are warriors the least buffed class of all the classes? I don’t sense much optimism from this camp…

The Warrior is a buffing class. It will still be a buffing class. Zerker Warrior has been terrible for years.

Of course there is always the chance I’m understanding it wrong.

Perhaps when it says it activates leap finishers twice, it activates everything about them including damage. So eviscerate would be really good.

No. It activates the finisher effect twice. On a class with the least amount of combo fields.

This trait is interesting, but it’s also so terrible it’s just mind-boggling. It should’ve been “Your leap finishes also count as blast finishers” and even then it would still be useless because now it has to compete with Vigorous Shouts.

FMW will only be usable in bunker builds. Use it on a zerker dos guardian and you will be the main target and die so easily. We don’t have escapes/blinks/stealth or any other reliable way to mitiagte damage in dire situations other then our heal, which gets interrupted easily without stab in this meta.

It will be good for stomps/Rezes and teammates as a bunker tho and THAT ONLY.

Yeah Shelter sure does get interrupted easily. So many Mace Warriors with Signet of Strength running around.

Jumping puzzles are really only fun for the first time, because the entire point of them is figuring out how to complete the puzzle.

Now, if there were some kinds of challenges e.g. timers or extra hard routes you need to take or only having 1 HP in a puzzle with a lot of enemies/damaging hazards, sure, I’d love that to be a thing.

The new Guild Wars on the horizon?

Oh, I think A-net would still want players to be the good guys, they seem to be really hellbent on this idea. We’ll represent the loyal guys that don’t want to any extra influence and will instead fight against “other guilds” that have risen to power during the Mordremoth crisis. I’m talking about NPC guilds. We’ll have a new Scarlet, who’ll be the head of the most powerful guild or something along those line.

Old political leaders will still command power and, more importantly, reputation. Queen Jennah will still play a key role in the peace treaty between Humans and Charr, but there will be another political struggle on the side. E.g. human guilds may put their own ministers in power, this way Jennah is still important, but the guilds are causing a lot of turmoil and are aiming to take her down. The Charr are still effectively ruled by the Imperator, but charr guilds can create their own new legion that will become a rival to the existing legion trio. Sylvari guilds may bank on creating their own interpretation of the Ventari Tablet and secede from the Grove. And so on.

The new Guild Wars on the horizon?

YuiRS.8129

I’ve a little theory. Almost no chance GW2 will follow this speculative route of mine, but I think it’s interesting to consider nonetheless.

WIth the update regarding Guild Halls we discovered that there appeared a new organization which aims to increase the influence of the guilds in the world through its so called Guild Initiative. Formally, it’s here to recruit fighting forces to help battle Mordremoth, which makes complete sense.

However, this is a pretty risky endeavor. What the Guild Initiative is a bout is essentially providing resources and authoritative power to what are basically paramilitary organizations. What will happen after these organizations no longer have a big bad enemy to fight? Pretty much every military force is devastated by fighting in local conflicts or against Elder Dragons, and now you have these really powerful, organized groups who made their fortune on fighting, but now they’re out of a job.

Let’s not forget that the Guild Initiative HQ is in Lion’s Arch, which is being renovated by… the Consortium. A dubious bunch at the very least. This Guild Initiative is also financed by the Consortium. Is it just an altruistic move to help the good fight? Or are they deliberately nurturing a whole army right under everyone’s noses. Whether or not they can control it is irrelevant, these Guilds may create a lot of chaos. And chaos, as we all know, is a ladder.

So, could we maybe see some internal struggle to take place after Mordy kicks the bucket? Guilds starting to vie for control over certain less protected regions of Tyria, trying to buy their way into high places and smashing the doors down when they meet any resistance? And in the midst of it, the Consortium, holding the leash of the guilds or striking a deal with Tyrian governments across all races to help them against these guilds in exchange for a bit of extra power.

YuiRS.8129

Although it is a good change for non-longbow users, I think it’s stupid. It takes away the skill of using a burst skill to get the cleanse, which is what they meant to do when changing it in the first place. I get why they are swapping it back, anything non-longbow is currently too weak. They just have a strange way of fixing things.

It reminds me of the way they are trying to fix stealthtracking. Rangers rapid firing a thief that enters stealth will still hit all arrows in stealth. So instead of making this impossible or at least make the ranger have a chance of missing, they give the thief -25% damage reduction in stealth. Condi thief says hi.

Stupid.

It’s not really about skill. Having to hit a slow melee ability was just too unreliable by it’s very nature.

How does it not take skill to land a slow melee ability? With the cleanse-on-hit condition to the trait, the trait was purely about skill as long as you didn’t equip a longbow. I was perfectly fine with that. I am not really fine with the abundance of blinds and blocks that fly around (which is why mediguards hardcounter melee warriors IMO). So I guess that problem will get solved.

I also don’t think CI is too unreliable for melee specs right now. At least not when you use either GS or hammer. GS burst is actually very quick cast and hammer allows you to set up your burst (CC, Leg Specialist).

Although I agree, Anet might have just phailed at the wording of this change.

Well, the overabundance of avoidance and CC in GW2 is quite large indeed. Melee gets shafted pretty hard in general.

By the way, I think Warriors are okay against Medi Guards as long as you don’t try to constantly stay toe-to-toe with them. GS/Ham Warriors can juke and weave around pretty well, prolonging the fight enough to outlast a Guard. Then again, pretty hard to find really good players.

Peak Performance is obviously only useful if Rampage becomes a Physical skill, because all other physical skills deal low damage and are basically useless with the exception of Bull’s Charge, maybe.

Heightened Focus seems pretty dope. Spammable semi-controllable Haste may turn Warriors into dangerous damage dealers.

60606 seems like the go to setup for a funzie Zerker.

Strength:

Peak Performance if Rampage is a Physical skill, otherwise Restorative Strength if Healing Signet becomes worth clicking. If not… I dunno, close your eyes and select a random trait because all three of them are totally useless.

Forceful Greatsword. Too much good stuff for a Zerker to take Body Blow over it.

Berserker’s Power. No comment.

Defense:

Dogged March seems like a natural choice, but Cull the Weak is virtually endless Weakness on wounded opponents, which can be really useful. Or not. Gonna test Cull the Weak, but probably pick Dogged March.

Defy Pain. Losing Armored Attack sucks, but not a big deal for an sPvP Warrior. Defy Pain will save your kitten from a burst and allow you to Rush/WW away. And can I please laugh at how pathetic Sundering Mace is? Ha.

Discipline:

Warrior’s Sprint. No contest there.

A toss up. This is interesting. Probably Destruction of the Empowered, but Brawler’s Recovery is really strong. In fact, this change may allow Warriors to survive without Cleansing Ire somewhat. That’s important to note, since we will have to sacrifice one line for the Elite Spec and Defense seems the only line that we may possibly give up.

Heightened Focus. While Burst Mastery is obviously powerful, especially for a GS Warrior that sometimes needs extra Adrenaline to squeeze out that Arcing Slice, 15s ICD 4s Quickness is just great. BC-Frenzy-100b is back, except you don’t have to run Frenzy now. Catch your opponent with that GS1 under 50% health and then use your lightning fast 100b without any CC and you just may land it. A fun, skillful and powerful trait, at least in my opinion.

If the change to Cleansing Ire is real and Burning nerfs for non-condi builds are significant, I will be running GS/Hammer. Heightened Focus with Hammer is also pretty good. Dodging a sped up Earthshaker is not going to be very easy.

Why is disengaging a bad thing?

Don’t ever play League, 90% of 1v1 engagements will end with you blowing all your skills and your opponent walking away with 23 health. If disengaging angers you in GW1, League might want you to kill kittens.

Brawler is a whole archetype in League. You chase and melee enemy squishies while surviving counter pressure and peel.

Ideas about new Warrior traits. Also axes.

in Warrior

Posted by: YuiRS.8129

YuiRS.8129

Specifically about Axe Mastery and Berserker’s Power.

The new Axe Mastery grants 150 Ferocity for every axe equipped. That’s 300 with both, which translates into +20% crit damage.

Berserker’s Power is a unique +20% damage buff (with 3 stages of Adrenaline used) which lasts for a 10 seconds.

Now, Berserker’s Power is way better. The way it reads (when you USE a burst skill) suggests that the buff triggers even if you miss. That’s +20% of pretty much constant damage buff. And then there’s the idea that you have to be using two axes to gain any benefit from Axe Mastery… yeah, OH Axe sucks, MH axe mostly sucks.

So what do we have here? One good trait and one bad trait that’s totally eclipsed by the good one. Let’s try to change that!

My proposition:

Axe Mastery – Dealing a critical hit with an axe grants 8 seconds of Might. 20% reduced recharge on Axe skills. Dealing a critical strike grants 2 Adrenaline.

Pretty similar to Forceful Greatsword, but so what. It fits really well! MH Axe deals a lot of smaller hits, OH Axe is pretty much made for small hits, so Might stacking may actually make it worthwhile to use that Axe 5.

But I don’t think we should stop there. OH Axe is really bad. Like… really bad. It needs buffs. My proposition:

Dual Strike is unchanged, but if you hit with it, you get access to a new ability a-la Flanking Strike. This new ability is:

Underhand Strike – Slam your axe into foe, knocking the wind out of him. Removes 2 Boons.

Woah there! Boon removal?! Isn’t it really strong? Yes. However, hitting this attack is really difficult. But the main reason is the state of the current Berserker Warrior, I think he could use something like that and still remain balanced. Zerker Warrior is almost fine in competitive play, but, unlike other Zerker builds, he lacks some unique, helpful features. Medi Guard can support and CC, Shatter Mesmer can set up portal plays, Thief is really fast and can decap, Ranger… well, he’s not that great, but he has insane direct ranged damage, making him a more reliable damage dealer than a Warrior. Boon removal is a good offensive skill that will fit an all out physical brawler and, considering a fairly limited repertoir of Warrior’s abilities, will hardly make him overpowered.

Now, Whirling Axe. This ability is really bad, because it deals very low damage, makes it so you can’t dodge while using it too. You used to be able to dodge while using it and it wasn’t 100% worthless back then, so how about you revert the change, guys?

Also, another proposition: make every hit of Whirling Axe apply 0.1 second of Cripple. This way the enemy will at least be forced to dodge or do something instead of leisurely walking out of it.

Some people proposed making it a projectile reflect or evade, but I think that’s too much. Maybe a projectile destroyer, like Zealot’s Defense? At any rate, it needs some love.

in Warrior

YuiRS.8129

@nicknamenick:
Unable to dispute the points?

I don’t disagree with fast hands being baseline (it does feel like a near “must have” on my Warrior) … though it could feel like the same “must have” that Deceptive Evasion does for many Mesmer builds.

I disagree with the people saying that other classes are getting several things made baseline so warrior should too.

You have a point. However, from where I stand, one of the very few unique strengths that a zerker warrior has is the instant swap Sigil damage with Fast Hands, which is what makes him able to fight back against a lot of other builds. The main problem iof a DPS Warrior is that he doesn’t bring anything to the table that other zerker classes already have. There’s just no way you can lose that trait.

And Adrenaline on hit is pretty much a must, because Warrior is balanced around spamming his F1 (really, what’s a Warrior without his constant Comb Shot?) and you can be totally Adrenaline starved if you don’t have it. Condi cleansing is great, but that’s worth the trait, adrenaline on his is pretty much a must for playing a Warrior in PvP imo.

- Condition : He’s one of the best at that for PvE, but he’s lacking a bit in PvP.

- Dungeon meta : He’s in a great place as usual. With the change to trait he will be even more powerful, but also more boring to play. Nothing the specialisation can do about that.

- In roaming, the warrior is good there with decent variety in build (about the same as most profession).

- In WvW everything is fine.

- sPvP is where it start to hurt. Warrior isn’t in a bad place. He have one great build with the shoutbow and have more different good build than other profession like thief and necro. Still Shoutbow, Axebow, Hammerbow… They are different, but still feel too similar. Ideally, i would want to see a good condition build (like Double Kit Engi or Terrormancer) or a good killer build (like Power ranger or medi guardian)

I’d say a power build (gs/lb or gs/hammer) is also pretty good, but it needs team support or some sort of a unique ability to rival medi guard.

Also non-meta builds aren’t necessarily bad at all. They’re just not what a handful of top teams are running at the moment. DPS Guard was considered “bad” some time back, the “bad” power necro is now replacing the condi necro, DPS warriors are becoming more and more popular etc.

in Warrior

Posted by: YuiRS.8129

Talking about offensive zerker builds here. Whirlwind and Arcing Slice aren’t that slow. However, I find that most of the damage against good players comes from Reckless Dodge, Fast Hands weapon swaps with with Hydromancy/Leeching and on-crit Sigil procs. You should only use your hammer combos when the enemy wastes his dodge. Pay attention and stow cancel Staggering Blow, Fierce Blow and Backbreaker if you know they’re going to miss.

You can use Bull’s Charge or even Kick in place of Balanced Stance to set up big damage combos, but the loss if Stability sucks big time. The stun from Kick actually lasts just long enough to land Earthshaker.

Stability is still pretty scarce in the current meta. If you can avoid getting your attacks chains destroyed by blind/block spam, you can seriously ruin someone’s day with stunlock combos.

Also you can play shoutbow or axe/shilde gs if you want. Thats three viable build, now tell me 3 viable necro or ranger build.

Pewpew Ranger, Spirit Ranger, Trap Ranger. All as viable as Axe/Shield if not more. Axebow is fine, but it’s completely immobile and doesn’t fit any team comp.
