The real problem is the gameplay is broken since the pre-hot changes.

It wasn’t just about server population back then. A well coordinated guild of 15 could take out a pug blob of 40, because skillful play mattered.

Now everyone just spam their kitten and win no matter how terrible they are, simply because they have more players.

It frustrated the best players, and they left with their GvG guilds buddies. What was left were the players who mostly cares about rewards instead of the fights.

Weaver is unplayable.
There are too many delays before being able to access skills 4 and 5 (like burning retreat or static field).

The rotations are clunky to say the least.

Sword doesn’t have enough mobility, cc, range and damage.

The design is so uselessly complicated. Why am I unable to reach my blasts in time? Why do I have 2 fields and no blasts available, or 2 blast, a leap and no field to cast?

I think the elite skills should let you mix elements and by default they shouldn’t be mixed.

The number 3 skills need serious buffs.

Unravel is just bad design: A skill to make the elite spec playable for a few seconds? Ridiculous.

As always the art team did a fine job with the particules, but the Sword animations couldn’t be more ordinary.

I hope it gets improved.

PoF WOW factor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Xillllix.3485

PoF is a content expansion, HoT was a mechanic expansion. This means that HoT introduced new ideas and new ways to expand the game that would be used in future expansions, while PoF uses those new mechanics to give us more content. This means that they are giving us more things that already existed in HoT, instead of brand new. New elite specs, new mastery points, a new GH and so on

Raids and fractals are coming, that’s been confirmed on the forums, but they didn’t announce those because apparently, they are not part of the expansion but part of the living world, which has a separate release schedule.

THIS.

Content expansion, with no dungeons or competitive content whatsoever… I think there is less in PoF, therefore the price tag.

When they reduced the build variety from 5 lines to 3 lines they really destroyed the best potential for gameplay.

I told them then and they said “it’s too soon to tell”, but it was obvious that they instantly broke variety and balance.

Instead of asking for a removal of GCD (which will never happen), we should ask for a 2.5s GCD instead of 4s. Core Ele can rotate through all 4 attunements in 10s. Weaver doesn’t need to be an upgrade, it should just allow Ele to weave all the attunements in 10s.

There shouldn’t be a cooldown on attuning to the same element twice. This is really the biggest problem here.

I need to use burning retreat but I’m in earth/water: I should just have to double tap F1 and then press 4. Not just press F1 and be kittened for 4 seconds.

Would be nice just to have some feedback from Anet, almost everyone thinks Weaver is needlessly complicated and limiting. Putting defensive skills behind a 5 to 8 second cooldown is just stupid.

After two demo weekends what do we think?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

I’m taking a “wait and see” approach, but I have already purchased the PoF ultimate package because ANet has earned my support with what they delivered with HoT.

Having said that, I did not find the demo encouraging. The first piece of the storyline felt uninspired and the first map very flat and uninteresting. By comparison, Verdant Brink was a simply incredible map and the integration with the HoT storyline was perfection. When I first walked into that map and saw the destruction of the pact fleet in open world, then dove into exploring that jungle I really felt what ANet was trying to show me. I didn’t get that feeling with the PoF demo. Not at all.

Mounts seem like a strong addition. I enjoyed the feel of the mount. However, I am concerned that this will be little more than a gimmick. I noticed random obstacles that felt contrived – existing simply to give me a reason to use the raptor’s leap ability. Gliding never felt that way, although some of the other HoT masteries certainly did (Itzel poison mastery!).

As for the elite spec demo, I will have to spend more time with them but I was definitely disappointed with my preferred class (elementalist). The cooldown on attunement swapping combined with the dual attunement aspect of weaver felt slow and clunky, where I was really expecting a much more fluid experience.

HoT seemed like just one of those things that evoked strong emotions. Very few players that I’ve met didn’t have strong opinions on it. I feel like PoF won’t quite be the same in that sense. But we’ll see.

I preordered HoT when it was announced, this time I’m waiting to see if they improve Weaver first.

Weaver has serious issues on some weapon like Staff. They should have realized months ago that it’s unplayable. All the defensive skills are behind a 5 sec cooldown. It’s so clunky, and for what gain? The new skills and complexity are not worth giving the other stuff away.

The solution is pretty easy actually, they need to remove the cooldown when you are attuning skills 4-5 to the same attunement as 1-2, and also buff the #3 skills with more defensive, evasion or damage.

Yes, all that would have been avoided with a test server.

Weaver needs improvements before I make a purchase. No competitive content and I don’t really care that much about PvE so there is little to look forward to for me.

That’s ok I guess, since I just came back from a 1-year break so maybe I’m not the targeted customer.

How they thought Weaver was ok for a video game like this is beyond my understanding.

“Hey let’s give this class an easy way to do 20k burst with 2 buttons… and let’s give this other class a million buttons to press to do 3k damage before having to wait 5 seconds to block.”

Weaver flows like a river of bricks.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

In PvP you could already create a character of other class and crush an elementalist just by button mashing, without knowing how to play that class.

Now with Weaver it’s even worse. The elementalist became complex to a point where it’s completely absurd to even try to learn it, specially since at the end of all that practice you will still be worse than any other class with much more fluid and dynamic gameplay, with skills that aren’t constantly on cooldown.

Weaver was their only chance to convince me to buy this expansion pack, since there is no competitive content in PoF anyway. And honestly, the swords animation and skills are boring, the mobility is mediocre, the defenses are terrible, there is no synergy with other trait lines, the damage is way under tuned and on top of that it’s freaking unplayable.

It’s full of illogical complexities, you sometimes get 2-3 fields with no blasts finishers, sometimes 2 blasts and no fields, everything is completly kittened up.

*They need to change the core mechanic of how this work, as someone suggested: Using weapon swap to swap the attuments of skills 1-2 and skills 4-5 would be the best place to start. But please remove the cool downs and we shouldn’t need a skill to “undo weaver” it should be playable as it is.

Also: If you are in Fire/water, there should be no cooldown to attune to Fire/Fire, and in all similar cases, remove the cooldown on single attunements and let us double-tap.*

The term “unplayable” is starting to coming back in various thread and I agree. It’s not just overcomplicated, it’s overcomplicated for no benefit. Even the new skills do not feel important.

I mean seriously, try to get burning retreat to function as a dodge when you are attuned to water/earth. By the time it’s ready you’ll have been dead twice already.

Sadly the best thing about it are the new icons for skills.

Thats actually not true.If you use earthen elemental barrier plus the earth elemental attack and double dodge you get up to 8k barrier.

Right, the mighty 8k barrier that disappears after 3 seconds, leaving you with no defensive option left since you blew everything trying to create that barrier.

I find it unplayable, just blasting fields with staff is a pain.

How is this supposed to be fun? “oh yeah I’m gonna need to evade with burning retreat in 5 seconds” Like who plays like that?
Why would you need a skill that completely undo the elite profession? Even Fresh Air, everything is so slow and confusing it makes my brain hurts.

I mean switch to water to have meteor shower available? Why?

It’s not ready.

Like others have said, good ideas are not always good in practice.

Perhaps if we could choose which offhand and mainland skills we want, for example switching to fire would always give us skill 4-5 while switching to air gives you skills 1-2.

A F5 mechanic to dual attune perhaps? Or a way that only the middle skill change depending on your previous attunement.

Reflecting upon this,

It could be considered insulting to the competitive community that the new expansion contains no WvW or PvP content at all, and that the only new WvW feature announced for WvW is something taken out of the previous expansion…

I mean, whatever Anet want’s it’s their business, but it’s not going to convince me, someone who was part of the exiled GvG community, to come back to a game and buy an expansion just to get the elite spec of my main class.

You need to do WAY more still. Starting with a serious player and guild ranking system and complete merging of all maps and servers.

I’m not agains’t the idea, it’s gimmicky but could be interesting specially on DBL.

Not worth buying the expansion for WvW however… It still feels like the bare minimum is being done for that game mode. A real guild ladder system with the possibility to have organized GvG fights (with rewards and scoring contribution) would seem more interesting.

The supposed WvW overhaul ended up being nothing that impacted gameplay in a positive way.

The good thing is that this expansion is 20$ bucks cheaper than HoT. At least the price seems fair this time around. But unless Weaver is just amazing (and good skills that can work with a staff) I don’t see myself buying this just for competitive modes.

Anet constantly killing this class is the reason I left the game (and all my elementalist friends) about a year ago. I think playing a bit of all game modes should be necessary in order to have a legendary item in the first place anyway, but that most of it should be a choice the player makes.

Meanwhile the Mac client stopped working at a playable framerate, besides all the other problems like the constant crashes that makes most boss encounters, large map events and WvW unplayable.

So, don’t get me wrong, I think the new skins look amazing: Congratulation.
Just wished I could have seen it in the game, you know, since I paid for it and contributed to your company buy buying more than a reasonable amount of gems for WvW transfers and skins.

The content in HoT is fine, it just needed way more of it.

- Elite professions, new skills and trait: not enough variety and effects, not enough new fields and combo effects, terrible balance
- Stronghold: Where are the maps? Why was it sold as GvG?
- PvE: Needs 3-4 times more explorable maps, needs indoor explorable areas, more bosses, a longer quest
- Dungeons: Where are they? Old dungeons needed harder difficulty settings, perhaps new rewards.
- Collections, wardrobe, ingredients, new armors/weaps and rewards? Not enough new items.
- WvW: Everything needed a lot more work there.
- Guild Halls: Where are the larger arenas for GvG that were promised? Needed more work in the implementation.
- Raids: No sense of difficulty scaling, just boss fights with timers. Where are the difficulty settings? Everyone should be able to participate and win proportional amount in rewards.
- Legendary weapons and armors: Released before 2020?

For me it just seems completely rushed out, but it’s just my opinion. For half the price it would have been ok by my expectations. I hope the next xpac has much more than HoT in terms of content.

The old trait system balanced itself much better because the stats were attached to the trait lines.

You couldn’t for example put all your stats in healing and then use offensive trait lines. If you used all the traits from an offensive trait lines then you needed to take 300 away from 2 different defensive stats.

Innumerable games have tried to make hyrib builds work, to little success. There’s no way around the fixed build puzzle because they have to scale difficulty in some standard way. The real problem with the HoT trait changes is ranged dps is suddenly ranger-non-viable?! The elites kittened some classes HARD! I’m not even playing right now, just checking in periodically to see if their next expansion (the one that has taken as long for them to even announce as some WoW expansions and is still promising to be a “smaller but faster” business model) will make the game interesting again. And hate to say it, but I’m not optimistic. It only makes sense to go “smaller but faster” if you’re burning cash and running out of money. The writing for GW2 may be on the wall.

I’m not playing either because it became a frustrating experience, having a blast playing other games while waiting to see what will be announced for GW2. I was really surprised lately to learn that GW2 still doesn’t have legendary armors… That’s something I paid for way back when I preordered HoT.

I think that if the Raids were accessible to casual by having different difficulty levels with scaled rewards or drop rates then it could have really helped with the reception of HoT.

Having to search 2 hours to find a team for a raid and have people rage as they get wiped over and over made me hate the entire concept of raiding.

Again it’s a question of implementation. Having only 5% of your players playing your new content is NOT good.

There is all the other problems with raids too, like the fact that raids have no exploration or special armor sets (see GW1 hardcore content); it’s just a series of boss fights and you’re personal skill as a player doesn’t matter a it’s just a dps race.

Then there is PvP. The only made 1 map and gave up on their game mode. I expected at least 4 Stronghold maps with HoT. It was even advertised as GvG when they announced it.

WvW… where to start?
