Asuras with glowing eyes?

Asura Necromancers can pick a Wraith mask at character creation that gives them a pure white (with slight greenish tinge) glow to their eyes. You used to be able to get this look on other classes by transmuting the Wraith mask to a white item and then transmuting that white item to a 3rd mask which the final character then wore, but I think ANet may have closed this loophole.

noob. Save or sell junk / trophies?

My strategy:

Sell all junk (grey) items to the vendor.
Salvage all white gear for materials. (I use a Crude Salvage Kit as I honestly don’t see much difference between it and the Basic Salvage Kit.)
Sell all blues to the vendor.
Check to see whether greens are valuable on the TP (and sometimes the upgrade on them can be valuable too). If they are, sell on TP. If not, vendor.
Salvage all Rares for Ectos and upgrades (I use a Mystic Salvage Kit, but a Master works fine too).
Check to see how much an Exotic goes for on the TP (and check the value of the upgrade as well). If it’s worth 1g or more, sell on TP. If not, or if the upgrade is worth more than 1g, salvage it with a Black Lion Salvage Kit for Ectos and sell the upgrade.

Having a summonable creature follow you around until combat also consumes more resources. Every additional object in the world is yet more data that needs to be sent from your game client up to the server and then sent down to every player in the area. As such, it’s unlikely to be implemented as it would mean increasing network traffic for not very much gain.

I’m not too keen on the idea of Largos being a playable race either, but I’m just adopting a “wait and see” stance. My major misgiving with them stem mainly from the fact that, as an aquatic race, it wouldn’t make sense for them to be adventuring for days, weeks or even months away from the ocean. They also feel like a very one-dimensional race (but then again, I thought much the same thing about the Norn in EotN).

On a more practical level, underwater areas and combat are actively hated by a large part of the player base, so if the Largos were to be introduced alongside an underwater capital city and a greater emphasis on underwater combat, we’d probably see a backlash that I think ANet would be better off avoiding in the first place.

How to prevent a DE from getting suck?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

It could be any number of reasons depending on the event. For example, the Frozen Maw event could get stuck if Scholar Brogun just happened to die to condition damage in the one second between one event finishing and the second beginning. The Cattlepult event could get stuck if one of the cows was lured too far away by a harpy and then didn’t know how to get home. (Stupid cow…) In the early days, several skill challenge NPCs could also be made permanently dead by using a Launch skill to knock them out of their area where they died due to condition damage on them.

These causes have since been fixed, but they’re a good example of how events can break through extremely rare conditions that the testers couldn’t anticipate.

Charr Culture - More Than War?

Zaxares.5419

I wouldn’t say that a Charr cub is exposed to nothing but “war, war and more war”. Sure, warband mentality and loyalty to the Legions is greatly impressed upon them, but the fahrar isn’t about turning every single Charr into a soldier. Every Charr is given combat training as part of their schooling, but not every Charr that leaves the fahrar goes on to be a soldier. What the fahrar Primus does is evaluate each cub during their schooling to see what talents they possess. If a Charr cub shows aptitude for animals, for example, they might get apprenticed to a warband that specialises in raising cattle or devourers. Once they grow up and join a warband, they might get assigned to a ranch far from the front lines and never see any action as a result.

What’s more, all that training does not preclude a Charr having hobbies. They are still individuals at the end of the day, and not one-dimensional individuals that think of nothing but fighting.

Soft Wood is harvested from Gummo Saplings (Kryta and Ascalon), Mimosa Saplings (Maguuma) and Snow Cherry Saplings (Shiverpeaks). These are mostly found in level 15 – 20 zones, although in some cases you may still find T1 wood nodes in the early sections of these zones. (Snowden Drifts still has Aspen Saplings near the portal leading to Wayfarer Foothills, for example.)

They do much the same things as other races do. They hang out in bars, gamble, visit the cow races, spend time with their mates or cubs etc. The Charr PC in the Iron Legion background apparently spends his/her time in-between active duty designing their Ghostbore weaponry, although it’s left open-ended as to whether they did it to exercise their creative abilities or as a way to catch the attention of their superiors. I see no reason why other Charr couldn’t have hobbies on the side, whether its traditional Charr pasttimes such as hunting or fishing, or more “refined” pursuits like sculpture or painting that they picked up by spending time among non-Charr. There’s one female Charr in Diessa Plateau who talks about melting down old metal trash so she can forge them into lanterns and sell them. Kastaz Strongpaw in the same map has his own personal garden, and he looks to be growing ornamental flowers as much as vegetables/chickens for consumption.

Talking to the NPCs at Meatoberfest suggests that soldiers are indeed given time off between tours of duty (Meatoberfest was created specifically as a venue for these soldiers to blow off steam). During the Blood Legion storyline, Rytlock also gives the Charr PC an extended leave of absence from their responsibilities so they can pursue personal matters with their sire.

I just play normally. Go out, complete hearts and events, kill monsters. I salvage whites for mats and Rares for ectos, vendor blues, sell greens on the TP if they’re worth it (else vendor them). Once I finish a stack of mats, I sell it on the TP for a nice chunk of change.

It’s not the fastest way of earning money, but it’s a slow and steady accumulation. (Not to mention that I’m also accumulating a fair bit of value in terms of unsold rarer materials.) I don’t spend a lot, so this method works for me.

Stealing from guild bank

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

As others have said, it’s not a bannable offense as the Guild Leader made the decision to allow all members to withdraw items and money freely from the Guild Bank, but it is a VERY scummy thing to do. (And the fact that you would leave the guild to flee afterwards means you know very well that what you’re doing is wrong and would result in repurcussions.)

This is why I concur with Bron above; if you’re a GL, never, EVER, allow new guild members access to remove items from the Guild Bank. Feel free to allow anybody to add items to the Guild Bank, but only officers or trusted members should be able to remove items from it.

In my guild, we’ve further restricted this so that guild members (who have completed a probationary period) can withdraw items from the Guild Stash, but only Officers can withdraw items from the Guild Vault. (And only the Leader/Co-Leaders can withdraw items from the Deep Cave.) Cheap items (25c or less) are stored in the Guild Stash, while more valuable items (25c – 1s) are stored in the Guilt Vault. Super-expensive stuff (anything worth more than 1s) is stored in the Deep Cave. If a guild member wants to requisition an item from the Vault/Cave, they need to contact an officer and plead their case as to why they want it.

Why are infusions so terrible?

Zaxares.5419

Have you not see the number of complaints floating around about how much better ascended gear is than exotic gear? Maybe we’re on different forums.

The reason the stats are so low is because Anet isn’t making a game where gear matters as much to begin with. They wanted only cosmetic items in the first place and found that some people absolutely didn’t care about cosmetics at all. So they compromised. They gave modest stat upgrades to people who actually felt they needed to grind for better gear.

If they gave a real upgrade, they’d kitten off the rest of us even more.

^ This. Ascended items already have better baseline stats than Exotics. If Infusions gave another big boost on top of that, it would make Exotics completely obsolete, with the result that many players would just skip Exotics altogether and go straight to Ascended items through Laurels or Fractals.

Ascended items were designed to be a bit more powerful than Exotics, but not too much, and give people who like grinding for BiS gear something to work towards. Outside of Fractals, there’s little practical reason to wear all Ascended items; the end-game is still designed with Exotic gear in mind. (Although it remains to be seen if power creep will change this as time goes by.)

The only way I would support Ascended items and infusions getting a boost to their power is if ANet also increases the ways one can get Ascended gear (namely, by either allowing crafters to craft Ascended gear, or including new recipes to upgrade Exotic items to Ascended tier via the Mystic Forge. The latter would be my preferred method).

Drop rates WERE sort-of nerfed too. It’s now once per account per day instead of once per character per day. As a result, I do expect supply to fall, resulting in an increase in the price of Ectos, but not as much as prices are now. Ultimately I expect it will stabilise around the 28 – 30s mark.

Charr society is militaristic in nature (as you pointed out, everything done in Charr society goes towards the upkeep and improvement of the Charr war machine), but when you get down to the personal level, individual Charr have just as much variation in personality and goals as any other sentient race. Some are brave, some are cowardly. Some are boisterous, some are reserved. Some are ambitious and want to achieve great things, while others are content with collecting their pay and heading to the bar after a day’s work. Thus, the daily lives of the average Charr citizen can really be almost anything you want it to be.

No Bones, No Blood . . . Where are They?

Zaxares.5419

I want to know how I get bones from Oozes, and also have some questions about “blood” from karkas, given that they’re obviously crustaceans.

Oozes, in a general RPG setting, have almost always, from the early primitive days of RPG’s, had remnants of their victims inside them that they dropped (well when RPG’s started having drops, the super early ones didn’t do that, you had to roll for random chance to recover a specific item…ect ect…it was a mess). King’s Quest, if anyone remembers that, had a few dungeons full of them and every single one had bones in it. Just go look at any Baldur’s Gate game, they were infested with oozes in half of the dungeons, and nearly every one of them had some kind of bone or other very solid material you wouldn’t expect in them.

I remember King’s Quest games but anything earlier than 4 is kind of blurry. Mostly . . . well, mostly because I was too young and my position in playing them was taking notes on where things were when we would (inevitably) need to backtrack.

. . . I don’t recall oozes/slimes involved . . . I do recall gelatinous cubes. (Those sons of . . . )

Um, I remember gelatinous cubes from the PS2 Balder’s Gate game. Yeah, they dropped coins >_>

Still could fall under the “indigestibles” theory of ooze diets. It’s more bizarre to have creatures like wolves dropping a human-sized breastplate. (How did they even carry that??)

in Mesmer

Greatsword is probably the best direct damaging weapon Mesmers have, but I don’t use it for aesthetic reasons. I use Scepter/Pistol and Staff as my weapons, focusing mainly around shattering, but my Staff is actually my go-to weapon for when I need more damage*. With the Illusionary Elasticity trait plus 2 clones and Illusionary Warlock, you can do a LOT of damage by running up to an enemy and just throwing Winds of Chaos in their face at point blank range. Throw on Chaos Storm for more boons/conditions for twice the fun!

*This setup really sucks when you need to destroy objects though. I have to rely on Illusionary Duelist for that.

level 14 ele keeps dying a lot

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zaxares.5419

Zaxares.5419

It may come down to a matter of playstyle. I use almost the exact same setup as the OP and barring some situations where I foolishly overaggroed more than I could handle, there’s very few enemies I can’t defeat as an Ele. I start out in Earth and throw Eruption (skill 2) on the enemy (this doesn’t damage them immediately, so it’s a great starter attack), then switch to Fire and cast Flame Burst (skill 3) to open. By now the Eruption should have exploded, inflicting a nice stack of Bleeding on the enemy, plus Burning. Back up a bit while tossing Fireballs, then drop Lava Font at your feet when the enemy closes in. At this point I use Arcane Wave for more damage + stacks of Might, then use Burning Retreat (skill 4) to dodge backwards and force the enemy to run through more fire to get to me. By this point they’re usually dead, but on the off-chance they’re still alive, I drop another Lava Font at my feet and throw Arcane Bolt at them. This almost certainly drops them.

For Veterans, I recommend summoning an Elemental (or two, if you also have Glyph of Elementals) to help draw attention away from you, then just using Flame Burst and Eruption to whittle them down with condition damage. Switch to Water and use Geyser and Healing Rain to keep your elementals healthy from time to time.

To the OP, that Veteran Chaos Monster you’re talking about has always hit extremely hard, dealing damage comparable to a Champion. He may warrant a look at by the devs, but it’s more likely that as a “Shade” enemy, he has lots of stats put into Power and Precision, but very little into Toughness or Vitality as he goes down quite quickly if you can snare him in AoE or just make use of the friendly Skritt nearby to tank him.

There are several other monster types in the world which hit extremely hard, but don’t have a lot of health. This includes Skelk, Wolves (god, I hate these guys, especially with their Summon ability) and Wasps. They’re probably all using “glass cannon” stat spreads.

While I agree the current situation is unacceptable, randomized dragon/big events are not a good idea because they could result in a situation where someone, through a combination of real life obligations and extreme bad luck, just never manages to be around when a dragon spawns.

What I propose instead is INCREASING the frequency of dragon spawns. Have them spawn once every hour, but each chest can only be opened once per character per day (and it applies across all servers), so there’s no real point in camping there once than once, and there’s no point in guesting to other servers.
