As the saying goes; “never play on patch day”.
Anyone that takes a day off for the 23rd will likely be kicking themselves by the day’s end. It is far better to take a day off a few days down the line, say for the 25th or so after all of the major bugs have been fixed.
The weekly basis is every Friday, but I have read that it took some people up to 10 days to receive their veteran character slot.
If it doesn’t arrive after 10 days, I would contact support.
Edit: Whoops, removed plural.

I don’t believe so. The only choice I would think might affect something would be which Order you choose to join; either the “Order of Whispers”, “The Pact” or the “Durmond Priory”, which might affect some dialog or perhaps other events for the expansion’s story.
But for now, we can’t say for certain, as none of us have played the entirety of HoT’s story.
im aware but thats not a human female hairstyle thats currently released afaik
Good point, I just looked over all available hair styles and couldn’t find it – let me check a little further. Could it possibly be hair physics that have made the hair move to a position that makes it look like a unique hair style (grasping at straws here, heh).
Looks to me like someone is wearing a “Wreath of Cooperation”.
It is possible, although I and many others find it more likely (and lore-friendly) for the content to be re-introduced via fractals through the mists.
Of course, I would never complain if Season 1 content returned, as I do miss a lot of it.
There are a lot of restrictions to free-to-play accounts that will help reduce the number of bots we will see.
Further, new accounts created after the 28th August now require either SMS or an authenticator for their account to have access to some things, which also helps slightly.
3 Legendary Weapons + 2 Back Pieces Initially
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Zalladi.4652
After reading on Dulfy and then checking the new website to confirm, it seems like we will be getting 3 Legendary weapons in addition to the two back pieces, and not solely two back pieces and one weapon like many were commenting.
New WebsiteThe launch of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns will introduce the beginning of a new line of legendary weapons. Start building any of the three initial legendary weapons and collect three additional new skins – including their precursors!
So those who were disappointed and thinking that you were only getting the single weapon and two back pieces should now be happier.
Unless of course I have read this entirely wrong.
Looks like there are some Jonathan Swifts roaming these forums
no hard copy for hot. Its download only.
Some retailers distribute hard copies; AmazonUK as an example. I have 2 copies on my shelf already.
Access to chats, guild banks, character slots i already paid for got 9 80’s would be really irritaed if they cut me back to 5 like the thing showed
Don’t worry – you won’t lose anything. Out of curiosity, where did you read that you would lose slots?
Edit: Ah I see from the comparison chart. I highly doubt they would suddenly limit core accounts to only 5 slots, and I believe that is in reference to the starting number of slots a core account is given (whereas a HoT account could potentially have 5 or 6, which is why it is given the “5 or more”).
Hope that clears it up – I am not too great at explaining things.

They had hired a new raid designer for creating this content (I presume the position was filled), and I don’t think we have seen what their new employee is capable of producing just yet. So I wouldn’t compare it to content created by other developers.
I just requested a refund for heart of thorns and I will then be uninstalling. Enjoy the couple hundred dollars I spent in the last week. It will never happen again. I did not purchase an expansion to a F2P game and I will not pay for an expansion to a F2P game. If I wanted to be harassed by immature kittenbags who dont even have to purchase anything in order to harass those that did, I’d play literally any other MMO!
I take it all back. I just reviewed https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/95982157-Account-types-Free-Core-HoT and that is enough restrictions and isolation to make me happy, sorry everyone.
Glad to hear it – welcome back.
All I want to know is if I do not putrchase the expamnsion do I loose things I had before the expansion.
You don’t lose anything if you don’t purchase the expansion. You just won’t have access to the majority of the new features the expansion is bringing.
(As a side question, what things have you thought you might loose with the release of the expansion?)
There are now 3 types of account;
1) Free-to-play
2) Core
3) HoT
You are in the Core category and have full access to the core game with no restrictions. You can see the chart comparison of the three account types here.
WTKITTEN … people whine “I WANT RAIDS I WANT RAIDS” then Anet makes them .. and now people are kittening because of the size? REALLY? this is just ridiculous .. i feel sorry for game devs for having to put up with this childish crap
Well, it wasn’t a heated discussion until your post. This thread was a calm suggestion for future raids to be flexible with regard to how many can enter – keep that heat for the true complaint threads.
Happened with LoTRO, which used to have one of the best gaming communities. Many of their changes were done due to new management and money troubles.
Nothing changed. Nothing got better. And as a result both Guild Wars and then Guild Wars 2 certainly benefited from the mass exodus.
Where is LoTRO now? Oh right. Consolidating/merging servers and buggering up those so much they’ve had to postpone them.
The lack of interest for LotRO wasn’t solely the move to free-to-play. There were content decisions that drove several away, such as the announcement that they were no longer producing dungeon/raid instance content and focusing on solo play, as well as the statement that there were not going to be any more expansions.
So far, that seems to be the case.
We don’t know as of yet if there is an alternative method of acquiring Legendary Armour, but it is possible it could be crafted through a mastery line in the future (if it isn’t already).
The concept of temporarily taming animals is not too shabby; particularly the idea of taming an enemy AI pet or animal of some sort to fight for you for a short time, that could have a lot of mechanical possibilities, but will likely come with several bugs and exploit issues.
A good concept, but will be difficult to implement perfectly.
I’m actually having a hard time understanding this question. Maybe the content just isn’t made for your playstyle, and you shouldn’t play it.
That is quite unnecessary; he is simply suggesting that raids should be flexible with how many players can enter them at any given time. As opposed to a fixed number of 10 players, he was suggesting we could have the same raid but scaled to 11 players if 11 wish to party up, or even 20 players, so on and so forth.
yeah, guess this is where it stops for me! —- so it doesnt feel like i wasted all this time getting all these lw stuff! gj guys way to kill a game i really enjoyed. how you could not get enough money from the player base is beyond me..
And saying something like that is likely to get your account banned – might want to edit it.
Flexible, not 20
Actually, that would make some sense for future raids, mainly as GW2 is one of the few MMO’s that has an efficient scaling system already in place, so adjusting scaling for raids should not be too much of an issue from that standpoint, just as long as the different sizes are entirely optional.
So what you are saying is that you dont know my experiences, my history, my knowledge or my personality? And yet you feel qualified to tell me what I should do, even without knowing what I have done? How very typical and EXACTLY my point. I get enough stupid from the people already in the game, at least those people had to do more than create a free email address to get there. I appreciate the sarcasm on your part to help support my stance on the matter.
I was not commanding, I was suggesting.
You stated the reason you were leaving is because of the potential harassment from the free-to-play players, yet, have you actually experienced this yet for GW2 as of today?
If not, then perhaps your reason for leaving was not as valid as you claimed it to be.
that would be nc soft, not anet.
nc soft decides all the money things.
anet works for nc soft.they can still get 100% revenue for sales on their own website (buy.guildwars2.com)
they will be earning extra on sales on steam.nc soft is just too greedy to look past that.
Except they would lose out on some potential 100% income from purchases on their website which players might instead purchase from Steam, thus giving NCSoft (you are right there, apologies) the potential for less income.
Just to clarify; check your options —> Control Options, and check what button “Auto-Run” is activated by on your keyboard. It might be assigned to a key you regularly press somehow.
Otherwise, it sounds like a bug.
Could this be the Taunt condition which forces you to run towards the foe that put it on you?
why is free to play gw2 not on steam ?
why?
we could get more players there.http://store.steampowered.com/stats/
current / peak
Concurrent Steam Users: 6,395,949 / 9,524,8126 – 9 million players log into steam everyday.
ncsoft stop being so greedy and losing out in the long run.
Because then Anet would have to give a cut of the full game purchases to Valve, which would hurt the game’s income more than the extra sales from Steam.
Chances are, if there is someone on Steam that wants to play GW2, they will most likely already have it.

Will there be a HoT expansion only version?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Zalladi.4652
Is there, in the future, going to be a HoT expansion only version released? (Even if it’s not available for pre-purchase, will there potentially be one released at a later date?)
I’m asking because I, like many people, have had this game for a while (I’ve had it for about 2 years or so). At the time, I paid pretty much the exact same price as the standard pre-purchase edition is costing now. It was expensive. I love GW2, but I think the expansion just isn’t reasonably priced if you already own it. I know there’s the bonus perk of an extra character slot if you own it already…but I feel like that doesn’t quite balance out having to pay for the game again, essentially.
I understand that it’s to make it easy for new-comers to get in, which is awesome, I totally support having the core edition and the expansion sold as one for those people. It’s a fair price if you don’t own the game at all. But for everyone else who already owns the game, and has done for a while now, I feel there should be an “expansion only” version.
You aren’t paying for the core game again, the expansion would have been $50 base with or without the core game added in – that was solely there to bridge the purchase gap for newer players arriving.
This discussion has been taking place en masse since June.
Have you tried walking around the starting areas to see if you get harassed by F2P players before making that decision? Chances are, you will be untouched, or in this case, un-whispered.
And yes, they do need to purchase the full edition to get rid of their restrictions.
It depends on when you purchased the original core game and where.
If it was within the last 30 (or between January and June 2015 – Source) days and from the official site here, you can get a refund by submitting a support ticket.
If it was further than the last 30 days and from the official site, you might be able to get a refund but it will be less likely to work. Submit a ticket and find out.
If it was from a 3rd party retailer, you are very unlikely to get a refund unfortunately.
The thing is, how many players out there will play raids if they require groups of 20 players or more? The answer will likely be a lot fewer than if raids only required 10 players.
You could consider some world bosses to be the large-scale raids you are looking for (mainly Triple Trouble as the prime example – hopefully they will add more), so I doubt they will add 20+ raid sizes as a result.
guild wars just lost a long time customer for making this game free to play and placing restrictions on accounts, i have played this for 3 years your vets are getting the shaft in this free to play game
I am a veteran, I don’t feel I am getting “the shaft”.
If you are leaving because Anet introduced a severely restricted free-to-play GW2 account for players to test the game and buy the full edition if they like it, then I hope you find an MMO that suits you and isn’t already free-to-play (might be searching a while).
It isn’t redundant, as HoT purchasers are also getting the core game with no restrictions, whereas free players still have restrictions on the core game.
This is confusing me aswell. what are you supposed to play in PvP to get to rank 20 of you’re not allowed to play unranked arenas??
You can play the hotjoin dedicated servers (the ones named “Server 081” etc, just not custom-made hotjoin servers) and I guess Ranked matches (unless there is a universal rank requirement for those – I don’t play much PvP so I could very well be wrong).
Well, the expansion is on the way. That is content, and you have to pay for it. So feel free to purchase the expansion if you wish to support Anet and get content in return (if you haven’t already).
You will either:
A) Be sent a physical copy of the HoT box with the code on the inside which you then apply to your account.
B) Be given an online digital serial code which you can then apply to your GW2 account.
I believe the AmazonUS only has digital codes (Option #B) , which after purchasing you can find at “Your Games Library” of your account on AmazonUS or possibly your email.
PvP experience until rank 20 means that they cannot raise PvP rank higher than 20 but still be able to play custom, unranked, ranked arena?
Thank you!
Actually, upon re-reading the blog and comparison charts, it suggests that the free players will be able to rank past rank 20 and continue. It simply states that unranked and custom matches will be locked off to them until they reach PvP rank 20:
BlogThey can play PvP immediately but must get to rank 20 before using custom and unranked arenas.
So perhaps there is no rank limit for free accounts at all?
1) The core game is free forever from today forwards with some restrictions.
2) Up until you reach PvP rank 20, at which you will no longer receive PvP experience but can still participate in it. Further, other areas of the game are free to play now as well, I recommend you read the link I gave above for the full comparison.
Hello Krzysiek, you should submit a ticket for this.
They did gave a refund to people that bought Core game just before the release of HOT (Core is also in HOT)
Not sure if they give a refund to your friend, i think if you bought it within the month they did gave a refund for those people..
You can Always try :-)
+
Was there not some reply from ANET about this when the sale happened earlier this year? I can remember wrong, but I got in my mind they mentioned something about retailers.
Unfortunately, those refunds were only given to those that purchased from the official site and not a 3rd party retailer, so submitting a ticket won’t help much here.
BlogFor all players who purchased the Guild Wars 2 core game from our website and registered it between January 23, 2015 and June 16, 2015 in anticipation of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, we will automatically refund what you paid for the core game should you decide to pre-purchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our website or in-game store any time through July 31, 2015.
As it was from a retailer, I doubt it as once the physical serial code is activated, you can’t really return it. You are more likely to get a refund if you had bought it from the official site here.
You can always try to get a refund by contacting the retailer, but it will be a challenge, so good luck.
I bought the game (preordered HoT) and I cant enter WvW at any lvl. It says I need to become lvl 31 first to unlock it.
So the WvW part that you describe is not correct.
That is correct to some degree. They hid the fact that new players can’t WvW until level 31, but if a new player were to head to Lion’s Arch and enter one of the WvW portals, they will be able to enter WvW instantly, at whichever level they arrive there as.
It is just hidden to try and not confuse new players by showing them everything they can do instantly.
I presume F2P accounts have access to achievements, and they can get a couple of laurels from them.
Otherwise, it works as another incentive for F2P accounts to purchase access to the full game, which I agree with.
Those restrictions are solely for free-to-play accounts. New and existing core and HoT accounts can still enter WvW at any level and get to Lion’s Arch at any level.
As for free accounts, the blog information was quite vague on whether free accounts would be able to access the new HoT borderlands map. However, as core players that don’t have HoT purchased will be able to play in the new borderlands map, I find it relatively likely that free accounts will be able to as well.
As for the server population issue; new players are currently unable to make the T1 WvW servers their home as they are listed as being “full”. This is to help the less-populated WvW servers get a new influx of players that might be interested in WvW. So all servers should have their population balanced out eventually.
Suggested oh so many times on the forums, the only developer response was a year ago:
Evan LeshWe absolutely want to make build templates. They could work similar to GW1, but there are more components to a build now. Using the old string-code method may prove to be unwieldy.
Things that must be in a template:
- Weapons
- Sigils
- Rune
- Amulet
- Skills
- Traits
What could be in a template:
- Skins
- Dyes
- Outfit
- Finisher
Things to consider:
- Sharing (chat links? codes? urls?)
- Viewing (seeing some else’s vs. seeing your own)
- Saving (notepad vs. local vs. account vs. web)
- Building (one spot in UI vs. multiple spots)
- Websites (third-party sites should work with in-game)
- APIs (Could expose an API to third-parties)
- PvP vs PvE vs WvW (each mode requires different configuration options)
How would you like to see any/all of these work?
No major action has been taken since that. However, the game does already save your last template for each game mode WvW, SPvP and PvE, so some build template functionality is already there.
You can.
Just make sure you are purchasing the Standard edition from Amazon (I believe that is the only version they sell) and use the code you receive to apply it to your account rather than create a new one.
Not a bad suggestion to have a 5 minute preview of your new makeover before you commit to it.
However, you would then have to find a solution to this issue; how would you stop players from simply re-applying the 5 minute preview every time it runs out? And thus, they never actually consume the makeover kit, and can infinitely re-change their look forever?
1) This will sound harsh, but it is not Anet’s fault if you decided to not play the game since its release.
2) By microtransaction currency, I presume you mean gems? Veteran players are not given free gems for having bought the core game before it went free to play. What us veterans got was a free outfit, and if you pre-purchased the expansion, a bonus character slot.
3) You don’t have to buy the expansion to continue to play; if you like, you can easily wait a few months after October 23rd until HoT goes on sale and you can pick it up then cheaper if you still intend to play.
