Well that’s given. You trusted a stranger. But my experience was much worse.

I was in a PvE guild and it was the elections. I posted in guild chat about betting the elections. i bet on obama. he bet on romney. obama won and he would not even pay for it. it was only 1 gold (1 gold because i intend to pay up when i lose. and imagine if it was 30g or something). but he wont kittening pay up. and this guy had multiple legendaries and kitten. and worse, someone bailed him out. because of this, i didn’t become active in the guild and just leeched the buff and later on left.

So kitten people.

In your first post you mentioned you use WoR on a melee boss and then “people look afk then disconect”….. What? Im confused about this, so multiple people “look afk and then disc” when you WoR a melee boss??

You’re an odd man, the way you phrase some of your posts, and then others seem almost like two different people talking :O .

yea, my first post was not thought out seriously. it was just a starting post to get my post across. and i didn’t have enough sleep when i posted that, iirc.

what i meant was that “when i use WoR on a melee boss, the other guard looks afk at first and then he disconnects.” it was an anecdotal quote.

The last 2 successive posts were not me replying to myself. it was another post to update the thread. just to be clear about that lol.

i was a psych major in uni / college, and i especially loved social psych. so this is quite interesting actuallly and kind of intrigued by your “results”, if any. while i personaly don’t condone “staging” experiences, even though you don’t do it all the time or for trolling purposes. but it does show you how people react and if you work well together or if you’d like to play with them in the future. i guess in a sense, it’s picking and choosing, but it’s the same IRL to a certain extent. if there’s someone who’s consisntely AFK or just mouths people off for even harmless mistakes, you probably don’t want to play with them again. that being said, i see where you’re coming from, but can also see many people not getting this. heh. especially since most people feel invested in fractals, let alone at high levels and when they feel they have to deal with people below “par” according to their standard, they feel it’s a drag, and not worth their time.

yeah. i also accept the consequences of this. that people might not play with me again if they feel that i am being a dead weight on the team, which is not what i do really and i dont intend to do. and the fact alone that i post my ign in this forum and posted this thread will be easier for them to red flag me or do the troll back on me instead. first impressions last and no one gets the second base based on a bad kiss on the first date. yeah. but i am glad that someone is getting this and i appreciate your words.

i see people not getting the point or taking offense on this. i don’t blame them. but do you know why people are hazed when they join a fraternity or the army? same concept, but different application. need testing to see who’s worthy to be added in my friendslist. i couldn’t haze them. but i could pose being a bad player to see their attitudes and personality, if they’re cool, they might be a good, patient and relaxed person irl.

this could happen back to me. but i certainly know who is just doing this to kitten off people or being a troll. im not that naive.

Anyway, i had a funny experience that led me think that someone might’ve read this and remembered my ign. I’m in group with him and playing with my ranger. First run, he was doing ok. Then when we finished the level, i decided to run with him again. I noticed that he was dying a lot now. But i still ran with him in another level. Still he dies.

One with common sense will sense if someone does it in purpose. If you die once, its fine. you’ll learn how to avoid it. but if you die zillion times because you tank a champion boss on your light armor, it’s obvious that you’re being a f-tardo and being a baggage to a team.

You may encounter people like me or worse the trolls and kitten who tank with their light armor the champion bosses. If you do encounter someone that purposely makes the run very difficult, you can do it for the team and carry on, finish the map and just avoid the dude later on.

alcopaul.2156

I love pugging (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Pugging-Guards-Perspective) with my guard in FoTM. and I found this very easy to run and as a way of giving back to the community, ill share my secret build to you. It can sustain a 4 man (1 guard, 3 dps) or a 5 man single guardian teams (of course 2 guard team is very easy with this). I haven’t tried this in level 30+ though (not that hardcore @ lvl 28 currently) but it should be fine.

Zeal – 10
Radiance – 0
Valor – 10
Honor – 30
Virtues – 20

Why the setup? Because at 10 Zeal, we could get VI Spirit Weapon Mastery (Spirit weapon skills recharge 20% faster. ) I found Shield of the Avenger very useful in all the maps and this trait must be a must. And in times that you would only face easy bosses, you can swap in your bar the Sword and the Hammer spirit weapons for additional DPS. This is coupled with V Improved Spirit Weapon Duration (Spirit weapons last 50% longer.), which we got covered by putting 20 in our Virtues.

Spirit weapons are versatile. I like the Bow spirit weapon for additional AoE heal if mobs get heavy and DPSing your entire team while your Regen boon is on cooldown.

Valor – 10

The reason for this is Strength in Numbers. + 70 toughness x 5 can’t be thrown out to the bin. And it compensates for the lack of Armor since you only got 10 in this trait. in my case, I got base3000 armor when on shield and 2900+ armor when on staff, which is not that bad and the +70 toughness raises these, again which is not that bad.

Honor – 30

Here we got II Superior Aria, which is useful when you use Stand your Ground and Hold the Line. “Retreat!” also in the Cliffside map. In maps wherein there are a lots of KDs, Stand your Ground is very useful

And IX Two-Handed Mastery (Two-handed weapon skills recharge 20% faster. ) Very useful when you’re wielding the staff for Empower. Empower is +15 might(with virtue of justice) each for 5 people which, if combined, is a huge dps boost and probably better than the dps of an average guardian [yeah + 15 might on 4 people plus + 15 might on your weak kitten staff. imagine that +15 might on a zerker specced warrior and if they are 2 then boom]. It’s also useful to give you that emergency heal. Forget Altruistic Healing. No AH is more bad kitten That’s the main reason why i use Two Handed Mastery

XII Battle Presence. I found that the constant Regen can’t be beat. Poison? Bleeding? Eat it. Battle Presence and Boon Regen. But there are certain parts in some maps that are condition heavy.. and with this you can swap to Pure of Voice. Cool! But i dont use Pure of Voice. I’m more of a Battle Presence officionado. And for Condition Removal, I swap between the Bow spirit weapon or Save Yourselves. But it’s up to you. It’s available for you to swap. And if you’re in a 2 guard team and you see “Immune” pop up every some seconds, that means most likely he’s also using Battle Presence. If you’re that tactful, you could switch to Pure of Voice or you could talk about who’s using what based on the healing power that you both have.

Virtues – 20

The only reason to just have virtues at 20 is to have Absolute Resolution, Elite Focus, Improved Spirit Weapon Duration, and Consecrated Ground available to you to swap.

You can swap spirit weapons, tome of courage, Sanctuary/Wall of reflection and have that extra Healing when you use that healing virtue. So at 20 virtues, you can have a versatile build that suits for the different objective in different map. Lack DPS and need Shield of the Avenger? Covered. Need wall of reflection? Covered. Dont wanna die in Maw? Covered. That absolute resolution adds extra healing and has a placebo that your battle presence is healing at higher ticks (which should be fixed by A.NET) imo.

So that’s basically the rationale

Weapons used

Cleric’s Staff with Sigil of life, Cleric’s Scepter With Sigil of Life/Shield with Sigil of Energy
Cleric’s Spear/Trident with Sigil of Life
optional: Cleric’s GS with Sigil of Life just for the Tentacles

Superior Sigil of Life so youll get that + 250 healing

Armor: Rurik’s Armor (Cleric’s) Runes 3 Water/3 Monk

Trinkets

Backpiece and Rings: (P)VT to have + 25(+ 30) AR (healing power reduxed to 1,222 base but is compensated by sigil of life and nourishment)
Earrings and Amulet: Clerics

Food: Peach Pie (+ 80 healing, + 60 vitality) (You can do omnom berry version if you have cash) I needed the + healing to have that clutch regen and the +60 vitality for the reason that we all know.

This is basically a a build that seats on a Static Spec(10/0/10/30/20) that is versatile and can adapt to different map objectives by modification of traits and skillbar.

Enjoy,

so i’ve pugged 99% of my level in FoTM and most of my encounters with them are smooth. smooth as in no one is talking and the flow of the events are like placed like falling dominoes. everything falls together. but i encounter a few bumps while im pugging.

1.) i notice when the group becomes heavy, people start blaming people or people "DC"s.
2.) i notice when i deliberately use wall of reflection when the only target is a melee boss to size up the guardian team mate that i have, he starts to look afk and disconnect from a map.

but there are good parts

1.) some people are patient and encourages the group to do well and try again
2.) if map is impossible, all goes out well and consider it a day.
3.) patient and relaxed people don’t mind the deaths.

i size up my pugs. i try to gauge the vibe. as i said, i use wall of reflection on a melee boss. or not use the skills on harpies that i fall everytime. or use 2 spirit weapons sword and hammer at the same time. i purposely die (but there are unavoidable circumstances when i get ganked or stand on a multiple stacked aoe and appear to my partymates that i get 1 shotted and prolly wearing a mf armor (while i really wear Rurik’s armor))

Guardian and Elementalist aren’t good at healing. No class is good at healing. They may be relatively good (better than other classes, though I disagree) but they aren’t good. If you are doing nothing but healing you are greatly underperforming in your group. You can have more support or less support, but if all you do is support you’re a waste of space.

Not in GW2.

i like the healing system that we have now. it’s simple, not overly complicated and the mechanics is not too overly dependent on dedicated healing.

it’s possible to have a dedicated healer (the setup for fotm is 2 support 3 dps) but it is also possible to not have a dedicated healer (5 balanced self sufficient chars). Not bad. The team build setup is not static, which is good.

I see where you are coming from… When I get a wipe in the frost fractal while fighting the ice element the usual 2 things will happen. Someone will say ‘really guys? this part is super easy’ or no one will talk at all and continue to complete the stage.

The way you conduct your ‘mini test’ won’t change any outcome for the most part. From the looks of it your already in a high level FotM and to be in that level most if not all people are already above the average skill level.
Pugging in high level FotM is 99.9% smooth. I think if you feel that if your parties personalities is the problem maybe you should just learn to ignore that and carry on normally.

well this ‘mini test’ is essential for me to know if the people that i’ll add in my list are dependable. i don’t want to add people based on a perfect run because i know that there will be time that i probably ill perform badly and i don’t want to have people in my friendslist who are not patient and relaxed aka perfectionists.

but i get you. you’re a perfectionist who doesn’t have a personal buffer for error i suppose.

look, when someone fails in a group, personalities of your team mates come out. some will offer you encouragement or check you out, some will just be forgiving and carry on, and some will just diss you out of a sudden.

me having this mindset is opening myself to the scenario that my pugs are not always perfect. that someone dies or fails because of probably unfamiliarity or inexperience or having bad day in game. i try to be forgiving.

again, i don’t purposely drag my team down or be rude or grief. i do my mini tests, IF I FEEL LIKE IT AND DO IT SUBTLELY. if they pass, i play normally and add them in my list. if they fail, i play normally in successive maps and say “ty and hf and gl.” and poof.

Top players will always present the full potential of a profession (it’s what makes them top players) and balance should be based off that. I don’t care if a half-decent Mesmer is able to beat a similarly half-decent Necromancer every single time; it’s a totally different scenario at the top.

If you do this, you get what you call “bias”. Top players will remain at the top because the game favors their playstyle. And balancing according to what they think and want is not “balanced”.

What we should have is an independent body doing independent analysis and balancing. With this, no players are favored.

Do you think that sports were modified throughout the years because their respective top players thought that this or that is better? no. there were independent theorists and sport scientists who are probably bad in playing the sports but are good in the theories behind the sports and were responsible with the evolution.

it’s up to the game designers to draw in the whiteboard the mechanics set in stone and balance their game. you will know that they are competent if they do it independently and know what their doing. opinions are welcome but their decision is final.

Other than that, PUGs are full of people too. They might be a “Pug” to you, but they could have 4 friends/guild members in that party, and to them, you’re the pug. Now if you decide you want to be “Purposely bad,” these 4 friends/guildmates are going to consider you as dragging the team down, which you are. So to them, you’re the pug, and you’re helping give pugs a bad name.

when its a 3 to 4 friends/guild, i behave. i know my place. i try my best.

when its all random, i sometimes do silly stuffs. but i don’t purposely drag my team down. i want to finish the map too. i want to run it smoothly. but if i want to check their attitude or play pranks, then i do my silly thing.

i gauge the pug to know their attitude. it’s a personal experiment for me. when i purposely die, i dont make it obvious. say if i get spiked, i don’t heal immediately, and die, that type. not purposely placing my char on swarms of mob.

i don’t do it all the time. once in a while or when i feel like it.

there is only one instance that a pug mouthed me because i started old tom in the harpies map. it doesn’t usually happen. it didn’t happen to me in the past because my previous teams know how to react fast. well this guy just told me to wait for people to type “r” before attacking. well wtf.

i also propose that everyone gets the same MF as the person with the highest MF in the group so at least that guy will have something contribute to the party other than his constant deaths.

Haha, yeah that would be great.

it is. it will make new “gear” roles. one guy takes care of the AR. one guy takes care of the MF. and the three other guys can wear their maxed DPS/Support gear without ascended items (for now since we got limited build stats at the moment) gimping their build.

And then since the entire group now has perfect stats, then can now go afk and get free rewards at the end.

In fact, forget the dungeon. Instead you get a mail daily that gives you some fractal rewards.

yeah, so the quote by mike o brien “we don’t make grindy games.” will be forever be true.

if you’re a friend, you will play at level 2 with him anyway. no need to bring him at your level. you will steam roll it because the ai is not that hard.

I’d imagine most scenarios will involve a ‘tier group’ ala 2 lvl 21s, 2 level 23s, and a level 25 are all willing to do a level 25. That [b]alone[b] will make finding groups much faster than currently, and is a good thing!

everything will settle down to that tiered group anyway. coz they are closely leveled and the experience i assume is almost equal.

and is a good thing i also think.

I suppose the big question is how will agony affect the lower level player. If, in the given example, a level 1 is brought along on a fotm 21 run and hit with level 21-appropriate agony, I’m not sure how many groups will want that level 1 along (unless it is an alt fed some rings as mentioned) for that reason alone.

it won’t if that level 2 char is fed with +20 ar items gotten from his main.

so as ive said, change is good for alt leveling. unless a.net does things like there will be no agony on level 2 char or the ai is downscaled to level 2 mobs, which is additional (programming) tasks for them to implement, then itll be good for true low levels. the only issue is their actual experience that they bring to the team. will they be an asset or a baggage?

the only possible scenario of heart of the mist becoming free to play is the freeversion having disabled features (less skills, less runes, less weapons) but the good thing is that there’s nothing stopping people from making a league out of it. but if you get to face people with the full package because they bought the game, you will eventually buy the game anyway.

Some posters here need to reread the blog post. Rewards you recieve are based on your actual level. A level 2 cannot farm ascended gear. So there is in fact a disincentive for low level players to go too high as they will have all the difficulty, the higher health pools on bosses etc, but none of the reward. Noobs as you call them will not be sneaking into level 40 fractals because it would make no sense for them to do so. The only reason they might do this is if the only groups on the whole server are running 40 plus. This might happen eventually I suppose but for a long time new players will be grouping with players in the 1-10 category because that doesnt require agony resist. Players will generally go for the group that is the lowest possible number that can raise them a level.

do you think that the high level fractal map will be tailored for the low levels? are you saying that the team will get different instances of mobs (like for the low levels much easier ai and for the higher level the actual ai)?

it’s most likely that the mobs that they’ll face will reflect the actual level of the party maker. and the low levels have to deal with that.

make a guardian alt with the pauldrons. next, transmute it to a white item. put it in your bank. then let your main guardian get it and transmute it to its pauldrons.

i hope they show the true level of each persons in the party.

otherwise, if you played badly coz of reasons unknown, you will be suspected of being a low level in your party.

And if your fractal level is shown, and you are a low level, you will be booted without hesitation and this entire change is for nothing. No gear score, no inspections, nothing..is what I vote for. Keep everyone on “equal footing” in eachothers mind. If you stand in fire, thats your own kitten fault and they’ll boot you for standing in the fire, not for your fractal level. Id rather be booted because I screwed up, not because of a number next to my name.

i don’t mind levels actually. but my experience is that i can do smooth runs with my higher level fractal character than with my alt which is level 3 atm. i notice that these low levels are the ones that are ragequitting a lot. out of my zillion runs in my high level fractal char, i only encountered 3 disconnects. and in my low level character, a lot.

so that told me that these low levels have no patience and rage quit when the team gets heavy, which is natural because most of the team are still not experienced.

you can deduce from above that level means experience. and if you pug and high level, you know how to adapt to the group and perform accordingly. higher level means that you got enough experience to know what you’re doing.

and levels should be shown in the party window. if not, you will see lying noobs being carried.

What’s to prevent me on my level 80 thief whose at level 2 with full berserker’s gear who is traited purely for offense and is nearly useful in fractals, saying I’m at level 30 with 25 AR and joining a level 30 fractal run in an effort to get carried.

What’s to stop me from putting on full magic find rares and joining a level 40 run, claiming I have full exotic soldiers gear and 25 AR and that I’ve cleared up to 50?

this change promotes dishonesty. people will gonna lie. people will wear MF gear while being carried and does kitten in a group.

aka lying noobs everywhere.

unless they put the actual level of the person in the window that pops when you enter the fractal dungeon.

but still, the change is good for some people.

the system is good for people with alts that are fed with ascended stuff from their main with constant guild parties/friends who want to level alts.

20mb = 32 bit. 40mb 64 bit?

32 * 2 = 64. 20 * 2 = 40?
