Edit: When I add the 64-bit client to the list of Nvidia high-performance processor’s, the fps is just as good as the 32-bit client. I’ll have to play for longer to see how memory leak crashes are.

Just finished a fractal dungeon, it bugged when we tried to return to Dessa’s lab. On completing an Elite Specialization training, a crafting recipe is auto consumed to the character that opens the chest, no warning given, or no note that this is going to happen.

This is the only method of acquiring these recipes (so far), so it is very frustrating to discover that a one-time unlock recipe is now bound to a character I didn’t complete all the crafting disciplines in (and have no intention to, as I already have them completed on another character).

Some warning of this, or better yet – an account-bound recipe consumable that can be put in the bank and swapped between characters, would be great.

On completing the Elite Specialization training, we are given a chest with a skin. What it also gives (but doesn’t say or give any warning about) is an auto consume recipe to the character that opens the chest – and only that character receives the recipe, there is no other way to obtain it.

Now there is a large annoyance as I had received one of these recipes on a character that isn’t one of my ‘crafting characters’. Is it possible these recipes could be given as an account bound item in the chest, and then we can choose which character for it to be unlocked on?

I don’t feel like spending lots of gold to level up a crafting profession I already have completed on another character…

Mega super dooper spoilers ahead.

It was very evidently rushed, which is a shame. Up until those last two or three chapters, the story was excellent – great pacing, events and reward. Then as soon as we discover that the Elder Dragons have a weakness, 3 chapters later and boom it’s over.

While the final chapter itself is better in gameplay mechanic to the Zhaitan fight (but not as epic in scale), I personally felt a little depressed once it ended – was that really it for Mordremoth?

I’m still doubting it even now, but hey, the rest of the expansion is incredible.

Welcome back!

The main thing I would recommend is to play through the Living World Season 2 to experience the story in preparation for its continuation in Heart of Thorns.

You can either purchase the Season yourself in the gem store to play through it, or you can find a fellow player that already has it unlocked and play through it with them for free – the Season 2 story is far better than Season 1 and the Personal story.

Other than that, you might want to complete as many hero challenges as possible, as excess hero points will be usable for unlock Elite Specializations on your characters come the expansion.

There are a tonne of other things you should check out, and there are a lot of blogs going up this week with all of the information on the expansion.

Hello, I also want to unlock the carapace leggings, but I do not have enough gold to unlock all the episodes. Is it possible to unlock only episode 7 to get the pants, skip episodes 1 to 6, since I only have enough gold to buy 200 gems for episode 7.?

You should be able to do that.

Open up your story journal and click on Episode 7; you should be able to purchase it individually from there for 200 – 250 gems (I can’t quite remember).

Playing through Episode 7 (specifically, the instance “No Refuge”) will reward you with one leggings box with which you can choose which leggings you want.

I think you can repeat this episode on a different character that hasn’t yet completed it to earn another of these boxes, but I haven’t played through it in a while so I might be wrong on that part.

If you did buy the game when it first started (or before January 23rd 2015) then you will be eligible for the veteran character slot.

Do keep in mind that the veteran slots are given out on a weekly basis (every Friday) and I have read that some players received their slot after 10 days.

Edit: This veteran slot is part of the pre-purchase bonuses, and will no longer be given out come the release of the expansion, seen from this quote here:

Blog

For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account.

(Also as a side note, you will get a further character slot if you purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate editions (or upgrade to the Deluxe through the in-game store), just in case you might confuse that extra slot with the veteran character slot)

Question about Hero point and utili skill

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

As far as I can assume, the Elite Specialization unlocks will work similarly to the current unlocks in the Training Tab; there will be one training category that unlocks the Elite Specialization skills (heal, utility and elite) and another to unlock all of its associated traits. Then I reckon there will be a 3rd to unlock the Elite Spec unique skins (or that will be tagged on to the end of one of the others).

I am only speculating though.

So about silk

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Zalladi.4652

What exactly seems to be the problem here?

Silk price has been quite stable since ascended armor got introduced, so i dont know why they should cut its demand by 33%, 50% or 66%. It would bring it back to vendor value in no time and even add additional demand on all the other tier cloth, which would go up in price.

In the past month alone, the price of silk has increased 50% from approximately 2s to 3s, and it will keep on rising until some months after the expansion releases.

I noticed this as well – it seems to be a bug (I’ve noticed that using the skill after a weapon swap you can see the cooldown stutter a little, as if it was trying to make it start at 66% cooldown complete but it fails).

It could also be that the staff auto attack is using up the buff instead, as the auto attack is insta-cast and will pretty much hit whatever target you have immediately (they need to fix that annoyance).

FPS drop during beta 3 ?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

Check to make sure your graphics settings haven’t changed from before, specifically looking at whether “Render Sampling” is on Supersample, and “shaders” are at high – both of which can cause huge frame rate loss in PvP if your spec can’t take it.

(There’s also “Character Model Limit”, which will severely hurt fps in large fights and WvW, but doesn’t affect much for sPVP)

Otherwise, it might have just been a one-off error which occasionally happens and causes the frame rate to decrease suddenly until you restart the client (I’m no techxpert, so I don’t know the cause of that).

The only difference between the 3 are which infusion you can equip on it. As Utility infusions are only found on amulets, I recommend that you work towards the one that has the utility slot available (this one), but you don’t have to.

In some instances, I have been able to get back in to Astral form in about 3s after leaving it. It is (surprisingly) very easy to get straight back in once it expires, especially for large groups and tonnes of prolonged healing skills that can last even until after Astral form has expired (and give you a big boost towards entering it again immediately).

I’m quite confident this is not intended though, and the numbers will likely be adjusted before launch.

The beta characters use the live servers, so yes both beta and regular characters are mixed together.

"Fear Not This Night" (Verdant Brink)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

That song title is surprisingly apt for the Verdant Brink “night” phase.

I know that the developers stated a while back that the night time we experience in beta is an early iteration of the one ready for release, but as this is the final beta weekend, part of me is worrying that some aspects won’t be too different (at least in terms of atmosphere):

The lighting should be much darker and grimacing, the sound design should be given priority over music and the mobs should be more challenging (although there has been a mysterious nerf for the mobs in this beta, so that shouldn’t be an issue for release). As there has been such a large emphasis on supposed “survival” when night hits and that players should be facing a far greater challenge, I have yet to actually experience this feeling, nor feel alert that I could be attacked at any moment.

Of course this is my opinion though, so I am sure some like the atmosphere in its current state, but I would just like to know how different is the night we are experiencing in beta from the one we will experience at launch?

(Side note: I’m loving the beta so far and I’m looking forward to the 23rd, but I just hope the developers are hiding more aspects of the map for launch to surprise us. At the moment though, Verdant Brink isn’t that exciting outside of its gorgeous level design)

Beta Weekend Druid Feedback Thread

in Ranger

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

Pros:

  • Very fun to play when in large crowds such as zergs and blobs, especially for WvW (although you get very little loot as a Druid from healing so often)
  • When focusing on healing, it is very easy to get straight back into Astral form and continue the incredible amount of healing when in large groups (not sure if it is too quick)
  • New pets are awesome, although the Fire Wyvern F2 skill does take a veeerry long time to complete
  • Traits seem solid, though haven’t had much time to look at all of them
  • Astral Form: I didn’t expect to have so much fun spamming these skills around large crowds in WvW fights and world bosses; although the healing is very significant, perhaps a little too significant? However, it does also get tedious with all of the ground targeted skills being spammed over and over again

Cons:
1) Some glyphs don’t feel valuable:

  • Rejuvenation: So far, so good
  • Alignment: This one in its Astral form is very good at adding extra healing although it is a shadow in comparison to the healing from the main skills of Astral form. Its regular form is not very useful for PvE (PvP might see more use)
  • Equality: 40s for a 5-target 2s daze, not good at all.
  • Tides: Astral form should switch with regular form? The pull radius and/or range should be increased to 450, otherwise Mesmer pull is still the go-to pull skill.
  • Empowerment: 10% damage increase for 6s is very weak compared to what other professions can give for longer (etc, Warrior strength banner + AoE might on critical hit trait). Astral form is very weak.
  • Unity: Not quite sure how this one works yet, so can’t comment.

2) Staff skills lack damage output

  • Skill #1 damage is very low, healing is fine (as it is not meant to be superior healing for an auto attack)
  • Skill #2 is good, although I think the projectile moves a little too slowly
  • Skill #3 is good as a heal (though, shouldn’t this be swapped with skill 5 in Astral form? then?) and the movement effect is nice to have
  • Skill #4 is not good; too little damage and too short an immobilize for something too difficult to aim, and the condi cleanse is a little worthless when condi cleanse is so easily available in Astral form (and with one of the traits) – perhaps make this skill deal more damage?
  • Skill #5 has a good concept, but is doesn’t have much use outside of WvW (I haven’t tried raids yet, so maybe it will have some use there?)

3) (Minor) Staff idle animation is for a melee staff, when we are using it as a caster, so shouldn’t it be changed to the caster idle animation?

4) (Minor) Astral Form: Skill #1 ground target response is a little slow, perhaps make its animation faster? It can be tricky to see where the ground-target is aimed at as the cursor does get lost often and the radius is quite small

5) (Minor) Astral Form: Skill #5 does too many things at too little strength

I might update this after playing through the beta a little more, but so far I have been happily surprised at how fun it is to play, but I only question the number of moments it will be needed.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Zalladi.4652

If they are both giving you a code instantly, then they will come with beta access. If anyone applies any HoT serial code to their account right now, they will be given beta access (although, I’m not sure if it would work for BWE3 as it has already started and I don’t know when you would have had to apply the serial code for it to work – before or after the beta started – so you may have missed it).

The only ones that would not come with beta access were those for ‘pre-order’ as opposed to pre-purchase, which won’t be delivered to you until the release of HoT on the 23rd (although, I haven’t seen any of those yet, so they might not even exist).

Returning, Season 2 question

in Living World

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

It sounds like you might have a couple of the episodes already unlocked. If you logged in, even for a second, between July 2014 – January 2015, you would have unlocked whichever episode was currently live.

You can check to see if you have any unlocked by going into your Hero panel, and clicking on the “Story Journal” icon on the left side and clicking on “Living World Season 2”, and if any of the 8 episodes listed don’t have a padlock next to them, then you have those episodes unlocked.

So when hovering over the item in the store, it will only show you the episodes you have yet to unlock (and it should recalculate the price accordingly).

As for the second question; the Living World Season 2 was likely the most important thing to buy (especially if you love stories) as HoT will continue on the story and encounters of Season 2.

Otherwise, there isn’t anything that is a “must”, but the general things like bag slots, bank slots and other little upgrades that you might need (bag slots if you are going to create a Revenant etc.).

The new pets do sound awesome though, as long as they don’t require the Druid to be slotted in order to be used.

The Glyphs don’t sound too exciting in my opinion, with the exception of the heal glyph, which could be quite useful as an all round skill for groups, and the Empowerment Glyph might be interesting for some support (although Warrior can passively give more damage output to their allies already).

Of course, I’m not held at gunpoint to use the Druid, but I don’t see it being that viable anywhere else other than Raids and occasionally WvW zerg fights, whereas all other Elite Specializations…

[Suggestion] "Fashion Forward" achievement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zalladi.4652

Zalladi.4652

I agree that it should be expanded, although 2,000 would probably be the highest they would set it to as a lot of the skins you would have unlocked can no longer be acquired – namely removed Black Lion Skins, Season 1 skins and seasonal event skins which have not yet been re-introduced (or otherwise through a low-chance lottery).

And having it set so high that it would therefore be impossible for new players to attain (unless, of course, ANet introduce a lot of newer skins which has been very slow lately), I don’t find it likely the cap will ever be increased higher than 2,000. I would think a 2,000 cap would suit a good majority, but I don’t know the exact number of attainable skins in the game at this very moment.

(As a side note, I really wish there were dye collection achievements. And to solve the problem with store-bought only dyes, those unique to the store could be given their own achievement in the “Black Lion Collections” tab, just like the ticket weapon skins are.)

If you open your map and hover your mouse over the name of each map zone, a list should come up saying how much of that map you have completed.

The thing with the other suggestion though, is that once you have 100% map completion, there would no longer be any purpose to a “world completion” tab. And as the ability to see how much of each area you have completed is already available, I don’t see a tab like that being added in the future – it would be too much development work for something that would not be used by many (namely existing players).
