These changes will not make us survive an encounter with a thief.

The staff doesn’t aim well and sometimes aim at the wrong target when changing targets quickly.

The resurrection signet doesn’t work well for me. Usually it doen’t ressurect the person standing in front of me even if I click on them first. Also, it doesn’t resurrect me either as it should when I cast it attuned to fire.

Balance-wise the casting time seems really slow – considering it rarely works you might as well scrap that skill.

I will use this thread to list all the changes happened to this profession prior to game release and im my opinion there were all wrong decisions that should have been reverted months ago. All these changes have shifted a whole weapon set from being the most efficient one to one of the less efficient.

Before:
-Create a combo field which stun (3s) targets as they cross it-
An excellent way to create distance between you and your opponent, force him to go around it or directly stun him by placing the field at the right time

Now:
-Create a combo field which stun (2s) targets as they touch the borders, you can sit in the middle of static field and don’t get stun…how stupid seriously, it cannot be used as area negation and pale in comparison with chaos storm..as control skill the efficiency has been lowered by over 50%

Before:
-Create a wall rock that enemy cannot cross, thus allowing you to seal your escape route or stopping enemies from reaching your allies while they’re capping a point

Now:
-Enemies get…crippled for 2s, looking at the big picture what those 2s cripple will do?….absolutely nothing, you won’t stop pursuing enemies from reaching you and neither help your allies if they’re getting pressured.
This skill was both an excellent control & support skill…now it’s neither of those, a complete decision failure, this skill is garbage..100% garbage

Before:
-The increased radius was enough to force an opponent to dodge or take the full dmg, furthermore the delay was slighty less

Now:
-Decreased radius ( by roughly 30%) which help the enemy in the sense that you can walk out of it without any need of wasting a dodge, the damage has been decreased along with the delay…why? is there any sense behind this decision?

Before:
-The 50s CD was justified by the fact that I was able to Kd a foe for 3s ,allowing me to combo burst him with dragons’tooth and phoenix effectively.

Now:
-The CD it’s the same but the kd effect has been reduced by 1s making the CD completely unnecessary and unjustified, why we should have a multiple targets KD+ dmg at 45s(earthquake) along with a 50s CD single target kd with no dmg…where is the logic behind it?

What are your opinions about these changes?

Seriously, ele’s are right in the middle from what I can see. I feel we are on a good level with warriors. They are balanced quite well with rangers, which probably need a slight power boost.

However our staff aim like kitten, is slow as kitten, and does kittenty damage.

We barely have enough health if we try to make a precision or damage build, and even then we can hurt a lot of people at once but rarely can get close enough to finish them because we die in 2 or 3 hits. Versus a thief we have ZERO chance, it’s not even worth trying to fight, I just let my character kittening die instead of pathetically trying to run away. VS a mesmer we have a 15% chance to win.

You can make credible damage with the fiery great sword but have to run away immediately after to survive. Anyway, nerving the ele = bad idea.

Amazing game – great mac version BUT:

Things better about Guild Wars 1:
- PvP was flat-out better
- Skill diversity gave more control over builds.
- Combat was more calculated and less hectic. Highly time-based without being frustrating.
- The dungeons are so much better. (loved UW, FoW and SF)
- Achievements felt important
- Caters to the hardcore audience
- The events just seemed better… hard to explain…

Things better about Guild Wars 2:
- Exploration is actually enjoyable. The first time.
- Helping and being helped by strangers is awesome.
- Easier for casual gamers to pick up.
- More features / activities. More social.

Notes:
GW2 provides the illusion of choice when it comes to builds. Losing the trinity was a dumb thing to do.
GW2 caters to the Casual gamers while alienating Hardcore gamers. All the FUN parts of the game are designed for casual gamers, like WvW (for instance) whereas the dungeons are nowhere near the quality that they should be. They’re an insult.

My MAIN disappointments?

GUILD WARS 2 has no Guild Wars at all. No GvG?!!
Skill versatility? What’s that?! There’s about two viable builds for each profession, everything else is trash.

Yeah I agree with all of this. I like GW2, it looks nice and the community is nice, but GW1 was a more focused game and the dungeons kicked kitten

Same here, and I heard it’s not on Mac only. Crashes in large WvW battles —> seems to be sound related. It’s didn’t happen before the Christmas patch.

In GW1 you would do the main quest (which is fun) with other people while in GW2 you do it by yourself (which is kinda boring and weird for a mmo) and meet people farming along the way.

I like the addition of events however because often people will come to help you out, however how can you have people help you on the main quest if everyone has different missions. in short, they tried to do too much (multi-branch stories) without consideration for the community:
If it was possible to enter a queue and join others when they wish to do the quest it would be nice.

The lack of Guild halls is a huge step back. They could have used the assets from GW1 for the moment and update them later.

Also I find it harder in GW2 as a Ele to do combos than in was in GW1. In GW1 pvp as a air Ele I could chain all my spells and they seemed to make a bigger impact on the battle. Now it’s more complex – I get the benefit, but maybe the tutorials are lacking in that department.

Trying to join a new guild – the invite was sent to me – but I can’t click on “Account Guilds”. Makes a beep noise.

I received an answer, support apparently changed their mind and I received the few items. Issue resolved.

I can’t read French, so I’m afraid I cannot really respond to the specifics of your case. But if there was an issue with the purchase site — buy.guildwars2.com — we will make it right. If the situation was simply that you purchased before the promotional period, we cannot address that, because the period of the promotion is firmly set, and we cannot do “work-arounds” to expand the promotional period.

Normally if you buy a product (for example a television or a computer) and the price drops dramatically the following week the store will subtract the amount more you have paid (there is usually a 1 month period). Now this may be different, internet market is not really regulated, but we’re talking about something that I noticed minutes after my download started (when do we consider the product has been opened on a digital purchase?). I believe I may took notice of it before buying, I’m just not sure because I bought it impulsively.

That mentioned, can we at least confirm that I bought it before the special was announced? At what date/time precisely was the deal announced on the website? I made the purchase on December 7th at 16:24, eastern time.

You can run it in windowed mode.

So why is the problem just boiling in this thread? The website misdirected buyers and the content announced wasn’t unlocked upon purchase (same thing for me). Every discussion about the actual value of the content is irrelevant.

For me on Mac it crashes only when I quit when it logs off…

I too bought my copy online, from the main site. When I purchased the game it didn’t allow me to buy the deluxe edition for the same price as the ad on the main page showed.

OK so that’s what happened! I think it may have to do with the language redirection between GW websites: I got sent back and forth between a French and English website.

And the support didn’t help: Someone from account support just replied by email saying she cant do anything – “sorry”. Why hire employees if they cannot do anything to help? A “sorry” will not resolve the situation.

Join a guild if you haven’t. It’s easier to find friendly people there.

But your remark is valid, I just bought it and have the same impression; everyone is soloing this game… I think I got my first “hi” after 3-4 hours of gameplay, and after inviting someone myself.

Thanks for all the reply, everything is fine except that they released the dlx edition for free during my download and I do not have access to it because I bought the game like 1 hour before they announced the deal.

I will try lowering the resolution in case it makes such a fps boost.
Edit: nice, I can max it out with shadows at ultra in 1080p and keep a steady 30fps.

I just bought the game yesterday and do not have access to the deluxe edition content.
How does one do the free upgrade to the deluxe edition?

Quick initial feedback: it seems to be working without a glitch, frame rate is stable at 30fps with raised detail levels in 1440p. Perhaps you should consider lowering the minimum system requirements for mac.

Because the game download agent has the decency not to tell you how long it will take to download the remaining 175000 files before you play it for the first time…

This is an apple bug introduced in the 10.8.2 os update… Tons of posts about it, audio professionals are screaming for it to be fixed.

Just bought GW2 for Mac and I’m pretty excited.
Thanks for making the port.

Now I sadly missed the Free Trial so there is no way to know really if the game will work well on my system. I had to base my decision to buy your game on a forum post by someone with the same computer configuration. I imagined my computer to be strong enough, but it falls below the video card requirements.

Anyway, anyone tested this configuration? :

Second question:
Is the initial download really 25 gigs, or can we start before it’s fully downloaded like in GW1? 25 gigs will take an eternity at 620k/sec… (apparently something like 12 hours…)
