[CDS] – Sanctum of Rall
(edited by akamon.2769)
still no reason to use Mercitful Intervention i see. :/// but dangit! i forgot yesterday was tuesday and i didnt’ read all this until i’m at work… NOOOO! lol wasn’t expecting notes for Guardians but they are more than welcome.
my symbol bombing MF Guardian will be very happy.D
and wait, so mace 2 has still only been hitting up to 3 targets this whole time???
the change to MF is nice, but you’d still need considerable amounts of healing.
not complaining though : )))
on a side note: anyone have a, or going for a Steampunk Guardian? looking at SDCC pics this year, a LOT of people did stempunk renditions of other characters that.. normally wouldn’t be found in steampunk gear. the hammer is pretty riduclous looking lol
(edited by akamon.2769)
^^ then why do you still keep your wand around, eh, Tarsius?? ; ))
that’s the thing though – are most people invested enough in the story, in the characters, in the background lore to really think abuot Kiel vs Gnashblade?
i can easily imagine people saying, “meh. cheaper WPs, and i don’t buy keys, so i guess i’ll vote for kiel!”
anyone need a /hug? or cookies?
just offering. : ))
id take the cookies, but for the hug i think, i will pass not unless your kate upton or scarlet johansson.
unfortunately. i am as far removed from being either of those beauties. so cookies it is! wait.. “not unless” is that a double negative? i’m terrible at these things.
@JQ and WARD and company – wishing you guys the very best through all this. never ever easy when people choose to leave. and welcome, WARD.
@DB – a quick shout out for spending more time on the match than on the forums. ; ))
one small thing, you’re pushing it far when you said you have to turn around, with your backs against your enemies JUST to hit your allies. it does damage, so why not two birds with one stone? circle strafe around so your cone from Shield #4 hits the most of both allies and enemies.
application of protection at the right time can be pretty clutch sometimes. there are no big numbers to see, or strong visual effects, so i feel that’s why people feel it’s underwhelming. but another whopping 33% damage reduction is not too shabby.
[added: that being said, if they want to buff the shield, please, be my guest. : ))]
anyone need a /hug? or cookies?
just offering. : ))

…and i have more in my bank.
i have a problem. ://
late to the party, but… welcome DB! hope you’ve been enjoying the fights regardless. don’t pay the threads no mind, but have fun with it (something i admit i have a hard time doing XDD).
been looking forward to facing you guys so hopefully one of these nights, i’ll get to jump in on some WvW action and meet you on the pitch.
and just because, for GNASHBLADE!
lol SIlentstorm, glad you’re showing up more on the forums again. ; ))
and just for the record, i enjoy roaming as a Guardian as well. may not be the fastest moving from point A to be B, but even then, that’s hardly a problem and many ways to help with that. in combat though,d epending how you’re specced, you can easily maneuver around the fight, as well as control people where you want them to be. to a certain extent… ; )) to be very honest, if i play against a player much better than myself? they’ll be able to pull off anything with any class and i wouldn’t be surprised or blame the class. or cry for their class.
if you enjoy the Guardian class, the mechanics, the look, the weapons, the skills. just go to town with ‘em. you’ll make it work.
i am a huge advocate for doing things that people tell me i shouldn’t. XDD
i use mace in PvE. i use mace to burst. i use mace’s auto to hit 2.5k-3k-4k chains. i use protector’s strike to hit up to ~7k.
not to say, i don’t like the greatsword or sword as well. i guess my point is, there’s no need to narrow your options down when they can do so much more for you if you’re willing to give it a shot.
but to be honest, as great as big numbers and killing fast are, don’t forget to stick to the weapons that you enjoy most as well. unless, if killing ASAP is your sole goal, then that’s a different story. : ))
that’s the thing though. i’ve realized after every patch, my lag jumps considerably. when Bazaar first came out, the skills were nuts for me. i could make it up to the ship, but couldn’t race. i’d repeat the same jump over and over and for the bits where you HAD to use lightning pull (#3), i would just be stuck there until the race clock ran its course.
then come last weekend, i.e. 2 weeks after the last major patch was released, i was able to lpay with a LOT less lag and jumps actually put me where i’d expect it to (most of the time). then recently, it’s been starting to lag again – maybe because of the new incoming patch? something’s going on server side? i’m unsure of how these thigns work down to the technical details so i’m merely going by anecdotal evidence…
which is okay, since i decided to wait a bit and the gameplay actually got a LITTLE better. the only thing is, which the OP mentioned, is that a lot of this content is for a limited time. and if they keep pumping out new content every 2 weeks, that means there’s constant patching, thus not allowing the server/system/client to “recompose” itself. again, as you can tell, i’m not very technical.. but i just realized every time after patch, certain movements skills don’t perform well.
other parts of the game, other than in WvW with 60+ 3 way battles, i don’t experience any lag. didn’t ahve any problems with SAB or DB launch pads, unless, agani, if it was right after a patch.
gotta say, i love how the Hellfire gloves match the Destroyer GS i’m planning to use them same on me Guard heh.
like most people have said, just go for it.D namely, learn all the weapon skills (by that i don’t mean the unlocking as you use them, but really learn to use them in different situations and get a feel for them all). a lot of the Guardian’s weapon skills i feel can be used both defensievly as well as offensively. : ))
definitely experiment with utilities as well! even at 80, depending on your content and build, you’ll be switching utilities to step up to the situations.
like mentioned, 10 in Power is always good / nice to have.
15 in Radiance helps a lot as well.
then throw another 5 pts into Virtues then you get 3 stacks of might each time you hit VoJ as well now!
so what do you get? spammable VoJ which gives you might, burn, blind, vulnerability each time. if you took 10 in Zeal, and Fiery Wrath, that’s another 10% damage as well. of course, works best with a bunch of mobs. not AS effective against, say, a high health single target, but you still get added crit chance and power so that’s always useful.
since you’re only lvl 17, you can slowly work your way up there. if it sounds like something you’d enjoy. makes for decent leveling.
i personally love the mace as well make sure to use Mace 3 for damage as well! when yuo see an incoming hit from a mob, pop Mace 3, block the attack and watch AoE damage. i like hiding the little shield from Focus 5 inside the Mace 3 big shield for lots of AoE explosions. fun times.
[edit: that being said, you can look into the Honor line as well. Larger symbols (III), healing symbols (X) i always enjoy with the mace. or longer lasting symbols (VII) for PvE since most mobs stay relatively in the same spot.
or while leveling, you can always go further down the Zeal line since all the Minor traits buff symbols and mace 2 is on a relative short CD]
thanks for this post and i wish i saw this earlier. : )) after about two weeks and during off hours, my lag and glitches were significantly less (playing from Hong Kong on NA). and after lots of experimentation, i’ve discovered all these as well which do help.
HUGE on don’t use #1 or any skill for that matter when you’re near a wall or touching it. you lost precious time having to rejump what would have been a simple jump if you stopped two steps before.
another small tip to Lightning Pull #3, in addition to the 400ms pause, i like to get to the edge of the platform i’m jumping from as much as possible, and aim towards the direction you’re jumping/pulling to. i like to think it helps.
and just saw your edit, lag was more for me last night/today as well. perhaps because ANet’s preparing for the upcoming patch? just a thought.
@Rottaran/Northlander – fair points, all. i guess i was merely trying to offer a different perspective, though not a very strong one. the ANet devs, i’ve read here and there, do want people to get interested in WvW. and putting achievements in WvW has definitely made people enter WvW, whereas previously they may have never imagined it. but it’s the experience they get when going there, that can sway them to keep pursuing or fall in love with WvW / PvP of gw2. so i do agree, that it’s rough when you have to go through OS. and there’s always been a rift, if you will, between “hardcore” WvW-ers vs “hardcore” PvE-ers. so the WvWers are gonan take advantage of that. not saying all, cause many actually won’t even touch you.
@Bov – see what @Ingido wrote – though, i’m not really taking sides. : ))
@Synful – : (((
probably gonna get flamed for this..
what if ANet put in super smart AI-ed mobs at the end of a JP in PvE-land and they are OP and OHKO if you’re not careful. would that be alright? i know, the heart of the argument many have is that PvP = / = PvE. at the same time, why not just treat the WvWers as said OP mobs with really high AI? XDDD you are in PvP-land after all, and most of the “mobs” are going to be your opposing servermates.
it’s like one normally wouldn’t go solo the Champ Risen Abom on their own (yes, i know it can be done), but would go as a group to up their chances or survival and succeeding. i’ve often found many Risen (the one’s that pull you) way more annoying than any real player i’ve faced off against.
can take it as a chance to hone in on your skills or explore more of what your class or the game has to offer : ))
heh, understatement for you, Zumy!! rooting for you though. haha ANet upped the challenge for you too with potential new legendaries! XPP
that being said, what ARE some of the best ways to garner quick SP? how many SPs are in open world? would having an alt just speed through from SP to SP be wise? :// though, i always feel might as well go for map completely again while i’m doing that.
so far, just been playing the game as per usual. not in a big hurry, but i wouldn’t mind since for my next legendary, i am just missing SPs now. :OOO i guess a part of just wants to say the relics that i do have right now in case i need ’em for a backpiece one day. but who knows. but i guess if i did more fractals, i would get more eventualyl anyways.
[edit: actually, i think fractals might be the most efficient way now. i’ve been meaning to play more to have a chance at rings as well. thanks for the suggestion Apolyon!]
(edited by akamon.2769)
there you go, GSS!
i donno how you do it, Brutaly. one might argue 12s is too long to build up just for burst, but this sounds almost too intriguing. heh will be looking forward to hearing more about it.
I meant that the builds seemed to be PvE oriented, not that the players were bad. That thread absolutely has some awesome guardians in it. So it wasn’t meant as a snub to those players. It’s just that the builds seemed to be pve builds, or bad traits for pvp builds. I pointed out above some traits are just better in pvp, versus pve. I would give examples but you know plenty of them because you are one of those kick kitten guardians I enjoy reading posts from.
Mostly I was just curious if anyone had managed to create a sort of burst build utilizing these stats. I honestly don’t even know if Guardians can use these stats effectively. I know there is a necro build that does, and that there is a thief build, ranger etc.
ahh, i never meant to imply that you meant other Guards in that thread were bad. apologies on that front. ; )) i guess i was approaching that thread from a WvW standpoint and tbh, i haven’t had as MUCH time to spend theorycrafting or even playing the game as much as i used to or like. so i might have missed a few things here and there. see and that’s one of the things too, i feel it may be difficult for celestial gear to fulfill what we can already find with other gear sets available. in turn, leading towards builds we know may be effective for PvE or even WvW. though i will still keep testing and eventually when we can actually gear ourseleves in them, get some actual field testing in. i’m still hoping to be able to come up with efficient, viable and most importanly fun builds using celestials. though heh, it seems to be quite tough at the moment, or my brain’s just not working lol.
i think they’ll definitely work for us. just to what degree is what i’m tryign to explore.
i do want to say if there was a burst build using a good portion of celestial, i’d be very interested in know what that was. again, the loss of power (which is easily one of the greatest damage sources we have) is too much. yea i heard some necro builds and rangers could utilize ’em quite well. keep those wheels turning!
and doode, i am humbled by your comment. :PP i am like the rest of us, and immensely love playing the Guardian is all. i appreciate your kind words. : ))
we present to you, a new Guardian build today – The Vainway! XDDD
kidding aside, you know what Chris, now actually seeing pics of your potential set ups with FDS in the picture, like Hunter said, even in all white, the sword still looks pretty sick and stands out even more.
but yes, definitely get both catchers. ; ))))
heh, take Oozo’s words as a major compliment ; ))
^^^ do check out the Healway Guardian build. it’s one of the threads on the first page now. ; ))
hmm, i want to say it really depends on how you want to play and what you want to achieve in WvW. a 0/0/10/30/30 or 0/0/20/30/20 build with high healing and strong boon duration can function very well in both solo play as well as group play. though understand you will be doing sustained damage overtime and most likely won’t see any big numbers. a lot of damage will also come via retaliation or burn on blocks if you go for that trait.
at the same time, i wouldn’t say AH isn’t viable. i personally feel hammer is EXTREMELY strong in WvW. regardless of solo or group. though AH definitely shines when in at least a full group. with high enough healing power though, you don’t need AH to help you survive. you can get cloe to 2k dodgerolls, equip energy sigils on both weapon sets and that alone is HUGE sustain. again, use blinds, dodges, blocks all at the right time.
re: retaliation. it’s definitely strong in WvW but you CAN get by without speccing heavily into it. i would say , try both builds (though you may need different armor sets to reach “max” potential of either build, imho) and see which you prefer. not everyone’s going to love one style over another. and you may not like both. then it’s about finding what you enjoy yourself.
one of the benefits of having 30 in Valor (x/x/30/x/x) is that you can switch to use meditations with Monk’s Focus (Valor XII) if you’re going solo. and then switch to shouts and Altrustic healing if you’re in a small group and you feelthat’s more beneficial.
but i will say the Healway or variations of it are extremely fun to play in WvW. : ))
I say rebrand it to:
HELLWAY
no more Mr. nice guardian…
Chris, now you needa pick up Hellfire gear and get Twilight!
Thx, the only pve I done in months was to get that node. Got one random so far.
Will have to get back later regarding builds, got my first child so atm my gaming is limited to 5 minutes each morning, getting charged quartz and picking up my achivement box.
Might be a bit more active later this weekend.
Ooooh, congo rats!! Kids are lots of fun, just be sure to get your sleep in when you can.
congrats, Brutaly!D mine just turned 6 months couple days ago. and that’s sort of what i’ve been doing too, lol. chest, charged quartz and then start working on dailies, hopefully i can finish ’em by day end. i imagine you must not be getting much sleep now! enjoy all the precious moments!
DDDDDDDD
aaaaand quick question to you all here now – since Ascended armor has been “introduced”, though no specific timeline, methods and exact mats needed, in addition to it it being time gated as well – for those of you planning for Celestial exotics, will you still be doing so? or rather wait it out? or do we feel this doesn’t affect one or the other at all?
What build would you guys recommend for a tanky dps on wvwvw for small groups and zergs? I am currently running a AH build with PVT gear and zerker trinkets but I would like to experiment some other builds, preferably leaning towards DPS.
and instead, let’s turn to help those who have a genuine question? : ))
quick question, Shinta – do you enjoy roaming more? or running with a small group? or with a large group? open field fights, taking camps, etc?
i freaking love Thunder Cats!
and heh, funny how this thread came up right before ANet announces new skills / traits. how awesome would it be if ANet chose one of YOUR ideasD
lot of good stuff in here so far.
^^^ agreed! right now every day is like Christmas. or your birthday. or a day where you get presents! and theeeeeeeeen…. it will be many days without. : (( lol
there are still stat sets that can’t be obtained in ascended yet afaik? so perhaps we would have the ability to craft ascended stat sets of what we can currently craft?
One thing on Pickup Completionist: I’ve read that you have to actually hit another player with the skill. So make sure someone’s near you when you hit the key. Make sure to use Grounded whenever — that was my 6th one that I didn’t notice I had for quite a few races.
I don’t recall because it was awhile ago, but I’m pretty sure I just got them and pressed the keys as soon I got them. It could be I hit players on accident but I wasn’t paying attention because I was just running around to each bag to get the skills and use them.
i read that and thought, oh mang, with my lag, it’s gonna be rough to have to hit people. so i went back home one day and checked and i already had the achievement. it hink i just activated all skills when i picked ’em up too. ://
iirc, you do have to break the first seal, and it’ll be at the top of the path with the windy bit.
@OP – i think it’s definitely doable Solo though. and just do lvl 1 if anything. : )) do you know the mechanics of that certain fractal? it wouldn’t hurt to look it up a bit just to make things go a little smoother : )) good luck!
I don’t understand why businessman = devil in everybody’s mind.
Evon/Anet is not a good businessman. He rips his customers off (RNG Skins)
without delivering a quality product for their money.Anet should take the skins out of the BLC’s, sell the skins outright, reduce the price to 25-50 gems each, remove items like permanent bank access from the game.
doode, did you READ the latest news by ANet? gw2 is my first MMO ever. and after the treatment we get here? i don’t think get the same enjoyment out of any other MMO out there, let alone one that doesn’t have a sub fee.
and if you want to stick to “lore”, Evon does not create the chests.. which contain RNG. he but tempts you with the ability for a chance at goodies by selling they keys. and if you are the one that falls to temptation, don’t play the victim.
playing AS the gods may seem quite far-fetched, or rather, hard to implement from a technical perspective i feel.
what if they added a mechanic where each player would get a buff from respective gods, which are required for certain mechanics to beat the boss of the fractal? or certain bits to advance in the dungeon? at the same time, it’s the labs way of emulating what happened then.
i think solely in terms of how retaliation currently works in the game, it’s not bad.
currently, one way of dealing with retaliation is by using high damage single hits or burst attacks. instead of just not doing anything and waiting for their boon to drop (if you can’t effectively boon strip). so you can still apply pressure when your enemies have that boon up. no?
i guess on the other hand, you could argue that multi / fast hitting attacks wouldn’t be as punished by retaliation as it currently is. but like people have mentioned, you can easily waste someone’s blind or single attack block or aegis by using fast multi hitting attacks and still do sustained damage. so they’re both covered in this sense.
i do wish that we had more dye options with the Arah legs. i often find it overwhelming to dye one portion A and the other B. too much discrepency for my own liking – ideally you’d have to choose two similar enough colors. even the same dye choice would come out differently in many cases cause one bit’s majority “cloth”, while the other “not cloth”.
One can always run around with sword/focus when not in combat to avoid the clipping issue : ))
i think it’d be interesting to see Evon on the Council. that would really change things up in LA and, by extension, our adventures in Tyria. though, equally interesting if Ellen Kiel was in fact, under cover and wanting to destroy from within. >:DDD
@Onshi – didn’t Logan say he doesn't trust the Lionguard? (in the film noir scenes)
i had initially thought that the Bazaar will be around for 4 weeks, similar to Dragon Bash being around for 4 weeks. And then Gnash vs Kiel is just the 2nd LS update that occurs every 2 weeks, similar to the Sky Pirates of Tyria being the 2nd LS update during DB.
but i may be wrong. i’m hoping this is the case so people do have time to complete the achievements. would be nice if ANet gave us clear cut schedules of when events last until, but more so namely the achievements.
playing devil’s advocate. shield CAN be used for “offense” to a certain extent. jsut a few examples:
again, anecdotal, and it’s probs more suited for “defense” / protection based / support, but if you play it offensively ; ))
do you mean the other “What to do with Celestial stats” thread? if you look at the people in there, most of them in fact do WvW. well, i can be sure that a handful of them at least are thinking only for WvW. i wouldn’t even consider Celestial for PvE.
re: PvP vs WvW, i agree it’s seeking people to kill but the objectives are quite different as well. WvW you can go wherever you want, sPvP to a certain degree, you are called to be in one spot (node capture), though again depending on your role. seeing your build, i assume you’re just out to kill people so like you said, depends on what you’r set out to do. ; )))
and with THAT being said, i personally don’t think celestial will work for burst builds. for the exact reasons you stated yourself – the huge huge loss in power. i feel it’s more suited to add some crit chance and mainly crit damage to builds that focus on other areas, that may not have access to those crit ratings to start with. so if you’re stickign with 0/30/30/5/5, which i love as well, you’re better off not taking celestial.
haven’t been able to “theorycraft” as much lately, but i want to say celestial might work on some hybrid builds best by adding crit ratings to them. or adding a small boost to condition damage or healing power to other builds. agreed about on the field vs on paper! stats shouldn’t be everything, but at this point, i don’t think anyone can field test celestial gear yet, least not a full set. ://
i personally went for stat infusions. like Lonewolf said, they do add up.
though, i really don’t think think it’s a make or break it.
i would go for karma. simply because i value karma more than magic find and the chance for more/better loot.
lol, that was great. XDD
FALL OF ABADDON please.
though, one day, i hope to see both. lol.
Kite in the night was easier to me than the other two jp’s mentioned. If you watch the video its pretty easy to get to and if you luck out and other people are there the door may already be open.
I tried that one the other day and it was bugged on Tarnished Coast for some reason, so I didn’t mention it. True if the door is open then it’s a good option.
yea on SoR, a coulpe of us were trynig and the door was untargettable for a good 15 minutres since i started looking for it. i tried looking for other triggers but couldn’t find any. so i just decided to hang around and do my daily. and then all of a sudden, the door was targettable, i.e. interactable again so i messaged those that were aroudn earlier who may have left and a bunch of us went to do it. : )) it’s easy if it’s open.. just, couldn’t figure out under what circumstances is the door “open”. a couple of us thought that may the door would be timed before it can be interactable again.
lovin’ the new look!
hmm, i see your woes, my friend.
i personally feel actually the Sun Catcher matches the C-C-WG set better than the Wind Catcher. FDS/LG Gizmo would definitely match Sun Catcher as well.
aww dangit, actually on second thought/look, C-C-WG looks great with Wind Catcher as well lol. i do like the all celestial and i thnk that matches your playstyle, especially with the trait names in the Honor and Virtues line, but i can see how FDS may not fit.
tbh, i’m all about having as many “outfits” and weapon skins as you can… so i’d say get everything lol, but alrighty, final verdict from me:
go with C-C-WG and grab Wind Catcher. I feel that color-combo matches Sunrise better anyhoo, and you can still use FDS/LG Gizmo. Afaik, HOM reward work the same as Zenith weapons do (i didn’t play gw1)? so you can always pull the skins out when you feel like it, both FDS and Zenith. and you’ll have the Celestial Dye and Windcatcher anyways. so you can switch it up if you feel like being a supernova and be like this guy XDDD:
Guardians can definitely do damage in both small and big encounters, with enormous sustain. you can spec for burst, you can spec for sustained DPS.
they can definitely support as well if they choose to. though, even if specced for damage, the Guardian class i feel is intrinsically tied to support. of course, some builds will do it better if they specialise into that. but we’re definitely not limited to.
so for the same reasons, even when pushing the frontline, we have a ton of mechanics to help keep us alive, to survive that initial clash, take people down and survive the battle.
rather than tell you more though, why not see them in action for yourself! a few youtubers with Guardian videos. most of them have a good mix of DPS vs support as well.
IncominggRay’s Guardian Adventures
to name a few. there are definitely more out there but these guys have more than a handful of videos you can check out.
they all have threads here on the forums as well so you can check ‘em out, though a few haven’t been officially updated in a while. and of course, lot more vet gaurds out here who specialize in WvW will be sure to lend you a hand.
nice to see a deviation from your typical x/30/30/x/x RHS builds. though i am rather surprised you aren’t taking it seeing as you’re double wielding 1h weps. what crit chance are you running right now?
and assuming you take Scepter Power? love the updated scepter tbh. ; )))
i’ll admit apart from the first 20 levels, i haven’t touched torch in a LONG time, until i hit sPvP and picked it back up. then i started loving it again, and in WvW, dungeons, anywhere.
p.s. fancy running into you in sPvP that one time ; )) lol
:DD would you guys mind letting us know when the duels may be if we can catch it? would love to catch it in person. ; ))
Based on some of your posts I didn’t think you were into duels.
oh? how so?
just curious. i guess to a certain extent since i don’t actively seek them out but i certainly don’t mind.
p.s. @ stunning – you’ve given me a goal. to be able to hold my own in 1v1’s using staff. haha, i think i sort of put myself in a hole though because i hate getting stuck with staff while in WvW when it’s only against 1 or 2 foes. ; ))) you defs proved me wrong that staff can be good in duels!
(edited by akamon.2769)
i thoroughly enjoyed the video! keep ’em coming, Blasino.
since when were small skirmishes or 3 way battles with stomping no longer fun to be part of or watch?
dem critics. XDD
lol. i love all the noise and responses that are being driven on the forums right now.
great job, ANet.
and OP, precisely my thoughts. couldn’t have illustrated it better! XDDD
agreed too much human lore, BUT regarding an ancient god, that’s a completely different story. apologies, but the Asura tech don’t intrigue me much. they’re cute when they’re slugging giant weapons over their shoulders. but that’s about it. ; ))
i’m just really looknig forward to how the story will change depending on who gets voted.D
i’m defs more intrigued by Fall of Abaddon. and i love Charr. too much emphasis on humans. heck, i’m one IRL. XDD
