Thieves are screwed by this because they have to stay on their melee set if they want to down somebody so they can’t take on-swap sigils on their melee set.

Also the change only limits SB thieves.

Which is basically all thieves. On any other map except Eco, leaving your shortbow home is a bad decision.

thanks for all the info folks, just the minor tweak of taking dragon hunter has re-invigorated my want to play the class. still tweaking the stuff to not spend a fortune on rejigging gear so I am working with my sinister stuff but so far it is awesome, just need to get a long bow as when I tested stuff by using my rangers ascended zerker bow and everything else from my ps warrior this has been a good thing.

Btw, it may be good for you to have a set of Marauders, as pieces of it can be added to almost any other set to provide a bit of vitality. Besides, it’s only about >5% DPS drop from Berserker but a ton more vitality which doesn’t even interfere with aggro.

Updated & A bit more concise.

1. Wave of Wrath – Added functionality as it now heals allies as well by 145 healing baseline, 0.15 scaling from healing power. Damage reduced by 20%. Targets allies and enemies independently, 5 target limit on both.
Both baseline healing and HP scaling have been improved slightly. I think it should now hit a sweet spot between Druid Staff AA and Ele Water Staff AA.

2. Remove Orb of Light in favor of:
Anvil of Light – Call down a column of holy fire that heals allies and damages foes
Damage x4: 552
Healing x4: 405 (Healing Power scaling 0.2)
Duration: 3 seconds
Radius: 180
Combo Field: Fire
Range: 1200
Casting time: 1 s
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Putting this forward as my first choice, as people seem to like it. Base healing and scaling slightly improved.

3. Symbol of Tenacity.
Damage(x4): 1215
Resistance: 1 s
Weakness: 1 s
Targets: 5
Symbol Duration: 3 s
Radius: 180
Combo Field: Light
Range: 1200
Cooldown: 25 s

4. Empower – Fully rehauled.
Release two powerful bursts of light that heal allies around you.
Casting Time: 1, 25 s
Swiftness(x2): 6 s
First Pulse Healing: 740 (scaling 0.4)
Second Pulse Healing: 1360 (scaling 0.6)
Combo Finisher: Blast(x2)

It’s also unrooted now but I understand this might be a bit more difficult as it’s basically embedded in the animation.

Added functionality: Allies crossing the ward have their conditions cleansed.

While I like the idea of Guardian staff getting buffed (practically anything is an improvement), the ideas here would barely help. The change to #1 and #2 are great ideas, and I have even thought of the exact same changes, the problem for #1 lies in the scaling. Under 0.05 scaling it is pretty pitiful healing, just look at Elementalist staff scaling and how it heals upwards for 1.2k on autos. Yes it doesn’t hit 5 targets for damage but it does have 1200 range and can be ground targeted to heal others.

I left the numbers small on purpose, as I wanted to have a low starting point for buffing them to required/reasonable levels later. What you have to consider though is that Guardian staff AA is almost twice as fast as Eles Water AA, and Guardian can dish out equal/a bit more outgoing healing than ele can with Force of Will, if you stat into vitality.
I believe the ideal Raid Healing gear for guardian would be Zealot’s or a combination of Seraph/Shaman gear if you go condi(not sure if that’s viable).
I had the HP scaling at 0.15 before making the thread but decided on changing it at the last minute. What do you think would be a reasonable scaling for it?

The suggestion for the symbol is an awesome idea that I can get behind. Would be sweet if it did a secondary effect like all of our newer symbols are doing now (blind on sword, extra hits on scepter, burn on bow). I’d suggest making it cleanse 1 condition on drop or heal per pulse baseline (which with writ would increase the healing farther).

I can get behind the heal per pulse as a baseline ability. Around 650 baseline with a scaling of 0.3?

For ability #4, the reason healing Guardian is now brought to heal for raids is because Grace of the Land is way to powerful. Yes the increase to affect all 10 people was a great change, but you will always have to bring at least 1 druid, though probably 2 for spirits. I am of the opinion to remove might from the ability and make it pulse healing and at the end explode for 5 stacks of Grace of the Land or something equivalent. The main problem with this ability is two-fold. The first you did identify which is lack of movement in a game based on moving constantly. The second problem is that the might is mostly useless because you will over cap it.

I guess this was supposed to read as “not brought to heal for raids”?
The rooting effect of Empower currently is a common known issue with the skill so I won’t take credit for identifying that.
I’m not a fan of copy-pasting GotL into this and I don’t think all of the skills have to serve raiding. However, over-abundance of Might is present in other game modes as well. I will think about it and try to come up something.

I believe #5 can use a secondary effect for allies. Against enemies it is fine, for allies this is where you could place a swiftness buff just like the mesmer curtain or make it heal those who pass through.

I would actually like to make it cleanse conditions for allies. You suggested it for the symbol but I think it fits better here.

Another problem with the staff, and healing Guardian in general, is that you need to spend a trait on aegis healing instead of getting it as a minor (like in place of might on blocking maybe? I know, different tree but Honor’s minors are in a good spot). This means if you want to take empowering or the staff trait you reduce your healing by a significant amount so you never have a choice IMO.

Traits are another can of worms I don’t really want to go into here, so just a few points:

-But I do believe that Pure of Heart could be merged with Communal Defenses in Valor.
-Purity of Body should also be merged with Battle Presence in Virtues, and Writ of Persistence made into the Honor Grandmaster Minor trait.
-Additionally, Empowering Might should be stronger.

This is not true, the leather farm works great, the problem is ppl still want things handed to them, and don’t want to put any effort into farming themselves, they want Anet to step in and nerf it.

And when you look at the graph, the result is still the same. The price is now higher than before the leather farm came. It’s marginal, but it’s there. What does that tell you?

Look at the full graph over time and don’t just cherry pick two points in time. Where it sits at now is the normal level when there isn’t as many players playing. Notice how there’s always a sharp decrease in price with each living story episode? There was also the speculation that the leather farm would dramatically increase supply that drove prices down a bit.

There are 2 spikes in January that rise over 34 s, and the Leather Farm hadn’t been announced yet. Now, in March there are 4 spikes over 34 s, now that most people know it’s there and we’re barely 3 weeks into the month. Statistically we can predict an additional spike towards the midway of the week. That’s more than double the amount of price spikes. I’m not cherrypicking certain moments, I’m looking at the monthly average.

The prices dropping in February can be accounted for by the announcement/release of LWS3E4. It’s a statistical anomaly created by marketing, basically.

That’s cherry picking again. Prices fluctuate but the price level as remained relatively flat outside of the impacts of the LS and leather farm announcement.

mesmer is more support oriented in general I guess
ele can be support oriented and will be more healer (auramcner) but is generally more directed towards DPS or AOE DPS

That’s a bit of a confusing statement as they are both equally supportive, they just have different ways of achieving that. Mesmer is mainly offensive support, improving DPS of people around them. Elementalist is mainly defensive support, providing healing and boons group-wide. They both have a flipside, where ele is the most powerful AoE DPS in the game, and mesmer has superior mobility and Crowd Control abilities. Both styles for each profession are viable in one gamemode or the other.

When comparing Hardened Leather Sections to the other t6 mats, you see that they are a minimum of x5 more expensive than any of the others. The next contender is Ancient Wood Planks which are about 20 s per unit. Orichalcum Ingots are just under 6s, and Bolts of Gossamer aren’t even 2 s. I think the average price for all of them should be around 15 to 20 s, and improvements should be aimed toward that goal.

AND btw, what’s with the new asc weapon recipes for PvP and Fractals? Weaponsmiths and Artificers now need leather to make the weapons! These professions can’t even refine leather! This is an issue that shouldn’t exist, needing stuff from outside your crafting discipline.

Laptop Inquiry

I’ve heard that running it in windowed mode makes it run faster- perhaps that’s something with changing the resolution though. It’s been a while since I properly played GW2 on a laptop. Worth a shot at least

I suppose that depends on the system, as going to windowed mode on my laptop drops my framerate to about 3-5 fps from a reasonable 40 to 50 in fullscreen. Or it might be about the resolution. On the laptop side though, not in the game.

To OP, I think your problem is in the processor as my laptop has almost exactly the same specs but my card goes up to 2,7 GHz, which runs the game smoothly on medium settings. Mine is an ASUS though, don’t know if that makes a difference.

Hardened leather prices are a bit ridiculous atm. A square costs over a 1 g, whereas you can get an Orichalcum Ingot for a bit under 6 s. So they cost about 20x more. I don’t think they were even this expensive before, so what happened? We got a leather farm and the prices went up?

And what’s with Gossamer Patches requiring 10 Hardened Leather Sections but only 4 Bolts of Gossamer? That should really be the other way around, as they are GOSSAMER Patches. Not Leather Patches.

Well, Epi bouncing doesn’t require you to have GS but it is still the optimal choice. You could do reasonably well with Sc/D and D/Wh.

How do you get your thief to one hit kill?

While D/P and in Stealth: Shadow Shot -> (Dodge ->) About Face key (keybind R for me) -> Backstab+Steal -> Heartseeker
This is when they are facing you, and you need to get behind them for the Backstab. Shadow Shots bullet part doesn’t do damage so it doesn’t break stealth but you need to be dodging through the target as the projectile hits so the timing is of critical importance.
If you are not dodging at the right time, you will not go through your opponent and Shadow Shots dagger attack will commence, breaking your stealth.
That’s the hard part, now just turn around and assault your target with all you’ve got. Thieves certainly can’t 1-shot kill technically but it appears like that because the attacks happen in such a quick succession that there’s practically no difference.

The simpler rotation for when you’re alrdy behind your target is seen in Aikijin video, so I won’t comment on that further. (to be fair, this might’ve been in there as well, I didn’t watch all of it)

I would personally use a level 80 boost on either Revenant or Engineer, as those 2 have been the most tedious leveling experiences I’ve had. Revenant because they only get their speed boost with Herald at level 80, and engineer because of how the class functions it isn’t fun to level at all. (in retrospect, if I hadn’t been in a hurry to level up my engi, it might’ve been a bit more fun taking it casually)

Regardless, I think Ranger might just be the worst class to pick for the 80 boost, as looking for pets is a big part of rangering, and that goes conveniently during leveling. So take your time!

I think you mean selectively discussing it with people. Several people in this thread have brought up legitimate concerns numerous times and haven’t gotten a single response.

Just because they don’t reply to your post does not mean they didn’t read it.

Yes, again, I believe that’s what they call “selectively discussing” things. Of course I don’t really care if they ignore the questions I personally put forward, but they’ve ignored a tad too many people for me to consider this a proper discussion.

Unlike most of us, ANet employees talk on this forum mostly during work hours, so I’d say a realistic window for them to read and respond to our questions is at its most a few hours per week. And this isn’t the only thread they read. That means they will skip answering even good and legit questions, and for a good reason. What you consider “selective discussing” is just a the plain reality, and thus far I’ve seen them take into account issues that they haven’t commented on.

I’d argue that base guardians burn build is actually stronger than Burn DH, which is saying a lot. Less sustain but the damage upgrade makes up for it. Neither is good in high tiers but against other less experienced players it’s extremely fun. I remember this from when I was a newbie myself.

Base necro and ele are actually surprisingly good as well.

Obindo used it (zerker and sig) in worlds qualifiers when gs carrion was relevant, then Drazeh started running it on stream after that and now everyones uses it.

It was actually Drazeh that can take credit for this build, as Denial won one of the finals basically because of it. Basically because no one had seen it before. Can’t remember if that was Pro league or World Champs.

Oh yeah, warriors have downed skill called Vengeance, which will effectively res them for 15 secs. When Vengeance ends, they will be defeated immediately, skipping downstate, unless they manage to kill someone during Vengeance.

Sigil of Enhancement
Unless you plan to greatly reduce boon spam with profession changes, this is essentially a straight 5% damage sigil.

This depends on class, scrappers, and eles will definitely benefit, possibly druid as well. The others just don’t have enough boons as it would take 10 unique boons to even get to where Force is currently. Revenant, for example, while being boon-heavy, only has consistent access to 6-7 boons on its own. Which means 3 – 3.5 % damage increase.

Sigil of Ruthlessness
Please no on-interrupt sigils. Interrupt/CC spam from certain abilities is already a pain and they could stack this sigil insanely quick. An ele could wade through a group with shocking aura and trigger this sigil multiple times just from incidental cleave. Pulmonary Impact spam thieves will do even more damage.

Yet the duration is only 3 seconds. It might give an easy burst in power but it won’t aid much in overall DPS. Especially without Air or the other On-Crit sigils.

Sigil of Absorbtion
Doubly bad. It has on-interrupt design and is boon steal, something which should be left to profession abilities.

This I do agree with. But it might just be to counter Sigil of Enhancement.

Guardian is(I think) the 3rd highest power DPS after ele and thief but has a lot more survivability in comparison than either. Plenty of blocks, a second healing skill, higher base armor etc. Tbh, guardian can cover a tank-role as well, but is not the best at it.

It’s most likely a stealth res with function gyro, as the stealth covers the gyro as well. And it stays stealthed for a long time since it can’t attack anything or deal damage in any way.

The easy answer would be Power Warrior. Seriously you hit condi war like 4 or 5 times and they die. Power warrior hits like a bloody truck. You kite the other war when they have Defy/Endure Pain on, and with Signet of Might you can basically ignore their blocks. Ez as pie.

I think you could’ve doubled the Quickness duration on Sigil of Agility without doubling the cooldown. Quickness is not a powerful boon in PvP. The only real use for it is down-cleaving. And nobody will equip a sigil for that purpose.

As ANet has recently been doing QoL improvements for unused skills and utilities, I would like to forward some suggestions regarding the guardian staff. Some things on this list I’ve posted earlier on a different thread but these are the revised versions. I’ve also kept this thread focused on a single subject.

1. Wave of Wrath – Added functionality as it now heals allies as well by 125 healing baseline, 0.05 scaling from healing power. Damage reduced by 20%. Targets allies and enemies independently, 5 target limit on both.

If somebody doesn’t know how healing power scales, 0.05 basically means gaining 50 healing from 1000 healing power. At 2000 healing power that would be 100 more healing, for example.

2. Orb of Light – I actually have 3 different suggestions as follows.
A. Merge it with the detonation and allow us to ground target this skill. Cooldown 8ish seconds. This would be the easiest QoL improvement, as it doesn’t entirely change how this skill functions.
B. Have it bounce between foes and allies, damaging foes and healing allies. 750ish damage/healing per bounce baseline. 4 bounces with a bounce range of 300. Initial range remains the same. Cooldown 8ish seconds. This is my least favorite idea but posted it because well.. There’s never too many ideas.
C. The entirely original idea for a new skill. Remove Orb of Light in favor of:
Anvil of Light – Call down a column of holy fire that heals allies and damages foes
Damage x4: 552
Healing x4: 285 (Healing Power scaling 0.175)
Duration: 3 seconds
Radius: 180
Combo Field: Fire
Range: 1200
Casting time: 1 s
Cooldown: 10 seconds
This would bring some powercreep to the staff, but is it enough to overshadow other weapons? I don’t know. This is obviously my favorite as it’s my own idea. Inspired by Smite Monks of GW1 and Lava Font. ^^

3. Symbol of Swiftness.
Standing still to gain more speed? Let’s face it, this skill has never been particularly good at what it’s supposed to do.
So, I propose replacing the Swiftness with Resistance(1s per pulse), and increasing the skills cooldown to 25s. I also think that the symbols uptime should be reduced to 3s, down from 4. The damage should be re-adjusted to do the same amount in a shorter time but it would cut down the resi uptime to 4s baseline. That would be 5s with the staff trait, 7.2s with it and WoP; 6s with WoP alone. (WoP = Writ of Persistence)
The name could be changed to reflect the new functionality, Symbol of Tenacity maybe?
PS. I considered Quickness for this as well but came to the conclusion that it synergizes way too well with other guard aspects, and with Chronomancer and Herald for raiding. The only option would’ve been to have a 40+ seconds of cooldown in order to avoid 100% easy uptime for 5 people, which is too much for a weapon skill either way.

4. Empower – This is quite simple, the Swiftness that I removed from #3 is now here. It pulses along with the Might, 4s per pulse. I would also like this skill to be unrooted. The base healing could be better as well.

5. Line of Warding – I feel like the numbers for this are on point for what it does, and I really can’t think of anything more that would make this skill feel unique, so I’m content to leave it as it is.

Any questions, criticisms or feedback? Let me know, I’m open to suggestions. I might be tunnel visioning, and missing some obvious problems.

I won a guild football match for our team because of Banish + JI so I am pretty happy with it currently. Was also playing goalkeeper with Ring of Warding + Dragon’s Maw, so I’m pretty happy with those too.

Everyone would run cele if it was reintroduced. Have fun fighting cele warrior or cele reaper

would not run cele on warrior, it’s not worth. still other professions would use it.

The Mace/Sh & GS build would be much stronger with Cele due to the insane condi application and sustain from healing power stat

healing power is not needed for AH. nor are defensive stats. the whole point of the GS build is to pump out a ton of damage, using cele defeats the point.

if you want hybrid damage viper or sinister would be the way to go.

Or destroyer. Honestly I don’t see warriors current builds benefiting from celestial, as healing power and the other defense stats are pointless for it. Even macebow would essentially become too weak on the offense side.

The most likely classes to benefit from celestial would be elementalist, engineer and mesmer. For engineers it would likely be for a gimmicky/alternative build as Paladin and Mender alrdy provide everything needed for power scrappers.

I will never get tired of repeating this: this game needs players vs bots mode. Surely bots are easy to win against but it is great way to learn very basics of pvp. LoL has bots mode, OW has bots mode – those are first games i spammed to learn the game and classes and i think this is what gw2 needs.

GW2’s PvP is for casuals. Not competitive players. Accept it.

I read the same thing on every video game forum I read, seriously… and even thoses with moneyprice…
but you know what? some moba are clearly MORE casu-friendly than gw2, by far. Some mmo too (like Wow).

I will eat my boots before believing WoW PvP is casual friendly. I’ve played that game. GW2 PvP has a learning curve yeah, but you can start doing that at level 2(when you leave the starting instance). And you can get decent at it by the time you hit the level cap. In WoW that is your starting point…

Leveling Guardian

1st Emphasis: Mobility
-When leveling, mobility above everything else. It will make going from place to place that much easier. Hence the 2 shouts that give Swiftness, Judge’s Intervention, Greatsword(#3) and Sword(#2) on the off-set.
Remember to ditch “Save Yourselves!” when entering group content such as dungeons(important to remember as when used wrong, this is a suicide button), or if you go for Pure of Voice in Honor as then Retreat can cover your Swiftness needs. Equip another shout or a meditation in it’s stead. Bane Signet or Purging Flames work as well.

2nd Emphasis: Damage
-Gear for maximum DPS which means power, precision, ferocity and condi damage, importance in that order. You don’t need vitality, healing or toughness until you are level 80 and go to HoT maps, arguably not even after that. Guard is a burst class so don’t hold back your weapon skills. Sword 2+3 will most likely drop a single foe instantly even in HoT maps. When your cooldowns are up, swap weapons.

I put a focus in the link, but torch might be better, and certainly my preferred choice.

3rd Emphasis: Traits
-This is where guards defense comes from. Go for either Honor or Virtues 1st, Zeal 2nd and then you can go for whatever as 3rd. Honor for self-healing and PoV (better Swiftness uptime), Virtues for a variety of utilities.

For early levels/starter zones: As these zones have higher population densities than later maps, you can equip a staff for the purpose of mob tagging in events, especially popular ones like Svanir Shaman.

Advice for leveling in general:
-Use every XP boost you possibly can. Foods and buffs that give +exp, XP Boosters you can use atleast 2 different ones at a time, guild xp buff, and there’s Lunar fireworks too.
-Do events rather than sticking around hearts. If you can get both, even better! Hero Points also provide lots of XP, and vistas, when they are easily available, are easy XP.

Because they would be too great. Sigils aren’t meant to influence gameplay that much. Sigils shouldn’t be build-defining but instead be complementary. I will never agree to 5s cd to a Boon Removal sigil, as it would be stupidly strong.

I’d like to add one more thing.

If tournaments are a bust,(whether free or paid) the queues MUST be separated. Separate 5v5 and solo queue. No ifs, ands or buts. Separate queues are going to be the only thing keeping pvp alive.

I respectfully disagree. Frequent and rewarding tournaments are going to be the future for teams of 5 players. If the tournaments get successful at some point, and there are plenty of teams competing in them, THEN can ANet start to think about re-establishing TeamQ. Currently PvP doesn’t have the population to support a full mode for teams exclusively.

One of the more important things concerning these Tournaments is that they need high visibility in the game. So much so that even the most uninterested person in the game is atleast aware of these tournaments going on. Just like the when seasons are active. They need to be posted here in the forums, and in Reddit, there needs to be a news headline in the launcher every time a tourney is announced. Also in-game notifications for people that go into the PvP lobby.

Yes! Please do that. Immobilize already feels weak, a sigil to get rid of it will actually make immobs useless.

If you were to bring in the On Interrupt sigils, I think Revelation might work much better there. Imagine the situation as a thief when you are low health, and use stealth to escape, now do you risk healing and getting interrupted by a scrappers Thunderclap, or do you just run away and hope nobody hits you in the meantime? I think it would bring much better counterplay and not be too powerful at the same time.

But at this point, since there’s been no mention of On Interrupt sigils, I’m not too hopeful we’ll be getting them any time soon.

On – hit sigils mean that conditions will be rapidly re-applied. This will make condition cleansing basically useless.

We’ll see an all power dps situation. The damage will be seriously increased for all classes. So we’ll be right back to the old “zerker” meta that ANET was so concerned about changing a year or two ago.

No bunker or condi build is going to withstand constantly applied bleed or what-have-you.

This idea is a step backward, not forward.

Says the mesmer who can block most of those attacks, and make the rest useless with small, constant cleanses. In fact, several classes can do that, including warriors and guardians.

Not having ground level tournaments is the reason why ESports evaporated. You can confirm from any actual sports team that a working junior organization is the key to success. When you can build and support your players from the ground up, you have what it takes.

Probably Strength and Compounding/Punishment/Cleansing for a primary set, Cleansing and Revelation for secondary. Depends on build. For Symbolic I wouldn’t use Cleansing but for the others it’s nice. About bloody time Cleansing came to PvP.

Because it’s a Racial skill. If you have one race better then others then you’d have people complaining about having to swap or unfair advantages. It’s not a plug and play like any normal skills.

Also on a side note if they added something like that it’s a lot of extra skills they’d have to make

PVP Unwanted Loot

Agreed, it is a bit of a first world problem. To those who say “just salvage and etc…” I don’t have salvage kits. I don’t even have bags. I don’t want to PVE or anything like that – just PVP. Why can’t I just PVP without having to clear my inventory out on login/after one match and every match after that. Its just a ridiculous hassle.

The ability to opt out of reward tracks and or dailies should be easy to implement and provide much relief.

Consider buying a Copper-Fed-Salvage-O-Matic from the gem store, and you will never have to buy another salvage kit again if you put it into your shared inv slot. Seriously, it is something you can control right now instead of waiting for a patch 4 months from now. This change is very unlikely since the vast majority of ppl don’t care. You aren’t the 1st person to ask for it. And buy some bags, the 10 or 12 slotted ones are not expensive.

The “But I don’t want to…”-argument is fine when those things are in your control but in this case things are not in your control. I suggest you give in and adapt a bit or else you are going to be unhappy for a very long time.

What Sigil of Revelation will do is eliminate the use of Stealth Gyro for engineers, and Shadow Refuge for thieves. Since they are a visible sign of: “Somebody is in stealth here.”

Evan, pls consider adding 2 more On-Hit sigils. 1 for direct damage application and 1 for healing/sustain. Something like 300-500 damage for 1 target every 5 seconds, and a similar number as healing for 5 allies every 6-7 seconds. (these would be Sigils of Air and Water)

Also give the passive sigils another round of thinking. I think both of the new sigils should have an upper cap of 7-10%, so they would be situationally useful, and not just a downgrade from Sigil of Force. I also think you should keep Sigil of Force and Sigil of Bursting, and as they are. And give us Sigil of Malice, it can replace all of the previous +Condi duration sigils.
