remember, everyone started somewhere. one of the most important things, even before having willing teachers / vets, is having a willing mind to learn and experience yourself. you’ve gone out there and proven yourself. who knows, in no time you may be teaching the ropes to someone else who is new to WvW. ; ))

^^^ i don’t think that’s necessarily true. there’s a fine line. sure sometimes, that may be the case. but sometimes, not.

when smaller groups are able to beat larger groups, one of the reasons it’s because you’re able to slowly whittle your opponent’s group down.

either or, what i cited was just ONE example of how the ressing fully dead mechanic affects gameplay.

i know you said you don’t like crafting, but this is by far the easiest one to do this month. many people have given great suggestions. you can just get the mats, set it to however many you need to craft, click Craft. then leave go to the toilet, check out a new song on youtube, read ahlf a comic, cmoe back.. and you’ll have your monthly.

if you dislike crafting THAT much to do that, and then missing out on a monthly, then i donno what to say. : ((( you can do it!!!

it’s a decent build. i don’t think celestial is bad for Guardians, but if you’re willing to put in the extra time and work to mix and match sets, you can definitely come up with something better. though if you’re going the standard x/x/30/30/x builds, you can build up impressive stats. relatively high healing, while still having decent crit chance and crit damage. however, your low power is the only issue. in WvW, i would definitely stack via bloodlust sigil as well as aim to get Guard Leech for a total of 350 increased power. which still puts you below 2k power.

again, it’s not bad. it’s flexible to a certain extent. it can be good. i’ve tried a full set as well in WvW and while i did okay, it was nothing special. i definitely feel like i perform better in my mixed sets.

but yes, DEFINITELY wait for ascended armor to come out and go from there.

that’s what i’m hoping. i mean, not a big deal in the end, but we shall see in 6 days time.

a lot of times people run temples after reset.

and if you see temples active on your server, you can always ask around and a handful of peolpe actually make certain temple runs easier.

the other day 2 manned Grenth (though we DID both die and Grenth died to DoTs lol so we rallied – but that was an issue of us not clearing the shades properly) and then 3 more came for the defend event. yesterday we 5-6 manned melandru. so they are still doable. : ))

haha, yea, and it’s something that’s been around since release. it only makes sense. but sionce torch 4 doesn’t put “burning” on you, then you don’t get the fury. though do note, depending on which game mode you’re in, it can be a decent trait if you have no other access to fury and there’s no other trait you could take. in sPvP or even WvW for example. if you’re up against a Guard, you’ll knwo for sur eyuo’ll have burning, ie fury uptime since they burn you just by attacking you. same for against engi’s, ele’s, even necros.

and yes spam sword 1. the sword auto attack chain is extremely strong. minimal difference but know that sword autoattack(AA) 1, AA2 are cleaves while sword AA3 is a cone (and they are also projectiles for some reason).

GS auto gives might but i don’t think it’s that big of a deal. GS you usually use for the burst from WW, or utility from the pull with GS 5.

i assume you can turn say a decent sized heal (something like shelter), close to a burst heal, just below Signet of Resolve. so say.. 4-5k+2k=6-7k

though if course, we’ll have to see come release day.

maybe not as big an issue, wonder how much it’ll cost for the new heal skills. and was it said that if unlocked in PvE, we get it automatically in PvP ya?

sounds like a solution in the making already. i agree with this and think it’d be beneficial to the WvW community. once we were in SM lord’s room, and we were doing pretty good taking people down but we didn’t ahve enough to clear the entire room so we were moving aroudn a lot. and we’d always spot people ressing full dead. and they’d just stay there and wait for peoepl to pwoer res them, because they had the numbers.

again, another issue that reinforces the need for numbers over all.

you can always give runes of Speed a shot. the extra vitality is nothing to scoff at, especialyl with all the condi spammers / tanks that run in groups. may not be perfect, but it’s a decent alternative. love it with my burst medi sPvP build.

this does almost seem too good to be true. though, i am extremely excited. i think the best part of it is that the heal itself is INSTANT. that to me, is very very very strong. shelter? yes the 2s has saved me so many times. as well as it getting interrupted against good players or tough luck on my end and completely screwed me over. SoR is a great heal as well, burst heal at that. but also easily interruptable. i don’t have much experience with healign breeze, but i assume can be interrupted as well.

so say you’re a 16k HP medi MF guard. you go down to 50% health. you can start say for example, a WW in a group of 5 enemies + pop LoW at the same, insta heal up to say 85%+ (assuming it is around a 4-5kbase heal), get fury, your WW crits more, and you finsish off to top yourself off with the healing based on damage (though of course, will depend on how this scales as well). best part though, really is that it’s instant, and you can keep on the offense while healing. and it’ll push Guards to play more offensively because you knwo the more damage you do, the more you’ll get healed.

now i wonder if it would ONLY be worth it in a traited meditation build. obviously, if you’re going medi’s, i would assume it’s a very strong skill to take.

wait, wait a sec. completely overlooked this detail. is Gandalf using MH sword and OH Staff???

hmm. what about also adding this small feature – if people with max ranks, or ranks in general show up above the little cogwheel, indicating what level they are as well? so if you see someone with just a plain old cog, i.e. 0 invested for that specific siege, you could then be proactive and politely takeover lol. without everyone having to spam F to check to see if they are higher level or not?

if you know Peetee, and were on the same server as him, i can tell you from my point of the view, most of the time he is not running with the zerg. sure he’ll help out when the Commander calls for help, but most of the time he’s running havoc or scouting and doing his own thing. for fun, and for the server.

secondly, is it really that hard to understand that what one person says or does does not equal the entire server? i thought that horse was done beaten good.

@Asu – you’ve told me before if everyone on SoR could be “nicer” and “reasonable”, everyone would benefit. but you’ve shown nothing but being worse than some of the well-known SoR trolls yourself. i won’t ask you to be nicer. i won’t ask for your respect to my fellow server mates. people act the way they want to. but if you have time, do have a thought about how you lash out to so many on here and see what it does for you.

for those asking for it to be removed, does it affect you in a negative light? if so, how? if it doesn’t bother you, causing you less enjoyment in the game, then why not leave it be for those who enjoy it? sure, they may not measure actual skill and ability to perform in the game in its current state.. which is what i assume the new ladder system and reward system will be for. so you can get go test yoruself there. again, i don’t see the rationale of completely wiping the rank system. if anything, it can be indication of how long you’ve played the game. that in itself is worth something else is it not? afterall, time is the only think we can’t buy. and is simply another form of dedication and passion for something.

Regarding ranks, why does one have to exclude the other? Why can’t the current rank system remain and new emotes and titles be added for people who work their way up through the ladder.

Maybe you can’t go into much detail yet, but how would the ladder system and titles/emotes work?

It’s not just ladder tiers/divisions replacing ranks. The future reward blog will likely cover things for people that are more interested in long term investment type rewards.

for myself personally, and others can speak up if they feel the same as well, that the ranks and titles and finishers and the /rank emote is what i set for myself as long term goals. though not necessariyl an investment, but i would like to hear more on the choice of taking those out as long term personal achievements or goals as well.

am very glad to see the reward systems being revamped, but i don’t see the harm in keeping the rank and finishers as well to continue to be earnable through dedicated time and play.

i know. to be more clear, i would cherish the finishers more than the rank itself. though, they are indications of how far you got in ranks. i’d like to be able to continue achieve and earn rank, for the rank and more so their associated finishers.

just wanetd to come in here and say is it possible to not remove the ranks though? and especially the finishers tied to them. don’t let them be a determining factor in the ladders and what not, but allow them to remain in the game. they can be seen as lifetime achievement awards. i don’t play enough sPvP since i play PvE and WvW as well and with limited time, i have to choose where i spend my time. so i saw myself though not likely in the near future making next ranks, but i would definitely love to achieve tiger, shark, etc going forward. for me, as silly as it may sound, will keep me playing the game and wanting to log in.

as for those who’ve worked hard, yes they will get to keep the finishers, but to have their ranks completely stripped would not be the best solution, i can imagine. sure, some may argue that then ranks don’t matter at all. but this is an MMO, people like to hoard, to collect, to reach goals, and that in itself, i believe warrants a reconsideration into how the rank system , or simply, the ranks themselves and titles / finishers tied to them will and can evolve.

However, perhaps don’t have them relate to the ladders and how peolpe get paired up with one another, but leave the feature in. it can sort of be a personal goal type thing, IN ADDITION to the new awesome rewards you guys will be introducing.

i don’t think the ranks themselves or the finishers were/are the issue.

if this is because of the farmers, then all will be achieved is actually rewarding them, by being able to keep the finishers, as well as punishing those who may have been slowly workign towards the next rank but decided to do it legitiamtely.

though to note, unless if sth changed recently, and assuming you meant to keep air on your MH and then add generosity to your OH… all sigils share the same cooldown. including on-swap as well as on-crit. in the case of MH and OH sigils, the MH one will trigger before the one in the OH.

so in your example, if you had air on MH and generosity in OH..

1) Crit —> checks air --> air procs on MH —> both air and gen will go on CD for 5s (air CD) before either can be activated again

2) Crit —> checks air —> Air doesn’t proc --> checks gen —> gen procs --> both air and gen will go on CD for 10s (gen CD)

3) Crit —> checks air —> Air doesn’t proc --> checks gen —> gen doesn’t proc --> no CD and will repeat process on next crit

…is how i think it works.

here’s another take on it. i did use full ascended weapons as well as trinkets.

i haven’t slotted in sigils / infusions yet so you can always tweak it a bit more. runes of divinity can be pricey and of course you lose some rune utility depending on how you want to play your build. you also lock in Valor IV and VI to get these stats lol so it’s leaning towards Altruistic Healing, i’m assuming. hits 2k power, which what i generally aim to do in any given build for me personally. and a little HP.

also, keep in mind if you’re WvW-ing long term, i’d suggest maxing the two Guard lines with your WXP / ability points. that’s an extra 2500HP and 100 Power and 100 Condi damage after killing 5 enemy guards. huge buff especially in terms of being able to play around with your build more.

@Artemis and OP – iirc, and tested it real quick, unless if the site’s bugging out for me, gw2skills.net doesn’t reflect Strength in Numbers so add another 150 to toughness (3.6k armor!)

i was in a dungeon or fractal with a so-called healing specced Guardian. and we had times where we wiped. why didn’t he support us enough? why did he go down himself? maybe cause the fights dragged out longer than it could have been achieved.

if you enjoy a certain way of playing, then by all means go for it. and like mentioned, got for it with like-minded people. there’s no need to rain down on somebody else’s parade.

people need to stop saying “no zerkers”. it should be “no zerkers that don’t know how to play in zerkers”. there’s a major difference. if i have my 10 month old son (and yes, i am using an extreme example) in full cleric’s gear and have him take on Lupi, will he be able to survive for sure, jsu cause he’s specced for “support” and “healing”? probably not, beacuse he has no idea what he’d be doing. so, stay with me here, it’s not JUST the gear that determines the outcome any given fight. the skill of said player is more important, i daresay. and even more so, the MIND SET of said player.

i’ve written in other threads, and though i am not there yet and may not make it to those ranks in any meaningful time period, there definitely should be something done further than just getting rid of glory and ranks altogether.

again, goes back to rewarding those who were able to achieve far more using unconventional methods. sure, you can’t stop them… but does it fix the problem, or even address the issue at all? by punishing those who are working very hard and legitimately?

i do agree, please keep the ranks!! it’s nice that people are able to keep the ranks that they’ve unclocked.. but i personally LOVED the idea of the animal ranks. sure, realistically it may have taken me years upon years to get say.. the Shark which i frigging love. i’d love the tiger as well. only dolyak now and i hope to get wolf…

heh, bumping this up. with the new fractal update, figured a lot of Guardians could use this. it’s certainly helped me a ton.

i know there’s an opening between the gate and arch. can you really place a LoW inside though? have never tried though. that’s pretty crazy lol.

@Crapgame – just thinking out loud here – mace/focus + GS is a widely used symbol DPS build in PvP, and i think quite a few use it in WvW as well. the mace, albeit clunky feeling and the innate healing factors tied to it, many see it as a “support only” weapon. quite the contrary, the mace can definitely do a lot of damage. especially with the focus 5 and mace 3 combo – tonz of aoe burst. though the range is short and swings slower.. play aggressively and stick to your target and mace gets very strong. due to to the healing factors, blocks and blind from focus, it can be pretty tanky as well if you need it to be. it’s a great balance between offense and defense imo.

pairing it up with the hammer makes it even more tanky and the cc you get from the hammer can help you utilize your symbols more, which do a ton of damage as well.

@Amins/Dynnen et al – i would actually love to come over and fight with you guys one of these days. if you’d have me of course. seems too much fun.

Like most Anti-Blackgate propaganda, the 2v1 was fabricated by the SoR trolls and IRON trolls. From what I can tell, any one that really matters on SoR is re-focusing on there community and rebuilding there vision of fun and worrying less about map politics. I know most these comments are meant to be jabs at each other but keep in mind a lot of what was said in week 2 was said by people that are no longer on SoR.

really appreciate this, Zikory. of course, there are still many on SoR that want to win fights, that care about PPT. fact of matter is, we’re not what we were a few months ago, or even at the beginning of the season! but i can tell you as an SoR native, i know and feel in our heart of hearts, that the server is still there. and we are working hard to better prep ourselves and the community for the days to come. love fighting you guys. i wish we could be giving you bigger, better fights right now, the final week of the season, as well. for the ones that you are getting now, i pray that they are enjoyable.

i know at least, for me, when i get on to play, i always have a good time. usually wiping better than getting wiped, for obvious reasons. but at the end of the day, i always find reason to log back on to fight, especially against either of you. plenty of good fighters and good company.

scepter is good for roaming. for zergs, i’d say staff or hammer are better options. though taking out cannons / burning oils, etc scepter is very nice. : ))) if you’re able to immobilize someone who happens to step on the ledge, you can easily down them as well with Smite (scepter 2) and just auto-ing, depending on how squishy they are.

the build Akktu linked is geat for Guard roaming and very good burst, as well as sustained DPS. though again, more suited for roaming. i personally throw in some solider’s or valkyrie gear depending to get more toughness or vitality. usually i try to grab more vitality.

though i run with 10/30/30/0/0 for either falling damage reduction when i need to take large jumps, if not, generally it’s 10% more dmg on burning foes for more burst.

i also run with mace/torch + scepter/focus instead. or sword/focus + scepter/torch. to base is from my perspective is x/25/30/x/x. 30 in Radiance is very strong if you take both MH+OH combos, but if you’d want to use 2H weapon as well, you can give up 5 in Radiance and put it elsewhere you think could help.

had some fun in BGBL last night. first night of the week, not too shabby. looking forward to more this week folk. and here comes the end of season one. /salute to all servers and guilds and individuals alike who put in hard work for their server!

one of my highlights throughout out. i grouped with some SoRers while zerging one night and one Guardian who was new to WvW, and came in because of LS or leagues or whatever you want to call it and while we were chatting:

“all i want to do is WvW now. it’s so fun!D”

and they’ve been consistently ranking up, asking questions, willing to learn and having a ton of fun. sure, leagues brought both “bad” and “good”, but the good, in my mind, definitely outweighs the bad.
