[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
Whirl on light combo field does in fact remove conditions, you have to be moving while you do it in an attempt to “catch” the cleansing bolts. After reading what you said I thought maybe he’s right and conditions dropping from me was from my trait and signet. However I removed both of those and fought a condi Thief in spvp real quick. I let him stack up some conditions and did symbol+ whirl and sure enough about 2 or so were removed, you just have to be moving while spinning. This also works if you whirl inside wall of reflection.
oh nice! didn’t know that. i only remember trying to use whirling combo on light fields to remove conditions from myself and asked aroundo n the forums and got the same answer. i’ll have to test this out. have you been able to replicate this pretty much no demand? since the bolts are sort of random as well.
i’ll check it out again and try to fit it in with what’ i’m trying to build. ; ))
ah, i’m just basing this all off Wiki at the moment. haven’t had time to go in-game to play much lately. i’ll have to take another look and test more anyways.
i wouldn’t say building up might stacks then switching it out is cheating in any sense. : )) but if you can pull off the empower+ weapon switch before you’re engaged and can’t swap, that’s the main issue.
if we had the ability to dye the flames, would you guys still complain? ; ))
okay, OP, i gotta hand it to you. i went home, feeling “inspired”, purchased 12 exotic GS’s and threw ‘em in 4 at a time. why 12? i figured, third time’s the charm right?
first forge, Skybringer. sweet! i’ve always wanted this. sort of.
second forge, sth sth Pearl sth sth. aww.
third forge. dun dun dun dun.. DAWN.
:DD
all i will say is, ha, 27k non-crit. O___o fun stuff lol
yea i was messing with a 20/30/20/0/0 build the other day for fun in WvW and sword / scepter hit so hard eevn with the autos. and you get relatievly high hit rates. it was pretty fun. i agree regarding the mace/torch/focus skills but definitely hard hitters nevertheless.
ah, if you have 72% with fury then intelligence is not needed and like you said, going for force will probs net you “highest numbers”. one of the strongest suits of the hammer is mighty blow since it is on such a short CD. though, the auto chain is argubly slower (not complaining though, i love my hammer). one of the reasons why i ran Hammer + Greatsword for so long as a weaponset. i do miss other utilities but when you get to land a MB followed up by a WW, it’s pretty hefty damage right there.
reading all this makes me want to go home and run some tests of my own just for fun too.
to add, just listing most if not all possibilities:
6. Run meditations if you no likey shouts – Smite Condition and Contemplation of Purity
7. Focus #4 into a bunch of peeps so it bizounces
8. Inscribed Removal if for some reason you’re running more than one or two Signets
9. Lyssa Runes + Renewed Focus
10. Generosity (or Purity, but might as well go Gen) sigils
11. Not condition cleansing but you can try to run Melandru Runes for condition duration % reduction.
@Zkarlet – iirc, Torch 5 and whirl combo on light fiedds don’t cleanse conditions off yourself, only your allies that they hit. but still useful if you’re allies around you obviously.
[added: and general note re: Purging Flames, supposedly it doesn’t remove one condition per pulse, but each time you enter it. so one on activation, another when you walk out and back in, rinse and repeat for the duration.]
okay, one small feedback.
stick with generosity sigils if you like them, but i would swap out sigil of battle for something like Force or Accuracy depending on if you want even more crit chance, or 5% damage, which is always nice and adds to DPS for sure.
reason being all sigils, including both on-swap and on-crit, share cooldowns . and both generosity and battle have a CD of 10s and 9s respectively. if generosity procs on GS and you swap, no battle proc. if you are in combat, you switch to sword, battle procs, so for the next 9 seconds, generosity won’t be able to proc.
when i try to mix and match sigils, i usually don’t mix and match on-swap and on-crit. especially if i am relying on my on-swap sigils, which from my point of perspective are controlled to a certain extent, for e.g. energy for an extra dodge or hydromancy to chill my enemies before i plan to land a big hit, etc etc.
@Kjeldoran – to each their own. we all have different styles of playing and have different opinions of what’s most effective. and precisely because i can put together a build right now to the very exact detail, repliacte it 4 times over, have Brutaly, foofad, yourself and myself all play it and it would all work out differently for us.
it’s good that you feel confident about your own build and abilities, but there is no reason to call out others and call them “useless” without really knowing them.
stunningstyles video he said he made was just for fun himself. and that’s what it was, it was fun to watch. no reason to put him down either with implications.
heh, i haven’t played PvP since the necro buffs but i do hear they are running rampant! XDD
what build are you usually running? to give the Guardian community a better idea of what we can do to help ya improve!
@Kelnis – ah, okay in that case, then of course, having at least 5 in Honor is a huge benefit.
yea i was thinking after i posted actually that 100 power might be more beneficial than the 10% crit damage. but like you said, you want crit chance for the extra damage to proc.
i ask about the hammer because if, again, if we’re trying to see the highest number you can crit, you can place sigil of intelligence on the hammer, set it up (burn, aegis, vuln stacks, might stacks, etc) with whichever weapon set, swap to hammer and hit #2. so won’t have to worry about crit chance as much for that one hit and can focus more on power / crit dmg%. just a thought ; ))
[added: also curious as to what the highest Shield of Wrath, Zealot’s Fire or Protector’s Strike can hit up to.. hmm.]
i know this is a game.. but if you look at the real world, not everyone that works hard becomes a legend. a lot of it comes with timing, luck, being in the right place at the right time, being born in the right time, the list goes on….
it comes down to what your perspective of legendary is, vs what ANet’s is, vs what everyone else’s is.
what i am trying to say is.. don’t let it get to you. don’t turn bitter. keep trying and when you DO get it, it will be that much more worth it.
i think we’ve all learned today, hopefully, that everyone has their own opinion, to each their own, boat floating and ship sinking. it is rather difficult to convince people otherwise when they are set in their mind. even more difficult to try to truly imagine yourself in other’s shoes. especially if they are Letoll’s tapdancin’ kicks.
that being said, remain ever classy, always lovely, T1 thread folk. more fights!
so how about them permanent finishers, eh? quite a few i’m looking forward to. and will defs want to use ’em on the field. >:DDD
Haha thanks!
I’ll be roaming with my girlfriend (she can use a Thief, a Mesmer, or a Warrior). So there’ll always be two of us roaming.
I really like the Greatsword and I feel like the Staff is needed in WvW for the Swiftness. The other weapon set I’d consider is the Hammer. I like using Greatsword and Hammer in tPvP but I feel like I lose so much mobility. Is Greatsword and Hammer viable in WvW?
Hmm… 13k health. I guess it is pretty small, eh? I figured that’s normal for Guardians since they have more sustain than Warriors (which have a naturally high health). Alright, I’ll definitely adjust it! Thanks.
I’ll also be getting Writ of Exaltation over Pure of Heart! (:
I’m trying to figure out which of the two can offer more. Rune of the Pack gives Might, Fury, and Swiftness for 5s BUT it also has a 10s cd whereas Rune of the Citadel give Fury for 30s but has a 60s cd. I figured I’m gonna’ be tanking a lot during fights anyways that my Rune of the Pack will be procing whenever it’s out of cooldown. But I’ll definitely check both out!
heh, nice. makes me happy to hear you two still roam together.
i used to run hammer and greatsword a lot (hammer is usually my weapon of choice but i mess around with everything). whenever using the hammer you do feel like you lose a BIT of it, but paired with Judge’s Internvetion is SO FUN. pre-cast any of #2, #3, #4 or #5 (the latter two being more popoular) for a giant hit out of nowhere, an almost guaranteed immob on the hammer since it can be hard to land, a knockback out of nowhere, or trap them in a bubble and have your way with ‘em. great for setting up AoE damage to a group. and i usually swap staff in and out for the swiftness symbol, then swap back right away to eitehr hammer or GS. makes it easier too sinc eboth are 2h. i often swap to staff when i’m using 1h and then i have to click through my inv to find my offhand lol.
but yes, hammer GS i feel is viable. and if your girlfriend runs Warrior for e.g. warhorn is always nice to have if she doesn’t mind running that. and you have two of the hardest hitters available on swap.
i saw the changes you made, which does put your health at a more comfortable level. ; )) though we start at the very bottom in terms of base health, in WvW, i’d say i’m more than comfortable with 14k, 15-16k could be a sweet spot. you still need to play your blinds, blocks, smart. which looking at your build, you have one blind from GS3 and it’s not like the port from the sword.
it’s a strong, sustainable build and you won’t hit lightly by any means. Packs is qutie decent and i see the procs enough throughuot a fight. and i really like ‘em. you bring up fair points as well and again if your girlfriend runs warr, depending on what builds, you’ll have plenty access to fury, etc. give it a shot first if you have ‘em already and then if you don’t like it, give citadel a shot. i know a few guards who swear by them.
and just for fun, this is a PvP vid, but i’ve brought the exact same build over to WvW and it’s fun jumping people, while retaining enough sustainability if your opponent survives your opening
Mace RHS Burst build
i feel like you might enjoy some of these as well. some vids are different builds from yours, while some are quite similar.
Amins Guardian WvW vids
doesn’t Sigil of Geomancy inflicts 3 stacks of bleeding for 7s? at least according to the wiki. i haven’t tested this in detail yet so will have to map it out. and if you have say at least 50% condition duration, that brings it to 10s. and with about 1k condi dmg, that’ll be about ~270 AoE/s, for 10s. until they cleanse it that is. [NOTE: assuming condition duration affects sigil procs. i needa do more hw! XDD]
although, i agree, with permeating wrath, you’re doing more than that already, though i felt it might be fun to augment that with another condition. it really isn’t much though with only 3 stacks. i will have to test this a bit more (and i’m a sucker for the animation when you swap lol)
also, you’re spot on regarding conditions on target vs targets being cleansed vs being able to keep up the conditions you DO want to keep on them. and i am bearing in mind more 1v1 situations while theorizing, since in a group setting, you have a lot more leeway and more variables.
i have been trying to figure out a way to stack might as well to increase condition damage in addition to boosting regular dmg. but it’s proven to be quite hard, namely trying to keep 30 in Virtues. XDD though Empower is definitely very strong and like you said foofad, if Staff #1 does count kitten hits right there, it’s worth taking for sure.
thanks for clearing that up, Harbinger ; ))
and that’s when we usually need toughness, so no qualms with that lol
[added: and oh, just more food for thought.. i’m betting it doesn’t work this way. but 5 Guardians, all running Strength in Numbers? lol probs doesn’t stack ://]
(edited by akamon.2769)
so given in combat, since in most cases, “allies” = self + 4 allies, can it be safely assumed that this trait works while solo as well and no other allies are near by?
heh, Amins 12k hits video is what i try to emulate ; )))
@Crapgame – i started my main as a Norn Guardian. i got rid of my arnger (one day i’ll bring him back!) and rolled an Asura Guardian for the very reasons of the animations XDD
@Kelnis – albeit in a controlled envrionment, good use of the class mechanics and cmobat gameplay to reach those numbers. in my eyes, that’s a feat for sure. looking forward to seeing your 30k hit. ; ))
if you’re wanting to hit higher numbers, why not put the 10 from Honor into Valor for slight increase in crit dmg or even into zeal for another 100 power? though if this is a build you use for prolonged play, then don’t mind me. : ))
have you ever tried using the hammer and see how might blow hits?
(edited by akamon.2769)
i would recommend buffing symbols too. larger for sure, maybe healing too.
if you’re using two two-handed weapons, i’d take two handed mastery too. it’s a nice trait to get your CDs faster.
i will say being caught with staff in 1v1 situations is not the best. but it’s not impossible, many factors depending. definitely shines anywhere from small group to zerging.
also, staff hitting through doors while defending with a high crit chance/high power build, there are bags to be had through the gate.
and like Wetpaw mentioned, stakitten both offensively and defensively – while running, set it in front of you so you stop enemies in their tracks, while taking towers, place in front of spawn to prevent enemy reinforcements or stop those who think they can cause a bit of chaos by jumping down, make them regret it, cut a zerg in half, hold a choke point and let your allies melt faces.. etc etc
staff 4 before fights. staff 2 hits pretty hard when it connects (make sure you use your focal point to aim where it shoots, simply targeting is not enough). staff 3 is self explanatory – when specced for symbols, they do good damage too and you get this on range. staff 1 is tag city.
it can be really fun : ))
oh, quick note – given your condition damage or duration is high enough, what do you guys thnik of using on-swap or on-crit sigils on weapons for other conditions? like foofad mentioend briefly i think once to use Sigil of Earth. i was experimenting the other day with doom and geomancy – which added bleed and poison to my arsenal.. wasn’t bad. not amazing, but wasn’t bad. given it’ll only be for a short bit, but you can in a sense, you get a slight chance of keeping burning up longer should your enemies use single condition cleanses.
if i’m not using those, then i’d probs use smoldering. but is that still bugged? forgot to check / test yesterday.
just a thought.
^^ grats and snap, i love your color scheme. looking good!
i came in here thinking it’s a thread praising the new dungeon, giving props to the dev teams, highlightnig a good group they had, being happy for the community and wanted to share my good experience with the dungeon as well.
guess i was wrong.
is ure do hope so!D i really ought to go back to my home instance, just to “check in”.
now i wouldn’t mind, with all that extra stuff we’re getting through each release, which is more or less, every 2 weeks now.. that we get an armor gallery in our home insatnce too. this has been brought up in the past before as well but might as well brign it up again ; )))
a place where we can store all our skins that we already own. or even a weapon rack say. so kind of like your bank, but in your home instance, for weapons and armor. and maybe you can even display certain sets, a la assassin’s creed 2.
and yes to the mini pets idea.
i say keep daily and monthly achievements. i don’t really undersatnd why people are asking this “balance”. and we don’t even know how the system is going to work yet.
nor do i see how the fact that you have a ton of points helps your case.
haha this is pretty ridiculous.
after viewing this thread, i wonder how many went back to test their luck with the mystic forge after vowing never to return again. XDDD
great direction and advancements in the thread! and grats on the sticky as well. good one. ; ))
i will say i’ve been dabbling with this more and find it to be quite fun with permeating wrath and like said, swapping for Absoluet resolution when you feel you need more condition removal.
i’m wanting to tinker with a healing + condition damage build though since i felt going for majority condi was not cutting it in WvW. there isn’t much survival to be had so i’m still working on this. definitely tough though and good points regarding vs -condition duration enemies.. but it’s good timing since i’ev been reworking to add more duration. ; ))
:DD i love your Warrior vids!
are you still mainly gonna be roaming with this build / class as well? with a meditations build, i feel the staff would be a secondary choice. it’s nice to have for the swiftness but what i like to do is when i am running frmo A to B, i’ll switch in staff, throw down symbol of swiftness then switch back to my regular weapon set.
i personally feel it’s not the best weapon in a 1v1 situation, rather, it works better when you’re in a small group or more. that being said, there are some that have found success with the staff even in small-scale or even roaming fights.
i will say that 13k health is definitely on the low end, but if you feel you can sustain enough then go for it. though you can easily fix that with a few gear swaps or maybe even with food, if you feel like you need to. or just use your dodges, blinds, blocks effectively. ; )))
the aegis removal heal i feel is rather underwhelming as well but i haven’t really tested it since the revamp, though mainly since you really only get aegis from your VoC (F3), i feel it might be more beneficial to take say Writ of Exaltation for larger symbols since you’re running GS and staff.
i quite like Rune of the Pack even in WvW. though many Guards don’t feel it’s the best choice, or the proc effect is too low. many will go with 5 Citadel + 1 ruby orb or sth along those lines for Fury procs (30s!) instead. : )) though personally i use Pack runes myself (and it matches this one particular build’s background story lolll)
i have a feeling you’ll have a lot of fun with Judge’s Intervention paired with Whirling Wrath, binding blades, etc do give the hammer a shot as well one of these days! hope this helped a bit.
: (( that makes me sad.
do you still enjoy the game on a different class?
=
on another note. Gift of Mastery left for my Rodgort! missing like.. 194 skillpoints, lol. what’s the best way to get ‘em?? i’m thinking either nonstop dungeon and WvW with my main Guard, or map complete and power (craft) level my necro.
Have you completed the new scavanger hunt yet? That one grants you 5 skill points when you complete it. Also, fractal is a great way to get them. fractals is great XP aswell as the fractal relics you can BUY skill points from one of the golems
Good luck!
not yet actually, but is hould be able to get that done fast thanks for the headsup. and i have thought about fractals. i have been meaning to get up to lvl 10 but might as well work my way up, and get the XP as well as trade for SPs.
thanks!D
still slowly trudging my way through ; )) all but is left are now SPs! lol
i keep trying to figure out what OS is. and it’s Obsidian Sanctum isn’t it? loll dangit.
i loved the Clocktower as well. camera was never an issue for me there, as a Norn. though.. the Humans running in the same instance as me would beg to differ.
Ah ty, that is a very helpful answer. As for the rest, I don’t leave things unfinished. I don’t care if the prize is a bag of dirt, i’ll always finish the quest
Then you fully understand that some bags of dirt aren’t made to be had until later
hahaha nice. and that my friends, is the answer to life. ; ))
@OP – i applaud your determination! hope you get it, one way or another.
Fridays for errone!!!
can’t imagine if i had gw2 back in my uni days. well, i could.. just less rock banding, more zerging. XDDD
this spicy italian sub makes reading this thread that much more fulfilling. omnomz.
@Dooms – ah, right. didn’t think of that. and then the forums would most likely implode.
@Evalana – gotta love 2 friday weeks! then does that mean you get two mondays though? : ((
no play time for me either couple last days.. soon i hope!
i played a 25/10/0/30/5 pre patch and was the most fun i had in quite some time. : ))
and as you test, some builds will work, some won’t but don’t be discouraged. when tryign new things, you’re bound to have to spend time and resources.
and might i add, stay away from the zerg at all costs if you feel bored there. ; )) had a long dragged out fight the other day with a thief and it was pretty darn exhilirating (sp?). even though i lost in the end : ((, and didn’t particularly “contribute” to the overall warfare of the Mists, it tested my ability to understand my class, and further, to understand the other classes mechanics, as well as the overall combat system. there’s nothing like being able to read your opponents move or figure out what they’re trying to do, and deny them of that.
poor Enraged Deep Song! XDD
why are people arguing over all berserker vs non-zerker? if this is fun for you, then don’t let me take out the fun.
with the new dungeon, i learned that i could actually kite when i needed to. yay.
one of these weeks, everyone should take work/school/IRL off (if we don’t already) and play against each other 24/7 with respect to your “timezones”. and see how that plays out. just. for. kicks.
had a day off yesterdayD so tuesday is the new monday for this week. bah, mondays.
hmm based on what we were given, though nothing hard “confirmed”. i want to say save them until SAB DOES return.
if the old weapon skins, indeed don’t return, i think that will drive up the price of the existing skins when SAB is back and there is more “hype” about the Super skins again. people who missed out the first time will fall in love with the new skins and want the old ones to complete a set, etc etc..
however, if for whatever reason, the old skins DO come back, then the skin prices will drop quite significantly i say.
that’s how i would read it at least. :PP
why all the hate and sarcasm? the OP was just sharing his story of how he did the dungeon THEIR way, as a group, and completed it.
i for one can’t wait to check out teh jumping puzzle.
i did take a peek at the existing videos, but that’s really cause i couldn’t wait and spoilers don’t really spoil the fun for me. : ))
the ones out there who do puzzles for fun, keep doing your thing. don’t let what others choose to do affect the way you view and hold the game. the game is YOURS.
though i will say, our playerbase gets pertty darn creative. and for some peolpe, all they want is to get to the end, they don’t care how. for some, the fun might be IN figuring out how to port people frmo beginning to end. : ))
anecdotal evidence = / = facts.
extremely lucky nonetheless. : )) grats. put ’em to good use.
heh, this is pretty funny. i actually just put together a set for messing around with Permeating Wrath. given i haven’t been in WvW yet (will be soon tonight hopefully), it’s been working out so far. however, i haven’t detailed all the specs yet and have been deciding between condition dmg, or condition duration. since i feel this does largely depend on if you’re fighting alone most of the time, with a group and if they have access to burning or not, and if in a large group.
re: condition removal. true, they can get rid of burning with one cleanse, but remember as Guardians we have more than a handful of ways for applications and we can do it fast too. and we don’t have to waste CDs to apply burning as well. so at least, in a 1v1, etc, watch their conditions, watch their cleanses, and keep pressuring.
just a quick note re: Staff and VoJ. i read somewhere, most likely Wiki saying that one attack that hits multiple enemies won’t count kitten hits, but rather 1 hit. which is what i assume the Staff #1 is. so it’s worth testing though. if not, symbol of swiftness traited larger / longer can do the trick, similar to the hammer mentioned.
will keep experimenting and thanks for the thread. good to see some form of organized thought and numbers. : ))
yea, that’s a good tip foofad. and never dodgeroll through it, lol. i occasionally dodgeroll cause it gives the illusion you’re covering the same ground faster, and if you dodgeroll through a swiftness symbol, you can actually miss the tick.
if i have swiftness from other sources or retreat and save yourselves, etc, always wait until swiftness is up / gone before i cast SoS again.
@Lord Trejgon, if by shouter you mean shouts, then i’d imagine at least 10 in Honor would be beneficial for Superior Aria. i might even go full 20 into Honor as well. but it will depend on what’s the goal of your build : ))
hey, quick question – so CMF, you mentioned 10% damage modifiers (fw, rp, etc etc) only affects direct damage? i.e. condition based damage doesn’t get affected at all?
i almost want to think burning is hard to build for. and not even just from a damage point of view. and too many variables. if you spec for burn damage and focus on constant aplpication, it’s doable. but if someone comes along with higher burn damage then you, it’s a “waste”. at the same time, if you spec for burn duration, with less application and damage, it’s there to supplement your normal attacks, but then they get cleansed easily. just some thoughts..
RL is just another game. Go kill it and once the dust settles, you might find some enjoyment again.
G’l man!
heh, i like this.
traits Shielded Mind, Indomitable Courage and pops Virture of Courage
stability and stun breaks for errone!
you definitely can’t be using Zeaous Blade as a “main” heal (other than 6). it will still offer sustain though.
one thing i’d like to think how it helps us Guards is to learn to play more aggressively and be on the proactive offense. you NEED to hit your targets to get heals. and the more targets you hit with one attack the better. i think it’s good training. being aggressive vs beign passive i want to say is one of the main factors of a win or lose in any given battle.
of course, don’t jump in a large crowd blindly going “WHIIRLLING WRAAAA-” downed. play smart, but aggressively smart. smartly aggressive. caus eif you don’t get your hits in, you don’t get your heals.
which at the end of the day, will only supplement and give you some breathing room.
Still not worth it imo for virtues, too much stat/damage trait loss for my tastes. Not saying the traitline is weak, but the only thing I want out of it is AoE justice procs which require way too many points.
This is exactly why they need to add/buff more damage boosting options in Virtues such as Power of the Virtuous = 2% and capless instead of 1% with a cap of 9%
that would entice more people to go deep into Virtues. which imo is a greatline, but it’s quite niche if i may say so, though it focuses on the CORE of the Guardian class.
@Bash – i’ve been tinkering with a build that aims for the AoE burn procs. i do feel it’s not Grandmaster trait worthy.. but i might just be too greedy. lol. i was also “oh it burns the area around you as well, not your target..” but then again i thought when am i ever tryign to not be near my target?
i wouldn’t mind trying out a spirit weapon build again for fun in PvE. though i feel in PvP they still get taken down too fast. or WvW rather in big fights.
though i guess they were always more 1v1+ fitted? tbh, not very experienced with them. so all buffs / boons work on them? does regen work on them too?
Could someone who has crafted the gift of twilight help me? I am nearly done with the gift of metal, which is the last thing remaining for the gift of twilight, but I am not sure which sigil to use. Leeching or blood? On gw2 wiki it says blood and other places it says leeching. And if you look at twilight, it has a superior sigil of leeching. I am really confused.
bumping this so someone can help Seigfried! unless if you’ve gotten your answer already. : ))
GOOD LUCK almost there!
=
on another note. Gift of Mastery left for my Rodgort! missing like.. 194 skillpoints, lol. what’s the best way to get ‘em?? i’m thinking either nonstop dungeon and WvW with my main Guard, or map complete and power (craft) level my necro.
