Why is that not a thing? Is there a good reason for that I don’t get? Do you realize how miserable of an experience that is to fight even a 3-man premade plus two puggies with a full solo team?
We don’t need another melee weapon, we need a 1200 ranged weapon. Either a Rifle or a GS used as ranged weapon — just Mesmers, but less butterflies and more shadows.
So Thief becoming a magical GS wielder? i hope Anet doesnt take that road, it would ruin the game.
Thief already uses magic called Shadow Arts.
So Shadow Arts is magic now???? lol ok bro.
Shadowstepping, invisibility and illusions are part of the Denial magic school, it’s in the GW1 lore.
They’re powerful when massed. 10, 15 archers assisting push are surprisingly effective. And they follow Thieves and Mesmers like glue, always picking up the right one and focusing down right after stealth. Once I saw 7 of them pressuring enemy Thief so hard that he couldn’t really go any offensive.
But that’s massed up. Alone or in groups of 2-3, they’re meh at best. Need some more stats and unique things, like crippling/immobilizing shots, or weakness on shot, boons to allies. Maybe ticking Aegis for Doorbreakers in range?
They game’s already snowballed out of control if you can summon 15 archers. You won’t kill the lord if the whole zerg is defending it. Just win by points summoning heroes.
I don’t play LoL, never will. But I get that this mode is being given to us based on that game’s popularity. Lane’s, Heroes, etc. But I don’t see why anyone would want to play defense in this game, as it doesn’t award you squat.
I spent the last two matches trying out Consecration skills with Tome of Courage, Staff, Sceptor/Focus. In both matches I did well enough. I was using Sanctuary to cover our supplies, and constantly buffing our NPC’s. Both matches were a loss, but only because of points. I was able (with helps of teammates ofc) to keep our lord alive.
But they netted us losses. Again, defense in this game is not warranted.
Well back to my face smash medi guard. I thought it would be fun to try a new build, but if it’s all about speeding to smash lord, then screw defense…
If you don’t defend your lord kinda dies and you lose the game. Also killing attacking NPCs awards points.
It snowballs way too hard. Guards don’t do jack, so if their whole team is attacking you’re forced to defend with the whole team as well and if you’re behind you have no chance of turning it around. Turret Engies really ruin the game by placing their turrets at supplies and near choke points. Since this build is impossible to 1v1 for all melee builds it greatly impacts the enjoyment of the game. At least in Conquest you don’t see turrets TOO often.
Cele good for so many builds? Which ones?
Last I checked only ele, engineer, and maybe warrior used celestial in current meta. That’s still missing out 4 other professions that don’t use celestial at all (celestial is garbage for necro, garbage for mesmer, and garbage for ranger and thief).
Apparently 2/7 or 3/7 using cele while the other 4/7 use berzerker/valkyrie is “broken”.
PvP person hyperbole at its finest.
These 3 also happen to be the strongest classes. I wonder why.
Turrets need to be adjusted to be as useful as Guardian’s Spirit Weapons. It’s only fair.
Nowhere, pretty much. GW2 is full of useless abilities.
Rocket and rifle turrets die in 2 seconds when attacked by a zerker class and then turret engi does absolutely no damage.
What is so overpowered in that?
Not in 2 seconds, not at all.
can’t they’re top 3 best duelist in the game
wat? Maybe in WvW with a condi build, but not in sPvP.
2OP:
Dodge their biggest attacks and kite with poison. That’s all you need to do. After Shelter and RF are down he’s a sitting duck. Don’t kill yourself with Retal.
Time to get good then. Thanks for the encouragement, my fellow thieving scum <3
Sword/Sword+Longbow condi is a good 1v1 build in PvP. Sword/Warhorn is one of the primary PvP weapon sets, if you count that as “dual-wielding”.
Then people would use both Mending and Cleansing Ire. You can’t have too many cleanses in this game.
Honestly, yes, I don’t think that would be an unreasonable change and it would make non-LB builds a bit more viable. Changing it to “Removes 1 Condition for each bar of Adrenaline spent” wouldn’t make it overpowered (I mean, the trait is incredibly strong, but Warrior wouldn’t be able to PvP without it).
I can do Infiltrator’s Signet> Heartseeker > Steal> auto attack in quick succession, I don’t use Macros, but I have a Mechanical Keyboard – the rest is quick reflexes.
Withdraw isn’t too hard, you just need to control the camera in the right direction and position your character, it helps to have a steady framerate aswell.
That’s pretty easy. And I’ve been talking about the About Face Withdraw, which is faster than the manual turn Withdraw.
Using stuff like Cluster Bomb – Steal – Cluster Bomb for detonation is a lot trickier than just channeling HS with Steal which is… well, you just press buttons. That combo requires some insane timing in my experience, because you can easily miss with it, detonate it too high up, use two of them, fail to detonate it etc. And all of that depends on when you press CB the second time. I also find this technique essential, because it allows you to burst with Shortbow out, so I gotta find a way to master it and use it reliably.
Leg Specialist is one of the more useful traits, because it allows you to land the Hammer chain.
Anyway, Warriors are a buff/DoT class. You use Longbow and Shouts, torch the ground, buff your team and chip away at the enemy health. You can play other builds but it’s all considered trolling or at least “for fun”, not for winning.
This is the current meta build – http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Warrior_-_Shoutbow
If you want to fight in melee and dish out damage in sPvP you should not have rolled a Warrior.
I really wish they would just tone down the damage for the spirit weapons, make them invulnerable and a toggle skill.
They used to hit for less and be invulnerable. Nobody used them.
I’m aware that this is against ToS, but some of the Thief’s maneuvers require insane accuracy and timing that is really hard to pull off with just your ol’ fingers.
About Face – Withdraw – About Face just bugs out half of the time you do it manually. I saw some players do it saw quickly it’s incredible.
Cluster Bomb – Steal – Cluster Bomb either bugs out, shoots the bomb at your previous location or, if you press 2 too fast, will shoot another bomb and waste Initiative.
If your ping fluctuates you can just forget about using stuff like this.
Do you simply need to practice out the kitten to do stuff like these or top players just secretly use macros and don’t give a kitten ?
Take shouts and banners then? I don’t see a problem.
http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Guardian_-_Meditation_Hammer
This is the current meta builds for Guards in sPvP. You can use Greatsword and change a few traits/Sigils/runes, but Guard is meant to DPS, lockdown targets and burst while being sustainable and resistant to counter pressure. You still provide support through your virtues, but Medi Guard is quite a selfish build.
a class which is featured in high end play in all three game modes isn’t one of the best classes?
do you now see why I find this subforum full of drama queens? it’s overreactions to nerfs by calling a very strong class bad which just makes it sad to read posts in here.
Every class but Mesmer and Ranger is featured in all modes of the game. Warriors are brought for their buffs. Not for their melee (y’know, warriors?), but for their buffs.
No. If a class is overpowered you nerf it, not buff everyone else. It’s too much work and it brings in a little nasty thing called power creep.
overall warrior is still one of the best classes.
Not really. They’re buffers, that’s their role. They don’t do anything else all that well.
5v5 isn’t a duel…
I’d love the game to have duels, but it’s against A-net’s policy for some reason. The whole sub-class of WvW players love to duel. Hell, they even made a map for roamers, which devolved into zerg trains, but whatever. And yet, we still can’t have proper duels. Not even in the PvP lobby while we wait for those 5 min+ queues to pass.
Stances and Shouts would still be way better for PvP. Physical skills need to give Might (via trait. Say, 5 stacks for 10 seconds?) to contribute to condi builds. maybe remove conditions too, because direct damage doesn’t fly in GW2’s PvP.
You underestimate physical utilities my dear..
And stances are basically dead. Balanced gives olny 5 stack, berserker will be changed to give resistance boon instead of total immunity and quickness will be turned into a stripable boon.
My suggested buffs are for a start and to check out how they will perform. You dont want to overbuff something to see it later nerfed right? I already had more ideas about these additional effects like condition removal/resistance boon or even boon removal on use.
My reason behind ground targeted stomp is that i want to give it bit of mobility in combat to help warrior stick to target. Another reason is that in current state stomp is used as a defensive tool, howered blind/stab screw it over – and thats the problem with stomp as you cant get breathing room youse supposed to get (launch there is with a reason), it also cancel it effect if you press movement key by a mistake.
My proposed change not olny address it defensive ability but it will also allow us to use it in aggresive form to set up attacks/catch target at the cost of it losing it as defensive ability for cooldown time which will force warrior to think how he wants to use it and find a ideal situation to address his current situation – keep it as offensive tool or blow it up as defensive? No more press a buttom and forget like it is with lame and boring stances/shouts/signets/banners.
As for the kick and it knockdown – unlike bullrush it doesnt gap close, you have to use it in melee. Knockback is not really all that much useful for warrior as you want to stick to your target not push it around. Kick in current state is nice to set up evis/final thrust etc but a knockdown will make it even more useful. My proposed change punish us a bit more for missing it but it also rewards more if it connect. Also if we keep it as knockback skill there wont be any reason to take it over bullrush.
I really don’t. Balanced Stance is usually enough in sPvP, Zerker Stance giving Resistance doesn’t mean it’s dead, sure it can be stripped/corrupted now, but it’s also affected by boon duration and works on condis that were already applied to you.
Out of the 4 utility skill types Warriors have AoE buffs, AoE buffs, self buffs and useless things. They don’t feel “strong”, they feel like buffers, because that’s what they are.
tbh you’re overdramatizing this lol
dwarf:
jalis #7 is ok, it helps you not getting stunned, revenant has no vigour and only 2 stun breaks of which one costs a lot of energy (ik its bugged right now) and the other one is a minor gm trait.
revenant also doesn’t have that much condi cleanse, the 30s elite, the traited legend swap and the traited immunity.
so what can you do? you wait until he 1) used his heal, then you immob him. 2) if he switches to mallyx to get rid of the immob you stun him.
jalis elite is bugged as stated above.
demon:
mallyx #9 just stand outside the field. condi revenants will be using maces, close range weapons. dodge the axe 5 pull and you will be fine.
more problematic is the mallyx skill that removes 2 boons and gives you 3 confusions. this skill should cost 35 energy instead of 20.
the mallyx elite is borderline, you can switch on/off it for the invul but you wont be able to use any other skills in the meantime so this one kinda needs testing.
could be solved with icd of the resistance trait and the runes.hammer:
look at the hammer skills and how the #2’s highest damage is at range, it’s your own fault for trying to range them… go close into melee range and they won’t have much.
d/f ele already renders projectiles useless with the 3 skills it has and nobody has cried about it.
->#4 is fine.hammer #5 is underpowered, you need to be blind to not see the animation with a 1,75s casting time which should even be reduced to 1 second or max 1.25. the range could be reduced to 900 though.
mace:
the fire field is narrow, you can step out of it and you get maybe 1s of burning.
Reve has a lot of Resistance, immobing him will do nothing.
Yeah, some of the Reve’s skills are just plain insane. Sure, we still need to test it in the real game, but it’s not too hard to make predictions based on our experience with GW2. 100% Stab uptime, great stomp denials, spammable boon removal, insane condi application power, damage immunity, condi immunity, spammable extra long single target CC. It’s just too much. It’s still Beta, so no need to be too scared just yet though.
Stances and Shouts would still be way better for PvP. Physical skills need to give Might (via trait. Say, 5 stacks for 10 seconds?) to contribute to condi builds. maybe remove conditions too, because direct damage doesn’t fly in GW2’s PvP.
Shoutbow is too easy to play. Play a Zerker Warrior if you want a more active play style. You will be about 50 times squishier than your Engie though.
Two out of your three complaints aren’t warrior specific.
as this person already mentioned… none of those “nerfs” were specifically effecting warriors only…
Warriors are still the only class that has the highest armor and health as well as insane passive regen, party wide power, might, precision, fury and other stats from banners.
Mass rezzer via elite skill, great leaps and mobility, the ability to self rally, stances that make you immune to damage and conditions. And because of the large health pool and heavy armor our “glass cannon” builds arent as glassy as other professions…We are also always very welcome to join any dungeon.
Zerker Warrior is incredibly glassy. Thieves, Mesmers and Guards are much tougher thanks to their class skills. Armor and extra 5k health does nothing.
My current guess is off-hand pistol or off-hand dagger. Though I think off-hand pistol is somewhat more likely.
and what shall you do with a range offhand but no possible range mainhand? oO
OH pistol could be melee/short range/mobility.
Unless it’s something like Spirit Armor that gives you a certain amount of HP and a “structure” status, when you can’t be crit or suffer condis… no.
They? You mean mobs? Well, yeah.
S/P is the best leveling set for Thief, followed closely by condi D/D.
Or you can just blind or block while stomp as Guardian,
or you can open stability when stomp as Warrior, Ele, Guardian or ranger or engi
or you can stealth while stomp as ranger, mesmer, thief or engi
or you can use invulnerable when stomp as engi, mesmer (f4),or ele
or you can just dps the corpse to death.L2P… Stop QQ about ranger. It’s not like dogs make them to Meta.
Only 1 blind and not everybody has instant blind.
Not everybody can stealth.
Not everybody has invulnerability.
Can’t do that 1v1 because of the heal.
Doesn’t have anything to do with the meta, it’s just not fun when you beat them and then can’t finish them thanks to a ridiculous mechanic.
I don’t think it’s fair that one class can’t be stomped 1v1 without stability or stealth. Triple interrupt? Come on, A-net. It’d be annoying, but acceptable if you could cleave the Ranger, but they so happen to also have the only self-rez out of all the classes as well that can out-heal your cleave.
Proposed solution: make the pet self-rez about half as fast and/or make their daze interrupt a lot slower and more telegraphed like Guardian’s push back.
Some of the replies are weird. Thief’s Shortbow is one of the best weapons in the game.
no.1 hits hard and AoEs well, making it strong in team fights and in 1v1s against Rangers and especially Mesmers.
no.2 is the best Blast finisher in the game that hits extremely hard.
no.3 is a spammable evade that cripples. It’s a great tool for dueling and surviving when getting pinned down.
no.4 is a poison field. Poison is one of the best conditions in the game that directly counters the current healing meta. Not only that, but you can blast it with #2 for AoE weakness, which is incredibly powerful.
no.5 is the absolute best mobility tool in the game. This is what gives Thief his place in the current meta and makes a well played Thief uncatchable.
In my opinion the Greatbow build is much better than those. Or Tarcis’ Longbow/GS build. Or w/e you want to call that one.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fJAQJARTjMd0FaVImhwJagfgC7t3C2CA1zRuXGA-TpBHwAMLDQ4IAU4CAA4BA0a/hBHCAA
It offers a lot of armor and good burst with AA into GS swap+dodge+Arcing Slice. Great Fury uptime allows you to deal good damage outside of Sigil of Intelligence swaps. You can replace Valk Amulet with Soldier’s, but the damage drops considerably. It uses triple Stances, because you don’t really need to land 100b to kill people, it’s just there to cleave or punish people who think they can tank you.
Now, I love this build to bits. You need skill to play it, landing your skills is crucial and extremely rewarding, it’s good in team fights and solo. The problem is total lack of support for your team, which is why it’s worse than shoutbow, but I think it’s one of the best fighting builds in the Warrior’s kitten nal right now. < really? ?rsenal is a curse word now?

Okay. Thanks, guys.
Really bad on my Thief and learning in this game is kinda hard because there are no duels and practice mode is a pain with its constant 2v5s. Please, answer a few of my questions:
1. As a D/P, should I just accept that I can never beat 80% of the meta builds and only decap and 1v2 in a match? Builds like any non-zerk Engineer, certain Necro builds, D/D ele, shoutbow/hambow/greatbow Warriors, well played Guardians, condi Rangers etc.? Or am I just bad and any build can be beaten on D/P? I just don’t get how I can fight Necros/Engies that instantly put 6 condis on me, including chill and weakness, while all condi removal I have is Shadowstep and maybe HiS.
2. If my team is losing 4v4 and even 3v4 on other points, should I just concentrate on decapping and never even think about fighting or assist in fights to try and wipe the enemy team and sacrifice two other points to enemy roamers?
3. How often should I use shortbow and in what situations? I’m talking combat, not getting around. I find that even 1v2 with D/P is often impossible due to collateral damage some classes produce.
4. If I decap, see an enemy approaching and realize I won’t be able to decap in time, should I leave or try and fight the enemy?
5. Should I always full cap if nobody is coming or decap and move on ASAP?
6. If I get jumped by an enemy, what should I do? I find that trying to enter stealth takes too long, even if it’s just half a second, and I’m already dead or at 20% and full of condis. Should I blow every CD and initiative on SB to try to escape or even just die quickly on purpose to resume roaming as soon as possible? Or should I still always take a gamble whether or not I can BP+HS fast enough?
7. Is Shadow Refuge really needed? It’s slow and it rarely works as a save for me, because it’s an instant killing zone. It doesn’t help saving teammates that much either, because all people do nowadays is cleave.
Long time no see, friend. I’ve been getting it when returning to Heart of the Mists from a PvP map. The game hangs dead tight.
Depends on the scenario and build.
Basilisk has it’s use as described by Samuel.
Dagger Storm could be used in say a WvW zerg scenario for say stability (not sure with recent changes…), tagging, crippling/downing low health enemies, maybe even reflecting a bit of projectiles. Signet of Malice and Dagger Storm are pretty nice together.
Guild of Thieves, could be used for distraction/adding a bit of chaos/confusion into the fight. Though of the 3, this one might be less used.
Not sure you will get a definite answer of “use X and only X.”
Thieves Guild hits really hard too, at least the melee chick does. It’s our “unfair” 1v1 Elite.
You need to spell reflect their freezing trap.
What, you want you PvE look to be different from your PvP look and you can’t sacrifice 5% of your inventory space for that? People these days.
The mad salad? No thanks. She got offed and she should stay 3 feet under.
I hope the spec doesn’t gut our offensive capabilities and that Longbow can rival Sc/F in usefulness.
So let me get this straight: They’re trying to add more verticality to the map design, and yet they’re taking away the ability to navigate vertically?
I don’t quite see the part where this is supposed to make sense.
You are supposed to walk there. With your legs. By moving them. Not by pressing a single button. Actually, Guards aren’t even getting hit by this too much. Weep for our lil’ shortbow 5 friends…
Conditions absolutely rule PvP. Condi builds can endlessly spam extremely high damaging DoTs, while being incredibly tanky. That’s just how GW2 works. That means you can’t counter them with damage and must counter them with condi removal.
It deals 90% of 100b while allowing you to move. Sure, Axe/Axe is terrible, because MH Axe #1 does more DPS, but if paired with, say, a Sword in a power build, it actually does okay damage and cleaves really well.
So I made this build:
Sure, it doesn’t have a place in an organized team, because it doesn’t quite have the mobility of a Thief to be a good roamer, but it deals good damage, can actually fight on point and can somewhat move around thanks to Savage Leap.
MH Sword has Final Thrust, but if you miss or the target is still alive, you can use Whirling Axe to continue the pressure, instead of having to rely on the weaksause #1. And if you actually put the target down, WA cleaves better than Axe #1.
