[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
whew, that was a long read.
in case this hasn’t been highlighted enough, Guardian’s base HP is moer than fine. you can easily find tons of WvW Guardian videos online.. many of which they jump into fights, or get jumped on, and 10, even 15 seconds in, and they haven’t lost a drip of health. if they did, they healed it back up right away. that, is what our class is capable of, and having a bit more HP may or may not make a difference at all.
there are a lot of builds out there. this is crazy, but, will we ever have a “BEST BUILD”? no, we definitely won’t. i can put together a build on buildcraft or gw2skills to the T, and give it out to 10 different players, i will guarantee you they will ALL perform differently. point being, there is no one build that works best. just cause one of you have a build you immensely enjoy and believe to be the best, does not negate the fact that there are a TON of people out there playing a variety of builds and are, believe it or not, being more successful at it than you are.
i appreciate all the Guardians in here who were helpful and offering each other different perspectives. it’s what builds a community. of course, the Guardian is not perfect. are each and every single face behind the monitors here perfect? no of course not. if there IS a perfect build, why is not everyone running the same darn thing? Clone Wars is that away, in a galaxy far far away… but now i digress.
OP, you’ve created a monster with this thread. maybe a little one, but a monster nonetheless. ; )) glad in the end it seemed you were able to find peace and experiment with what the Guardian has to offer at the moment. you mentioned you were new. well i can sure as hell bet that the more you play, the more you will learn and gain and love this class even more.
and i must add.. it took me 2 full pages of reading before i realized what “bez” meant. XDD well done, brain.
lol. scepter can be so strong though!!
looking forward to seeing your guides.
i loooove the mace. my single hand weapon preference for the Guardian (excl. offhands): mace >> scepter >> sword. mace and scepter are close.
if you have no problems surviving, try a DPS oriented build. majority of gear berserkers, a x/30/30/x/x build and you can destroy faces in PvE, WvW. PvP too but since you’re going for a legendary..
i run mace/torch + scepter/focus. try timing shield of wrath (focus 5) and protector’s strike (mace 3) for some explosive AoE damage. of course, depending on your targets, i wakittenting up to 3-4k with the mace’s final hit. i’ve seen videos of protector’s strike hitting up to 9k+. this is all WvW so might be different ni PvE but definitely very fun. and with innate defensive capabilities of the mace, it makes for fun times.
and in regards to landing hits with the mace.. we have a ton of knockdowns, knockback into walls, immobilizes, of many that are instant.. teleports, binds and pulls, wardings of various sorts. plus, the mace can be played very aggressively. definitely works ni dungeons or PvE as well. not a soft hitter by any chance.
i actually had the same question before i did it. but i was lazy so i went in with a DPS build (i.e. low armor, low HP), but it didn’t even end up mattering.
like Sil just, just pick up the mine detector.. and then if you must, maybe you can trait 5 in radiance and 5 in virtues.. can’t think of anything else that you’d really need. but he really won’t do too much damage to you. just watch out for the traps and disarm them.
for utilities, i brought stand your ground, retreat, and save yourselves for the stun breaks and blocks and some swiftness.
Silven, while we wait for the guide to be uploaded.. (20 hrs??? heh, based on your post time, it should be about now!), just wanted to drop in here and add that i am LOVING the mace torch scepter focus RHS build. i’ve always preferred the mace >> sword. absolutely loving it. : )) the shield AoE crits are to die for.
i had the privilege of stepping back into WvW again yesterday and can i just say, it was extremely fun. played during SEA/Oceanic or what have you and was mainly roaming and in small groups of other roamers… had some fun fights between SoS and TC alike.
SoS, i didn’t get to play against as much. but hopefully will get to in the week to come. TC, have always loved playing against you guys. you always keep coming up with new fun approaches to WvW. lot of respect for you all.
aaaaaaaaand can we please please please do a doly parade at a time where i can make it too? : DDDDD i have work at 8pm server time (since me from HK).
[added: really appreciate all the positivity in here. regardless if from TC, SoS or SoR. keep it up you folk. there are good fights to be had regardless of numbers. we can make it what we will. YOU can make it what you will. don’t let the “state of the game” or “numbers” get you down. stay positive and be life-giving. i REALLY raelly think it makes a difference.. and not just for the sake of your gaming experience.
D and don’t get me wrong, as lovey dovey and pacificist, idealist, whatever you wanna call it as that sounds… i thirst for competition and a good fight. ROOOOOAR.]
(edited by akamon.2769)
welcome, OP, and that is all. : ))
hope you like it here. and don’t forget to stay in touch with your old friends!
regardless of server, we are all in the same world, that. is. TYRIAAAAAAAAAAAAA.
hah, nothing like a little golf on the field.
i especially loved how after each punt, even if there were like 20 people still fighting around you, you’d have to walk to to the edge of the cliff.. JUUUSUT to make sure they’re dead flat. lol XDDD
hmm is it just me, but i don’t think everything needs to be 120% fair? or on the same level? might as well say goodbye to diversity, and yes, i mean in a visual sense…
the Asura are a tiny race, so they should be small. if gw2 was real, the Asura would have this so-called advantage as well.. or.. i guess in PvP, we don’t care about lore. ://
and if you’re SUPER serious, you can roll an asura, learn all their moves and animations so it’s like second nature to you. seeing or playnig as one will definitely imprint that visual memory into your head. know your enemy, right? ; ))
mind sharing your “scepter build”, stunning?
i find i actually kill fastest, on average across varying situations, with the scepter.
if by paper you mean a 20,000lbs truck, then yes. ; ))
well said. : ))
that’s what i did. there’s so much you can do. and sometimes, the added power is all i wanted and it’s working amazingly for me.
at times, i feel there are too many builds out there. we can argue all day about how effective one build is against another, but, to me, in the end, it’s really all about how you feel and enjoy playing your builds.
and of course, doing damage and not dying is all a part of that. but traits / builds / minmaxes are the be all end all in gw2.
NICE. been looking forward to this. ; ))
bed time now, but will take a closer look soon enough.
before i jet, i highly recommend gw2skills.net. they’ve updated it so you can use it for PvP, WvW/PvE. i really like it and most of the stuff afaik is pretty up-to-date. gw2buildcraft was kind of outdated on multiple fronts, so maybe that’s why it’s down? oops! just noticed the backup links. it’s late!
aaaand we’re in diff matchups : ((
Christos with his build, and Bash with this. as if Guardians has a hard time dying already! XDD
(edited by akamon.2769)
woahhh, SoS, TC!!! good to see you guys again.
will definitely try to get on sometime this week. : ))
good luck to all, stay humble, be graceful and most importantly.. HAVE A FRIGGIN’ DOLYAK TON OF FUN!
just got done! THANKS SO MUCH AG AIN!
))))))))
quite smooth and now i know how to do it should anyone else need help : ))
hey Pandemone, it’ll work like other dungeons, though i think Seafarer’s Rest is EU?
we have to all be NA, since Paranormal is on NA. : (((
not sure if th ere’s a way around this now.
i love PIZZA! lol
okay, i’ll be on in a bit ; ))) giving the baby a bath first lol
working out on a 30/x/30/x/x build right now. it’s workable. most effective? maybe not, but i feel alright surviving, and definitely doing a lot of damage.
kudos goes to Amins of course. you can check out his Zealous Defender youtube vids. : )))
would definitely love a rework of the zeal traits though! just so Guards can add more variety to their builds.
let’s all focus on the positive guys. makes me sad that people think that of SoR.
so those on SoR, again, the server that you claim to be so proud of, give it genuine meaning to be able to say “I am of SoR!”
troll or no troll (though you all need to stop feeding and flaming one another or taking the bait or dousing yourself with gasoline….), i’ve never seen the point of being mean, obnoxious, or kitteny… sometimes, you don’t get what you put in, most of the time, you don’t get what you deserve… you just get what you get. simple as that.. what truly counts is how you act when something GOOD is begotten to you. if we’re gonna win, let’s win with GRACE.
SoR here, since… it doesn’t even matter, does it. though, i would like to add a little something. i was lucky enough to have chosen this server, with my wife, who introduced me to guild wars. mainly, because we thought the name was cool. ; )) then not long after, we find out about the legacy behind the naming of the server. even better.
then we joined our first guild through a very successful first time venture into AC story mode, and made a friend. and though we don’t get to play together as much anymore, the guild leader i stay in touch with outside of gw2 more than anything. a real friend, dare i say. then on another fateful day, i met Miasmic from CDS, and as we (me wifey and i) were starting to have a stronger focus on WvW we were privileged enough to join. and our journey doesn’t stop there…
true, i may not have been able to play as much.. but even without the two instances above, most people i’ve met on the server are very nice, humble and all know how to have a good time. the WvW-ers especially might i add have tenacity, always fight hard and the ones i am close to and spend most time with, are extremely respectful. commanders are great. allies are tremendous. and people DO see it.
and here’s the kicker – i’ve guested to other servers, talked to others on the forums, pm’s, tells… i’ve made friends with people on, YES, BG, JQ, TC, etc etc WHILE we were fighting one another.. and some of my better friends are not only limited to SoR, but also other servers. i am a firm believer that like all things in this world, even in video games, even in GW2, that all servers, all homeworlds out there are perfect for someone. and there’s a place for everyone. i love Sanctum of Rall.. and i know others love their own servers as well. and i think that’s the way it should be.
so please, no more slandering of other worlds, or guilds, or individuals.. it gets you nowhere. let’s be humble. let’s use life giving words, instead of toxicity. what’s positive is what will bring you up and how we can keep buildnig our great communities that we so believe in and have come to love.
and, yes, i am specifically speaking to those few on my own server who do use their words slightly in a more than reckless manner. don’t get me wrong, i am not putting you down, but we need to choose our actions and words more carefully. i urge you to! i know we’re better than this!!! i, too, think it’s amazing we’ve come such a long way!! and thank you to all those who put in extra timea nd efforts to bring eveyrone together, i can count more than 2 hands full. in your light, i wish i could do the same adn more for my own server!! nevertheless, i couldn’t be more proud that we’re sitting at the top now, so here’s a /cheer for SoR! and here’s a /cheer for JQ! a /cheer for BG! a /cheer for TC, SoS, SBI and the many more servers we’ve and i’ve personally fought against. anything can happen in the game, as anything can happen in the world, so while we’re on the very top, let’s at least act like we belong here. not because we deserve it. not because we’re better than others. but because we’re privilegeled enough to be here.
i know many of you won’t agree with me. i know many of you won’t like what i had to say. but i couldn’t let it sit in me. sure it’s a video game, but this is real people we’re dealing with here. nor am i imposing my ways of life unto you, you can take what you will from this… i can’t speak for the server. and i can’t apologize for those who’ve offended others.. as i do believe each and every individual ought to take ownership of their own words. and to a certain extent guilds. but as i say this, i take off my hats from any guild, server, race, profession and say… personally, i would take a humble defeat over a pompous vitory any day.
so let’s try to focus on that. strength and unity through humility, only to further build our already great community. only to achieve greater things.
(edited by akamon.2769)
Someone needs to. So we can murder each other!
i was about to say, you wanna, Bash?
but then that wouldn’t really work now would it.
i’m gonna try to get on this weekend, yes? ; ))
lol, stop enjoying killing so much. >;DDD
but i agree, stars, commander tags, legends will make you thirst for blood. or when we were able to see titles still.. i’d always go for apprentice toy makers. donno why.
that being said, i would never say no to more armor skins!
like Harbinger mentioned, it’s a pretty darn DPS oriented set. and extremely fun to play! it works great with a Right Hand Strength build, with the likes of the second setup Harbinger posted – x/30/30/x/x. though of course, not necessary.
do you mean you’re running full PVT gear? or just on the GS?
if you have a full set of PVT gear, you can go full zerker trinkets and weapon for very decent damage as well and i can see sword/torch excel there. though, SLIGHTLY less tanky if that’s what you’re used to.
hey Paranormal. it’s the weekend! and i am back lol. hoping to get a spot somewhere this weekend. : )))
i’ll try and come on your 6/7 afternoon/evenings and try to catch you then! still need the achievements and partake in the living storyyyyyyyyyy lol
many many kudos again for this. i shall give you a hug in-game (hope that doesn’t scare you away lol).
you can say that again. 4k armor??
does it make a big difference in terms of dmg reduction? or anything notable at least?
lol, you’re scary Bash! XDD
here’s sort of a list for the recipes for the Mystic Forge / PvP. like mentioned, some of the gear has not been seen or confirmed yet as people ahve not reached max rank yet, etc etc
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/55030-pvp-mystic-forge-recipes/
hey there and welcome to being one of the most fun classes in the game! lol, in case it doesn’t show, i am severely biased towards the Guardian. ; )))
just as a starting point, i recommend reading the sticky thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guide-Hammer-and-Altruistic-Healing-gameplay/first
even if you don’t end up playing an Altruistic Healing build or with hammer, there’s a lot of good info in there and should get you started. it might be overwhelming at first.. but there’s only one way to learn!
love scepter/torch btw! you can also look into going 30 full into Radiance with RHS.
i want to add that as a DPS Guardian, you will most likely want to jump in, drop the bomb, and get back out. like a few have mentioned, if you know what you’re donig, you can still last quite a bit if the fight happens to go on. but it does take practice.
i myself went from a standard hybrid build to more DPS focused. and i enjoy it a lot.. still learning a lot! but the most i learnt was from the early stages, learning how to survive, how to outlast and really understand and play the class mechanics.
then moving onto berserker or being “glassy” if you will, made more sense to me. though at the same time, i’ve talked to some Guards who’ve been DPS focused the whole time.. in a sense, it’s like how Luffy was thrown into the jungle by Garp and he survived and only got stronger that way. lol.
but i would recommend trying out different builds anyways if you like the class and figure out what you enjoy the most and do the best at, the two not mutually exclusive or dependent on one another.
i saw a character with the starting Guardian shoulders PLUS the helm. he definitely looked Guardianesque and had a certain aura about him. : )))
^^ you’ll get there soon. ; ))
sad as is, the most WvW action i’ve been getting for the past couple of weeks.. or even month??? has been reading the threads here. anyone wanna switch jobs with me?
i was testing a new build on my Guard last night. pretty good so far. then played a bit more later and then one team was thfthfthfmesmesmes. this was on Forest. i saw the enemies take keep, so i ran up, and saw them headed off to mine (i was coming from chief/henge side) and then right as i get to the stairs, i get downed in like half a second. then i see 3 thieves and a mesmer that just bursted on me. they were all stealthed, waiting for someoen to come up to keep. :///
silly. me.
hahaha o snap.
though, i actually suffer from the same “build crisis” that he does. ; ))
@OP, good video! hope to see you guys on the field when i get more WvW time in again.
doode, Amins, nice build. i’m in the process of putting something together similar.. cleric/soldier and mixing in magi’s to get some crit rating. actually started an Asura Guardian lol from watching your vids. he’s 80 now but haven’t had the time to fully build his set yet. will be mainly focusing on support as well (and my Norn takes up DPS, roaming, hybrid, etc etc).
excited to see this new movie!
D and i’ll be tryign to guess your sigils and food. you have food listed in your build link though. so i assume you switch ’em throughout the video?
202hp/s, that’s awesome.
it’s funny how you, Oozo and Incominggray all put up some staff support WvW build recently. ; )) i’m planning on running either staff + scepter/shield or staff + hammer as well.
^^^ would be extremely desvastating to whoever ran into you two ; ))
throw Bash in the mix too!
i like those changes, Amins.
@Bailey, you should definitely check out Amins youtube WvW Guardian videos as well. i learned a ton from ‘em. : )) and they’re fun to watch!
just a small reminder, for your ports (sword 2 and JI), you need targets for them to work. but you can easily cover a ton of ground this way. i think when you’re able to keep up with the ele’s who tend to ride away, keep up the pressure, they’ll fall to your blade in due time.
@DoubleAron – my first take on it was i felt your health was a little on the low side. you can easily make that up with some food though. though unsure if you’re going for boon duration food as well, since you’re running +30% on your runes. : )) or maybe slot in some PVT/Soldier or Valkyrie armor. or even switch the ruby orbs in your trinkets to beryl orbs. i went with the second option just to tinker a lil bit and it brings you above 13k health. which may not seem a huge difference, but psychologically, i feel more safe. lol. but in the end, it’s all how you play!
you have nice crit chance as well! though power is a little low too. so maybe some PVT armor could be a good choice. you don’t lose too much toughness, add some vit and gain more power. of course, you lose precision as well, but hopefully the added power is more than enough to make up for it.
i personally prefer Writ of Exaltation before Writ of Persistence as well. though if you’re planning to do mainly PvE, then Persistence could be more useful as most of the time you’ll be grouping mobs and they don’t run too much. : )) hope this helps! just a few thoughts from my end.
@Iconik – haha, it’s not easy trying to match Brutaly’s stats. ; ))) which set are you trying to build or follow exactly? or what is off the mark exactly? i think min/maxing in this game is a fine art.. and defs not easy lol
if you’re going for Binding Jeopardy, i’d recommend taking the scepter as well, which is pretty much an instant immobilize. with Signet of Wrath, Scepter 3 and Hammer 3, you can stack up to 18 stacks of vuln. though argubly, many think that Zeal II, 10% damage on burning foes is moer consistent and adds more DPS overall over time. and your immob goes on cooldown. though i tried it and it’s quite fun to play too : ))
so if you do, and if you take Harbinger’s recommendation and split your 10 from virtues and go the full 30 with Radiance, you can think about picking up RHS as well which adds a ton of crit chance to when you use the scepter. though, if you’re intentions are to keep hammer and GS, then go for inscribed removal maybe for more condition removal since you’re running two signets already.
i think what you’ve listed could work though.
and the valor line is not too shabby actually. 300 toughness. 30% crit damage. and i love the meditation traits.
lastly, maybe try http://www.gw2skills.net/editor : ))
they’ve done a rehaul, so split between PvP, WvW and PvE. and as far as i know, everything’s updated to the latest.
dang. gotta go read and watch vegeta to frieza arc now!!!!
too. much. nostalgia.
just throwing it out there – Guardians can DPS, while surviving as well. XDD
but yes, Guardians do excel at team play, various forms of control via area denial, and giving out boons. i find them to be a versatile class and even with each build, there are innate qualities that allow them to last longer. but due to the low health pool, you do need to know the class mechanics that can help you survive.
that’s what you WANT them to think. ; ))
but seriously, to each their own. no need to keep feeding one another’s ego… we all get in there to have fun, and good fights come out of it! i’ve made friends from either of your server as well. what’s not to like? there’s no need to come out here and talk smack just for the sake of it. no need to get riled up. no need to respond to that either.
i know, we don’t live in a perfect world, but if we were able to each put forth a little effort in preserving that… for a while, this thread was headed in the right direction… peolpe talking strategy, giving kudos to one another, albeit enemies on the field, in terms of their strategy and efforts… do people not enjoy reading those? i wonder.
love the work you put into the community Bas.
go team Guardians! glad this is happening for the EU folk as well. : )) would be interesting to see how different EU play is compared to NA play.
they definitely helped me when i first got to lvl 80 myself. : ))
and if you have more questions, just ask them or come back here! plenty of vet / expert Guards with a lot to offer.
you’re most welcome : ))
here’s a quick link to my standard, safe-bet WvW build
i’m using 0/5/30/30/5/ here as well along with similar traits. you can take a look at my stats and compare them to yours. i went for a balance of damage, crit chance / dmg %, as well as toughness and health. these are all sitting at good points for me. of course, you can also use a perception or bloodlust sigil to stack precision or power, depending on your likeing (remember these stacks remove on down / defeat or travel from map to map). but of course, stats aren’t everything and really comes down to how you play. i’ve since then gone on to more aggressive/offensive focused builds, but i know i can always come back to this one and perform well.
if you like the Sigil of Blood (i’m asuming for life steal), you could go more that route and focus the rest of your build on that as well. though i’m not too versed in that area.
one key thing is, i’ve switched up your utilities to include at least one more meditation since you’ve picked up Monk’s Focus so your meditations heal you. so you can get an extra heal this way. you might wanna go with contemplation of purity instead as well since it’s also a stun break and converts multiple conditions to boons. you just wanna make sure you time it and don’t use it too early if you’re expecting a lot of conditions.
in addition, you can maybe pick up Resolute Healer if you’re running in a group. well the trait that generates a shield of absorption whenever you’re reviving. it’s useful to save downed allies : ))
i know it’s not the easiest trying to catch up with fleeing enemies or disengaging before it’s too late. but it’s definitely doable with the Guardian. check out Stunningstyles’ DPS Guardian. about halfway through, he escapes from a group of like 5+. even just using GS and Staff, you’re able to be pretty mobile. use leap of faith (GS3) to catch up to someone or jump away. use line of warding (staff5) to stop people from running, or lay it down in front of you as you’re running away to stop people. use GS5 in addition to Judge’s Intervention (JI) to catch up to someone and drag them back. use GS3 with JI to cover even more ground!
though i do want to add, staff definitely excels in group fights more. i wouldn’t be the most ecstatic to be caught in a 1v1 or 1v2 situation with a staff. it’s probably doable, but i feel there are better options. : )) hammer for e.g. i love. mace gives good survivability. sword is always a popular favorite as well. scepter has good 1v1 dmg like the sword and argubly even more dmg too.
i will say though in the very beginning, i would get severe tunnel vision so even if i was winning a 1v1 fight, i wouldn’t see other people coming and then they’d wipe the floor with me. so even ebfore knowing HOW to disengage, etc, i’d say it’s more important to know WHEN to engage and disengage. and then we can work on how. you can also use other abilities like Shelter heal which blocks for 2s-ish. then your elite Renewed Focus allows for a couple of seconds of invulnerability as well. which refreshes your virtues for more blind, blocks, protection, etc… and if you happen to be a Norn, the Snow Leopard elite skill actualyl does wonders in terms of catching up with people, or running away. just make sure you stun break or cleanse all conditions first!
i’ve never been a signet player, but tbh, i don’t know too many Guardians that actively keep the signet of mercy on their bar. i’ve heard it’s kind of buggy for the Guardian. i’ll mayeb go try to test this out and see how it works. ://
re: the dd ele, did you know what took you down? was it too fast? you couldn’t put a dent in them? or… each time i ran into a good foe or someone who just destroyed me, i’ll try to figure out their build and go and learn their class (only i really only play the Guardian). i try to look up stuff and learn counters so that it won’t happen again.
there are argubly better builds out there for 1v1’s. but that’s not to say the build we’re talking about here isn’t a strong 1v1 or even 1vN build. main thing is keep practicing, learn from your mistakes, and have fun!! feel free to ask me more questions if you need more help.
hopefully more veteran and more experienced Guards can chip in as well!
lol, never lose hope!! feelf ree to ask me questions if you ever need. in-game or on here and i’ll do my best to answer and help out.
there you go! as long as you’ve done most dungeons, you’ll already won half the battle. now, next step, like you said, it just to keep practicing, learning how the class works, and there’s really nothing to lose. : ))
AH is a great trait and lot of builds focus on it. though it’s not the end all be all. it’s not so much for groups specifically, but rather, it performs its best in groups! but through the nature of the way the trait works, you’ll be giving a lot of boons, which in some sense, is support for the group. and you’re staying alive. which is even better. but yes, for an effective AH build, i wanna say being lvl 80 would be more suited.
so for now, focus on the general direction i put you and see hwo that works for you. if it doesn’t work, try out new things. : ))) do know though, i felt pretty squishy with my Guardian when i first started until i hit about lvl 60. one, sur ei didn’t know the game as well back then, but also just because you have more access to traits that help out and make a big difference.
but i think the refresh on kills VoJ is extremely useful! AoE blinds can really be life savers. in the end, jsut keep trying all weapon sets, utilities and figure out what you enjoy the most : ))) good luck!
are you mainly going for dungeons?
if so, can i suggest a more hybrid style of a build? you can support, you can DPS, you can control, etc..
0/0/30/30/10 is a standard, typical Altruistic Healing build.
you can check out the forum’s sticky thread Hammer + AH for some ideas. super detailed! also, look up Strife025 on youtube for his take on a dungeon anchor build. see what they have to offer and then you can tweak it to your own liking – which i feel is the most important part of every build you’ll ever run.
good luck!
welcome back!
the Guardian is in a good place now i think. as you can tell the last few patches, not much is being done to the Guard though. definitely still some tweaks to be made! and more to improve on.
I’ve recently started testing Bane Signet as well in my WvW and sPvP builds. i definitely like the added power while it’s passive, though, the knockdown is extremely useful for setting up burst. you can use it defensively as well! stop someone to relieve a little pressure on your end.
some will argue that it’s a waste of a utility spot but it’s been pretty fun so far and quite effective. i’ll keep testing it but i think i like the way it plays. i went pretty deep in radiance for the build as well, and picked up Signet of Resolve as my heal as well (used to run shelter), so trying to get the most out of it.
some great ideas in here. : ))) glad to see so many so passionate of the Guardian.
really hoping we do get the attention come soon!
really want some of the traits that are never used to get reworked. i’m sad to admit that there are some i don’t even remember details of.. cause i’ve never even contemplated using them.
hmm, i started PvP-ing just about a month or so ago. i main a Guardian and since day one, leveled to do dungeons, then focused on WvW for a bit. and now PvP i would consider the majority of my gw2 playtime.
i do want to say there is a notable difference between PvE/WvW and PvP. your gear for one, is more or less set and you get the chocies of runes and your amulet and upgrade. so the only thing really is to practice and test.. trial and error to see what you can or cannot work with. my personal stat thresholds i developed over the many months didn’t apply in sPvP lol. but like i said, no biggie.
and the style of play is extremely different. even though WvW is a form of PvP, it’s a lot more focused here and less room for error i feel. it really forces you to learn your class.. do pick what you want to be, and then try to build around that.
also, it’s moer key than ever to learn the OTHER classes, even though you might not play them. it’s crucial to learn which moves to dodge, block, blind, interupt, etc etc.. even more importantly, whenyou do get rolled around, cause iddi a lot too, look back on what killed you, how it killed you, and then keep that in mind. learn to avoid those or come up with counters. there won’t be one build that can rule them all, but know what your weaknesses are.
each map has different objectives too, so learn them and learn them well. also use the terrain to your advantage. maybe you can find an empty server and just spend some time running aroudn the map so yuo know your way around them.
i was lucky enough to spend some time in tPvP with some vents, we got on voice chat and was able to learn a bit from then. after that, i just did more research on my own, do more trial and error, try new builds, etc…
and right now, i won’t say i’m extremely good at it. a good player can easily roll me even if i know what i’m doing.. but the point is, i still have fun with it, keep trying new builds, learning new things. : )) so keep it up!
let us know if you have more specific questions.. which may allow us to better help you. for e.g. any specific classes you have problems again, which class you play yoruself, which build, etc etc.
agreed! i just tried it for a few runs last night so will have to see how it goes long run for me personally, but other than smite condition and judge’s, i keep switching the first slot and so far, it was pretty fun when i did use it for the KD.
and yes, so not to derail OP’s thead, i’ll leave it at that.. but looking forward to seeing this new build you’re working on! good luck! ; ))
haha, now i just need to find someone i can play with regularly to setup bursts like that! ; )) really loving the mace more heh.
agreed it’s taking one slot and i’m still tweaking with it. though i ran it with some success last night! though of course, will have to test it more and see how it goes in the long run. so i was running BS, SC and JI. usually i’ll have either SYG or CoP in that first slot. so i am giving up stability / stun break or heal / condi convert / stun break for it. now that i put it that way lol… i did feel quite comfortable running it though! will let you know how things go ; ))
sounds good! and good luck with all that ; ))
and ahh, do i miss dorm life.
and @Brutaly, been messing with Bane Signet too. pretty fun stuff! definitely helps land the big hits. the added power is decent too while passive.
