sometimes it sucks when your team doesn’t know how to handle down states but it’s a big part of the tactical play in this game and it’s very rewarding to, say, walk into a teammate that is downed and about to get stomped just in time to turn it around somehow.

should you go for the kill? can you kill his aggressor before he bleeds out? should you go for the ress? can you (or your teammate) interrupt long enough an attempt? can you actually sustain the cleave if you try the rezz?

or on the other side: can they banner? can you interrupt it? can you interrupt the healers and go for the stomp or should you just cleave? is it safe to let the enemy bleed out while you focus on the rest of his team?

being able to do the right thing to manage downed players is key to gw2 pvp even if it sucks being on the wrong side of it from time to time.

i know playing late night night is kind of asking for trouble, but i’ve recently had on the very same match player from ESL and completely clueless rookies, it feels like the mmr swings way too wide. (i like playing at night because you get a chanche to play with the pros even if you aren’t but there a should be a limit?)

currently my guild can routinely wipe groups up to 3 times their size, when said group will only need to put down 1 million statics/lines and we won’t have any way to negate that it won’t be possible anymore.

stability stacking intensity just favors who can stack the most cc = the larger side.

31 match lost in a row is ridicolous lol, you really can’t blame that to the mmr system he probably isn’t too good to begin with, lost a few matches, got frustrated, tired and started sucking more and more.

best way to end a loss streak is to stop playing for half an hour and relax before you que again.

it doesn’t really apply to gw2 however, all the power creep we had was the introduction of ascended gear which is by no means mandatory (the stat increase is not that much) and doesn’t even affect spvp.

getting exotic (the baseline for good gear) in gw2 is LAUGHABLY easier than any other mmo out there and i would argue much easier than getting your runepages and runes up in LOL, a game which your video presents as a good example of healthy game design.

if anything we have seen plenty of nerfs.

the only “power creep” in gw2 was on an economic level, with the introduction of money from champion bags and dungeons that ramped up inflation a few orders of magnitude faster than it was before. i’m hard pressed to find it an actual issue however.

please, give us some context:

are we talking roaming? in that case condition builds are extremely strong in that scenario.

are we talking zerg fights? the only ones to run full zerk in those are necros and some snipers. those fights are also very different from what you think they look like.

are we talking… unorganised pug zerg fights? those are just a massive clusterkitten anyway and can be easily farmed by an organised group 4 times smaller.

explain in which scenario you seem to encounter only zerkers and i’m sure you’ll receive more accurate informations about the current state of the game in that situation.

warrior is ok, adrenaline decay timer is very frustrating. i only wish they’d make that at least a bit slower.

now if we really want to go into a discussion into what they -should- do with warrior that probably would spawn a very long thread about why is it not cool that warrior MUST take cleansing ire in pvp and how to explain people that warrior in pve isn’t what it was 1 year ago and they shouldn’t stack them… but i don’t think you grasp that much about warrior yet OP.

keep in mind whatever class you learn first will take the most time to learn, i’d say 100 games with your first class and progressively less for each new one.

(to get a good idea of the class strenghts and shortcomings, not to master it)

it only needs a better autoattack and maybe a shorter CD on rifle butt imho, or just a better autoattack.

skill 2-4 are boring but still useful (and guaranteed projectiles), skill 3 is a decent burst. killshot is also a lot nicer now with the reduced casting time.

always keep in mind warrior only needs to have a rifle in it’s hands for 5 seconds and the biggest weakness the rifle has (melee pressure) is countered by swapping. the only thing it really lacks is sustained pressure when skill 3 is on CD and that’s where the better autoattack would be a solution.

adding weakness to any of the rifle skills would also be a nice touch (possibly something like 4 sec on rifle 5).

rifle dps may be low but there aren’t many spec able to kill you 1v1 at range, most classes with better range damage are also several times squishier than the squishiest of warriors.

sword mainhand burst is a key ability in wvw and pvp (on the most popular warrior build at the time of this post), the extremely long immobilise is just that good.

if you’re looking for something with a more “power” feel you should try axe mainhand instead.

how would that be the case? shoutbow gets mostly ignored in teamfights, sure, it has a banner, but no pressure, inferior cc and no stability for stomps compared to the more traditional hambow.

shoutbow is 10x better as a side node fighter than a teamfighter.

i have somewhere between 500 and 600 ranked games as power necro and my experience with matchups goes like this:

thief: it’s a very binary situation, if you have high life force you should always defeat him, if you have no life force it’s going to be a really really tough match. you can kill a zerker thief in 2-3 hits anyway so you’re generally ahead. they still make up being much more mobile than you across the map.

warrior: warriors are necros natural predators, no matter the spec it’s always going to be tough, ironically enough shoutbows are one of the least sources of concern (due to low cc) but if we’re talking zerker warriors they usually win the 1v1.

guardian: another really tough matchup, the blocks and blinds can really screw you over and they -will- melt you in seconds when your DS is down, on the other hand a good well combo will end them really fast, doable but difficult.

ranger and mesmer: the match vs those 2 classes is very similar, they will kill you if you allow them to range you down but if you can get close and personal and manage to avoid their big bursts (shatter combo and knockbacks+rapidfire) they will go down really fast. easy overall if you can out-position them.

elementalist: zerker ele would probably be scepter/focus, they will kill you if they can get you by surprise (as they will any class really) but if you avoid their big CDs they won’t have much going for them. easy if you don’t get surprise-killed.

engineer: zerker engineer? that’s so rare i have really no opinion about it sorry.

other power necros: i’d like to say skill wins… but it’s usally the one with most life force at start that has the edge.

keep in mind:

A) this is my experience, others might differ
B) necro is a snow-bally class, the more lifeforce at start the easier the matchup becomes
C) this is from a 1v1 vs other zerkers only, ofc it differs a lot in 2v2 and up or vs tankier spec.

Ok, i main necro in pvp and wvw and raid every night with a well established wvw guild from a high tier EU server.

There is a LOT wrong with some suggestions here and a lot of misinformation:

1) biggest one: NEVER put celestial on a necro, just don’t do it, it sucks in every way conceivable. ESPECIALLY on a build that is supposed to be the burst damage of your zerg, it has really low damage unless you go crazy with might stacking. If you feel like you’re too squishy you could mix some cavalier in it (+toughness/power/ferocity) but don’t go full cavalier, otherwise zerker all the way. Don’t use vakyrie either, you don’t need any more HP than what you have, especially if you’re a veteran wvw player as you claim you’ll have guard stacks.

2) wurm in zerg fights? no comment. Use spectral walk/spectral armor if you want to run a stunbreak (and it’s not a bad idea).

3) 90% of the time you’ll be fine whitout stability, you just need to learn good positioning. You can swap Deathly Perception for Foot in the Grave if you feel like you really need it but it will hurt your “bomb” (place wells -> go DS for +50% crit). Or swap if you know you’re going to fight in some bad place like hills lord room.

4) nobody really wants a necro in it’s group because necro offers no boons, the good part is that you don’t really need any boon from others to do your thing. You don’t really benefit from guards in your party either because you generally don’t want to be IN your melee train but somewhere on the sides.

5) crit chanche is never high enough!

As far as runes go there’s more than a viable alternative. Pack can work but they are focused on precision and you don’t need more of that (with the trait you’ll be very easily between 90 and 100%). Strenght/Hoelbrak are fine but i’m not a fan of might duration on the necro. Vampirism or Melandru are good defensive alternatives. Either way runes are not too crucial here, if you’re on a budget i strongly suggest vampirism, not the highest damage option but a very safe one to learn the class.

Remember in battle the most important thing is DISCIPLINE, even in a pug group it’s important to listen to your commander. It is very likely if he’s good he’ll call for “bomb” or something, when he does that’s when you put down your wells, don’t just waste them randomly it’s best to spike when everyone else will try to, just trust your commander’s insight.

When your bomb is in CD or you’re waiting for it you can either harass the enemy train with staff auto attacks (long range, pierce and good damage, great for harass) or, even better, look out for out-of-position enemies and take them down with a few life blasts, you have the single target damage output of a thief if you don’t use silly celestial, put it to good use but be always careful not to get too far from your group.

Currently most organised guilds rely heavily on necro spike to actually break enemy ranks, if you can learn your role well you’ll always be an asset to your zerg.

rifle does not need it’s -damage- buffed of all things, the burst it can provide is high and it’s not like warrior’s need to commit to their swap for the full 10 seconds.

in high level play the only thing that keeps a power necro alive against stuff like thieves or mesmers is that you can pretty much kill them in 2 seconds or less if they make a wrong move, take the pressure away and you’re just a slightly longer to kill point sack.

Best option to PvE with is zerker sure, but you need quite some practice and/or a good group to surive with a zerker ele.

If you’re having troubles try getting some valkyrie armor, it’s sub-optimal yes, but it’s better than being dead and it’s close to zerker power levels (just the armor, not the whole gear)

if your rating manages to get above the average most matches become ok, you’ll start encountering a lot less truly incompetent players (everyone can have a bad day or play a spec he’s not too familiar with, but at least you don’t see people go and die to svanir)

i’m sure there’s a large influx of both new players and other returning due to HoT announcement and the short 75% sale on the game, it will hopefully settle itself in time.

while i can’t say it always work if you think you’re lower than you should be play some spec that can carry teamfights hard and still be mobile, run wherever your team is struggling and wipe the floor with the enemy. most of the times this will be enough to get your team ahead. don’t bother with “finesse” if you’re facing uneducated players (like playing a bunker guard: it’s useless if your team is too clueless to actually kill stuff while you support them)

pvp as a necromancer is fun and pretty good so long as you face opponents whitout very good coordination. the higher you rise and the more competitive the players become however the more the class shortcomings start to show, especially if you’re against a premade that knows pressuring the necro all the time is both important and easy (compared to most other classes).

i’m not saying there can’t be charr spellcasters but from the perspective of recent charr history they are definitely less of a thing compared to other races.

say you were a charr cub at a fahrar, on one hand everyone is so proud of the warmachines your society built, on the other no one trusts or like spellcasters too much, even if you were gifted would you rather get your hands of that nice rifle that is a charr great achievement or learn some stupid magic that your instructor doesn’t even like?

i say, lore wise, charr necros (casters overall) don’t really fit this era as much as the other races.

all races are setup to make sense as every profession:

asura may look technologic but they are really just scholars of magic and fit every “caster” profession easily

sylvary are themselves highly magical and necromancy fits well with their naturalistic theme, might be worth noting that one of the main characters in the story is a sylvary necromancer.

norn have a thing for ancestor spirits and the likes, a norn necromancers can do just fine

humans are possibly the most suited because, by lore, they have a god of necromancy and their necromancers are invested with funeral rites in society

the only one that in my opinion, lore wise, doesn’t fit too much is charr, while charr themselves can be very adept magic users the past few centuries of lore turned their society towards metal and gunpowder and they are in a civil war with the fire magic using faction of their society making them more likely to be engineers and warriors than necromancers (and especially elementalists)

it’s not a bad idea but how to select those players? especially considering how a low skill player (because of bad pc/connection/poor mechanical skills) might be on the other hand extremely knowledgeable and have great match awareness. The opposite cna also be true, a great player might have kitten-poor match understanding and carry teams with his mechanical goodness alone.
