that’s the thing in gw2 though, i feel there are no “roles” per se. it’s every man for himself. while everyone in charge of everything. and then it’s just nice to have peeps that know how to help you augment your offensive or defensive capabilities.

forgive me as i am not an avid MMO player, with gw2 being my first, and which, afaik, not your typical MMO with dedicated roles.

and especially as a Guard, you can cleanse, res, buff, reflect, provide stability and then some, all the while doing great DPS as well. : )) which i quite enjoy i have to say.

that could be interesting and giving us an option of having a fire field on a weapon.

although i absolutely LOVE being able to move usign torch 5. how many i’ve downed using torch 5 while they’re trying to run nd yuo chasing them. or thieves in shadow refuge. or just simply repositinoing yourself as enemies move you can hit max enemies and max alleis for cleansing if needed.

haha Harbinger, i’m actually thinking of trying a 15/25/30/0/0 build. with symbols as a means to add further DPS. we’ll see if it actually works. : ))

and Maiden – for PvP have you tried rune of speed? i’ev heard some recommend them since i assume you’ll be roaming more so the extra runnign speed helps. and you get a lot of vit there, so you can focus your ammy back to zerkers. though it’s give and take i geuss of other stats as well.

i’ll be looking for results. : ))

just don’t touch torch 4 and i’m good. sure it may take some time, but it can hit so hard.

time it with JI, shield of wrath, immediately follow up with protector’s strike, that’s potentially up to three 6-9k hits in WvW. that’kittenting up to 18-27k damage within a few seconds.

[added: again, shield of wrath when it goes off will most likely crit higher than zealot’s flame. so why not take both? though if i had to choose ONE, i will admit, it’ll most likely be focus. but i absolutely love playing with both. and with the focus, if you pop the shield mid fight, chances of it going off drops considerably if you plan to use it for DPS. so that focus burst usually happens at the beginning of the fight. where argubly, you can torch 4 back on a shorter CD and you can time it to up your chances of landing the burst. it’s slightly ranged as well (just know when you can afford to use it ranged), albeit single target. compared to mace 3 and focus 5 which are AoE burst.]

also, did you remember if they had vuln stacks, Moleless? that’s what i was thinking, and might stacks on yourself? was it in a group fight?

this is the first time for me seeing a sword and mace MH combo though!

oh mang. i would LOVE a fire field on the hammer lol. and that also would make GS + Hammer combo that much more fun.

i loove the torch. given taht i don’t use it much in PvE. it’s nowhere near being terrible like so many make it out to be. sure it’s not top DPS or utility but it’s not bad.

in WvW / PvP though torch is awesome for burst. though more suited if you’re more offensively geared with high crit ratings. but that’s just me thinking. : ))

i agree, either lower cast time on torch 5, or up DPS, or have it remove at least one condition from yourself when you activate it and then lower duration of other conditions or sth while channeling or sth. add a TEENY bit more utility into it would be nice.

like others have said, that is pretty good for zerging. though if you’re going to roam i’d definitely gear or trait a bit more differently. or with small groups, you can bring similar utility for group support, but definitely gear more offensively so you do more damage and end fights faster.

since Blasino mentioned it, if you’re zerging, Shelter could be more useful since the 2s block while healing can get you through choke points or be extremely clutch lol. while Signet heal i find again better for roaming for the burst heal. though Shelter works as well. it all depends on playstyle : ))

glad you’re enjoying the Guardian in WvW! keep ranking up and when you get Applied Fortitude through the Guard’s Defense line, that’s another 2500 HP you get so you can afford to gear more offensively. changed my game play and options a lot.

and just to note, in case you haven’t thought of food yet.. the – condition duration stuff is pretty nice. though if you can cleanse enough, that’s fine too. then go for more damage oriented food.

and yes to multiple builds! lol i am a build addict. ://

i will say x/30/30/x/x medi burst builds are probably most fun for me for roaming.

you can easily down some squishier builds out of nowhere with Shield of Wrath (focus 5; time it) —> JI + Protector’s Strike (mace 3) + Smite Condition (optional), then switch to hammer and follow up with a Mighty Blow

hey, that wouldn’t be half bad actually. take shattered aegis trait. heal on aegis. retal on aegis. unscathed could be more viable in WvW as well.

depends on the rest of your build i’d say. : ))

full zerker trinkets always seem like a nice bet to me. cause you can use tankier armor if needed and still have decent DPS from trinkets that way.

yea judgment makes sense. the aegis would be nice with that. but all else, at lesat Guardian signets, i don’t see a whole lot of use. so perhaps it really is “designed for” other classes. :ppp heh.

if you don’t mind “spoiling” the dungeons, i would recommend watching some videos or even reading some guides on each explorable path before trying them. just so you get a taste of what to expect. once you learn the mechanics, then dungeons / fractals aren’t all that bad. : ))

and when you first join, let people know you’re new. you can also put up LFG ads and say you’re new and looking for experienced people to help teach you, and taht you’ve read up stuff or watched videos and eager to learn.

you won’t die if you try a fractal now. : )) as logn as you don’t run in head first not knowing anything. mobs do hit harder, have more health and there are just certain mechanics you have to know how to handle and what to do.

if you’re not in a guild already, you can try looking for some on your server that might seem to suit what you enjoy doing. if you’ve had a good dungeon run, add those people and stay in touch so you can keep running with them in the future.

these are shown for lvl 48+ fractals and there was the new fractals patch today but still has great info.

• for the two PvE guides, since you’re relatively new to the Guardian, you can start with knight’s armor. or even try more forgiving builds and you can slowly work your way towards these if you seem to enjoy them. they’re definitely very effective builds by maximizing the Guard’s damage while maintaining the key support we can bring a group.

Ascended gear and recipes and mystic forge, you can start here:

Ascended gear apart from offering slightly more stats (min/maxers will use these in WvW), they also allow you to equip yourself with Agony Resist (AR) which will be helpful for fractal levels 10 and onwards where certain boss moves will have agony and you can’t cleanse apart from getting AR so they don’t do as much damage to you (of course, as you learn more, you’ll be able to avoid most agony related attacks entirely. though there are some unavoidable ones. and again, new fractals so we’ll have to see)

also just check the wiki for different mystic forge recipes. the wiki and dulfy’s site all provide good info in general.

Amins – you are a fan already it seems heh
Oozo – he does more necro/warrior videos recently. but his old Guardian vids were fun to watch.
Tap Dat Mouse – various builds in WvW and PvP. the symbol focused build is extremely powerful.
Incomingg Ray – great WvW smallg roup gameplay. with a stronger focus on healing / support lately
Zodin Vii – PvP burst Guard

its’ to juke out your enemies! while you yell out retreat, but charge towards them.

i think ultimately it depends on where YOU want to see your stats as a Guardian. i used to have thresholds of 3k armor and 16k health. now i run builds that have as “little” as 2.5k armor or 14k health in WvW. though, recently with all the condition tank builds out there, and i finally picked up Applied Fortitude, my health usually sits way higher. if i can survive and feel comfortable, i’ll push my defensive stats and try to max offensive stats. like you, many don’t expect Guardians to hit that hard (though that may be changing) so you can catch many by surprise.

but keep trying different builds. i change my build every week in WvW. though more often than not, it’s damage focused one way or another. it’s just too fun. : )) while being “tanky” though blinds, blocks, boons, cleansing and some other form of sustain. i’ve realized the best way for me to play my GUard is to play really aggressively. of course, also be smart of when to disengage or when to engage even.

last week, i was playing a build similar to Got Boons with my own tweaks. your standard 10/30/30/0/0 DPS build. with 2.8-9k power, lovely crit ratings, 2.5-6karmor, and 17k health consistently hitting 6-9k’s worth of shield of wrath (focus 5), zealot’s fire (torch 4 throw) and protector’s strike (mace 3). and survivability was pretty decent.

when i first started, i got tossed around a lot in WvW lol. (and tbh, i still do now sometimes) but just stick with it cause it sounds like you love the Guardian a lot : ))) good luck and enjoy!!!!

there are some great Guardian vets out there you can learn from.

the main problem i see is if you’re actively using Aegies, it needs to be instant, F3, Retreat.. most of our signets won’t be able to give you that. sure they don’t take THAT long. but if you’re trying to pop an aegis to block a big hit, by the time you see it and hit the button, you’ll be hit and then cast your aegis which will probably be taken off by an auto attack. and this is in a situation where you’re in a small fight so you don’t have random AoE’s flyign all over the place.

though, we will see how the aegis related traits work out. damage. heals, etc. sometimes i run with Signet of Resolve and Bane Signet so that’s two more aegis, but often, when i have signets on, i’d want to keep them up as long as possible unless i REALLY need them. and to sacrifice that for an aegis? hmmm. decisions. decisions.

and runes of resistance. meh. not a big deal to me.. yet. we’ll have to see if it picks up or not in WvW.

recall the light armor!! make a reskin of karma armor or sth like you did with the heavy (unsure what the medium was).

personally, flashier =/= better for me. as in this case, the OG Human T3 is way classier than this new flamey one. and i love flame on some of me armor. but it just doesn’t look as nice. but the fact that it is pretty much based off Cultural armor and now anyone can wear it.. not sure how to feel about it. so imagine those that worked their butt off to make that gold to get that set. part of the “end-game” for gw2 is getting the look that you want. to be vain. to show off your latest set. cultural armor meant something. “AWW i wish i was a charr so i could get that helm!” “mang, i love the asura set” “i’m gonna go roll a human warrior now” nope. none of that anymore.

many peple will covnert gold to gems. many will even pay for it with IRL money. and there are a TON of things that could be done for sales – not this.

(am sure many love t his set.. but come up with something else that will leave people’s mouths watering. don’t mess with existing “systems”).

love the graphics as well. saw this on reddit as well so am sure you’ve gathered a lot of info regarding the build itself.

@OP – for me, the valor line is all or nothing.

maybe 10 points could be worth it for certain builds but again it’s nice to have and i’d rather spend them elsewhere if not going full 30 (usually for WvW/PvP as well). i try to pick up crit damage from food and/or gear in that case.

yes, i know it takes 50 A’s to make up for one C (my GPA from way back when can attest to this :PPP). but hey, they are worth that much more and it’s up to you what you want to do with the good and bad you’re given. okay, maybe the A’s and C’s wasn’t the best example… but you know what i mean. lol.

loved it in the last skirmish when you saw your necro friend falling behind a bit, getting mauled soon and you turned and went back for them. and you stomped one and you both got out alive! when i try to pull a stunt like that, i usually die lol. for that, i’ll let the quotations on awesome roamers slide ; )) haha who am i kidding. what are roamers? XDD

its’ really hard to say. certain bosses, high toughness attracts ‘em. others, maybe high damage. proximity. rezzing. what have you… there isn’t supposed to be an aggro system in the game so it’s pretty “random” in that sense. lol.

most ikely a combination of the pugs you’re in, their stats, your stats, etc and they just happen to aggro on you lol. better luck next week? XDD

to me personally, symbol builds work best in WvW/PvP and the basis of a symbol build is x/x/30/20/x

Valor – self sustain through Altrustic Healing or Monk’s focus
Honor – III and X for larger and healing symbols, respectively

most symbol builds seem to run with AH since you get boons from your symbols but i personally prefer the meditation variant.

i’ve been playing with 15/0/30/20/5 recently or maybe even switch to a 20/0/30/20/0 for vuln on symbols to see how that works. if you can get two symbol drops on someone, you can get up to 8 vuln stacks iirc, so you can time for some burst then. the symbols can tick pretty high, add in burst from GS2 or Mace 3 (though mace 3 is harder to use in PvE since mobs hit slow).

i’ve seen variants like 5/0/30/30/5, 0/5/30/30/5, 0/10/30/30/0 as well..

started to reply to a few folk talking down to SoR. even posted one, but deleted it. i apologize if anyone happened to catch it. can’t help but feel attacked personally when throw dirt in your face. time and time again, i can’t stress this enough.. yes there is competition, yes, there is rivalry.. but personal attacks are never, ever called for. we all reside on our own servers, because we love them. because we feel we belong. because we have a place to call home in this game. why feel the need to attack that?
