait system came in place and had amazing success with those builds. Now it’s all impossible, I’m stuck running the stupidly boring bunker meta because anything else is not viable.

The new trait system is the perfect example of why a company shouldn’t waste their resources fixing stuff that isn’t broken. It would have been better to invest in HoT content.

Sigh Over 5,000 hours invested in this game, 23 characters, so many gemstore items bought all makes it hard for me to leave, but leaving I am. I’ll probably keep checking back in for a while, hoping for a surprise that will never come, but the fun has just been beaten out of this game by an escalating series of counterproductive design changes. Sad, sad, sad.

It’s similar for me, I think around 6k hours, probably 5k in WvW. I barely played in a month. HoT just doesn’t have the depth it needed to strongly push this game into 2016.

I actually thought they would improve WvW over the years but the changes they’ve done have been for the most part without incidence to the gaming experience… Even WvW ranks are now completly useless since they removed guard stacks.

Why I think HoT failed

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

I just don’t understand how they could come up with a fun and rewarding map like SW and then make the HoT maps like they are.

I think it really shows that Verdant brink has had more testing time and fine tuning than the rest of the expansion. I mean it set’s the bar so high when the expansion starts that the rest of the expansion just fall flat as it unfolds.

The artists have done a great job with everything they do as usual, besides some of the skill design on the new elite professions that was recycled.

Then the negative:
Raids weren’t ready (even if released a month late, 95% of the players are not interested because, well, it’s not interesting content)
WvW wasn’t ready (they didn’t implement stuff from the CDI, everyone is leaving, servers are empty)
PvP wasn’t ready (class balance is a mess, build variety is gone, and Stronghold is not the GvG they promised and it has only 1 map…)
Guild Halls weren’t ready (Scribing is so expensive everyone is like “kitten that”, Arenas are too small for GvG and have no scoreboard)
Some elite specs were not ready (Tempest was rushed so bad the dev didn’t even know how to play it)
Story is rushed and ends abruptly, as if, “well now it’s gotta end because the expansion is getting released next month”
Masteries are a joke, no way I’m wasting time grinding those
Everything turned into an account-bound grind, if you saved gold like I did then it’s all useless in the expansion. Collection being the biggest grind in the history of gaming.
Legendaries weren’t ready either.
Old Tyria didn’t get the facelift it needed to be interesting again.
WvW this, WvW that, WvW this, WvW that, etc…

But yeah, what’s there in some part is beautifully done, the problem being, it’s just not finished.

That coalescence of ruin dmg LMAO, I can guess your build..watch out for the wind..it may take you away

It’s the dame modifier traits on Coalescence of Ruin that makes it hit twice more than it should. Basically what should have been a 8.5k hit turned into a 17k.

I actually have decent armor and some extra vitality without being bunker. The point being, even with 3k armor we all know Coalescense of Ruin still hits for 14k.

Basically an ele would have to go full useless bunker to save himself 3k on a Revenant hammer 2 hit on a 3 second cooldown.

Ice Spike is the most powerful ele skill if you have the proper traits.
It’s really easy to avoid however and it takes a skill ele to get all the damage modifiers to proc.

I got over 20k on keep lord once (see attached image)… but I’m full ascended and my build is top secret.

What’s certain is that that ele was pure glass, had buffed might stacks, and you had vulnerability stacks.

That said, this is what Coalescence of Ruin does to me (See attached image 2).

If ESO had a slightly better fighting system I would have left a long time ago. Problem is finding a good MMO to go to. I wanted to just leave for Overwatch (not an MMO) but that game isn’t coming for Mac after all.

I see that the OP has hit the end of the curve.

I hit the bottom of the curve too, which happens when most of your friends leave the game. Anet was scared to delay the expansion until it was finished and instead they rushed it out unfinished.
Seems making a good MMO isn’t the main focus anymore, instead it’s all about milking the franchise to make shareholders happy.

No… kitten idea

-Consolidate & Merge all servers
-Creat only 2 opposing factions
-& Cross fingers population sticks around

1- That’s what I proposed, but you need enough maps to support the population, which is why I came up with a new WvW world map.

2- That makes no sense, might as well play another game. WvW is a 3-sided game.

3- Well people are leaving now, so it can’t be worse.

The team is actively working on balance changes.

This is my feedback:
You can’t have balance without build variety. If GW2 is to be balance Anet needs to start by making all the useless skills and traits useful, like the elementalist elites and overnerfed Ice-Bow, over-nerfed Engineers Turrets, racial skills, etc.

Then nerfing the insane amount of ccs like those on Guardian traps and Mesmers double Gravity well and shield stun, fixing core issues like Stability (it was working fine until Anet broke it and made it stack). Nerfing passive damage mitigation is also really important. Finally nerfing the damage on skills and traits out of line, like that Revenant hammer 2 hitting for 17k on a light class.

Hey I’ve been thinking about the ideal map/population system to save GW2 WvW an came up with this (see attached file).

I tried to find solution to people’s most frequently mentioned issues, that of overflow system and the return of Alpine BL.

Basically all servers would be merged into 3 alliances.
There would be:
7 Neutral maps: 2 EBG and 4 EotM
6 Borderland maps: 3 Alpine BL and 3 Desert BL
1 new TDM/KotH arena
2 improved versions of Obsidian Sanctum

In total these maps would be able to sustain over 2000 players at any given time, basically the sum of the entire WvW population of 24 servers.

On any of these maps points could be accumulated to help your Alliance:
1- EotM maps would no longer exist as overflow, they would instead be an alternate version of EBG without an upgrade system. The maximum PPT score on EotM maps would be 50% of the value of an EBG map.

2- Each alliance would have 2 borderlands to protect, Desert and Alpine.
The Desert BL would be changed to be easier to travel through the Shrines and the middle event would be replaced by a gateless keep with a waypoint.

3- The new Team Deathmatch smaller map would have one keep in the middle that give a slight advantage in combat for respawn. The TDM score reset would be every hour for 250 points. Each kills would also count.

4- 10v10 and 15v15 GvGs would also be organized on the Obsidian Sanctum maps with a squad queue system and a spectator system (only 1 gvg per map at a time). A victory would be worth 50 points.

That’s what I would like to see in this game at this point, feel free to comment if possible in a constructive manner. We all want to save this game mode.

As it stands right now Guild Wars 2 PvP is a terribly frustrating experience from a gameplay perspective.

It’s impossible to do anything in a group fight without being interrupted every second. It becomes just a button smashing fest where you try to get a skill off before getting interrupted again. 80% of the time I’m just watching my skills recharge because a new cc interrupted me before the recharge penalty was over and for 5 seconds (until I have an overload stunbreak).

If you didn’t made stability a stacking boon that gets removed with ccs then perhaps we could enjoy this but as it is right now it makes the new elite professions worse.

Guardian Traps, dual Gravity Wells, Shocking auras, Knockdowns, Pulls, Taunts; its completely out of control. The recharge penality for getting interrupted has to be removed if this is the direction the game is going in. Then with Ranger roots and perma chill, condition creep and finally the damage creep, like 17k Revenant hammer hits in WvW from 1200 range.

We used to complain about 8k Backstab from Thieves when the game was released. Now Heavy classes do 8k auto attacks from 1200 range (or 14-17k bursts every 3 seconds if they press 2 and get lucky).

I understand the concept of inflation but I didn’t think MMO skill damage was also subject to it.

I’ve invested so much in this but now it’s just no more fun to play and I can’t point my finger on why exactly. I think that tempest is such a bad elite spec design, was rushed and is so boring that I lost the interest in my main class. But then there is all the other hundreds of small and big issues that have piled up. Everything feels old even if the expansion just came out.

WvW needs an electroshock update, PPK won’t save it, it’s too late for that.

The bottom line is the expansion did not hold the attention of the masses for long nor did it reinvent the wheel. Honestly, I don’t know what people were expecting given the time frame and lack of class testing. I’m not even going to get into that PvP and WvW nightmare.

The sooner Living World returns, the better. Chasing the next carrot achievements is what this game is all about.

Let’s not kid ourselves.

Because honestly the expansion was bad in a number of ways – the worst however is that in a primarily cosmetically driven game this expansion gave us incredibly few armor skins to work towards.

It’s as simple as that – cosmetics driven game – no cosmetic choices as rewards – nobody bothering with it that much.

Not to mention that we only got 3 new legendary weapons – the high-end be all-end all skins.
3 skins means that people who don’t like any of the current ones they released with HoT have nothing to do – nothing to work for. They need to improve rewards, specially in WvW.

I’m personally not working on HoT stuff because there are no HoT skins I particularly like – so then why bother?

Yeah this is true. There is just not enough interesting items in HoT that drops and can be crafted. The new legendaries only represent a few classes. It’s not interesting to keep playing when you get nothing in return and no chance for a new precursor either.

With everything account bound it like they made this use time-gate just for a few items.

They stated that raids were specifically meant to be end-game content. Can you clarify what you mean?

They have stated several times that SAB will come back. They likely will not release a date until a week or two before it is released. My guess now is around April 1st.

I think next week’s update will have some balance changes. I’m not sure what those are and if they’d address what you have issues with.

Well Anet can say something, it doesn’t makes it true.

A single raid isn’t end game content, it’s just an instance with 3 bosses you repeat a million time for a skin nobody has seen and probably hasn’t been implemented. End game content should be something expansive (like Diablo 3 randomly generated dungeons) you want to play when you finished the main story. Barely anyone wants to play the raid because the new bosses are just annoying.

SAB: if you believe them. I don’t. The WvW Orb was promised to come back as well and it never did.

Balance: Coalescence of Ruin has been doing 17k hits in WvW for the last months and they haven’t even acknowledged it. They told us they wanted to create new meta, not build variety, and that is the complete opposite of what they were doing 3 years ago…

I feel a lot of negativity would have been avoided if the people complaining felt Anet is listening. We still have no idea how raids are meant to be endgame content, when or if SAB is coming back, when GvG will be implemented (along with a bigger guild arena), when more Stronghold will be made, if balance issues and build variety will be fixed, and when the required server merge for WvW will happen…

If all these things receive a clear answer we will be on good grounds for the future.

This, combined with the horrible connection I’ve had to the game recently (everything else runs fine, including demanding online games), is really sapping my will to play. I want to play this game, I want to have fun… but non-existent drops, insane gold-gates and content that rewards copying a build instead of good play… this is the opposite of GW2.

But hey, we got raids now, so the 90% of the playerbase who are raiders are happy. ^^

lol No but many feel the same way. Anet has been moving away from their manifesto ever since they removed SAB from the game and made grindy content with the new maps instead of adventure-based instanced content. I’m mentionning SAB because I think the moment they decided to drop SAB coincides with the decision to turn this game into a grindfest.

How are you claiming these things? How long have you been with the game?

Anet has moved away from the manifesto ever since they introduced ascended gear 2 months or so after release. How is it you’re bringing up the manifesto now since we’re all aware that 1 year into the game’s development the manifesto was a distant memory and not relevant.

They shifted the attention of dungeon consumers to FotM and raids. To get the most out of FotM, you need Fractal Masteries. Both Masteries and raids require purchase of HoT. It’s not hard to imagine that those facts played some part in the decision-making.

I agree – but to claim Anet is just now moving away from the manifesto – or did so for the first time when they dropped SAB is absurd – considering how early into the game’s life cycle the manifesto was considered irrelevant and not paid any attention to.

Ascended armor came in way after over a year in.

Living Story 1 was not a grind fest at all. It was completely story based and the summit of Anet creative potential was SAB.

What I’m saying is that when Anet decided to drop SAB for good coincide with Living Story 2 and the new direction they took with it, as well as the Chinese release. This is when the achievements rewards became grindy areas with content you had to repeat 100 of times. I don’t think it’s absurd at all.

There is a clear point 1-year in the Guild Wars 2 development where they trashed the manifesto for the Asian market, and SAB is a symbolic reminder of how the game was before then.

I think it’s to late to scrap the borderland idea because they are base on the principle of having a defending server. It has been the core reason since launch that prevented WvW from progressing toward a more open system with 4 distinctive maps.

From that perspective EotM is the most forward-thinking map, but with the Desert Borderland they took a step back.

It’s going to be strange to see auras again now that we’re all used to not seeing them.

It shouldn’t take that long to change the transparency on auras from 2% to 15%, the new shape is fine. I would expect them to be fixed in the next Jan patch.

Can World Boss Shadow Behemoth be reworked

If I’m not mistaken when they released Teq they said they would increase the difficulty on all the dragon world bosses. But then they also said Stronghold would be similar to GW1 GvG.

I want to play with my bad friends again.

Anet has changed its strategy (again) and this time, you’re not part of the new target audience.

Anet deviating from their manifesto and turning everything into grinding fest is the reason many of my friends are “taking a break” from the game (and so am I). Even the new precursors can’t even be obtained without grinding, everything is about slowing players down and it’s turning the game into a job. If you remember how Guild Wars 1 avoided grinding as much as possible then you probably are as disappointing as I am about HoT. But then, Guild Wars 1 expansions were more generous with content.

In my opinion since the game went free to play Guild Wars is destined to be marketed for a completely different audience, probably in Asia, that doesn’t mind repeating the same thing over and over.

Back to the topic:
I also wished I could finish the new Raid with my friends as well, but like me they have jobs and never expected the raids to be about knowing everything by heart instead of being a good player. Anyway, once I saw the raid was just 3 boss fights I lost the will to even play them and decided to catch-up on all the other games I missed in 2015 instead.

Please, hotfix Tempests and Chrono bunkers.

Ele play tempest bunker because nothing else is viable for the class in this high-damage/condi meta.

If they nerf tempest we will just use rune of earth and still bunk on point because there is nothing else left to do for the class in pvp.

Because they design tempest to just do what we could already do they gave us more healing and protection, but if they nerf that tempest becomes completely worthless.

What Anet needs to do is create build variety, instead of trying to create the meta.

Rebound is nothing.

This version of Rebound was rushed between 2 beta weekends because the first iteration was kitten.

Making Rebound good should be considered important, but not more than making Warhorn have good skills design and Overloads being something more than a gimmick to stack auras and boons.

So why wasn't gliding in new maps?

Simple answer:
Because the new WvW map was designed a while ago, before they designed the HoT content and gliders.

You can see that the new WvW map isn’t “HoT content” from the jump pads that do not work as well as in HoT either. It’s also probably why it was released for free.

You’re funny. You judge your opinion on:

- people who keep rerunning the content (have to be addicts and bragartists, can’t be due to the content being fun)
- people who don’t do them (my guess is most have not tried or tried and failed). Great way to get to know content, ask people who haven’t done the content.

If you had spent the time talking to people who do the raids, you’d get quite a few to answer that the raids are a lot of fun. The mechanics for the 3 bosses are interesting (Goreseval is usually the one everyone mentions as least interesting due to the dps check aspect) and quite fun.

Now this might not extend to people trying with bad pugs, but most regular raiders will tell you exactly this: the first wing is a lot of fun and most are looking forward to the next wing.

I’m sorry but I’ve played the raids multiple times. Personally I don’t find it good content at all, it’s just boss fights with gimmicky mechanics and gated by annoying timers. There is no story, nothing to explore, no real motivation to keep banging your head on the wall either. It’s a shame on the endgame content that was to be found in Guild Wars 1. I think it’s a complete fail, it’s not going to keep people playing this game.

So you’d rather fight trash with no mechanics and no timers? Open world it is for you.
Story is there, just not thrown at you, but hidden in those letters and what you can see from the encounters/small bits of dialogue. Gear/drops you can only get there are your motivation, if that’s not for you, again, there’s open world.

No I’d rather GvG and PvP, stuff that actually is skill-wise challenging, instead of the false difficulty or high HP and timers. I want hard content in a game that can get you involved from both a story and gameplay perspective, but the raid here are just boring as hell. Look for a party for 2 hours minimum, fight this boss with a million HP and probably fail 10 times until people quit, then this other boss with a million HP if you have a good party, then this other boss with a million HP, repeat. Even the Arah dungeon initially was way better developed than this.

Seriously, I can’t believe people can’t see how kittening cheap the raid content is. It’s not what I paid 50$ for. For 50$ you can get amazing games that have had so much more work in them than this expansion, like the latest Assassin Creed. I don’t see why anyone would waste their time with this just to get an armor skin.

guild lost interest in raids.
