How solo friendly are mesmer/chrono vs necro?

Mesmer PvE damage is garbage, and your illusions in verdant brink will be cleaved down upon spawn.

Reaper damage is not reliant on high ramp up phantasm counts, paper thin AI, and it doesn’t go away like clones/phantasms do when the mob you’ve casted on dies (meaning that if you fight against a mob pack, your mesmer phantasms die if the mob you cast them on dies and you’re left fighting other mobs with kitten damage).

On the other hand, mesmer RECOVERY (a large part of sustain) is better than necromancer/reaper.

Reaper/Necromancer heals suck. Once you lose HP gaining it back under pressure is difficult as your heals don’t fill your HP pool at all and are on long cooldown, have longer cast times than mesmer heals, or don’t heal for much (like the shout heal).

Reaper is more glassy. Mesmer can get out of sticky situations easier than reaper due to AI distracting mobs while you heal up safely, using clones to bodyblock projectiles.

Reaper has way better damage and more damage spike absorption, but the chrono has better damage EVASION/AVOIDANCE but much, much less DPS.Chronomancer has more group utility than reaper.

Another important feature is that chronomancer has a 25% run speed trait built in. The reaper needs to pay a utility slot in signet of the locust to have 100% uptime run speed, as the warhorn swiftness is not 100% uptime and comes at the cost of not using the offhand focus.

No. No more interrupt traits, these are terrible for PvE.

You do realize mesmer interrupts are on longish cooldowns besides the offhand sword offhand and don’t work on mobs with defiance bars, right?

Well, if they were to take the complaints of people to heart they could nerf blighter’s boon so that they address the “reaper is too tanky in teamfights” criticism, and then nerf RS1’s attack speed to address the “reaper deals too much damage and has too much sustain from autoing in RS” criticism. I do not believe that those nerfs are necessary but – we will see how it goes.

Reaper Shroud is already weak and a DPS loss in PvE over camping greatsword, so if anything it needs buffs.

The only reason you people use reaper shroud in pvp is because landing skills without constantly being interrupted/bounced around by CC on a greatsword is an effort in futility.

In ideal situations for the skill, yes. However, to get the 13 second cooldown, you need to be fighting 5 enemies. In PvE this isn’t an issue. However, if you’re against 5 enemies in PvP, that higher healing per second won’t counteract what you’re taking in damage. The cooldown is highly conditional and the skill isn’t potent enough to help you live through a team fight. Yes, you get LF. But if you’re not running Blighter’s boon, that means your hp will be just as low as when you went into shroud, so again, it’s not an ideal skill right now

Just like I said, the skill is meant for exactly that situation where you encounter many enemies. And as long as this skills are allowed to hit objects in pvp (like in khylo), it shouldn’t be such a big deal to hit 5 targets.

The skill maybe isn’t ideal (don’t know it had to be), but it fits a team fight environment much better than the other healing skills, I guess.
It damages your foes -> triggers on hit effects
it heals more reliable for more foes struck
it gives you more access to your main defensive and offensive mechanic -> reapers shroud

It helps more to survive than the other skills.
The well needs you to stay in place for its full potential
the minion will die too fast in a team fight
the signet gives more support for your team, but less survival for yourself (what necromancers were asking for)
CC is competetive maybe, but it leaves you vuln.

So this new heal skill is still the best choice for team fights, don’t you think so?

Which means you design a skill to be obsolete in PvE raids, because bosses are SINGLE TARGET.

That’s crap design. Necromancers don’t need skills that are garbage single target and decent in a group. They need good healing skills in both situations, period.

In fact, it’s not even great for a group because in a group fight you’re not worrying about long term healing. At the current state of the game, you’re worried about spike damage from the mesmer/thief+ elementalist+engineer blowing your necromancer up and your 13 second 4k heal isn’t going to help in the slightest, especially since as a reaper you will be affected by poison on your heal as you don’t have consume conditions, reducing the 4k heal to an even more miserable amount.

It’s good for you that you think more life force is good, but reaper shroud in pve is a DPS loss so I’d rather my survivability not be tied to a form that gimps my DPS compared to using my greatsword.

If no roles are mandatory, your content isn’t actually challenging. Understand this, as it applies to all MMO’s :

DPS will be prioritized after the minimum amount of damage mitigation and recovery options required to complete an encounter successfully are met.

High end raiding guilds in trinity MMO’s do this, they bring less healers and stack more DPS, or ask their healers and tanks to put on DPS accessories since unlike healing or tanking, DPS is never redundant/extraneous. More DPS means you push phases quicker and the less windows for error you can fail in.

If any composition and mishmash of skills/weapons can go into a raid and beat the content, you won’t have a PvE scene taken seriously by a raiding community who has raided in other MMO’s.

Raids should require optimization and coordination in execution of mechanics with efficiency. Critical points of failure that need to be strategized for and built around in traits/stats/weapon/utility choices should exist.

Suggestion for Axe The hard way

in Necromancer

Zenith.7301

I’ve already made a suggestion for axe that would turn it into a hybrid weapon. As a Pure condi weapon it doesn’t really fit. As it is its sorta sitting in the middle of so many different play styles and doesn’t work for any of them very well. Its never been a very powerful weapon, by any stretch of the imagination.

How I’d change it is I’d first make the skill one into a chain skill. 1st damage valn, 2nd damage valn, 3rd damage and boon corruption. Second skill would damage at its 600 range but also damage up to 3 targets at melee range as well as become a whirl finisher. This makes it a very good hybrid weapon but still very functional as a power weapon if needed. Making it stronger the closer you get like reverse mesmer gs or ranger lb could give it a unique feel to it. Unlike Life blast which has always been just really really off.

No, thank you.

Hybrid weapons SUCK in PvE. Uusually, hybrid weapons have low coefficients on power and mediocre condi application without excelling in either, benefitting far less from gear tailored to one damage source.

To be honest the shout effects should be shared baseline. It’s not like even those effects you proposed are that great in PvE for the single player.

I don’t think the player needs super speed on sick em. I think a shout that increases critical damage for 5 players by 20% for 10-15 seconds is more appropriate (for reference, assassin’s presence from revenant is a 100% uptime 10% crit damage bonus aura).

I think Guard should give 4-5 seconds of protection instead and apply aegis on use.

Search & Rescue should be reverted to its old form of working on defeated players. It was used then, it is never used now.

As for the other stuff, I think one problem is that english isn’t my mother tongue. I think the way I said “most PvE” means something else to me than it does to you, which could very well be.
I meant to indicate that I am fine with a weapon which excels, say, at group interruption for mass-enemy events and on-demand power so long as I have another choice which provides, say, single-target interruption on a lower CD and steady power. Every weapon needs their niche, and one not having one is a problem, but I want weapons to have that niche.

I am more okay with that perspective. However, I think that choosing a pvp-only niche (or at least, a low-pve niche) for a weapon as important as Shield is a big design mistake. And frankly, it’s an unnecessary one.

In short, I think if they’ve given Shield a niche that excludes PvE value, they’ve made a mistake, one that can be rectified as there is easily room for a defensive weapon niche compatible with both PvE and PvP. In this particular case, tuning the iAvenger to provide better support is both thematic and valuable, and need not be overpowered in pvp.

Being frustrated over speed clearing a dungeon is not the same as being frustrated over losing a fight in wvw, or a match in pvp. People in pve have the freedom to retry scenarios, it would make sense the developers would concentrate on situations where the stake are higher. Also we have only seen some of the new pve content, it would be assumptive to declare shield inferior without seeing all the new stuff in HoT, especially upcoming raids.

What are the higher stakes in PvP? You’re dying to a set of pixels controlled by players instead? You die to enemy team, you respawn, and you go do another fight.

Don’t flatter yourself. It’s not like that pathetic army of PVT/Cleric 1 spam in WvW requires optimization.

And in spvp all you people do is cry about losing 1v1’s.

Then came the PvP human sewage with the usual PU whine, and the protection was removed from chaos armor activation.

Ta-da, a skill returned to crap state for all other builds just because a niche 1v1 dueling build was strong with it.

Too late for wells. It’s not like we had particularly appealing weapons and utilities in PvE besides portal/Feedback/Time Warp, and used anything besides mainhand sword and pistol/focus/sword offhands.

So something needs to feel the void of 2 utility slots besides feedback (assuming feedback is needed), and that falls to wells because quite frankly mantras are useless/wimpy (maybe use distraction for defiance breaks, that’s about it).

And wells do precisely that. You either use glamours or wells, and MAYBE every once in a while mantra of distraction.

The utility phantasms are so niche to the point of being useless, especially since they kitten your DPS by competing for illusion slots with DPS phantasms. You’re not gonna use most mantras, or veil, or arcane thievery/most manipulations.

You’re not gonna use any signets besides inspiration either since all of them are pretty much crappy passives and even crappier actives.

I know that not every utility/weapon is usable in PvE (well, other than certain situations to use specific ones). My concern is if the wells and shield will be the only things to bring from now on (making Feedback, Portal, Time Warp not as viable).

Time Warp is mandatory, since the elite well is garbage in pve.

Feedback is mandatory when reflects are needed.

Portal will be used if it can create efficiency in the run.

None of those utilities are in danger.

I wouldn’t call mesmer shatters/wells exactly the best AoE. Because half the effectiveness is gone in largescale battle or PvE (shatters, since the illusions die as soon as they spawn to casual cleave).

What’s more, effects like Lava Font and Meteor Shower and necro marks/wells are SUSTAINED AoE, which matters not only for tagging but for sustained pressure because the shatters and wells are damage packaged in a small burst window that can be heavily mitigated whereas blocking a single meteor from a meteor shower or a tick of lava font isn’t going to prevent you from eating a 6k+ meteor or two a few seconds later, and this is even more true for lava font.

And the mesmer autoattacks do so much less damage than my revenant’s autoattack, the phantasms can’t even make up for this sustained damage difference.

To be fair, I think it’s just Carighan saying that. (Which is why a straight damage increase is off the table, as it should be, because iAvenger out DPSing a pSwordsman would be ridiculous given its access to Slow and Alacrity.)

And yet something needs to be done about mesmer DPS in PvE, which is plain terrible and by far the lowest of all the classes.

And nothing is ever done due to fear of mesmer pvp spike damage. Just split the skills or fix mesmer burst mechanisms in pvp so the mesmer can stop being terrible sustained DPS in PvE.

And I already said, it’s massively selfish of pvp players to basically want another weapon exclusive to them.

Torch, scepter, and even to some extent staff are pvp exclusive weapons; they are incredibly weak and not used in PvE. Greatsword is not used much in PvE either, it’s essentially a weaker longbow ranger and the mirror blade bounce that was already mediocre in pve was nerfed further for pvp purposes.

So pvp mesmers use 4 more weapons than PvE mesmers can, yet somehow they should also gain exclusive rights to the shield as well?

@Drarnor: Personally, I think “Suffer!” should transfer 2 conditions to each enemy hit, that way it’s a little more effective 1v1 and in team fights. Though, 1v1 is much less important in this case

What if it could also send CC effects? Pushes it away from just being “Plague signet that is either better or worse depending on people hit” and more into its own niche.

So… Basically this? Makes it a fairly heavy skill in terms of what it does, but doesn’t seem overpowered. Just powerful

“Damage foes around you and chill them. Transfer conditions and CC to each foe you strike.

Damage Damage: 259
Negative Effects Transferred: 2
Chilled (3s): -66% Skill Recharge Rate, -66% Movement Speed
Number of Targets: 5
Radius: 600"

Nah, would only need to transfer either one CC effect or a condition to each target hit. Transferring a Daze is already a stunbreak on steroids. It doesn’t also need to transfer up to 9 conditions on top of that.

Stunbreak on steroid are the warrior and thief 10-15 sec cd stunbreaks.

Except the revenant doesnt share boons it pulses them.
The revenant has a lot of on demand utility. But as a result it is generally inferior to its the counterparts from the main classes.

We have access to all boons in game. Revenant does not. We can share quickness, vigor, resistance, retaliation, aegis better than it.

I made a revenant and a Chronomancer. The Chronomancer was the superior boon support by far.

lol I’d love to know what dps build you’re running that’s giving your allies 10 might and perma fury.

you get perma fury from the dueling tree, and might stacks of that high or greater from illusions + strength runes/pack runes/travelers or frequent greatsword+ that trait. then just use the signet 1-4 times and tada.

Obviously your post has nothing to do with PvE, as usual. Because the meta PvE build is dom/dueling/chrono. No illusions, and mesmers don’t use anything but scholar runes. Fury from dueling comes on mobs with under 75% health, so for the first 25% hp of a raid boss you are generating no fury.

I don’t even know why I bothered responding when as usual it’s gimmick WvW builds.

…What high horse are you on. If my build had anything to do with pve I would say that perma fury might or swiftness is completely irrelevant as elementalists outshine it. Warriors outshine it. The revenant does absolutely nothing that cannot be replaced by another class or isnt useful in pve. You are getting angry that you can’t have only the good parts from an otherwise lackluster class.

They have great uptime on stability and protection. Nothing else they can do matters. Unless suddenly people feel comfortable going condi in pve, and then maybe bringing a revenant is useful.

Currently, revenants do very quality power dps in PvE. They have great spiking power, and additionally spread permanent aoe fury, swiftness, 10ish stacks of might, and occasional regen and prot without needing to anything more than roll through their rotation as normal. If you really think that’s “lackluster” in PvE, you’ve got a bit of a reality check needed.

Very quality power damage, is not enough considering everything else you listed is given in abundance by the current meta.

Put another way, Revenant is 3rd in DPS behind ele and sinister engineer, it provides the unique aura of Assassins’ Presence, and Facet of nature will increase quickness and protection duration by 50% (since might and fury are stacked in abundance, but quickness and protection are limited).

If you think revenant won’t be meta, there’s not much help for you.

I’ve got one move that’s garunteed to work against all Reaper builds: stay further than 600 range away. Reaper’s got nothing he can do then.

Probably will work. Been using a lot of close attacks with Revenant and Thief recently so that might be why. Thanks to the few with kind replys back.

So you’ve decided reaper needs nerfs based on your experience with a brand new class you haven’t practiced for more than two beta weekends, and a completely new elite spec on a squishy class that requires finesse to play well.

You need to think things through better before jumping for the nerf button.

For what game format? What does Chaos offer you in PvE, specifically?

The specifics of how chronomancer is played may change (weapons used, chronomancy traits chosen, utilities), but the useful PvE traitlines really don’t.

It seems like every person feels that a class should be balanced around their inability to cope with them in a 1v1.

As I run a build that clears condi’s, even that can’t stand a Reaper’s shroud skills, my characters just are no match to the pure damage a reaper is doing and I find the reaper being just a little bit too much over powered.

…yeah, ok. No.

the meta PvE build is dom/dueling/chrono.

What does this even mean? Chrono is not out yet, we’ve had scarcely any time to test it, and no one is doing speed runs on beta classes.

There is no meta.

Meh, nitpicking. Call it “the standard build that will be run given it stays this way”.

Short of some significant rework to inspiration/illusions/chaos magic, this will be the build that chronomancers run on release.

They’ll switch out dueling for Inspiration when reflects are needed. You don’t need to run it live. Many people are already testing out these beta classes on fractal 50 for optimal builds.

I suspect the heavy focus in development won’t be on revisiting their recently revamped vanilla specializations anyways given they’ve still got revenant and elite spec balancing, on top of druid+forge left to go. But I’ll be happy to be proven wrong.

Because you ran out of transmutation charges on the test server and for some reason wardrobe isn’t free in beta.

Blighter’s Boon always over Deathly Chill. Deathly Chill is pitiful right now. Chilling Victory for solo might stacking, Soul Eater anywhere else.

Well considering one sniper charged shot can deplete your entire reaper shroud in one hit, I can only imagine what happens to an elementalist.

The sniper adds seem a tad overtuned, as are the stalkers. The rest are fine.
