A.E.D. and Confusion

ZeftheWicked.3076

If you gonna argue, try facts.

Just above you said yourself A.E.D. is 32s at best and later down below you say it’s 40s at best. Let’s put that to bed – 32s at best with speedy gadgets. It’s not a hard trait to get.

Turret is susceptible to condi overload. if you got poison on shielded by 2 more condies, your epic 10k becomes 6.7k not to mention wasted blast finishers. A.E.D.‘s lethal heal removes poison 100% before heal. So you’re getting 14k heal there despite being poisoned before. As a bonus burning, torment and bleeds also go off.

Also about all those smart players ignoring A.E.D – and just what they gonna do about their condies? Tell them to stop ticking damage on me cause A.E.D.?
Usually my A.E.D. does that for them, right before getting me whooping 13k+ hp.

Another pain of turret is the opportunities for interrupt. Yeah it’s near impossible to interrupt the turret itself. but once planted there’s the little matter of it’s overcharge and follow up blasts/leaps. I found myself being knocked out of the healing range of turret quite a few times by longbow rangers, despite triggering the instant overcharge.

And finally the A.E.D small heal can also be it’s redeeming feature. Pop a turret and they’ll do anything in their power to kill you fast. Pop A.E.D. and for 5 seconds your enemies are willing to give you mouth to mouth as long as you don’t hit 0 hp in that period. Those 5 seconds might be the perfect time for making your getaway, getting your block off cooldown, or just holding your capture point for 5 seconds more.

They differ but both are good. Tornado is epic for decapping a taken spot. That or baiting out a lot of dodges.

Rampage has much less decap potential but is much better suited for direct combat.

the “awesome” turret heal was like 7k – in matter of seconds that was gone, and that’s when i wasn’t knocked back to prevent the blast heal. A.E.D. gave me 13k hp. Also A.E.D. removes poison 100%, healing turret removes 2 condies but no warratees that poison will be one of them if you got more on.

In my pvp practice A.E.D. is a way better heal for me then the turret.

isn’t tool kit’s wrench auto pretty decent damage?

Are engineers a hard to use class?

in Engineer

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

Yes it’s hard. With all the kits and swapping it’s very easy to use the wrong skill. Also shield blocks both have follow up skill. One press too much and there goes your life saving block which could hold up for a sec or two more.

Also many skills are “set ups”. They got delays and instead of instant result you have to wait half a second or longer for the result to pop up. Prime examples being bomb kit or grenade kit used at distance. This forces you to predict situations and act before they happen. A far cry from warrior or rangers instant skills that are reactive by default.

Also with so many skills available there are many synergies that can be used in many situations. Problem is that knowing them is one thing. Learning to use them properly in the heat of battle is another.

So yeah, engi is definitely “hard to master” class.

My few cents:

A.E.D. – cast reduced to 1/2 s rather then instant. It needs that risk factor in it, as the reward is great.

Low health response system should stay as is or trigger at 40%. 75% is a huge nerf, as engies who got revived or did it themselves (such as mine), don’t come back up with 75%+ hp, only 25% or half at best, which means they would never see that trait trigger when they need it most.

Agreed with bomb kit speed up. If not possible, at least make smoke bomb trigger faster. This is very often a reaction skill, waiting 1s is too long when under fire.

10s water field on super elixir is overkill. Give 2-3s water field to it’s toolbelt skill instead.

My alternative suggestion for gadgeteer – boons are also triggered by gadget’s toolbelt skill. So now both the gadget and toolbelt skill grant the boon. Also retalliation on A.E.D. should be buffed to 5s.

Totally agreed on pistol changes. Reason i run pistol in pvp…is the shield. That says enough about how luckluster it is atm.

So leaving an unranked game, and sentencing my team in there for a loss is ok because it’s unraked (yes, someone did read the notes and knows full well stronghold is in unranked).

If you people fail to see what’s wrong with testing new content gated behind a RNG chance to hop on it and being presented with choice of either wasting your time on games you do not wish to participate in or giving 4 other ppl who wound up with you the middle finger and leaving the match, then we’re living in two different worlds.

New maps for Spvp

in PvP

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

i already have few plans in my head for new maps. One would be where there would be a long and a short path to the middle, but the short one would have force walls that an enemy can activate, locking you down for few seconds, if they manage to seize the controls spread across the map. obviously the map would be build in a way that seizing these points would carry bit of a risk, for example the forcewall control point is bit away form all capture points.

ZeftheWicked.3076

Long story short – when under serious pressure engineer is very hard class for me to control. One of the main issues are the kits. With on/off mechanic i find myself often being in my normal weapon set rather then kit, or vice versa. This leads to mistakes and these are fatal.

So i fail to understand what does the “~” button do again for engi? I would suggest kit buttons being only for turning a kit on. You press kit button it pops that kit. If it’s already on it does nothing.

While the “~” would be the button to pop our normal weapon, as we don’t have weapon swap mechanic. That way when i press i kit button, i get a kit and i’m 100% sure of what the result will be.

I’d like to touch on another side story regarding the matchmaking. That is the points you get based on your participation in the match.

As SobeSoul pointed out there is the very ungrateful, yet viable role of being the point harrasser when you do your best to get their attention and stall for time when fighting outnumbered so the rest of the team can use the advantage you made for them. Unless you have godly skills or enemies are that bad, it ends with a flag sticking out of your gut and 0 points from the player contribution system for your effort.

The same can be said about people who defend their points. My reward for successfully defending a point are points for killing the assaulter at best, or nothing at all if he escapes and i decide not to pursue as my goal is to safeguard the point, not run around map after one guy.

At the end of a match, guy who did the heaviest lifting (fighting outnumbered) or took the most boring, but sometimes very vital role (guarding a point) looks like a noob to his team that only made them drag their feet.

I find this very upsetting and unacceptable.

I would propose to buff it by giving ability to cap points when under vengeance. In spvp the story is short – you go into vengeance, enemy kites you 15 s, done.

At least now opponent will be forced into fighting you, unless he wants the point to get decapped right in front of his eyes.

Juggernaut stability discussion

in Engineer

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

As far as i know engi has 3 sources of stability:

1. elite skills other then crate
2. toss elixir B toolbelt skill (and i don’t see many engies sacrificing a precious utility slot for this)
3. rumble tool belt skill from thumper turret (whole 1 stack, lasting one second).

So yeah…something else, might indeed be good.

'13-'14 Decap Engi vs '14-'15 Turret Engi

in PvP

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

The AI of turrets does not do more damage then player himself unless player went full on defense and is using pistol with power amulet.

The point is that turrets act independantly, and rocket turret which is biggest damage disher is often planted away from engi. So while you can and often will successfuly mitigate engi’s own attacks, the turrets will land theirs, and thus the conviction that turrets do more damage then engi.

But as i play turret hybrid engi (not full tureteer) i can tell you it’s nothing funny when your turrets go on 50s cooldown when you die. Also mobility is an issue, because much of your support is stationary, so gotta think twice about moving away from your spot. Every stick has two ends.

Fractals, you're doing it wrong.

ZeftheWicked.3076

My issue is with lack of a 100% certain way to get a fractal skin. Cause that’s what i would deem worthy to put my time into that.

For over 2 years i did not approach pvp with a 6 foot pole, because i was certain i would get wrecked like no tommorow. Then i learned you can get 100% guaranteed ambrite fossils by doing a reward track and i dived in. Turns out i do far better then expected, and it went to the point where i’m sighing “Why can’t i turn the reward track off, i’m drowning in these kitten boxes”.

But the point is that a good reward system which ensures unique or rare rewards of player’s choosing for their effort without RNG bs is what gets people to come. Some will just do it for reward, but some might get hooked along the way like I did and lured out of their shell with it. Fractals failed to provide such a reward system so far, and i know how long and ugly a higher level fractal can get.

Fractals, pinnacle of dungeon experience in gw2, one that puts the biggest challenge in front of the pve player, who valiantly turns 180 degrees and promply walks away. Least I do, because there’s no real incentive to put myself through them.

Take a look at spvp and it’s reward tracks. Now back at fractals. Now back at spvp. Now back at fractals. Random, miliscule chance to get fractal skin is not reward track’s 100% guaranteed reward, be it dungeon gear, pvp glorious armor pieces or ambrite insects. You may not rock like spvp, but if you at least had decent reward system you’d pass as the poor cousin among gw2 end game activities. But you’re not and you don’t. Till you up your game in motivation department i’ll be staying way away from you, fractals of the mists.

Reason you’re getting owned is because your defenses are lacking. Relying on tanking it will get you killed. Add blocks, cc, weakness, and there we’re talking a warrior that can take the pain. In pvp warrior does require some thinking and putting together a build where one skill helps another.

And 1 sec immobilize is huge, as it will let you land that burst attack that normally everyone would avoid (immobilize prevents dodges).

Why I'm >not< hyped for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

They said there will be some major ai changes for mobs in HoT so that gives us a ray of hope to solve the zerk meta and stacking in dungeons problems. Because they mostly come from poor mob ai.

Trais already got partially fixed with Silverwastes – events happen at same time in many bases and no base is better then others when it comes to rewards. Point is that people gotta split up and many groups have to take on different tasks at same time.
Pretty much more of that coming in HoT.

I do however have to agree with world bosses doing the statue role instead of actively chasing down players and tearing kitten up all around them. I mentioned this before in a separate threat and will mention it here – dragons in this game seem narcoleptic. Where’s that rampaging beast chasing down it’s prey, where the only safe spot on the map during a fight is to get off the map?

"Last stand" is just bad........

in Warrior

Posted by: ZeftheWicked.3076

ZeftheWicked.3076

The point here is that it gets yout out of cc trouble automatically, and is a non utility slot consuming source of stability.

How many times do we use our stab to secure a stomp? I’d say quite often. now imagine a scenario where they downed person does not use his cc despite being able to. You just wasted a precious dolyak signet/balanced stance/rampage.

With this little trait on if he does not manage to cc you you don’t waste it’s cast. Also pretty darn useful when your main source of stability is on cooldown and in pvp smart people will have their eyes peeled for expiration of your stability so they can go cc wild on your kitten . Well…surprise!

I’m guessing 90s is due to abundance of stability for warrior. If it was any shorter us warriors could get some really sick stability uptime…well we do anyway.

And that’s why a-net’s marketing is a bust.

The proper way to do this is to start off big (that they did), but also leying out the concrete foundations for hype, such as size of the expansion. If you know it’s gonna be big and how big, then hype is on with slowly revealing just what’s inside that big black box of unknown we’re awaiting.

But here it was not clearly stated, in fact it’s actively avoided, leading many people to think that the x-pac won’t be half as big as expected, and devs straying away from the topic sure doesn’t help to put out the doubt.

Also i hate these “filler” bits we get recently.

No one is forcing you to drop information weekly, a-net.

I don’t want, nor care for recaps of any kind. You’d save both your and my time if instead of throwing these fillers at me, you just left a note under actual new HoT blog post saying “Next reveal – [date here]”.

Foot in grave is powerful, but it’s a power at hefty price. For maximum stab uptime ds needs to be flashed. So in short no ds for you other then flashing it for a sec, or using it to eat a quick burst then jump out of it. As long as you’re in ds you’re prolonging it’s cooldown and your stability downtime, unless it’s taken down to 0 by your enemy and not you leaving it.

And that scenario you want to avoid, because wihout 50% crit in ds trait to do any power damage you need to go zerker/assasin. No other way. So your own hp gets much more squishy, and your ds is rather not to be used when under heavy cc pressure.

ZeftheWicked.3076

Indeed my idea is focused on 1v1 duels in the mists. Or in capitol towns, but as mentioned – only in the arena. In fact the latter option would be better as we could have drumroll player spectators for the arena matches! just walk into the arena on your character, take a seat and enjoy the fights.

I belive fights would be random, same as spvp queque – matchmaking system would pair you up with your opponents, you two duel then once it’s finished, next pair is up.
That would be the default mode.

You could however issue a challange to specified player, and if he accepts you two would be quequed to duel eachother in the arena when pairs before you finished their matchups.

A team duel option which would be 5 matches of 1v1 could also be possible. I can already see some guilds using this option to prove their supremacy one to another.

And there would be far less issues with premades, as here it would always be 1v1, so communication would not be a huge advantage, just your own skill in there.
