Seriously, Necro is the strongest class against ele. Even with tempest and all the condi cleanse in the world a necro can still lock an ele out of skills and attunements. Just perma chill and they’re dead. You have the most boon rip/converts as well… If you can’t do that then you may want to consider the possibility that you aren’t the best player around.
Now you would like free kills I guess, because that’s what you would get if you remove Diamond Skin (and as we all know, it’s probably going to happen, because Anet “create new metas” according to forum whining instead of logically balancing skills and classes according to a reward/risk system)… If you remove diamond Skin there is just nothing an ele can do against a necro constantly applying chill, a condi revenant, a condi engi, or a condi mesmer.
Advice for the current meta: don’t put all your eggs in the same basket. I run Viper necro and I have no problems with tempests.

The only thing that scares me is PPK. Everyone seems to think that it will encourage fights but I worry that it discourages fights by making people less willing to engage with smaller numbers and give up points. If it does end up encouraging fights I’m all for it I just know way to many commanders who are unwilling to engage larger groups just based on giving the enemies bags and having to regather their group at spawn. If they also know they are going to lose net points I fear they will get even more cautious. I’m sure this isn’t an original thought but I didn’t see it in the 6 or so pages I read.
That’s why they need:
1 PPK for winning team
2 PPK for mid team
3 PPK for losing team
2 extra PPT when outnumbered
A losing server that is also outnumbered would at least be able to score good points off kills.
There’s this underwater area in hotm, never noticed it before so i don’t know how long it’s been open. There’s underwater golem dummies there, so maybe an underwater map soon?
There was a map with underwater combat the first year the game was released. They removed it completely (and it was quite fun).
I expected with HoT to have some enjoyable endgame content. However, raids are just not fun. It’s just a few difficult boss encounters, there is nothing to explore, no story, no discovery, nothing to farm. We’re so far here from the quality of Guild Wars 1 endgame content it’s unbelievable.
I had saved gold for new precursors, but everything is locked behind collections that are impossible to complete in WvW and PvP, where I spend the majority of my time when playing. So I just crafted myself some old legendaries which I guess are fine. Seriously there isn’t enough new content to play in HoT to make it worth farming thousands of hours for a new skin.
I enjoyed exploring HoT, but that’s it, there is no more good drops in this game so it’s useless to just run around and do event (unlike when the game was first released), everything has been nerfed to the ground.
I log in, do a few pvp rounds if my guild isn’t GvGing (a Game mode Anet still isn’t supporting) or raiding in WvW, I’ll log out to play something else. If the intent with Raids was to increase the longevity of this game then it is a complete failure. None of my friends are doing them, finding a good group is just a huge waste of time.

we know the single Stronghold map was ready at the beginning of last summer when we beta-tested it. When the Stronghold “gamemode” for the expansion was announced as “compete against other guilds” we expected a GvG mode inside the pvp rules system, a sort of 10v10 Guild Wars 1 style GvG.
Turned out it all turned back on itself, and became just a 5v5 pvp map with a different set of rules, instead of a new game mode with more players and more maps. There is no guild ranking either unless that’s what the league is supposed to be.
So now 6 months later can we ask again? Is there anything else planned for PvP? I mean Team Deathmatch has been removed, underwater combat has been removed, teams are still just 5v5, and the expansion only had 1 map.
Personally after 3 years I was expecting more than just 1 map with the expansion. When you have the gameplay mechanics down in the production tools how complicated is it to hire teams of artists to design more maps? Can we expect more than 1 map every 2 years now that HoT is out?
I do not blame the Elementalists. This profession needs skill and positioning. You must be rewarded if played right.

Yeah it was to be expected as soon as they presented the rushed Tempest spec. It does nothing new, only has recycled might/auras and stacks more protection and more healing.
Since they destroyed zerk staff ele, then marauder staff ele (with nerfs intended for d/d and crazy interrupts buffs to other classes which makes the staff too slow to be reliable), both the air line for s/f and fire lines for d/d burning and staff/cantrips there is nothing left than go bunker.
I told them the day they came up with this new trait system and removed stat points from the trait lines: “Do you realize you’re removing built variety”
And they responded: “It’s too soon to see”.
Well kitten me I was right and they were wrong again. Even them recently had to admit it’s not the meta they wanted. Well kittening fail it’s not like we didn’t tell them.

It’s really the minimum they can do. It should have been done a year ago. WvW needs so much more to feel adapted to 2016.
Ice Spike stopped working with Quickness since the expansion was released as well. It really sucks.
In regards to PPK, can you implement it so that its in favor of the losing server?

How would this work change effect player behavior? Wouldn’t it promote big zerg pushes and then hibernating inside structures?
I don’t think so. I mean they do need to change the rewards, perhaps the rewards could encourage fighting instead of discouraging it.
In Spvp right now, you mostly just spam abilities into a sea of immunitiy, block, evade, insane regeneration, stealth targets disappearing over and over etc etc. Not to mention that survivability is so out of hand, most everyone is running a build that would be considered tanky by the standards of most previous metas.
That’s because:
1- The Elite professions just do more of what we already had instead of doing new things. More chill, more immobs, bigger burst, more condi, more protection, more auras, more healing, etc. They were lazy on the development of new ideas, mostly condi/boons which they all gave to the mesmer. More interesting thing should have been done also: Why is ele Warhorn getting another kittening fire field and water field?
Serious lack of vision. Why does every Reaper skill does Chill? The result of all of this along with the new trait system is a huge drop in build variety.
2- The game modes are really limited. Stand on points and hold (makes bunker builds the best) and a Stronghold mode with only 1 map where to win you just have to heal npcs, use the maximum amount of ccs and then aoe dps another npc. How much more can you expect to obtain from such a limited game mode? PvP should be bigger and more varied.
Did heat sync use to copy all boons? I did not play in the beta.
Yeah it used to be the best warhorn skill, it copied all boons. Could have been really interesting if the other skills were good or if the ele had gotten new boons.

Yup, because the game isn’t shaped around 1 v 1. Its a team game. T E A M .
1v1’s are part of the overall team effort though.
Pure 1-sided builds, like pure condi or pure support, are team builds not builds made for 1v1.

I’ve honestly only seen Rebound work once and the next hit I was down again. What a lousy design considering the game has been out for 3 years. I can’t believe they couldn’t come out with something better for a class that has so much gameplay potential.
Ice Bow should have been made an elite instead of getting nerfed. Tornado should be ground target or at the very least reflect projectiles. FGS needs a damage boost because it has no defensive skills. The Elemental should be permanent until killed, like a ranger pet, and it should have more hp, the animations should be way faster.

There needs to be a pure counter to pure condi builds for the class with the less hp and armor. Anyway if you put all your eggs in the same basket you can’t expect not to have a counter-meta build out there. If you can’t even cleave 10% off an ele then perhaps it’s time to come to realize the fact that your build just sucks versus that class. As far as I can see Dragon Hunters, Revenants and Scrappers have no problems dealing with tempests if they chain their skills properly.
Why do you think eles play full bunker now? When cleansing water can’t clear half the chill application or torment application of a Reaper or a Revenant wtf do you expect?
Play celestial amulet or Viper, something that does a bit of damage instead of pure condi. Without versatility you can’t expect to win against every builds. People that run pure condi builds are supposed to team up with teammates that run pure support and pure damage. If you solo queue pure condi then it’s gonna fail.

New maps are not a problem. We do not dislike new maps, we dislike the new map. Re-do and do-right. You need to learn how to iterate upon what you have and expanding upon the game mode, rather than completely changing the entire premise of the map and the game mode. Learn from the two mistakes (EoTM and Deserted). Roll back to the Alpine maps, iterate upon them and release new different but similar maps when available.
Dude I don’t want to play the old kitten. I’ll just leave for good if they bring back the old map we played a million hours already. You’ll realize how bad it was after 1 hour.
The new map is better designed for more varied fights. The only problems are lack of waypoints and population, both of which have nothing to do with the map itself.
What they need to do is give us 4 different maps with an alliance system and close the EotM overflow. Or merge all the servers and have 3 DBL maps, 3 ABL maps, 2 EotM maps, 2 EBG maps.

Two really needed changes:
1) Nerf Revenant Hammer #2. Some guilds are going full revenant now and you can do 7k+ damage per hit to 5 players, on a skill with a 2-second cooldown. This is an absurd amount of damage and makes it so you can’t even get close to guilds that are running this setup.
2) Reverse the stability change in WvW, so that stability does not get stripped when CC is done. Again, this makes it very difficult for a group to engage another group, because they can simply be CC bombed.
7k? You forgot the first number, it hits for 14-18k when the trait is triggered (see screenshot)
Also I totally about Stability, it was a bad change initially.
In the pvp I get 15 fps less than when the game was released on Mac, at a lower resolution and at less details. All the updates had a negative impact on the framerate.
Why does everyone expect to go up the PvP ladder? For every game a team win another team has to lose. If you lose all the time then it’s time to change your strategy, group up with people, or accept that you perhaps won’t make it to Diamond.
Personally if I can just make it to Ruby I’ll be fine with that.
You think the game should put you in 75/25% winning chance scenario instead of 50/50%? Or make you wait for 25 minutes for a match because it can’t find another team of equal level? That won’t be fun either way.
Players will also no longer be able to revive defeated players while in combat.
This has never been an annoyance, I’m far from sure it’s the best decision but it won’t be catastrophic either.
Rest is good but it will not resolve the empty maps/servers + high transfer fees issue.

Because apparently you guys never played ele so you have no clue how to fight one. When I play on my Reaper I just destroy eles, it’s so easy to lock them out of skill usage. Diamond Skin or not…
They can nerf Diamond Skin for all we care it’s not really good. You’ll just be back here complaining about Stone Heart.
Passive craps like diamond skin are bad for this game and have to go..away. They take no skill whatsoever, slot and forget.
Diamond Skin isn’t passive, it only works when you’re HP is above 90%, which honestly only works on engage unless you’re opponent just doesn’t have any damage pressure.
You can’t blame the trait really, it’s been there for 2 years and isn’t even half as good as Stoneheart.
I think you should play ele, equip Fire Air and Water and see how long you last in a fight. The class has been nerfed as much as it could be nerfed, so much that lousy skills like Diamond Skin had to become our last refuge just because we have to take everything to bunk up just to stay alive.
They need to nerf condi and passive play, not Diamond Skin.

If the ele didn’t fart out healing, this would be true.
That said, with only two condi builds seeing play, I’m not sure condi really needs a nerf. People just aren’t running cleanse.
Diamond Skin doesn’t need a nerf, it needs a rework.
Diamond Skin was given to the ele because the class has the lowest base armor and health survivability. Seriously, Diamond skin isn’t that good, it’s only good now because people are running cheesy condi spam.
An ele using earth already gives up on his biggest damage modifiers. It just doesn’t need a nerf… and when an ele is running healing it aint running damage either.
Any class can bunk up and hold point, now because bunkering up it’s the only thing left the ele can do people are blaming bunker ele. If you nerf that you destroy the class.

You can buy precursors or skins and give those away.
The only thing tempest does well is:
1- Protection stacking (but to be honest I could have perma protection with d/d before HoT with Arcane, just not share it as much). The protection sharing was much more balanced with Elemental attunement.
2- Healing on Aura Share, for a class that had that amount of regen share I don’t know why they felt that was necessary, something offensive (like a new boon) on aura share would have been way more interesting.
3- Overload Air when full zerk
Notice that none of that use Warhorn, which has a useless set of clunky and slow skills.
For the trait there isn’t any choice either since for every tier one is definitively better than the other ones.
I proposed this after the first beta weekend, along with a trait that would extend the Scepter range to 1200 when wielding a Warhorn.
I guess that would have been too much fun.

Anyone else having Mouse Wheel problems?
My mouse Wheel stopped working since yesterday’s patch.
The mouse itself works, it’s only in GW2.
Edit: Well this really sucks. I’ve tried everything including deleting my config file. WTF.

Talking about Superspeed, it would be much better if it gave 100% extra speed (double speed). As it is right now it is barely noticeable in comparison to swiftness and quite useless.
After Anet nerfed the Fire line and Air lines for the elementalist bunker tempest is all that is left in terms of build variety. I really wished we could go back to the old zerk builds.
I concur, tested it on NPC in Heart and its not even doing anything that the description says, it will only proc when I actually use the elec aura and the npc is using a channel attack.
What is not doing it? Lightning Rod is not damaging something? If you interrupt while target is blocking or evading, it will not deal damage due to the bug.
Actually shocking Aura does not proc lighting rod, is this intended?
It used to work but now it’s broken. I think right now for Anet the elementalist is way down the list of priorities considering that they didn’t even do the improvements to the Tempest traits they said they would do after the beta weekends.
Wow that’s disappointing. I really expected Stronghold to be back. How can stealth issue take more than 2 weeks to fix?

That’s why PvP needs Team Deathmatch since the beginning instead of this hold points. Instead of doing more they removed the only TDM map.
I mean PvP has to do more with builds now than player skill and that says a lot about the wrong turn this game has taken.
They still have 1-2 hours to prove to us they are listening and aren’t just on autopilot since HoT’s release. It’s never too late to fix broken traits/skills.

An ele base hp is 11,645, at 15745 I brought my HP up to the base HP of almost a medium HP level (15,922). The question is why should we have to waste so much of our points just to one hit of a class that has more base HP and hit like a truck at 1200 range?
Even if you have 3000 armor we’ve seen 14k CoR hits.
No skill should do that much damage, that’s what we are discussing here, “balance”. not “how to survive unbalanced skills”.
See how this guy mentioned nothing about OP Tempest perma sustain + damage reduction + immune condition + perma reflect? (Not to mention to the whole group)

I play a lot of Reaper too. Actually I agree that Bunker tempest is really annoying to fight, but they don’t do good damage at all. Any bunker guardian or warrior who have even more blocks are just as annoying.
Eles right now are stuck into playing bunker because anything else they get 1-shot. The days of marauder d/d fresh air, s/d fresh air, zerk staff, condi d/d are all gone. Anet made all these builds nonviable because of the the might nerf to the fire line and the bolt to the heart nerf to the air line.
Reaper on the other hand has variety, you can play it celestial, viper, marauder, berserker. Everything works on that elite spec, it’s not cornered into bunker kitten.
So Tempest /Chrono and Reaper are going stay broken while Rev got shafted? (Because it’s one of the few spec that can actually hurt mesmer atm)

It’s not like we didn’t tell Karl for 2 months that Tempest didn’t work. He just never made the changes the ele community asked for and we got stuck with this bunker boring meta.
It’s the ccs on the guards trap they need to nerf to the ground. Being stuck in a tiny circle for 5 seconds twice then getting pulled into more cc traps kittening sucks and is turning what was once an eSport into a joke.

Not more than any other class playing complete bunker. It’s just that the elementalist has no other viable builds left.
Only Verdant Brink really has 2 distinct levels ( I wouldn’t call the cloud layer a level, as its 80% empty). It is the most amazing map, as good or better than Silverwaste.
The other maps are more vertical and are very detailed, but do not really have distinct levels. They are not bigger than the old maps in terms of horizontal space covered.
How is the Dragon Stand Map more complex than the Malchor Leap map?
HoT is 4 maps, if Silverwaste and Dry Top would have been released with it it would have been an outstanding expansion. I guess because we got the Living Story content for free the expansion came out a little smaller than expected.
The level of details in HoT’s maps is really impressive, I personally just wished they had 1-2 dungeons with it and 1-2 more pvp maps.
