So a burst Thief didn’t have the damage to kill you, but a 800 per hit SB Thief did?
You can’t win 1vX in this game because of the downed system. Still, load up on stealth and stealth stomp people.
Berserker stance doubling should be a nice buff too. Just saw a warrior get away from a zerg of 15+ with a commander all chasing. Got away without a scratch almost.
Is warrior mobility being underestimated?
I think pretty much anybody knows that Warrior is fast. Not as fast as Thief or Ele, but he’s fast enough.
The problem is that big escapes rely on Rush and if you have Cripple and/or Chill on yourself then Rush is barely going to move you.
How does one not cluster on a point when winning the game is about standing on said point?
Nothing. Build for damage. Warrior is the only class that can’t be a Bunker, because he lacks essential survivability mechanics.
You will never defeat another class that plays competently. Maybe a Ranger. The non-BM variant.
Almost starting to think he has a cult
lol This
But there are pretty much no GW2 streamers or video makers anymore, so everyone counts.
I mean, personally I don’t think it should be changed because it’s great (for fun) the way it is. It just shouldn’t be a tourney map.
This is what makes me frustrated.
I like the map (sort of), but it’s built around an inherently frustrating mechanic. You need to be taking a break fromr it and right now we’re forced to play it all the time or go Hotjoin.
Mostly agree.
Flurry also deals less damage than auto attack, at least for power builds (although, I’m pretty sure the same stands true for Condi builds), and you could be regenerating Adrenaline with normal swings, rather than hitting with Flurry.
Some of our traits also don’t make sense, like Distracting Strikes requiring an interrupt, while none of our Condi weapons have interrupts and taking Physical skills just to make this traits work is a giant waste.
Obviously people complaining about warriors haven’t seen the damage warriors can do on this map.
No, they can’t. Especially not Engies. All an Engineer has to do is, again, hug the door and DPS you down. You can never kill an Engineer in pure melee as a Warrior.
Uh no, warriors can easily escape through the portal before the engineer dps them down. And come back 5 seconds later. Warriors have very good stability and will prevent a lot of the engineer’s crowd control.
So you walk away and allow the cannon holder to take another shot? He will heal up as well, you know.
As for Warriors, it’s the age-old question of “why bring someone that can do one thing well, when another one can do it best?”. Necro and Engie are way superior to Warriors in the cannon room, plus they can still fight well even with their cheesy push builds, unlike a Warrior that has to slot Stomp, Fear Me and equip a Rifle.
Quit bashing the playtesters just because you got stomped in Skyhammer.
Don’t defend a broken map, just because you play an overpowered class.
one of the biggest complaints i see here is “it forces people into a specific setup”.
am i the only one that thinks this is an ideal scenario? each map forcing you to make use of a different setup and strategy to make the best of it is how maps should be.
of course, there’s the issue of “well guardians are excellent at CC and counter CC” and other complaints regarding “this class is better for this map”. honestly? CC isn’t everything, and you only need one well timed use of it anyway, the rest is bonus. you can still win this map without using CC for everything.
You can win this map without CC? It’s like saying that you can win Kyhlo without Treb. If the enemy isn’t using it, sure. But they will.
Wonderful map.
- Shifts build from DPS / condition overload to CC / positioning (fresh change). Takes time to adapt, unless you played CC heavy class.
- The map IS competitive. There is no RNG involved, you have to outplay and out-position enemies. Requires much more skills IMHO than typical DPS/condition overload, as you also need to be aware of positioning AND potential CC abilities of your foe.
No. It only empowered Engineers and Necromancers even further, because there’s no place to dodge their area-denial, you’re also forced to eat all Necro’s marks and get shot by all turrets at once, getting a ton of conditions and an Immobilize.
Oh and guess which classes have easy access to CC and Stab.
Hi, Engineer or Necro.
My Thief has no CCs and Scorpion Wire doesn’t pull people onto glass in the cannon room.
But that’s besides the point. Skyhammer just isn’t fun. First, it greatly favors not only certain specs, but certain classes, mainly Engies and Necros. If you don’t have them in your team and your enemy does, it’s game over.
And another dozen of reasons…
The map would be fine as a hotjoin map. I’d just skip it and move my merry way. Those who find it fun can go play it there, but please, at least let tPvP maps be about actual fighting other players.
“fighting other players” What are you fighting bots? no matter how it is done you are still fighting other players. every CC is avoidable. That all takes into account your skill in determining what your opponent is using and staying in position. ESPECIALLY as a thief you should have zero issues with this. and even when you do get out of position your accessibility to blind will pretty much halt most incoming launches.
It will halt some, but not all. Especially considering that the blind is a small AoE.
Necromancers simply put down wells and marks and then spam fear. A Thief can’t counter that, what you need to do is move out of the melee range and have Stab, otherwise you un-hug the door and get free-feared.
Warriors have some pretty good access to stability, make use of it! Necros can easily be cc’d and engis can too somewhat but may be hard to catch.
No, they can’t. Especially not Engies. All an Engineer has to do is, again, hug the door and DPS you down. You can never kill an Engineer in pure melee as a Warrior.
So I purposely stood in front of a glass pane, spectral grasped a chick on the glass then dagger 3’d her. Lol
Love terrormancer on this map so many fears, and ways to run people off the edge.
Hope you got lots of stability!
This type of people are the only ones who like it. Necros and Engies, who like easy kills and being overpowered.
Players are getting instagibbed because they don’t know how to position because they never had a map that required it before. Then they cry on the Forums about it.
Nothing new.
All you need to do is hug the door, then you can’t be feared off the ledge. Then it’s about having ranged knockbacks or fears or not. If you do – you win, if you don’t… well, you know.
Yeah… I’d like to see those internal testers. I mean, Skyhammer is fun… for the first 3-4 games. And it’s fun as a Hotjoin map and if the enemy doesn’t have a pair of dedicated cannoneers, because the match becomes a steamroll at that point.
I can only assume that those testers are either not active players, so they just liked jump pads and found some fall damage deaths funny and just left the testing booth, or they tested it for like 15 minutes, before both getting sick of it and discovering how frustrating it can be during certain scenarios.
Warrior is decent in that map. Get Rifle, Fear Me, Stomp and some Stab. Spam it and hope for the best, hug the door while waiting for cooldowns.
Don’t play 8v8 servers. In fact, don’t play servers at all, go straight for the tournaments.
Not right now though.
Skyhammer is… a special map.
Stack Protection and Retal. Wait. Do all you can to outlast him.
You will not kill a Thief, though. He will generally outheal your damage or escape and reset the fight.
Typical Necro bunker-killer will kill you without looking at you. He will place a few big AoEs on top of himself and go make some tea or something.
Competitive? The first rule of a game being successful is it has to be fun. Balance is secondary to fun, and mind you, I play a warrior… I know all about poor balance.
It is assumed that this is an e-sports.
I enjoy if I can be competitive. How you can have fun on a map where luck plays for you?
It’s no e-sport. Never has been and never will be.
This map doesn’t encourage new builds, it pigeon holes people into certain CC/Stab builds and if their classes lack those – they’re screwed.
Place pickables on the map that give 20+ seconds of Stab.
I dont particularly have any ideas on what this would be
Thieves are supposed to be a finesse fighter, at least for looks. Holding let alone using an offhand sword would be terribly awkward, unbalancing, etc. Might as well ask why Thieves don’t get a big 2H hammer as well.
I suppose there is probably some anime or something you guys are basing this duel wielding sword shenanigans off of, but that shouldn’t be a factor.
Awkward and imbalanced? I’d like to direct you to exibit A.
Isn’t your character supposed to be amazing and train every day? If someone were to train every day with 2 swords, they’d get used to fighting with 2 swords. There’s quite a few flashy sword styles with 2 swords but I didn’t want to link some Japanese person doing form or crap videos like Hidden Tiger or w/e it’s called.
Using two swords is like using two pistols. Looks cool (to some) and uneducated people think you can learn to do it, but it’s just bad and impractical.
Here’s a little list of my ideas, most of which I consider simple quality of life updates.
Rush
Rush’s been somewhat buggy and unreliable for a long time. How about this: make it so we can cancel Rush at any time, doing an 360 degree AoE attack at the spot. This way we won’t be missing it so much, since we will be able to manually control it.
Arcing Slice
The skill is never used, because we have an easy access to Fury through FGJ! and SoR, which is out most popular Elite, especially in PvP.
While you can’t make it a hard CC or a powerful single-hit attack, why not make it a defensive skill? Perhaps something similar to Ranger’s Whirling Defense?
Counterblow
This skill is almost impossible to hit in PvP. It would be great if it was changed into what Guardian’s have on their Protector’s Strike, which is an AoE type attack with some increased range.
Kill Shot
Make it so we can cancel the charge time of the shot, dealing reduced damage instead. The skill’s usefulness in PvP is greatly diminished, because it’s just too slow to hit an enemy.
Kick
The skill is in an awkward spot of being a melee skill that knocks back, making it useless for ranged builds and awkward for melee. Make it a 1/2 Stun instead of a knockback, it will make it a great interrupt and certainly much more useful.
Staggering Blow
Allow us to be able to move slowly, while using the skill, similar to the Guardian’s Whirling Wrath. As it stands now, the skill is impossible to land unless the target is already CC’d, which greatly limits it’s usefulness.
Dual Strike
Make it hit harder or faster. Right now using it is hardly a DPS gain, even without considering that we can access Fury easily outside of it.
OH Sword
Both of the skills are very underwhelming. While Riposte might have its uses after the buff, it’s still incredibly hard to land in PvP. Keeping in rhyme with my previous suggestions, perhaps it would be feasible to reduce the amount of Bleeds it applies and remake the after-block effects into a quick AoE attack.
Impale is very unreliable and takes a lot of time to ramp up. Rip is very slow and deals low damage, even with a pure power build. How about you make Rip into a pull? It’s a major buff, but the weapon doesn’t see any play in PvP akittens current state. An effect like that would make a great addition to a Warrior’s arsenal, which is still fairly limited when it comes to countering kiting.
Distracting Strikes
This trait is in Power and relies on Mace/Hammer while dealing Condition Damage. None of these mash up particularly well, making it a very unappealing Trait.
Either make it Daze a target for 1/2 seconds with a ~10s ICD, or make it deal 1-1.5k (on a full Bers build) direct damage on a successful interrupt.
Increased sustain suggestion
A new defensive Trait that would keep the passive effect of the Healing Signet on after we used the active. It will give Warriors some of the needed sustain.
I want PvP, not Players vs Floors.
It’s fun, but I want something less cheesy and one-dimensional from time to time. The fact it’s the only map in the rotation is what spawns so much hate.
And what then? Everything will be dominated by Necros and Mesmers. The only balancing factor that kind of makes this game have a semblance of balance is that you need to stand on little points, plus that killing matters less than completing an objective. Several classes are so severely overpowered when it comes to direct PvP combat, any format that would solely rely on fighting is out of the question.
Rampage is always useless. Might be fun in that new PvP map in the cannon booth, but otherwise it’s pretty much the worst skill in the game.
It will always miss targets that are below you. Use it as a gap closer and a mobility tool or use it in melee range for the cripple.
It’s a great ability, but a lousy attack.
Better DPS and burst potential, much greater mobility, better ranged options.
And then miscellaneous stuff like different kinds of CC (Fear and huge stunlocking capability if you can land the stuns), best Fire Combo Field in the game, somewhat more viable condition builds, different weapon options for different flavor.
You can also summon flags from the sky.
there was nvr a problem with chaos armor or even confusion.. the ppl who whine that they r op just need to learn how to stop button smashing… those skils r useless if they actually used something called a brain
That would work if Chaos armor disabled the Mesmer, genius.
No, it shouldn’t. Tourny maps shouldn’t favor already OP classes and have weird and funny mechanics that sacrifice balance. Treb, Lords and Chief/Svanir aren’t nearly as important as the cannon and knockback-favors on Skyhammer.
Dolyak and Healing Signet are surprisingly undervalued, and I use them on alot of my Warrior builds. Easy damage mitigation, combine that with the Adrenaline healing trait, and regular regeneration, and you are easily a bursting tank. Though, I prefer focusing more on Axe, but using Rifle as a secondary weapon. Rifle can be unreliable, on occasion.
Healing Signet heals for less than any other of our heals overtime. So all you save is a 1s cast time for a heal, otherwise you lose in survivability.
I’m using Dolyak’s and Adrenal Heal. I’m not even close to being a tank. You need healing shouts and soldier’s stuff to be survivable to any respectable degree. In this build, you just put a thin layer or cotton on your glass jaw.
Zhaitan could’ve just fallen down. I mean… it’s not like we’ve seen his corpse. Really though, I hope we only fight one of his little aspects and it’s going to be a really gloom and depressing moment when we find out that real Zhaitan is the size of a mountain and much stronger than that… and then we start a new campaign to defeat the full-power Zhaitan, which results in Logan and Trahearne having to die or sacrifice themselves when defeating him, giving us a bittersweet, but satisfying ending, only before being faced with a threat of another dragon, which turns out to be older and even more powerful than Zhaitan.
I had this dream once, you see.
Is gw2 intended to be played by standing at 1200 range and tossing marks and bombs?
^Well, that’s the meta. So… yeah.
I’m both a Warrior and a Thief. I don’t take WvW seriously, so it’s just sPvP impressions from me.
Thief is so much stronger than a Warrior it’s not even funny. Thief has better burst that is also unpredictable with D/P or even D/D builds. Thief has much better survivability, due to Stealth and greater sustain: with 300 HP from 30 SA I heal for 375 HP/s from Shadow Rejuvenation and have perma Regeneration, which heals me for 175 HP/s. I can Stealth for 4 seconds and simply wait, giving me an instant 2k+ HP lead on the enemy, without him being able to do anything about it.
Thief has unending Blinds, which greatly reduce the effectiveness of any melee opponent, up to the point when I can defeat one and still have 100% HP due to all my regeneration.
Thief has much greater stomping/rezzing potential with stealth and Shadow Refuge.
Thief has a unique power of casting group stealth on the whole party.
Thief has en edge in vertical mobility due to Inf. Arrow.
Thief has an easy access to Poison and AoE Weakness, which has become a much more powerful tool after the latest patch.
Warrior provides better AoE pressure on points with the Longbow. That’s arguable due to Poison and Weakness that Thief brings.
Warrior has better horizontal mobility with Savage Leap and easy perma-Swiftness.
Warrior can rez and stomp against CC-heavy enemies with Stability and Endure Pain.
Warrior can remove conditions a bit better if specced for Cleansing Ire and having the Longbow equipped, but Thief can elude most condition applications instead.
Warrior has a potential of being a better peeler, but melee is severely underpowered and it’s difficult to land those stuns reliably, especially in a team fight.
They overnerfed it to take it out of the balance equation. Probably intended to take a look at it later. I guess they forgot or decided that it’s best not to mess with an already OP’d Warrior’s weapon. They’d have to carefully rebalance all GS skills and be creative with the new Burst skill. And they ain’t got no time for that.
Seeing how I might be one of the only thieves to view into the Warrior profession….
/wave
I’m a thief too.Let me try to put this in perspective for your class: would you want to lose all your adrenaline when your F1 ability is blocked?
It should. AND if we miss. Would work much better with cleansing ire AND open more doors for balancing around good, non-sloppy play.
That said you can reapply stealth in 3 seconds. Warriors need quite a bit longer to charge up adrenaline.
Shield stance lasts 3 seconds, throwing it up should out last the stealth anyways, so thus no backstab unless they chain stealths.
You are pretty bad at stealthing if you only get 3 seconds out of it…
It’s the default stealth duration, you know? Or you think that SR and chaining stealth skills is the way? It isn’t.
Still, I’d agree that both stealth skills and burst skills need to be punishing IF the game didn’t contain so much AoE condi spam, blinds and random CCs. It’s way too easy to miss and skill doesn’t have much to do it, when there are 2-3 Guards spamming Aegis on the whole zerg.
This might be my favorite thread of the day. Let’s keep ’em coming, folks!
3. If Mesmer misses a clone-summoning skill, he summons a copy of himself that attacks him instead.
4. If an Elementalist misses his Burning Speed he slams into a wall and gets stunned for 5 seconds.
5. If an Engineer steps on his own Slick Shoes oil paddle he slips and snaps his neck for 100k damage.
I’d rather see this skill apply a Daze when you interrupt someone.
In its current state the trait isn’t good for anyone. It deals barely any damage without a Condi setup and you can’t take Hammer/Mace or spec into Strength on a Condi build. So make it actually useful for Hammer/Mace lockdown builds, maybe it will also make Physical U-skill users a bit more useful.
And make Kick a godkitten ministun already, not a knockback!
I noticed that ArenaNet is working a lot on soo many aspects of this game. Which is great…
However, one of the biggest things I like about GW2 is the Personal Stories.
What I like to know is have ArenaNet started working on Expanding Personal Stories with more voice acting and perhaps going with GW1 style of cutscenes cinematic and immersive fun instances? Or have they stopped working on it entirely?I have all 8 characters and I’d like to know if ArenaNet is currently working on expanding Personal Stories with improvements or if they have just gave up on this specific Content.
Did ArenaNet give up on Expanding the Personal Stories?
Or are they currently working on this content and not saying much about it?
They’re not working on that and probably never will. They’re focusing on the living story thing, which is a big all-encompassing “one size fits all” plot missions.
Conclusion: write Trahearne out and get awesome stuff for Destiny’s Edge.
No, write both Trahearne and Destiny’s Edge out, and make the player the main character. The game should not be a vehicle to sell Guild Wars novels. A game should be about the players. We should be the stars of the show.
I’m totally okay with being a side figure. All this “you’re the best of the best bestest world saving hero” is so old and tried I can barely stand it, especially in an MMO setting, where you really have to try hard to unsee all those other one-of-a-kind chosen ones running around.
Putting a sigil in your main hand or off hand makes no difference. You should use Air/Bloodlust. You can also buy a 3rd dagger for force (swap out for at 25 bloodlust stacks.) Fire for shortbow.
Don’t use sigil of fire on a dagger. Dagger is purely single target damage, so you want to focus your damage on single targets.
Sigil of Air deals like 200 more damage than Fire tops. Fire is always better.
14k WWs? That’s like the most extreme number that can hardly be achieved in realistic situations.
They will need to add entire maps for the areas to add in the other dragons, so they will most likely only be added with expansions.
Jormag is further up in the Shiverpeaks
Primordus is underground
Kralka-whathisname is in the Crystal Desert
And “Bubbles” controls the oceans so he will most likely come with the Elona (or hopefully Cantha? Cmon devs, pretty please?) expansion.
There will be no expansions, which leads me to believe there will be no dragons.
It kinds of bothered me that humans are gigantic cheeseballs in this one. It’s like they tried to make it a bit more interesting at times, with the main character being angry and threatening to bring down the whole city if the gang was not brought to justice, but there are only a couple of moments like this. The main human character feels like the 60s Superman – bland and corky. I would’ve imagined that a street urchin turned gangster would be a little rougher around the edges.
I don’t think so.
I guess it was supposed to progress with the introduction of new dragons, but I guess those are out now with the quick-content schedule.
I actually don’t think that GS is that good anymore, because of the incredible Blind and Condi spam.
Hammer + something might work, because you can at least land that Earthshaker on something.
