I think the game is just too easy. There is no incentive to visit older zones beside doing the world bosses. Not much discovery to be made on the PvE side, random loot encourages champ runs. PvE story lacks a reason to be done with a team of friends.
Also then there is the Living Story… temporary content. At first I thought the Living Story would be new areas like Southsun coming out every 2 weeks… But it’s more like a little event to farm for a weapon or armor skin.
WvW has potential but poor class balance and the repetitiveness of it has long reached it’s climax. It needs a massive investment in development time and about a dozen maps.
Finally, there is the missing GvG mode.
you guys should totally change ride the lightning to a 20 second cooldown! none of that 40 seconds if you miss nonsense
How about 16 seconds, like it was in the good old days? This would make people a lot more happy than moving traits around the tree for the sake of “build variety”.
I would really restrain myself from bragging about having to double team someone to keep them in second place.
Good idea! It would certainly be an interesting change.
I would say:
1 – Mesmers
2- Warrior
3- Engi
The correct answer is “all of them” because the game is perfectly balanced.
Anet when balancing: “A level 80 staff ele should be able to beat a level 20 warrior… Ok, job well done, that seems balanced”
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
They should nerf if by 60% to match the nerf eles got on cd for Ride the Lightning…
Finally another class would understand how it feels like.
The most I’ve seen on a meteor shower was a 9k crit. It was from a total glass canon.
I don’t think 20k is possible, 10k perhaps.
Well I hope they took what everyone had to say into consideration before they put the next patch out.
Dude I’m French and I have no idea what your complaining or talking about.
Dude the ele is intended to have ZERO chance against thieves. It’s the ultimate achievement in class balance in a game, to make one (ele) completely worthless against the superior class (thief).
When you see a thief just cast all your defensive spells and run for your life.
kitten I remember when I could use Ride The Lightning every 16 seconds. That was so much fun and no one suffered because of it. Now it’s just a lame pretty useless skill.
They said that when they’ll do GvG it “Won’t be an half-done thing”. Looks far from half done to me…. more like 5% done.
They did something for a game mode that isn’t remotely accessible through any kind of menu.
But even as a simple area it seriously lack in the visual department. Just compare this new area to some of the Guild missions areas for example (that would serve better as guild halls for battles). The lights/shadows aren’t very interesting.
The area is completely flat, therefore it doesn’t offer any variety for vertical strategy or cover (pillars, trees, bushes)
The environment is not interactive. How about a central area surrounded by a lava pit where only 10 players can enter from each side via a bridge? Or some waterfall/poll somewhere. Anyway a defitive lack of energy seems to be around when it’s question of re-implementing the game mode that made Guild Wars 1 live.
Even with the new map coming up I doubt that it will keep people playing WvW for long unless it has an impact on the score.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
How do you not notice this in testing?
Because they only play on god mode…
Anyway I understand how they can make a mistake, it’s no big deal.
What I wonder about is the new WvW arena, just seems hastily implemented.
Not just duels, GvG possible all around the open world, but not in cities.
It will not make any difference. It’s like the new super speed trait… Never noticed anyone using it and nobody in my guild is using it.
If you’re serious about wanting to promote build diversity the move Evasive Arcana to a master tier trait and there you go. At the moment you’d be a fool not have it so instead of destroying arcana, move that trait.
I think Anet is stuck between a rock and a hard place. They want to improve the ele but do not intend to improve it in a way that it will make any difference. In one hand they give us some unnoticeable buffs, like the conjured weapons, and in the other they nerf RTL and Mistform to the point where they are no longer fun to use.
I would like to believe but the truth is I have no more faith in their ability to balance the ele class with the other classes. Last 2 times I played GW2 I raged-quit because of some perma-immobilize warrior I cannot even bring to 75% health with my 1000 hours-in staff ele all ascended and legendary with a build I totally master.
Unless they come out with some amazing content (GvG, new PvE areas) I’m on the verge of just moving on, that is unless I see a real effort to fix the overpowered classes.
I’ve been playing less because I’m waiting for the GvG update and Guild Halls.
Maybe the new WvW map will motivate me a bit.
Just thought it might help the Devs to look at classes with the most feedback for future patches.
Elementalist – 21 pages
Engineer – 11 pages
Guardian – 10 pages
Mesmer – 10 pages
Necromancer – 15 pages
Ranger – 19 pages
Thief – 17 pages
Warrior – 6 pagesIt may not be the best way to compare class issues but here is a very simple count of pages from each class forum for the thread titled Dec 10th patch with a Dev comment. IMO there were sweeping changes to Elementalist and Thief, which may explain the number of pages. There are is an obvious gap with half the classes from this comparison.
Any chance we can get some statistics for number of people playing, classes played, hours played (by class and region (pve/spvp/wvw) for a couple weeks before and after Dec 10th?
Warrior only 6 pages – Im wondering why!? :P
Warriors aren’t the intellectual type you know… To play an ele you have to spend 3 months figuring out a good build with your calculator, hit 5 keys a second in battle and compensate for the 3 sec lag avg of every skill, have the best great and all ascended trinkets to compensate for your class beeing the weakest; all this to get beaten to a pulp by a warrior bashing a few keys.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
It should be a Gold, Silver and Bronze special shiny dye. This would rock.
The only updates that felt like a living story for me were Southsun Cove and Sanctum.
Sanctum was just remove from the game for some reason I can’t understand. And beside a super hard guild rush, jp and the Karka queen Southsun was left there to be forgotten.
You can’t even play Southsun Survival with your friends! wth
It’s kinda sad when you look at the world map.
3. Lower Armor of Earth cd already… ele only got 2 stability skill Tornado and armor of earth….. 90 sec cd on a 6 sec stability is a bit much… or u *should just delete all stability skill from the game…. i hate it.
I read and agree with pretty much everything your saying beside the stability issue. I like stability and the ele need more of it and more stun breakers (cd for Armor of Earth is ridiculously high).
My main problem is with the stacking immobilize. I have no clue what is Anet definition of “fun” but not being able to move for 20 seconds as a squishy ele when 2 warrior hits you with hundread blades is lame. It makes the class (and game) very frustrating to play.
Take into consideration for example the last buff that was made for the ele class “conjured weapons”. Has it made any difference to promote build diversity? Not a kitten difference at all! Everyone just ignores them and runs the same builds as before.
Fire axe still does extremely low damage and people that tried using it to stack might all gave up.
Frost bow has only 1 good aoe skill, the other do not heal enough, do not have enough range and are too slow.
Lightning hammer requires that you change your entire build to a complete squishy to work.
Magnetic shield even if better is still useless and bares little consequence on a battle.I think that we can all agree that when it’s been the time to buff some ele skill Anet has underdone it.
When we think about nerfs however, we all have the memory of the dramatic 60% increased RTL recharge (AND range reduction) and removal of utility skills during Mist-form (while conditions keep destroying us).
So here Anet proposes some buff for “build diversity” (TY for the good intention!). Sounded too good to be true actually. We had reasons to be skeptical but we believed, specially that diamond skin idea… But we look deeper into it (me and some guild friends) and wow, many good builds have been nerfed.
For the sake of what I ask? Because I don’t need diamond skin, in a WvW context your rarely at full health, and my healing cures conditions.
Specifically what build has been nerfed please?
The one I posted in my previous post for example, as other builds posted here by other users.

So post nerf, mostly for wvw:
1) Axe(main): Mediocre damage, way too much dmg backloaded onto 6th autoattack to be pvp-viable and terrible utility
2) Axe(offhand): God-awful everything
3) GS: Mobility only, indirect 100b nerf with skullcrack nerf.
4) Rifle: High dmg mostly single target but only useful with pure glass builds w/ high crit chance + dmg + power. Survivability is based on pairing with GS + EP and never making a mistake.
5) LB: Nerfed, mediocre/low damage. Only truly viable with condi builds.
6) Sword: Mediocre/low dmg except for final thrust, which reliably requires a stun condition to actually burst.
7) Sword(offhand): Terrible power scaling/low dmg, condi-only weapon
8) Shield: High defense, zero damage
9) WH: Mobility + utility, zero damage
10) Mace: Huge nerf, will be extremely hard to land a skullcrack considering its range and now 1/2s cast time + big animation. Indirectly nerfs GS. Big nerf to damage from Mace stuns.
11) Mace(offhand): Terrible dmg, one block one knockdown
11) Hammer: Burst nerfed making it very difficult to build enough dmg in wvw to actually kill targets before their heal gets off CD, especially if they make proper use of blinds, dodges, evades, invulns, teleports, stun breaks, blocks, or stab. Mediocre damage post-nerf. You can kiss killing full-bunkers goodbye with hammer, even with pure damage builds. So basically, warrior weapons are for support-only. Got it Anet.
The only viable builds I see if you actually want to have any sort of competitive dmg is:
1) Pure condi war LB + SS (wooo more skill-less, boring condi kitten!!!!)
2) Glass Rifle + GS
3) Nerfed hammer war that is dependent on someone else to actually finish off targets for them because they will lack sustained burst/dmg against any half-decent player.
This nerf is clearly, very clearly targeted only at the spvp Hambow war. So why not make spvp ONLY changes Anet???? This is going to trash our wvw builds/effectiveness.
We’re already extremely lacking on viable offensive builds (the main purpose of this class was to be a primary DPS class), and you just nerfed yet another one into the ground unnecessarily, mainly because terrible players can’t figure out how to use blinds, dodges, evades, invulns, teleports, stun breaks, blocks, or stab.
And for the love of god buff axe, especially offhand. No one in their right mind takes axe at this point because it is so godkitten awful.
Your still going to be able to beat a staff ele in a few seconds bashing your keys randomly so there is no point crying.
This will turn out to be a huge problem, not all classes should have aegis, specially not warriors and thieves (who can perma blind you already).
Well we didn’t get the invite so it’s disappointing here. When is it coming out?
GvG is what Guild Wars 2 need. Smaller maps with similar objectives, 12 vs 12 or 25 vs 25.
Consider my build for one second and see why the patch doesn’t promote diversity at all…
My 10/15/0/15/30 build will give you an instant 315 power/condi boost (9 might stacks) and 4500 regen when using your 3 cantrips (fire-water 10).
Immediately attune to fire with Sigil of battle 140 more power/condi, blast fire field with evasive arcana (105 more power/condi).
With some training you can get all those might stacks while using your cantrips in the proper situation within 4-5 sec. You end up with 16 stacks of might by yourself and 19 when you blast a second field (after about 10 sec in battle). That’s 665 extra raw power and condition damage, almost the equivalent of 3 sigil of bloodlust (2,66).
On top of that you have that nice lightning bolt on air attunement that crit for 2k dmg.
Now because it is so easy to get a quick extra 600 cnd dmg with might stacks, all your gear points into condition damage can be exchanged for vitality or toughness. The build also greatly compensate for the decrease in power caused by celestial gear.
This is an amazing build nobody uses which will sadly be BROKEN after the next patch: For the sake of “diversity” I will be losing my regen on cantrips which is moving to the master tier. I would need 5 more points for it which implies I would have to lose my lightning bolt (air 15). How is that not a nerf disguised as a buff?

For WvW it has become “Immobilize Wars 2”…
So what if Arena finally admit the mistake of Ascended Gears and decides to reverse their decision and remove the gears entirely? Would people be happy or would people be upset at this point?
I personally would be happy if they got rid of them, even though I have all ascended stuff already. Just compensate by giving us gold for each ascended piece.
What mistake? What’s the problem with ascended, it gives people a reason to keep playing. I like it all and the more gear the better. I wouldn’t mind Legendary having their own stats increase (3%).
They’ve redone the ladder to be more progressive and challenging. You should be happy about it; it’s gonna give you something to do.
So much more interested in this than the living story instances.
Wished we could also try the new WvW map!
Yeah it would be nice is Gust worked. The last 15 times I used it nothing happened.
RTL didn’t go from 20 sec to 40 sec but from 16 sec to 40 sec.
First nerf was 20% increase, second was 100% increase.
Heres to hoping but…
Fractal release with that new fractal update will see fractal rewards updated too including the ability to gain ascended armor just like when ascended weapons via crafting came out and you got the ability to get ascended weapons.
On from that ascended armor crafting will come out including the now all crafting disciplines being able to see 500 cap.
Along further from this precursor questlines will be availiable which will coincide with all crafting being at 500cap because there will be some item as a part of a quest chain that will require 500 max crafting of various disciplines.
My conclusions came from 1 we have had NO feature sections for releases for like 2 months, 2 datamined ascended armor ages ago including ascended armor chests/caches new datamined precursor questline/crafting things. Picture ressembling the 3 fractals we are expecting being molten facility aetherblade hideout and thaurmanova reactor. And finally that in previous major content / feature loaded updates generally came the 2 weeks / patch before a major balance rework….dec 10th is major balance patch therefore I would argue nov 26th patch will see major feature / content patch. =)
Your optimistic… Hopefully yes ascended armor parts will drop from fractals… The problem is however that you won’t be able to sell them if they are not the one you require.
They can’t justify it, we are getting destroyed in almost every 1 vs 1 battle against heavy classes. They haven’t replied to our complaints about it for the last 5 months.
Mist form nerf was just as bad.
I can solo the Giant in cursed shore with my ele. It just take way to much time…
Removal of gameplay is never a good idea. It’s the main reason why I’ve been playing this game less and less. Everything added should be accessible in some way.
The fact that you still cannot play southsun survival with friends is already disastrous and now you cannot even play it every day. I don’t know what the hell they are thinking.
If I look at what most of my guild mates are doing right now I’d say about 80% are doing champ runs for their legendaries and WvW. The Living story seem’s to keep player’s interest only for a few days and the PvE stuff is too generic: random loot, lack of challenge and no new areas to explore.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
The more I think about this the more I realize their planned changes will do more harm than good.
After the RTL, Mistorm and healing nerf we get adept skills changed to master while being told it’s not a nerf but an improvement. Yet when you start listing the builds that will no longer work that new update, once again, fall into the category of a massive fail nerf.
I think it’s fine as it is. You want to chose your stats then craft it.
And here we go, all this discussion to come back around to an obvious mistake:
The epic fail nerfing of Ride the Lightning and Mist Form.
It’s not just about the amount of player, a good guild will wipe zergs twice their size.
From what I can see from these “smaller” servers, they have the same number as us on reset nights, but just lack coordination to survive fights and relies on numbers.
Our current adversaries certainly can’t blame numbers for yesterday’s reset night.
The number of times some zerg came running at us without stability or any type of organization and was wiped in a few seconds was ridiculous.
The rest of the week is another matter.
Agreed, the area looks amazing but the reason to go there is underwhelming (standing in 5 circles). Thinking even the quaggan/krait pearl/weather node was more interesting than standing in the ruins.
Lot’s of improvements are possible in that beautiful area.
yeah, why dont we increase the stat gain to 50/bloodlust buff you own and the stomp points to 1 per boon. that would be an awesome reason to hold the ruins and to fight for them … wait…?
That’s not what I’m saying at all. We have enough stuff to change the stats as it is.
It needs to be something useful, like redesigned weather nodes, extra supply deliveries, unique skills…. or a nuke that kicks everyone out of the map.
Elementalists are so under-powered and easy to bring down they need that ability to run back inside and heal – as they also play an essential role in tower defence.
If you remove that you’re going to break the class and the game even more.
It just sounds like something someone who never played one would want, like the stealth or backstab nerf people are asking for.
Go roll and ele and come back to complain when you’ve experienced what it is to play that class.
Looks great…. But you will have to make the other maps an overall graphic update and more interesting objective as well.
The current maps look way too generic in comparison (outside of the BL ruins) and lack dynamism (like storm and weather, which were even removed).

Ok well it launched again when I deleted my Guild Wars 2 folder in my library.
I lost all my configurations however…
The last game update completely broke the game on my mac.
All I get is a gray window and an arrow shape mouse icon.
This kittening sucks after all the time and money invested.
What the hell happened?
