Is that the improved WvW UI they were talking about? lol. It’s just an icon. Gosh this game sometimes: You leave for a year and when you come back to check how things have evolved you see that nothing has changed. Even SAB is still stuck at world 2.

Maybe they are trying to bring us back to GW1. Haha. God i miss this game.

Since GW2 has been released I’ve never seen a dev post the 3 letters GvG on the forum. GW1 is a classic, like Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament. They can try to remake these great game but they always end up failing because they add on too many gimmicky features before focusing on the core gameplay.

Well at least it prevents completely kittening up classes like with the elementalist.

ESO’s consoles version allowed them to fix the issues with the game and develop much more content than when it was only on PC. They even sold more copies this year than on the initial launch.

It would be completely possible to port Guild Wars 2 to consoles and the game would be playable easily on controllers with some tweaks.

It’s either a lack of ressources or a lack of vision that, sadly, doesn’t make that possible.

Maybe Anet doesn’t have console programmers.

That time has passed, not to sound pessimist but the GvG scene is long gone. Now it’s pretty much the time to play some of the great competitive games out there until GW3 comes along or perhaps a new GW2 expansion if they can turn the expectations upside-down and surprise us.

Overwatch matchmaking is incredibly well done. It takes pretty much everything into account. It would be even simpler in GW2 but I feel they lost so much of the player base that limiting class stacking will double queue time. They should still do it however, as it would bring players back.

Also they have a public testing realm with constant balance tweaks. Anet could certainly learn a thing or 2 from other games.

For example with WvW they need to look at like ESO’s modular campaign and guesting system.

As an elementalist that has currently left the game because of the lack of build variety and the lack of skill/traits balance, you are removing the sigils that I used to play.

Can’t Anet come up with more interesting and original stuff? GW2 needs an electroshock of good ideas right now: new skills, new traits, balance that reward skillplay on all classes, new fields, new viable VARIETY, etc. If your intent is to make sigils more relevant this won’t work.

Anyway not addressing the issues with the elementalist class is one way of making sure that I won’t ever come back.

Many had argued that 5-4-3 would better show the quality of servers, but this is clearly not working out with TC gaining glicko and solidifying themselves in T1 despite not having a good couple weeks.

Why would it show the quality? Who on earth argued that?

The skirmish score isnt the problem.

The reason dominating server keep dominating is because war score is completely out of order since the tier bonuses was introduced.

I present you with two random instances. Just look at it. Look at it

On the left, the difference is 5 camps + SM vs 3 towers and 1 one keep, it should be fairly close with 22 vs 20 points. Yes, Red should actually score higher than Green at base points, but it would be neck to neck literally. PPK would have a big impact. But no, Green dominate with +30 points due to tiers and their keeps will also be heavily defended in comparison because that’s all tier bonuses.

On the right, it gets far worse. At base points, Green would be 4 towers, 1 keep and 1 SM ahead of Red. That’s 16+8+12 points, or a mere 36 points. They are are an impossible to catch 100 points ahead instead because all that is freaking fortified objectives no weak server can even take with less people. And it gets even worse, oh yes! Look at poor Blue here. With two more towers yet 1 less keep, they should literally be at the same PPT as Red. Yet they are 35 points behind.

This is what’s wrong with WvW.

When Anet introduced tier bonuses, they kittened up WvW.

Changing skirmish points is irrevalant without Anet unkittening warscore.

Hey anyone remember the Orb? It was a fun mechanic to score points, and it wasn’t just a number change. I guess Anet would actually need to work to bring it back.

World Vs World 3.0 An Overhaul Is Needed

At this point, they need to merge everything in 3 alliances and have all maps accessible from the same world map (including EotM).

They also need open world dueling but more than anything they need GvG to bring back the franchise to its roots.

They also have to realize that the meta is kitten to play and go back to the more flexible original trait system (where you could have more than 3 lines), something which wont happen anyway.

And they also need to make winning in WvW a thing and find a way to keep matchup close.

Skirmishes are not interesting as well, they need to focus fights around certain points on the map. This was done with the Orb previously (in the best days of WvW).

Pretty much stopped playing PvP when they removed the celestial amulet. Came back a few times and found the new meta terribly boring and frustrating.

They’ll have to announce the new xpac before ESO releases their new Morrowind xpac, otherwise it’s just a terrible marketing strategy and they’ll lose more players.

kitten it sounds like they want to nerf eles dmg more i get that it can support but core ele cant. Did an ele do something to anet when they where kids or something? Its like they have a honest vendetta for the class at this point.

The ele nerfs literally drove me to play other games. It’s always unjustified and they never buff what needs to be buffed.

It’s like they never take into consideration that it’s the squishiest class, that heavy classes now do more burst damage than us, even aoe, and that most class already roll over us as soon as they target us in WvW.

The PvP team is investigating opportunities to update the sigils available in the game mode. This means removing, adding, balancing, and reworking. Our high-level goals include reducing RNG gameplay, promoting counter-play, reducing raw damage output, and removing ineffective choices. Some example changes would be removing on-kill stacking sigils and changing proc sigils to on-next-attack effects.

We are looking for feedback on these goals and potential changes. Feel free to suggest new sigils, sigils that exist in other game modes, or feedback on current sigils.

The sigils aren’t the biggest issue, it’s the skill balancing and trait system.

When it takes 3-4 seconds for a Light class to get a meteor shower down and there is a big circles telling everyone to dodge out, then how is that balance with a Heavy classes using Coalescence of ruin that does over 20k instant damage on 3 targets and a 3 seconds cooldown? The risk must correspond with the reward.

You need to make the light class king of damage builds again (I’m not talking about PvE where enemies stand still), nerf condis and passive skills across the board because they require less skill, bring back the condi cap in WvW to prevent instant death from condi bombs.

THEN fix the sigils. I’m really worried that if you change the sigils you’re going to break the balance even more.

Even swapping a map is too much work for the WvW team.

It took them a year to replace one borderland.

Work being done in a timely manner is possible.

Additionally i’d like to mention that both of those updates I had seen on this actual forum as player based suggestions to enhance dbbl.

The DBL changes may look like they have been done quickly enough because of the poll, but for how long was the map was removed from the game? Anyway it’s too late now, unless the next expansion is 10x larger and better than HoT I don’t see how they can recover.

The Meta is just no more fun to play in GW2, no reasons to play, no tournament, the game no longer works on Mac either, ESO has fixed their stuff and Ow will satisfy most players competitive needs.

Therefore WvW is just continuously losing people.

  1. Release HoT.
  2. Vault doens’t work right with quickness; make quickness not affect it.
  3. Wait 1 year
  4. Make quickness affect Vault.
  5. Wait 1 day
  6. Realize you never fixed the original problem and remove quickness from Vault.

This is why we’ll never get a decent balance patch.

The ele buffs were essentially them undoing a part of the terrible cooldown nerfs of the past 3 years (starting with the RTL nerf that was a such a disappointment). Next balance patch, in 3 months, they’ll probably undo all the Might nerfs the ele had to take in because of the celestial amulet, since there is no more celestial amulet anyway!

They are just so slow to react and they always have to come back on their track because the balance change they make aren’t the right ones.

Meanwhile ESO gained 1.5 million players in 9 months simply because they keep moving forward instead of running in circles. RvR is striving, they have open world dueling and competitive PvP on the way…

With GW2 we have no clue what’s coming up: The balance team seems worried about DPS meter races and meaningless numbers instead of the gameplay itself. The GvG scene left and the PvP competitive teams are leaving (you can’t even queue up as a team…)

I’m curious which dev team you mean here, Xilllix. I’m not clear if it’s anet, or some other game?

Other game… They’ve really stepped it up in quality. Anet balance patch looks like they are running in full circle.

Translation of the balance patch for the elementalist:
“In this balance patch we’re gonna undo a bunch of nerfs done to the elementalist class 6 months ago 6 months ago that turned out to be a disaster, we’re gonna nerf it’s best skill however …”

We’ve been there before with healing skills. What’s next? They’re gonna undo the ridiculous fire line nerfs on cantrips and bring back the only amulet that was fun to play and present it as a balance patch?

I think it’s hopeless at this point. Elementalist has lost it’s mojo and it’s never going to be fun to play again. Recharge time changes trying to fix the disaster caused 6 months ago by unjustifiable nerfs won’t make the gameplay any more interesting, specially considering everything that is not working well anymore with the class.

My guild group Legends Never [DIE] (which has a focus in skilled, organized WvW fighting) went up against a group in response to a friendly group getting hard focused in a fight by a guild 2-3x larger than their current size.

Their original intent was to pincer this larger group with us, but due to the scaling of this skill, we were unable to help them fast enough, forcing my group to pull out of the fight. However, we didn’t get away for free, because the second we initiated the larger group one of our sub-squad members got instantly downed by the power-creep of the skill, Epidemic.

To add, the fight this was from was not near an objective lord nor WvW gate/oil/cannon.

You’re telling me that the light field buffs from the most recent balance patch are a legitimate counter to Epidemic, specifically? In what world will even a skill group (let alone a WvW bystander) be able to counter this sort of “spike” by blasting a field? I think you’re completely detached from the WvW community and you need to really look at what your customers are complaining about, and address them more appropriately, like you did with boon sharing and Signet Of Inspiration.

As someone who understands the strength of this skill and uses it in our composition (2-EPI necromancers) it scales quite astronomically and it requires the attention of your team to balance it better than you claimed to have balanced it with the addition of blasting light fields.

Looking at that gif: That’s why you don’t remove the condi-cap Anet. I hate to say this but I told Anet things would get out of hands the day they removed it. That image sums up in 1 second precisely the reason why I left.

Anyway, it’s been kitten for over a year now, the GvG community is dead and most of my friends moved on to some other MMO where they didn’t ruin their gameplay.

I don’t know what’s the deal with Anet balance team but it seems they do not play their own game.

A lot needs to be done. Playing elementalist at the moment is the most frustrating thing ever. But all classes and competitive game modes (WvW is competitive btw) suffer from the passive builds doing more dps than the active ones, making the gameplay more about builds than skill.

Some skills extremely hard to pull off do little damage in comparison to passive, fast or instant skills that you keep buffing.

“A lot” would be the exact word, too much for a single patch, you should keep your hopes down.

Low health, low dmg on anything but pve glass cannon builds, over reliance on healing power for any kind of sustain…too much to solve…too many patches required.

Nerfing others would do very little, would only give eles a moment of temporary joy

No worries, by hopes couldn’t be lower for GW2, I’ve been playing ESO for the last few months and its got plenty to keep my busy until GW2 makes the elementalist and WvW gameplay fun again.

Anyway it’s not like I have a choice, GW2 Mac client isn’t functional anymore.

They made a dungeon? How can the PvE be in a good place without new dungeons?

All you do on these new maps is farm for skins. They saw that Silverwaste was popular and copied the formula over and over.

They nerfed might traits on the elementalist because of the celestial amulet (ruining staff builds using the fire line in pvp and WvW), then they removed the celestial amulet and didn’t buff the might to how it was before.

There is nothing to understand, they just have no clue what they are doing when it comes to balance.

Balance finally properly their game and with balance properly the Game I mean – do more than just only some number changes on skills and traits.

The problem with balance is that it’s not content. While many players will be happy with the game if it’s well balanced, others will leave because of the lack of content. That’s why a constant re-design of existing mechanics can be a bad thing.

While the re-design of Thaumanova Fractal is great and makes that Fractal so much better, it’s not as good as creating a brand new Fractal.

While re-designing existing traits and skills is great, it’s not the same as adding new skills and traits in the game, even if they cause MORE imbalance or power creep.

And so on. We are already at a point where some players complain that we get less content than we used to, a massive re-balancing effort would make it even slower. Is it worth it?

With the current, limited, resources of the LS teams I don’t think asking them to do such a redesign would be a good idea. Their job is to release content, and they are doing a rather good job at that. My personal solution is to scrap the next expansion completely which can free up manpower and resources for those re-balancing efforts, without affecting the release schedule of LS3. Keep the releases coming at this pace, while also doing a lot of balancing to old content, stabilize the game, then and only then move to something like an expansion.

They need both new content and a serious re-balancing of all skills, mechanics and classes.

For content they need to add difficulty settings (for everything) and variety, because right now the raid formula isn’t working and a majority of players that have lost interest in frustration.

You can’t just abandon dungeon and expect your MMO to be as successful as other MMO that keep adding multiple new dungeons with every new DLC.

For balance, clearly they have the dedicated team, but that team just can’t see how bad their game balance is and how they keep making the gameplay worse with terrible decisions. It’s pretty hopeless I think unless they get a new balance team.

Guild Wars 2 had so much potential at launch to become the best MMO, but they made many mistakes specially by removing content and not refreshing the gameplay. Turning the living story into a single player experience with weeks of group farming afterward to unlock skins isn’t everyone’s cup of tea either. Ignoring the MANY players wanting GvG was a disastrous decision.

Meanwhile other initially-worse MMO have worked hard on game-changing improvements, features, etc and they have taken the lead.

Good thing is the game is F2P and it’s not the only game with this business model either. It’s still a great time for MMOs.

Next expansion – maybe. Until then I think we can either be patient or try our chance with the other MMO pvp, some of which are not as bad as people say, specially considering that one of these MMO was the top game sold on Steam this week and it’s filled with new players.

What they need to do is give proportional PPT and PPK point bonus to the losing servers so that they can catch up during the week.

It should be hard to stay the winning server, you should be required to fight until the very end.

When the scores get closer together the bonus point % decreases.
The score should be as close as possible until the very end so that WvW doesn’t become a snooze fest when the weekend is over.

Also PPK needs to become more dynamic. When a player does something special, like gets 10 kills in a row or a lot of kills in a short amount of time the server and player should reward you with extra points. There is a lot of room for creativity there, specially if you implement a sort of group achievement system with combo fields.

Also WvW needs a guild and player ladder.

WvW ranks should influence your rewards.

Merge all servers, do this above, add a third borderland, bring back the orbs and quaggans on Alpine and you’ll save WvW.

When the beta testers told them that the arena was too small for GvG they realized their mistake and promised a larger one which obviously was never made.

Arena has problems understanding that the community wants. Being able to choose the game balance system for arenas would be great if the game balance was good, but even a celestial class like the elementalist doesn’t have access to a celestial amulet in PvP.

Lots of things to fix on that front.

the ideal scenario is you cannot enter a match when the team you want to join outnumbers the enemy

thats where the population balancing on a match or skirmish kicks in

as ive read somewhere, queue starts when a team outnumbers other team’s number by 1

They copied their megaserver on ESO when it came out (without the complex quest phasing system), but forgot about WvW and ESO’s campaign guesting, which would be similar to what you’re talking about.

Anyone want’s to buy the next half-xpac for 50$? It comes with the core game and the other half-expansion you already paid for. Also what’s announced may not make it in the game, even a year after you paid for it. Wanna try this new Elementalist elite skill that does absolutely nothing? Oh and also the “huge WvW Overhaul” we announced to convince you, that was worked on for over a year, well… it never existed.

Moral of the story: Don’t take your customers for granted. There is only one reason GW2 is losing players: it’s going in the wrong direction.

Players used to come to WvW for good epic fights, nothing else.

It’s because they couldn’t produce content fast enough so they had to slow down everyone down by turning everything into grinding. I saw it all happen, in the space of a few months they turned every system into a grind beginning with the “New player experience” and culminating with the new trait system, mastery system and a LS with maps that are only meant to farm and that contain no instanced dungeons.

It’s also why they rushed HoT out unfinished without any dungeons, 1 single pvp map and stuff like legendary armor still not released 1 year later.

Now you know.

1 DH is fine. The problem is multiple. You shouldn’t be able to stack the same kind of trap for full damage within a very small time frame. It’s too powerful and skill-less. to let traps stack for full damage Most games I know of with powerful aoe skills has diminishing returns when you stack the ability. Its just common sense. Either that or enfore strict matchmaking that only allows one of each kind of build.

It took about 1 month for Overwatch to remove character stacking, it’s been years that we’ve been asking Anet for the same and they just aren’t listening.

No surprised there, there is nothing competitive about GW2 pvp anymore besides cheesing out your build as much as possible. Even if he says the game is fine there are serious issues with the balancing.

Hell you can’t even queue as a team anymore lol. I’ve moved on because I can’t team queue and I’m like 0.1% as serious as these guys are…

With ESO new xpac on the way and small scale pvp coming I think GW2 devs really need to step it up with their class balancing as well as lack of gamemodes and build variety.

Not really. Guild wars 2 PvP might have issues but Guild wars 2 arguably plays better than ESO. New game modes isn’t going to help ESO if the gameplay still blows.

Also when ESO coming out in June there literally no way for Arena net to respond, not that they need to anyways. Anyways, for the past 4 years every single mmo with PvP was suppose destroy guild wars 2 and so far none of them have been able to.

If you think the game still blows you haven’t played it lately. See the top MMO on MMORPG website for 2016. The game is striving and full of players; it has become serious competition and will be even more so with small scale pvp.

Not expecting anything meaningful as usual, but on the bright side the “other” big MMO really got their kitten together.

I used to get 50fps on Mac with some stuff above minimal settings… Now I barely get 18fps on a better Mac at minimal settings and lower resolution.

Switched to a PC, not a great one, just a OK one… Still getting 18fps, except it’s not crashing every 5 minutes. I can’t even play it in 1080p smoothly.

What ever happened to this game performance is beyond my understanding. It’s not a demanding game yet it performs terribly.

And it has nothing to do with performance. They’ve had to make everything ugly for PvP clarity… And it didn’t work, so now everything is unclear and ugly.
