So, you’re saying you don’t run wellspring or drakes or bears, got it.

None of those will save a pet from a zerg in wvw, hell even 20 vs 20 guild fights.

You’re talking smallscale skirmishes or 1v1 here.

Picking up deals 30% of your maximum health so it doesn’t matter that much who picks it.

A toon with 11k hp loses enough hp to be in a 1 shot range. A high hp or heavy armor target does not.

It’s about absorbing burst but that may not be obvious if you run with a guild who puts down blind fields or kills the things fast enough before anyone eats damage.

I’ll admit there are exceptions, like a necromancer who’s a terrible class for running hammer due to little stability or blinks and can’t even sue DS to absorb damage without dropping hammer.

But it’s really frustrating after you’ve used decoy or mass invis to run a hammer to drop the hammer and see the perfectly healthy warrior/guardian make the thief or ele pick a hammer up after that thief/ele has lost almost half their health from a single cultist melee swing.

It’s a core game design issue and boon range is a tiny aspect of what’s the problem. AoE spells and cleave on melee in this game are just too good. What’s the point of single target weapons when weapons that cleave/aoe are doing similar damage.

Then this core game design is literally forcing some classes to be absolutely worthless. What option does a necromancer have for melee cleave? Absolutely none (Dagger hitting 2 targets is relatively new and 2 targets is still not even comparable to all other classes). I assume they’re going to address this with Necro Greatsword to be honest but still my point is the same.

My arguement is that they seem to have all of these obstacles purposely set up to absolutely demolish choice in pve/dungeons. Why not start fixing some of them. Even if boon range is only 1 aspect of the problem. It needs to start somewhere. At least if that’s fixed its one problem down.

Yeah, we’ll see what HoT does.

Few(maybe none) mobs focus on range players, that why you have world events where you camp range weapon just with AA. It’s a design games follow as an excuse for melee to have more defense and AoE. Boons are usually to survive more than boost there is less threat at range why do you need them?? It’s the design nothing to do with boons, if you like range that much come at melee with your ranged weapon voila.

Might is not a defensive boon. It’s a massive, if not the biggest dps boost ingame.

Also even if boons were ranged, can’t make use of blind fields if not stacking in melee, can’t stack mobs with los for aoe/cleave.

Then simply separate them for pve/spvp. They’ve already done this with other things. Quite frankly this potentially “a bit OP” design choice is absolutely murdering pve build choice. PvE and dungeons are almost required “CLUMP FOR BUFFS!!!!!1!!one!!!!”

That’s an arguable point. Sure, for players who only play PvE or PvP, there wouldn’t be any difference. But for people who play in every game mode, a separation of skills is not a good idea. Don’t forget that GW2 is a RPG: I have learnt a set of skills through leveling, why would I learn another by stepping into pvp? And what about WvW, which is a PvE/PvP mix? I don’t care for small adjustments (confusion being stronger in PvE, CnD dealing more damage), but I like the idea that a new player who plays pvp for the first time can use the skills he learnt already.

Nevertheless, I think Anet cares about the issue you’re talking about. Maybe the defiant changes and the removal of condition stacks will help? Another problem is that we’re so used to the old dungeons now that they seem super easy, and we can do them with zerker gear. We also have ascended, so we don’t really need to care about our survivability.

I’m sorry but one game mode shouldn’t languish for years just because some lazy people can’t learn and adapt.

I guess new people can’t grasp the concept of dodging or blast fields so boons should just instantly happen on them so we don’t inconvenience them with having to learn game mechanics.

It’s not gonna fix stacking. Reason melee rules is because it concentrates where projectiles are flying for reflects( so you get most projectiles reflected instead of wasting a wall on 1-2 projectiles on a separate person), melee does more DPS than ranged weapons even without boons factored in, and melee cleaves 3 targets whereas ranged autoattacks besides staff ele and rifle engi do not.

Zenith, the daze is a line daze, so it is aoe, it hits up to 5 targets, just an fyi. Further more, when you build around mainhand sword and blink the mobility issues become negligible within the small size of the arenas in pvp.

On another note Ross, I find it hard to justify building for aoe when the mesmer is just so bloody kitten at it…

Line =/= aoe. It pierces, but for example you can’t compare a rapid fire with piercing shots to a meteor shower. One will cover more area than the other and if you want reliable interruption of a group, the circle is far more likely to catch people unless you’re telling me your opponents have a way of positioning themselves in a line behind each other often.

The sword offhand is purely a single target skill.

And the thing is unlike warrior offhand sword riposte or ranger counterattack on greatsword, iot doesn’t block projectiles while channeled so if someone is sniping you from range your sword offhand will just trigger a clone on first hit and proceed to be useless.

What Blizzard did with Heroes of The Storm was simple and effective. It disabled communication between opposing teams, and allowed you to put your own team mates on ignore so the chat wouldn’t show up in the chat box.

Quite frankly it should do the same as WvW and instead of revealing the names with their account names so you can whisper them, it gives them anonymous names like in WvW and makes it so you can’t whisper them.

Another thing they can do is crack down on toxic behavior, honestly. Have a working report system where GM’s can check dialogue and give out serious punishment, either weeklong bans, etc if repeated offenses ban them from entering arenas for the rest of the season.

Reason why this toxic atmosphere has thrived is because the people who have the ability to change it simply do nothing about it. It’s a sort of “boys will be boys” mentality where people expect and accept that the genre can be filled with a bunch of college aged ethugs behaving like animals, and arenanet doesn’t simply say “No. Not here. Go somewhere else if you want to be a savage.”

The Thaumanova bug seems to be related to the heat room. Every time I do the heat room, I go invisible afterwards. It seems to be fixable by re-entering the heat room.

LOL, you use living story as an example? Seriously? Please show me a video of your marvelous interrupts in fractal 50 or Arah where most of the damage comes from AUTOATTACKS.

And this proves what exactly, except that you lack the ability to look at more than a minority content few players even touch? AE heal on interrupt would be interesting (not my idea), and hey, it works in a lot of areas of the game, including the most prominently marketed ones (sPvP, WvW, LS).

Plus, what does it matter if it doesn’t work in dungeons? Retraiting is free and instant. Better to have a decent trait 90% of the time than, well, current Disruptor’s Sustainment.

Yeah because 90% of the time players are dueling/roaming/spvping.

Please, can I roll my eyes more when someone claims their particular content type is the most played and those you don’t play are the minority? lolstupid.

It’s kind of a meaningless brag if you call a dungeon population small, considering the last dungeon introduced was….2 years ago? If your WvW map gpt scratched in favor of more open world pve zerg farm, your population would get smaller too.

Not that your zerging keep doors and sitting behind carts merits any type of respect as a format. It really speaks of a game’s format when people would rather roam/duel and ignore the actual objectives of the map because they’re so mindnumbingly dull as sitting behind a catapult or far off tebuchet spamming a single button against a wall…

Ranger or Guardian: Best DPS In PvE?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Zenith.7301

Zenith.7301

Ranger has the highest dps of the two if we’re talking flat damage in full berserker set ups.

Having said that, if I was given a choice between having a guardian in my party or having a ranger, I’d pick the guardian every time, due to the sheer amount of party support they offer.

Every class can dish out a hell of a lot of damage if built for it, and guardian can offer far more to a party than ranger can.

I also actively play both guardian and ranger, and can vouch that guardians are far more useful in parties

Wrong. Unscathed contender berk guardian beats the ranger not only in THEORY, but in practice where the ranger will always have lower dps due to the flaws of mainhand sword autoattack making it impossible for him to max melee range bosses outside of their hitbox for safety.

Moreover, the guardian has better CLEAVE. Of all your pets, your top DPS pet, cats, do not cleave, it’s the inferior dps drakes. Meanwhile a guardian with sword/focus+greatsword cleaves all targets.

More importantly, PvE in this game is about BURST. With enough burst, you can skip entirre boss mechanics phases, and kill thrash pulls before they can even pose a threat.

The guardian has far better burst, because the ranger doesn’t even have burst. Whirling wrath and shield of wrath will blow the ranger out of the water in burst opening with 25 stacks of might and fury.

Who's gonna get rich off precursor crafting?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Zenith.7301

Zenith.7301

Sure, but the point is that people were QQing about how precursor crafting would ‘fix’ their issues with the cost of a legendary when in fact, those same people who couldn’t hack a precursor aren’t going to be able to hack the other mats for the legendary process, especially now we can anticipate increased demand for them.

You might have a point if you had a point. Unfortunately (well, “unfortunately”, because there’s nothing unfortunate about it) most of the "qq"ing was not about cost of the legendary crafting, but about the rng-based precursor acquisition. Yes, the end cost of legendaries (and effort required to craft them) will likely stay the same, but that was not what most people wanted to change at all.

Yes, and the alternative to that was NOT RNG precursor purchasing on the TP, which the same QQer’s about the RNG didn’t like either …

Doesn’t matter, when Legendaries double in price to create, I’ll be profiting from the same people, pointing out to them they got exactly what they asked for.

You don’t get it, do you?

Let me offer an example that might hopefully help you.

I’ve been playing since closed beta. I grinded to craft the only 2 legendaries I like because despite the average 3+ hour l;ogin on a daily basis since closed beta all the way to now, I’ve NEVER received a precursor.

So I grinded gold for my 2 precursos for ~3-4 months each. I only like doing dungeons in this game, I hate open world zerg farms, so my time was slower.

On the other hand, on the first month of release, a guildie got A dusk on a temple of grenth in one week, and the legend dropped for him a week later, funding the complete craft of his Twilight. He quit the game a month later.

So I, the loyal customer who’s spent hundreds of dollars on their gemstore on account upgrades and minis an dye packs and character unlocks and bank tags, done months of fractal 50, got to fractal lv80 befor4e fractal revamp, completed all my dungeon paths and did copious amounts of WvW.

What did I get for my time? Oh, to grind for a quarter of a year for something that my guildie who quit in the second month of the game’s release got for FREE, INSTANTLY WITHOUT MERIT.

Precursors in this game have been the equivalent of world of warcraft randomly dropping 500k gold to someone. It’s that obscene an amount of wealth to gift to someone on a random basis and a total disrespect for the time investment of your players.

It also made my blood boil that while I tackled the hardest group content in the game, some schmuck who couldn’t even get past fractal 38 before fractal revamp could play the auction house and buy his way to 5+ legendaries.

I disagree Zenith. Interrupting in PvE is insanely easy. I do it all the time without even trying when I’m playing the Living Story. Their attacks are really slow.

I think the skill has to remain interrupt-based, because of its name. As much as I’d like to believe Anet would scrap a trait, that’s wishful thinking on my part. I think the suggestions made here are good for making it an interrupt trait worthy of taking.

Those skills do sound interesting. I think healing through distortion isn’t gm worthy considering we only have 2 different ways to do it, one requiring a 4 point trait in Dueling, not taking DE AND the use of signets, and the other being a shatter on a 46s cd at best.

Another problem is people would use OH sword if the mesmer had some kitten mobility, but many people are forced into offhand just to move around faster than a snail’s pace.

I also want to add that in a small scale battle, your iduelist with sharpened images will net you more damage than iswordsman thanks to more bleed procs than a phantasm who procs a single bleed stack.

OH sword just needs more utility, and quite honest we need more phantasms who cleave, iduelist’s bullet barrage should pierce and iswordsman should honestly hit 2 additional nearby targets with his attack.

Ya thats fine to say, but a necro is still basically a necro, warriors are still warriors, rangers are still rangers, they all have the same basic class philosophy in place. Mesmers are not still Mesmers, our entire class philosophy was changed. We used to be all about controlling the opponent, now our primary meta build is built around stealth and exploding clones, there is no controlling the opponent like in GW1. So ya this is a new game, but our class is the only one that got essentially changed to a new class, with mostly skills names being the similarity with old mesmer.

Not really. Rangers in gw1 were never a pet class. The pet was entirely optional, they had preparations in gw1 as an essential mechanic as well as stances, both of which were plundered from the class and given to the thieves as venoms and warriors getting their OP stances.

Necromancers used to be kings of conditional damage, in GW2 that’s the engineer’s game, where he has more condition variety and frontloading than the necromancer.

Mesmer illusions + Ranger Runes

The coefficients per sec numbers in my post did account for the attack speeds, both for mes and the ele.

Trait allocations for the ele

Note that I did not include the Acane Lightning in my dmg modifier numbers in the previous post, which is actually another ~4% dmg boost for 15 sec after you use an arcane skill (the heal, arcane blast, etc). And yes, with a staff ele in the party you more or less will have perma burning.

Again all these traits are all situational, On an ideal situation you wont get all these bonuses 100% of the time.

For example 10% more damage when in air, what if youre not?
The comparison I was making was the mesmer traits, those % modifiers on phants give out a flat bonus without any condition on them.

Maybe it is my fault but I was talking about PvP. Noone would trait for those traits all at the same time.

The damage bonus is not only in air, but in fire as well as there are modifiers for both.

And quite honestly you are a terrible ele player if you stay in water or earth attunement for longer than just casting ice burst/comet or obsidian flesh and magnetic wave.

Water and earth attunement autoattacks are absolutely horrendous so it’s not inaccurate at all to say that a pve ele starts the rotation on fire, blasts with water ice burst+comet, switches to earth for magnetic wave and immediately switches to air for lightning whip spam until fire comes back up for another burning retreat.

And you know the cute thing? Burning retreat does more damage instantly than a channeled blurred frenzy, provides a fire field, and burns as well so the ele can keep his %+ boost to burning targets.

But hey let’s not look at the ele.

Let;s look at the thief. Pistol Whips is basically a blurred frenzy on steroids you can use nearly indefinitely, and while Blurred Frenzy hits for a pitiful 5-6k without might stacks, pistol whip is going for 8-9k. And pistol whips stuns to boot on TOP of evading like blurred frenzy.

And pistol whip isn’t even thief single target, that’s their dumb cleave for which they can be immune to damage for long periods of time. Cnd>backstab weaving with dagger just blows mesmer out of the water.

I’m virtually doing 8k+ backstabs every ~3 seconds on top of 6k CnD’s without might stacks. With better dagger autoattacks to boot, and sword autos also blow mesmer out of the water.

My mesmer wishes he could even get close to that. Hell, even playing my warrior, which people nowadays deem mediocre, I am disgusted by the damage gap between that and my mesmer. Good god, the amount of ramp up and effort I need to put in.

Having to only use pistol and waste some time positioning my phantasms away from arah abomination or most bosses in fractals, so I can keep at least 3 phantasms up to do somewhat competitive damage, only for some fool to run the boss near them and one shot them with a melee autoattack that cleaves, or this stupid game peppering the ground with aoe that one shots them.

Or the fact that my iduelist hits a single target for less than a Hundred Blades cast, but has nearly three times the cooldown and despawns when the target dies and doesn’t cleave. We have a total of 2 cleaving phantasms, an immobile iwarden and an izerker on a suboptimal dps weapon.

And to be honest the guardian does reflects even more reliably than we do, with higher projectile absorption uptimes, better burst damage and sustained damage, group aegis.

Honestly outside time warp and portal there’s little we have to offer. Veil is a joke next to smoke screen+shortbow blasts, I don’t even get how that skill can be on the same cd as an elite with a pitiful 2 sec duration, but that’s WvW for you, nerfing the mesmer (from portal running out of time before it deactivates, to having a range that the thief’s shadow trap doesn’t) ever since the game came out.

I am sick and tired of spvp and wvw whine nerfing this class to the ground, that’s all these game formats have ever done. Nerfs, because everybody knows that what pvp brings to games is people wanting other classes nerfed because they lost duels to them or their team lost to another that had x class.

Even our phantasm cooldowns got nerfed and increased to placate a pvp crowd, namely the spvp babies that even though phantasm mesmers have NEVER been a tournament viable spec, because phantasms were strong duelists in hotjoins, the class needed the nerfbat.

Please, explain how chaos storm being a chaotic RNG-based daze-on-pulse is strangling the design of other skills.

(btw, I don’t care about 1v1 and I think a cooldown on CS daze would make the weapon actually a lot less effective in both PVP and WVW)

It strangles the trait of confounding suggestions, for one. The RNG either favors you or the ability does nothing.

The horror of chaos storm actually being a danger zone instead of some lottery skill, where the icd is put in exchange for actually beefing up the damage of the skill so you have a reliable source of aoe damage, which mesmers don’t have to begin with unless you’re one of those brilliant people that dares compare something like izerker to actual aoe classes.

P.S. People bragging about chaos storm killing people with halting strike (a niche trait at best) have probably never played an ele with meteor shower and frostbow let alone a hammer warrior. The damage is not even comparable and Chaos Storm is a 35 sec cd skill, 5 seconds longer than meteor shower which is a far superior skill in pretty much every area of the game besides duels/roaming.

I hope that the new Precursors can be obtained by drops as well as “the journey”. BUT I must say that if a new precursor is obtained by a drop, or by the forge, it absolutely SHOULD be able to be sold. I like the idea that if I use “the journey” method, it’s mine and mine alone – because I chose that one. But if it’s obtained by drop or forge, and it’s yours and yours alone, that’s not cool. If I got a precursor that was for a legendary I don’t want, and I can’t do anything with it, that would really suck. That’s not fun. I hope they clarify this soon.

What part of not tradeable don’t you get. It’s pretty clear they don’t want prestige to be purchased by someone playing the auction house.

Condi bunker ranger is a decent roaming spec. It has little escape from getting overrun with opponents who join in because the ranger spec kills slowly, and against anyone with a brain who uses their roots well, you won’t escape a group where you become outnumbered.

It’s the best attrition build ranger has, but it’s countered by warriors, engineers, and good necromancers (which you’ll rarely encounter because necromancer has no mobility whatsoever so even if it’s a good duelist it sucks at roaming as it can’t disengage).

If you’re gonna roam, just pick thief or engineer, even cele d/d ele works but a halfway decent s/d thief takes a crap on any ele.

It’s horrible, I don’t like open world because to be honest everything is either a pushover that requires no thoughtful input, and if they make something like Vinewrath and Triple Worms, it’s simply a matter of brute forcing it with a zerg, your individual contribution is marginalized — it really doesn’t matter.

That’s why I like dungeons. I KNOW I’m making a significant impact with my play within a challenging environment. I’m virtually 1/5 of the contribution, which is a lot better than being 1 out of 20-40+ people spamming 1 on HP sacks.

I will NEVER like dynamic events or open world zones, especially as a mesmer main with terrible aoe tagging options and a bunch of lethal aoe spam mechanisms that kill my illusions even faster than they already die in dungeons. To be honest I want my Destiny’s Edge back. Braham is an idiot, his conversation with a dying Scarlet was so dumb it hurt.

Everyone is too goodie two shoes except for Marjory, because Marjory is boss except for all the gooey eyed love talk with Kasmeer. They’re adults they should be romantic like adults actually are.

Maybe someone should also test the runes with an actual ranger… just to see if the bonus as a whole is broken, or if it indeed only stopped working for all adds that are not ranger pets (mini-pets, illusions, summoned thieves, elementals, etc.)

It works with necro minions, ranger pets, and some warrior banners and guardian spirit weapons.

They just decided to screw mesmers. So I had to dump 50g into strength runes for their negligence.

It’s probably in the DnT website or somewhere buried in these forums I’m not gonna do a thorough search through months old posts just because you can’t bother to do so yourself to distract from the fact you’ve implied stacks are even a factor keeping condi specs out of viability (they don’t, it’s the DAMAGE OUTPUT).

Right there is a video comparing a full condi warrior kill to a power spec kill.

I meant that it’d be helpful for events, dungeons/fractals, etc. where you have teammates.

Currently, because there are max stacks, condition builds are sub-optimal because if you have more than one, they often can’t get their full stacks of conditions. Power builds don’t have this issue. This is part of the reason why you see Power builds more often in PvE.

No, the reason is that even if you were the sole condition spec in a dungeon group under ideal conditions, you’d still be 3k+ DPS behind.

What is it that people don’t get about the inferiority of conditions? THEY DO LESS DAMAGE. It’s not just the caps, they scale from a single stat, period.

Moreover, condition specs do not have BURST. For example, take lupi, entire phases and encounter mechanics can be skipped by bursting a boss down, which conditions don’t do, and some bosses even self cleanse conditions.

If you are a condition spec, in any aspect of the game besides pvp, YOU ARE GETTING CARRIED. POWER SPECCED PEOPLE ARE CARRYING YOUR kitten .

Removing condition caps won’t fix that. Power specs will still be superior and expected.

You do realize they saddled us with a bunch of useless grandmaster traits on their “trait update” and didn’t even blink with something like disruptor’s sustainment, right?

This is peanuts to them, they don’t care.

Jon Peters since late beta/early released asked for feedback on changes to Cry of Frustration and that he would look into that and other shatters.

Guess what happened. Oh, nothing.

Just look at Revenant and their traits/skills, that’s all you need to know.

I guess this is not a bug but a fix of unintended functionality…

Right, mesmer is not a pet class, just a class whose base abilities do 20%+ less damage than the other classes and the entirety of their output in pve depends on PETS (phantasms).

Clearly an exploit!

1000$? Isn’t that a bit much for a video game? Frankly, if you like the game that much, paying something like 50$ for an expansion might be worth it. But hey, do as you want.

You might find that hard to believe, but $1000 is chump change for a lot of people that aren’t college students or Walmart employees.

Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic someday?

Copper fed salvage o matic alone is 1k gems. Even if you have one already, it means you can give it to a toon so you don’t constantly have to pass it around to alts via the bank.

Then you get the extractors, priced normally at 250 gems each ,so 750 gems worth on top of two items normally worth 1k gems, the ticket scraps which are a low drop rate on BLTC chests.

Simply put, it’s a bargain.

Isn’t it sad how a hammer warrior can aoe stun and cc/cripple with a fraction of the cooldown and way more damage than a mesmer can? And I mean stuns, not dazes that people can still walk with. Same goes for an engineer really.

Mesmer, CC class my kitten . Everything with the class is random. Random boons. Random conditions. Random effect application.

kitten kitten warriors. They make bearbow rangers look like champions. You can REALLY tell when you got a kitten warrior, especially the kind that doesn’t pick up the kitten hammer in the colossus fractal and forces the 11k hp ele or thief or even mesmer to run it.

You know, thief worked so well without cooldowns, let’s give it to revenants too!

Well, initiative with thieves was spammy enough, what did you think would happen with energy.

Classes with no cd system tend to spam the strongest skills.

Revenant got all the utility that other classes wish they had gotten.

I bet you the vanilla profession tweaks will be something useless like adding retaliation to a skill or increasing a hit count to 3 targets or reducing a cooldown by 5 seconds and most of the garbage traits like the mesmer, ranger, and necromancer traits will remain barely touched.

Why play a deeply flawed class that might get some flaws fixed when you can play a revenant where every trait is strong and not of NICHE use. Start with the new class that will start with far less flaws than the vanilla ones did.

I mean, look at all those awful mesmer interrupt traits, virtually all of them useless in pve and in pvp group fights they’re not even reliable. Or 1k healing power on interrupt, or the awful strider’s defense or the terrible trait that makes pets attack faster when you are downed.

They no longer work. The 7% damage bonus fails to apply now with clones/illusions up…

Does it still work with mini?

Nope.

I sure hope so

Nope, even without caps crit damage based specs outperform condition specs, and will continue to do so until conditions can crit.
