Warrior: Mace and Shield problems.

- Counterblock: When you click the key, the block does not react fast enough, it takes
like half a second before he raises the mace to block an incoming attack, usually it is far
too late then. It would make the mace a lot better if it could initiate block faster.

- Shield Bash: When you leap at the target, you just stand there hugging the target for
half a second, before the animation stops and the bash connects and hits. This makes
it incredibly easy to dodge this attack, and I doubt it was intended, it looks silly as well
to hover in the air with the shield raised while you wait for the skill to finally connect.

I thought I mentioned this because the latest patch notes indicated an intention to
have the mace become a viable warrior weapon, and many people use shield along
with it.

The popular pets got nerfed the hardest though.

But yeah I don’t understand why they nerfed pets at all, what could be the reason?

Ranger damage is already “balanced” around pet damage, so why would they want
to nerf pet damage? It’s not like rangers were doing too much damage.

It seems they just looked at which pets were used almost exclusively, and then nerfed
those pets into the ground to try and get rangers to use other pets as well. They didn’t
want to upgrade useless pets because of “power creep”.

Reminds me of the crossfire nerf, so people wouldn’t “spam auto attack” so much. I did
not know what I was reading when they used the term “spam” in relation to crossfire,
considering it is the only shortbow skill that does some damage.

I think the way evade works now, is one of the most perfect mechanics of the game,
please don’t change it. Evade by default should cause ALL skills the miss, no exception.

I think having skills go through block, was bad enough. It should’ve never happened,
but making skills hit through evade, would make matters even worse.

I think it’s not about just adrenaline, it’s mostly about how lackluster the Discipline
trait bonus is. Giving a 3% damage bonus on burst skills, is just unacceptable, as all
other professions get a worthwhile bonus in their profession trait line.

Someone suggested to give +2% chance to give a strike of adrenaline per hit. So if you
place 30 points into Discipline, each hit gives you a 60% chance to grant one extra
strike of adrenaline. I think that is the only solution I can think of or have heard of so
far. I think 2% is perfect, as 1% would be too low a bonus again, and just as useless. It
is so that you’d only get 30% chance for an extra strike in most builds anyway. Most
people do not place 30 points in Discipline for any reason, they place 15 for faster
weapon swapping.

Many combo fields are really weak with solo or small groups of players, if you tone
them down even further just so massive zergs aren’t too strong, they’ll be completely
useless in spvp and tpvp and anything but wvw zergs.

I really don’t think wvw zergs should be any consideration what so ever in skill balance.

The opponent can zerg too, so all you do is slow down the time one zerg needs to kill
another. If they win with the combo fields, they’ll win without them as well, so really I
don’t see the point in considering zergs when addressing skills and mechanics.

Combos are an important part of the game, if anything they should be toned up, the
might buffing with blast finishers in fire fields seems fine, but some combos are far too
weak. Giving one second of retaliation or two seconds of fire shield really isn’t very
useful. In zergs it may be different, but considering zergs in skill balance is pointless.

The Longbow is already very useful in WvW, adding these changes would make it quite OP.

Not all weapons are supposed to be useful for all builds. That’s one of the points of different weapon sets.

There is more to GW2 than shooting arrows from a wall in WvW though. And most
warriors use a rifle even for that. Since kill shot will take down most wounded players
in one hit. You say longbow is good for wvw, I say rifle is even better for wvw, and rifle
is better for all other content as well.

The rifle is just far better, it is even able to strike with (piercing) aoe attacks, which is
meant to be the bow’s niche.

The only reason I don’t use it, is because I just don’t like guns, and I know most warriors
who use the longbow over the rifle, which aren’t many, do this for the same reason.

Warrior: Stronger Bowstrings.

Zsymon.8457

I’m not saying the longbow is useless or a bad weapon, I only ever run with longbow
and axe/warhorn (as sylvari it is cool roleplay too), but I think it is obvious that the rifle
is just more powerful, has better traits, and far more warriors run with rifle than with
the longbow. I’m not really saying to bring the weapon longbow up to par with rifle, I’m
saying to bring the longbow traits up to par with the rifle trait.

We get one trait to make longbow range the same as the rifle range, and one trait to
get +10% damage on burning targets, which is a tier 2 trait, where far better traits can
be found, such as shout cooldown trait or warhorn trait.

My suggestion is to either make the stronger bowstrings trait a bit better in tier 1, or
make it significantly better in tier 2. If you make the base range of longbow 1200, as it
really should be anyway, it is a longbow after all, then you get more options for trait
changes.

Warrior: Stronger Bowstrings.

Zsymon.8457

Burning Arrows trait moved to tier 1, it is just too bad to be tier 2.

Stronger Bowstrings moved to tier 2, and renamed to Exploding Arrows, the base
range of longbow becomes 1200 (makes no sense for a LONGbow to have such short
range), and the trait now gives 20% skill cool down, as well as give Dual Shot a small
explosion radius so the auto attack can hit multiple targets if they are close to each
other.

Though I would accept any change at all to make the longbow on par with the rifle.
I think the rifle has far more utility and use due to its high damage, the longbow needs
to be improved to become just as good as the rifle.

No matter what you say about the longbow, good for aeo or whatever, warriors use
the rifle FAR more often than the longbow, and this makes it obvious it is a weapon
that is better than longbow, AND the rifle has far better traits than the longbow. You
get +50% to the bleed duration, you get 20% skill cool down and you get piercing,
all with a base range of 1200.

Imo the longbow should be useful for power builds as well as for condition builds, just
like the rifle.

Thieves cannot burst anyone down if they have at least some toughness, thieves were
already nerfed quite severely. If a thief cannot burst down a squishy character without
any vitality or toughness, then what are they supposed to do? To get a lot of damage,
a thief will be in berserker gear, with 10K hp and no toughness, he will die faster than
you will if you get the jump, or if you react fast enough to their jump.

Berserker thief is about reaction, if you react to their assault then you win, if you act all
surprised when they jump you and you let them beat on you for five seconds, then yes
they will burst you down.

I doubt though that many thieves still choose the berserker backstab builds, it is not
nearly as good now against anyone but new players. Thieves are better off going
pistol/dagger or sword/dagger, or dagger/pistol, while giving themselves toughness
and maybe some vitality.

Personally, with almost any profession I play, I go with knight gear or precision-knight
gear, and carrion or rabid when using a condition build, never rampager.

I do hope main hand and off hand axe gets some love.

Especially the second mainhand axe skill is lackluster, and is only useful for stacking
vulnerability along with offhand mace. I never, ever use axe 2..

I love my axe/warhorn + longbow sylvari warden, but I really wish they’d improve
axe 2. It does less damage than a single normal hit from the auto attack, and is far too
short to be much use as a whirl finisher.

I’d love for it to be a parry with counter attack, or a 1/4 second daze, just to interrupt
an enemy charge up. Or maybe a 1/2 second short knockdown uppercut.

I’d pick a sword instead, but the damage is way, way lower and no sword traits I can
reach with my build.

But to be honest I never tried sword, is there any way for sword to be useful as main
damage source with power/precision/critdamage?

It would be better if they changed the focus to a bracer, something is that wrapped

the focuses that aren’t huge weird constructs, have weird colors like pink or bright

I really do hope the devs consider a hide option.. I like my guardian with sword/focus,

Guardian: Powerful Blades Trait.

Zsymon.8457

I would very much like the “Powerful Blades” trait to be made useful and on par with
other weapon traits.

Right now it gives 5% damage bonus to sword and spear, if you compare this with the
other second tier weapon traits across professions, it is just really, really bad.

My suggestion is:

Powerful Blades: Reduces the cooldown of sword skills by 20%, and increases the
damage of sword and spear skills by 5%.

This would make it a little more on par with the warrior “Forceful Greatsword” trait, as
well as with other similar second tier weapon traits across professions.

The focus has no animations for any profession, often your character is holding

I don’t know much about coding for a game like this, but it should be possible to
allow an offhand hide checkbox if the character is holding a focus.

I did have ranger characters before, this is just the first time I noticed this. Please don’t

I tested on about eight different enemies, damage was always 7 or 8, while the tool tip
stated 34.

If you don’t believe me, make a lvl1 ranger and test it at the enemies right at the start.
Hit “K” to check the pet tool tip and compare it to the actual damage it does.

I also noticed how every time I level up, the damage shown by the tooltip, goes down,
even though my pet stats go up.

First it said 36, then 34, then 30, now 24.

Most likely it is some kind of tool tip bug at low levels I guess. I doubt the damage itself
is broken.

Warhorn or Shield?

in Warrior

Posted by: Zsymon.8457

I love the warhorn because it gives me more ways to help team mates, as well as
permanent swiftness.

Turning conditions into boons is just so nice, plus you get free from immob and
cripple and chilled in a guaranteed way. All of that aoe.

With shield it’s harder to be of use for others.

But I never think in solo, I always consider what I can do for others without losing
the ability to hold my own.

Warhorn + runes of soldier with two shouts, and maybe one banner, is nice support
and you don’t have to sacrifice too much solo efficiency. I also use a longbow, which
gives me more ways to support my friends by giving might and placing aoe pressure.

Sylvari with an axe, warhorn and longbow, gives you a very cool warden character. I
also got the Rox’s Quiver set, which makes me look very cool as well.

I really don’t like the idea of having three weapon sets.. I think it would be overpowered
as well as very clunky to use. I love the idea in the OP though to have more than one

I think having brawn give +2% chance to get an adrenaline strike is also perfect.

Remove the cool down on Adrenalin Skills.

in Warrior

Zsymon.8457

Why exactly is it that warriors are so bad at solo’ing?

I haven’t got the experience to comment with any weight, but so far I seem to have
enough mobility, damage resistance, condition removal and damage output to hold
my own.

Permanent swiftness, near permanent 5 might, near permanent fury, 10 conditions
to be removed if I exhaust all my condition removal cooldowns, which I can increase
to 14 if I wanted to, and with lyssa you get another total condition wipe if you want
to, on 42 seconds cooldown when traited, and the best thing is that much of that
removal is aeo.

Our ranged options are quite nice, even if you use the bow with a power/prec build,
I’m just not seeing why we are such a bad profession.

For roamers I would suggest that sword/board + hammer build with the P/T/Critdmg
gear. No precision but we get a trait to put crit chance to 50% against stunned victims.
The sword lets you jump around and reach places other people can’t, while hammer
comes down with 4K crits consistently due to +109% crit damage. With some 3200
armor and plenty of condition removal, along with endure pain, shield block, you’re
quite durable.

I think the most urgent change warriors need, is having our discipline trait bonus

it is really about time they complete the change and turn the bonus into a useful

All professions gain something by investing into their profession specific trait line,
except warriors, who get nothing at all. This is something that needs to change, and
I hope they change it in the next major balance patch, because it is long overdue.

Elementalist, Dragon's Claw Efficiency.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Zsymon.8457

Zsymon.8457

The efficiency of this skill is unsufficient, many times only one of the bolts will hit the
target, cutting damage by 66%. With our horrible health and armor we shouldn’t have
to face hug our target just to be able to hit it.

My suggestion is to give each of the bolts a small aoe blast. So that at range 300 they
are still able to fully hit a target, and this gives the elementalist some small but much
needed leveling improvement, since we’ll be able to hit two or three enemies at once
then at full force with Dragon’s Claw, just like every other profession can do this too.

I do think this change is sorely needed, especially for all those newcomers who just get
rid of their elementalist, because they keep dying when trying to fight more than one
opponent. The staff can strike multiple opponents, but it doesn’t do enough damage
at all for leveling or farming.

Please consider this?

Thank you.

Gearing D/D Elementalist

in Elementalist

Posted by: Zsymon.8457

Zsymon.8457

I’ve been playing with a different set up recently. I would not advise this in sPvP where you definately need some precision gear/ sigil of energy/ maybe Arcane Blast to keep vigor up, but I’ve geared completely for Power -> Condition Damage -> Vitality. A lot of D/D elementalist seem to rely on their Fire Grab burst combo, but it is really unreliable in WvW with it’s short range and insanely high cooldown. The amount of condition damage you can pump out with Dragon’s breath and the typical churning earth/ teleport trick is pretty high. I use sigil of battle for might stacking and a +%5 damage. With the might stacking, your conditions slowly get more and more powerful the longer the fight goes on, so I just geared for “I know these skills are going to hit, so why not make them do the most damage I can?” It’s working nicely so far, but you’ll not see any amazing Fire Grab burst unless you use arcane power for some kind of instant gib(but if you did that, you’d be better off wearing beserker gear).

A solution to give you some added damage from precision, would be to use Carrion
weapons and armor, and Rampager jewls. If you like burning damage, then you also like
signet of fire, which increases your critical chance to something like 39%. You don’t got
any added critical damage, but a normal critical hit is still +50% damage.

If you have a lot of power, then even normal critical hits come down quite hard.

I am not sure of carrion jewels exist anyway.

With the right set up you can have several skills that ad 9000 burning damage. If
your opponent doesn’t cleanse the fire, then he will die. It may not be worth much
in spvp where people have condition removal, but in wvw it should be nice, and in
world pve it should be nice for leveling and farming too. You just apply the massive
burns while you avoid the enemy.

Dual sword + longbow looks very cool, but sadly it just isn’t very good. I tried it and
I just couldn’t do enough damage for it to be viable. We stack a ton of bleeds when
we are close and all skills are off cooldown, but it just gets cleansed away again, and
our bleed stacking is very slow when 4 and 5 are on cooldown, since our third auto
attack doesn’t cause bleed.

Condition builds are more for professions that can stack bleeds from a range, so they
can just kite around while they stack bleeds. In our case we get kited and we don’t get
to stack any bleeds at all, while we get killed.

Condition builds are something for necromancers, rangers and thieves.

This has probably been said before, but really I think it can’t be said enough, since
nothing is being done about this urgent matter.

Warriors get 3% damage increase on their burst abilities if they place 30 points into
the respective trait line. It used to be 30%, which in some rare cases turned out to be
overpowered.

This is just not acceptable.. please change this bonus because it is not fair in any way.

If the development team can’t come up with an inventive solution anytime soon, and
I agree it is not that easy to find something to replace it, at least have this trait bonus
lower the cooldown of burst abilities by 1% per point, up to a maximum of 30%.

Together with the tier 3 major trait for burst cooldown reduction, you would then
have a 50% cooldown reduction for burst skills. This would not be overpowered in any
way, as none of the burst skills are particularly powerful, and adrenaline must be raised
first as well, it would at least make the trait bonus somewhat useful.

Right now the bonus is 100% useless, so please change it sometime soon?

But at some point it would have to be changed to something proper, maybe a different
effect depending on what burst abilities are used.

-cry- and I thought I found a reasonably unknown build with axe/warhorn + longbow.

For me it is the best build, not because it allows me to stomp people, but because it
allows me to offer a lot of support both offensively and defensively to my group. I run
it with a soldier weapon and knight stats. 40% crit damage with the axe is enough
for me to not need berserker stats, and focus on toughness and precision instead.

I think this build has a lot of advantages over other builds. I found for most classes,
the builds that allow you to get +30% crit damage from your traits, are the best, as it
allows you to use knight stats. Getting knight stats +30% trait crit damage, seems
to work for all the professions (for me).

I don’t think soldier works because of the pitifully low precision, your crit damage is
worthless then, and the whole point of the high crit damage from traits is so you can
get a lot of toughness from knight stats.

But I do wish power/precision/vitality stats existed.. that would be even nicer.

I’m a bit amazed at how few builds use warhorn.. when traited it is one of the most
amazing weapons in the game.

The game isn’t all about killing and doing damage.. the amount of support a warrior
can give with a longbow/warhorn build is extremely nice. If you get your traits and
your stats right, you maintain single target burst damage and survivability. You also
get permanent swiftness/vigour/fury/might, greatly improved ressing capabilities,
and just a whole lot more fun than just focusing only on killing people.

I wouldn’t bother with healing shouts, it only heals 1.1K without clerics, and really I
don’t think cleric gear works for warrior regardless of what build they choose. Your
usefulness is just too limited then, being a healbot isn’t very warrior-like.

I think warrior, due to their well-balanced and intuitive traits, are best at hybrid builds.

I really hope we could get a reaction from a dev on this idea, or at least tell us why
it would (not) be a good idea from Anet’s point of view.

I really want to play together with my friends, but they just aren’t going to buy it if
they cannot try it out first. I would gift them a copy from my own pocket, but that
would be pointless if they start playing and don’t like the game, just to quit again &
waste my money.

In qwerty it is:

(full action bar)
M4 – M5 … Q – E – R … C … 1 – 2 – 3 – 4.

Best possible key binding for easy and intuitive playing, in my opinion.

Using the number keys for weapon skills, lowers your reaction speed and decreases
gameplay enjoyment. Utility skills have a long cool down, so the numbers are good
for those.

I can’t imagine not having a mouse with button 4 and button 5 on the inside.

rox’ quiver, rox’ bow, braham’s mace, braham’s shield

anyway….back on topic…this seems likely for me…

Rox’s Bow is a shortbow yes?

No. He used Barrage when i played. So it’s a longbow.

No, I just checked, it is a short bow.

If it were a long bow I would buy it right away.

If you convert your Rox’s quiver for use in pvp, can you still wear it in the normal pve
world then?
