From what I’ve heard, Fire Storm is technically much more potent for doing raw AoE damage, because each “meteor” counts as a separate attack (affecting up to 5 targets), and the rapid speed at which the meteors strike means that it can deal a lot more damage to a tightly clustered mob than Sand Storm (which only affects a total of 5 targets per second standing in the cloud). Traited with Elemental Surge, I believe each of those attacks also does inflict Burning, making it quite powerful indeed.
I do agree that Air is rather lacklustre though. Maybe give it a chance to Stun (1s) foes caught within the field, meaning that in combination with other AoE attacks, it can be a deadly trap.
Heh, it’s that cheap already? I remember checking the TP for it after it was finally confirmed and the price was 156g. Ah well, at least this will make my guildie happy. She’s been after Final Rest for the skin.
To be fair, we don’t know for certain whether or not the huge mass of people there ARE mostly guests, or whether it’s due to the fact that world chests got a massive loot buff and thus lots of players native to that server who wouldn’t normally bother with doing those events are now showing up. The lag is DEFINITELY a problem; nobody’s arguing with that. (Hell, I’ve griped about it myself in a few threads.) We just need to find a solution that will address the real problem and not what may turn out to be not the cause anyway.
There’s an easy way to ensure that players can’t abuse a hypothetical flagging option. You can only flag yourself as PvP/non-PvP while within your “safe-zone”, the area guarded by Legendary Defenders. While flagged as non-PvP, all of your weapon and utility skills are disabled. Furthermore, while flagged as non-PvP, you can only see other non-PvP flagged players. Other PvP players are completely invisible to you. Likewise, PvP players cannot even see (nor affect) non-PvP players.
Eh, I see the term “Rare item” as more of a holdover from early days of MMO’s. I believe to the majority of GW2 players, Rare items are more of a “more valuable than usual” item. Exotics are the true (new?) “rare drop”.
What do you have to go for if you’ve already got all the best gear your character can get easily?
Exploration. RP. PvP. WvW. Jumping Puzzles. Guild missions. Gear is not the be-all and end-all of in-game goals. It may be for some players (and if tweaking your character to have the ultimate BiS gear if what you’re after, then work for a Legendary and a full set of Ascended gear), but for a lot of us, we’d rather that getting Exotics is not a difficult task so we can hold our own in end-game content.
That chest is always there regardless of whether you defend her or not. (It’s just a minor chest that tends to reward blue-quality loot.) I will usually run on ahead to open the chest first, then run back and defend Parna.
I did find a Fishing Pole in the same area once, although like you, it had no skills underwater. As I was in the area to farm the Barracudas for Small Scales, I promptly dropped the Fishing Pole to resume my hunting, so I don’t know if it had any skills on land either.
Limiting the big event chests to once per character per day sounds like a fair compromise to me.
Either that, or subsequent openings have DR applied to it so they no longer give Rares/Exotics.
Gatherings of Oakhearts/Mosshearts/Pinesouls are usually good places for those. Greatheart Weald in Queensdale and Wychmire Swamp in Caledon Forest are two good places where several Veterans spawn.
Grendich Ruins in Diessa Plateau also has several Veteran ghosts, but they can be tricky to deal with as they all like attacking at once.
Aside from that, most maps have Veterans in fair numbers. For example, if you start from the SE corner of Kessex Hill and work your way N, you can find:
- Veteran Sea Scorpion (in Garrenhoff harbor)
- Veteran Ettin (atop a hill overlooking Garrenhoff)
- Veteran Bear (near the hole where Kari falls into)
- Veteran Cave Troll (at the end of the Collapsed Observatory jumping puzzle)
- Veteran Cave Spider (check inside the cave near the farm N of Garrenhoff)
- Veteran Cave Troll and Veteran Chromatic Ooze (inside the caves behind the waterfall near the vista)
- Veteran Bandit (near the Earthworks waypoint)
- Veteran Draithor’s Wurm (in Draithor’s Demenses)
I think ANet should change it so that anybody who participates in a guild mission, regardless of whether they’re part of the guild or not, gets the reward. Non-guild members just get a lesser amount of the reward (like maybe half the Commendations).
If a guild starts a Guild Bounty and other people kill the boss before they can get to him, they still earn the credit for successful completion anyway.
Why should players not in the starting guild get the same rewards? The guild, and its players, are the ones responsible for earning the influence to have and start the missions. You should not get the same rewards as those who have contributed to being able to do the missions.
If you’ll re-read my initial post, I did say that people who are not part of the starting guild get a LESSER reward. At the same time, I also suggested that if a guild starts a Bounty mission and other players kill the boss before they can get to him, all members of the starting guild get the full reward as if they had participated anyway.
My suggestion makes it easier for both guild and non-guild members alike to enjoy the fruits of guild missions. (And as a nice side-benefit, also provides a way for players who aren’t in large guilds with the Influence necessary to start these missions to gain Commendations to spend.)
I did read your post and i stand by what i said. If your guild wants to enjoy the “fruits of guild missions” then you should earn the influence to do guild missions. As it stands you do get rewards just not the same rewards. There is more that goes into guild missions than killing the marks. Coordinated effort of the guild to log on, search for marks, communicate location, coordinate which mark to kill first as well as organizing parties to do it. Not to mention the time required to earn the influence to be able to do guild missions in the first place. The killing of the bounties is the least amount of work involved in guild missions.
All fair points, although I fail to see how non-guild members getting things like Commendations (which could even be a minimum amount like 1) for helping out with a guild mission not started by them would hinder or harm your guild in any way. The impression I got from ANet was that guild missions were a way for larger guilds to create content that was fun and rewarding for everyone in the game world, a sort of “This event sponsored by Guild ABC!” feeling.
Heck, maybe guild missions could be changed so that the more participants who take part in the mission, even if they’re not part of the guild, gives more Guild Merits for each participant (x2 or x5 for guild members). For missions such as Guild Rushes or Guild Puzzles, perhaps the guild unlocks access to the particular Rush/Puzzle for 24 hours, and then you encourage as many unique players to attend the mission for more Merits.
I think ANet should change it so that anybody who participates in a guild mission, regardless of whether they’re part of the guild or not, gets the reward. Non-guild members just get a lesser amount of the reward (like maybe half the Commendations).

Shields always have one skill that blocks attacks, but it’s usually a situational skill that is used when the situation calls for it (e.g. a karka is using its Spit of Death attack). Shields also give a bonus to your defense, which reduces your damage taken, but it’s a modest amount that won’t see a dramatic drop.
Now I’m tempted to create a Charr guild called “Smurf” consisting solely of Charr like “Bloodthirsty Smurf”. XD
The monthly has also crashed the price of plated dowels for all tiers to ridiculously low levels. XD I was sorely tempted to buy some instead of crafting them for my crafting burst this Tier, but I eventually decided against it as I needed the crafting XP for my characters anyway.
I support T3 Cultural gear being raised to Exotic status.
To the people claiming that Exotic gear is “so easy to get”, then having T3 Cultural gear also being Exotic shouldn’t be a problem, right? After all, it’s a lot tougher to get than just speedrunning CoF path 1 5+ times a day.
To the people claiming that buying Cultural armor is done purely for the skins, then why bother having Cultural armor as an “armor” at all? They should just have been armor skins that you apply to an existing set of armor, like the Gem Store appearances and the HoM skins.
As it stands, it feels like you’re buying two sets of armor, only to destroy one. Definitely feels wasteful to me.
I’d personally increase the damage of Confusion in PvP/WvW to match that in PvE (Confusion is all about shutdown really. Decide between using a skill or taking massive damage). At the same time, double the duration of Confusion in PvE to ensure it will at least get one or two ‘strikes’ on an enemy. When we’re on the receiving end of Confusion in PvE, we can either use condition removal skills, or just kite AI enemies around until it wears off.
The Air Elemental has the exact same animations as it did before. All the art team did was give it lightning ‘limbs’ where before it was invisible.
Personally I don’t mind the new look, although I do agree the old one was more “airy”.
I usually just stick to Earth and bleed out opponents with skills 1 and 2. Most underwater enemies are slow and don’t attack very quickly, allowing you to run circles around them just blasting their faces with gravel.
If you get in a pinch, Earthen Anchor will also give you an opening to run.
Conditions tend to be my bane underwater, so I usually bring Cleansing Fire as a safeguard against that.
Heartily support this suggestion, although it’s been made before. I also agree that all events with Champions (especially Group Event champions) should give a chest as a reward. They need not be of the same quality as the other chests; Splendid chests would probably suffice as a reward in most cases.
Other examples of Champs that deserve chest rewards include:
- The Nageling Giant
- The Blood Witkittenessex Hills (this one should be a Glorious chest due to its difficulty)
- The Krait Witch in Caledon Forest
Perhaps change it so that you need an invite from somebody who’s on that Home Server to guest on it? Or you need to be a member of a guild which calls that server their Home?
I hate having to introduce these restrictions on guesting, but running into Lost Shores-style lag just for trying to attend events on my server is intolerable.
I think ANet should change it so that anybody who participates in a guild mission, regardless of whether they’re part of the guild or not, gets the reward. Non-guild members just get a lesser amount of the reward (like maybe half the Commendations).

Is not just Gandara or Tarnished Coast or some other server. Most servers have overflow on all 3 dragon events and Shadow Behemoth. people are too lazy/impacient to wait for the event to spawn on their home server so they check the dragon timer websites and guest on a server where th event is just about to spawn.
Since the event chest can be looted only once a day per character that means the 3 hours waiting time to stop the farmers is unnecessary. They should lower the waiting time for those events to something like 1 hour. 3 hours is too much. Frozen Maw and Fire elemental don’t have overflow servers because they reset every 30-45 minutes.
Making the dragon events spawn more often would help spread the population a little bit so the event would have less lag and less people at the same time, therefore no overflow.
This would be a great solution! I do not see why the events can not take place more often, perhaps twice as often would help?
+1. Since the chests are already restricted to being opened once per day, having the events run more frequently should help thin out the crowds because there’s no real point to doing the event multiple times (especially when DR kicks in).
There is a chance to get a Fine Transmutation Stone as part of Map Completion, I believe (I’ve gotten a couple before), but it’s quite rare. I got mine from completing low level zones like Metrica Province, but in far too insufficient quantities for it to be anything more than a pleasant surprise. If you really need FTS’s, I’d suggest buying some gems and then waiting for them to go on sale this month.
Well, you CAN get Slabs of Red Meat from Wolves, Bears and Jaguars… >.>
Consortium gives, but not to us. “Their smiles do not reach their eyes. We eat none of what they have touched.”
I don’t think he means that literally. He is wiser than he appears. I reckon he means that the Consortium does not give out of charity but has some ulterior motive. Hence why he instructs the other Grawl not to eat what they give them; he doesn’t trust them.
Yeah, I think the chieftain’s dialogue is a bit vague. Depending on your interpretation, it could either mean that the Consortium hasn’t been offering aid to the Grawl (and they don’t want it anyway), or the Consortium HAS been offering aid to the Grawl as well, but the Grawl have refused it.
Personally, I still lean towards the second interpretation as it might raise accusations of “favouritism” towards the Consortium, and their actions seem obviously calculated to raise their company’s battered reputation.
Wow… I’ve been in Caledon Forest multiples times and I’ve NEVER noticed that. I need to look up more often!
Batdogi, that’s a really useful tip for anybody who only has Chef as their crafting discipline.
+1’d your post for that.
I don’t really mind the Daily variety as it is now, but I do agree that there should be a bit more stability in it. What I propose is having three core Daily activities that are always fixed:
- X/50 Kills
- X/20 Gatherer
- X/5 Events
The subsequent six activities are random from day to day, and the odds of finding 2 out of the 6 that synergize well with your playstyle should be easy.
Or, if you have 100 JC you can just buy silver and make filigrees to combine with gemstones to make Intricate jewels. Because silver is exceptionally cheap, and so are the gemstones.
It probably won’t be for long once knowledge of this becomes common.
Astral’s suggestion above is the way I would do it. Get your friend to join the guild, put the money in the Bank, and then you remove it.
I’m not sure if that’s possible… To advance the Master Crafter monthly requirement, you need to craft Masterwork (green) or higher items. As far as I know, all food are blue items (Only up to 160+ myself, so I don’t know if this changes at higher levels). That could mean that Chef is the only crafting discipline that can’t complete this month’s Monthly.
EDIT: Somebody suggested crafted Master rank dyes as a possible solution. I haven’t ever crafted any dyes, but that’s something you might want to try.

Let’s not get into that ugly debate about whether or not dark-skinned Norns are lore-breaking… :/
As Windu posted, the Asura who experimented on Malomedies was Kudu, who also founded the Inquest. He is a man who has little to no empathy for any other non-Asuran race (and possibly not even his own kind, if they get in the way of his goals). Had a different Asura made first contact with the Sylvari, things might have turned out very differently.
IQ tests are not necessarily an accurate quantifier of intelligence. They tend to favour participants with strong language and mathematical skills.
Tell him that if he wants more ears, he should date a Charr. They’ve got 4!
They may not taste very good though. In Plains of Ashford, you can overhear two Charr talking about their favourite foods, and one of them says, “NOT harpy. Tastes like chicken covered in sewage.”
Heh, I actually had a great opportunity from the February monthly. Since I knew I would not be getting the Monthly as I’m not ready to do dungeons, I instead profitted greatly from selling all the low-level salvage items like Tattered Hides whose prices jumped to 5 or 6 times their vendor value.
Woot! This may be the very first month I actually complete my Monthly!
To the people saying that the Consortium don’t want Grawl refugees in Southsun, that wasn’t quite the impression I got. Talking to the Refugee Grawl Chieftain in LA reveals that the Consortium have been giving food and other goods to the Grawl as well, but the Grawl have refused any aid given to them by the Consortium. As the chieftain put it, “Their smiles do not touch their eyes. We do not eat food that they have touched.”
It’s fairly obvious that the Consortium is helping the refugees for their own ulterior motives (probably in an attempt to salvage their Southsun Cove holiday destination idea), but I very much doubt that they’re the ones behind the Dredge/Flame Legion attacks. They’ve simply spotted an opportunity and pounced on it.
My money would go to Shiro Tagachi. We had a chance to play as Turai Ossa himself in the Bonus Mission Pack in GW1; I don’t think he could stand up to Shiro in a fight.
I think Logan might just break the treaty to get his woman back, and we’d have the war, and those petty Destiny’s Edge squabbles again.
Rytlock: You Killed an Imperator!
Logan: Well He Married My Queen!
Rytlock: ROAR!
Logan: ARRRGH!*Fighting Insues
*Elder Dragons wipe everyone out.
And now is the point where I reveal I’m secretly a champion corrupted by Abbadon Kralkatorrik! With the Charr and Humans thrown into disarray, there will be nothing to stop my Master’s forces from conquering Ascalon and Kryta!
It’s a pity we don’t have any pictures of what the underground Asuran cities looked like. We might be able to extrapolate from that whether or not Asuran architecture evolved substantially from below-ground to above-ground, and draw possible connections to determine if Rata Sum was indeed an ancient Asuran city.
I won’t rule out the possibility, but I’m still more inclined to think that Rata Sum was built by another ancient race (possibly the Seers).
There’s no ‘hurting alts’…whether you choose to invest 10 hours in one toon or 1 hour in 10 toons is not relevant to whether they should be rewarded or not… and unsure why you think it should be.
That’s because the example you gave is faulty. It’s not a case of “invest 10 hours in one toon” vs “1 hour in 10 toons”. It’s a case of “invest 10 hours in one toon” vs “invest 100 hours across 10 toons”, but you receive no additional benefit for investing 10 hours on each toon beyond the first.
As far as I’m concerned though, I could take it or leave it with Dailies being character-bound; I’d love to be able to equip my alts faster, but I’m not sure my sanity could take having to do Dailies 5 times. :P
Heh, this also creates a logical plot hole where if the Krait really did live in the deepest parts of the ocean, they would probably all die if they came up to the surface. Animals which live at extreme depths of the ocean are adapted to live under the crushing pressure found there, and usually can’t survive if brought to shallower waters, let alone going onto land.
I want the money for my rares fast, and I want roughly what they’re worth, give or take a few silver. I don’t bother with the 1c undercut game because in my experience it just results in me spending more time playing the market against people who actually enjoy playing the market. I’ll go for the 1-5s undercut because I’m still getting very near the market value of my item, but I’m still selling it within the day or even hour.
This allows me to make solid money from drops and the MF without actually needing to play the market and worry about my profit margin. Which in turn allows me to spend my time doing things I enjoy, like getting more drops.
That’s my reasoning and strategy too.
I’d rather be spending my game time out and about doing things rather than refreshing the TP window every 2 seconds. XD
Wurm projectile attacks DO sometimes count twice, if you dodge at exactly the right moment. I think it’s because their attacks actually have two potential hits; one when the projectile hits you, and another which is an AoE splash attack when it hits the ground. However, if you get hit directly by the projectile, the splash attack doesn’t occur.
Heh, I bet the devs are all like “Stop trying to rule 34 my game!”
Resistance is futile.
Anyway, the devs have spoken. While we, as humans, and other races in-game may certainly perceive the actions of Sylvari-Sylvari intimate relationships as incestuous, the concept doesn’t really apply to Sylvari.
I remember my battles with Magni the Bison from GW1 fondly. Now there was a REAL Norn.
