Suggested Chrono Changes

Xstein.2187

My suggestions for Chrono changes to go along with the next patch.
Agree, disagree? What are your ideas?

Mesmer/chrono changes for pvp:

1. Add the bounce back to mirror blade. Mes needs a role. What is that role now? I don’t even know. Mes can’t compete with the sustain of thieves anymore after the new patch, even though both will be bursty classes. Therefore, I would like to see mes have a role that gives up almost all sustain damage for burst. However, the burst needs to be high enough to justify giving up all sustain damage. It doesn’t work if thief has just as good of a burst as mesmer and has better sustained damage as well. This would not be balanced.

2. lower the cool down slightly on distortion so that mesmers don’t get completely and utterly kitten d by thieves every time. This is a tuff one. You need to really be careful not to over do it. The goal is to make it so thieves can kill a mes. However, its not a guaranteed kill-in a 1v1 situation. Rather, it is a fair fight where both have a 50% chance of winning if they are equally skilled.

3. Add or update a sigil that guarantees a bit more condi removal. Shatter mes can’t have condi removal unless they take the inspiration trait line, giving up a lot of their damage. This is why even now a lot of shatter mesmers still take dueling and just try not to get hit by condis at all, even though there is the chance they just have to huddle up in a corner to die because they have no decent condi removal (even with a minimal amount of condis on them). Just doesn’t seem fair for any class to be forced to take a trait line to have condi removal. After all, you don’t need to take a trait line to have defense against regular damage. Another suggestion to go along these line, just so we no longer have all our eggs in one basket, is to change up the skill Master of Fragmentation in the illusions line. Make it so distortion, instead of reflecting projectiles, removes a couple on condis. I kinda believe the trait is week the way it is anyway. This would be a nice boost to it and a reason to take it.

Mesmer thoughts and concerns

I highly doubt there are going to be any buffs to mes, at least any that people care about. In the post, they made it sound like there was going to be huge changes to scepter that would change the class. Now I believe they just wanted to add Anything to try to make us feel better or something. Ya, Helseth said today that he was prob going to switch to necro. He didn’t believe that bunker mes would be a thing again and shatter just doesn’t have what it takes to be in the meta. The only role I could picture mes in now is using continuum split, mimic, and portals to move your necro all over the field, basically a portal bot.

Easily because if they are auto attacking us they are standing in our wells playing to our strengths. If you can’t adjust your gameplay to account for a slight increase in thief auto attacks then you need to rethink your strat

I don’t think anyone here thinks increasing thief’s auto attack is going to hurt bunker mesmer. What they are afraid of is that they are going to nerf bunker mesmer until its not meta or useful. They are already taking away its rez power. Additionally, I have seen people complaining on this forum that they need 2 people to take down a bunker mes. I don’t understand how anyone is surprised by this. This is the way its suppose to be. If you are playing bunker mes and can’t hold against 2, then you are hurting your team. You don’t even have close to the dps of other classes like scrappers. This means you can’t capture points. Basically, if they follow the advice of other people in this forum and nerf mes until it can’t hold long agains 2 people, then scrapper and ele will easily take its place because they would then be able to do what the bunker mes could do, only they would be more useful (heals for ele and dps for scrapper (In addition to other buffs these classes may get after the patch)). However, to be honest, I personally don’t care if the nerf bunker mes until ints not meta or useful. In my opinion, its a boring build to play and others don’t like playing against it either. It slows down the game. However, if you take away bunker mes, what build are mesmers going to fall back on? Probably either condition or burst shatter. This is where the problem is. Nerfing alacrity, and perhaps anything else they decide to nerf, will probably not only hurt bunker mesmer, but these builds as well. At the same time, they are going to buff the thief so that it can easily take down zerky/glassy mesmer builds (just like the way they used to in the past), which essentially takes them out of the meta. If they make it so you can’t use elites in continuum split, boooom, all of these builds are dead. This is what I am afraid of at least, that they are not only going to kill bunker mes, but all mes builds. At the same time, conditions are still flying around all over the place. However, the only condi removal traits are in the inspiration line (at least theif has dodge to remove condis). I think both dom/duel/chrono and chaos/illusions/chrono could be very good builds for burst shatter and condi builds. However, I’m not sure they will make it to meta with no condi removal. Based on this, and for the sake of build diversity in other classes), I think it would be nice if they added a sigil that had a little more ummf to condi removal. Just an idea. However, if bunker mes dies, I think future meta mesmer build “X” might need it.

healish/supporty mesmer??

Ya keep chrono
Instead of using mantras to heal, you can also go into domination for Blurred inscriptions, a trait that goes well with inspiring distortion. You can then go Signet of the ether, well of recall, signet of inspiration, and signet of midnight. I would also use phantasmal defender. Your goal would basically be to use your signets and distortion during continuum split to grant your allies distortion. You would then want to time the use of your signets at just right time to protect your allies from attacks that would kill them in one swipe. You would also use well of recall to lower the cool downs of your shatters and signets.

Have I tried this build at all? No, I do not know weather or not it would work well. However, I have been thinking about it since they had that big patch for trait changes before HoT.
Does this build currently have a use? no
Could this build have a use in the future? Potentially. The problem is that other classes can heal better than mesmers or chronos. Therefore, you might as well focus on lowering the cool downs of other classes so that they can heal allies faster instead of directly trying to heal allies. However, this build wouldn’t focus on healing allies but negating damage all together. More specifically, it would negate the single big attacks that could kill with one blow. Maybe in the future there will be a raid boss where this matters and people need distortion to survive. Perhaps this future boss will be immune to blinds and cc. Who knows what the devs will come up with. However, as of right now, I have to agree that heal chrono/mes will not be very useful.

Yap, except its the second one he posted with the chaos line. He uses shield/scepter and sword/torch. I am also leaning on taking PU instead of Bountiful disillusionment. imo, with that build, stealth stomps may work just as good kittentering for stability. I just think PU synergizes better with that build.

This forum kittening out the word shattering for some reason, prob cause I have the word ‘as’ before the word shattering.

I was actually wandering about trailblazer’s armor as well after reading Ross’s build. I just posted my comment here as it seemed more relevant. It seems like a good armor stat to me. However, I am not a expert on condition builds either. Ross was also running chaotic transference over chaotic dampening in his build, since he was not running staff. This means his build may go with trailblazers slightly better than your build. However, there is not much of a difference.

With trailblazer’s ascended armor, you are giving up 1,080 health and 63 condition damage. The health probably doesn’t matter too much, especially since you are gaining more toughness. However, the condition damage loss may matter.
You are also gaining 61 toughness and the bigi benefit of a increase in condition duration by 13.8%. So, with this build the question is if it is worth giving up 63 condition damage for a 13.8% increase in condition duration.

If you take chaotic transference, you are also going to be adding 6.1 more condition damage.
61 × .1 = 6.1
So, in total with this trait, dire will have 56.9 less condition damage than Dire in exchange for the condition duration increase.

I still just kinda feel that sigil of concentration is the way to go if you have the money while surging would be an ok secondary choice if you don’t.
I am probably missing something. However, doesn’t collecting 600 Crystalline ore kinda take a really long time. I also may be biased as I am getting gold like crazy from winter’s day drinks right now. What makes 100 gold not a common expectation while collecting 600 Crystalline ore will be a common expectation? Is the difference between the 600 ore and 100 gold really that great to give up on the sigil and get the 6 runes instead? Since the superior runes of surging are faster to get, wouldn’t these be meta by the “acceptance” definition? If you use an accepted standard definition for meta, than wouldn’t the term meta itself be relative? If you are going into a dungeon with a pug than exotic gear may be the accepted upper standard of the group. However, if you are doing organized raids with a guild than ascended may be the accepted upper standard instead. I guess this is just how I feel. Its all well and good. I’m not gonna judge anyone for not having the most optimal gear unless I feel like it is really holding the group back. This goes for sigil of concentration vs leadership runes w/commanders armor as well of exotic vs ascended. However, if you really want the best gear possible, than I would do assassins/zerkers with chrono runes so that you can use signet of inspiration to spread more quickness (while at the same time having lots of power and precision from the runes for more damage). You can then put a superior sigil of concentration in your shield and get your rotations down so you swap at the right time. The name of the game is to just barely get to 100% boon duration while putting the rest into as much damage as possible for your group. The only reason for chrono runes over scholar in raids is the whole using signet of inspiration thing to spread extra quickness to your group (Especially important if the group is moving around a lot).

How do you use your Continuum Split

in Mesmer

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

For pve I like doing the whole continuum split, well of action, well of recall, well of calamity, well of eternity (all while spamming shatters), tides of time, continuum shift, followed immediately by tides of time again to catch two waves to lower the cool down by 20 seconds instead of just 10. You can use mimic in place of well of calamity. However, I like to low cool down of calamity.

For pvp, you can use moa. However, I personally really enjoy my gravity well. Wait till you know you can take the target out with a shatter burst. Bring up illusions with your mh sword, torch, shield, de, or whatever you are using as a weapon, shatter for continuum split, swap to great sword, place you gravity well, do a quick shatter burst. (It is best to do all this when the target is already knocked down or cced before hand so that they don’t dodge the gravity well. After this, the target should be down. This is when I do damage from a distanced and wait for their teammates to come heal them. Immediately when they start healing or are about to heal, I like to place the second gravity well and do a second mind wrack burst while the rest of the team is preferably cleaving away.

Yay, worked for me. For mac, go to the safari menu at the very top of the page where the apple icon is. First, after bringing up safari, click safari and scroll down to click preferences. Click the “advanced” tab to the very right and then make sure “Show Develop menu in menu bar” is selected with a check mark at the bottom of the screen. If this is checked than there should be a “Develop” tab in the safari menu as well (to the right of where you clicked safari). Click the “Develop” tab and scroll down to click on “Empty Caches”. After this, make sure you restart your computer. Then, it should work.

Eir's Story [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

2. Yes, many believe that her death could have been much, much better. Her death did not have meaning. The creature was not killed, it did not save any lives, and it did not help them escape. She also did not go down fighting like a legend. It also doesn’t matter if she comes back as a druid. This was her chance to die as a legend (even if she comes back, she is only going to die once).

There are several ways the scene could have gone that would have drawn less complaints. For example, they could have shown a scene where Eir dodges one strike in great pain. Next, the creature knocks Brahm down. The creature raises its tail and begins to strike to finish Brahm off when Eir dodges in front of the tail just in time, giving her life to save her Brahm.

Anything, ANYTHING at all where she at least made an attempt to fight rather than stare at the creature and appear to have given up would have been better. She should have gone down fighting, injured or not. She was a legend. A Norn. This is how it would have been.

https://youtu.be/kU5euLJ8pqY?t=76

this doesn’t look like someone who was giving up. And she gets into a fighting stance when the beast roars. At 1:20 we can see this stance better, like she is ready to try and dodge the attack, but fails.

making it look like she had nothing left and was weak from the start so she just accepted her death.

That was the point, she had nothing left. She gave her all to survive and in the end, she had no extra energy reserves left. She survived the crashed, she fought off hordes of mordem to give Pact soldiers a time to escape, was captured, starved, dehydrated, and stabbed. Then somehow she manages to hit Faolin, it was incredible she could do that. Everything I listed was all physical, that doesn’t take into the account the emotional and mental suffering she endured. I’m surprised she could even run, she’s a truly epic norn. Her legend and death will be one to remember, imo.

Ya, suppose its probably just in the eye of the beholder. Still would have liked to see her do more than just stand there when it attacked and would have liked her death to have more meaning. However, can’t change what already happened. We can only discuss it. However, it would be awesome if they put a statue of Eir up by her hut instead of just having her alive there still greeting you with “I wasn’t expecting you”.

Eir's Story [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

Your point 1 makes absolutely no sense, as the same logic could be said of Eir herself then if you want to through out what happened previously. We could ignore anything and everything she did up to this point and just say she was a god of tyria suddenly, because we don’t have to justify anything of her past to explain whats going on now. That’s why listening to information beforehand leading up to the scene is important, whether you want to listen or not. So yes, previous cutscenes matter.

As for other members not badly injured, we don’t know that. But we know they WERE captured and placed into those pods and (depending on who you chose) the unconscious one was considered to be in “really bad shape”.

Also, you’re right, they didn’t have to starve her or anything. They could’ve written the story anyway they wanted. So they wrote it like this. And you aren’t happy with it.

So which is it? Can they write it however they want? Or write it however you want?

OP:
“To see Eir being impaled in to a nearby tree without one last fight, however futile, is what bring disgrace to her Legacy and in my eyes, even if Eir knew the fight was already lost she would have relished that one last chance to go out fighting with tooth and claw.
Eir could have Become the Wolf and entered a Blood Frenzy to recoup some of her strength, Eir could have and indeed should have gone out fighting, with her honour as a Norn intact.
Eir deserves a Heroes death as she also deserves a Heroes Remembrance.”

First, I was writing to tell OP that I agree with them

Second

You:
“Also, you’re right, they didn’t have to starve her or anything. They could’ve written the story anyway they wanted. So they wrote it like this. And you aren’t happy with it.

So which is it? Can they write it however they want? Or write it however you want?"

They can write it how they want of course. However, writing a story how you want doesn’t’ necessarily mean it will be good story (not saying the rest of the gw2 story isn’t good). It also doesn’t necessarily mean the story telling will be consistent. Many books are written each year. However, good books are generally enjoyed by a large amount of people. In the case of Eir’s death, I have counted 21 people in two threads on the gw2 forums right now who did not agree with how Eir died. This does not include people who blatantly said Eir shouldn’t have died or other variations. It only includes people who didn’t agree with how she died. I also saw many more similar comments under youtube videos I have watched, which is why I have posted here to say I agree with them. I do not enjoy Eir’s death because it appears inconsistent with who she is as a character. She was a main character, a mentor for many of us, and was the leader of Destiny’s Edge. She was also a norn who wanted to build her legend, just like every other norn.

Here are some quotes from gw2wiki about norn

1. “They will never give up on their battle, quarry or friends”
2. “The norn do not fear death as they believe the bold and strong can achieve immortality, but they do fear they will be weak and end up forgotten.”

If Eir simply excepted death without trying as hard as she could to protect Brahm and the rest of the group, this would be inconsistent with 1.
As I mentioned, the creature that killed Eir was not difficult to beat at all compared to other parts of the story. In my opinion, getting killed by a mediocre creature, nearly alone, in a far of place, without appearing to put up even an ounce of a fight is by many standards not very heroic. This is Eir who has went up against elder dragons like Kralkatorrik. To get killed by a measly creature like this without a good fight, even if she is injured and starving, is a joke. To me, and probably many others, this seams inconsistent with number 2. However, the main point is that many people who love Eir and norn have a good understanding of norn culture and Eir. They know that Eir was not there during Brahms childhood and felt bad about that. They also new Eir really wanted to die in battle and be remembered for it. Therefore, putting up a good fight against a tuff creature and dying to save Brahm would have solved many of these issues and would have been a very good death for Eir. It would have brought her peace during her finale moments before death, and this is perhaps what many people in the gw2 community wanted, which is why they may have said they disagreed with the way she died.

You:
“Your point 1 makes absolutely no sense, as the same logic could be said of Eir herself then if you want to through out what happened previously. We could ignore anything and everything she did up to this point and just say she was a god of tyria suddenly, because we don’t have to justify anything of her past to explain whats going on now. Of course I believe point 1 makes sense. The people at Anet cannot just throw out the concepts of norn culture and Eir’s history before heart of thorns because they most certainly did not have any plans for Eir’s death when they made the original gw2. However, they could have changed any events they wanted to in the heart of thorns story line leading up to Eir’s death because they most likely had the whole story line planed out before they made the game. When you go though verdant brink, you can see many people of the pact who can walk and fight after the crash. They could have also made it so the people were very weak when they came out of the pods, but were still capable of doing something, like dodging in front of Brahm to save his life. In fact, if you watch the scene again, you will see that they are quite capable of doing these things. After Eir and Faolain were released from the pods, they started running. If she was strong enough to run, she would have been strong enough to dodge in front of Brahm to save his life. Additionally, Fraolain was clearly strong enough to stab Eir without any problems while Eir was strong enough to throw the knife to kill Fraoline. Therefore, it easily would have been believable for her to put up a little bit of a fight with the creature before giving her life to save Brahm (or something similar). Look at the movie Gladiator (spoiler). He was stabbed and still managed to kill his opponent before falling himself. This was a heroic death. Many believe Eir’s death was not and Anet could have made her look better with a better ending besides a death, that may have been rushed just to add some drama to the story. It is for this reason that many feel like it was just a big kitten slap to Eir, who many have grown attached to as a character.

As I said, its not a matter about her being able to dodge, about her being dehydrated, or about her possibly breaking bones in the crash. Read my initial point 1. Its a matter of that they should have made it look like she fought for awhile and gave it her all to save Brahm instead of making it look like she had nothing left and was weak from the start so she just accepted her death. Eir was too important of a character and too strong for Anet to imply the latter.

Eir's Story [Spoilers]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

Just got done finishing the whole story for HoT.

1. Why are you guys trying to justify that Eir was starving, injured from the pact crash, etc. ? It doesn’t matter. They could have written the whole story anyway they wanted to. None of the other members were that badly injured. Therefore, you don’t have to make this assumption with Eir. They also didn’t have to starve her or anything like that. Its like you guys are trying to justify the cutscene based on the previous HoT cutscenes. This makes no sense. Anet didn’t have to justify the death based on the previous scenes because they created the previous scenes and could have changed those previous scenes however they liked.

2. Yes, many believe that her death could have been much, much better. There is also a another topic about this in the “Lore” section of the forums as well as many complaints in the comment sections of youtube videos that discuss this at all. This then would have led to my point 3.

3. The creature was way to easy to kill. After Eir gave her life to save Brahm, there should have ben an epic, difficult fight with more than just basic attacks. It would have at least made the moment a little more special. Brahm could have then helped, both of you taking out your rage on the creature. The best thing that comes to mind here is star wars episode one when Obi-kittenenobi takes out his rage after Qui-Gon Jinn is killed.

4. After the defeat of the creature, there should have been a cutscene where Eir and Brahm have one last moment before Eir dies in Brahm’s arms.

5. Immediately after I finished the whole story, the first place I went to was Eir’s house to see if there was a statue created by Brahm or anything special to commemorate her. I was very disappointed to see that Eir was still alive and well at her house like nothing happened. Please, please, please, fix this. I obviously don’t know everything behind Anet’s decisions. Maybe its impossible to fix this without also changing it for people who didn’t play HoT yet. Having a norn as my main pve character and being together with Eir since the first moment of gw2, it is very disheartening going into her hut and seeing her there after you know she was killed.

i think you got this spot on.
but the ranger and druid and herald sustain is pretty nasty too.

Ya, those trait lines give you access to more dodges and blinds. Oh wait the traits Critical infusions and blinding dissipation are found in dueling. I guess they have no access to vigor or blinds. Spot on indeed my friend

probably they want you to use 2 pieces of +15AR infusion on each of the attuned ring….

If they just wanted you to use +15AR infusions than they wouldn’t have gave you the option of getting the +7 infusions. It is fairly clear that they expected you to get +7 infusions for high level fractals. They should add a mystic forge recipe where you can combine the omini infusions with stats with +7 infusions to create a +7 infusion with the stats.

Additionally, do you know what +15 infusions cost compared to +10 infusions?

Going around with a zerg is not fun, boring, and has no difficulty. It doesn’t matter if your zerg needs to be coordinated to win the event. Coordination between zergs does not mean difficulty. It also doesn’t mean you are a good player if you complete them. Difficulty means that it is hard to stay alive, finish the event, or accomplish the objective based on your ability (not the ability of a group that could be carrying you). With that said, why do meta events like silver wastes give so much income compared to dungeons and fractals? It should be the more difficult the content, the better the rewards. Its that simple. Many of the dungeons like arah and such are more difficult than zerging in silver wastes. Therefore, they should give better rewards for the time spent to complete those events. Fractals have been completely gutted. Grinding for more agony resistance is not difficulty. They need to increase the difficulty in fractals instead of just increasing the toughness. They then need to give rewards that match said difficulty. Dungeons are dying; fractals are dying. Why are they killing these events? The large variety of different ways to make a little money was what made this game so fun. We don’t want one specific way to make a lot of money. There should be many ways: meta events, high lvl fractals, raids, dungeons, boss fights etc. While you should earn the most money/hour in the most difficult meta events, the most difficult fractals, the most difficult dungeons, etc. However, it should not be that only dudgeons provide the most gold or only meta events provide the most gold. You should be able to make the most gold/hour through a variety of ways, all consisting of some of the most difficult content. At the same time, there should be less challenging content of the same variety that provides slightly less rewards for those who don’t want to bother with the hardest difficulty.

Can we make mentor harder to get?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

I had planned to use the Mentor tag and have it up as I clear maps on my Rev so people can whisper me if they needed any help/info. The apple icon above my head is so distracting I turned it off after 5 mins lol.

So I think once the novelty wears off a bit, more and more people will get sick of the apple above their heads as well and just turn it off. Also if they do get a lot of whispers, and if they are not using the tag for the purpose of actually helping people that will be another reason to turn it off.

This is what I agree with as well. Everyone can not use their tags properly and be a jerk. It doesn’t matter if you completed a mastery for it, completed a series of masteries for it, paid 300g for it, or have total map completion for it. There is always the option to abuse it. Therefore, I do not believe that upgrading the requirements for it are the way to go.

This is my solution

1. Make it so individual players can turn on or off their tags like it is now. If you don’t want to mentor and ask questions, you can turn it off.
2. Make it so individuals can turn off all mentor tags they see. If you don’t need to be mentored yourself, you don’t have to see the tags. This is useful because I am always willing to ask questions for other players and help them out. A tag or something would be nice to let others know I am willing to do this. However, I also don’t want to see the tag over my head and don’t want to see others tags. I also don’t want people who don’t want to be mentored seeing the tags. I don’t want them to be confused and think there is an event where I am at. I only want a way to let others know that I am willing to ask questions and help them out
3. You should be able to make it so you can’t see individual commander tags. Like a right click option to disable being able to see it. There have been many times I have ran to a commander tag only to see they are roaming around on their own killing random creatures, probably tagging up only to make the killing process go faster.

Underwater Combat...whats your vision?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

This. Anet can’t even keep up with balancing PvP, patching HoT content, improving WvW, and so forth. The last thing I want is for them to devote resources to underwater combat. I go in water to harvest nodes and to get from A to B, that’s it and that’s all it ever will be.

I’m more concerned with improving the 98% of the content that happens on dry land.

And yet they added a Revenant, which means more content to balance on dry land. To me, just giving up on water content and never going back to it would show a severe lack of perseverance and would be quite disapointing. Besides balancing class skills better underwater, my suggestions are to make more skills available underwater. Fore example all AoE skills, like wells and what not need to form 3D bubbles rather than 2D circles on the floor. If any of you played the Legend of Zelda, I think it would also be cool if they added iron boots. By this I mean you can equip or upgrade your boots so that you can walk at the bottom of the lake or body of water. This way you still run into water monsters that swim. However, you can still use your normal land weapons under water. Likewise, they can add hover boots that allow you to walk on the surface of water. This game took what could have been a boring concept, like water combat, and made it very interesting with some mad creativity. I hope Anet does the same.

Some more ideas/many coming from zelda

underwater caves
Ships
Places where you can drain the water out/change water levels
underwater steam vents that make you invisible to foes for a short amount of time.
Being able to go inside the belly of a whale or kraken as a dungeon/raid
floating devices that burst you to the surface of the water quickly so you don’t have to swim slowly.
Speed boosters in the water, please
whirlpools
hurricanes.
surfing
small tropical islands
Deep ocean zones where everything goes dark except for a light source (use nature for inspiration for what type of creatures to put in).
parasailing/gliding from geysers that shoot you up into the air.
windsurfing
freezing oceans/water
Ever seen star wars episode 1? Cities inclosed in bubbles underwater. As soon as you swim though the bubble, gravity acts on you.
Cool dynamic events/boss battles. For example, it would be cool to battle a giant flying fish from the back of a giant kitten sea turtle’s back.
submarines
riverrafting
Tie the sea combat in with sky/flying combat
flying cities
being able to land on clouds with hover boots
Tengu that live on clouds anyone?
Diving puzzles (falling from clouds though a ring of obstacles with no glider/iron boots equiped)
Waterspouts
jetpacks
etc.

As others have mentioned, its tuff to say. Since launch, what I have been finding out from fractals and other pve content is that the mesmer/chronomancer’s role has been changing. It has gone from reflects —> spurt out alacrity and quickness. It also has a major role in removing beaker bars with slow and possibly removing boons in raids (based on the raid beta anyway). Can mesmers do major reflect damage? Yes. However, now that the expansion is out, you can have a herald protect you from projectiles for a kitten ton of time. I have a guardian and herald in my main fractal group now. Most of the time, I don’t need reflects. However, even in the most reflect heavy encounters, I can just switch one of my skills to feedback and only have to use it when there is a short break when the herald and guardian can’t reflect. With this, its easy to have 100% missile protection. While this is going on, you can continue to do what you do best, that no other class can do. You can spert out your alacrity and quickness for the team. Addition: We also didn’t see any uses of reflects in the first raid.

Sorry if it seems if I was getting off topic a little. By this I just mean that precision might not be quite be as strongly important as it was before (but of course, it will still be important). Therefore, Assassins or berserkers will be the best for damage, but not necessarily because of reflects. I believe frifox tested both sets and found that they were both roughly equal in a team setting with no reflects. Therefore, I suppose you still might as well go for Assassins just in case you need a lot of reflects in a future raid.

As for marauder, I believe it will only be used if there is strong bursting damage in raids that zerker/ass chronomancers will not be able to survive but can be negated with the little vitality that marauders offers. You should have a druid in your squad that heals everyone. There are some videos of beta testing the first raid and it appeared that full out damage engis and chronos did fine with a druid. However, they are going to add different raids that might lead to different results.

+7 Mighty, Precise, Malign Infusion Upgrade?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

The new versatile +7 infusions now make the fine omni infusions, and many of the other fine infusions, obsolete. The reason people have made these is because they want the extra stats and the ability to do fractals in one set of armor. If they just wanted to get the stats, they would just get the WvW ones. It would be ok to give up on those fine omni infusions if they were cheap. However, at the current moment, they can cost over 140 gold a piece. Currently, there is a reason for people to be very upset if they filled their amor up with these infusions and no +7 infusions with at least +5 stats are added. This is even more relevant when legendary armor comes out. People aren’t going to want to switch out every infusion in their legendary armor when they switch between fractals and other content. Therefore, my suggestion is that they add a mystic forge recipe where you can combine the fine infusions people have already crafted with the +7 infusions that are now in fractals.

“Chronomancer is OP” – Facts vs Fiction

We all new this would happen. We just didn’t know when. Less than 24 hours after the expansion was released, a member of the guild wars community, claiming to main revenant, had the audacity to create a chronomancer nerf thread in the pvp forums. However, this is not about the particular thread, or the individual who posted it. It is about the vast swarms of people who are inevitably going to post these types of threads. Like the mesmer, many, if not all of them, are going to be full of biased opinions supported fallacious or defective arguments. While I would not want the chronomancer to dominate the pvp landscape, I also don’t want skills or traits nerfed due to unjustified complaints. For those who have played pvp after the expansion’s release, it is probably not hard to realize how the current meta and balance is changing at an alarming rate. With the elite specializations released, damage is much higher. There are new skills, new abilities, and new techniques. Therefore, my opinions have changed between the betas and release. They will also continue to change as we learn more about how the specializations settle down.

Throughout the first day of release, I have played quite a bit of pvp. What I have noticed is that while the chronomancer’s shield has nice defensive capabilities, they do not make you an invincible powerhouse. For example, when playing organized team fights, two high dps classes, like reapers or revenants, may simply wait patiently until the shield’s block is over. If competent opponents know the shield’s cooldown, it is not hard to time and coordinate the attack. With the amount of damage in the current pvp scene, I have been downed from 100% health to 0 fast enough that I was unable to use Deja Vu to save me after Echo of memory. At the same time, while people have complained about the chronomancer’s shield, the scrapper can regenerate health at an alarming rate while at the same time dishing out a lot of damage. To put it simply, the arguments that state the chronomancer cannot both have good shield block abilities and do a lot of damage is ludicrous. In fact, they need skills like this just to stay alive. While this may have been a respectable view before the expansion, the meta changed to to point where many classes do have good defensive abilities while doing a lot of damage. Not only this, but many classes may need more defense to stand up to how much more damage the specializations and revenants offer. Personally, after the release, I believe many of the traits and skills of other classes could be tuned down and the chronomancer’s shield would still not be considered op compared to them. Yes, of course the chronomancer is very powerful compared to the baseline classes. However, Anet will never be able to balance the elite specializations to the level of the base classes. They can only hope to balance the elite specializations with each other.

The same may be said about gravity well. It can potentially be very powerful. However, it is an ELITE skill. Elite skills are suppose to be powerful. Based on my experience, unless you make sure the opponent has no stability or dodges left, gravity well will be wasted (never mind daredevils, gravity well may never be useful against daredevils). You must bate out those dodges before you can place gravity well so they can’t dodge it. The only problem with this is that baiting out all their dodges also leaves them open so that you can land a shatter instead of using gravity well . . . . which you would use so that you can land a shatter. Is it useful, yes. Is it op for an elite skill, no, at least I don’t think so.

So, what are you’re opinions about op chronomancer, fact vs fiction? What do you think about the shield’s block ability and gravity well? Are any of the chronomancer’s skills, traits, or abilities so strong that they make the chronomancer op compared to the other elite specializations?

Thats kinda tuff. Mantras are always nice for a little extra damage in dungeons. However, I would not say they are required. Therefore, I would personally go for glamours first. As of right now, feedback is awesome, null field is nice for removing conditions, portal is a nice extra skill if you know how to use it, and time warp is pretty awesome as well. If you have extras left, I would try to get blink in manipulations. That way you can use feedback, null field for removing conditions, time warp for an elite support skill, and probably blink in the last spot. If you need to portal people, you can then switch out null field for portal. I suppose I would suggest going for mantra training after you get blink (don’t need to go all the way down the manipulation tree at first). There are a lota nice goodies in mantras for pve as well. For traits you wana probably go for domination, dueling, and inspiration at first. This way you have reflects and some nice condition removal. The illusion line would be next for a little extra damage. However, I would still go dom/duel/inspir first.

p.s. One of the devs mentioned in the forums that you need to unlock all other abilities in your class before you can unlock the elite specialization.

Great, its settled. Klonko believes that mesmers should be nerfed because rangers are perhaps under powered at the moment and mesmers are better at countering the zerker classes he likes playing. Meanwhile, he still can’t do well with tankier builds/classes because they are not his mains. Now that we know that none of these arguments are valid, we can happily move on with our lives.

However, only in the last 600 million years of earths 4.5 billion year history, the oxygen levels went up to the point where forest fires became common. I think the moral of the lesson is they should decrease the amount of atmospheric oxygen and insure the grass and lawnmowers all have adequate fire extinguishers. That, and guns. [Game]Create Your Own Specialization!

in Mesmer

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

Just a few ideas/comments

1. I love the idea of extending the mesmer’s control over space by being able to create rifts in space and use telekinesis. These two ideas from previous posters could probably be combined into one specialization.

2. I also love the idea of a phantasm who produces taunt. If it is on a long cool down, I don’t think it would be op…maybe.

3. One of the cool ideas I like is that of a mime specialization. You would be able to replace your shatters with the ability to use a tool belt like the engineer. This specialization would grant you access to many “illusionary” weapons that your opponent can’t see with attacks based on the other classes. Examples may included an illusionary greatsword that gives you the attacks of a warrior gs, an illusionary longbow that gives you the attacks of a ranger, or a pair of illusionary swords that gives you the revenant’s attacks . Perhaps you may be able to conjure these types of weapons for other allies like the ice bow. This specialization may also have access to illusionary skills/traps. Some examples include creating an invisible box around you that basically gives you distortion for a couple of seconds. Another would be a trap that sets an invisible rope to trip enemies. If you are tripped by the rope, perhaps a piano could fall from the sky and land on the enemy. Just basic mime stuff. Removing shatters with toolbelt skills may also give mesmers more access to sustained damage.

4. I like the idea of cards as a weapon as well. Perhaps the mesmer uses a MH dagger as a throwing weapon and they release a skin that looks like a deck of cards for the specialization. (I don’t necessarily like the idea of a traditional dagger cause I feel like its turing a mesmer too much into a thief, especially when thieves have already complained about mesmers being too thiefish with pu.)

5. I would also like to see more of a hex mesmer specialization that focuses more on messing with the mind rather than space and time, kinda like how it was in the original guild wars. Perhaps for an elite skill you can enter into a butterfly caccoon for a few seconds. During this time, enemies may attack the caccoon. However, it will take multiple enemies to take down the caccoon in time before it hatches. When it hatches, the mesmer turns into an avatar for a few seconds that has psychic abilities and can control enemies. Obviously the mesmer would not be able to directly control the enemy. However, perhaps the mesmer avatar could use skill keys to apply fear infront, behind, to the right, or left of the enemy player. This way, the mesmer would be able to control where the enemy moves for a few seconds.

Here are some other skills based on the original guild wars that might be kinda cool to see in a specialization.

Spiritual Pain: Deal damage to summoned creatures in the area.
Hypochondria: Transfer all conditions from all foes in the area to target foe.
Tease/Web of Disruption: If the target is interrupted, you interrupt all foes in the area.
Wastrel’s Demise: Target takes damage and produces an AoE that damages nearby foes.

6. As I kinda mentioned before, I see nothing wrong with combining many of these ideas together into a “performance like” mesmer. Perhaps a MH dagger specialization with a card deck skin that uses many of the skills mentioned by others. However, this specialization also may conjure illusionary weapons and use an illusionary trap and illusionary box. One tool belt weapon could be a hammer that gives you telekinesis. They may also turn into a psychic avatar as mentioned in #5, accept it could be a large black top hat instead of a caccoon.

Oh ya, It would also be cool if you could taunt an enemy to attack their closest ally.

1. Gained Cooldown = 1.33
2. Gained Cooldown = 2.67

7. Gained Cool down = 7.33 to 8.67 seconds
instead of 7.26 to 8.58
AtomsOrSystems has a rounding error.
You have to use 1 and two thirds (5/3) (or 1.6666666….) instead of 1.66 because they actually use a fraction instead of just the number 1.66
AlphaTheWhite taught me this in another thread.
The results are similar. However, when dealing with large numbers of alacrity, it may drive the results off a bit. The equations used by AtomsOrSystems are the same.

Gained Cooldown = ((5/3) X (Seconds of Alacrity you are under)) – (Seconds of Alacrity you are under)

I made this mistake before. When calculating cool down reduction, if you use 1.66 instead of (5/3), you will calculate a cool down reduction of 39.759% instead of the actual value of 40%

Least to Favorite - Rate The Wells!

in Mesmer

Posted by: Xstein.2187

Xstein.2187

Whaaat? I don’t know how you guys can make this type of decision between the wells. In the early betas I could. However, right now all of them appear to be useful, depending on what game mode you are using them in.

Some of my favorites are action and gravity
As others have mentioned, action is like a little time warp. With the extra traited alacrity, this well kind of becomes the bread and butter of a pve chronomancer. It has a little bit of everything that screams “chronomancer”. Slow, alacrity, quickness, ethereal field. What can be more “chronomancerish” than that?

Gravity well is also very cool just because of the strong cc and cool float effect. It can be very strong and useful. This well also helps demonstrate the chronomancers strong abilities to not only control time, but space as well.

Least favorite
Before the AWTEW trait change and the added condition removal, well of eternity would have been near dead to me. However, now that these changes did occur, I really can’t say I have a least favorite well.

p.s. and I don’t necessarily think well of recall is alacrity overkill, especially in longer fights. However, that just my opinion. The high alacrity output from this well also allows you to spread your wells out to provide enough alacrity for your team through interspersed fights. Also, just look at raids where you may need to move around a lot. You just need to catch the end of the well to get 7 seconds of alacrity.

I enjoyed all the others as well. An honorable mention goes to Decimus. I felt like it was kinda disqualified since it was too long and the videos were taken a long time ago. However, if it was recent and short enough to follow the rules than I probably would have gave it first.

tl;dr: I got owned by supcutie and a great thief working extremely effectively together, but I don’t want to admit that I got owned fair and square, and have decided to blame it on the build instead.

nah, u managed to entirely miss my point. but thanks for contributing to the discussion.

The only thing you said in that post was complaining about how badly he beat you. We already know supcutie is great, the thief is great, and they were working together. This just another case of ’don’t want to admit I lost real bad’.

just stop trolling a serious thread. i said a lot more in that post, which you chose to ignore and spew your own vitriol, attacking me when i in fact wasn’t hostile toward anyone. I’m done with you, moving on.

edit: actually, say what you will bud. at this point, Gee probably read the thread and that’s all that matters.

The point is that your argument doesn’t make sense. You are asking for a nerf because you got recked by two of the best players in pvp working together. Not only that, but you keep coming back because you feel so salty about it and can’t let it go. Sure this thread is serious. . . seriously funny that you go to the mesmer forums complaining that you got recked. Seriously though, how did you expect this to go when you posted it in the mesmer forum? You should have just left it in the pvp forum and have been done with it.
