otherwise, if you played badly coz of reasons unknown, you will be suspected of being a low level in your party, even if your level 50.

God why!? You just allowed low (fractal) levels farm high levels! This change should be good for constant groups. But they rarely have this problem. But after this patch all not experienced players will try to join high levels to farm ascended. It will be black day for all experienced players.

Why not let people choose from 1-5 levels? For example:
1 player: 1 lvl
2-5 players – over 9000 levels

they can choose 1-5. After completion 1 player have 5th level. Now they can choose from 5 to 10.

After 4 cycles all will be high enough to find a group for theirs levels without problems.

And… end of january? Really?

they could do it by level range. a level 1 can be carried by level 2 up to level 10. level 11 can be carried by level 12-20. dot dot dot.

I don’t understand what you are saying OP. You are intentionally playing sub-par to see how your group reacts?

not through out the course of the dungeon but when i feel like it. but i try to do my best if 4 of them are performing exceptionally.

i don’t do it all the time. i do random sampling. as ive said when i feel like it. if this short test is done, then i play naturally.

i like to know the attitude/personality of my pug team mates. it’s just me.

no one will take the fractal 2 player since he has no agony resistance.

the system is good for people with alts that are fed with ascended stuff from their main with constant guild parties who want to level alts. still won’t do kitten for the true low level characters who are pugging.

i don’t see the point of this change apart from the karma bonus.

Again, assume agony does not hit that level 2. Now does your mindset change?

my mindset doesn’t change because what your saying is only an assumption.

Pugging: Guards Perspective

so i’ve pugged 99% of my level in FoTM and most of my encounters with them are smooth. smooth as in no one is talking and the flow of the events are like placed like falling dominoes. everything falls together. but i encounter a few bumps while im pugging.

1.) i notice when the group becomes heavy, people start blaming people or people "DC"s.
2.) i notice when i deliberately use wall of reflection when the only target is a melee boss to size up the guardian team mate that i have, he starts to look afk and disconnect from a map.

but there are good parts

1.) some people are patient and encourages the group to do well and try again
2.) if map is impossible, all goes out well and consider it a day.
3.) patient and relaxed people don’t mind the deaths.

i size up my pugs. i try to gauge the vibe. as i said, i use wall of reflection on a melee boss. or not use the skills on harpies that i fall everytime. or use 2 spirit weapons sword and hammer at the same time. i purposely die (but there are unavoidable circumstances when i get ganked or stand on a multiple stacked aoe and appear to my partymates that i get 1 shotted and prolly wearing a mf armor (while i really wear Rurik’s armor))

How about you? How do you deal with your pugs? How was your experience with them?

+boon duration question

in Guardian

alcopaul.2156

I’m not sure about that but at 101% I am prestty much expecting it to be doubled. Anyhow its still good, like having perma retaliation and regen on GS, Mace/focus.

i think perma regen is useless if the heal is low. there will be cases that that short regen duration with high heals will be clutch for your party mates to use their own heal. people die because the damage is so overpowering that the regen heal points is not enough to get their bar over 0.

i wouldn’t mind, as i quite enjoy being able to support my allies, and what not. as to how effective it would be? still have my reserves. thing is, i don’t have a static group i run with though at this moment. so i would have to stay more versatile. and like Chris mentioned, be able to survive AND take out enemies on my own if need be.

was just thinking in my head, and it COULD have been interesting. but the more i think of it, i can, too, only find it being able to be supportive in a group setting.

but see, there will be times that you will be playing solo (at least for me like doing personal story or exploring). in my case, im not knowledgeable about having gold fast so i have to stick to one armor set. and if ill know how to get gold fast, ill not give in to that giver’s set because it is not versatile. i can do decent support roles with clerics if i wish to party with people, or carry on solo with killing mobs if i want to be solitary. no need to gear swap. saves me inventory space. and gold.

In my opinion, Magic find needs to go

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

alcopaul.2156

Prove performance is hindered.

Nearly all MF gear is offensive. It sacrifices defensive traits.

It sacrifices its primary trait (offensive or defensive) to magic find, and keeps the secondary offensive benefits.

Someone in Explorer’s gear has exactly the same offensive bonuses as someone in Knight’s gear — a tank. Nobody buys Knight’s gear because they want to maximize their offensive power.

Explorers vs Berserkers = Berserkers adds more DPS (MF vs +Critical Damage)

Explorers vs Knights = Knights adds more Defense (MF vs Toughness)

You need to only know this.

Yes, Magic Find is uselessly selfish.

anyone give any thoughts to the new Giver’s armour? it’s got toughness as the major stat, and then healing power and boon duration as minors. though only 1% for boon duration on each piece. and you lose out on power, effectively lowering your DPS.

on first glance, it doesn’t seem worth it.. but could still be interesting.

you wont be versatile. you’ll be confined to support roles only.

at least with clerics you can do dmg with GS, and if you wish to go full support, it wont be a problem.

Supportive Build?

in Guardian

Posted by: alcopaul.2156

alcopaul.2156

i play a support guardian in FoTM. i use staff (primarily for offense buff and speed buff for my allies – 15 stacks on might X 5 is a lot of dps increase) and scepter + shield for stalling strong melee targets and shield skills for prot and projectile repellant.

i have all clerics gear (armor, weapons and trinkets (with exception of 2rings and a backpiece which has power, vita and toughness for +25 AR)). my traits are 10/0/10/30/20, 10 in zeal to get the spirit weapon recharge shortened, 10 in Valor to get Strength in numbers. 30 in Honor to get battle presence, Superior Aria, the trait that shortens recharge for shouts, and resolute healer (coz sometimes people die), 20 in virtues – absolute resolution and (master of consecration or vengeful or improved spirit weapon duration [but most of the time i use improved spirit weapon duration]). I can equip wall of reflection or spirit weapons with no problems, i just adjust my trait value by clicking and no need to retrait. works for me so far.

i started to do Ascalonian Catacombs with my setup and it works for me too.

My utilites are Hold the Line and Shield of the Avenger. I modify the last spot with a Spirit weapon (defense Arrow for condi removal or heal or offense Sword for additional dps) or Stand your ground or Wall of Reflection or Retreat, depends on the map. For my Heal I use Healing Breeze. That support heal and regen helps a lot (i am a support guardian anyway). For my elite i use Renewed Focus. Tome of Courage is too cumbersome for me to use.

Runes – 3 Water and 3 Monk (you need that +150 healing power). Sigils – Life on Staff, Spear and Trident and Scepter, Energy on Shield.

eating food also helps. either +MF while booned with increase in boon duration food or + healing power and + vitality food. the grawl shaman is my only kryptonite map with pugs so i usually take the powerful potion of elemental slaying.

I kind of want to know what the devs were thinking, when they created those.

devs are testing your wisdom.

you have a cheap kitten item that is better than expensive one and you still buy the expensive one and you want the cheap kitten one to be nerfed?

i loled.

Using 5 scholar runes and a ruby orb, because you will never really stay above 90% health in 90% (made up!) of the fights:

185 Power
10% Critical damage
14 Precision

6 ruby orbs:

120 Power
12% Critical damage
84 Precision

Unless you do not really go for critical strikes, in which case neither option would be viable, the ruby orb, with a total cost of 30 silver for a full set, is just as good.

Time for the designers to tweak some numbers?

tweak some numbers like scholar runes costing 5s each.

Wear what you want to OP… if anyone has a problem with it, they aren’t the sort of players you want to run with anyway.

MF users are 10 levels below a glass cannon.

Explorers armor/accessories/weapons (power/precision/magic find) vs Berserkers armor armor/accesories/weapons (power/precision/+critical damage)

I view magic find gear as selfish. You sacrifice your party’s ability to kill fast or finish the map fast and in the end, you only get the good drops.

It’s selfish.

But you’re completely wrong, magic find is in exotics as well, which most players who invest in the set have. You’re not losing out on DPS or anything with the set, if anything the only person who really lucks out on Magic Find is guardians and warriors since their builds are dependent on three base stats (always toughness, usually power/vitality or power/precision, sometimes power/healing power). They actually added in a new Magic Find set just for them, the Toughness/Power/MF (fractals drop) since people were angry about it. Point is, it doesn’t effect your overall DPS, most can do just fine with two stats, usually power/precision, and if you can’t and you’re dying often then it your own fault for getting in the way of a “DON’T STAND THERE” boss fight/mob encounter.

Point is, it’s not selfish, if Magic Find was a party-wide stat drop rates and price inflation would be through the roof.

but you’re completely wrong. it’s not just one stat on one piece of gear that you’re sacrificing. you have 6 pieces with magic find, your hand and off-hand with magic find, your amulet 2 rings and 2 earrings with magic find.

and if you’re wearing explorer’s gear (weapon/accessories/armor), you’re +42% critical damage less compared if you’re wearing berserkers.

now tell me that there’s no significant DPS reduction on that.

It is one stat… You’re sacrificing one total stat, not just one piece of armors stat. It doesn’t matter, traits alone will cover for the lost stat, that extra 400 toughness isn’t going to effect your game at all. If you’re a bad player you’re going to die/go downed in an instance, if you’re not you’re going to live. I run Fractals 20+ with full magic find static team (bar me being a guardian using a P/V/T or P/T/HP set) and we never have wiped once. DPS isn’t a factor when it comes to runs I hope you know this by now.

Also lol @ you thinking Critical Damage is important, it isn’t. Power is a far superior stat.

i compared explorer (power, precision, mf) and berserkers (power, precision and critical damage). and it is a significant, no brainer comparison and the answer is obvious.

see, if you have 4 people wearing explorers and you as a guardian and 4 people wearing berserkers and you as a guardian, which party will finish fast?

well i know the answer… do you?

Wearing Berserker’s armor hahahahahahahaaha… oh wait, you were serious lemme laugh harder HAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Seriously just get out, Knight’s is far superior set for a reason (toughness scales amazingly). Don’t worry, I was like you once, I thought Berserker’s was a great set, got to 80 during the 3-day, fully exo’d etc,… and then I actually got wise after a month.

At any rate, magic find is money, the people who think that Magic Find sets are bad are the same people who are still stuck at Fractals 1 or 2 after nearly a month of the update.

you don’t get it, do you? ive compared 2 armors with 2 similar stats (power/precision). the difference is mf and critical damage. so which get your team to finish faster – mf or critical damage?

my answer is critical damage. how about you?

and how do you craft this “balanced” build in a capture point pvp?

It’s rather easy.

Nerf bunkering capabilities, nerf burst capabilities.

The meta will shift to balanced/heavy dps pressure builds ( like the old GW) where burst will simply have a niche role as counter comps .

More build diversity, more entertaining to watch, since you don’t die in a fart/never die, but it’s always in a cycle where you don’t know who’s going to win the fight.

Easy.

but old GW is not capture points, amirite? i mean there are capture points mechanics but it is not the focus.

do you think that LoL lasting for half an hour is the sole reason that it is the one of the most followed e-sport out there?

So how about magic find being shared party wide?

So at least even you sacrifice your ability to kill fast or finish the map fast, your team mates also get the good drops?

Or if 5 members have magic find, the total magic find percentage of the party are accumulated and the sum magic find is the magic find of each of the party members?

If that’s so, magic find is useful.

Anyway that’s another point about GW2 PvP. Just one gamemode is ridiculous.

they want it to be an esport and having different game modes will make the game not consistent and not esport material.

if you notice the esports games they have a single game mode.

longer? why should you want it to be longer? the current system is ok. or give it a time limit and the one that has the highest score when the time is up is the winner.

A bunker dominated meta really is no fun

how do you even define “balanced”? i hear people all the time saying “balanced” but they don’t even describe what is this kitten called “balanced”.

and how do you craft this “balanced” build in a capture point pvp?

It’s rather easy.

Nerf bunkering capabilities, nerf burst capabilities.

The meta will shift to balanced/heavy dps pressure builds ( like the old GW) where burst will simply have a niche role as counter comps .

More build diversity, more entertaining to watch, since you don’t die in a fart/never die, but it’s always in a cycle where you don’t know who’s going to win the fight.

Easy.

but old GW is not capture points, amirite? i mean there are capture points mechanics but it is not the focus.

i run 0/0/20/30/20 and its doing well for me so far.

20 – strength in numbers and honorable shield

the other 20 is – master of consecrations and absolute resolution

30 is battle presence, superior aria, and protective reviver

lol of course it’s not like a piano scale. They have to include the notes used by the game music and are only allowed 8 of them. If they made a strict Do Re Mi… it would sound totally wrong.

But if you do 7-1-2-3-4-5-6-7, it’s the major Do Re Mi scale.

I feel the same way. There is basically zero variety for builds. I absolutely loathe traits, I want tons of skills to play with like in GW.

builds are centered with weapons, the 4 utility skills and gear. i’m certainly sure that you’re overexaggerating about your claim about ZERO variety for builds.
