Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.

And rather than inflicting Blind, it should inflict a short Weakness. Would be more on theme with a Dark Aura.
Overlap with poison field leap and blast. Most fields tends to have [{Blast(area effect X),Leap(single-target effect X)}{Projectile(single-target effect Y },Whirl(area effect Y)}].
Only and water really break this having 3 of the effects be X. Lightning fields ..well im glad it doesnt since nobody would want blasted aoe daze or leaping shocking aura.
I was talking about an aura, not the field. So no, it wouldn’t overlap. Getting an aura that inflicts Weakness is different to poison fields inflicting Weakness on Combo Finisher.
But as Auras tend to have an offensive proc and a boon, neither blind nor weakness makes much sense if it already lifesteals when struck. I’m of the mind if they would make the lifesteal strong enough, it doesn’t need much else in it.

I don’t have access to 2h sword yet and I only have “of the Necromancer” gear and only 90 gold on my account. Should I just stick with the gear or buy something with power and vitality?
You get an exotic Berserker Greatsword when you start Reaper ESpec for the 1st time on your account and an exotic head armor piece when you finish it. So those are 2 pieces you shouldn’t worry about. Just head in and find a Hero Point train, or recruit a friend/guildie to do them with you. Ppl tend to be friendly to new people in the jungle if you just let them know.
Btw, Necromancer runes are horrible, so get rid of them as soon as you have an armor set you feel comfortable in.
Why would Kormir disguise herself as Lazarus? So GW1 fans don’t try to kill her?
Because if you have a charr protagonist, for example, you would be deeply distrusting of a human god. A mursaat is a more neutral figure, as they are more removed from recent history.
As a separate point, mursaat are not exactly evil but they don’t adhere to the same moral guidelines as humans do either. The reason why they were such great antagonists is that they are morally grey and a bit alien too.
You can turn gold into gems and buy LWS2 with that method. When you are new, that may seem an unreasonable goal but it really isn’t all that hard to do. Just requires some intense farming and fractals.
Guardian is a good pick for any mode, a great pick for PvP and WvW. For raiding guard is the 3rd highest power DPS but the most reliable one as mediocre eles and thieves tend to get themselves killed too often.
There’s The Dreamer, and a Zodiac weapon skin. That’s all I know of.
Come to think of it, does anyone ride anything? The occasional war machine, including some vehicles car-like enough for drunk norn and charr to go joyriding, but that’s all that comes to mind. Animals seem to be exclusively freight.
More common in GW1, I think, as there were Stone Summit riding dolyaks, and there were also Skeletal Horsemen.
I think we should’ve had Dark Aura at launch as we had Light Aura, so they would’ve been anti-thesis to each other. And rather than inflicting Blind, it should inflict a short Weakness. Would be more on theme with a Dark Aura.
Rebelling in Harathi Hinterlands.
I mean, I don’t think we’ve ever seen horses in gw1, they weren’t in view even before the searing
There are indications that horses do/did exist in Tyria. Centaur relations with horses is speculated, there are places named after them, etc. I mean, if horses never existed, how would they know what a horse is?
Has anyone else noticed the mysterious lack of horses in the game? They certainly mention horses in item names and names of places but there are no horses anywhere in Tyria. Not a single one.
Could the Tyrian breed of horses have gone extinct in the Searing? Ascalon seems like the most likely natural habitat for horses in this game. Yet there aren’t any.
Well, if there are no scepter guardians or staff elementalists in your raid group, PP off-set is good for clearing orbs on Gorse.
Honestly, all of the “when attuning to X”-traits are really weak. There should be a trait in Arcane to make to all of these more powerful, or they should just be buffed up.

In response to the OP, it would have been interesting if open world PvE had as an option something like a challenge mode, where a player could choose to make the mobs of their level a bit harder.
There would be 2 potential problems with that — first, that “harder” should not mean more health, more damage, more defense but that the AI plays the mobs smarter. That would take a bit of coding work. Second, it would create a problem for grouping. The whole group would have to be in challenge mode or not. you couldn’t have a mix.
A challenge mode would actually make leveling a new toon kind of interesting, but as many have pointed out, the decision by the devs in this game is that it starts at lev 80, and they’re pretty much committed to that it seems
The thing is they would have to make Challenge Mode maps separate from normal maps, dividing the population between the 2. Like they did in GW1 but there that wasn’t a problem as the maps were always separate instances created for you and your party.
Dear OP, tell me what class/build can deal with warrior without external help and without losing point. According to you it is a l2p issue so teach us, noobs, how to deal with war.
I beat warriors 1v1 regularly with a corruption power necro, especially the GS warriors go down easily. And I can facetank most warriors for a while. The macebow variant warrior is a much tougher win as you can’t deny the LB burst skill.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQRBHbhG2JHNQtNYNNg5mA9mYBXwo6CthvQcVsLGGhuaBgDAA-TZBGABIcSA2vMQAPAgQ2fAgjAAA
If you intend to 1v1 on close/far in a match, you may want to swap “Suffer!” for Plague Signet or Well of Power. Also swap Augury for Chilling Nova.
I always thought Utopia sounded like an April Fool’s joke, and whaddaya know, the release date was supposed to be in APRIL.
Warrior will you give the most flexibility in all fields.
Warrior’s have a decent position in all fields, and if you take a traitline with Phalanx Strength you can support any party composition be they raids, fractals or dungeons.Next up, I would say Guardian and Necromancer are doing okay as well, Necromancers will be your best choice if you want easy access to fractals. While Guardians will be slightly better than necromancers if pvp is your forté.
Necromancers aren’t very welcome in raids who want to do things quickly, but they’re not completely absolete either. You can run necro if you find social or welcoming raiding groups. But I suggest warrior as they are pretty much required for raids. The one thing i am afraid with the warrior is that, as many people say, the class is boring and i am afraid that if that’s the case i’ll have to drop him later…
If you don’t think warrior is boring now, you will likely enjoy it a while longer. Personally I got bored of warrior after about 10 hours of playing it. I still do it for pvp as I think there’s no class that’s boring there.
As a guard main I’m a bit biased but I do think guard is one the best classes to play atm as it’s welcome in all content including fractals, raids, wvw and pvp.
They actually fixed this problem to some degree in the expansion zones, where mobs have mechanics to them that the player is expected to counter.
Sadly most player’s response to this was to whine how “hard” it was.
Yet none of those enemies is truly challenging either. The only way you die is really when you get overwhelmed.
From what I have heard Guardian, Thief and Engi aren’t allowed into raid parties.
That is totally a thing from a year ago. Those are 3 of the 4 DPS classes you really want in a raid. Thief and Guard for power DPS, for condi you want ranger and engi. (ele is still the best if the player is good, but good ele players are truly rare)
On another note chronos(mesmer), druids(ranger) and warriors are all wanted for raids, and they are all great classes for pvp as well. Revenant and necromancer are in a bad place atm in pve, in pvp they are good enough when played well. Revenant however is the most difficult to play class atm so you won’t hear much hype when revving in pvp.
I completely agree with you on this point. However when other MMORPGs do Questing, Story, and Graphics better then you. That’s when you have a issue.
I don’t think any other MMO does any of those things better than GW2 does. Especially graphics, but as those are basically irrelevant to my generation of gamers anyway. I still play a game that was published in 2001, and it’s still one of my favorite games. But that is just my opinion.
I like the idea of moving swiftness to staff 5, however it doesn’t leave many options for the symbol. Perhaps pulsing Aegis? The amount of pulses can be adjusted.
I think empower is fine as it is. You can’t move while channeling, but the radius is pretty big for an aoe heal.
Orb of Light needs a rework, projectile detonation is an awful mechanic. If it was made ground targeted, the detonation part can stay though (the orb can stay at the targeted location for 1 sec, giving you time to detonate it).
I like that but just makes me think too much of mesmers focus #4. Why I opted to throw it into Empower rather than Line of Warding.
I think 1 of the better ideas would be have Orb of Light detonate on its own rather than the player detonating it. Like Ancestral Grace, just the player doesn’t move.
The improtant things is : We can’t see any hope here. They haven’t response, communicate, promise, news, plans ……kitten that! Player have too many choices on the market today. Why they stay in here, in a hopeless dying game?
No, that’s totally not true. Within the MMO market, GW2 is easily among the top4. It’s just the pvp that’s slowly being killed. And pvp is not the main attraction in MMO’s. People that do PvP have a warped perspective in the whole affair.
(edited by Yannir.4132)
I want a poleaxe/halberd.
I think transfering conditions would be a stupid mechanic for a boss, as ONLY necros can really do it en mass. Boon stripping is better as it can be done by many other professions as well. However necros just do it better.
Obviously a trick question. Correct answer is The Moot!
Trick question deserves a trick answer. You really like the Disco Stick?
Moot used to be my favorite stump to kick, now there’s Eureka so my beef is over.
I personally use this build from metabattle:
https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_Frontline_Sustain
I have adapted a few things to more suit my playstyle. A. I use Corruption instead of Devastation. B. I use S/A instead of Staff.
PS. Plan for WvW if you intend to use rev there, for PvE anything goes. They mostly use the same gear anyway.
- I guess it’s fine. Reflect would be nice too.
I considered this but it didn’t make the cut. Would kinda make Wall of Reflection obsolete.
4) elite specs need to go from pvp, period.
You have to realize that this is totally and utterly off the table, so it’s not even worth debating. The sooner you come to grips with that, the better.
3) this game needs bot mode. 5v5 match vs 5 bots. Yes, it is easy, yes it is farmable but it would teach players basics better than some NPCs saying couple lines.
I was actually about to mention that in a later post, and I agree.
What exactly is a dodge-jump?
My vote would be to make it back to something similar to how it was at the launch of HoT where chill does damage itself. That way simply stacking more chillmancers isn’t always the most optimal and has a damage trade-off.
But that’s exactly why it was changed to its current iteration, and while we have splits between game modes, that won’t affect the core functionality of a trait/skill. That means they can only play around with duration, cooldown and number of stacks. If they change it back to chill doing damage again, that change will affect it in all game modes. And that would gut condi necros in pvp and pve.
Yea but they only balance for PvE and condi reaper was getting shafted there because of conflicting chill stacks, so it won’t happen.
Operating on the pretense they’ll do anything for WvW in terms of class balance and design is setting yourself up for disappointment.
Were you replying to me or Helly? If you replied to me, I’m confused.
The leaderboard doesn’t change all the time AFAIK but in cycles. What I don’t know is how often those are.
PS. You made this topic twice, remove the other one.
Not exactly GW2 but Simon, in the Netflix show Shadowhunters: The Mortals Instruments, has a Guild Wars: Eye of the North poster that caught my eye. ^^
Cannot keep up with my thief buddy
Thief has the most mobility out of all classes, you cannot expect to keep up with them on any other class. This is not a guardian issue, you just need to ask your friend to not move so kitten fast.
ArenaNet has been doing the right things lately for PvP, improving on the overall systems and rewards, but still PvP population is dwindling. The most telling thing for this is the amount of legendary division players. I understand there are 0 ppl there in NA, and only 3-4 players in EU. Compared to the previous season where EU had around 40-50 legendary division players.
The question I’m asking is what can ANet do to fix things and the dwindling population? Mind you that these things don’t directly apply to ranked. I made a list of things in no particular order:
1. Personal goals for players outside ranked.
- Playing exclusively necromancer, and have your Champion Phantom title? Congratz, you have nothing to look forward to until you’ve won 10 000 matches. That goal seems and feels unobtainable to most players.
- What I would like is more achievements there in between these 2 goals, and some PvP exclusive skins/items rewarded for them.
- Achievements/reward tracks shouldn’t be the only thing to aim for. With the recent unlocking of ranks beyond 80, something should be done with it.
2. Mode diversity.
- Tired of conquest? Too bad, there’s nothing else to do. A bit of exaggeration here but seriously, we have 2 other modes besides Conquest. Start supporting/developing them as people are fed up with sitting on nodes.
- Deathmatch and Stronghold modes need more maps, and Deathmatch needs to be re-introduced to unranked matches. Give it a checkbox like you have with Stronghold.
- Variety keeps people interested. Maybe some new modes could be introduced as well.
- What’s also needed is 1-man and 10-man content for PvP, but honestly that’s a deal for an expansion.
3. The learning curve, and accessibility in general.
- It’s hard for new players to get into PvP. Or even older players that never did PvP before.
- An in-depth tutorial is needed. It should introduce all of the maps and their mechanics, and they should allow you to explore the maps to your leisure.
- Hotjoin. It’s harder to get into hotjoins than unranked, yet unranked is supposed to be the stepping stone for ranked, not a place to teach complete newbies.
- We need a 3rd queue to precede unranked, maybe until you reach rank 10. Unranked would be intended for ranks 10-40, ranked would only be accessible after rank 40 is reached. I have an idea how to run this with extremely low population but that’s a topic onto itself and will discuss it in a later post.
4. Build diversity and class balance.
- This has been getting better during the last year. Still not as good as it should be.
- Skill splitting needs to continue.
- Balance patches need to come in small, more frequent doses. Rather change something overperforming now than later when 15 people quit PvP because of it, and 5 of them never come back. It will also keep things from overshooting as happened with the revenant.
- Tbh, I expect ANet to improve upon this point with the next expansion, and we shouldn’t keep our hopes up for anything major to happen until then.
5. Support for teamplay.
- Automated tournaments. Whether that’s every 2 weeks, 3 weeks or monthly, it still needs to happen. People want to play with their friends, even in PvP. Currently there’s little reason to do so, unless it’s for some fun, guild missions or duoing in ranked. Even with just in-game prizes like Black Lion Tickets/Keys or whatever, it will attract people.
- Another point for this is that it needs to be more thought out than our current system. The PvP rooms aren’t good enough for continuous tournaments. I’d suggest another lobby for them but that has a host of other issues to resolve.

That sounds more like a legendary shoulder piece than anything else. Else it’s not really worth all the animation work. A single animation like Nightfury or Winter’s Presence is comparatively simple to do, unlike the changing animation pattern you are suggesting.
I do like the idea but it’s just a lot of work for very little value.
The only change I would make is trebs not doing damage to downed players.
Honestly, it would be easy to design an encounter that almost screams for necros. Just make a breakbar phase where the boss starts healing, pulsing stability(that would prevent BB damage until removed) and dealing PBAoE damage. Where other professions remove boons, only necromancers corrupt stability into fear. It’s a boon rip and breakbar damage all in one neat package.
Thanks guys. At first I thought the animation didn’t match one of the condi transfer skills while testing it in the PVP lobby but now I know beter.
The first video he clearly was attacking the guards of which you ran towards and he epi’d them. Pretty kitten clear.
The 2nd video he only had 3 stacks of bleeding on you… 25vuln stacks tho.
There was 21 stacks of bleeding, he just got lucky with a condi clear and cleansed it half a second later. That 3 you are looking at is poison.
Ye, I got lucky the 21 bleed stacks got nearly instant cleansed by either transmute (trait) or sigil of cleansing, later on he gave me another 3 stacks of bleeding though (Gideon didn’t mean the poison stacks) .
Oh right. That’s true. My bad.
I think people here are kind of over-estimating what a smoke field would give necros. And if we were to talk about a single use skill without a field, the absolute max stealth it would give, would be like 4 or 5 seconds, and that’s not exactly ghost thief levels.
Necros have a grand total of 3 Blast Finishers, which are all kind of unwieldy. Out of which 1(staff #4) is completely unusable for stacking stealth. The other 2(Flesh Wurm and Minions) kinda take away from what you want to use stealth for as they both occupy your utility slots(and break stealth immediately if there are enemies around you). Further, Reaper only has a single Leap Finisher, and that’s in RS. A necro has 0 leaps.
You could factor in other classes but what’s the point? All they really need to do now is group up with a thief, and alrdy do the things talked about here. That said, I don’t think necromancers would actually benefit from either option without a new ESpec built around it.
My vote would be to make it back to something similar to how it was at the launch of HoT where chill does damage itself. That way simply stacking more chillmancers isn’t always the most optimal and has a damage trade-off.

I think both sides here are right in some cases. We need longer cds, but we need shorter cds as well. For example, I would be totally fine with True Shot having a 10 or more seconds of cd if it still did what it used to do. And that’s deal damage. On the other hand you have Signet of Courage with its ridiculously long cd.
Having no capes is not an oversight, it’s intentional design. Unless they plan to do it as a guild feature at some unspecified point.
I’ll second this! The whole shabang is just annoying and tedious.
Events in Orr seem kinda stale when you go there, they should be on a much faster loop. And they bug out so easily.
They should work just fine, you don’t even need to transmute them back to the original skin.
In soloQ, DH and warriors are my least favorite team mates. Because everybody keeps talking about how “OP” they are, many players tend to play them even when they have 0 experience with the class, and aren’t too great at PvP in general. Some just have misguided ideas about what they are supposed to be doing. That makes them the most unreliable team mates.
Frankly, this isn’t a DH/guard issue at all. A burnguard is powerful and fun to play but it has serious weaknesses in exchange for that. They don’t have cover condis, so even the most basic condi clear will remove the burn, it is up to the player to see that. It and other builds are quite easily countered by unblockable skills and just plain good timing and positioning.
Engineers and mesmers on the other hand are my favorites, because most ppl in the steering wheel of those classes know what they are doing.
You know what would help balance a lot? Delete Trapper runes.
Really? Out of all the things you bring out trapper runes? At best, trapper runes are a niche.
5 starter areas is 4 more than in some other games.
Tbh I get by easily enough with 60-80 inventory slots per alt character, and don’t even need a bank guy. However I do most of PvE with my main who has 70-80 slots filled permanently. None of it is useless crap as I’m quite good at inventory management.
Key ring and an account-wide inventorial wallet to put my berries in would be my top picks here. 30 slot bags would be nice too, but that’s truly just a bandage.
