Hey, but you got this new, old map that people hate. Who needs scoring changes…

They actually improved it a lot. It’s pretty much just as fast now to get to the keeps as the other borderland map.

They could still remove some stuff in the way but the map is pretty enjoyable now.
The only thing that needs looking at is the whole central area that serves no purpose at all. It should be a waypoint to capture in the middle of the map.

Personally I would love EotM added to the mix as a second central map. It would bring all the EotM population back into WvW.

Since we would have complete variety now when the next map is released everyone could just play what they like but contribute to the same server score.

The guardian didn’t even lose HP, while pressing like 5x fewer keys. Why can’t the balance team just look at that and realize how messed up their balance is? Fighting Svanir is PvE, so now you can balance that too! Please.

I gave up hope for the day Ele can fight Svanir with the same effort other classes spent on him.

lol It’s a joke now. I was playing with another ele in pvp and we basically agreed that the only thing the class is good for now is healing npcs in Stronghold. Even when killing guards or archers it takes 2x-3x more times for am elementalist than any other class. What a fail.

I stopped playing elementalist season 2 when they forced the class to play bunker heal-bot. From that point on build variety ceased to exist and it made me leave the game for 6 months. Been trying it a bit more again lately since I came back without success.

Now even with maxed-out condi cleanse a Reaper, Berserker or Condi mesmer can melt me without any effort. Specially considering I have 6k experience on elementalist and I have more success in pvp on classes I have barely played. I may leave the game soon again, and I will never buy any more gems because of the lousy balance.

The elementalist is celestial by nature so they’ll probably bring the celestial amulet back instead of working on improvements, which is more demanding. One thing is certain: they can’t balance skills properly at all and the ele lead doesn’t know how the class functions.

We also looked to normalize elementalist damage and healing a bit more, as their overall potential to do both at the same time was considerably higher than was healthy for group compositions.

And that must be why now we have druid with bristleback and smokescale, then dragonhunter with symbols/trappers

They have more personal sustain than pre-nerf ele and this give them the chance to focus more on support, on top of this they have more dmg..way more dmg than old cleric ele.

Despite all the bullcrap the esl tools say with their lists, the elementalist on general spend 70% of the time running around trying to kite for its life..the remaining 30% of the time he will try to “heal” his allies with melee range aoe heal and share boons that do absolutely nothing against the condi meta

On the other hand we have profession that can both melee and range at the same time, this goes both for offense and defense…and still have better self-survivability

I mean..you devs, say that tempest damage and healing was too much..then leave druids and dragonhunters behind after the patch….

What they’ve done to the elementalist class in unforgivable, but it was foreseeable if you think about the other ridiculous balance changes the class has suffered from in the past 2 years. Every time they nerfed a skill or trait it was only for 1 specific situation and they ended up ruining 10 other situations where that same skill wasn’t OP at all.

We told them during the dev of Tempest that we didn’t want to be heal bots, but the ele balance lead doesn’t listen to the elementalist community.

A PvEer's Perspective on WvW

I used to be a hardcore WvWer but then the GvG scene imploded (because of Anet) all my friends in fight guilds scattered on different servers. We played for the community and the challenge, not the rewards. WvW is an endgame, you go there really when you realize that PvE is too easy for your skill level (and I’m not talking about artificial difficulty like raid timers, but about your ability to dodge and make good combo chains in team fights).

It’s going to be hard to have fun in WvW unless 1- Anet merge the servers together so that I can play with my friends again, 2- the PPT system is changed into a scoring system that is much more dynamic and 3- They nerf condi and bring back the old stability.

If they do that then a new era of WvW will start and I have no doubt that even the GvG scene will come back.

It’s kinda ironic, that on a light class like the elementalist you have to be quasi a virtuoso just to manage to land a Firegrab on a burning opponent that will do, if you’re lucky, 4k damage…. And that on a heavy class with more blocks, aegis you can just faceroll traps with no cast time that will 1-shot people down for 15k+.

Even the traps have a bigger area of effect and range than Firegrab. That must be what skill balance is all about for a good balance team: Ignoring the difficulty required for some classes to land their skills or how super easy it is others classes and just changing numbers randomly.

Guardians traps and a few bow skills should be nerfed slightly but the real problem is just how easy the class is to play, I would say something like 10% on damage or 20% cooldown increase. I do play guard sometimes just because of how easy it is to win a fight with the class.

The real problem of the pvp gameplay however is condition damage.
Even with maximum condi cleanse I still get melted as I try to have a skilled fight. Without using a pure anti-condi build it’s just completely impossible to play elementalist and stay alive. Also getting interrupted while having 8 stacks of stability just makes no sense. Not sure if its a bug or some unblockable engi cc. It’s just broken.

Condi application is unfairly scaled in contrast to condi removal.

Was the Desert Borlerland updated with a faster ways to get around (more waypoints)?

Also, perhaps one day you could add EotM to the mix as an optional map, instead of dividing the community. I know I would like to play EotM and have the score have an impact on the wvw score.

Season 4 Ranked Matchmaking Change

Yesterday I had a match:

Our team: 3 Necros, 1 thief, 1 ele (I gave one last chance to that forsaken class)
Other team: 3 Guards, 1 thief, 1 ranger

Everyone was solo queued and everyone was low level.

Why would the game stack the classes on both sides?
Why didn’t it send the highest rated Necro to a team and the highest rated Guard to the other?

Things That Need Nerfing

Elementalist:
- Ride the Lightning: Range should be reduced to 100 and it should damage the caster when used
- Mist form should apply 18 stacks of poison to yourself
- Ice spike should take 7 seconds before falling down, that way you would have the time to think on how prepare your combo
- Scepter, needs a nerf to Shatterstone and Flamestrike: Range should be reduced to 180.
- Attunements should be affected by Chill… wait…

Guardian:
- Buff the traps damage by 33%s: When someone step on a trap they should instantly die. What’s the point otherwise?
- Needs 1 more blocking ability
- Cooldown on elite trap should be reduced to 18 seconds

Warriors:
Needs more HP: Doesn’t have nearly twice the HP of an elementalist

Mesmer:
- Should have 2 more clones, sometimes you can spot the mesmer
- You should be able to Moa for 25 seconds, some mesmers need more time to 100-0 another player

Rangers:
- Increase range on pewpew to 2000
- Pets should have a 50% buff
- Healing increase to make sure nobody uses the elementalist for healing

Thief:
- Uncertain

Necro:
- Increase chill effect to 100% speed reduction instead of 66%

Rev:
- CoR damage should be doubled. No half measures, it should instantly kill anyone no matter their armor.

Engi:
- needs more button to press

But basically they introduced the broken season 1 matchmaking again instead of fixing it. I would call that pretty lazy solution for broken matchmaking.

Personally I don’t really care against who I am playing. I only care about these things:

1- Build variety (worse than ever, was better with the old trait system)
2- Class balance (was at its best at the end of 2014, now at its worse)
3- Synergy of Skills with traits between classes: For example the elementalist is just not fun anymore to play in comparison to how it was before
4- Reduction of the power creep introduced by the implementation of the new trait system
5- Reduction in available blocks on heavy class and CCs overall
6- Condi cap and old Stability should be brought back (was a bad decision to change them)
7- Removal of class stacking (been waiting for years)

I just love the original post and the system we have now. Clearly something went wrong when the game reverted to a broken state! I guess some ppl quit and now there is no need to improve the system anymore since there is not enough qq.

When in doubt about your pvp game mode… When you find yourself in dark places, when all lights go out and all hopes begin to fade… When you just don’t know what to do, then…

… Just bring back SAB.

I’m saying this a joke of course. There is so much potential with the game, if only build variety and balanced gameplay could be back on the menu along with the WvW overhaul then it would be amazing. And with a GvG mode it would be outstanding.

there’s really no point in asking anet quetions in this thread. MO dropped the news, didn’t like the responses he got and after that not a single anet representative has written in the thread. Why? I don’t know since I don’t work for anet (thank the Eternal Alchemy for that) but their lack of interest has convinced me that it’s exactly that reason, lack of interest. They simply do not care.

It’s just sad for them at this point. They lost players and they can never sell any legendaries again in another expansion because they lied about them with the first expansion.

I think we will have to wait for a change of balance team lead dev.
It’s inevitable at this point, the class balance is so terrible and unfair, whatever they are doing it’s not working. It’s clearly a failure when you see 5-6 DH per match in pvp and do not see a single elementalist in over 10 matches.

Look at what happened to WvW, they changed the team, and then we had polls and a more responsive lead dev that seems to listen and engage with the community. We do have to wait and see if they deliver.

Hopefully the same thing will happen with the balance team and it will be replaced by a team that is more aware of the urgent issues with build variety and class balance.

Season 3 too easy (spoilers)

It was too unfocused for me. I think they need to add a group dungeon to each of their living story episodes or something else than just a new map to farm and never-ending dialogues, it’s not like we don’t have enough of that.

That’s something I miss about the old Fire & Frost era of Living Story. And now that Arah story scales to party size, that’s a concept that can extend to new dungeon development.
It might not need a full set of explorable paths, but a story run and 5-man run would add some extra content. Granted, Fractals are the 5-man content now so.. probably not going to see LS-related dungeons that aren’t raids anymore.

that was exactly their problem with LS1, the minidungeons where a hella lotta work to make, driving some devs insane, and it didnt help that half of those minidungeons where later thrown in the bin. The only path thats still intact is the Toxic Arbor, which is now a path in the sylvari dungeon

This is one things ESO is doing right. Each new world map has a unique new dungeon added and a new armor to craft. GW pretty much took the idea of having a new armor for every new map but ever since they got rid of the dungeon team they neglected that part.

The linking system is a limited concept, it fixes population but it doesn’t address the problem of the community being separated by abstract server walls.

Ele, in PvP, is now worse than ever. In this season, thiefs and eles are usually asked to reroll for something more useful, and who can blame those people who ask for it ? Ele IS out of this PvP season. Just ask yourself, how many eles have you seen in sPvP or WvW Roaming?its almost been a month, people who said “go experiment and you’ll find a meta build” are long gone. In this state, it is sure that the ele’s will get buffed sooner or later.

There will be buffs, thats for sure. Since ele still performs good enough with staff at raids, and no one in their right mind would bring a staff to PvP(unless wvw zerg), we can assume that staff will be untouched.

Offhand dagger is pretty outdated, with cooldowns that are 30-40 seconds. Water 4 skill and earth 5 may change, with long cooldown reduces on the rest of the skills.

Scepter is sort of fine at the moment, we might expect another shatterstone or flamestrike buff. Oneshotting people with those never gets old.

Focus is perfectly fine in my opinion, but we might get a tiny cooldown reduction on some skills.

For PvE, we might get a small warhorn buff. D/W has inferior damage compared to Staff and its melee so its more risky to use D/W, so it would make sense.

Traitwise, i can’t come up with an idea. But they might add fresh air kind of trait to all elements. Something like “blind/immobilize a target to reduce earth cooldown to zero, chill/condiclear to water, burn to fire” sort of traits. If offhand dagger gets buffed however, we all know which traits would be buffed.

Well I would play elementalist instead of Dragon Hunter if the class wasn’t just a pale shadow of what it once was back in 2013. DH is just so easy to learn and so strong the the amount of skill required that it’s the perfect class to switch when your class becomes useless.

As for what changes would most improve leagues, you’ll have to wait for more info on that.

We’re 4 seasons in and we still get stuck 4 DH vs 4 druids instead of placing 2 of each on each teams. I mean these things are really basic it shouldn’t take 1 year to fix. Anet said in season 1 that class stacking was something you are looking into. I mean we are having games now where there are 5 dragon hunters on a single team, and none on the other, and everyone was solo queue.

There is? I always have to mouseover people until I find myself.

There is one. It’s just about impossible to see but it’s there.
It’s like the new auras effect, they are impossible to see if there is something else going on your screen.

As a new player (started 3 weeks ago) who picked Elementalist as my first class and will hit level 80 with tonight… I find this thread rather depressing. :-/

If you go full zerk and use all the damage modifiers traits (Air/Water/Arcane or Tempest) you can have some fun still in WvW nuking zergs. It’s just really hard to stay alive in the current meta.

I just made a post about this. 3 rangers on one team, 4 dh on the other. completely slaughtered by the dh team because of the insane dps and projectile hate.

Did the same. 5 DH’s on one team, 1 DH and 3 druids on the other. I was on Team Trap, and we slaughtered the opponents.

Even though I’m benefiting from it greatly I freely admit it’s broken as hell.

I think we’ve just found exactly where the MMR machine is broken.
Anybody from Anet PvP team reading this?

What I proposed during Tempest development:

Change a Grandmaster Trait and add that when wielding a warhorn the scepter range is increased to 1200 or 1300. It would at least make the weapon usable in WvW.

It’s going to be problematic unless they start distributing players of different classes across teams instead of stacking all of them together in one team. We just need someone in the PvP team that understands that MMR doesn’t mean kitten when you’re facing 5 guardians.

It’s impressive to think the PvP and Balance teams would render a class totally useless to the point where almost everyone stop playing it and not even express some kind of apology.

It’s not like the elementalist community hasn’t communicated, we’ve all been really helpful and active on the forum with suggestions. It’s just that on the other side the person supposed to listen isn’t listening.

The matchmaking doesn’t take classes into account either, so you have a chance of ending with a very bad comp.

I was just in a game where there were 3 DH on one team and 3 Rev on the other team,
Why isn’t the game mixing up the classes and placing guards and revs on both teams?

Just makes no sense to promote class stacking and then say on the forum it’s something you want to improve on 4 seasons in.

To make PvP great they need to up their game.

1- 10v10 GvG with complete guild ranking and stats system. Not PvE mechanics that promote tanky builds, something like 2 TDM larger maps and 3 other maps with some objectives requiring more strategy.

2- Interface to save your build templates

3- Limit of 2 of a class per team

I hope you’re talking about Scepter or something because both D/D and Staff are easy as hell to rotate optimally and reactively with.

Engi is a lot harder because there’s a kittenload more of stuff you have to aim and lead.

Maybe we don’t have the same definition of optimally…

There’s not a lot too it though. When I say optimally I just mean rotating the skills to maximize might blasting, damage output and cooldown management.

There is a lot to it, and no optimally I don’t mean the basics. What you mention are the things new players need to learn, they have nothing to do with knowing how to chain the skills perfectly according to the context. I swear I have seen only a dozen eles in my play time actually master the art of the class, and I’m talking all weapons, not just d/d.

People landing 5-6 skills simultaneously with staff, it’s just not for everyone and specially not a low-skill level.

Anet put a lot of money (salary wise) into making stronghold for us, and we didn’t like it. (I mean, it aight.) Are they going to try new fun things now that the community showed they don’t like it?

Also both new WvW maps (EotM and borderland) show the community doesn’t like the new things anet does, although in that case it’s because anet blatantly ignored what the WvW community wanted. So…

Well they really never released Stronghold as a “game mode” it basically is just a map.
If you want to release a new game mode then at least make 4-5 maps to go with it and then we could have an idea of how it plays.

It’s just another rubbish, bland class now.

MMO developers seem to have this thing where they actually don’t know how to balance caster-damage types without turning them into the most boring, pointless affairs in the game. Say what you want about the other classes not outputting as much damage as Ele, but they’re WAY more fun to play.

ANet’s balance team need to take their heads of their collective kitten and realise that there’s more to it than just making the numbers flat and bland for everyone. Classes need to have a personality, some flare. Ele just doesn’t have it anymore.

So yeah, going to level my thief and guard on the side but as of today… I’m done trying to like a class as poorly designed and cared for as the ele. ANet can shove it, as far as I’m concerned.

They celebrated nerfing Ice Bow by 50% as if they achieved something. It shows you just how lost they are, they have absolutely no clue about how their own game should work.

It’s not because Anet created Tempest with some bunker traits that elementalists had no choice to equip that it suddenly became the easiest class to play. It may have been easy to bunker up, but it’s because everything else was so kittening hard to play and make viable that we all gave up.

Elementalists always have had the hardest combo to pull off with engineer. They have a harder rotation however, because it’s on constant cooldown. Also their skills have a huge amount of lag they have to compensate for constantly.

I played elementalist 5k hours, I’ve trained elementalists for GvGs, I’ll tell you this: You can’t do a perfect rotation of skills with that class without over 2k hours experience. I don’t think that would qualify as an easy class to play. While at the opposite, on my first match as both a warrior and DH I won a 1v2.

So placing the elementalists at the bottom of the list just makes your list completely biased.

Season Four Ruined by Dragon Hunters

DH are the easiest/most rewarding class to play, therefore it’s the perfect class to switch to when your class becomes unfairly underpowered like the elementalist.

However they aren’t the most OP class, in the hands of really skilled players the Scraper and Berserker are just unkillable, kinda like the virtuoso celestial elementalists we used to have around before Anet destroyed the class, but they hit way harder.

Druids are also annoyingly OP in the hands of skilled players, it’s mostly due to the buffs they’ve had all over the pace.

Condis needs to be tuned down globally (it wasn’t broken until Anet broke it). It’s going to fix a lot of broken OP builds like condi-mesmer.

So, strongest class when mastered in my opinion:
Berserk > Scraper > Druid > Mes > DH > Rest of classes > Elementalist

Classes requiring the least amount of skill to win:
DH > Druid > Bersek > Rev > Rest of classes

Even if they fix all of this, it’s not going to fix the elementalist problem of not having an amulet that works with the attunements trait lines and doing equal damage with less hp and defenses.

I’m glad I left PVP behind with GW1. Sounds just as frustrating as back in the day. The sooner Anet separates balance for all game modes, the better.

The balance will not solve anything, GW2 have dodge and active defense mechanics. In every single game bad players cry on forum becose any one single patches dont increase their personal skill =)

It was too unfocused for me. I think they need to add a group dungeon to each of their living story episodes or something else than just a new map to farm and never-ending dialogues, it’s not like we don’t have enough of that.

They removed the cap on conditions and then buffed them crazy. It’s like a mad-scientist experiment gone wrong and we are the test subjects.

Just accept that you are meant to be a support bot until the next expansion comes. Players in this subforum predicted this outcome from the moment that Tempest was revealed as the ele elite spec.

That hit me in the ele feels, I just hope the next Xpac they will atleast let us playtest to have feedback from dedicated ele players.

They did with HoT they just didn’t act on the feedback. Let’s be honest here: Tempest was a cheap offering. The initial HoT elite skill didn’t even work and they just stacked some auras on a new one that also didn’t work without even tweaking the visual effect. It was just a place holder effect for a skill they didn’t have time to design.

It feels unfinished all the way through.

I’m surprised this thread hasn’t been locked yet a moderator doesn’t like it when people post match ups even if all it shows are the classes. Or it’s only the ones hat shows the over balance of DHs being played.

I think their budget for the current game must be running thin considering the last balance patch. They probably have everyone rushing on the expansion.
