If you played the game since launch you know there are way less build possibilities now than before the new trait system, specially on some classes like the elementalist that has become brain dead boring to play.

Making new servers after jq and bg already reopened just means that they will be way more full than all the other servers when they get paired. Cleaning the slate is still the best solution imo.

Most players can’t see possibilities on the long-term, server identities will be replaced with a new sense of identity if Anet do this right.

They need to do what will open the most possibilities for the future:

1- Guilds should be at the core of everything in WvW, but players without guilds shouldn’t feel left out.

2- There is no need for servers, we can rebuild communities around new alliance names. What we need is an adaptable and dynamic population system. You need to be able to play with or against all your friends, a “overflow” (or campaign) guesting system will allow that.

3- Gameplay should always be the priority. Skirmishes are a good step forward. That gameplay should be rewarded in guild rewards, guild rankings, personal rewards and player ranking. We need a different 3rd borderland, a smaller map, that is more fight focused and less capture driven. Balance has to be adapted so that skill matters, not only numbers.

…we are discussing whether we want to change how we calculate WvW world populations or if we want to lower the WvW population caps.

I don’t get it. The entire server ladder system is destroyed already. Tournaments are now impossible. Just get rid of the server system and make a global system that is adaptable.

Let everyone play together. Create overflow “campaigns” at reset according to the previous week population, let guilds or players choose their campaign and alliance.

No more population problems and server balancing. The guilds will register to a campaign weekly, keeping a priority spot to their previous campaign, and contribute to a global score of their alliance.

When the population drops campaigns are removed. When all campaigns are filled a new one open up. When an alliance has more players randomly chosen guilds are incited to change alliances at the next reset for a 100% magic find weekly increase.

When a guild leader change campaign the entire guild is transferred automatically.

Players can guest on other campaign of their alliance at a penalty of not getting loot.

Then you can create these mega tournaments and everyone will be able to play as they wish.

They just had to cap the healing if their reason was to remove the “cheesing”.

Guild Wars name refers to a series wars in the lore. Not to the guilds we have in the game now.

Seriously, the first game had GvG, we don’t give a kitten about the lore in WvW.
WvW is “war on an epic scale” and guilds fighting on it makes it guild wars.

Option 2 with a complete server merge. Do it, enough waiting.

People who transfered more than two times disgust me. They are the reason wvw is in the bad state it is.

WvW is in the bad state it is not because of the players, but because it was neglected for 2 years.

People transferred because of the bad state it is in to find somewhere fun to play.

I agree with redzerofighter. (S)he articulated the situation that I am also seeing. Honestly, looking this proposal doesn’t make sense to me. It sounds like Anet wants to fracture the “machine” so it has more pieces (smaller pieces) to combine with smaller pieces. I get the idea, but I don’t see it as a solution to the problem with linking servers.

Server population is an issue that is difficult to manipulate because of player choice. Offering more and more choices for us is wonderful, but not if it doesn’t solve the problem.

I don’t even know what goes into Anet’s consideration when they even look at server population. What it seems Anet has to do is manually place the server population proportionately so it can service the world v world community with fair and representative matchups. But how can you do that without angering the players who are playing on the worlds they chose or who have the choice of moving at the whims of the players?

When Anet began all this linking, my server disappeared. I’ve been a on a “guest” server ever since. Does anybody remember Ehmry Bay? R.I.P.

For me the core issue is really that I have about 100 friends doing WvW, and there about 8 of them on each servers. Now they come and propose to add more servers? How is that going to help with server communications and keeping the community together? It’s going to do the exact opposite.

I parked my account on JQ, so that when I feel like reinstalling the game WvW isn’t empty and I have more friends there. If I ever get kicked out of that server I’m never even going to bother loading up the game again.

I’m not salty at all the question is a legitimate one regardless of how one feels about BG/JQ. Why would they have even bothered making the thread they just made, makes no sense.

6 pages of reply and you define that as a “lack of interest”…
We’ve been asking for a WvW population fix it for 2 years…

We are interested beyond belief, but your proposition is not even a half measure, it’s a cheap fix that would lead to terrible results. It’s only good on paper and not in practice, which is what about 66% of the people in this thread have been saying. Why do you need us to tell you that? It has nothing to do with our interest.

More worlds = harder to play with friends = harder to transfer guilds = not good idea.

Is Anet so dependent on the cash you make from world transfers that it would rather let WvW in the current state instead of letting us all play together in a merged system? Is it the marketing people leading the development of WvW or dedicated developers with outstanding ideas?

Personally I have paid way too much on transfers just to follow the action in WvW with my friends and I’m never doing that again now that all my friends are scattered on different servers. It’s actually what made me and them uninstall the game, the complete impossibility of playing with my friends in WvW.

Many solutions have been proposed and you’re still in the conceptual stage of making surveys over a year after HoT’s release. How long will we have to wait? We thought you had this “WvW overhaul” figured out over a year ago when it was announced. It seems you didn’t even start.

We pretty much all agree that it’s not the time for half measures. Look at the title of your own game and then ponder for a moment about the acknowledgement of Guilds in WvW. You don’t even have a guild ranking system for WvW.

Look the campaign system from ESO. Their game is flawed but their campaign system would be perfect for GW2 servers with a few adjustments.

It’s 2 different strategy.

Anet try to make as much money as possible from the Gem store while investing the minimum possible on the core game to keep it alive. It’s not wrong per say, it’s just disappointing for the players.

Blizzard invest big money on their core game to turn it into a phenomenon and collect bigger in the end.

When you think that for a whole year all that Anet has done for WvW is release 3 tags color and a siege disabler: they just had nobody at all working on WvW, their actual endgame. They still can’t make up their mind on WvW server merge while it should have been done 2 years ago.

As for PvP, why did they only make 1 stronghold map with the expansion? They are so afraid to miss than they can’t even commit to what they start.

GvG anyone? When your community is making their own game type learn to respect the players and reward them with your expansion. Instead they just killed the community with a skill-less meta that removed the fun.

*Players want to play with or against their friends without having to transfer. A complete merge with 3 alliances is the only way to do that. *

The reason I’m currently not playing the game in the first place has to do with how the server system scattered my friends on different servers. When I logged on to play WvW I had none of my friends to play with.

Making more servers would be a disaster, I can’t believe it’s even on the table. It’s pretty much as terrible as the new PvP system not letting you play with more than 1 friend in a ranked match. I had 3 friends I liked to pvp with, now it’s impossible, same as WvW.

Who is making the decisions? Why make a MMO if you can’t even play with your friends?

If I’m completely honest, the majority of my school friends who introduced me to this game no longer play.. and the number of people leaving the game is dramatically increasing. I think you need to give players an incentive to actually play Guild Wars 2 first before you expect more players to play WvW.

95% of my friends left the game shortly after HoT was released for the reasons we all know.

I reinstalled it when they started LS3, went to do some WvW. Everything felt worse than it was a launch, my class was stuck in a support build, conditions are out of control, only the number of players win fights, not skill, skilled guilds are almost all gone, GvG scene is beyond dead.

I don’t see how fixing the server balance will suddenly make the gameplay better. And I don’t understand why they are asking us our opinion about something that should have been fixed 3 years ago. It’s not our job to come up with a good server system, we don’t need to know. Just get it done and move to the pressing matter of making the game “FUN”.

WvW and GW2 needs a freaking electric shock of content and changes, and not the sort HoT brought to the table.

Anyone here remember the trill of stealing the Orb with 10 people chasing you and your buddy at 4am in the morning?

Anyone remember how a team of 10 people organized could win a fight against 20 pugs because the game balance once rewarded skill instead of skill spamming?

Anyone remember when Guilds used to lead the way and were qualified to defeat blobs?

Wake up Anet and play your own game. Stop looking only at the Gem Store numbers and take a look at the player’s experience. This is what the Rocket League team has been doing and they have benefited greatly from that approach, as much as their players.

I guess the current state of things is really just the repercussions of a badly thought-out expansion. When you do not even add one new Blast Field to a class which is specialized in laying down fields how can you revitalize the gameplay? You need to hire someone with cool ideas.

Merging the server is like 1% of the job that needs to be done and you need to ask us how to do it? We won’t get very far if we proceed that way.

Why not just do what has been proven to work?

Merge the servers in 3 alliances, have players choose their alliance, create the appropriate number of overflow campaigns on a weekly basis according to the previous week activity and population.

We could achieve more balanced competition in a world-versus-world setting if we had more pieces to join together with the World Linking System. It currently is not possible for us to establish an “equal” number of players on each link/world with the current world sizes. You may recall this initially was mentioned by Tyler a few months ago.

For example, world populations currently look something like this:
• World 1: 95%
• World 2: 82%
• World 3: 81%
• World 4: 60%
• World 5: 30%
• World 6: 10%

Since our final world total needs to be divisible by 3 because we need a team for each color—Red, Blue, and Green—we either need to avoid linking any of the worlds, or link some worlds even if the result is that they have the advantage of a larger population.

• Worlds 1+6: 105%
• Worlds 2+5: 112%
• Worlds 3+4: 141%

After linking, the difference in population between the highest and lowest teams is much narrower, but the third rank server still has significantly more population than the server that previously was ranked first. Also, the result of this theoretical world linking is that all worlds are now above our goal population cap, and probably have moderate to heavy queues.

If we instead had twice as many worlds, but if each had about half the population, it would be much easier to create linked teams with similar populations. This would lead to better matchups for everyone, and encounters would be less predictable. In this scenario, we would allow players free transfers to the new empty worlds for a period of time. These worlds would start out linked so that they wouldn’t begin in an empty state in a match-up. We would lower the player population cap on all worlds so that more worlds would become and stay “Full.” The result would be that guilds that want to expand would have an excellent option to do so with a move to these new open worlds.

Having outlined some of the thinking behind this proposal, we’d like your feedback on these three topics.
1. How do you feel about this proposal?
2. What, if anything, would you change about this current proposal?
3. Would you be interested in transferring to a new free world?

They tried it. Courtyard really didn’t work.

Deathmatch as a mode is still feasible, that map wasn’t the best setup for it, or at least to me it seemed too small for that game mode. Double its size and that might have changed it up.

Yeah, I really feel they just didn’t put any work into that map. Compared to other maps, it’s just so plain. And it is way to small. Death match can still work, they just have to get more creative with the map.

Deathmatch also needs to be round based.

I miss Court yard.

Courtyard was my favorite map. Straight chaotic gameplay, no bunker build to take advantage of the “stand in circle” game mode. If only they could have made more TDM maps and bigger ones.

The “wvw overhaul” was the alliance/battlegroups and the skirmish/scoring changes. Pretty sure they haven’t been working on it since they decided to strip parts and release what they could, skirmish, and went with another populations solution, links.

Dunno where you got the other craziness of gvg and skirmishes integrated in new wvw maps and new combo fields, wtf. And drop the orbs already, they gave us ruins and bloodlust as it’s replacements because of fly hacking.

So what happens if Anet blows it all up?
Probably still lose players, there are other problems that won’t be addressed by a blow up.

Bah the class isn’t fun to play anymore for me.
I mean it’s not just about numbers, it’s the gameplay variety that is gone.

My only fun in pvp was creating builds that would surprise people and learning to master them. Since this is gone I have no more incentive to play this game.

I am very endureable and still have a better playing experience and performance with ele over warrior. What i am not clear at the glyph is what is with the ICD now. If it´s 5 seconds shared over all 4 elements then the 100% is better but not enough to make it a useful utility over others. The text is a bit strange.
Had no time to try much till now. Tried eather renewal. Still high CT got interrupted as expected :-) but it´s noticable better.

Got very excited about the changes…then realised that nothing has really changed ele is still “bunker full heal or die”, still ridiculous after cast on almost everything, still pitiful dmg unless you go full jihad build with zero sustain….luckily Civilasation 6 is released tomorrow

Good luck with your social life with civ 6.

It’s just another way to destroy the light classes with low hp even more, since they are the ones going down more often. The warrior with double endure pain doesn’t go down as often as an elementalist who has twice less hp, so how is this fair?

I’m REALLY unhappy with the direction in which this game is going.

It took 3(ish) months for cannon blueprints to come into the game. We know it’s a possibility they were already designed before the poll. Not only that but the new build cannons don’t even act/react to anything in a normalized fashion relative to the other siege we build.

That feels way to slow, practically unacceptable with “bugs” that literally couldn’t have made it though a single (real)test.

Why would I take part in a poll now? Like….. seriously, wut?

This is straight bullslaugen devs, slow delivery, failed delivery, just another day in the wvw life.

Said so 6 months ago: These polls are a diversions to keep people patient until the next expansion hits. If they waited 3 months for the release of the canons it isn’t because it took a long time to implement, it’s because they are spreading the butter thin with the little they have of the “WvW overhaul”.

They couldn’t even put a little effort into actually making them player siege by having them take damage from conditions and a siege decay timer before releasing it?

GW2 is a game that was clearly focused and well conceived on release. Then, once the game was released, it’s like a different company took over and started to do random things, breaking things that work well (old trait system, condi cap, dungeons difficulty), making content that people would only see for a limited amount of time, and implementing things that aren’t needed (siege disabler) instead of improving what works (combat system).

The only thing that has been truly consistent is the quality of the graphic work by the artists. They clearly have a team making new maps (DBL) but what is the core WvW team of programmers doing? Is there even such a team? Where is the WvW overhaul?

Having a beta test of having the Orbs back in the borderlands would have been interesting.

The game’s strength isn’t siege anyhow. It’s the possibility to use combo fields as a group and the dynamic combat system. And we all know that isn’t as fun as it used to be. I think that combat should have been addressed first.

You should bring the condi cap back to WvW at least.

Ele still has powerful DPS output. Just need to kite more, time dodges and hope someone doesn’t sneeze on you by accident.

It’s still less than what guards do with 10 times less effort and risk.

It’s weak and boring. The only thing it has is a bit of mobility and the aura share, everything else sucks kitten .

Even with the highest glass canon damage build possible a heavy class do more damage by roiling their face on the keys and having twice more hp or armor. So what’s the point of playing elementalist? Because the gameplay has a niche where some functions of the class can be used in some high-end tournament? Very few actually care about that, specially when you solo queue. So I stopped playing the class then left the game, my friend elementalist also left the game or stop playing the class.

It’s a disaster if you have a bit of perspective and look at where the class started at launch. I was running in pvp over 5 completely different and functional builds. None of which are usable today.

I feel like more nerfs are incoming...

without any changes in ele balance team I predict this:
1. remowal of mender/magi+buffing again healing power contribution to healing skill’s/traits
2. cooldown’s will stay the same only few damage 0.5% buffs
3. no serious reworks on skill’s
4. they make glich that cause temepst to self-destruct on every use of rebound

…and ESL pro players will keep using ele as healbot because there will be nothing better for 5th spot, and in new soloq will be still butchered by random autoattacks.

Seriously…if nothing changes for better 2016 is probably the worst year to main ele (at least in pvp) . I really hope that i am not a prophet:(.

The removal of the celestial amulet really was a stupid idea. They could have nerfed it by 3% or something if it was soooo strong.

Okay so, to my knowledge, the Celestial amulet was removed due to Ele’s being OP at the time.
Well, the meta has changed and from my knowledge, the only viable ele builds currently available are super tanky builds or fresh air(which is alright but undertoned imo)

So, can we see a return of the celestial amulet so to make more offensive Ele viable builds?

It would probably make me reinstall the game if they could at least do that…

Just played an sPVP game with as a staff ele and every other auto attack on a moving target was either “Obstructed” or “Out of range”. And this was on flat land with no walls around and definitely in range. Why is this a thing? Is staff just useless in PVP?

It seems all you have to do to negate any fireballs is just strafe back and forth really quickly…

Staff attacks are also too slow for WvW. Chain lightning needs a serious buff in speed for example to be somewhat reliable. When the game was released 1-2k for 3 targets meant something and I remember finishing people with it. Today it’s completely useless, people just regenerate health faster.

In the current meta only high damage bursts or skills are good (or condis), everything that does lower damage becomes worthless. And most elementalist skills are in that low damage zone, the other ones are too slow to be really reliable (ice spike – dragon tooth are to the extreme). Meanwhile a class like the Revenant can just press “2” and 1-shot an elementalist for 17k.

When you think that a skill like Eruption could have a 50% faster cast speed and 33% damage increase and it still wouldn’t make much of a difference for the other classes then you realize just how bad the class has been balanced.

@maddoctor – I agree with what you wrote. If any class says that they would rather run an extra utility over any of their elite skills, then there is something wrong with their elite skills.

This discussion has been going on since the kitten launch almost. We had hope that with HoT we would kittening finally at least get 1 cool elite skills for the elementalist, even if we didn’t like the kittenty tempest design.

I mean Tempest means storm, am I not kittening right? So we expected the elite to be some type of kitten aoe storm field! Instead nope… get got kittening recycled auras because they didn’t have the kittening time to fix the first failed kittenty version of the skill that was supposed to reduce the kitten cooldowns of 1 skill (but didn’t work).

The HP pools were functional with the old trait system. Elementalist could get the extra 3k hp from Water and even use a zerk amulet that way. Classes were balanced by the strength of their trait line that way.

When they implemented the new trait system the balance ceased to be. They buffed every stats for every class as if all the stats had the same importance for every class.

What they ended up doing was removing the purpose of light/low hp classes, as they could no longer use the same amulets as heavy class.

The answer is simple. Our sPvP population is nothing like the one in WoW. It’s just too small. It was already too small on the day they merged soloq and teamq into one (that was after all the main reason behind that merge) and it’s got even smaller since then.

Yes but Anet is going about it the wrong way. Instead of trying to expand they are always reducing the game because players are leaving. Now if they follow their poll and remove team queue they will lose 95% of the pvp guilds. It’s a self-destructive process.

They need to add both options to give room for the population to grow, not remove options because the population is shrinking.

Then they also need to ask themselves why everyone is leaving. Everyone that bought this game at launch wanted a GvG mode and Anet NEVER answered. They presented Stronghold as GvG, with perhaps more than 5 players and with a guild ranking system just to sell HoT but it was just empty promises and a single map. They also promised larger guild arenas and never delivered them either.

When your expansion only contains 1 single map and we get to play it for 6 months before the xpac is released there is not much to go on. Specially when it’s not GvG but just more of the same 5v5 pvp. Balance, gameplay and build variety was the only thing that held this game competitive modes together, and now it is all broken.

They know what people wants yet always respond with a negative. It sucks because we all see the potential and wish for this game to live up to it.

I feel your pain, I moved on however so I can’t be disappointed. I’m just curious to see if Anet can win me back as a player.

I haven’t bought gems in over a year and I used to do so at least twice a month. You can do the math. And also because I felt HoT was just half an expansion for the unreasonably high price tag I won’t ever buy another expansion. I think the best course of action is to make companies understand your dissatisfaction with your wallet.

You know, if HoT was absolutely terrible, it doesn’t necessarily follow that the next expansion will be. You’re only punishing yourself if you miss out on better content that follows (and in my opinion, LW S3 looks awfully promising so far).

You don’t wanna buy gems? I’m not even going to try to convince you. But I have yet to see an MMO that didn’t have high points and low points, and I do hope that if you continue to post in these forums you’ll come around.

I know, maybe the next expansion will be amazing. If it is and Anet redeem themselves I will buy it. I won’t naively pre-order it this time however, and I’ll wait until I receive the feedback and reviews of everyone I know.

Dear All

Typically I’ve left GW2 before the expansion. Things may have changed since but when I first saw the new expansion, something about it turned me away from it. So fast forward over a year I’m sort of back. I notice some cool looking features have been added to the game. Though I’m still on the “vanilla” version.

I usually main a staff ele and warrior for pvp, wvw and pve, but this iteration of staff ele seems different, it very inflexible, doesn’t seem natural (my interpretation), it seems more punishing for trying to play it. Flame burst I’m required to manually look in the direction my character is facing for it to cast, where as before it would of turned around (standing still) to cast at the targeted opponent.

Lightning surge’s and shock wave’s casting field of area seems narrower when you are moving in combat.

I understand meteor have been reduced to three targets, I really don’t have problem with that, but the radius of impact seems off or the interval of meteors are more pronounced and less threatening.

The switching of attunement may be me (cause I’m out of practice) or the mouse is playing up. Sometime it seems unresponsive on command.

I get the impression for the reasoning behind of these changes, is to perhaps remove the close combat effectiveness the staff ele could possess if played rightly. Or I’m simply out of the loop and there other reasons to consider.

If anyone knows the date of major changes/updates to the staff ele or take the time to enlighten me, I would appreciate it. I will search of course. If a similar post has been made I apologise and ask for this thread to be closed if you can point me to the thread echoing my concerns.

A lot of things have been nerfed on the ele. I suggest you try a new class like the Revenant if you want to come back to the game.

Line-casting was nerfed, before you could line up your meteors by interrupting the animation at the very end and using burning retreat. Most people did this unknowingly. Now they are always scattered the same. You can see an example of line casting in my GvG farewell video (when I left the game for 6 months) here (25 seconds in): https://vimeo.com/139760047

Also the enemies now see the red circle of meteor shower, so they all dodge out – making the best elementalist skill mostly useless in WvW and PvP except for nuking canons and siege.

Then the elementalist class has been designed as a healing bot with the expansion and the heavy class hit as hard as the light class, so there isn’t much reason to play a light class.

All I want is for the game to be fun again. So many things have been unjustifiably nerfed by stealth and no longer work well.

2 example of things that ruined gameplay and wont get fixed:
- The possibility to use Ride the Lightning in mid air. Probably was the coolest thing you could do as an elementalist when attacking from above.

- The removal of line-casting to anticipate where the Meteor of Meteorshower would fall, and the addition of huge red circle. That nerf just destroyed the best elementalist skill: Anet didn’t even bother to buff the speed of the skill or the amount of meteors, or add knockdown like in GW1. Now everyone has 2 seconds to jump out of the circle or pop up their invul in WvW before they get striked, and even if they don’t the meteors are all scattered and rarely hit a target.

So, you could extend that list to dozens of little nerfs that made the elementalist class just NOT FUN to play anymore.

So, if I have only one hope for this balance patch and if you ever want to see me reinstall this game and buy gems again, it is that this new balance patch is a gameplay-focused patch (real changes to the skills to make them more “cool” to use, and not just a list of number changes.
