Having ascended gear will definitely improve some of the numbers but it isn’t necessary to hit high DPS. Is it necessary to hit the highest DPS? Yes, because it has the highest stats.

But I wouldn’t discount a player simply because they don’t have all ascended gear. We have no idea when the OP started playing the game or when they started working on ascended gear for this character. And whatever the case, exotic gear is more than adequate to be effective in this game as it currently stands.

The problem is not all elites have the same function. They can’t really be directly compared to each other. Many are situational. They’re “elite” because they provide some powerful functionality that other skills don’t provide. Or they’re more powerful versions of existing skills.

Having to manually use skills after using a tome makes the skill more powerful in some ways since the player gets to choose when to use the abilities. It gives the player choices. In the hands of someone skilled and experienced, that’s a very good thing. It’s up to the player to make the elite powerful by how they use it.

Something like Renewed Focus seems rather mundane at first glance but it greatly depends on the traits you’ve chosen. If you choose the right traits, it’s extremely good.

Wow. Guardian elites are useless? I think you need to look closer at them or re-examine the class.

The tomes are incredibly powerful if used properly. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve saved my group or those around me with a well timed Light of Deliverance cast. Or dazing nearby foes with Pacifism. Or using Purifying Ribbon or Protective Spirit to remove conditions or apply protection/regeneration in a cone. That doesn’t even include the Heal Area skill that can be spammed incredibly quickly. Not only does it provide those very powerful abilities that are found nowhere else in the game, but it also grants you protection (-33% incoming damage) and increases your toughness/vitality by 50%. And that’s just looking at Tome of Courage.

Tome of Wrath is also very powerful and is definitely the “missing” offensive elite. Give it a try.

Renewed Focus is extremely good if you invest in virtues as Wolfheart mentioned.

I’m really baffled by many of the comments in this thread about the uselessness of guardian elites. I’m not going to say “learn to play” but I am going to suggest taking a closer look at the kinds of roles guardians can fulfill and then re-examine their elites. The elites definitely fit the class and have tons of uses.

I’d love a skill like the banner on my Guardian. The only Elite that I find remotely useful is Renewed Focus. And even then, it’s mediocre at best(imo). The big reason i’ll never use the tomes is because like most other elites, these require use by the player. Other elites(standard, supply, time warp ect.) require no action on the player besides the initiation. This is the main reason why those will be superior to the tomes.

This is one of the most ridiculous reasons not to use a skill I’ve ever read. You can’t click to use support or offensive skills? So if you pick up an elementalist’s Fiery Greatsword, you’ll just spam the first skill because you have to manually use the other skills?

You have to manually use all of your skills in this game except your auto-attack. The whole point of playing a game is to have the player interact with the game world.

My group had a similar issue last night. We had barely hit the first mate at all, defeated Mai, both of them died (Mai died right next to Horrik), and Mai reset at full health. Horrik didn’t reset along with her and she was invulnerable. The only way to fix this was to all die to reset the fight.

Whatever the case, Symbol of Faith (mace), Symbol of Swiftness (staff), and Symbol of Protection (hammer) can definitely be used while you’re moving.

Symbol of Faith is slow, yes, but since you can use it while moving, use the skill before you get to the location you want to put it down. It takes some practice to get the timing right. It’s very doable, though. The cast time is actually exactly the same as Symbol of Protection.

Symbol of Swiftness is easily usable while moving. You barely have to time anything. Just cast it and it’s down.

The only symbol that can’t be used while moving is Symbol of Wrath (greatsword).

I did, yes. I was amused.

Personally, I love this new dungeon and the mechanics of the boss fights. It actually requires some coordination, awareness of what’s going on around you, and it provides some challenge. It certainly isn’t impossible to beat. It may not be something you beat on your first try but it’s doable. And once you figure out the fight mechanics, it should go a lot better. It definitely isn’t as impossibly hard as some in this thread (and others) have been making it out to be. It does, however, require some teamwork.

It’s just that blasted pull on those golems. That’s what makes it too frustrating.

There’s a good way to counter that: stability. Skills that can revive from a distance are also extremely useful here.

This is just the first dungeon in the game that actually requires you to pay attension to mechanics instead of just spamming to victory.

Yes you can stun and stop Mia, it is called remove the stacks of defiant.
Yes you can keep the golems from killing you, it is called don’t drag them through the laser wall
Yes you can avoid the fast laser by using the crates
Yes you can avoid the cannon fire by using movement and positioning and not just blindly dodging.

once you learn the mechanics of the game you will do much better. The real problem is that after 10 months some people still don’t know how to properly position themselves or remove defiant stacks.

He means their uptime duration, not their cooldown after being destroyed/commanded.

And if you meant that, then I should point you towards the necromancers whose minions don’t have this and are pretty much what OP is talking about.

If that’s what was meant, then I clearly misunderstood because it was so poorly conveyed. Cool down is definitely the wrong term. Uptime is a completely different ordeal and my thoughts are that are far more mixed. The amount of time spirit weapons are up is certainly questionable now that they have lower health. On the other hand, since they do have such low health, it’s pretty rare that my weapons are up for the entire duration to begin with.

I agree, I don’t see the purpose in making them temporary now since they aren’t invulnerable anymore. I only run a spirit weapon underwater because my underwater build sucks, the skills I want to use aren’t available, and I don’t know what else to put there.

I tend to use Signet of Judgment (for the damage reduction), Retreat!, and Save Yourselves! But I use a lot of shouts in my build.

Yeah, it’s probably in an invisible bag. Invisible bags are great if you fill them up (e.g., I fill mine with food, weapon/armor sets, minis, boosters, etc.) but they can be a serious pain if you have a few empty slots in them. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve “lost” items in my invisible bags only to realize where they ended up after a more careful look at my inventory.

It’d be nice to have a toggle that prevents looted items from ending up in invisible bags. Not sure if that’s feasible but it would go a long way toward helping solve this kind of problem (assuming this is the case in the OP).

Other than the change to scepters, I don’t think these changes really impact my support build that much (if at all). The change to Mace of Justice is certainly quite nice, though. Overall, a pretty underwhelming list of changes.

I never stated AH was useless in a group, all I said was that it really revolves around one weapon. I even explained above why this was the case. Symbols are one of the Guardians main sources of boons yet it involves remaining in a small spot, counterintuitive to the games design. Unless you’re pveing, the benefit from any symbol is severely lacking.

This couldn’t be more wrong. AH works brilliantly with multiple weapons: staves, maces, hammers, and to a lesser extent, greatswords. On top of that, you can increase the size of your symbols by a fairly significant amount if you choose the right traits. Symbol placement is critical to them being useful in WvW and sPvP. They add an extra small heal to the other small heals that AH already provides.

Spirit weapons should absolutely have a cool down. They’d become extremely unbalanced if they didn’t have that. Every other class (and skill type) has to deal with cool downs. Why should we get special treatment and not have to worry about them? Part of using spirit weapons effectively is taking the cool down into account.

As cool as it would be to be able to fire light arrows from a bow, bows really don’t make any sense for guardians. It’s difficult to explain why I feel that way but bows just don’t seem to fit.

The way I see it, if you want to play a heavily armored class and use a bow, warriors provide that option.

Sadly I can’t agree with you on the 1h sword because I just find it totally useless along with the mace. I know some people love the mace but the only use I can find is if you’re in a dungeon with another guardian and they are using the hammer then the mace is amazing.

I use a mace/shield all the time on my guardian and it definitely isn’t useless. You just need to learn how to play with it. It works incredibly well with some builds. The survivability a mace can provide is quite impressive. I can understand if a mace doesn’t fit your play style or your build. But useless? Um, no. Far from it.

It definitely doesn’t require a hammer guardian to be effective. Having a second guardian around is always a plus regardless of the weapons you’re using. But maces don’t require another guardian to be good.

Weapon swap stuck

This has been occurring for months, I didn’t know ANet was unaware of it. A quick fix until it’s sorted out is to manually switch the weapons with the swap button in the Hero panel.

Yeah, that fix is usually pretty reliable. Most of the time there’s plenty of time to open up the hero panel and switch. I’ve gotten so I intentionally look for the disabled weapon swap button and immediately go to the hero panel if I notice a problem. Not seeing this until you’re in the middle of combat can be highly annoying.

Cursed Shore in particular has a lot of events that simply get stuck and don’t progress until a server reset or game update. Warmaster Chan in particular usually just hangs out with his fellow Pact members…doing nothing at all.

Fractal Bug: Invulnerability on Harpy Hunters

Just another issue to add with the harpy hunters, if you manage to successfully evade all the attacks from rapid fire (I think this is what the spell is called) while in combat with them they go invulnerable as well. Although it sounds difficult to do it is actually very easy to replicate (especially as ranger since you are aware of projectile mechanics since you’ve always seen them), but the biggest peeve I have with this is that you get punished for skillful play. Every time I run this fractal I have to make a mental note to not dodge the rapid fire spell completely, or else I’ll stand there like an idiot waiting for it to reset and hit me back.

I think I’ve figured out how the bug is triggered, but am not sure how to fix it. I believe invulnerability is triggered when you character and a monster are both in combat and if the monster can not damage you in X amount of time they become invulnerable. The problem with harpies is that the rapid fire spell is too telegraphed by sound, so it is possible to dodge the entire spell by simply by listening to the sound and moving your character left and right (you don’t even need to look at the harpy or even use dodge). The duration of rapid fire is also very close the X amount of time as well, so if the entire spell misses they can go invulnerable easily.

Ok, that’s interesting. I’ll have to try that the next time I’m in that fractal and see if I can trigger it by my actions. As a guardian, I try to get into melee range as quickly as I can so I can draw aggro but the harpies use that rapid fire attack at close range too. So I think I’ll be able to replicate it.

And yes, this does indeed happen in other fractals/situations in the game. But it seems to happen the most frequently in this fractal due to how it’s designed. So there appears to be a bug that impacts creature behavior throughout the game. It’s just more noticeable in certain situation and actually becomes a problem.

This frequently happens while playing as my guardian. I’ll often attack a harpy from a different platform (usually the one right next to the one they’re on) to get them to attack me (helps to draw aggro before putting up a Wall of Reflection) and when I jump up onto the same platform as the harpies, they’re usually invulnerable. This is extremely irritating because they can’t be impacted by crowd control skills yet they can continue to hit me and the rest of my party.

There have been plenty of cases where I haven’t even attacked them from a distance, move into melee range, and they’re immediately invulnerable. I’ve had them stay this way for well over 10 seconds, all while being pummeling by arrows and their knock down attacks.

I understand that this is probably to prevent people from using really cheap tactics against them. And I’m ok with that. I hate AI exploits and cheap tactics. But the fix for this is breaking actual legitimate strategies and makes this fractal pure hell. You should be able to attack an enemy on the next platform from you without having them become invulnerable. At the very least, they shouldn’t be able to attack the party when this happens. It kind of feels like the harpies are exploiting by taking advantage of their invulnerable state to kill the party…

Breaking news: Every drop in this game uses RNG. There’s a chance to get a precursor from a world boss chest. There’s a chance to get a tier 6 crafting material from risen. There’s a chance to get a rare drop when fighting any enemy in the game. Need I go on?

The monocle sounds more like the jet pack from the Molten Facility dungeon than the weapon claim tickets. It’s a drop from the dungeon, not an RNG box. I’m not sure what the big deal here is. The only issue I can see is it will require you to play the dungeon if you want the item. (I know. How dare we have to play the game to get something? What kind of backwards concept is this anyway? /sarcasm)

If it isn’t account bound on acquire, then you’ll be able to buy it on the TP if you don’t get lucky. In that scenario, people that can’t get it as a drop will be happy and those that don’t want it will be able to sell it. I’m having trouble seeing what the problem is in this case. What you’ve quoted isn’t the same thing as the dragon coffers. Like, at all.

These achievements are pretty reasonable. There are lots of options to choose from to max the meta achievement. You aren’t forced to gamble or do any sort of PvP. PvP doesn’t even count toward the meta achievement.

I’m not sure what rich coffers/chests or real money have to do with achievements. You don’t need either to complete them.

I just wanted to say how pleased I am with these wings. They’re by far my favorite back item in the game. And that’s saying a lot because I love the fully upgraded Fractal Capacitor. Completely worth the wait!

Effigies and achievement

There are indeed 30 effigies in total that can be burned on a single character. It’s possible to wait 30 minutes or so and go back and burn them again. Or you can guest on another server or use a different character to get the remaining 20.

I’ve attached screenshots confirming that this achievement counts. The current possible total is 9 achievements that count toward The Dragon Bash Experience achievement. Presumably, the story achievement that will be available tomorrow will bring the total to 10.

No point doing the effigy anyway. Its not counting towards the meta achievement, just like the Dragon Ball ones aren’t. Stop wasting your time.

Any proof of this? As far as I know the devs had said nothing about the Effigies not counting for the Meta-event.

Why does it have to be a conspiracy?

It’s how people are acting. “ArenaNet is intentionally screwing over their playerbase.” That’s a conspiracy. Why would any sane business want to do that to their customers?

How about they screwed the pooch again and it’s getting old.

That’s something else entirely, and I agree that it’s getting old. It’s frustrating as a customer. As a developer, I’m a little more forgiving given the tight time schedule they’re on to develop this stuff. Having said that, QA seems to be dropping the ball a lot this year.

There were only 2 things in the several MB hot fix yesterday and this was one of them. How did it get screwed up?

It’s possible it was included in the update notes as fixed and then removed at the last minute because it wasn’t actually fixed. Or we could go the conspiracy route and assume that ArenaNet did this to screw us over.

Maybe I’m not the norm but I’m not going to stop playing Guild Wars 2 or stop supporting ArenaNet because of a few bugs. If I stopped playing every game that has bugs, I’d never play another game again. I have yet to encounter a “no longer going to be a customer” level issue with this game. There are things I’m not happy about (e.g., the terrible RNG boxes) but so far they’re easy enough to avoid.

How are you still looking into it when you were notified of its existence hours and hours and hours ago? This is a simple fix that shouldve given all of us our wings, instead you chose to drag it out for whatever reason .What kind of game are you playing? I know your wings are lopsided, is your artist still trying to fix them?

Thanks for the update, Stephane! It’s greatly appreciated.

Most people play games for rewards especially in the MMO market so using that argument here is pretty pointless. Anet should know that’s always the case and plan accordingly, and realise that the majority of people will probably move to another game if let down enough and from the sound of it a lot of people have got to that point or getting close. I’m not really talking about me, I do get annoyed when someone says 1 thing and means another, but I’m in no way gonna quit. You just need to look around to see people are getting a bit fed up. Seeing as this is only a game I understand their reasoning for leaving if it’s not worth their time.

I get that. This isn’t my first MMO. My only point is to relax, play the game, and you’ll get the reward. Yes, it’s frustrating. I also want the wings. But acting like ArenaNet is part of some massive conspiracy to screw people out of their rewards is just silly. Clearly this issue is a bug or the update notes were published before the fix was included. It wouldn’t be the first time the update notes don’t match the update exactly. Stuff happens.

Check other level 1-15 and 15-25 areas. I’ve already found 12 effigies and I only just started searching 20 minutes ago. Also, try using different characters if you want to increase your total faster…

You don’t understand how i feel after spenting 2.5hr and not get anything for reward/show that i did the dragon arena achievements. i don’t even care if they want 14/14 achievement to get the wing, i would of finish all of them to get the wing.

I have patience else i won’t be play for 9 month on daily basic.

Maybe the main point of the events (and the game) is to have fun? I want the wings too but just play through the event as it’s released and you’ll get them. If you’re only playing the game for the rewards then it’s possible you may need to re-examine why you’re playing the game.

Unfortunately, I can confirm that the percentage for this achievement isn’t a bug. If you complete the new instance, it increases the count to 8 and it doesn’t unlock the wings. I still need 10 achievements.

Weird! They’re still trackable for me.

And I’m still 75% done and not 60% done.

I’m pretty sure it’s been possible to track those since the start of the event. They just aren’t possible to complete yet. I assume they’ll be available tomorrow when we can start lighting the effigies. But that’s just an assumption on my part.

Actually in the ANet “walk through” it suggested 8/10 would be released immediately. That means we expected it to count, and for those kind of in the “race” we felt it was necessary. So, we’re not really completely to blame. We did what we thought we should.

I’m not sure I understand these complaints. ArenaNet reduced the number of achievements needed from 10 to 8. If you completed 7 before this update, which are the only ones that were counting in the first place, you now only need 1 more achievement to get the wings instead of 3. What exactly is the problem here? You were “forced” to play Dragon Ball? I’m pretty sure that isn’t ArenaNet’s fault.

Just to let everyone know, still says you need 10 when you see it in the top right corner. I have 7 achievements and if we only need 8 now, it should not say 70%. May just be a display issue.

Stalled events/NPCs standing around

This is still happening. In this case, two events are overlapping, creating one big Pact party of…well, fail. None of these NPCs will move to advance either event. In the case of Warmaster Chan, this is blocking access to the Arah event chain, a karma vendor, a dungeon, and a waypoint.

Yeah, I have. It’s actually rather difficult for me to zoom in anymore than in the above screenshot on my asura (one of the pitfalls of being so short lol). I have to really fight with the camera to get a closer image. I’ll try to get one later.

That said, everything in the game seems like it has low resolution textures if you zoom in enough. I think it’s just an engine limitation.

Have you tried enabling supersampling (if your video card supports it)? I’m not sure how noticeable that will be for you but it makes a difference on my system.

That’s really weird. Like Mungrul, they’re some of the highest quality skins I’ve seen in the game as far as textures go.

Going by the screenshot you posted, it looks like the texture hasn’t finished loading yet for some reason. The texture quality of my staff seems to be much higher than that.

I agree that kicking people that are afk is the way to go. I’ve run into this issue over and over again. Dragon Ball is highly addictive and can be a ton of fun…if half your team doesn’t just sit idly by while the rest of the team tries to do all the work. Those situations aren’t remotely fun and people that just going afk should be kicked due to inactivity.

Tigg’s conversation does warn players that if they leave the area they forfeit their bet or any possible winnings. I’m sorry that you experienced a disconnect after playing a bet.

DCing isn’t “leaving the area”!

Any action taken by the game as a result of a DC which is the same as that taken as a result of an intentional action by a player is a BAD THING and shouldn’t be in the game, ESPECIALLY if it means players forfeit items or cash.

Actually, disconnecting is actually “leaving the area.” Your character isn’t present in the area when you log off. Having said that, I can see why that wouldn’t necessarily be clear since you’re in the same area when you log in again.

haha, sure! People logging in for a minute on a work day at 10am and find themselves stuck for 40 minutes and they have no right to kitten?

Or, you could just wait until you get home and get the achievement then. The fireworks show is occurring every 2 hours until Monday morning. If people are taking the day off from work or risking their jobs over an achievement in a game, then that’s just downright sad. There’s nothing ArenaNet can do about people making poor decisions.

Yes, obviously. Those are the only two explanations for why I’m logged on at the moment. A few other possibilities: I’m in a different time zone than you are, I happen to have the day off, I may be self-employed, I might be on my lunch break. I’m sure I could come up with several other possible explanations for why I’m logged in at this hour (not that it’s any of your business or concern).

You know that Anet is actually a business right? A place where people work to do things on top and properly, not just throwing out Quality control for the “it’s just a game” adage?

Yes. I’m aware of that. I’m just tired of people getting bent out of shape over things not always going 100% according to plan and immediately jumping to conclusions based on absolutely no information.

I ended up getting the achievement and the chest on Ehmry Bay. There wasn’t an actual fireworks show, however.
