The gameplay is slow. A spike build in gw1 could be done every 15-20 seconds. For a warrior to use quickness on 100 blades they have to let the skill recharge for 60 seconds
Thief burst is on a similar CD. Also, in gw1 you could easily die in 4 or less seconds. In gw2 it takes much longer to take hp down. In short. It is slower paced.
I felt the energy bar was a really good way to prevent skill spamming without requiring the 60 second CD I see on utilities. For example. A necro utility gives spectral form and protectiom but requires a 90 second CD. The energy bar seemed like the reason cool downs (CD) could be shorter resulting in faster paced gameplay that is more calculated

What we really could use is the build saving ability gw1 had where you could save your build and skills and load them later.
I noticed that only the buff quickness gives attack speed and would love to see an attack speed stat that can be stacked like critical chance. This would save the warriors current state and make the game seem fast paced. It would be made possible by putting attack speed in locations that require sacrificing power. For example, an ammy might grant attack speed without power or the players can ditch attack speed for a zerker ammy. I feel attack speed will make gameplay more flashy and more fun.
Even better lengthen the evade frame to the beginning of the skill.
I just wanted some feedback on those who think 1vs1 death match tourneys would be fun.
Thieves are fine. They don’t do the absolute best in tourneys and can be owned by any class in a duel. Every class can spam but it doesn’t deserve a nerf.
Yes cast bars would bring back the type of builds made as shutdowns in team matches. It will bring a new element to the game.

First off why did you bring the untraited torch? Torch is only used for two reasons, Cleansing Conflagration, Prismatic Understanding…. beyond that you are hurting yourself by having the longest CD phantasm in the game with terrible direct damage and bad confusion damage in PvP. You also used mantras… Mantras are terrible in PvP… even fay the one that is the biggest advocate of the mantra mes admits that they are still too clunky to be useful to a team….You were also trying to use untraited shatters to make a point…. Seriously Zelulose…. This is not proof of Mesmer needing toned down.. People have shown videos of eles/warriors/guardians/thieves/engis downing a heavy golem faster… This video proves nothing.

In some spvp matches the 4th bonus for the vampire rune does not work. An example of this is spirit watch. Plz fix XD

I use Mesmer. I am familiar with how the profession works. I stated that I am not interested in seeing bug fixes with Mesmer until they are brought down and rebalanced. Get over it.
You’re also obviously not very good at it if you believe it’s over-powered.
The game is not balanced for 1v1, if you stepped outside of your hole, you would realize that. You would also realize that P/D is considered, and really is an unviable build for tPvP.
It’s amusing because you just hurt your own argument by saying that. The game isn’t balanced around 1v1, which is where the Mesmer excels, so how exactly does your whining amount to anything of substance? The Ele, Ranger, Guardian, Engi, and Necro are all equally or even more useful in team fights than a shatter Mesmer, utility aside. Again, utility is just about all the Mesmer is in competitive PvP. Keep trying.
The problems with Phantasmal builds are virtually non-existent, as the only overpowered part about them is the Phantasmal Duelist, which upon being nerfed, would be perfectly fine. The Shatter Mesmer is brought into every strong tournament team for a reason. I dare you to find me a single class that can do as much for a team as a shatter Mesmer.
Mesmers are used in tournaments due to their utility, not their “super awesome over-powered shatter burst combo!!!” Again, keep trying.

As of right now I feel ranger, necromancer, Thief and ele, and engi are balanced just based on the variety their builds hold and the lack of cheep damage that is much too high to defend against withing a short time span. Thief stelath may be annoying but by far, they are not Op. The mesmer needs toning down with damage but otherwise are balanced and the warrior needs buffing. Gurdians are perfectly balanced in team fights only. Gw2 is almost balanced in my oppinion just not quite there.
^From the person that said the bleeds from phantasms are OP… Then played his “AMAZING Phantasm build” against a fairly well known mesmer and played just horribly to the point of we honestly though if he was trying or not… if he is using his level of play for justifying calling for anything being toned down i would hope the devs take that suggestion with a very large grain of salt.

Because you didn’t charge your mantras before you started the fight… you also had a fight with no stun breakers… Having high toughness is meaningless if you are gonna still just sit there and take it. My anti condition bunker guard still dodges attacks even with 3400 armor total.
Vs. Theifs I don’t have to charge them before a fight because their backstabs deal 3k-1k why should this mesmer do more than a GC thief with little room for defences.
Saying you don’t need to charge before any fight is just plain. Sad really… Even mesmers that put their builds around mantras completely charge them before beginning any fight… Kind of like how pyro had his mantra of distraction ready to rock… If you had your mantra of recovery readied you could have easily out healed that initial burst. But you decided to start a fight with no condition removal or heal ready… in which case you earned that loss.

At 0:46 you will see I lost 5k almost instantly right after summoning the idefender. Thieves can’t do this.

Well I guess this build is 100% fair then. Everyone seems to be bashing my gameplay. I won’t argue to defend it because that would be pointless. With all the mesmer support, regardless of there state, I can run my iduelist with security now. Thanks all for your undying honesty and kind support. XD Just needed a popular opinion a to whether mesmer sharper images needed a fix.

This is what I’m talking about. More people complain about mesmer than any-other class and the people who play masmers keep trying the horrible excuse that their class is no good in group fights.

he still had you chain stunned and you didn’t do anything about it. Also like I said whether or not you summoned the defender on one of the phantasms would have been meaningless because no matter what it STILL TANKS HALF YOUR DAMAGE! and you started the fight with none of you mantras prepped. Mantras aren’t very great to begin with but if you open a fight without them ready then you just as well have nothing in those utility skill slots.
Well I’ll say this, mesmers are equally viable in team fights but cannot be defeted 1 vs 1 you cannot be broken up over dying in a team fight cause u may have been killed in a 2 vs 1 situation. In a 1 vs 1 mesmer is absolutly overpowered and makes people feel down when They themself lose in a 1 vs 1 to a player with simply an op build. To sum it up: As a class, mesmers have good tpvp and spvp options for group fights and if they want to 1 vs 1 they are the best. I understand that Anet will not nerf their own original class. But at least fix other classes, in this case to give them a fighting chance.

1) Jon Sharp is the same bag of dog excrement that said we don’t need more control over pets.
2) Jon Sharp has OBVIOUSLY never ever played on a ranger at any level or in any pve/dungeon/wvw/pve game.
3) I’d be super happy with a pet damage nerf -IF- they give what was nerfed to the the ranger as a buff.
4) Please fix the AI/root attacking/pathing and before, as someone said, swinging the nerf bat at it. If they pet actually had really good AI, good pathing, and could hit moving targets, they MIGHT be worth having.
5) Please consider giving a perma-stow for pets option! If nothing else, make it an elite skill!
yes pets never hit good kiters and rangers become useless if the pet is chilled crippled and/or kited
Moa morph seems fine dude, it lasts 10 seconds, it counters just about every other elite in the game, and it completely destroys any build that relies on summons.
Leave moa as it is instead of fixing moa fix mm which gets CD on all their minions every time they are moad.
phantasms need their damage toned down, its silly how a mesmer can gear for bunker and yet the phantasms do so much damage, other than that the class is fine
Phantasms are a mesmers only source of DPS outside of shatters… Every Mesmer auto attack pretty much sucks when it comes down to direct damage. Outside of that the skills that summon clones don’t do much damage or they do no damage. The phantasm spec is only too strong because of Empowered illusions in Domination III. And this trait is a freaking dinosaur from when clones actually did some damage but were nerfed. If ANET were to remove this trait or rework it would be a step at dealing with the phantasm spec.
However the point of this thread is to highlight Mesmer bugs that are introduced EVERY patch and never noticed by the developers. It was made because for some reason they find catering to what people say in pvp more important than what people say on the class forums. Which is why this thread is here. Mesmer is in bad state. Not because we can’t hold our own but because every patch pushes us further and further into nothing but IOL and Portal machines.
If you duel around there are many more viable builds that seem completely original mesmers have the most variety when it comes to viable build options but unfortunately they take many unfixed bugs. They many need a fix but not before mesmers can be used bug-less.
You could be like Necro’s and have no place at all in tournaments, even with our most viable tournament build (also see: Warriors). Mesmers are in a great spot right now compared to other professions. They have the same problems every other profession has, except they are less severe and have a lot of other things that actually works for them.
I can tell a world of difference between my Necro and my Mesmer. Mesmers have near null reason to complain at the games current state.
Im sorry what game are you playing? A condi-mancer out does a condition damage of any other class in the game (except engi). Also if the team runs two necros then any AOE fight is now in that teams favor thanks to chainable AOE fears and wells… If the necros are running the minion mancer build they are almost harder to kill than a bunker guard especially for a Mesmer (WORST CONDI REMOVAL IN THE GAME!). Necros can be on a team with out that team having to build around them. If a Mesmer goes into a tournament with anything other than some form of a shatter build they are just hurting their team no matter what. I have played with and against some kitten good necros all running a variety of builds… Mesmer hkittenter and phantasm. Only one is good for a tournament.
In a SOTG some time ago Nero and Xeph were the co-hosts and at that time Jsharp said they want to UP build diversity for all classes… Every patch since that statement has one by one removed a build from Mesmer arsenal.
All my mesmers have plenty of condition removal.
I am going to say this as nice as possible, and I not trying to be mean here, so don’t take this personally, but anyone complaining about Flanking Strike/Larcenous Strike really need to learn how to dodge, cc, and/or create a gap between them and a thief.
If you do any of those 3 things (Dodge, CC, Create a Gap) you can negate this skill with ease. Even just 2 of these things can easily negate this skill. I know because I have done this as well as been the victim of it. I have played all classes in sPvP (long enough to get a handle of them), and I have 3 80s (Mesmer, Guard and a Thief).
Just a bit of advice:
- The skill is easily telegraphed by the obvious rolling animation, and the thieves that spam this usually use larcenous strike right away after flanking strike, so just dodge away near the end of their roll.
- The range on Larcenous strike is very small, so to actually land with it you have to be in the closest melee range, so you can try to stay just out of reach, or leap away
- And lastly, use CC on a thief – snare them, chill them, knock them down, knock them back, stun them, daze them. Most thieves run 1 stun breaker, so if you can chain cc them it really screws them over. (This goes for most thief builds). For the rare thief that runs 2 stun breakers, just spread out your cc and time your dodges.People really seem to underestimate the power of dodge in this game. Learn to dodge at proper times and you will counter a lot of powerful attacks from most classes in this game. Endurance management goes with this as well. Keep track of your endurance and you will make dodging work even better for you.
This is true. After dueling on games like vindictus I have gotten used to using a fast reaction time for the win. Sigil of energy or rune of the adventurer will give you more dodging options if you need them.
Spvp and PVE numbers are totally separted for balance purposes. You’re much weaker and linear in spvp

For the screenshots above, I actually had more might in the ones where I wakittenting in the 200s than in the 300s. In the bigger fights we had stacked might beforehand. As they expired the damage did go down (3 points per stack), but that doesn’t explain the 326 vs 241 and such.
Further complicating this is that all of my results from yesterday show hits in the 300s again. There’s a thread in the wvw forum that thinks the change was rolled back.
edit: one possibility is that the ones showing reduced damage had protection up and there never was a change in the first place. That would explain how we all arrived at that 33% reduction number.
In heart of the mists I am hitting 300s and only 200s In actual spvp matches.
I was wondering if Retaliation deals damage back to source when mesmers blurred frenzy or distortion.
I am also curious as to why my retaliation does 320 damage in heart of the mists and 200’s in an actual spvp match. Was there and undocumented fix?

Yes D/p Thiefs are still better with their frequent backstabs,stealths,regeneration, conditions stripping, and blinding field. I think initiative gain is more the issue than the skill 3 for s/d because high initiative gain leads to spamming.

They can nerf pet damage all they want. As long as My conditions stay It won’t matter.

Well all the rangers without conditions and clerics ammy deal low damage anyway even with pet so if damage is fixed we rangers wont have much of a choice. Just apply conditions faster then they are removed. I can.

What happens if i go for the shatter burst and have 6 clones out?
In my experience you can only have 3 and if a clone fails to reach a target when you summon another one it will vanish to be replaced by another clone.

There are ways to play phantasm/shatter in teams I guess most players just don’t know how. My character Angel is able to pop in for burst and pop out rather quickly like a thief would. Also, clergyman is a shinigami of death XD
Edit: This thread is not about how the Mesmer is in the absolute worst state. It is a thread about it being pushed down that path. I am not saying the Mesmer needs massive buffs…. I am saying the Mesmer needs to have things WORK AS INTENDED I have 6 classes Mesmer is the one I enjoy the most it is also the one that worries me the most because I see the changes happen patch after patch. And never get addressed. This last patch for instance never mentioned anything about the bouncing change and yet it happened. I don’t wanna see stupidly major buffs to make this class over the top I want the bugs to be fixed (We have a ton each new patch) and us to stop getting unnecessary nerfs.
I agree somethwhat. That is why i proposed to move rather than delete some mesmer triats. I see them getting nerfed in the future and would rather the nerf not be harsh on shatter of phantasm.

Call it by any other name… you were asking for a nerf… last thing any classes need anymore is a nerf… Some classes recently have been buffed too much like flanking strike…. all you see in tourneys anymore is a thief spamming 3,3,3,3, with their SD build what’s funny is ANET said in their class design philosophy that while mesmers have a harder time dealing with enemy conditions they want them to be really good and manipulating enemy boons… well there goes that intent.
So fine then we can leave all the classes as they are and put a lockdown on nerf and buffs…
