On SBI we had about 10 people roaming around tonight in EB (scattered). One other server had about the same numbers, and the winning server had a blob of 50 people doing golem rushes.
If a few guild break apart or change server it becomes apparent that the game mode can’t sustain itself, at least in its current form.
Something must be done because there is little fun to be had when all you can do is take camps.
Solution:
Merge the servers by population into 3 factions
Make EOTM count for PPT, remove the overflow, make EOTM matches last 24 hours
Have daily WvW scores in a Weekly matchup (week score on 7)
Have only 1 borderland map which one of the 3 faction must defend (changes at daily reset)
Is Anet ever going to cap immobilization stacks to something like 5 seconds?
Being unable to move for 15 sec when your fighting 1 vs 3 is far from pleasant.
Am I wrong to think that when a player cannot move for over 15 seconds in a video game something could be wrong with the gameplay?
I’m more upset with the fact one person cried about this and got an instant dev response than the actualy change. It feels so degrading to always be ignored when you present ele issues, whereas a single complaint from the recieving end gets adressed straight away…
This is probably the strangest fact about the announced change. The bug forum is bursting full with far more important issues and THIS gets fixed? If they did (miraculously) solve all the other issues as well I would not say anything, but how likely is that?
Bugs have different priority levels and ease of repair. I’ve fixed low priority bugs that were simple fixes because they were exactly that — simple. I’ve also postponed high priority bugs that were incredibly difficult to fix.
From the original forum post, it seems that this was a simple scripting error which didn’t require any changes to the code base. That would make it something trivial to repair.
I wouldn’t look much deeper than that regarding why this is getting fixed so soon over other bugs. In fairness they have fixed issues nearly every patch. They are getting thru it, although slowly.
True, i’v myself have done that a lot, but that doesn’t explain why the other spells don’t get fixed that has the same problem.
I had my hopes up for those fixes when I saw the “fake” balance patch notes (congratulation to whoever did those, everything the ele needed). Now all hope is gone, we will probably get some other unnoticeable buffs, hidden trait nerfs sold as buffs and this huge nerf to our best skill (as everyone will just dodge out of the huge circle now).
1- Make elemental attunement baseline , with the trait making it aoe to your team mates.
2- Revert RTL. The range nerf alone was enough, it was overdone by doubling the cooldown.
3- Fix focus. Water attunement and fire attunement specifically. If all 3 of these things actually were changed, ele would be very balanced.

What this guy is saying, with extra mustard on top (by that I mean with an improvement in Staff auto-attacks casting times/speed and a weapon swap button).
Wannaplay a game of Southsun Survival with a friend?
Wanna play a Sanctum race with a friend for a change?
Well you can’t!
These are issues that should have been fixed a long time ago. It’s not a good thing when ina MMO people can’t even play together with their guildmates and friends.
Why spend the time do develop this cool content and then rush the implementation?
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
Make that 7 matches of 24 hours that resets 1 hour after the daily instead of 21 of 8 hours and you’ll have a working formula. You also need to bring EOTM on par with the other maps and give it count for PPT. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind a queue on EOTM.
But at this point any changes would be welcome.
I agree with this, CHill shouldn’t affect F1-F4 attunements
Every balance patch has some negative impact on the ele. The last one in particular destroyed the build I had been running for months by moving up to the Master tier 2 of the Adept traits I was using.
Meteor Shower is obviously our best staff skill, it was also pretty easy to avoid. Now with a red circles enemies will dodge out before the first meteor even strike. It is a huge buff for people who are fighting a staff ele, as it makes our best spell even easier to avoid.
In 1 vs 1 we were already almost an hopeless case, now its just getting worse.
Anet is better to have a noticeable buff to damage or functionality (instant drop of first meteor as the red circle appears?) to compensate for this, because between the lack of new content, lack of GvG and a broken class (RTL over 50% nerf, Mist-Form healing removed, and now this?), I’m just gonna move to the next big MMO.

I totally share that feeling.

You could always convert the audio format by rerouting it through logic (or some other audio application, perhaps audacity) through a virtual driver like Soundflower or Jack os X.
EOTM is an amazing map; but I believe it was poorly implemented.
In all honesty, I believe less and less in the Borderland map idea.
EOTM should replace the current BL map simply because it’s better and more fun and is 3-way like EB.
The current BL map should be the place where all server merges and a specific colour defend.
3-way maps like EOTM or EB are much more interesting anyway than BL maps that are copypasted 3 times.
1- Removal of Matchup forum decreased most people’s interest
2- Matchups are too long, all the good you may do in one day has little impact over the weekly score
3- Lack of a true GvG system (with guild ranks and halls) means less and less people are interested in GW2 overall
4- WvW relies on reward because it is lacking a sense of accomplishment like GvG in GW1 had
5- Pve is too easy, lack of new zones (with new music, skills and challenges) and hard zones makes the overall community bored
6- EOTM showed us how WvW could be so much better, but at the same time has no impact on score, which in turn left most of the community confused about what Anet is trying to do with WvW
7- New skills that aren’t worth using, lack of promised content (like new traps), static maps, bugs (like getting stuck after Blink or Lightning Flash) amongst other problems also do not help
In my opinion only GvG and PvE expansions with many super-hard zones can save GW2 in the long run. Anet has amazing game mechanics (best I’ve seen for a mmo) but seems not to capitalize on them.
kitten , and for once I was looking very much forward to this balance patch.
Finally the elementalist was improved considerably without having builds broken.
Don’t remove Aoe… That would be a huge mistake.
Instead reduce the target limit of Aoe for Heavy classes but increase it for light classes.
it sounds amazing… Specially if you can trait it.
I hope the fps issues are resolved in the same patch.
My performance dropped by over 50% since the last patch and it has nothing to do with culling. The engine has seriously deteriorated.
I am experiencing lag and massive frame rate drops since the EOTM patch.
For some of us performance of the game fps has decreased by 75%+ since the last patch. Where I had 20 fps in zerg fights I now have 5 fps. Coincidentally, their servers also seem to have problems, all my guild is reporting lag issues.
Not too sure what happened there but meanwhile I’m playing another game, until they fix it.
I dont know, I hope they come up with something soon. I sucks to waste money on the Gem store and find out later that the game has become unplayable.
Any idea on a fix?
WvW is just unplayable right now, when you get 5 fps, specially combined with the slower servers since EOTM, or maybe its just the unplayable fps that give me the impression of lag.
Thank you for the upcoming fix because currently the game is unplayable. Average of 5 fps in WvW zerg battles. Used to be 15-25 at minimal settings.
I think it’s fine as it is.
EOTM is really fun to play and beautiful to look at.
My framerate is suffering a bit from it however, but it may have been because the maps were full. Can we expect performance improvements?
Anyway, even through we complain about a lot of little details (like class balance) when it comes to this new large-content release the Anet team has done an amazing job.
TY!
So when can we expect it to work? My guild has been waiting for hours…
They scrapped a very nice set and replaced it with another one that is also nice. Why not just give us the choice between both sets, or sell that one separately? After all we paid for it so what’s the big scandal? Sell both sets on the store, and the old light Flamekissed only for humans.
At least for humans we should be able to use the improved Flamekissed version of the cultural version.
The glow is nice, but the fluffy design, robe with tail and transparent chest piece are not to my taste at all.
Asked for a refund. Pretty mad I’ll have to go back to the armor I had 3 months ago. I would have prefer having the choice to keep what I paid for.
Well I want a refund.
That chest piece is horrible.
Who do you contact to get a refund?
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
Huh no please. I crit 2k with lightning Flash and I use it in burst with air attunement for a 4k+ crit potential. It doesn’t do “minor” damage. In other words, you may use it as a get away card, but I use it for offensive – often with Fire 4 (staff) combo.
You have to BUILD for it to do that damage, that is fine. I see no problem with making something stronger when it COSTS you doing so. 2k damage every 40 seconds….Oh SO much damage!
What do you mean every 40 seconds? It’s more like every 4-5 seconds with Fresh Air.
The ele isn’t in such a bad state seriously. Mine is running around with 20k hp (21500+ with guard defense stacks ) and meteors crit between 6-10k with tornado, and I have about 1700 toughness. A single well placed meteor shower will globally do over 50k dmg agains’t people who fail to dodge, I made the sum out of my combat log yesterday.
We just needs a few buffs to the useless traits.
Near 100% of the people who played an elementalist think that the RTL nerf was a gigantic error by anet and they they can’t be all wrong of course.
It created huge problems in gameplay, image for example:
You use RTL in combat, it glitches against some invisible wall or strange terrain angle, goes on 40 sec cooldown (or something like that), attune to other attunements and continue your battle, eventually go back to air out cast your blind and lightning bolt, realize all your attunement are on recharge, your about to die, still 15 sec left on RTL.
Happens to me every day and I use the staff mostly. If I was a d/d player I would feel much worse about it. That broke the survival of the d/d ele (That’s actually the moment when I stopped playing d/d as much as staff).
Mist form healing nerf broke the survival of the berserker staff ele. But the staff eles tried to fix this with the new Guard Defense boons.
Both happened in the same nerf patch. There is not enough kittens in the world to represent what I think about these decisions. For some reason Anet have been stubborn on the idea that RTL must not be fun to use like it used to be, that you must use travellers runes instead and that it can no longer equivalent to staff swiftness, even if daggers actually requires you to go close combat with foes that have twice your HP. Therefore they placed the ele into the gigantic problematic of having to use 2 sets of runes, one for daggers and one for daggers/scepter.
The armor of earth buff is the only thing that makes sense in the next balance patch… (Waiting 90 seconds when a warrior is stunning you every 5 seconds was a long time to run around fences in circles… )
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
Lets compare them:
Lightening Flash: 40 second cool down, 900 range, deals damage
Blink: 30 second cool down, 900range and stun breakPersonally i would take the stun break and lower cool down over a little bit of damage, no stun break and a longer cool down myself, don’t know anyone else though.
Huh no please. I crit 2k with lightning Flash and I use it in burst with air attunement for a 4k+ crit potential. It doesn’t do “minor” damage. In other words, you may use it as a get away card, but I use it for offensive – often with Fire 4 (staff) combo.

ENTIRE GAME REVOLVES AROUND MELEE:
All the group buffs in the game are 600m or less on average. There are very few targeted area heals. Players are encouraged simply to stand next to each other and stack heavy boon classes (warrior/guardian) to achieve near godlike status. The gameplay does not promote any kind of strategic positioning. In fact, positioning barely matters at all in Guildwars 2 unless your ranged and out of the “god” temple of your companions. Then you are told you are playing wrong.
This just leads to a boring dynamic that encourages stacking and button mashing with very little strategy or teamplay.
Your 100% right there. There are no targetable healing skills. The stacking will only be worse once they nerf critical damage.
You should give an ascended chest at every 100 ranks instead of placing more faith into randomness. Random does not make a game feel rewarding. It makes no sense when your rank 500 and you have the same rewards than at rank 1.
If you want to bring tension to WvW give elementalists a new elite skills that let them carry 2 staves and blast people to a 4000 range.
Ele was destroyed when they messed up our, aoe dmg, healing, mist form and RTL.
It still works however, its just not as fun to play.
Not you cant do kitten when in mist form and will die from conditions without being able to do nothing about it. They called it a “fix”.
Mist form has a long cooldown because you could heal in it, use abilities and had stability. They removed all those cool functionality from it and didn’t fix the cooldown.
Typical way the elementalist is balanced in this game. Now they are supposedly trying to help us survive with the next patch while they are the one that broke it in the first place. They could just undo the useless nerfs instead.
From my perspective there are 2 facets to this problem:
1- The ele skills are too long to cast, and it is near impossible to fight a thief because in the time it takes to cast our strongest skill (that do less damage than a backstab) the thief will have done 20k dmg.The ele class needs buff to survive in 1 vs 1, but the trait lines are half broken, so there is little hope there.
2- Berserker thief are slightly overpowered, not because of the damage they do, but because of the speed at which they do it. Their stealth mechanic is ok in my opinion (I levelled a thief to 80 just to understand why they were always killing me).
Also just one backstab is fine as it is, the problem is dealing with a backstab every 5 seconds. The thief backstab should require more initiative if it succeeded the previous time.
Wait, didn’t I just link a video of an elementalist bursting down people at the same rate as thieves do?
Burning speed + arcane blast + arcane wave takes 3/4 seconds, while CnD + backstab takes 1/2 + 1/4 seconds (not including aftercast delays), in other words the exact same time it takes elementalists to pull off their combo. So, how is it thief burst that’s too fast?
As for dealing with backstabs every 5 seconds, that’s sustained damage more than anything else, which I do agree is probably a little too strong, keeping in mind the amount of survivability that comes with it. But if it’s fast burst you’re worried about, the fight should be over by that 5 second mark anyway
EDIT: Elementalist burst is about landing several simultaneous smaller hits more than anything else, but have you ever tried Churning earth?

The part you might find interesting is at 1:35
This videos date from before all the elementalists nerfs. And they are selected clips against upscales from a build that has 12k hp. It’s no reference.
Roll a staff ele, become a pro with it and do some 1 vs 1 vs some pro thief. You’ll have a less than 1% chance of winning and a 33% chance of getting away.
Anet completely messed up the balance of the staff ele in 1 vs 1 because all the spells are freaking slow to cast. BTW we cant switch to daggers when we see a thief, we have no weapon swap.
Counter Suggestion: Swap Weapons in Combat
It has also been argumented time and time again why in-combat swapping wouldn’t be a good idea.
The opposite is also true.
Didn’t spend months crafting celestial gear charging crystals just to have the pieces nerfed and double clicked on 1 months later to finally set it to berserker.
Even having the choice to set it back for another set will not change the fact that celestial will no longer be what is was nor give us our time back.
I stated this during the Ready Up livestream earlier today, but I’ll repeat it again here.
While we are releasing new story related content with the Edge of the Mists update, very little of that content actually occurs inside of the EotM map. Hopefully that alleviates some of your concerns!
I am a PvE player and I have been following the LS with great interest- if I wanted to WvW I would be doing that.
I really hope this statement means that I won’t be sitting this one out.
There is no way that I will be running around a WvW map for PvE story so that some kitten can get his jollies by killing me
lol wow, so that’s the train of thought of the pve community? Flabbergasted!
Anet is almost always achieving the opposite of what their intention was when they do a balance patch.
When they nerfed the bunker ele and RTL/Mist Form they forced all eles to spend more points in water.
On this new patch it will be the same, I will ask for a refund for all my celestial gear and replace it with berserker gear.
I’m going to love this update that’s for sure, finally new WvW content. I really don’t understand these people that don’t do PvP or WvW. The real test of skill comes form PvP and WvW.
They need to resesign the keeps and towers into something more interesting strategically. But I have little hope they will do that considering the time it took to get EOTM out and how they can design beautiful areas like the borderlands ruin and have the gameplay in that area as an afterthought.
Rank 405 and never got anything better than 2 yellows. You would think that turning 400 could somehow increase your chance, but apparently its all random like the lottery.
It’s an overflow like any other. You should be able to join on friends. Not that that’s 100% perfect, but it does mean that groups, particularly smaller groups, are more likely to get on the same server.
Incorrect.
EotM functions like the mini-games. You get placed in a random overflow and you can not join on your group mates.
Well this is something they should have fixed a long time ago.
Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO in history that does not let you play mini-games (like South Sun survival) with your friends.
From my perspective there are 2 facets to this problem:

I wanted to stop by and say thanks for the feedback. We do feel that the celestial stat set will be hit the hardest with the upcoming critical damage changes, so we are looking at possibly boosting the overall stats by a small amount.
Also the celestial stat set in PvP is using a much lower stat multipliers than the PvE versions so we will be looking at changing this as well. Nothing is set in stone, but I wanted to let guys know this is something we are discussing.
Thank you for your message,
The problem has to do with damage.
I (we) don’t want more of all stats. I choose celestial specially because even if it gives you a bit of all stats the critical damage was equivalent to another set. My entire build is built around that.
Whats the point of having all stats if you cannot do enough damage (that was clearly the initial thought of the person who designed the celestial set – and that person was correct in it’s assumption that increasing one of the offensive stats was needed to compensate the extreme low damage)
After all, weren’t you supposed to nerf berserkers damage builds? The celestial set is already a low damage set, why nerf it?
There are only 2 good solution in my opinion:
1- Keep the Ferocity stats equivalent to the previous critical damage stat (more than the other stats)
2- Increase the Power stats on celestial items to match a value equivalent to the previous critical value
I am against the idea to flatten all the stats, and I will request a refund for the Dwayna celestial backpiece I made in part converting gems I bought to gold if you decide to go in that direction.
(edited by Xillllix.3485)
kitten , so now I’ll have to change all my celestial armor, because there is ONLY 1 reason I got that kitten, and it’s because it had the same crits as berserkers while balancing the other stats.
Now it will just be totally flat stats? Not interested, I want a refund.
They could have buffed all the useless traits instead and made something out of this patch that would have been appreciated by all elementalists instead of only those who do not use a staff.
I got the armor as well and I would like to know what will happen with it, as I bought gems for it.
