@ alanis – Oh I’m sorry, I guess the class is fine now then I’ll go back and play it…
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
Necro is not a bad class at all in my opinion, my main problem is all the bugs and broken traits/skills with the class that still have not been fixed.
Life force gain trait, scepter bleed duration not stacking with hemophillia, plague signet not removing conditions from allies, corrupt boon not working, pets AI still not fixed, blood traits messed up, elite forms/DS/ and minions being super countered by moa, all of this irritates me that it’s not fixed yet after 1 month that the game has been out.
So when I’m playing and one of this things affect me I think, hey how awesome would it be if this had been fixed, and every patch I look forward tothese fixes and nothing.

As a necromancer main, After seeing pictures and videos of the Legendary staff the Bifrost, I’ve come to the conclusion of not getting this legendary weapon for my main.
Mainly because the staff is not up to par with the legendary greatswords in my opinion. I don’t want to be a rainbow-ish staff holding Necromancer with my black/red Arah set or Nightmare Set casting Black Scythes and Grasping Hands it just would not feel right to have that staff, I’d rather have the Nightmare Staff instead which is what I think I’m going for, not as rare but fits my theme much better. I wish we had more options of legendary looks is my point.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the Bifrost is a staff specifically made for the Elementalist, which makes more sense to have that staff with all the different elements casting.
For this very reason I’ve decided to make a Guardian Multi just so I can have it wield Twilight, which is a way more awesome Legendary IMO, just think it’s a shame that my main won’t wield one, even if I can get another Legendary I would never get The Bifrost for my Necro.

After my monthly achievement reset, now instead of having reach 100,000xp without dying bar I have a bar with two “???”
Is this a change? Anyone know what this is about or anyone else have these question marks instead? Also for a fact I know I’ve reached 100k exp without dying however the bar still didn’t fill up so no clue what’s up here.

I run a power necro with dagger/warhorn and axe/focus and the damage has indeed increased because of the recent fixes and the change in BiP. I have 25 pts in soul reaping for increased life force and crit damage, life blast pierce and causing vulnerability and might (this trait is in spite) I cause 5% more damage if my life force is over 50% which I try to keep there unless it’s a really close fight or I have a chance of retreating from a battle. So when I have my enemy under 50% health I cast BiP for even more increased damage. Not to mention Lich Form where I’ve managed to down 3 players with it.
Also use the trait that increases damage by 20% if under 50% health and a rune of the eagle i think that does the same thing with 5% under 50% health. So when my enemy is under 50% health I can switch up to DS and finish them off pretty fast specially because every life blast grants vulnerability and might, if not I switch to dagger depends on my health mostly, I’ve done up to 4k crits with the last hit on the dagger and 5k life blasts to light classes.
This of course with bersekers rune, but I switch it up to vitality/precision runes for more health and longer DS but I lose crit damage.

As much as I enjoy the game I wouldn’t really want to spend the same amount of time leveling up alts as I did my main, for this I ask what is the best way to procceed to leveling up your alt, is there any specific guides out there, or any specific game mode that helps the most? (PvE vs WvWvW) I know that crafting 1-400 gives (or gave) 10 flat levels no matter what level you are, however crafting mats could be pretty expensive so taking this into consideration I’d probably do 2 crafting professions so that would be about 20 but what about the rest?
I’ve leveled up 3 alts to level 15, which only took about 5 hours each including completing queensdale and personal story up to lvl 14. I’m sure things change on the higher levels, from what I remember 25-40 were the slowest for me but then again I was completing pretty much everything.
So open to any suggestions, willing to make a guide here if we get everything together.

@ Josh – It does actually, Lvl 80 with good gear here and some skill pts and vistas I wouldn’t have gotten if my gear didn’t matter as much in 1vs1s and 2vs1. I just killed my enemies with ease and went ahead into enemy territory like a boss and got what I needed for my 100% map completion.

backstab thieves are too easy and predictable for my necro. Only time I die to them is when they backstab me out of nowhere while I’m fighting 1 or 2 other people and my stunbreaks and DS are on cooldown.

Yes dagger is stupid sometimes. Last night I was trying to finish a ranger and I guess when i placed a mark I also clicked on their pet at the same time, so there I was hitting 1 and missing over and over even though I was right in front of him I was like wtf.
So I figured out after a few secs I had his pet as target and actually had to target the ranger to be able to hit him.

I actually found that the biggest problem with this map is that the center point is too close to both teams spawn point, therefore when a battle starts it could take half the match to cap the point because of sharks, people on down still on the point and people respawning and quickly getting back into the fight putting the other team down and repeating the proccess.
All maps except this one have the center cap point quite a bit away from the spawn point.

Guess we see it differently then, to me a stunbreak every 10 seconds or so with probably an added 1sec stun is pretty useful as long as there’s charge for it. As for the rest of the skills they are not that great and slow like people have been pointing out, but in its current state I don’t think DS is meant to be in it for a while but rather, go in defensively and save life force for the next burst/stun on you.
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
Well I was just quoting you when you said that it’s only useful when specced to it. It’s pretty useful when not specced to it. You’d be surprised how tough to beat a necro is when DS is used correctly.
And to add when I mean defensively. I don’t wait until DS completely depletes, for example when I get bullrushed->HB combo I just go in DS->Doom and come right out of it, wasting almost none. Then If I need it again I do the same. True when it all depletes you’re going to have a tougher time but when it’s full a necro is one hard class to beat.
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
What you said Zogyark would be completely valid if you were able to predict ahead of time in the future what abilities your enemies were going to use and how, and when. Unfortunately if you just enter DS hoping to avoid some major damage you might just waste your life force and it’s just completely done for the rest of the fight. It’s true that your life force is equal to your HP, however your HP does not degenerate with time and while out of DS you’re able to actually be effective in battle – while with DS on you lose all your precious strategy and abilities and instead get 4 abilities which are virtually completely useless for most builds unless they are completely DS focused.
To be honest you can somewhat predict depending on the weapons of your enemies for example a GS warrior casting signet of rage is most likely going to bullrush you at any point, same with sword/pistol thief, or a sword mesmer will most likely use #2 on you as soon as he can. it’s just a matter of reaction
However a rule of thumb is if you get stunned, something big is most likely to follow. It’s just a matter of experience PvPing that it becomes an instinct when these burst damages are happening. DS is also good to buy you time while you’re waiting on CDs. I don’t spend much time in DS but it’s good to have it there as this defense tool with a 10 second cooldown I’m very thankful for it and miss it dearly when playing with other professions.
Also it’s not about predicting when and hoping the enemy does the attack after you’re in DS, it’s going into DS right after the enemy starts their combo.

@Stice
The mesmer’s shatter only being useful if they’re in the right place? That’s completely incorrect, I play a mesmer as well and when I use a shatter so often I’ve seen the clones just chasing after my target for some 5 seconds before shattering, not once have they ever simply shattered where they stood and made it useless, they always home into your target before shattering. Also it is nice to have a (very unreliable and quickly degenerating) extra health pool but if while you have this second HP bar if you’re not able to do anything useful while in it, it’s just doing you more harm than good. Because with the way people say it, it’s as if the game just stops for you when you go into DS and thus you have a better chance of survival – this is completely not true because while you’re wasting time in DS form not able to do anything good, your opponents are still there still able to use their abilities and still able to kick your kitten one way or another.
Whenever I’m using another class to play and I go against a necromancer and I see them going into DS form the first thing I think is “I beat him”, why? Because while in DS form I have absolutely NO fear (no pun intended) of him at all because I know while in DS mode he poses no threat to me and it also means that once the DS form is gone I’ll be able to quickly dispose of him.
The only time DS is useful is if you spec into it, focus on it completely and strictly run a damage build – and still it’s a form which is very consequential because if you’re 1vs1 with someone and you use up the DS, there is no way you’re gonna be getting it back until that battle is over.
Disagreed, even when not specced DS still has the same amount of pool as your health, and can be accessed at anytime. When you’re trying to blow your combo, 100b, frenzy blades, pistol whip, whatever your burst is and a necro goes to DS to negate that damage then comes out of it like nothing happened only to build it back up again. It can change the outcome of the battle, just have to know when to use it.

I don’t know if I dreamt it or it actually happened. But last night in a spvp game i actually managed to kill 4 people with my 18k health condition necro.
It was in the forest map, at the mine there was a fight going on, 1 of my teammates was getting jumped by 3 other players, so I went on those wood stairs and like any good necro would do I spammed my marks, on the point while they were trying to finish my teammate, i feared them then they went back to finish him again so I switched to scepter and used the #2 and the #5 skill, casted blood is power and used epidemic right after, numbers started flying off the screen I jumped down and went into DS and used life transfer.
By this time all 3 were in downed state and another player came, I went ahead and casted scepter conditions, a few auto attacks, used plague signet, I had some conds on me. Then epidemic again (To condition on the downed players), went into Plague form, and killed the 3 players in downed state and then finished off the last one.
Probably the best moment I’ve had with my necro in a while, and just can’t help to think the things we’ll be able to do once our traits and skills are fixed. I finished that match with like 320 pts
This was all ofc a combination of the element of surprise and probably not very skilled players still was pretty cool.
Wish I had frapped the whole thing, but you never see these things coming. Cheers.

What Moa does
1. Disables all your skills including utilities and Elite
2. It counters an Elite if in use, but you can’t use an Elite to counter Moa
3. You cannot stunbreak while in Moa so any stuns after the transformation will lock you down
4. It disables you for 10 seconds, where you are useless to your team, this is crucial for sPvP, tPvP games, If you’re defending a point you have to run away or die as a bird, if you’re capturing a point, you have to try to run away and so you’ve wasted precious time
5. 2vs2 or 3vs3 fights can be decided on the factor that the moa bird will be stunlocked and beat to death, i’ve seen it happen a lot. once one player is down, good luck winning a 3vs2.
It’s sad really that people defend it still after all reasonable discussion has been brought, the enemy should be immune to damage as a Moa bird, the point is to disable not disable and kill, not a IWIN button which is what it is actually.
Oh and when people say that if you lose a 1vs1 when you’re moad you would’ve lost anyway without it is quite laughable.
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
Reactionary thinking rather than pre-emptive is why you get killed. You see Moa and you panic. That’s what gets you killed.
What does a Moa do, exactly? It takes someone’s offensive ability out of a skirmish. That’s not really helping someone die faster (most of the time, few exceptions of course), it’s helping a team survive better or push down one of the other enemy players with less counter-support to deal with.
If that Warrior (or that same Mesmer) could still pin you down and slaughter you, they didn’t need the Moa to do it and it was a waste of a cast. Really, it’s not a hard concept to get.
Ignorance at it’s best here, the reason why you’re being pinned down as a Moa is because YOU CAN NOT use stun breaks or any utilities as the bird, therefore any stun after the transform will pin you and have you slaughtered. If you get stunned by a warrior or a mesmer on normal form, guess what… YOU CAN use stun break.
It can’t be clearer than that.

It’s indeed not very fun, would be fun if… DS skills changed depending on the weapon, or if increased life force pool had an effect on the skills, but as it is right now it’s not fun, even with a power deathshroud build its not so fun just to spam 1 trying to kill a target.
So basically it’s just there to take high damage and fear when necessary.

DS is still great even without traiting it only for the very reason that when stunned you can go into it and fear I mean lol, what class gets a free health pool they can go to when they are getting bursted with a strong move.
Retired Until Expansion or Meaningful Content is Released.
In my experience mesmers are harder to kill with a power build than a condition build. If a mesmer doesn’t have any condition anti-skills they will go down fast, use the staff to kill their clones and epidemic works as well.
The trick is to have the mesmer tagged since the battle begins, this way you are putting the conditions on the right one at all times. only stealth breaks tag so when this happens you can go DS or any protective skills you have while the mesmer comes out of stealth. It’s very easy to tell which the mesmer is after a while, of course it takes practice. There’s a certain animation that tells you a player is coming out of stealth and with time you won’t miss it. When you finally know which the mesmer is just call target again and continue.
We have more condition counters than they do so a condition mesmer is also not a big deal, only problem is Moa bird then it’s just a matter of if you’re fighting a good mesmer or not.
Easy to kill them when they are down after you know how their downstate works, usually when you start your finishing move the mesmer will dissapear and a target will spawn instead, at this point cancel your move, 1-2 secs later the real mesmer will appear with a big red arrow under him. Finish him as his fake clone skill is now on cd.

Moa is the only skill that counters everything and can’t be countered.
The purpose of Moa should be to disable a player for 10 seconds, not disable a player for 10 seconds with a high chance to burst him down while he’s defenseless without the ability to use break stuns when stunned as a Moa. Players should be immune to damage as a Moa, this change alone would make the skill worth its purpose.

I am interestd in minions I think they could be fun and make a nice build, my problem with them is of course that they have broken AI and they don’t really siphon health to you so that trait is not working.
My second problem is the way they look, they just don’t cut it for me, specially the bone minion/ heal minion / and the flesh golem doesn’t look that intimidating at all unlike the GW1 which looked awesome.

Necros actually have plenty of stunbreaks, HB rarely works on me, when using a deathshroud build I have 3 stunbreaks on me which are spectral armor, spectral walk and plague signet. I wasn’t using signet but dam rangers always be stacking me with bleeds so I figure I’d send them back to them.
+ The DS line has a spectral armor at 50% health, I believe this stunbreaks.
And you can death shroud while stunned and fear your enemy which is a nice save unless they bring stability, then you want to hope you have enough life force to tank the hit until you are unstunned.
Using spectral walk, spectral armor and plague signet is pretty bad utility bar unless you are spec’d for 1v1 only.
Not everyone specs for conditions/wells. I use a power/death shrould build. I’ve done up to 5k damage to light armor classes from a single life blast and usually finish in the top 2 in games with my team winning. Don’t judge the way I use my skills without knowing why I use them and how they aid my build and my team.
finishing “top” means absolutely nothing except you weren’t bunkering and tagged people before they died.
I’m assuming you are just a pug spvper, in which case stick with the 1v1, zero team support, utility bar.
Nah, full seer/armaggedon sets here. I do play the condition/well build. Corrupt boon/signet/epidemic utilities but it’s easily to get bored of. I guess some people just don’t understand that you can play different builds and also be a powerhouse as a necro when you want which is also pretty fun.

lol so your answer is to use an even more op ability to counter it? And what counters moa? What if your the one moa’ed and than charged by a 100b warrior? No stun breaker for you.
Problem there is Moa, which is a skill that indeed needs some tweaking at least allowing stunbreaks and not overriding other elites. Moa is a skill that counters everything and can’t be countered.

Yeah pretty annoying that there isn’t a finish him command underwater then you have people going to get air and jumping out of the water while in down state it’s pretty dumb, then the guy you took 20 secs to kill a while ago comes back and the fight for the ruins start over again, while the sharks start respawning lol it’s chaos but sucks when you’re trying to actually win the game.

I’d rather have the staff have minion skills and kitten than how it currently is, I mean you do put marks on the ground I would think minions would come out of them, that would be way cooler than what is currently is, the more I play the necro the less I like the staff, just doesn’t feel that useful unless a cond build and even then it’s debatable we all mostly use scepter/dagger and just have the staff because the few added conditions but they arent that awesome or last long enough.

If you think about it necromancer is a melee class, with 2 close range weapons, 1 mid range and 1 long range. Scepter and Staff DPS damage is a joke and mainly use as condition dealers. But Axe and Dagger damage is pretty weak and other classes can do melee MUCH better than the Necro.
This in my opinion is a flaw, for a light class and a supposedly caster class we need to be able to deal damage from a distance to make up for our lack of burst.

u know what… i dont even care. the op does not even sound like a mesmer to me. idk how many times it has to be stated tw > moa infact tw> you. i never learned moa in pve and i dont think id ever use it in pvp unless i wanted to be a useless troll. in anycase go ahead and nerf it, i wouldnt care because i dont use it. infact as somone stated id rather have an elite that focused on illusions, kitten make me feel like queen jennah for a couple seconds.
ur QQing because you failed to evade a longkitten cc. u might as well QQ when a warrior lands a 100b combo on you. however im sure a warrior would be upset at 100b nerf. as i said multiple times i personally don’t care, and i doubt any good mesmers do.. to me i only have one elite. time warp.
also another reason i think you dont know what your talking about OP, you were asked what you feel about time wrap and you replied “I think it’s an awesome skill and I don’t mind it one bit, you can stunbreak from it, move out of the way and the rest of your skills are still available so it balances out.” ………………. umm how exactly does stunbreak save you from time wrap? or how does moving out of the way save you? u mean u are unable to skill while under it? seems like a case study on your toon or you do not even know what time wrap is.
Ok so saying you never learned moa discredits your reply, now we can move on.
I never QQ when warriors land 100 blades on me, because it rarely happens, I simply stunbreak or use a stun on him. Can’t see why people don’t understand the difference even after 2 pages of discussion.
Saying you only have one elite skill means you still haven’t mastered the class, how can you call yourself a true mesmer then? You always bring Time Warp even when defending a capture point? What a tool.
If you don’t understand how stunbreaks work or how moving out of the time warp field helps then I have no help for you.
