Allow rune swapping on Legendary Armor

Thanks had not seen that. I just hope these raids are not 4 hour affairs. 30 mins from start to finish would be fine. Any longer and it will feel like WoW.

Initially, they will likely take between 1 – 2 hours as players learn the mechanics to each boss and part of the raid. After that, I reckon it will be anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on how prepared your group is.

Can I buy the expansion with gems?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zalladi.4652

And for good reason; you can easily get gems without spending any real life money by gold -> gem conversion. ArenaNet do need money in order to continue producing content for this game, and having a paid-only expansion was the answer to that.

With that said though, you can buy the Deluxe upgrade in the gem store after you purchase the standard edition.

Buy extractors from the gem store, that’s what they are there for, also where did ANet say we are getting legendary armor? The back items yes. I’ve heard, but the rest. Or are people just jumping on the raid announcement of legendary rewards and and thinking that that’s confirmation.

Today’s PAX raid announcement had news on Legendary Armour.

You can go to a bank or crafting area look at the wardrobe storage tab and look at it there in all 3 modes; stowed, wielded and weapon-only.

Although a QoL improvement for previewing from the BLTP would also be a welcome addition.

(Take this with a grain of salt, I have never had a legendary weapon) Since Legendary Weapons don’t allow you to swap sigil sets free of charge from what I have read, one would presume you can’t swap rune sets for free with Legendary Armour.

Private overflows and server lag

Keep in mind that free accounts cannot mail items or coin to any other account, so using a free account to benefit their core stolen accounts is pretty much impossible to do. However, free accounts have some access to the Trading Post, so they could run it through there if they are desperate.

I doubt we will be seeing private overflow farm servers, and if they do become common, Anet can get polish the Legendary ban-hammer.

Well, personally I only had bad experiences with games that went f2p or had f2p servers. I can’t think of one game that has a nice f2p community. Now the veteran players are forced to mix with the f2p players (sorry for all those nice f2p newcomers, I really don’t want to insult you). That’s why I am worried about this move from Anet.

That is true. The only other free-to-play game I had played was LotRO, and the community there still managed to be mature regardless, even in the starting areas, so I don’t have much experience with bad f2p models.

I guess it is good that free accounts won’t be able to use the map chat here.

Few questions from a noob

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

Why couldnt anet make this f2p model for a few months only, and not ‘forever’?
They only purpose is to get people buy the x-pack, so why not just use this system a few months before+after hot release?… Would be much smarter, and there wouldnt be many upset people, like myself. (And older, veteran players would feel less betrayed aswell.)

The system was implemented to allow players that don’t have the money to buy the game up front to try the game before they put that money forward. If they like the game, they will likely buy the full edition. There won’t be many that will stick with the wholly free edition, particularly with HoT on the horizon.

I do not feel betrayed by this model at all. Existing players that are getting upset about this business model are comparing it to other free to play models; this is not the same as other free to play models.

Why do you think Anet made all these restrictions in the first place?
F2p usually attracts bots, scammers, shouting kids, trolls and other people you don’t want in this game. That’s why a lot of people are concerned.

I assume that the majority of immature players will try the game, see all of these restrictions and become so annoyed by them that they won’t stick around for long. Mature players will understand the restrictions and if the game is for them, they will purchase the full edition.

At least that is how I hope the situation will come about, and I understand that it is not entirely likely to happen.

EDIT: Why does so many people try to help f2p players?? You got the game, why do you care about them? They didnt buy it, they shouldnt get anything extra…

That question goes both ways; why are people against f2p players? It allows more people to try the game and if it is for them, they will purchase it and keep the population going.

Apparently it wasnt bad enough that they gave base game to HoT purchasers, making vets pay the original $60 plus another $50 for HoT. But now since we had another eye free he felt the desire to jab it as well with making the base game absolutely free, to everyone.

I’d gladly take limited chat and limited bag slots for free on just one toon until lvl 80, then pay only $50 for HoT and have full game open up. I know thats not how it works, but if you have a brain you know what I’m talking about.

So again, us vets appreciate that, Mikey.

So your 3 years of having access to the game is none existent then? You have had a plethora of free updates in those years that new players joining now will never be able to experience.

Think about that.

Ok, so the core game is going free to play, I read about the restrictions to these accounts, and that’s all good, it encourages people to play the game and maybe move on and buy HoT, so far so good,

There is no doubt that making a F2P game will encourage the masses of bots to reappear into the game, my concern is, if these accounts are played as normal to level 80 and then end up in places like the Cursed Shore, Silverwastes, etc, what exactly is your plan for that, as I think some zones in the game have been nerfed to within an inch of there lives with the loot drops, and masses of bots, may lead to even more nerfed loot drops.

Please don’t nerf our loot, its already been battered so badly its lead to mindless drones running around SW, and don’t push all the loot into the new PvE maps, don’t forget about the other end game content zones, FGS, CS, DT, SW……

They haven’t said anything about nerfing loot drops, so why would you assume that is what they are/will be doing?

If anything, if they find that free accounts are farming too much, they will limit the loot acquisition for free accounts, not for veterans.

Season 2 can be purchased with gems, which can be purchased with in-game gold without having to spend a real life dime. It is completely optional for you to spend more on the game than the base cost, and that can be said for many things currently available – 250 gems per episode is not difficult to reach with converting gold to gems (about 40 gold per episode after the anniversary inflation dies down).

Further, if you really want to experience it without buying it, you can simply party up with someone that has access to it and run all 8 episodes with them (of course though, you won’t get any loot or achievements, merely experience the story).

(Old post: I presume the “special anniversary gift” was the Royal Guard Outfit.

Of course, you could also consider they were talking about the 3-year birthday box.)

I read the post about “raids” coming to GW2. The only MMOs I’ve ever played are Guild Wars 1/2 and Diablo, so I don’t exactly see how raids are different from dungeons.

From the description, they look like 10-man dungeons. But it must mean something else right?

Effectively they are 10-man dungeons, but harder and often require a lot more co-ordination – similar to Triple-Trouble Wurm, but on a smaller scale and more bosses. Raids also seem to often have more unique and rare rewards, although I don’t know if that will apply here.

Beta weekend question

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

Effectively, your real characters and beta characters are kept on two separate accounts under the same name.

Your beta bank slot is separate to your real character bank slots, so anything that you use from your beta character’s bank will not be used from your real character’s bank.

So you can use those skins if you wish, as long as you are taking them out with your beta characters and not your real characters. Further, all gold on your beta characters will disappear once Heart of Thorns releases, so you can spend that as much as you want, without it affecting your real character’s currency.

Do note that skins and other items you unlock on your beta characters shouldn’t appear on your real characters (I haven’t tested this, so I don’t know for sure) with the exception of the ‘???’ item bug.

Further, Stronghold is a new PvP mode coming out that has objectives and goals (break through the enemies’ gates and kill their Lord) rather than capturing points, so I don’t know if that is what you were looking for.

As there have been these new PvP modes in development recently, I doubt we will be seeing another new mode added any time soon.

There is no possibility to give the “core game” to someone else as you will only get the single code.

Silverwaste Shovels

in Living World

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

While traversing around the Silverwastes, you will see occasional mounds of sand on the ground. That is where a chest is hidden for which you can use a shovel to dig it up.

Upon double clicking a shovel, you are given 2 skills to use; the first is to dig up where you are standing, which will uncover a chest if you are standing above a mound of sand (and you can use this skill as many times as you like until you dig up a chest successfully). The second skill will show you any buried chests that are close to you.

I recommend you use them if you are ever on a chest farm Silverwastes map, as then your shovels will benefit a lot of players rather than just yourself and a couple of others. But that is entirely up to you.

Pls Offer Nourishment/Primer/Boost Time Pause

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

One reason the countdown is there is because they want food and nourishment to be a part of that “ooh, do I use this now, or in a minute?” moment.

Additionally, and I can’t explain this any better, but I would find it very bizarre to be able to pause buffs that I place on myself, especially buffs from food which would realistically wear off (at least from my opinion). As well, I sort of like the “rush feeling” of trying to cram as much activity into the buff’s duration as possible, such as Silverwaste chest farming or WvW zerging – it’s a strange adrenaline-esque feeling.

There is the further issue of the Metabolic and Utility primers (which you mention), which are mainly acquired from the gem store. Even though it would be minor, this would reduce the profit of Anet from those items.

(As a side note, you can technically pause the buffs if you log out of that character, but that’s not very feasible)

This is actually incorrect. In order to use traps, you need to be a Dragonhunter. You can’t use traps without the Dragonhunter elite spec slotted, and same with the other Elite specs’ new skills. No Shouts without Reaper/Tempest, no Rage without Berserker, no Physicals without Daredevil, etc. Sorry.

Huh, there was something in my brain that reminded me of using Tempest shouts without the Elite Specialization being equipped. Then again, I did not play the beta for long, so you are probably correct.

first: outfit replace armor skin.
second: no main updated. for 8 month (not included new skin system)
third: pricing for HOT
forth: those new weapon for class. ( war horn for ele, torch for war, staff for Thief)

1) Armor skins still exist, as do Outfits.

2) There have been several updates, such as the Lunar event 6 months ago, the rebuilding of Lion’s Arch in June, as well as the massive Specialization change the same day. Although I must agree there has been a lack of content updates.

3) That complaint was rectified.

4) Those complaints were all subjective opinions, not something that Anet did wrong; some of the community for whichever profession received warhorn/torch would have been frustrated regardless. I am sure there are some that are annoyed at Necromancer’s receiving the Greatsword. Subjective opinions are that – subjective.

And there is also the linen farm which converts karma into gold.

And finally, as previously mentioned, there will be new mastery vendors scattered across Tyria from which you can buy new and old items with karma.

HoT : what do recieve core classes ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

They are not “Elite Specialization classes” but simply “Elite Specializations”.

What the Guardian is getting on the release of Heart of Thorns is the Elite Specialization “Dragon Hunter” – not a new class/profession, but a new play style option for the already existing profession. It is not a completely different profession.

(Not sure on this one:) Players might still be able to use the skills of the Elite Specializations without having to specialize into it, so the core specializations are receiving new abilities on the whole and are still “drastically changing” with the addition of these skills and each Elite Specialization.

Edit: Not entirely sure on accuracy of final paragraph.

The Silverwastes chest farm is pretty good; find a good map with a chest farm commander, have lots of keys, and you can get 100 champion bags in a little over an hour for the average rotation.

Dungeon dailies are also quite good, with some quick ones being Citadel of Flame path 1 + 2, and Ascalonian Catacombs paths 1+3 (from my experience, I know there are others that are quick).

The concept of enemies taking damage upon impact with objects would be very difficult to code for very little strategic payoff, so I doubt we will see something like that in the future.

As for the knocking off of ledges, I believe the reason that does not work for NPC-mobs is because of pathing and combat issues; if you knock a mob off a ledge, by the time it is pathing back to attack you it might enter its non-combat state and reset, causing a lot of issues.

Further, NPC-mobs would also then have to start taking fall damage, which would be difficult to calculate with the scaling system.

They are some neat ideas, but I just don’t think it is viable for Guild Wars 2.

I wouldn’t swear by it, but I thought they said there would be a way for non-xpac owners to get the specializations, just not the new class and other game content. That being said, though, I am not certain.

From all we have seen so far, the Elite Specializations are for expansion purchasers only. The regular, original Specializations that already exist are for all players.

As for the original post, you will unlock the Elite Specialization similar to how you unlock other current Specializations; by leveling it up through the Training Tab of the Hero Panel with Hero Points.

Not a bad idea; it should also be that if you leave the map before claiming the big chest, the loot pops up in a small pop-up chest to the side.

Although, I don’t know how difficult something like that would be to code, but that might pose a problem.

There is the further problem that this might inspire more people to AFK, as they can simply tag the event and then go and do something else and still get the final chest loot.

Agony Resistance Capping

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

Technically, it doesn’t do “absolutely nothing”; 70 AR is needed to nearly negate the Agony stat for level 50 fractals (having 70 AR will reduce the damage tick of Agony to 1%, as opposed to 6% at 65 AR). See the table on this wiki page for more information on that chart.

It may also be in preparation for Heart of Thorns and the new fractal changes that might require more AR in order to get through 50+ level fractals without being killed. But again, we don’t know for sure if players will need more AR, or less (as a fractal mastery might provide some extra AR without needing to apply it to gear).

There are also a few third party sites that guilds post a recruitment announcement for their guild in, for example, Guild Wars 2 Guru.

As a side note, you might not need to look for a dungeon-specific guild, as most general guilds that have a lot of players will regularly play together, including dungeon and fractal runs.

Character creation [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

But we already have this functionality through miniatures (“mobile things”) and tonics, just not bound to the character creation screen.

Similarly, it would reduce the unique aspects of each profession if everyone could have a “mobile thing” that has their own stats and functions to contribute in combat (specifically, the Ranger “pets” and Engineer “Turrets” etc would not be unique), and reducing disparity between professions is not a good thing.
