How about putting power/vitality/toughness stats and as exotics to the the Hall of Monuments’ items since exotics will be subpar anyway?

So when i make a character, i will just be concerned about leveling it to 80, then i would just go to hall of monuments to get exotic armor and use that to grind the uber ascended armor?

i’m with luigio. because those gold sellers can influence the the gem to gold rates too. people buying from gold sellers can buy gems from the bltc, kittening up the conversion rate and making it kittened up for the people who want to get gold by buying gems from a.net with real cash.

if real money is involved guys, everything is serious. it’s not just a matter of “why would a real money investor gets advantage?”. (well, these real money investors should technically get advantage, if i was a ruthless capitalist).

If they changed the price, it would just change back. It IS at market price.

no, if they change the price to a reasonable get off point and let the market roll again from there (we need this since it is not self adjusting), more people will be enticed to buy gems from bltc coz the gem->gold ratio is reasonable. it won’t change back. you need the initial jolt to get the gem to gold market going.

and to add, it will potentially put those gold sellers out of business because they could only earn a certain amount of gold per day (with all real life and programmatic factors considered) and they have to work twice or thrice or who knows as hard now. you would see 100g+5% gold going upto 10 dollars which is not profitable on their part. it could happen but a.net still has the final blows to that, that is banning them.

it would also address and solve the problems of people who don’t want to invest time in leveling and acquiring gold to buy maxed stuffs to wvwvw. if you have a real life and you just want to wvwvw and your pockets are deep, you will mostlikely buy from the bltc without having the feeling that you’ve been ripped off.

I don’t understand the people flipping out over this… how is:

White<Blue<Green<Yellow<Orange< Ascended any different or worse then

White<Blue<Green<Yellow<Orange

There is no gear treadmill. A gear treadmill would be if you needed exotic armor to complete one tier of content and then you needed ascended gear to complete the next tier. This is not at all what is happening. You can still run all the content in the game in blues.

White->Blue->Green->Yellow->Orange is a gear treadmill. It’s already far from ideal.

I tolerate it – and I wouldn’t, if Exotics were any more of a grind to get than they are now – with the implicit understanding that a full set of Exotic gear means that you are done improving your equipment, and that any equipment obtained after getting a full set of Exotics will either A) Not be any more powerful than your existing equipment, but will carry a different-but-equally-strong stat distribution that allows you to alter your build and playstyle, or Offer no mechanical advantage or improvement whatsoever, existing only as a cosmetic change to your equipment’s appearance.

The game is currently at the absolute limit of the amount of gear grind and vertical progression that I can put up with. Any more, and I’m simply not interested in the game.

no, the gear goes naturally with your level.

if your level caps at level 10 and there are more armors that goes beyond your level, then its a gear treadmill.

No, it didn’t. ArenaNet released insignias in Nightfall. Practically the same thing.

if we control the movement, it’s not self adjusting. it adjusts according to how we move it. it’s self adjusting if takes note of golds actual value and purchasing power(doing some crazy market statistical analysis) and inflation (doing some crazy statistical analysis, again.)

Ok, but where would we move it to. where the consensus is the value. which is the definition of market value, right? what the consensus is that something is worth?

About the gold sellers having a better grasp on the price of gold, why do you think that? It’s analogous to saying the a chop shop has a better idea on the value of car parts. since they get their gold though illegal means, they can sell it cheaper then market value and still make a profit.

Gold acquisition is gold acquisition. And there are no classifications of gold. Gold is gold. it is one kind. so there is no difference in quality of gold. and all of virtually who plays the game, even those who bot it, gets gold. the one who knows the best optimized way/botting knows the maximum gold output per day of the game. so they know how hard/easy gold can be acquired and also real life monetary value of gold. if gold sellers want to compete with anet and earn a buck, they could make it closer to what bltc price. but no.

you still haven’t explained how these no the real money value of gold. you just say they do. And if they have more gold then the majority of people, (artificially so, in the case of bots/hacked accounts) then would they value gold less then the average person?

/sigh

we already control the gem->gold rate.

again, we control its movement. but a.net set its initial value. it’s not self adjusting and what i mean by self adjusting is to adjust considering inflation and the value of gold.

If we control it’s movement, then it is self adjusting, as market forces will shift it to the true value of gems<->gold. Areanet set the initial value at the begging of head-start, three months ago when everyone’s purchasing power was 0. Why do you think that the price now has any relation to the initial price three months ago.

the price now has a relation to the initial price 3 months ago. it is evident in the current value of gem->gold. it is still low. if the initial price is higher and the rates are self adjusting, then bltc would have a reasonable gem-> gold conversion rates.

their system can handle rapid changes in prices. we saw this with halloween. so I would argue that if the price had started Higher, It would have immediately crashed, and come out, in the end, looking exactly like it is now.

they could go with the gold sellers price. or if i were a.net, i would secretly bot my game just to know if it tallies with the gold sellers offer (and destroy the gold earned afterwards) or if it tallies with the richest hard core players gold acquistion or to know how easy or hard gold acquisition is so that they could have hard data. why am i suggesting this? coz anybody can bot or find the most optimized way to amass gold but nobody can make gold programatically.

these gold sellers set the price of the gold based on how they acquire it and based on its main competitors price. you set the value of gold based on the lowest market price because there is no such thing as “Tyrian gold carats aka quality of gold – less quality of gold, lower price, high quality of gold, higher price”.

the spike won’t ever crash the market basing on a fact that a precursor costs 400g to acquire.

Narkosys, you evidence for that is. because if you look at the price of gems on GW2spidey, you would see that it fluctuates like any other commodity on the TP, which we know we control. therefore, we control the gem->gold price as well.

If you don’t consider going from basic to fine, fine to masterwork, masterwork to rare, rare to exotic a gear grind…then going from exotic to ascended shouldn’t be a gear grind either.

How about those who shelled cash via the BLTC to get the exotics, believing that they will be the best armor?

Changing the game’s entire philosophy all for the sake of change itself is a good way to alienate the majority of the player base that has been supporting ArenaNet since Guild Wars 1.

Changing the game’s entire philosophy like putting higher stats items, or scrapping Conquest and bringing back monks, etc. is a major blemish to their word of honor.

everybody wants to max stuff. and for those who invested lots of gold/real cash in exotic armors for their character, this better stat ascended is bad news, unless there’s a way for them to convert their maxed exotics to ascended.

How is it that you guys can read “slightly more powerful” and conclude that exotics are automatically obsolete and it’s the end of the world? O.o Have you noticed ANYTHING Anet’s done so far in GW1 or GW2? If they offer ANY sort of significant game advantage I can guarantee you they’ll take less than a week of casual gaming to obtain.

Stop judging Arenanet based on the standard set by other treadmill games when there’s no precedent for it and you have NO information on what Ascended gear will actually be.

Even if it has the same stats as exotic, but comes with an “infusion” slot, whatever that may be, it means exotic armor is obsolete, thus introducing mandatory gear grind.

it’s ok if the maxed exotic that you have can be tailored by an NPC to have an infusion slot. so your exotic is not obsolete after all.

If you played Guild Wars 1, there is a phase called infusion run where you infuse your gear to fight the Strong Mursaat.

I’m thinking that this infusion will be similar to that. Just bring your maxed exotic gear to be infused by a quest or an NPC and you’re good to go. No grind

I hope that’s the infusion that A.NET is talking about.

gold sellers usually is the best indicator of how easy/hard gold be gotten in a game so they know the reasonable value of gold.

it doesn’t matter if they use bots. all that matters is they do the most optimized method of acquiring gold. if you base the value of gold based on how much a CASUAL player earn then you are overpricing it because he won’t be close to reaching the ceiling rate of gold acquisition per day.

Gold sellers vs. BLTC

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: alcopaul.2156

alcopaul.2156

this is an overview of the system.

1.) Real money is used to buy gems which can be converted to gold
2.) Gems cannot be converted to real money and if we use legal terms and pathways (Illegal gold sellers don’t count), gold to gem has no monetary equivalency, thus it doesn’t matter if higher gold is required to convert it to gems.

Sure there should be one rate but two operating values like what we have now. i was wrong in assuming that there are two rates operating. but the initial value is too low.

i would like the conversion rate to be like 100 gems -> 2 gold and 4 gold -> 100 gems.

So my cash has a justifiable value and gems are also valuable in term of gold needed.

Gold sellers vs. BLTC

alcopaul.2156

a.net wants to value their in game currency highly by setting a very low gem to gold conversion rate while they are playing oblivious to the fact that a precursor costs almost 900$ to acquire.

why do you keep saying this? Anet doesn’t set the gem->gold rate. the rate is set by players, though the mechanisms of buying gems with gold and gold with gems.

they didn’t factor it right. they set it initially low without taking consideration of inflation/purchasing power of gold. it’s not yet even self adjusting.

players make gold in game out of thin air and bltc valuing the gold at low with an almost fixed rate is an insult to the value of cash.

i think that when a lot of people are converting gold to gems, gems value go up. and i also when people buy more gems from bltc, the gems value go up. bltc keys need gems and this event, people with gold bought gems and people without gold used money to get gems to get keys.

so you saw an almost identical spike in the graph.

as for how the price is effected, it’s not only the price effected by people buying gold with gems, it’s also effected by people paying gold for gems. more people selling gems for gold drives the price down, people buying gems with gold drive the price up. for evidence, consider that the price jumped by around 5-10 silver when halloween started. if only people who buy gems with their credit card are responsible, then what explains this?

gem to gold ratio is different from gold to gem ratio. so i guess that there are different unique factors that affect them individually

im just concerned about gem->gold ratio since in this direction, real money is used.

As has already been pointed out, though, ANet’s prices will always be higher than gold sellers’ prices, and they will likewise always be more expensive than some people are willing to pay.

but a.net has to consider the actual value of gold in game and its in game purchasing power. they have to control the market (lower the prices) to justify their gem->gold rate ratio. if they can’t lower the prices, they should raise their conversion rate by a factor determined by considering in game purchasing power of gold and the easiness/difficulty of gold acquisition.

a.net telling me that the value of legendary precursor on sale on the market is around $1112 based on the current BLTC gem->gold rates is like telling me that i have to roast my pc on the oven and enjoy a hearty meal out of it. it’s bananas.
