Hi,
I like most of the changes in this new patch beside the celestial gear damage nerf.

I got celestial gear specifically because it could keep my criticals high and flatten the other stats. Now with the new gear I will lost way more than 10% crit damage, it’s more like a 35% crit damage lost.

It’s terrible for some of us, after spending literally months finding the gold and laurels to craft this stuff to have all our stats celestial items flatten out. I’ve even spent real money on the gem store to speed up the process of making the ascended armor.

I mean this is serious: some of us have more than 1 character with celestial ascended gear.

What is 6% compensation anyway for a stat on an helm, like 2 points? That is useless in comparison to keeping your crit damage up. Maybe 15% would have made a difference but 6%?

Anyway I expect that once the patch is release we will be able to doubleclick on the celestial armors and trinkets and choose the stats we want. That would be the very least of things considering we have to remake our entire builds, sometimes for many characters.

It’s not op, everyone other class is getting a damage increase except eles. We will just die slower perhaps thanks to the blindness.

The new traits are ok, but in comparison to the other classes they are really not as good.
Guardian gets 300 more vitality…. we get 3sec protection on a 10sec cooldown…
Guardians get 33% increased fire damage, we get a lightning strike on an interrupt.

Once more the Ele is just made more complicated to play for less reward.

Who the hell would use this instead of Fresh Air which will give you much more lightning bolts?

Earth and Fire are pretty good traits (I would have preferred a Meteor shower smoke fields trait instead of blindness on burn)

Water: Won’t help with the main survival problem of the ele which is 1 vs 1 fights.

I think the change to traits is a terrific idea.
However, like most people, all my characters slots are level 80s with all skills unlocked already. So this isn’t really new content for what concerned people like me, it’s an improvement for new players to make the PvE world more enjoyable.

I have nothing against this but there should be 50 new skills released with this that are for level 80 characters.

Hey thanks for the reply everyone, I only wanted to get this discussion going and have people reflect upon the possibilities.

The mods would:
1- Function outside the main world economy (no rewards besides those that only work within the mod)
2- Would take place outside the main PvE story.
3- Could work in a similar fashion to the steam workshop, where content must first be approved by Anet.
4- About modding for a MMO environment. Well, Anet isn’t really an MMO. Everything is instanced, there is no monthly fee. I really don’t see the difficulty in adding a new WvW map to the dropdown menu. Anet could then have a WvW map contest for example and the winning map could be included to the rotation as they wish.

Why doesn’t Anet open GW2 to modders? We could have many new custom maps in the WvW rotation, new PvP maps, jumping puzzles and new PvE areas at a difficulty level players are ready to face.

All we would require are modding tools and a system that could let us plug our content on a world map overflow. The content would then be flowing, so would the money.

Well, it does sound a bit harsh but I don’t blame the OP. Since EOTM no significant content was added, and EOTM was implemented in a way that does not reward players (no PPT, has no impact on score).

I cannot imagine what Anet is thinking, maybe they have an expansion coming out soon, but at the moment keeping long-term players doesn’t seem to be their main preoccupation. Many people in my guild already left…

Orr was at its best when people were farming champs in events, before the nerf. It felt alive, there were tons of players all over the place. Now it’s empty, beside for people doing map completion or temples.

The short answer is yes, not a good moment because of how unbalanced the matchups are. But Anet seems to think the achievements will be enough to bring players back in WvW.

Personally I will very rarely play in it unless they fix the server population and PPT issues discussed on this forum.

Remember those nice mathematical curves they showed us before doing the change?

Well back then I said “This will not work, we’ll get he same matchup over and over”.
Then the developers came to explain (not a real quote): “You don’t understand, we have this super nice mathematical curve formula look how sophisticated it is, blablabla”

I tried to overcome my skepticism and imagined that I was supposed to feel impressed.

The Point Is: Relying on a mathematical formula to organize matchups is like asking a toaster to organize the Olympics.

Bad idea.

GvG in GW1: That was a GOOD IDEA. It worked, it was balanced, and it was fun.

Its more on the lines the players are killing wvw. Games that are RvRvR live off of players competitive ways. If the players do not have pride in there world or there realm then there is no point in RvRvR in the first places.

Agreed. There is no server identity anymore. Most (not all) wvw guilds are responsible for causing the rift between player and server identity. There are not many guilds that have actually stayed on their server from day one without transferring. Most guilds are just looking for fights rather than ppt, which is really hurting some servers as well as the community. WvW is for fighting against other servers to see who can win by PPT, not kills. I really wish Anet would make a guild arena where guilds could match up with other guilds from other servers to fight (kinda like LFG); I bet you it will reduce the amount of massive server transfers (and transfers overall) we have seen lately.

It should never have been about servers in the first place. It should have been about guilds. Everything in this game should be about guilds.

There could be 3 main alliances and a guild could only represent one of these 3 alliances. Let’s scrap the server system.

Well now that the EOTM commentary thread has close I’m not sure what to think about the future of this game. If you read between the lines of the last post by Devon he pretty much say that they are afraid to do drastic changes to WvW. From my perspective WvW needs drastic changes to keep me interested.

Yesterday on Reset night SBI was literally spawn camped by a zerg of 60. We’ve been in the same unfair matchup for over a month. Nobody care anymore, “boring” is the term that came up the most often.

I wished this game could be set back on track with all the amazing contributions of players on this forum and some new content form the great artists at Anet, but right now I do not foresee this happening before the end of summer.

I’ve got plenty from this game for my money, or maybe not that much considering the sum of money I wasted on Gem store (not recently)…

Anyway I’ve simplified the decision for myself: unless Anet announces a GvG mode I’m going to the new big thing.

As a staff ele I dont even use the auto attacks (besides chain-lightning very rarely). I consider them COMPLETELY useless.

From what has been mentioned I don’t think we will get much WvW content in the feature release, not even a scoring system fix. I would be pleasantly surprised if we get more WvW content before season 2 is over.

Anet is probably working on GW3 judging on the lack of content release and the lack of coming expansions.

1- I learned patience.; Because you can wait 6 months for a map and when it comes out the scores on that map won’t matter.

Next thing you know your guild break apart because WvW got too predictable, your server WvW is empty, and all that’s left to do is wait more for things to get fixed.

2- I learned that the staff ele handicap versus a thief will never get fixed.

Thieves are fine, even if a good thief is annoying as hell.

The problem is the super slow skills of the staff ele and the bad AI of ranger’s pet.

Thanks for the insight Devon.

Firstly, something that I’ve seen in more than one proposal and something that we just can’t do in our game, is the idea of consolidating maps or making larger maps. It is a problem on multiple fronts, but the most obvious issue is that we simply can’t fit more players onto a map than we already have, so even if we were to make a larger map, we couldn’t have a corresponding increase in the number of players on that map. Proposals that rely on that idea are simply untenable.

I think there’s something to be said for increasing map size without having a corresponding increase in player population. Greater distance between objectives and less options to traverse that distance quickly (WPs) puts more emphasis on larger groups being aware of where they are, and where the enemy is… Since it will take more time to reach an objective to defend or assault it. Of course you do run the risk of making the map “feel” empty, but there could be some merit to the idea from a gameplay and tactical sense.

In any case, I agree with the idea that more specific changes to the maps are a better place to start. Unique terrain, like that tower before a narrow canyon, can influence fights in such drastic ways. It really makes everything so much more interesting.

It needs choke points guarded by towers, like in EOTM, instead of flat huge surfaces like the BL maps. What makes EOTM so much better is that it also is vertical. Changing the BL terrain (removing the flatness of it) and adding forts would be a good starts.

Lol 2400 gems for a server transfer + 2 week ban from the maps. Did anet forget some dailies are impossible to do on the eotm map?

This is ridiculous considering there is a lack of players in WvW. How is this going to help the game? If you ban me for 2 weeks from WvW I’ll probably never come back (unless you add a GvG game mode).

The way I can see it if the feature patch provides us with good WvW improvements it might save this game, if it stays as bland as it is, with a new map that doesn’t even matter for the score, then many of us will say our goodbyes.

I expressed my disappointment 1 week after buying this game at the lack of GvG and explained that I didn’t see how this game could survive without keeping one of the most important feature of GW1. I think I was right, WvW seems unmanageable with the current server vs server formula. Everything seem useless, PPT is always the same, stomping someone has no impact really on a weekly score, ETOM serves no purpose besides being a beautiful map, endless immobilize breaks the gameplay as well as getting stuck in landscape, class imbalance (Staff Ele is like playing an “Insane” mode) . It all has to be re-imagined, and it probably wont, so I’ll give ESO a 3-months try.

For the first time now I didn’t play GW2 in over a week (went from like 15-20 hours a week to 1-2 hours a week).

Lesson 1, on using Churning Earth:

1- Make sure you have Lightning Flash and Armor of Earth ready
2- Cast Armor of Earth
3- Cast Churning Earth
4- Lightning Flash on your enemy 1 sec before it ends

Otherwise: Don’t use it.

Lightning flash is full of bugs and Anet doesn’t seem to be willing to fix it.

- It doesn’t work on half the stairs or terrain at angles and it never never works on bridges.
- There is a hidden bonus to it, 5% chance to get stuck in the terrain and be unable to move.
- When there is the slightest bit of lag it teleports you behind where you would have been if you just walked there.
Already the ele is the hardest class to play we would appreciate it if at least our super slow skills would work.

Same with Meteor Shower, had to believe they will dare add a red circle to it before fixing it (often it doesn’t hit an enemy right under it)

This game can only survive if it focuses on the Guild content:

1- Guild versus Guild game mode
2- Guild ranking system for WvW
3- Guild focused matchup system (Guild pledge allegiance to protect one of three alliance)
3- More Guild Missions, Puzzles, etc
4- Guild Quests on PvE map
5- Guild Halls

Without this the game will keep losing it’s original players for PvP game modes AND PvE.

This game is Guild Wars 2 not Server Wars 2, we can sacrifice server pride if we replace it with guild alliance pride.

I believe that most everything that is needed to make WvW enjoyable on the long term has been said in this thread, from the changes in the server matchup to alliances to SM choke points, new traps, guard escort, and so on.

If it has not been done after this much time either Anet does not have enough dedicated designers and programmers for WvW or have been preparing something big (like an expansion) and have been keeping it quiet.

None the less, most of us have had probably near 250-500+ hours of fun with this game so it’s not as if we didn’t get enough for our money. Like many players I will blindly move to the next big game, not because it may have the greatest combat system (apparently it doesn’t), but because I have a thirst for something new, to explore a new world and meet new people in WvW type PvP.

Meanwhile GW2 seems stalled, WvW is losing its population, our suggestions are apparently heard but it takes months for decisions to be taken. Even at reset night it’s either hard to find a challenge or you get swarmed and are totally outnumbered. The PvE world didn’t get a new area to explore since Southsun. The Living Story is more like a farming party and GvG is still something we are supposed we are supposed to have forgotten since GW1.

My respect to everyone who made this fine game still despite my seemingly negative comments I’ve had mad fun with GW2.

Most of the WvW guilds left SBI. Last night at 2am east there was less than a dozen people covering all 4 maps and we had only camps in our BL.

Well hopefully something be done soon to improve WvW, because last night at 2am East on SBI we had less than 12 people covering the 4 WvW maps. I was alone in our borderland and we had 10 max in EB.

Anyway, how can you not want to transfer to a higher tier in these conditions?

Is Anet ever going to cap immobilization stacks to something like 5 seconds?

Being unable to move for 15 sec when your fighting 1 vs 3 is far from pleasant.
Am I wrong to think that when a player cannot move for over 15 seconds in a video game something could be wrong with the gameplay?

It used to be somewhere around that, till one clever guy at anets office thought it would be a nice idea to make it stack, so they did, can put on stability but still getting immobilized, fun fun.

hurg yeah I forgot about that. Terrible idea to make it so that a skill in a game can prevent another player from playing it for such a long extent.

As an aside, I just wanted to call out the posts from Matipzieu KyA, which are incredibly detailed and well-thought out. We really appreciate the passion and dedication that it takes to go to those lengths. We are reading them and looking closely at the things contained within.

Well in turn we thank you for this opportunity to collaborate with the developers and on my part I hope that some of the easiest improvements can be implemented before the next WvW season.

One thing that hasn’t been mentioned:

How about having capture points where the npcs can provide you with special traps?
There is certainly potential in the trap idea, as some new traps could play a major role in the defence of keeps, towers and SM.

The Ruins are great artistic but poorly implemented.

It looks beautiful, but it’s completely useless. It needs objectives worth taking that are move than stats modifiers but have an impact on the gameplay.

I think concerning Alliances that Anet should take a step back and consider the theme of their game. It’s called Guild Wars, not Server Wars for a reason.

PROPOSITION:
How about having Guilds join a particular Alliance, and make it a prerequisite to be in a guild for WvW, as well as making it so that you may only represent 1 guild in WvW.

These 3 Alliances for WvW would have nothing to do with the PvE population which could be adjusted independently. They could have leader-boards for the participating guilds, which would earn points for their participation.

This way you could have competing guilds on the same server, which could be a first step toward a Guild vs Guild game mode and open world battles between these alliances (on a dedicated WvW PvE open world overflow for the 3 alliances).

Now please realize that this would be amazing and get people to work on it!

Map improvements in EB and the Borderlands is also an important. Giving each of the Alliance in EB a specific boon for their territory like EOTM would be a good first step, along with removing the Doyak escorts, redesigning the PvE mobs for each areas and finally upgrading SM to something more epic.

I think we should only have 1 borderland map, in which alliances take turns defending.
There is still much wasted space on that map and it also need some improvements, including something more than a simple boon in the ruins.

Some classes can’t take Melandru runes without destroying the little balance they have left. It is a way to get around the problem but it doesn’t fix the problem. Anyway, thanks for the inputs.

Interesting, I hadn’t considered using the 3 of 5 system there. Do you think that would really force groups to fight it out or would people just turtle up to prevent capture?

Like i stated in my post the attackers should hold at least 2 of all the capture points in order to capture stonemist.

The general idea is to divide the attacking and defending zerg to smaller groups providing for smart plays using variety of new tactics instead of zerging the lord room.

I think that there should be few capture chambers at outter courtyard and 1 at current lord location.

(i’m providing a map with possible new capture chamber locations)

The redesigned fight should happen at all 3 levels inside SM, not just at lord room. This would make for some much more interesting strategy. Perhaps the control points in the courtyard could give certain advantage (like controlling the 3 areas of a EOTM side).
