lol, you are a dev, right? I always knew there were some of you posting incognito in the forums.

I’m a dev because I’m not jumping on the rage train with the other impatient members of the community about a late fireworks show in a game? Yeah ok. How dare I respond in a calm, rational manner!

Public Relations and Developers are different. Public Relations rep should be the one posting while the devs work.

Yes, thank you for that. I’m well aware of the difference. The post I responded to clearly stated “devs.”

Anet’s policy thus far has been to never take the blame for any of their screw ups. They never provided timely notices for things like this. When the official word comes out, it will be something in the line of “people misunderstood – it is not our fault.”

You do know this is a game, right?

Probably because they’re busy, you know, working on the game. That said, I’m having the same problem.

Take away the “a” in the beginning and notice what is spelled. lol

Oh geez. lol

And I still think that simply talking to the campers will help, at least in many cases. Or camping a spawn yourself and then offering to group with people you see around. If you want community, it just seems you’ll have to put some effort in to it this time instead of just the passive sense of community that occurs with, say, dynamic events. At the least, don’t just assume people camping the spawn points are going to be jerks about it before you even bring up the suggestion of working together. Talk to them, give them a chance. I find life tends to go easier that way.

/2cents

In many cases I think that’s fine. The issue is the random person running up, activating the holo emitter, and then killing the mob before anyone can say anything. I’ve had people repeatedly do that to me. Talking to the people that do that has usually resulted in a very rude comment. It’s people like that that this needs to be changed for. Most people are fine with it. It’s just the jerks that run up and steal the kills that are the problem. This is really like resource nodes in other MMOs. Guild Wars 2 is above that kind of approach, IMO.

I haven’t actually been able to get in game to do these yet, but from what I’ve read here, can’t you all just ask to group up with the ppl already camping and agree to take turns killing the holograms? Or coordinate your attacks so you hit them together?

That’s a good idea in theory. The problem is all it takes is one person to not care about anyone else in the area and kill them before you have a chance to tag the enemies. They drop insanely fast if you have a high damage build. It’s griefing akittens finest.

Edit: Why is a swear filter being applied to my post? The word “at” followed by “its” is swearing? lol

You need to get 1st place for all 3 points. I know this because I’ve gotten 2nd place several times in a row and only 1st place actually counted for the achievement. So no, it isn’t a 60% chance at all.

Honestly…if you go to low lvl zones to have an easy farm, you better be competing with hundreds of people. Move to high lvl zones, barely anyone around there and most people that are, are actually waiting a little before activating. So – maybe instead of QQing about the system, you should think about finding your own solution?

That’s a good idea…except that it doesn’t work because the same exact problem is happening in obscure zones as well.

100% agreed. It’s an absolute nightmare to kill the holo minions for the exact reasons described in this thread. They’re so incredibly easy to grief, and like the Dragon Ball food exploit that existed before the last patch, people are doing exactly that.

Rich dragon coffers clarification pls

I don’t think this was meant to be a debate, only a clarification. The official text seems to read (a LITTLE ambiguously) that you have a rare chance from non-gemstore sources, OR you can simply buy them. Again, it’s ambiguous, but it reads like a rich coffer guarantees. Any actual experiences? Or maybe just a dev to quiet it.

Actual experience here. 80 rich dragon coffers: 3 tickets, 1 mini, and the rest was candy. The rich dragon coffers don’t guarantee anything except lots of candy and disappointment it seems.

We have assumed the same about ascended amulets and earrings. So far nothing has changed, though.

The difference with this item though is that all other back items have infusion recipes in the Mystic Forge. This puts people that have created the ascended version of the Sclerite Karka Shell at a disadvantage (in fractals anyway) over people that have gone with different ascended back items. It’s reasonable to assume that a recipe will be added to correct this sooner than recipes that let you infuse ascended accessories.

Fractals: harpies become invulnerable?

This is probably one of the most annoying bugs in the game. This fractal is frustrating enough under ideal conditions but it’s doable if you have a little coordination with your group. However, the harpies constantly going invulnerable, even if you’re standing right next to them, is just ridiculous. It occasionally happens in other parts of the game as well but this fractal is by far the worst offender as it’s pretty much guaranteed to happen every single run. They continue to blast you with their AoE attacks and you can’t hurt/interrupt them while they’re in this state. This is extremely frustrating.

To clear things up. Karma temple armor is soulbound on acquire; karma trinkets and back items aren’t. They’re account-bound, soulbound on use. A simple /wiki or a travel to any temple would have sufficed to know that. Don’t spread wrong informations.

Not sure who you’re referring to when it comes to spreading wrong info but I clearly stated karma armor and weapons. Trinkets and back items are the exception, not the rule.

+1 Avatara. There is not a popup that you remember that is SOUL BOUND.
It s simple to put it ACCOUNT BOUND on aquire and SOUL BOUND when equiped.

It clearly states that the armor is “Soulbound on Acquire.” I’m sorry that this happened to you but it couldn’t be more clear in the item description. Karma armor and weapons work exactly the same way.

Having said that, I do think that the armor should be usable in the Mystic Forge at least. I can sort of understand why they don’t want you using karma weapons and armor in the forge but if you’re spending actual gold plus other materials, I’m not sure what the harm is in that.

How I wish... (Wasting money)

Zedd.8239

I bought a few costumes in Guild Wars 1 outright because I knew exactly what I was getting for my money. I’m willing to do the same in Guild Wars 2 to support ArenaNet if I know exactly what I’m getting/what my odds are. For example, I bought one of the panda hats. And I’ve bought the unlimited harvesting tools. Personally, I’d rather just buy an item I want directly and not have to put up with these RNG boxes that only have a “rare chance” of getting me what I actually want. If I’m paying real money for something, I want to know what I’m getting.

These RNG boxes have really soured my opinion of ArenaNet. They’re nothing more than a scheme to make a quick profit. It’s a really poor business model for the long term. In the short term it’s probably fine since there will be people that fall for it (hell, I fell for it initially and I feel terrible about it). In the long run, I think this strategy is going to hurt sales more than help them. At the very least it’s going to create a lot of very disgruntled customers and that is NOT good for the health or longevity of a game.

I think Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet, and the living story are all great. But this RNG weapon ticket strategy is something I simply cannot support. I think it’s rather dishonest and it does more to hurt the game/community than it does to help it. I’ve read so many posts about people getting tickets and not even caring about the weapons while people that really want them have spent tons of gold/real money and farmed an ungodly number of hours just for a chance to get them. Yet they haven’t found a single ticket. There’s something seriously wrong with this, especially if real money is in play. It isn’t rewarding for players who genuinely work at obtaining something to repeatedly get burned over and over again. It damages player morale, it isn’t fun, and it ultimately just lowers player opinion of ArenaNet.

I seem to recall that the exotics I just bought at the Temple of Grenth gave me the ‘Are you sure you wish to equip this? It will become Soulbound’ warning when I equipped the gear. This would suggest that they were accountbound, and only soulbound on equip. Which makes this Settler gear extra rubbish.

Karma weapons and armor are “Soulbound on Acquire,” including the temple armor in Orr. The warning you’re likely remembering is “Are you sure you want to purchase X?”

I’m aware of how broken armor works and how it doesn’t contribute to your stats. My back piece wasn’t broken.

As I said in the OP, the back piece was effectively fused to my character’s back. I couldn’t unequip it despite not being in combat. I was still wearing it and my AR was reduced by 10. My other stats appeared to be unaffected. This is a pretty significant problem with doing a level 40 fractal when fighting the Jade Maw. The only way I was able to fix this was by leaving the instance after we beat it.

Defeated + Revive Orb = Reduced agony resist

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Zedd.8239

I recently did a Fractals of the Mists run, got defeated (hey, it happens!), and thought I’d help take some pressure off my group by using a revive orb from the gem store. I revived as one would expect, we beat the fractal, and moved on to the Jade Maw.

Unfortunately for me (and my group), the agony resistance from my back item was no longer being counted toward my AR total. I was almost instantly downed from the Jade Maw’s agony attack. This immediately prompted people to question whether I actually had 45 AR, and with good reason.

Upon closer inspection, I noticed that my back item could not be unequipped (yes, I was out of combat) and my agony resistance had dropped from 45 to 35. I tried removing my other ascended gear and instead of my AR returning to normal when equipping it again, it was as if I wasn’t even wearing ascended gear. I tried removing all of my ascended gear and putting it back on again. This didn’t seem to have any effect on my total AR. This problem persisted until we defeated the Jade Maw and returned to Lion’s Arch.

This isn’t a huge deal if you’re doing lower level fractals but at 40+ (or even 30+), this is a pretty serious bug.

I don’t really think this is much of an issue. You’re able to farm everything except orichalcum and blooming passiflora at level 45. Everything you need for creating an ascended version of the Sclerite Karka Shell can be farmed at level 45 during this event. Your chances of getting passion flowers from regular passiflora aren’t the greatest but you can still harvest them. That’s pretty generous considering that you can’t even use the back item until you’re level 80.

It sucks if you aren’t level 80. I get that. But you’re able to go to an area you wouldn’t normally be able to survive in during this event and you can take part in almost everything it has to offer. That alone is pretty cool, IMO.

Zedd.8239

For me this is a fairly simple matter. If I’m paying REAL money on digital items, I better be able to get exactly what I want, or at least get some value for my money.

Black Lion Keys are potentially a rip off but you’re always guaranteed to get useful boosts and other gem store items from opening them. Sure, it’s RNG, but it isn’t extremely punishing. You actually seem to have a decent chance to get useful stuff.

These chests, however, are a joke. They really are. 1200 gems for 10 boxes or 150 gems for 1 box for a “rare chance” to get new items. I was foolish enough to give these a try, opened 10, and ended up with just crafting materials. And not even enough to do anything with them. If I had simply converted those 1200 gems directly to gold I would have been able to buy a LOT more of those exact same resources. Farming the crates isn’t really feasible either. I’ve farmed in Southsun Cove with ridiculous magic find and still haven’t been able to find even one of these things.

I think the gem store is a good idea. It’s a great way to keep the game subscription free while allowing people that want specific skins or services to get them. I’m even willing to spend some real money on specific services, skins, and minis if the prices are reasonable. But having to spend potentially hundreds of dollars in real money just for a chance to get something I want doesn’t sit well with me. It feels extremely dishonest on the part of ArenaNet and the more this is done the less likely I’ll be willing to spend real money (or even gold) on gem store stuff in the future.

It isn’t worth losing potential customers and existing customers for limited time money grabs that are essentially digital gambling. Allow us to buy skins or even a weapon ticket directly and I think people will be far less angry in the long run. I know I certainly will be.

Zedd.8239

There’s a Champion Risen Wraith that spawns during the Grenth pre-events as well. Last night a group of about 15 of us were trying to protect the cannon and a champ wraith spawned. We must have fought that thing for at least 20 minutes and we couldn’t even make a dent in its health. We just repeatedly wiped without even being able to get close to it. The range on its attack is absolutely insane (it seems to be longer than 1200) and the amount of damage it dishes out is equally crazy. Eventually we managed to draw it away from the cannon while others finished the event.

On top of that, we all ran into massive DR once we finally completed the event. Once we finished the defense event for the cannon, the champ didn’t go away. Its name turned yellow but whenever we tried to revive Jonez and the other NPCs, it became hostile again and start killing everyone in the area. Thankfully Jonez eventually was able to get away from the champ (once he stopped attacking it…) and the champ de-spawned. But then we all had to deal with diminishing returns since the game thought we were farming the same area for 30+ minutes.

Oh, then to put a nice end to the whole series of events, the defense of Jonez at the temple itself failed because a ridiculous champion risen spider appeared and one shot him, causing the event to fail without warning or a chance to actually do something about it.

I’m really glad you guys are looking into this. I love the new event scaling that makes things more interesting. But this level of difficulty isn’t fun. It’s just plain punishing.

Won’t do any good, they will just hire more artists and make town clothes for the gem store.

What do artists and the gem store have to do with server lag? Oh that’s right. Nothing whatsoever. This, along with many other comments in this thread, are incredibly out of touch with how software development actually works and the limitations that exist in reality.

Artists designing items for the gem store or other content for the game has no impact on network programming or engine programming. They’re different parts of the team. Like with culling, this isn’t a simple issue that merely requires people throwing money at it. It requires a lot of time and resources to fix. The network programming for this game is incredibly complex.

Is it too much like real life for some people? Having to actually work to get something…

It’s a game. It shouldn’t be exactly like real life. As has been stated many times already, the issue isn’t that it takes a while to get something. This just forces people to grind for badges if they want to use them for a PvE reward. This change punishes people that dislike WvW but are required to play in it if they want to obtain a PvE reward. I’m not sure why this is such a difficult concept.

I hope it will help larger servers with WvW queue issues. Now people won’t be eating up player count just to get free loot in the JP with all their alts.

You seem to misunderstand the concept behind jumping puzzles. So let me explain it. The concept behind the jumping puzzles is simple. You get to the top and you open a chest. The chest is your reward for completing the puzzle. The loot isn’t “free.” You have to get to the top of the puzzle to obtain it. It may not be the most difficult thing in the world but it’s the reward for getting to the top. Other than the badges and possibly the blueprints (if you’re into WvW), the “free loot” is horrendous. It isn’t like people were getting super rich on the 2 blues and possibly a green they were getting from the chest. People do the puzzles for badges of honor and blueprints. The puzzles are a PvE concept that have been thrown into a PvP environment.

And yet again people with alts are being punished. Instead of removing the ability to port people all the way up. They decided to nerf drops.

Why didn’t they just remove the jp all together as it serves no point now. Thank you whiners you succeeded again.

Well, I wouldn’t go THAT far. The jumping puzzles still serve a purpose. You can still obtain far more badges from doing those every day than you can from simply fighting in large battles. It took me over 2 hours last night to obtain 13 badges from fighting. I ended up with 24 just from doing 3 of the 4 jumping puzzles. Clearly the puzzles are still highly profitable as far as badges are concerned.

I do agree that it sort of feels like people with alts are being punished when it comes to chests. I’m not sure this is necessarily ArenaNet’s intent, however. But this has been the case since they changed the way you can loot world boss chests to once per day per account. This change is simply more consistent with that change. It doesn’t mean I like it of course.

It’s all about the gems people, they want you to buy gems, leave this stupid game while you can. ESO, ESO…

Pass. I love Guild Wars 2. Good luck with ESO, though.

They probably made this change because mesmers were making too much bank from porting people to the end.

Those must have been some lucky mesmers. I’ve ported people up to the top of the EB puzzle for hours and managed to make a whopping 20 silver from tips (exactly 2 people out of at least 30 sent me something). People weren’t even giving me siege blueprints. I can make a lot more money in 15 minutes in PvE than I can from porting people. I suppose I could just have really bad luck with tips. You’d think people would want to tip the super cute mesmer. But I guess not!

Hopefully this change was made due to that rumorous map north of the WvW map thats been floating around reddit.

What rumor is that? I can’t stand reddit and have no idea what this is referring to…

Is ESO subscription based?

I don’t think it’s known yet. My guess is that yes it will definitely be subscription based. I’ll be very surprised if it uses a F2P model.

Here’s a thought, don’t do the JP you are wasting server space, you want siege and badges? go out on the battlefield and kill an invader; Flip Camps, do something useful.

my guild would collect siege for commanders, and it helped a lot, but come on go kill something useful

Have you even read the complaints in this thread? It doesn’t sound like it based on your condescending, elitist response. I personally do the jumping puzzles because it’s the only reliable way to obtain badges for a Gift of Battle, which is required to create a legendary weapon. Do you know how many hours of playing WvW it would take to obtain 500 badges from getting kills? I certainly don’t. But based on how slowly I earn badges even when fighting in large battles, I suspect it would be a rather high number.

Regardless of that, creating a legendary weapon is a PvE goal, not a WvW goal. Most of the people doing the jumping puzzles are likely doing them because they want a legendary weapon. Even if you hate WvW, you still need to map all of the borderlands and obtain 500 badges of honor to create something for PvE. The jumping puzzles are a great alternative for people that intensely dislike WvW. Now they’ve been nerfed and those that don’t like WvW will have an even harder time than before obtaining 500 badges. There is simply no other way to get a legendary weapon. The Gift of Battle is required, and going into WvW is necessary for that. This is fine if you like WvW and PvP in general. It’s absolute torture if you hate it.

The issue with the gate still being closed is something I’ve encountered before, and well before the fix to the end boss. It seems to happen when the seals aren’t actually broken. Visually they’re destroyed but for some reason they still have a small amount of health left. This issue is rare but it still occasionally happens. The only workaround I’ve found is to restart the entire fractal run. This really sucks if you’re on the third fractal and you can’t get to the last boss because of a gate not opening correctly.

Getting a Legendary has never been about easy. Or what I would consider a PvE only objective. It doesn’t increase stats in any way, it’s just pretty. It encompasses both PvE and PvP to create. If I have to PvE for mine, you (figurative you, not pointing at any individual here) should have to actually PvP, or in this case WvW, for yours. If this cuts down on the amount of whinging in map chat regarding camping of JP’s I’m all for it. If it cuts down on the amount of people clogging up queue’s for JP’s only I’m DEFINITELY all for it. T2, every spot is precious, the less in JP’s the more for people working toward the objectives. Again, I learn the basics of PvE for mine and work just as hard to be a valued member, you should learn the basics of WvW for yours and be a valued member of your server as well. Running with a zerg doesn’t require any time consuming knowledge. Play your profession as you play it. Find AoE’s you’re comfortable with to drop to increase the amount of players hit by you. This will ensure several bags as long as your zerg isn’t wiped. Learn to spam F to pick up bags as you go.

I don’t know why this argument is always made whenever someone criticizes part of the legendary creation process. I don’t want creating a legendary to be easy and don’t want the gifts needed to just be handed to me. It actually isn’t that difficult to create a legendary as it currently stands. It’s just really time consuming. That’s fine. I’m ok with that. I just want a reliable way to make progress and not have the bulk of it be RNG. There’s already a tremendous amount of RNG in the creation of a legendary (precursor drops, mystic clovers, etc.). Making badges of honor more difficult to obtain may or may not be good for WvW. I don’t know. What I do know is it isn’t good for PvE.

The jumping puzzles may not be incredibly difficult for those that are experienced with them. I find them fairly easy now as long as enemy servers aren’t camping them. But it still takes a while to get the 500 badges needed for the Gift of Battle. For someone that already hates PvP, this nerf to the chests just punishes them even more. They already need to map all of the borderlands for PvE map completion (huh?), which may be impossible depending on how good their server is. On Ehmry Bay, we’ve been fighting Anvril Rock and Borlis Pass for months now. We usually end up winning and we often control a good chunk of the borderlands. However, we’re almost always green, which makes it impossible to map certain locations unless we just happen to be controlling everything (not likely), and there are certain locations we just never end up controlling.

Forcing people out into the larger battles that they already dislike won’t improve anything for anyone. Now, I love WvW. I don’t play it as often as I probably should. But I know many people that despise it and were only playing it to do the jumping puzzles to get the badges. This change will drastically impact their enjoyment of the game.

As for your kill per badge ratio Zedd, I can’t say much. You may just have terrible luck. I usually walk out with 50 or more per two-three hours spent pushing objective(s). Far less if I’m defending, but that’s defense, not much unless an enemy zerg is hitting you. I rake in a ton of bags on AC’s defending against zergs, and that was prior to the AC change, not even sure how many more that will bring in now.

Believe me, I’ve been questioning the terrible drop rate of badges for me for a while now. I always pick up whatever drops for me (I spam the F key). I usually just get junk or white or blue weapons/armor. I occasionally get loot bags that almost never contain badges. If I’m lucky I might get 2 badges in a large battle.

It should be a time consuming task to make a legendary. Making a series of well timed jumps doesn’t scream hard work or PvP.

I agree that creating a legendary should be time consuming. It took me about 4 or 5 months to create The Bifrost for my guardian. It was a great feeling when I finally completed it. But as I said above, my issue is that it’s more of a PvE goal and forcing people to play in PvP seems to conflict with that concept. Jumping puzzles are a PvE thing. It’s why people that prefer PvE do them to obtain badges. It’s a type of play they enjoy (or at least enjoy more than PvP). Playing in PvP for a PvE goal shouldn’t really be happening in the first place. The jumping puzzles provide a compromise, and now they’ve been nerfed.

I know it sounds like I’m complaining because something has been made more difficult to obtain. I’m just concerned that this change will impact a lot of PvE players in a negative manner. I don’t understand the reasoning behind this particular change and it feels like it was done to try to force people to grind for badges. That may have nothing to do with it. But it’s what’s going to have to happen.

^ Well-said! Completely agreed.

I’ve had my moments when I felt the same way. When people have no concern other than getting JP portals while the keep that enables their access to that JP is under attack and about to be lost. It’s annoying when someone expects us to drop what we are doing just to babysit them to the top of a puzzle so they can get free badges. I do think the puzzle would be better off if it was a separate map, but still had the same access points in the EB keeps. That would give both sides of the debate nothing to complain about.

Putting the puzzles on their own maps and having them still be connected to the keeps would potentially fix issues like that (I really like that idea)…but only if they’re neutral areas where servers can’t attack each other (or communicate with each other). It would mostly stop griefing (people would still find a way to be annoying, I’m sure) and force those that want to fight other players out into the actual fighting.

Whether that would improve the WvW experience for those that are serious about it, I have no idea. It may not do anything to fix that aspect of it. But it would certainly make things a little easier on those that hate PvP and just want a cool looking weapon.

Personally, I actually love PvP and especially WvW. However, even I find the PvE/PvP connection for creating legendaries more annoying than fun. It’s bad enough you have to map all of the borderlands just to get a Gift of Exploration. If someone hates PvP or if their server isn’t doing so well that process is painful enough as it is without having to worry about getting even fewer badges per day…

Nothing really changed with the blueprints. You always could, and still can, drop them on the ground for someone to pick up. And then you could have them do the same for another of your characters if you were trying to move your siege from alts. Now you have the convenience of being able to toss that siege in the back, but without the JP chest siege our alts are probably going to have a less less (or no) siege to need this convenience.

This limit would make sense if the change was making blueprints mailable to easily give them to others, but as is, this update manages to add a new convenience and make said convenience nearly pointless all at the same time.

Making siege blueprints more rare doesn’t do anything to help the game. All it does is increase the financial burden on commanders, especially those of us that spend the majority of our playtime in wvw. If the intent is to degrade wvw into massive zergs roaming tower to tower DPS’ing down unupgraded doors, this will probably help move things in that direction. Last month’s WXP/wvw ranks already encouraged the zergs to leave towers unupgraded and undefended so they can just retake for quick points. Taking over a tower doesn’t give enough reward to upgrade it, or even buy a single piece of siege for it, so what reason do we have to bother with those things? As long as your zerg is big enough to flip them faster than the other server’s zerg, you still win, get more money, and earn wvw ranks faster.

I thought I had read a few times that the massive zerging was supposed to be getting discouraged, but the actual changes being made do nothing but encourage it.

What I was trying to get at is that this limitation on a fairly reliable way to get badges of honor is a problem for those that simply want the badges for PvE-related reasons (i.e., a legendary weapon). I love WvW but it isn’t my main focus in the game. I don’t usually play it for more than a few hours per week. I do tend to play it more if creating a legendary weapon, though.

Getting badges from killing other players is, well, a joke. They almost never drop regardless of how many kills I get, the size of the group I’m in, or the speed that I kill. I don’t know if this is just plain bad luck or if it’s by design. Regardless, I’ve had to resort to using the jumping puzzles for badges because they’re the only reliable way to get them.

Forcing people to play in WvW to get a legendary weapon, which seems to be more of a PvE goal, is questionable enough as it is. Limiting the number of times the WvW chests can be looted to once per day per account makes this process of obtaining the necessary badges even more frustrating and time consuming than it already was.

So now we need to grind the frak out of WvW to get the 500 badges for a Gift of Battle. Wonderful. I usually get about 2-3 badges in massive fights. The drop rate is abysmal outside of the jumping puzzles. I can’t say I appreciate this change at all.

What is the rationale behind this change, if you don’t mind me asking? I can understand wanting to limit siege blueprints since they’re account bound now. But limiting badges even more than they already are? I’m sorry but that just doesn’t sit well with me.

I don’t know if they’ve stated it anywhere. You simply can’t put those items in the Mystic Forge at the moment. That means there aren’t any recipes in the game that use them.

If you have an infused back piece, 2 infused rings, 2 ascended accessories, and 1 ascended amulet, each with a versatile simple infusion in them, the maximum agony resistance you can currently have is 45. If you could infuse the amulets and accessories, the maximum would be 60. No one has 60 AR at this point.

It isn’t a bug. The items exist in the game’s data file but ArenaNet simply has not added the recipes to make those items yet.

A few days ago Rakkan simply refused to move from the R&D camp during the event to test Merla’s undead camouflage potion. The risen never arrived at the start of the event. I suspect this is why Rakkan didn’t move. The event chain reset when the tar elementals spawned about 10 minutes later (they killed Rakkan) but this is still problematic.

Additionally, the Warmaster Chan escort event from Meddler’s Summit to Shank Anchorage keeps stalling on occasion as well. They simply stop moving and additional risen never spawn. Even the nearby temple statue, which is clearly active in the attached screenshot, stopped working.

As per my first and second posts, this is all on Ehmry Bay. But it’s clearly impacting other servers as well.

I don’t think this is a bug with any particular event chain. The events themselves seem fine. It seems to be more of a general event bug. I say this because it impacts many different event chains. The NPCs get stuck in the exact same manner each time (i.e., not moving and invulnerable). Progression is blocked until the server is reset.

Because when ANet find it, they check to see who’s been milking it and ban them?

This event bug exist for months already. It’s not a exploit imo, because the returns are only so-so and it is sooooo boring to grind the same thing over n over. The monsters so die in secs which makes you have to chase quickly.

It’s a bug. Milking the bug to death for your personal gain is the very definition of an exploit.

Will Guardians get a viable ranged attack?

The bad thing about smite is that it’s short and, like most AoE skills, the enemy can just walk right out of it.

Assuming that you don’t take any steps to ensure that the enemy stays in the radius for as long as possible, then yes it’s bad. But that isn’t exactly what I’d call a smart use of Smite. It works great with AoE chill skills (like the ones elementalists have) and there are other AoE snare skills that it works well with too. It doesn’t mean it isn’t viable or that it’s worthless. It just means you need to be smart about how and when you use it. At the very least you can use Chains of Light on your target first and immediately hit them with Smite. It isn’t perfect since it isn’t snaring more than one target. But it can still do massive damage if you use it right.

I’m actually perfectly fine with the current ranged options for my guardian. The range is outstanding for 2 out of the 3 scepter skills. Both Orb of Wrath and Smite have a range of 1200. Only Chains of Light has a shorter range of 900. My only real issue is the slowness of Orb of Wrath. Other than that, I think the scepter does a decent amount of ranged damage. It certainly isn’t going to win any awards for having high, sustained DPS. However, I don’t use it because I want to do massive damage. I use it more for Smite and Chains of Light.

I get that people feel neglected because the guardian can’t do massive amounts of damage at a distance (Smite is crazy good if you have a high crit chance and can snare your target). But I think the limited ranged options says a lot about their design goals for the class.

The whole class is built around the concept of always being in the thick of battle, while buffing and supporting those around them. There are many ways to accomplish this task of course. I think giving the guardian a stronger ranged weapon would make the class way too powerful. It’s already extremely powerful.

Having said that, it would be nice if the scepter had a symbol skill associated with it. Maybe turn Smite into a symbol that has a chance to cripple your target(s) while also providing a boon for allies?

World Boss Bonus Chests Not Always Appearing

I wrote it in another thread concerning that matter: as far as I remember, in the patch from 26. March they moved the guaranteed rare to the ‘additional chest’, which you can receive once a day per account. The also said, however, that to receive rares from the mega bosses, the character needs to be at least level 40, so in my opinion this works exactly as intended…

I only use level 80 characters in world boss events. And yet the bonus chest occasionally doesn’t appear for me despite not having done the event at all for over 24 hours.

So, no, this isn’t always working exactly as intended. It’s very rare that the bonus chest doesn’t appear but it isn’t because I’m not a high enough level or have already done the event that day.

Stalled events/NPCs standing around

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Zedd.8239

I’ve been noticing a rather severe problem with numerous events throughout the game world. Occasionally, escort events or any events that require NPCs to move from one location to another will completely stall out. The NPCs will suddenly stop moving and cannot be killed by enemies. These NPCs stay stuck in place until a new build of the game is released or the server gets reset.

While this isn’t a tremendous issue if it’s a single event that doesn’t have much impact on things, it’s a huge deal when the event is part of a large event chain. This “stalled NPC” issue is most noticeable in Orr due to the large number of escort events. If one of the events in the chain gets stalled in this manner, it often closes off access to karma merchants or in the case of Arah, a dungeon.

The three biggest events I’ve noticed this issue with are: Plinx, escort Warmaster Chan to Shank Anchorage, and the Rakkan events (all in Cursed Shore but there are other examples in other areas in Orr and other parts of the game). Rakkan was stuck on Ehmry Bay for about 2 weeks the last time this happened. The event chain finished, he started walking back to Merla and he just…stopped. Plinx is currently stuck in the same manner as well (or he was when I checked a few hours ago).

I’m not sure if people are doing something specific to cause these events to end up in this state or if it’s just completely random. I’ve never witnessed them getting stuck. I usually just find them in this state and am unable to do them until there’s a new build or a server reset. Sometimes this stalling occurs in the middle of an escort. Other times it seems to happen between events in the chain (e.g., the attached screenshot of Plinx standing around being beaten).

I love this game and I love the events system. But please take a good hard look at events in general and fix this critical issue. It’s really starting to get ridiculous how many events are stalling like this. If you need more information, I’m more than willing to provide it. Thanks!

Attachment: This risen would have beaten on Plinx indefinitely if I hadn’t killed it. Thankfully for Plinx he was invulnerable. But I felt a bit sorry for the little guy…
