Well about the festivals: I love SAB. Absolutely love it. Wish we’d get more worlds.

Only… when it was back now, I totally didn’t play it. Think I’ve spent all of 30 minutes in there. Why? Because I know the current worlds, and there’s nothing different than before. At the very least (no new worlds, alright, annoying as that is) I’d have expected a new set of achievements pertaining to the HoT and LS3 in some way, or combining some of it into SAB.

But there’s… nothing. Though to be fair that’s something I’m saying a lot about GW2 recently and I’m playing it very little as a result. The game is stale. Not on a content level even, I dislike the new maps because of how throwaway they feel (so rote they’re boring before you even entered a new one), but on a game level.

Ofc there’s little hype. What would be there to hype? A new gemstore outfit? There’s no massive class-reworks to bring old players back with, no underlying combat reworks, no base change to how WvW works including ripping out the entire game mode, nothing exciting.

I’m pretty sure that they have been milking GW2 for a while and have a large part of their team making assets for the next project. There is no way a team that large would come out with a small expansion pack like HoT.

not too likely, and hot wasnt that small, if you compare it to arenanets content they have released.

From all info leaks it appears arena net has been struggling with long hours and tight deadlines since guild wars 2 started, some top people left to work on new games with better work life balance. They had to pull people from LS to work on HoT release. Its unlikely they were working on gw3 when hot was released.

It’s more likely that they were strained because of what I said. Do you really think that a team their size working full time for years with an engine and dev tools already finished could only come out with HoT? It’s about 15% of the full original game and that’s being generous. They would never have been able to make GW2 at that pace.

That’s a really good point. Could be they started work on something like a Guild Wars 3 at the point or soon after HoT began, yeah.

Devs are probably shifted to the next project gradually as they become needed, you always need people thinking way ahead in a company else you’re toasted by the competition. You need to prepare the lore, engine, the dev tools and assets early on so that when it’s time you can add artists to the production team.

Everyone should just take a break and see if they care about having 32 empty maps.

It should be permanently pinned on top of the Elementalist class forum.

Remember, remember, we could once play zerk d/d in WvW.

Before = fun, with build variety
After = not fun / frustrating, with no build variety

Anet didn’t understand that the Occupy SAB riots was a huge chance for them to show they cared and are listening to the community.

Instead they took it as an insult. Another company like Blizzard would have jumped on that opportunity and give us more than we asked for (example make a SAB DLC with different modes including competitive areas), which is why they have so much success.

When people are telling you “take my money” you should understand that you have a good idea in your hands.

Mike O’Brien explained how we choose to communicate in this forum post a few years ago. What he said was, "We’ve set a clear policy in the past year: we don’t talk speculatively about future development. We don’t want to string you along.

Right. So no talk of future developments. What about priorities and values? How do you see WvW as a game mode and where would you want it to be? What are its best features and what do you feel needs improvement?

Is it all just “management” to you?

It’s also a very bad marketing strategy (for reference compare it with Blizzard’s daily communication and how much of an interest it creates on their forum and reddit), but I understand where they come from in the sense that they made the mistake of spoiling most of HoT before releasing it.

I think that a middle ground could be found, somewhere in the middle between,n “We’ve been working on scoring changes for the last 6 months. Ok? Bye.” and “Hello folks how is it going today?”

Obviously it takes much organization to communicate on an almost daily basis, but the balance changes would be a great place to start since they are so much needed.

If you’ve played any MMO before even GW1 you know conditions are not supposed to burst at all,

If you played any MMO you should know that MMOs should be vertical progression with gear grinds.

wait

Precedent is not a rule. The idea that DoTs can’t burst is not a rule. Anet chose to be innovative rather than shoehorning everything into decades old tropes.

So… using a decade old balanced system is not ok because it’s better to be different for the sake of being different? Nice argument. You should apply for ANet lol.

All I’m saying is condi should have ramp up time, not bomb someone instantly.

I’m kinda saying the same with different words. It makes no sense to have conditions burst as much as raw damage; and the loss of build variety for classes like the elementalist demonstrate that failure in design.

It’s also extremely frustrating to die simply because conditions piled up faster than your cleanses cooldowns and not because you didn’t time a dodge right.

It removes skill out of the fights and turns it into a build wars game.

Just wanted to say that this is an interesting suggestion! The team is interested in feedback on this idea and will continue watching this thread. However, just because we are following this thread doesn’t guarantee we will add it as a feature.

It is a great idea for the expansion I find, specially if nice visual effects are implemented with the buffs.

However I feel that more importantly something needs to be changed in order to bring the community together, the server linking isn’t working well. If I had just 1 very basic wish for the new xpac it would be that servers are grouped in 3 alliances and that we could guest on the servers freely to play with our friends.

People seem to have the idea that Conditions aren’t supposed to be lethal.

They supposed to be but bot in seconds, condi burst is a dead idea and should have been never implemented.

4k a second is not ‘burst’ because you are SUPPOSED to cleanse it. a power build that hits you with huge spikes of damage is however not ‘normalised’

You can’t compare these. Conditions stack up and tick every seconds while you can keep attacking. A cleanse only cleanse a few of them and if you’re out of cleanse you can’t use dodging skills to survive, you just die because someone used a cheesy lame build.

Power burst happen once and then everything is back on cool down. A block usually blocks everything for a few seconds so you don’t get piled up with attack damage like with condi. This is what made WvW playable for squishy classes in the first 2 years. Because of the condi buffs it’s no longer possible to play zerk d/d ele for example (was viable even in WvW zerg fights), one of the most fun builds GW2 has been gone for years. Build variety went way down as cheesy condi builds took over.

Just remind you all this is only a game and it is post to be fun.

These forums have rules and everyone that signed has signed up to play the has also agreed to obey the forum rules too.

The rules are there for a reason so if you cannot obey the forum rules that are outlined then do not post anything at all.

I have got tired seeing as Gaile Gray said in the beginning

Lately, we’ve noticed a a growing number of posts like this:

  • I hear [this world] is dead
  • I don’t like the links between [this world] and [that world]
  • Why does [XX world] get an better link than mine?
  • I hear [this world] pays groups to join

Many of you think it is maybe simple and easy for ArenaNet to flip over backwards for everyone.

Just to let you all it is not easy because I have a real job that I work at in the information technology field and I do the similar work as ArenaNet does in a way. I help a company support thousands of customers of customers around the world every day as well help as a network technician and web developer.

The company I work for use to have forum but they have close it down because of similar posts were being posted and things got out of hand. At first the company started banning those being a problem from posting on the forums and they those were banned would create a new account and keep doing it so the company deleted the forums all together.

So, from first hand experience I know how the staff at ArenaNet feels. So, before you post something put yourself in the ArenaNet staff shoes and ask yourself is this according to the forums rules or not?

The same way as forums needs to be applied inside the game too. If you cannot respect others including ArenaNet staff by saying nice things and being helpful to others including ArenaNet staff then do not play the game. This is meant to be fun for everyone not just for a few people.

Sorry for how feel but you need look at things differently and help ArenaNet make the game better in a better way. As well as to help others and being nice others in the game. This is called real “Team Work” working together for a common goal.

As I said earlier, the WvW community is extremely fragmented because the amount of servers is completely disproportional to the amount of players in the game.

If you want people to be happy about WvW then, before balance, before rewards, before scoring, we need to strengthen the community by:
(1) Merging all the servers in 3 alliances so that anyone can rebuild their WvW friends community. There is no reason important enough to justify why you shouldn’t be able to play with your friends. Not being able to play with our friends is a huge problem in this game, I would say it is the biggest barrier to an happy community.
(2) Add a guild latter with detailed statistics to give a reason for the community to be competitive. A true reward is knowing that you’ve improved your skill versus others as a guild group and see your contribution as a player.

Loot rewards and skill balance are the cherry on the top, but if the ice-cream is melted that cherry won’t hold. And the community right now is like melted ice cream.

I loved this game WvW, I’ve had crazy mad fun with tons of friends playing WvW and GvG in the first 2 years of the existence of the game. I used to buy gems once or twice every months and only play WvW. However I’ve taken a break, for reasons that were discussed in other threads, mostly gameplay/balance/GvG-scene related.

When I do come back here on the forum it is to take some news and see how things are evolving. I usually find few news or none at all. So far in 2017 all we know is that you’ve been working on fixing scoring and rewards for a long time.

When I launch the game in nostalgia, I find that all my friends play on different servers, most of which are mostly empty except for a few hours a day at peak times. I can’t play with these remaining GW2 friends however because your server system is dividing the WvW community into many sub groups (that you call servers). Because of that I end up closing the game, because playing a MMO without your online friends defeats the purpose.

I can’t help but wonder why you haven’t implemented a megaserver system for WvW with guesting features, like some other MMO have done.

So to sum this up, it’s just sad that a game with so much potential would breaks that potential at the social level, both in and out of the game. Only a few important choices in development could drastically improve the atmosphere if they were implemented swiftly and with good communication.

Wishing you all the best with the WvW development that we must presume is underway for the new expansion,

Also Eso population, talking about cyrodil, any of you playing it, opinions?

I play Cyrodiil AvA in ESO. Tho I will say. Just to get the gear and Champion Points to become competitive in Cyrodiil is a very long road in it’s own right. ESO is a MMORPG that harms the causal and I can’t be bother to get gud type players. It empowers the players who put forth massive time and effort into improving. ie. 8v100 and winning, the 8 being dedicated try hard PvPers and the 100 being the casual no skill, just spam numbers zerglings.

If you are truly looking to open up a dialog. On the topic you can find me on this Discord server https://discord.gg/QX4HM
ESO and GW2 are polar opposites far as which players they invite to compete.

You probably didn’t hear about ESO xpac. They have new pvp battlemodes on the way: 4v4v4. I think there is still hope on that side.

HOT completely ruined the game for me, I played the game from beta and have literally played every day since launch. But now I just play for dailies and on occasion do fractals with friends. The game should be called cc wars now, condition wars w/e. I used to love my war, getting in the mix, hitting stuff with a axe or gs. But with HOT that was taken away, now things like mobs in bloodstone fen that hit you from 3 miles away, or mesmer mobs in dorlic lake that drop 30 circles when they do their gs attack. My problem is when a light armor class like a necro has more survivability than a heavy armor class, you also introduce a healer class. Why not introduce a HA tank class with true taunts or better survival skills? I loved this game when it came out, but now I have unfortunately drifted away.

Hot was just rushed out unfinished, even the elementalist elite profession didn’t have an elite skill a few weeks before the launch, they just stuck some aura and stats change on a premade visual effect instead of making something cool.

It’s hard to fix something that hits so far off the mark. It’s better to start anew, so they started on a new expansion pack and cancelled the unfinished part of HoT and released the rest as LS3. This explains why we get these nice explorable maps with no content in them besides some enemies to farm.

Don’t tell false facts. The ele had his elite long time ago.

I don’t think you know. I was beta testing HoT. They canned the HoT elementalist elite skill in the last beta trial because all the testers complained it didn’t do anything at all and it was bugged on top of it. They started over a new one just before the release. It was completely rushed our and that’s why it’s kitten.

Build diversity died the day they forced everyone to commit to 3 full trait lines instead allowing players the options to mix and match their points into different ones.

I warned them it would ruin diversity before they did it and they even replied to me: “It’s too soon to tell”.

I replied that no it isn’t “too soon to tell” and that they were making a big mistake if they don’t even know what the outcome will be. Thus followed the big balance mess that lasted almost 2 years so far… Because they couldn’t see clearly and their mindset was set on marketing instead of being focused on the gameplay.

They naively played with what kept this game together without having any idea what it was or why it worked. They really do deserve everyone leaving shortly after HoT.

So many years to get their act together. This is what happens when you don’t balance your game. If you don’t have a balanced skillful game that is appealing to uninitiated people, no one is going to watch and your e-sports scene will die.

Shame cuz the combat feels so good, tons of potential.

Class balance issues aside to many arbitrary things got pushed away because of practice standards that don’t ultimately promoted balance.

“Can’t change X, without chaining Y for consistency!” Even if it means changing X and leaving Y alone would be healthier? lol okay, hope you’re happy.

I do honestly hope the game learns from this and gets better.

We’ve warned them over and over. Sometimes it sucks to be right.

If there is one lesson to learn from this it is that you can’t mistreat the elementalists community. They won’t ever forget.

Can the pvp scene be fixed? Yes, here's how.

in PvP

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

It’s quite simple really. You can’t have a competitive scene when the skill and class balance rewards using cheap tricks and passive stuff like stacking condi more than skills relying on evades and counter mechanics.

That will just end up ruining the build variety and alienating the best players that didn’t spend thousand of hours practicing just to get beaten by a new player using a metabattle condi build.

The competitive scene dying is the result of absolutely abysmal skill and balance. Something which a lot of us have been warning about… And we offered plenty of solutions to fix it, for years.

When all the roles are set in stone and the outcome doesn’t feel deserved how can a game mode survive competitively?

Not surprising at all. The ESL venture started at a poor time in the game’s balance and competitive structure (HoT balance, changes/removal of ranked/team/solo/leaderboards, etc.), and continued throughout it.

Maybe more troubling for me is the absolute lack of direction with the game now. We really don’t get updates anymore of what is being worked on in any areas of the game in the long term. Yes, we get small “living story” patches, “new” competitive seasons with minor adjustments and balances, and rehashed festivals. We are all guessing there is an expansion pack coming, but it has been about 1.5 years since HoT, when will we hear about this? It has been over a year since Colin left, and I know Mike’s policy is not to talk until the product is ready. But how about talking at all? To not lose the interest of your consumers?

And I don’t think the game’s current state is due to lack of market demand for this type of game. But rather due to the continued fumbling on ArenaNet’s part. As much as people laugh about the words “pvp” and “mmorpg” used together, I really think it is in demand, and Gw2 (thanks to the ease of entry/gear availability/etc) should be in the best position to make it work. Very hard to remain optimistic though…

I’m interested to see if ESO’s upcoming battleground mode will make it into ESL or if it will have the same balance issues that came to ruin GW2 pvp.

Eles was not destroyed, the only thing removed was the cele ele, and a rework on Diamond Skin (that is not a nerf, only a reasonable rework).

Ele should obtain a different role, that’s correct, but I also want a different role for my necro than spam corrupts and die. I’m asking for that since long time ago. nothing happen. but we still hope!

Ele still can play different roles than healbot, you can play staff dps or fresh air build. they’re viable, if you use the correct utility to survive and flee. For shure not the best dps of this meta but still viable, with high defensive skills and high aoe/single target damage (depending on the build).

you can play a different role, the “problem” is that the ele is so good to be a healbot that you’ll be forced to play that because every player will ask you to heal.

The ele is a healbot but still able to inflict damage, the meta build use the Mender amulet, that grant you high Power and good precision. If you add a permanent Fury, you’re able to inflict a seriously good direct damage if you make some practice with skill rotation.
The ele meta isn’t a pure healbot as the cleric guardian was for years, forced to be only a support class and nothing more for ages, you can hit hard and fast with the lightning attunement (the overcharge inflict a really good aoe direct damage, for example).

Yes, it’s not strong as the warrior but it’s the bunker build that inflict the better damage ever of this last seasons, granting you the best survavibility and team utility of this game.

A good ele can really make his team win, you’re not “only a healbot”, you’re the heart of your team. if you survive your team survive.

You got some nerfs because ele was able to inflict damage as a dps, survive as a bunker and heal as a support, spamming might and condi clean all the time (with auras everywhere since the HoT release).

Claim back the Celestial is not the answer.

ask for a better rework on weapons, for better synergie between your traits, ask for better utility skills, but not to have back the celestial to become OP again.

The ele still have more defensive skills than all the other classes and can inflict a really good damage with different dps builds. There’s seriously no need to have back the celestial amulet.

You can make a DH and roll your face on the keys without having ever played the class and you’ll end up doing better than an elementalist that has been practicing for 5000 hours.

This is where your diversity is. In the long end the elementalist class has been destroyed. When the game was launched you could play elementalist with a zerk amulet and be viable.

I personally think WvW wasn’t that good a content.. it seems to be a mindless zerg fest where the other zerg is also mindless, do we really need more content for that

No, that’s why we need a overhaul of the current content. They need to fix kitten (servers, rewards, scoring, tournaments, eotm, etc).

A third borderland would be nice however, but only if done with that overhaul.

Sigil Proposals v2

The change is like this. A large downgrade of options and power in sigils. Shure this leads to more balance again scrapping diversity. I don´t know who is making desicions but diversity is the main key for long term exitement. Games without options can be fun for two days then i discard them.

They seem so lost when it comes to fixing the broken class balance and lack of diversity that they just do random stuff like this sigil change to create a short time period where people are experimenting a bit. Then they’ll spend the next year wondering why it didn’t work and why they are losing more players.

Then, the main problem of the Opener was that he’s forced to play as a healer?
A lot of classes had they’re role in this game and still have one.

The ele was a insanely bunker class with insane dps and heal, something that have to not happen again.
The problem is that that class was strong and funny, with basicly no counters and able to kill everyone. And eles, obviously, wants to turn back to be on top tier.

I’m sad but now the ele have to chose between heal/support and a dps build that let him vulnerable as every other class, with still a lot of defensive and really viable skills that grant him to survive and flee if he need.

You seem to forget that the elementalist class was destroyed to the point of being only a healing bot class. We lost all the might on the fire line, might itself was nerved, now they will nerf the elementalist sigils… Every classes has gain damage with HoT except for the elementalist.

Can we just make the class viable again without making it a heal bot class?

Nerf or remove the condi

Condi cap won’t fix it anyway as you will be dead way before you get burns to stack to 25.

The condi cap coud be global instead of being per condi.

- SAB worlds 3-4-5-6-7-8
- WvW Overhaul that isn’t a lie
- GvG game mode replacing PvP
- Fixed trait system and complete rebalance of all the classes and skills
- New PvE maps with actual indoor places to explore and dungeons (not just landscapes for farming)
- Open world dueling

They nerved the might stacking (and also removed the might from the elementalist fire line) to balance the celestial amulet, but because they didn’t communicate with the PvP team the PvP team balanced their game mode by removing the celestial amulet.

In consequence the elementalist class got royally kittened.

After removing the celestial amulet, Anet, being as amazing as ever with balance, forgot to undo all the nerf they’ve done to the elementalist in its name.

Did GW2 lose its identity?

Xillllix.3485

They lost their identity for me (and me as a player) when they stopped focusing on the best parts of this game: WvW, SAB, dungeons, communities etc. and instead tried to imitate other games with eSport PvP, raids, trinity systems, etc.

And yes, HoT being half of a bad expansion didn’t help.

it was removed because it was OP especially on an Ele.

It was removed because bad players complained too much.

Barely touch the game ever since, playing a celestial class without celestial stats is just plain stupid, specially when you’re forced to be a heal bot in a game that brags about having no trinity.

Overwatch is apparently where Anet wants the elementalists to go.
