WvW borderland rotation poll

in WvW

Edge of the Mist is actually the best designed WvW map.

It just needs keeps you can upgrade and a tower to conquer in the middle lower area to conquer that has a waypoint.

They need to bring all the EotM population to WvW.
The WvW map should have:
3 different borderland maps, EotM, EBG and a smaller GvG battleground.

Doing GvGs, raiding with my GvG guilds and finding other GvG guilds on the WvW battlefield is the best fun I’ve had with this game. I will always remember the Anet guy telling us we couldn’t GvG at the Windmill. As if capturing empty objectives for a useless PPT system is more interesting than skilled fights between groups of friends.

It’s a complete missed opportunity that Anet never supported GvG guilds, the reason I’ve moved on and will just probably never come back

Even if the WvW overhaul they’ve been working on for “over a year” end up not being just a few tiny changes I don’t see the GvG community rebuilding itself to play on the same Alpine BL map that isn’t even as interesting as before the orbs were removed.

Legendary only means it takes a legendary long time to develop. Not that it has some shinny particle effect.

I mean taking over 6 months to develop an armor skin defies any logic of how running a game development company should work.

People are developing items for modded games in their basements with the same level of quality and way faster. Something is just completely wrong with guild wars 2 legendary development team.

Whens the next WvW tournament?

in WvW

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

Our primary motivation for avoiding running another tournament, is that at the end of every tournament we saw a permanent dip in the number of players playing WvW. Presumably this was due to players burning themselves out during the tournament.

However, we can still run a poll to see if the majority of the community wants another 4 week tournament, even if it might be bad for the long term WvW population numbers. Though even if ‘running another tournament’ won the poll, we’d probably hold off until we get the scoring updates in.

Imagine getting burned out and then not receiving the reward because of some bug or that you forgot to talk to a npc and didn,t know after a week your reward was erased.

That said, the problem wasn’t the tournament, it was WvW and how pointless PPT has been as a scoring mechanic. With the scoring mechanic update everything you accomplish should feel as if it has an impact on the score. Then tournament or no tournament you will have players, providing that there is some map variety integrated instead of 3 copies of the same map.

How long will Alpines last?

For instance, nothing is really stopping us from having a combination of ABL and DBL maps running simultaneously.

… Really? Like you’ve had 3 copies of the same map for years while in fact you could have had 3-4 different maps if EotM was also implemented properly?

I would say what stopping you here is really a lack of vision or imagination. I mean if you couldn’t even update the background map image for the desert BL how can you make a background map image that supports more than 2 maps?

I I was managing this game you would have 4 different maps that spawn campaign overflows according to the monthly worlds population instead of 3 copies of the same map with a separated population, a EotM map that serves no scoring function and a server merge that is really only a short-term band-aid.

“The performance of HoT was not as expected. We learnt the lesson. A second expansion is in work and will be released as soon as possible.”

Not releasing “as soon as possible” is the lesson they should have learned.

If they really want money they need to rethink PvP with GvG in mind.

Basically right now they’re almost just milking it from the gem store, this is just sad.

Wow…seems like large-scale fights these days don’t last that long…usually over in under a minute. What changed? (I’ve only been around since just before HoT)

It’s the “new” trait system that completely destroyed the game balance by removing diversity and making it possible to stack more multipliers. Also terrible design on elite professions.

Wow you guys are on the right track! Time slices Skirmish is something I proposed about 2 years ago, with the difference that I had 1 hour slices and daily scores.

I’m glad you guys are looking into making the WvW game interested for shorter time-span. Also the come-back mechanic, I proposed PPK multipliers for losing servers.

I may really reinstall the game now, it’s starting to look good.

HoT undelivered for the price tag. It’s as simple as that.

It’s not the fault of the devs but of the management: if HoT had been delivered with the living Story chapter 2 (with Silverwaste and Dry Top), a good WvW system and better elite professions it would have been a much more complete expansion.

I have a feeling we only got half an expansion because the other half had been released for free before in order to keep people interested and then they rushed out the rest to meet the fall deadline.

I mean the Tempest didn’t have a working elite skill like 1 month from the release date and they just improvised some crappy utility. There was just no solid idea or concept behind it. Blizzard would never have let kitten like that out.

Elementalist needs to change.

I’m curious as to why it’s so complicated to make a new collection for a precursor. It seems to only require basic functionalities that should be available in a content editor.

- Create a new item.
- Modify an item.
- Add an item to a merchant.
- Add a conditionally available item to a merchant.
- Create a new recipe.
- Create a new recipe item.
- Create a container item.
- Add an item to a container.
- Add an ‘OnUse’ function on an item to activate a collection.
- Add a conditional item reward for a successful event (collection activated and concerned achievement still not completed).
- Add a conditional item drop from a monster.
- Add a conditional item drop from a chest.
- Add a conditional item drop from a gathering node.
- Add a conditional dialogue to an NPC.
- Add a conditional interactive item/space to a zone.
- Create a new achievement linked to an object.
- Create a new collection object.

Considering the collections were introduced with the “September 2014 Feature Pack”, that they did some rework for Hot and that they knew they would make quite a few collections, one could have expected them to develop the tools to do it efficiently. They had what, 2 years to do it?

My views on this is that their developer tools must be really terrible. I can imagine that instead of having sophisticated world builder applications Anet has to C++ every single item and quest they add to the game. That would at least explain why it takes them years just to add a few items to the game.

If you start on the wrong code foundations it can be really difficult to add content.
Look at how much content a small team can create when provided with proper tools, for example with Bethesda world builder utilities they provide with their singleplayer games players that know nothing about coding have been able to create entire side-games or expansions. Do you really think it would take years to add a few legendary items and quests with a tool that sophisticated?

Having to remove content a development team spent years working on just because you can’t imagine a system that support 4 different maps… This seems like a abdication to me.

I’m certainly not going to reinstall the game now that the only new WvW content has been removed. I was expecting fixes and improvements, not a rollback to 3 years ago.

[Suggestion] 4 Maps - No Rotation

in WvW

Posted by: Xillllix.3485

Xillllix.3485

This is what I’ve been asking for years. If Anet just did what some of us proposed WvW would be in such a better state.

Edge of the mist is fine for PPT, the design is nice, it’s actually a great EBG alternative and more clever than the Desert BL. If you don’t like it then you would still have the opportunity to play on the other maps. Bringing it into the PPT rotation would bridge together 2 communities. Rewards should stay the same.

Desert Bl need some adjustments but it is still a nice map, it needs more way more waypoints and some flattening in some areas.

Alpine BL needs a graphical update and the return of the orb (but improved with different mechanics). The Orb should be captured and held in a structure in the middle of the Ruins.

EBG is a classic, needs a graphical update as well. StoneMist’s textures are still not aligned properly.

Alpine BLs are making a comeback. I consider that a win!

I consider this a massive fail and give in to the whiners of this community.

This is no step forward, this is like a huge degeneration of this game, going back to old crap because this community is so degenerated to give the devs not at least a chance to overwork the new desert maps – no instead they hue and cry mordio as typically usual like theres no tomorrow.

Don’t blame the community. The community has given WvW all it could and has been more than patient, remember the CDI threads? You can’t blame the community for the mess Anet made by not listening to them.

It’s Anet that messed up stability, the trait system and class balance, all of which turned out to reward mindless zombie zerging. It was Anet that never listened to the GvG community at all, that never implemented a scoring system and reward system that could make the game interesting, and that never merged empty servers.

They are removing desert borderland because (1) they are in panic mode because mostly everyone left beside tier 1-2 and (2) it’s cheaper to bring back old stuff than redesign new content.

Free to Play games will always attract new players that will buy gems. Since the Chinese release new players is really all they’ve been after.
For the veterans that have been here since the release it has just been getting worse. Making them buy the original game twice when HoT was released was just insulting. They ended up buying the game for the new Free to Play players and getting less than what they paid for in return.

What this game needed was a strong GvG implementation and Guild oriented PvE content. By focusing the LS and WvW on single-player/zerg content they destroyed so much of the potential the game had on release.

Its beena while and still no word whatsoever.. I guess they will get away with it. See ya at xpac #2 with another 3 legendary weapons /shrug

Well the issue here is why is Anet failing so hard at making content they announced. Are they really so incompetent as far as planning the development of content?

1- They announced the legendarires in 2013…
2- Then they had an expansion announced which was advertised as including that content that was delayed already so much, so we were like: ok since it’s so hard for you to make content we’ll pay for it.
3- Then 6 months after the expansion is out they’re like "it’s too hard we give up, here is all we have, 4 skins.

Like seriously, shame on you Anet, how can you fail that bad at planning content with a team of paid employees? The production output of development team must be verified regularly in order to correct the projected timeline and have a realistic deadline for bulk content release. It’s either (1) a management disaster so epic it is so far unseen in video game companies, or (2) they lied from the beginning just to sell an expansion and had nobody working on them (they just recycled old skins like Nevermore which was made years ago).

I tend to believe the later, I can’t believe you can fail that much.

They can’t release them with expansion 2 now, it would be like charging twice for the same product and that is illegal.

Why are people so afraid of raiding?

Raids could have kept me playing Guild Wars 2 if they were done properly…

The issue with them isn’t the difficulty, it’s that they aren’t that fascinating or interesting in the first place.

The initial feeling when starting the raids should be “WoW that’s fun and amazing”.
Then you should get involved from a gameplay perspective, be presented with the new mechanics with explorable content between boss encounters that start easily and gets increasingly difficult as the story develops its dramatic arc simultaneously.

Each wings should be based on that basic principle and never should the experience turn into a frustrating one where you get wiped 25 times in a row or look for a party for 2 hours. You should only get rewards penalties, not be stuck face to face with a wall.

HoT raids are the complete opposite.

I was taking part in that epic GvG, what an historical moment that was (the Anet dude showing up not the GvG).

October 2015:
Heart of Thorns launched.
Poor design of guild-arenas results in many GvG guilds giving up.

OR … you’re just not giving a team of experienced, educated people who have significant interest in making GW2 successful the benefit of the doubt that they just MIGHT have a clue what they are doing!

I have a clue of what they’re doing. They are walking away with my money in their pockets, without delivering fully on what that money was supposed to give me. Their motivations for that are completely irrelevant for me.
Especially if at the same time they are working on the next thing they think they will be able to sell to me without actually delivering it.

Yes, that’s how Anet works … they lie to you to get your money! They have no honest way to make revenue, so they hatched this scheme to release and expansion, dupe you into paying $50 for it and not fully deliver one of it’s features. So clever. They are rubbing their hands in greed all the way to the bank on this one!

That’s why I’ve decided never to give them another dollar and got a PS4. I didn’t feel HoT was a fair offer for the price as it seems unfinished and half done.

I figured if your into PvE anyway you might as well get ESO or FF14 which are both outstanding PvE MMO games with contrasting styles and some pvp you may even enjoy. If you’re just into competitive PvP then you can get some addicting chaotic multiplayer games like GTA5, Rocket League, Battlefield, etc. which can help spend time until the next great pvp MMO gets released.

Wished Anet didn’t mess up WvW so bad and made me farm 3k gold for legendaries that wont ever get released that are part of a collection that made my gold and previous gifts pretty much useless.

I also regret having spent about 200$ just to transfer servers in the past years to follow a dying game mode and seeing none of that money being spent in improving that game mode.

I think their most competent devs and artists came up with the SAB design and it was unexpected from Anet that it would be of such a high success and of such original quality.
Basically they see SAB as a competition to their own game, as something that will take players away from their open world, raids, dungeons, etc.

It was a huge mistake on their part not to make it a more important part of Guild Wars 2, since it’s probably the best thing that happened to Guild Wars 2 in it’s 4 years life-cycle. They could have made it work if they had more vision, just like WvW could have been 5 times more engaging than it was if they actually cared.

For me it’s over, I uninstalled the game last week even with the return of SAB. The cancellation of SAB future worlds, WvW complete disaster, removal of long terms rewards and the fact my friends have left already was enough to make me move on.

If you’re still compelled to post here, you haven’t moved on.

Well, now that I uninstalled it I will move on gradually. The thing is you can’t just make a sharp turn with a game you’ve invested over 3000 hours in. I will always be nostalgic about the first 2 years I played this game, specially the full WvW chaos, the rise of the GvG scene and these few epic PvE moments like the release of SAB.

You can’t just turn the page completely without coming here once in a while and see what’s happening. This forum has been entertaining. And since a lot has happened in the last weeks that confirmed my decision to leave I had to poke around.

By saying they are stopping work on legendaries because they require such a “huge” quantity of work they are basically admitting that they are removing a “huge” part of HoT.

This game is just not going to survive without long-term goals for the veteran players. The living story was generally bad except when it was tied with new map releases like Silverwaste and Dry Top, or had crazy events like the Marionette fight (but the game doesn’t have the population to support this anymore).

They should start by showing respect and refunding 10$ of the sale price of HoT to everyone. Then maybe people will feel somehow compensated for the removal of content they paid for.

Errr, no. Cancel a team that was working on the type of the content that would be permanently placed in game, to work on a festive event…
That would be even more stupid than not taking casualities from the next expac dev team.

I was sarcastic. If they are willing to sacrifice core long-term endgame goals like legendaries then they are probably just waiting for “the right moment” to tell us they’ve changed their mind on SAB and finally it wont ever come back.

If they can break their promise for something we paid for they won’t hesitate to break it for optional content no matter how high its gameplay and nostalgic value is.

Here’s a hint about knowing who is and isn’t happy: dissatisfied players stopped playing and don’t post on forums where they don’t play. Happy players typically play the game and don’t post. Unhappy players still play, somewhat, and tend to be more vocal in their disappointing . . . because they’re still holding out for hope.

Just because you and your friends are happy doesn’t mean everyone lives in that bubble. Threads like that prove it out. And the backlash from that other thread and negative comments from hardcore supporters like Wooden Potatoes are the proverbial cherry atop this mess.

I think their server population is dropping at an alarming rate, which is why Colin is gone and they are trying to rebuild the game with a second expansion. The next expansion will probably be titled "Guild Wars 2 “A Realm Reborn”.

I was one of the most addicted and dedicated fan, I pre-orderred HoT the minute I could even if I thought 50$ was 20$ more than what I wanted to invest, I had saved 4k gold for it and got character slots, transferred servers a dozen times for WvW using real money, and Anet managed to completely disappoint me and make me leave he game just after the xpac was released. What a short-sighted failure on their part to rush out an unfinished product with a super high price tag. They’ll lose that money in the long-term.

Legendary weapons

Removing legendaries is a horrible business decision. As someone who enjoys skins, dressing up, and looking nice Legendary weapons are literally my endgame. Removing legendary weapons removes the endgame grind for people who want to have the perfect look. How many of those people do you think buy skins?

And now they cannot ever sell new legendaries in any future expansion because then that would be like charging your customer twice for the same content… Huge marketing failure while losing the customer enthusiasm.

I just don’t get how 6 people paid full time can only make 1 skin and 1 collection in like 6 months. Presuming these devs are competent then scrap the collection system, there is no need to over-complicate stuff if it reduces your content output by 95%.

Anyway the collection system is just a different type grind. I like the old system where you could play as you wish (like play WvW) to get your legendary.

All they needed to do is make kittening 16 skins and some precursor icons.

This expansion is falling apart. [Merged]

They already lost me as a customer like 2 months ago, but I’m always interested to see if they’ll ever get back on track. At the moment it doesn’t seem so.

The real problem was the price tag of the expansion. You just can’t sell 20$ worth of unbalanced and unfinished content for 50$, then say you’re going to make it up with extra content and updates in the future, and then backoff on that promise.

Huge issues like broken WvW have remained unfixed for 6 months, the WvW overhaul has supposedly been in the work for over a year yet they tell us to lower our expectations and that it will come out in tiny updates. I was part of that community and we were all getting bored to death even in Tier 1. We wasted so much money transferring servers just to find a place where WvW didn’t suck.

PvP balance is simply broken since the new trait system and it’s never going to get fixed because it is being handled by people who do not understand how the initial balance worked with stats being tied to trait lines.

The new professions, like Tempest, aren’t fun and the design quality is really questionable, there is no synergy or combos between the skills because you have to camp attunements. The special effects look rushed.

They promised so much to justify the high price tag, they even promised bigger Guild Halls arenas for GvG when people told them they looked too small. Meanwhile they couldn’t even get to program a scoreboard and I would bet anything that this promise will never be realized. So many broken promises and inflated price tag will never create an happy customer.

And I’m not even talking here about the lack of rewards and how the game turned into a grind fest.

Been having fun catching up on Ps4 games.
