I know anet staff can’t be the one to suggest it but get a VPN, it saved my gw2 gaming experience.
it’s (usually) not anet’s servers connection issues but some part of the route that leads there malfunctioning. in my case (and many other) a certain german node that decides to cut off gw2 packets during primetime.
if it’s not that try changing gw2 port: default one is used by p2p programs so that too could be throttled by your isp.
If you fix those 2 you should solve 99% dc issues not dependant on you or the servers.
i feel the problem with thieves is that they are very binary in how they are: either they melt your face or they fail hard at it, there is no middle ground.
that leaves them into an unfortunate situation: do you make thieves good for average players meaning they WILL be op in the hand of those few pros or do you make them balanced at top level meaning they will likely suck in the hands of anyone who isn’t a demigod (and has a kitten good connection)
imho they need some kind of rework more than they need a buff
isn’t entangle already plenty good anyway? i mean, the reasoning behind this buff would be “it matches the animation” not “it’s weak and needs it”? doesn’t sound like a solid ground for a buff.
i’m sure ranger has utilities that need much more love than entangle.
it’s REALLY cool that you’re taking time to look into this stuff justin, just be careful not to let the forum overwhelm you with requests :P
edit: however i guess if that happens is just sign hat everyone would like to see what his stats (such as mmr and predicted outcome) actually were in his matches.
what if those stats were disclosed to players delayed like, i don’t know, a week later so there can not reasonably be player shaming since you wouldn’t really be able to remember who was that one rookie in your team several days ago?
(edited by adozu.6398)
i run those 3 traits as well, i can’t count how many times those 3 seconds off DS cooldown saved my kitten
“those top thieves” love dueling because they are top thieves i would say but dueling isn’t really supposed to be the thief job.
kill whatever is easy to kill but a straight-on duel is a big risk, 1 bad move and a thief dies which leaves your team behind in manpower and possibly score.
tl:dr best way to support your team is to not take unnecessary risks
i think necromancer is great at carrying teams so long as the opposing team is not too well coordinated.
in a coordinated environment necro is often the first to be focused on (guess why, no stability/blocks/invulns and very dangerous if left unchecked) and if your team isn’t equally well beheaved and helps you out you aren’t going to carry much.
There’s actually a table for it somewhere, the number of points won/lost depends on:
a) the teams respective winning expectation (which appears to be based off mmr and party size)
b) how much score difference there was at the end of match (losing 0-500 will make you lose more than 400-500)
^this is from an official anet source even tho they don’t articualte on how the winning expectation is calculated exactly.
so basically if they have roughly the same number of games and win% but different points one of them won against teams considered stronger or with less score difference at the end of match when it lost (most likely a combination of both)
My apologies, still if you want to take out only the constructive parts i would still advise against not using a warhorn, mobility is key to rotating.
since patch i soloqued a few games in ranked and they all happened to be good games, only 1 blowout rest all whitin a 100 score difference at the end (1 with an epic comeback scenario). While my sample is small i feel like games at my MMR (whatever that is) are actually fairly well assorted.
the issue is probably a lot brighter in lower areas where rookies can meet the bare minimum mmr requirement and off-peak times (the matchup does bad stuff in off-peak times)
ok so it’s a meta powermancer with an uncommon weapon choiche, fear duration trait and nightmare runes. i would call it more of a personal tweak than a different build…
only thing i really dislike is no warhorn, mobility is key to pvp. other than that i guess it works about as well as any other slight variation of the meta build.
Besides, terrormancers usually pick the terror trait so i’m not sure how it qualifies as a terror necro.

it’s 100% viable as a roaming weapon in wvw paired with a GS possibly, anywhere else i wouldn’t bother.
you will get separate MMR based on which classes you play: that is a good thing because previously if you had a high mmr because you were very good at your main class you were pretty much forced into never trying out other classes (or you’d get into match tailored for your main and likely cause a loss for your team)
the byproduct is that switching character at match start now would “cheat” your class-specific mmr
alright so suggestions:
number 1, 2, 3 are functional, maybe give slightly higher damage to 1, like 5-10%
number 4 needs a lower casting time, vuln+100% finisher would be good if it had half the casting it has now or even shorter
number 5 could work more like ranger’s GS, it could block a hit and if succesful execute the knockback (or knock anyway on second press)
burst could use a reduced casting time BUT NOT MUCH, the skill hits like a truck when it happens to connect, it can’t be a free hit
i say that would make the rifle a plenty viable option, biggest rifle issue to me is how vulnerable it is when you’re pressed into melee but if it had a block that would be a non issue when paired with fast hands.
To be perfectly fair even if necro isn’t the best class for dunegoneering (possibly the worst) you could still run any dungeon with 5 necroes just fine.
Only groups where a necro shouldn’t come are those aiming for record-time speedruns. Regular dungeon farming a necro can fit in just fine, you’ll lose maybe what? 1 minute? 30 sec? over having another one of the “better” classes.
Those people that kick you because you are a necro are those that probably still think warrior is top dps and they need a guardian for reflection. Unless you are using condi gear, of course.
i would LOVE for rifle to be more viable but honestly they should reduce ranger’s range not give more classes the same ridicolous and anti-fun capacity to engage from totally absurd angles.
i que solo 95% of the time and run into obvious premades that leave my team little chanche to victory maybe 1 out of 5 matches at most. i fail to see the point many people are trying to make personally.
remember being form the US and over 18 are also requirements (18+ is easy, but living in the US? i’m going to assume many potential candidate don’t)
…In addition, all Guild Wars 2 Forum Specialists …must live in the USA and be age 18 or older, for legal reasons.
i thought i’d extract this from the post.
our combo field is of the best type, has great duration and it’s huge. Just having that one is better than every single combo finisher on… say, necromancers.
spectral armor is definitely mitigation, also punishes people spamming skills while it’s up to an extent so it might be what you are looking for.
as long as rampage doesn’t get 100% bonus damage lol, that would be ridicolous
i have to agree to something:
play for fun -> go unranked, especially now that they made it less of a mess than hotjoin was (i actually advocated for this more than once, great change)
play competitive and expect competition. that is to say play to WIN, not to “have fun”. people can get nasty when they compete, it’s human nature and will never go away.
and part of competition is to show off your results so i’m in favour of allowing others to see my rank/mmr/whatever during a ranked match
show mmr but don’t tell who does it belong to could be an option, like telling you total mmr for team A was <number> and for team B <number> but don’t tell which is A and which is B.
warrior does not need another heavy handed nerf such as CI not proccing on longbow as well, it’s already borderline crap in pvp now.
at least the original proposal tries to make other weapons better not just nerf LB even more (i say tries because cleansing only 1 condition always would drastically reduce warriors condition cleansing capability even if it would be more reliable)
i consider wvw pvp somewhat and that has giver food sinister and whatnot, pve sure, always go with as much duration as possible, my bad.
100% condi duration is not necessarily your best friend in pvp (we’re talkign pvp right?)
why?
VERY often your condis don’t run full duration and i’d rather have some extra damage (from more condi power) in the first X seconds than have my conditions last X+2 with a very good chanche they will be cleansed before that.
Italy, Venice, Fastweb
unplayable game from 18 to 22 (approx) every single day, lag, disconnects, freeze and all that
Far Shiver Peaks
+1
ps: this started around the september patch
pps: i ALSO have throttling on gw2 standard port, but switching to port 80 solves that
(edited by adozu.6398)
guys, really, the sample is still way too small to draw conclusions
“No one is talking about inappropriate character names so I’m not entirely sure what kind of point you’re trying to make bringing that up.”
2 posts above mine “Androlan.9487” makes mention of inappropiate names.
i have seen someone with points loss, but it’s like 1 every few pages.
oh now i see what you mean, you had 6 victories removed? looks real weird but still expected at such an early stage.
i’m more worried about how the new system will evaluate your performance… win/loss was a flawed metric but still an objective one. i doubt any system can really tell how good YOU did in a match compared to your teammates.
i might have done an awesome performance fighting 2 people off on my homepoint or their far the whole match not scoring kills while my team farmed the rest of them with superior numbers, will the new system aknowledge my game-changing performance or will just assume i did no kills so i sucked?
(edited by adozu.6398)
do consider we all have very few matches, old system allowed players with 2 wins 0 losses to score top 10 so it’s ok if the system only really “kicks in” after 100 games or so (pure speculation). Should see how it works after a while.
ps: they also said new leaderboard would start on 16th so probably this is just a test and is likely to be reset later on.
new leaderboard seems to be based off your “points” which you won’t get many of with only 2 matches.
how the system works atm is a mystery
sniping or not sniping sometimes the commander will bite the dust. have someone ready to take over on the fly for when it happens and you’ll solve the sniping issue as well.
i don’t know how it is on other servers but on mine when the commandr dies prematurely he calls for the tag swap in ts and another one is up in seconds. i’m sure every organised server/guild does that already.
to be honest this proposal sounds really silly, what next, make eles immune to arrowcarts because it’s hard to meteorshower those while you’re made into a porcupine?
of course, don’t get into a fight where the terrain gives them an advantage as you try to close the distance, rangers greatest asset is terrain.
maybe they went the way of job-o-tron, anet caught them and is making a back item out of em
devs do take action towards inappropiate names, actually sometimes they change names that are 100% fine by 99% people’s standard but i digress.
it’s not like “trolling became ok” it’s more about the fact you can’t really do anything about it, just block the person involved and report them for inappropiate name / verbal abuse / spamming whatever seems more appropiate (the report function is a bit limited)
anything else is just feeding the troll, if i was one id be having a world of fun reading this thread and possibly go troll someone in hotm, just saying.
tl:dr: trolls sucks, but anything more than block+report is going to make them troll more
you are CLEARLY not supposed to be able to go in there, the fact that you can is an oversight. you’re pretty much asking something along the lines of “hey, you forgot the keys in your car so it’s fine if i take it for a ride?”
maybe they won’t do anything but don’t delude yourself into thinking it’s ok.
if there is one troll trolling report them, the community is fine overall. to ask for more is utopic.
if you have any transform item on you (like the cauldron toy or a tonic) it will fix it, i’m not 100% sure but probably the transform elite should do the trick as well. still a bug but at least you can work around it somehow.
“valor … is the strongest thing ever or if it is the only thing guardians have to be viable and there is nothing else left to trait into. In turn making them a pigeon holed one trick pony with no build diversity.”
Ok so, guardian has to spend 6 points into valor and that kills build diversity. Nice. Want to talk about how warriors are forced to spend 3 in discipline, 4 in defense AND equip a longbow on swap to be anywhere near viable?
you can actually predict the outcome of most tdm matches depending on who got more GWEN on their side. Today i had:
mesmer/thief/thief/necro/engi
vs
elementalist/guardian/guardian/necro/engi
guess who won, i didn’t even need the ready up timer to run out to know it was going to be an unpleasant match for me (i was on the wrong side of it)
Rifle is useful in pve on a very few specific encounters yet i can’t think of any place where hammer would be (in pve).
i think anyone not having played warrior during the last year can’t fully understand how the class feels right now, it is a very good analysis we have here it would be nice if this got dev attention.
the warrior went from being “decent to good” in every area of the game to “good in some niche areas” but it’s hard to perceive it from outside.
pve the warrior just isn’t -good- anymore, 1 is a must for every team, 2 can work, 3 is a bad team and will be lacking in either dps or defensive utility badly.
pvp warrior is kind of a joke now, it’s barely competitive at all if you ask me, despite being my main i just feel like i perform more easily and better on my other classes.
wvw is possibly the area it performs best but i’m not sure a zerg would lose out much if you simply repleaced every warrior in your hammertrain with guardians.
this SEVERE trait dependency is a good deal responsible for it if you ask me.
but it’s so cute, it almost sounds like a kitty purring
only to be wasted by auto attacks that go as fast as normal rapid fire, so?
and good luck if you get caught in an immobilize or fear or knockback or whatever and don’t have/aren’t fast enough with stunbreaks/cleanses.
quickness is good the way it is.
Considering that same npc comes out of the fight badly roughed up i would just not consider him as the most qualified to give battle advices.
Now if he came out unscatched after telling you stupid things that would be a different thing entirely…
Bowbow best build after next balance patch, i called it.
