Yeah they messed up this class with the nerfs but the moment you have some gold you can just craft another class to 80 in a few hours. I made 4 now and they are all better than the ele. In my opinion the problem with the ele is that the skills arent responsive at all. The casting time and recharge times are way too long.

With my thief I can bring someone down faster than I can cast meteor shower with my ele.

I get the same crashes as well. From what I can understand it only happens when there are tons of people at the same area, it doesn’t matter where.

There must be a bug somewhere, a game shouldn’t crash even if it has poor performance.

I was running 10/30/0/10/20 (staff) lately with great success and OK damage. I stayed alive just because I’m good at dodging and smometimes going to die with vapor form at the feet of the other classes that stay alive longer.

I’m now running 0/30/0/20/20 (20 more in water) because of some GvG stuff (we organize those ourselves because Anet is too focuses on PvE to implement it – even if the game is called GUILD WARS)

It’s quite sad however that I cannot run the build I was running at the release, which was 30/30/0/0/10. All the unjustified nerfs ruined that build and made it unplayable: How can you survive without points in water if you cant heal in mist form, have less mobility than other classes and less health?

Anyway, I use my ele only to farm now because of the aoe, else I moved to other classes.

Time to revisit Ele nerfs.

Man when I think my thief (new level 80 – not ascend) can Backstab for over 9k, can spam the second skill 3 times (4k each times) to bring down the poor guy, use shadow refuge as the rest of his team arrives and finish him as they are resuscitating him without them ever seeing me, and get away without any problem while they are hitting air… When I think that I realize that THE ELE AOE, HEALING AND MOBILITY SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN NERFED. (sorry for caps… artistically intended). The developers failed with this class to acheive game balance, they should undo all of the elementalist nerfs.

So I looked into this, and I thought it was fixed. Are you still seeing it? Where are you seeing it? What’s getting through? Keep in mind that condition damage will still tick, but NEW condies should not be able to go through.

I do not understand the design philosophy behind condition damage while in mist form.
Now that utility skills are no longer usable in mist form, all you can do is stand there helpless and watch your health go down for 4 seconds from stacks of condition damage. Healing in mist form would compensate for the condition damage, but now using mist form can be a death trap.

At least the tool-tip should be change to reflect that you can still be immobilized and suffer conditions.

I think the other major issue is people go into classes with expectations of how it’s going to play and what they expect/want from a class even if it was never really designed to perform that way.

I’ve made a lot of classes. I like most of them for their own various reasons, but I always end up coming back to the Ele because it has everything I want in a class instead of 1 or 2 things.

It’s actually the opposite in my case, I was playing the Ele for months, and the nerfs just broke my playing style. For other people that didn’t play my way perhaps the nerfs passed unnoticed. But healing in mist form and changing to daggers (I was playing mostly staff) to travel faster with RTL are things I was doing every 2 minutes. Going to mistform and seeing for the first time my healing ability gone (and also my elite summons) was a huge letdown for me, so was the RTL range and cd.

Imagine they just decided that in the next patch the Guardian gsword 4th skill would take 1 minute to recharge and the range would be limited to 300 instead of 600: You would always hit the skill because your used to it (by reflex) and nothing would happen, then you would have to wait 3 times what you waited before to use it again: it’s just not cool.

Elementalist or Thief?

I stopped playing my elementalist since Anet destroyed the way I played the class (glass canon). I made a guardian since then which is really fun to play, and a ranger, equally fun but less fun than the guardian in WvW I find.

I am currently levelling a thief, my 4th character, and it’s true that it is VERY easy to play and has by far the biggest single-target dmg burst.

There is just not much point playing this class anymore beside the fun of bashing 4 times more button than other classes. They’ve unbalanced it. My new ranger is dealing way more damage with the great-sword just bashing a few keys, it has a bigger health pool, and its traits aren’t even optimized yet nor is he equipped with ascended gear.

I’ve made a lv80 Ranger and a lv80 Guardian since they nerfed the Ele into oblivion (as most agree with that).

It’s incredible how much these class feel stronger and faster (staff ele speeds are still incredibly slow) with less effort (no need to change attunements every 2-3 seconds), without spending months on ascended gear and optimizing your build to the extremes, unlike the trouble you have to go through to make a ele that isn’t totally worthless.

Frost Bow: needs range increase to 1500 and 50% dmg increase on first and last skill.
Magnetic shield: needs a 200% dmg increase
Fiery sword: need to be a real weapon, no time limit.
Hammer: needs a 100% dmg increase

Glad to see I’m not the only one missing it.

Now that they are adding new conditions (like torment) and that these conditions continue to damage your health while in mistform, what was supposed to help you becomes a death trap as for 4 seconds your bleeding and other conditions keep on going.

Anyway, the only solution is to put all your points in water for a cantrip bunker build but then an elementalist isn’t very fun to play when you do less damage than other people and have the longest casting times. I use to be able to zerg out with 12k health, now even with 15k I find it less easy to survive.

I remember Mist Form heals. It made my sustained offensive build somewhat playable. Those few seconds of uninterrupted healing was a God send when you’ve given up going heavy water in favor of fire.

This is exactly what I comes to my mind…

The problem has to do with the speed of the ele skills which is too slow. With Mist form and the arcana bubble we can sometimes stop the burst, but fighting back against someone that output 14k dmg in 1 sec when it takes you 5 seconds to output 4k dmg on the strongest skill crit is ridiculous.

Yes and you should be able to get the skins back when you buy them (like the achievement skins). Doing an accidental transmutation on an item you bought with real money is terrible.

I have both classes at 80 and I like them both. The Ele has more interesting build possibilities and takes more time to master. Currently my Ele does more damage than my guardian in zerg battle and mist form is probably the best/most useful WvW skill along with guardian Aegis/regen/retaliation.

The problem with temporary content is when you have contract jobs and have to take a 1 month break because a few contracts come in at the same time. You end up missing tons of stuff and important part of the living story.

Otherwise the quality of the new content is great, I just wished I could enjoy all of it.

Not sure what to do not since there are no undo and I can’t spend money to buy it back.

False. An ele with decent toughness and skills can hold their own against a thief 1v1.

… Sure some bunker D/D ele can survive a thief, but about 5% of experienced eles can bring one down – and only sometimes. Meanwhile a relatively unexperienced thief can bring down any fully ascended-gear non-bunker ele in 2 seconds.

Thanks, well what is given is debatable and up to Anet. I just think the winning server should have “something” for a weeks long of group effort. Guild influence is an interesting concept.

The titles says it all, I think everyone on a server (or perhaps only those who have a certain amount of Wxp) that win the WvW week should have a special chest with some t6 materials and an increased chance at a precursor.

The way I see it:
At the extremes: Ele is the best for zerg battles and the worse for 1vs1; they can really affect the entire enemy zerg and lay down most of the fields. Thief is the best for 1vs1 and worse for zerg but they can be amazing commanders.

Other classes are more balanced in regards of what they can do. Necros and mesmers are good in both zerg and 1vs1. Guardians and engineers are better for zergs but still good in 1vs1 while rangers and warriors are the mirror opposite.

I used to play an ele (changed to a guardian after the dramatic nerf). A Thief gets an ele down in 1 sec.
Still I don’t care, since in group battles the thief can do less. I find it’s a necessary imbalance and that the thief is fine as it is. What they need to do is, boost other classes, for example they should remove AoE limit on Ele to compensate for the ridiculously low damage the staff does (and the very long cast times). That would also put an end to the ridiculous stacking.

Well, since the last epic-nerf I made a guardian which is now lv 50.
It doesn’t do much damage yet but it can still survive in WvW as well as my lv 80 maxed out ele and doesnt “feel” nerfed. The traits bonus are much better, some of the traits are identical to ele traits, but better. The unique elites are way better as well.

Just saying… that upcoming trait fix will determine whether or not I play my ele again.

Guardians and Eles have exactly the same base health. If your Guardian had more health, it’s because you built him with more Vitality.

Guardians are very good at taking hits but their ability to escape from a zerg is quite limited as they don’t have anything like Ride the Lightning or Lightning Flash. If the zerg catches up to them, they can do is stall, whereas an Ele just needs to get within mistform-range of a keep

Either your wrong about the health, or there is something very wrong with the upscalling.
My guardian (not even level 30 yet) has absolutely no good gear (level 24 armor) and it has more health (19500hp) with only 10 points in vitality trait; My ele as all ascended (tons of vitality, also a corrupted staff that gives bunch more), 25 points in water, and ends up at 18500hp.

Levelling a guardian until they buff the elementalist.
In all the class I feel that is the one that plays the most similarly.

And at level 20 the guardian already had more health than my half-bunker Lv80 fully-optimized Ele with ascended equipment. My level 28 guardian can survive in WvW almost as easily as the level 80 ele and his healing is already twice better.

There is a definitive imbalance between the amount of time required to make a powerful Ele that can survive WvW and the other classes.

Problem is that it’s about 100 times harder to make a legendary now than it was when the game was released. At the forced slowed-down pace I may have one by the end of 2013, if the game can keep me interested that long…

One thing is certian for me and its NOT the Elementalist Skills that are the best.

The stupid AI make our low-health summons useless in a WvW battle. They usually take 10 seconds just to do something. Our hounds only last 30 seconds and are unsummoned just before they could do their strongest attack a second time.

Tornado doesnt do any damage and prevent you from healing or anything else.

Fiery great sword doesnt target well (the blade attack 4 times only the first selected target – if it moves away you have 3 misses before you can target someone else) it also removes the possibility of using water to heal and it doesnt compensate for the lowest armor elementalist have…

And wow, the other elites are not even worth mentioning.

T6 Dust Crisis

Sort of a rant there but I’m getting to the point eventually:

Generally the drops in this game are just bad or uninteresting.
Have you ever equipped an item that was dropped by a monster? Me never!
Have you ever had a mini drop in the game world? NO. An ascended Amulet? No. etc.

But this is due to a worse problem: stats on weapons and armor are totally generic – obviously computer generated : 60 of this and that, 90 of something else…
You buy transmutation crystals, replace 60 vitality for 60 toughness and your not even sure if there is a difference.

How about an weapons that has 5 stats instead of 3? How about precursors having 1% more total stats and legendaries 3%. It’s not like it’s going to unbalance the game since obviously they want some class to be totally overpowered compared to others (thief vs Elementalist for example). Some weapon stats imbalance would do some good to the game/market/loot actually.

Now the nerf to Tier 6 material drop go into that same tunnel vision as the equipment stats: Anet suddenly realized we found a spot in the game (Manchor Leap) where we could get Crystalline dust. Instead of encouraging people to look for places where they can get good drops and the drops they are looking for, they nerfed it to the ground like everything else; making sure we do not get what we need.

It’s a huge mistake. First of all, because of that attitude:
1- I am never investing again real money on the market place
2- the game world is getting equally uninteresting because you have no reason to go to a specific area to get the required item.

What Anet is telling us is: The game will almost never give you interesting drop so repeat the same dungeon to make gold and buy what you need on the market place (which is what we’ve been doing since day 1 but it’s just getting worse).

But seriously, the farming nerf is dramatic for the following reason:
At Malchor Leap you could get the 750 Crystalline dust required for a Bifrost within a few weeks. Now you have to find 300 gold (and its rising) just for that one Tier 6 material (there are 7 others mats required). This will takes 10 times longer and in all honestly many of us are no longer sure we have the patience required.
Since by the time we are done a new epic MMO will have been released Anet should rethink their angle on nerfing loot.

Pretty much. Currently there are under 500 available T6 dust – they are almost 40s a piece.

yup, thats 300 gold just to get the crystalline dust required to do a bifrost… And you cannot farm for it anymore, so your just expected to repeat dungeons 5000 times.

The prices went way up because Anet has nerfed the only good farm spot for cystalline dust to ZERO drops. They could have reduced the % of good drops but nope, they had to make it so that wraiths do no longer drop anything at all.

Result: prices of crystalline dust went up 15 silver (roughly 40-50% more).
This makes going for the Bifrost so much more annoying… (as it requires 750 crystalline dust – now over 250 gold)

Just try to play an elementalist and you’ll see… You spend 5 sec casting a spell that crit at 4k dmg , someone come hit you 3 times 8k dmg in less than 1 second and your down.

The issue I have is that the game never lets me sell more than 10 materials (or over 2 gold) at the time (and then I have to wait 15-30 minutes)… So yeah selling is also broken for me.

Because they kill average elementalists in 2 hits and if you hit them back they just become invisible?

Surviving a thief burst is the only reason why all elementalists had to go bunker.

That said, I don’t think they should nerf thieves but instead they should buff the ele base toughness or vitality.

The thief isn’t the problem here. For all I care they can leave it as it is.
The problem is for me the way Anet has made the elementalist the hardest class to master that I’ve seen in any videogame; and even when you master it completely the thief will still kill you in 2-3 hits or you may perhaps run away.

Now they’ve even nerfed our the elementalists ability to run away and our ability to heal in Mist form (mist form was our only anti-thief-burst skill). Previously if you had an elementalist with 13000hp (that was the norm before they started to nerf the class) you could do OK damage and hit mistform-heal when a thief would backstab you, therefore you could somewhat continue the battle.

Now every elementalist had to go bunker with 17-18000hp because Anet quite frankly broke our elementalists builds. This reduced our damage output by about 25%-33% and our mobility has been nerfed I would say by 25% as well.

All this to say that the thief isnt overpowered – it’s the elementalist (and perhaps the engineer) that have become seriously underpowered.
