Why would anyone WANT to close the official Matchup forum and then delete the post of everyone not happy about that decision?

Just my opinion here, a bit late because I was caught unaware by this.
Anet explanation for it’s decision to close the WvW matchup thread because of a few trolls does not convince me that it was the right decision to take.
In a modern society you do not punish the entire group for the deeds of a few. I could be wrong, but that has been considered ethically wrong since before the declaration of human rights. Agreed, you can consider the matchup thread a privilege instead of a right. But one certainty is that free speech is an absolute right with the exception of hate speech, which is why a structure of ratings and age restrictions exists and censorship has been associated with power structures you most probably do not want to imitate.
Trolling isn’t a crime, it is merely an annoyance. It seems to me that the decision to close the matchup thread was not made in light of the principles of argumentation, with its compound of positives and negatives but instead was based on an instinct for control over a public image.
Yeah they broke the mini map in the last patch.
And on a side note my favourite area of the forum is gone.
You would expect better than that from Anet.
It’s their product so they can do whatever they want. If you don’t want to buy it just don’t buy it, or move on to another game.
Are you sure it’s hard enough to play an ele? They sure didn’t seem to think so when they gave us this new “healing skill” that doesn’t heal much unless you damage 5 targets, for which it will heal 20% more per target if they don’t block your heal, which in turn will then heal more but only if you manage to cast a water field under yourself before and don’t get interrupted in the 1 sec long cast time.
I mean Arcane Brilliance (or whatever it’s called) should win an award for the most uselessly complicated healing skill in a video game. I’m quite sure they will look at it in a few months and wonder why they implemented such a complicated healing skill for the most complicated class to play.

This may be a bit selfish and unreasonable, but I’ve had this idea lately that they should allow the Elementalist to have more trait points than the other classes(professions). Maybe like 5 or 10 more. I always feel like my build is incomplete in some way. For example I have this really good vulnerability build and it literally needs 5 more trait points to be perfect. I feel like a lot of the builds for the Elementalist are like this. For most builds, you would need around 5 or 10 trait points to get that last buff in the trait line that would just be the icing on the cake. I figured I’d just throw this out there. haha.
But I’m not sure if I think it would even the playing field or if I’m just being biased towards the Elementalist.
The problem aren’t the amount of points, but the lack of good traits and basic class mechanic that compensate for our attunement swaping.
Why isn’t earthen Blast a blast finisher? It says “Blast” in the name.
Why are some traits totally useless? (10% chance on crit to do burning for a few sec… wtf?)
Why vigor and regen on cantrips and elemental attunement were moved to the master tier?
Why we can no longer heal in mist form?
Why our cd for RTL has been increase to 40 sec so you attune to air and can’t even use it and the range has been reduced?
Why does it takes 2 seconds with lag to throw a fireball with our auto attack that will miss the target…
Oh gosh, so there is where it went!

They’ve nerfed mist form so much already.
Ele can be amazing in WvW/PvP but you need 3 things:
1: Fully ascended gear
2: A carefully crafted build that has to do with your playstyle
3: Skill and freaking fast fingers
Sure it must have been mentioned but this must be a joke, Lol.
Grand Master minor trait Arcane Precision.
Skills have a chance to apply a condition on critical hits.
Chance on critical hit: 10%Fire Attunement: Burning 1 s (328 damage)
Water Attunement: Vulnerability 10 s
Air Attunement: Weakness 3 s
Earth Attunement: Bleeding 5 s (213 damage)Maybe they made a mistake and it supposed to be 10% chance per attack…….sounds pretty weak for a grand master minor.
With 50% crit chance it would process 5 times every 100 attacks.
Apparently it’s just easier to move traits around randomly (and break good builds) than to fix the useless ones.
Same thing just happened to my party, that fractal is broken.
Chain Lightning should be upgraded with a trait to 5 opponents and have a slower cast time (like all auto-attacks). Surge is kinda ok but should apply vulnerability as well, with a air trait perhaps. Gust is too slow and unprecise. Static Field is fine.
This game isn’t balanced for 1 vs 1. It’s pretty much the opposite of every other games, where they balance the classes in 1 vs 1 before doing the WvW stuff.
I mean seriously, try a 1 vs 1 staff ele vs thief or warrior. There is like a 0.05% chance that the ele win. I can understand the concept of imbalanced classes, but not to that extent.
Staff Elementalist isn’t good at one on one but godly for zerging so I’m not understanding your point? Warrior is useless in one on ones vs good players too and Thieves are not the greatest in zergs.
My point is that no online game should put you in a 1 vs 1 situation where you have absolutely no chance. A certain imbalance is fine, but total imbalance isn’t.
Specially considering that the elementalist doesn’t even have a weapon-swap button and that you thieve are roaming around with permanent invisibility. It’s totally broken balance.
You can walk around with D/D till you get inside the zerg and then switch to staff.
Or they could fix the game balance…

- Reduce the HP differences between Light-Medium and Heavy classes.
Guardians are a heavy class. Don’t be facetious.
OK well my bad, anyway what I’m saying is that they have to scale the aoe limit so that light class have an advantage somewhere else than in the support and dying department.
increase the aoe limit for light classes somewhat proportionally to their lower health pool.
You’ve said this twice now.
Don’t post again until you’ve gone to check what a guardian’s health pool is, and compared it to all 3 light classes.

Huh did I say something against guardians? I’m all in favour of increasing aoe limit for guardian as well!
Removing or increasing the aoe limit would force people to use strategy instead of stacking like a blob. It would make the battles seem more epic and fix a number of current issues that occur with stacking (perma stun, perma heal, battles where only the numbers determine the winner instead of the most skilled, etc).
I proposed in another thread that it be proportional to the class armor type.
Heavy armor: aoe limit: 5
Medium armor: aoe limit: 7
Light armor: aoe limit: 10
That would be a good place to start… 5-10-15 could be more interesting however.
It’s a problem, but it’s not the biggest problem they have with WvW.
1- “Stack here, Stack here, Stack Stack Stack” is their biggest problem and the game breaking issue and it won’t be fixed until they increase the aoe limit for light classes somewhat proportionally to their lower health pool.
It’s gonna re-balance the game and stop the stupid stacking which makes Meteor showers and other aoe spells useless against big stacking zergs.
2- Second biggest problem, rally on death of any creature or low level characters. They need to stop the rallying unless your actually resurrected by a teammate.
I still wonder why they nerfed the damage instead of the stun… Anyway they could nerf both.
- Increasing Aoe limit to 10 or 15 for light classes would be a way to stop the perma WvW stacking
- Increase Meteor Shower damage by 25-33% would be another
- Reduce the HP differences between Light-Medium and Heavy classes.
- Stun Shield aoe skill for Guardians would be nice but then why would commanders use any other classes?
I love ele’s design, but in my opinion somthing have to be changed.
When hey they moved (nerfed) Elemental attunement and Soothing mist to master tier after our thousand of post (and many of us asking specifically that they do not go ahead with that idea) I lost all confidence that the elementalist issues would get fixed.
They destroyed my build (10/15/0/15/30 – need 20 points in water now for soothing mist) and then tell us it’s for the sake of build variety? It’s been a month now and I’m still trying to find a good build. And the 2 latest traits; Diamond skin, Super speed and the latest heal skill *arcane heal) are all useless in WvW.
I think there would be problems with the landscape engine. It is not very good at collision detection thus the tank would get stuck in a variety of places and corners

Don’t be too harsh on Anet, they’ve delivered a great game and are daring to try something new.
GW2 ultimately has some flaws, the beautiful PvE world feels empty once you have repeated the dungeons a few times (it lacks reasons to explore), WvW is too repetitive also, lacks content and the GvG mode and Guild Halls are missing.
They have made some great and unexpected content (like SAB) which for some marketing decision keeps getting removed from the game.
What I hope for is an PvE world expansion with the addition of GvG and the return of all the content that was removed.
I can’t understand why Anet removes the content before we get to play it considering how little content they are able to deliver in December and January. I also missed the Fractured story event.
I loaded the game today, did my daily for Ascended armor recipe went 30 minutes for some WvW that ended up being a Karma train zerg (boring). Went to LA and spoke about 1h with my guild-mates, then logged off. It’s been the same since that tower LS event started months ago, nothing really interesting to do because WvW is so repetitive now… All they’ve added in the last months to WvW are those useless do not touch pillars.
It’s Christmas and we can’t even go in SAB or revisit past LS events. We still can’t even play Sanctum races or Southsun survival with friends. Anyway I didn’t want to complain… It’s a great game, but removing content when you can only deliver a limited amount of it already is a very bad idea.
Ya, but I don’t want to add to the negativity. My guild is the only thing keeping me playing at the moment and I’m looking forward to some GvG in early 2014 and the new Edge of the Mist map.
Some of the request here show a lack of understanding of how the ele works…
Armor of earth- CD reduction to 70s. Lasts 7s.
I would prefer having a second skill giving stability
Arcane shield- Cd reduction to 50s, change functionality. Lasts 2s, blocks all attacks for 2s. After 2s, it explodes (just how it did before). Blast finisher. Still breaks stun.
Uncontrollable blast finisher, bad idea, why would we want that?
Lightning Flash- CD reduction to 20s ( or atleast something reasonably lower)
Bad idea, that’s totally OP. It’s fine as it is as it potentially give regen, vigor and might.
Mist form- Condis stop doing damage while invuln, but arent removed due to this. when the invuln is over, condis start to hurt again.
That one is ok, or they can just unerf mist form and let us heal in it like before
Every conjure except for FGS- Reduced CD to 20s.
Why? they suck anyway except frost bow and it would be OP for the frost bow
Cleansing fire- increased cd to 60s. Removes all condis.

Once everyone gets back from holiday vacation we’ll be posting up our proposed balance changes and we’ll go from there.
Moving Soothing Mist or Elemental Attunement to the Master tiers didn’t help the elementalist. And the new healing skill? Why make something so complicated to use for a class already bothered with more complex combos than every other classes?
If you really wan’t to help the ele and promote build diversity:
1- Reduce the ele skill lag, 1 sec lag for an auto attack on staff is too much. Increase the projectile speed. Change the Staff-Water first attack (auto attack) which nobody uses.
2- Eruption should be fast enough to blast a field skill used before it instead of having to use Eruption before casting the field.
3- Make the Earthen Blast Trait be a blast finisher, this will make the Earth trait line interesting
4- Air: Super Speed Trait has to do something noticeable (5 seconds or out of combat)
5- Make our Elite summons faster, more powerful and last more than 60 seconds
6- Elemental attunement Trait should give 3 stacks of might when attuning to fire instead of 1.
7- Make the fire trait line have some defensive utility…
Grand Master Fire trait: Meteor Showers are now smoke fields
8- Add an Offensive Water grandmaster Trait: Ice Spike now freeze your opponent on critical hits

Personally I wont be playing WvW much until the Edge map comes out and it seems I’m not the only one, my server score reflects this disinterest, we are playing against 2 interesting servers and the larger fights in like in the early-season are almost non-existant beside on reset nights.
When hardcore WvWers prefer to do Fractals or PvP duels you know WvW is in a bad spot.
There is nothing equalling the felling of using tornado and watching 5 enemies from a zerg falling down a bridge in an outnumbered situation. Tornado ftw.

lol We complain a lot, a lot of questionable decisions have been taken in what regards the ele nerfs and such, but don’t be so dramatic: The class still can kick kitten in some situations. Not in 1 vs 1 granted, there we are pretty much assured to die, but in zerg battles the ele can do massive damage.
The unbalanced aspect of it is that it’s almost impossible to play the ele in WvW without full ascended gear and a good build with maximized stats. While with other class you can beat the ele with just average gear.
You have to wonder why they would delay skills on the ele by one seconds (like fireball) when in a zerg battle there is already a 1 sec lag in the game.
It makes the game seems totally clumsy and unresponsive, as you see number on the screen always having to do with something you’ve done a few seconds before, while you are doing other stuff that will also get delayed.
Playing an ele feels like playing with lag.
Its certainly easier to see now.
Lack of new content is the problem…
Even with the new map, they need new siege, new traps, new rewards, better balance, and an update to the old maps.
1- Add GvG and Guild Halls
2- Focus on the world map expansion for PvE
Why can’t we have a public beta (optional) of this for the vacation? Instead of being without a season and without new competitive content.
I mean giant pillars labelled “Do not touch” left there for a month aren’t my idea of new competitive content for the holliday…

Waiting for the new WvW map… That and GvG if they ever get to it is all that can keep my interest unless they come up with super hard explorable areas like GW1.
I’ve been doing fractals in the meanwhile thinking that I could perhaps get some ascended armor piece drop, but no drop in 15 runs of those.
All my staff fields + all my earth finishers… I need to change my pants.
Weapon swap has a cooldown, on all classes.
Downstate = No problem
Getting back up in PvP/WvW when some level 5 squishy of the opposing zerg dies = Problem
They broke my might/cantrip build and I went back to my old fresh air build. Nothing new there…
We initially had one, and a good one too.
Water would do an AOE chill, Fire would burn targets, Air would periodically strike targets, and I can’t remember earth (I think it was increased defense).
The removed it doing something in favor of spending trait points.
And I have no Idea why they thought this was good change.

The reason why Anet decided that the ele is too good to deserve a weapon swap is beyond my understanding… (Why do I have the feeling I have said that before?.. like 1 year ago)

Could you perhaps link this build, particulary the armor and runes? I’m trying to think through a good, balanced staff elementalist build for WvW, and it appears you may have nailed it.

I disagree, you have a great build there… It’s great at a surviving AND contributing to the damage instead of just kiting for bags and placing fields.
I prefer 30 in air to the sacrifice of evasive arcana and your water 30 condi removal, because Eather Renewal removes plenty of conditions. With fresh air I get perma swiftness lingering in battle and that extra bolt crit every time I crit in another attunement. With 10% more crit damage and 4% extra chance I run at 44/104% crit: that bolt hits for 2500dmg. Considering I have near perma fury my crits are the equivalent of 64/104% (I always have fury swapping attunements).
As they say, sometimes offence is the best defence. I like that when I cast my nukes I see people move. Otherwise why play an ele?

Going full celestial is a mistake. You get more stats but you are losing power.
Using a few celestial pieces for trinkets or armor can work very well however.
It’s the overall stats that count anyway. Doesn’t matter what the stats on the armor are, what matter is the sum of your stats after when you mix it with trinkets.
This is why a legendary weapon is so great: change your build to a more offensive one then change your staff to vitality/toughness to balance the stats, etc.
Im using half berserker/valkyrie armor, defensive/celestial trinkets, offensive build (0/30/0/20/20) and defensive stats on Bifrost.

For staff 0/30/0/20/20 or 0/30/0/30/10 are pretty good builds with good defense.
I would not settle for 0/10/0/30/30, the damage less half that of 30 in air.
pretty sure the ones that don’t explicitly mention an element work in all attunements
Ya but Im talking about the other ones… The one linked to attunements should linger if lingering trait is used.
