I would say a more apt historical comparison for the Charr would be the Japanese. The Charr were defeated by a militarily superior force (like when Com. Perry of the USA used his cannons to force Japan open for trade); which caused them to realize they needed to rapidly improve their technology to be competetive; they collectively drove themselves toward that goal at a blistering pace (in magic and then later in industrialization); but that new technological level required resources at a level the Charr did not have, which encouraged them to aggressively expand, defeat old enemies, and reclaim territories they saw as under their sphere of influence.

^LOL. I’m working on my own Charrdian. He’s level 80, but I’m trying to get him into prettier armor I like. He’s dressed like a Captain America Cat. haha.

Celestina, your Guardian is amazing looking.

I jump on Charr’s cause they’re soft.

Hopefully it’s a Charr that wants to be jumped on…else you’ll likely bleed a lot.

My problem with Charr platforming is that the Charr are so big the camera starts freaking out when I’m anywhere near a tight space. It’s truly annoying.

I was colossally disappointed that the Warband Support Elite Skill just summoned two Iron Legion nobodies.
I’d like to petition they change it to summon your sparringpartner instead.

THIS. OMG, this. I was so excited to get the Warband Elite, and the first time I tried it, I was like O__0.

Luckily, the Charrzooka does not disappoint.

Agreed, people arent giving Blood enough credit. We fought against the Flame and we beat them, but everyone just talks about those techies and the spies.

Rytlock is Blood, too. That deserves some respect. He’s more pragmatic than I thought someone from Blood would be.

Charr, the second smartest race?

Part of what makes the Charr so advanced is they are geniuses of hard work. When there’s a problem, every Charr will focus on it until the problem is fixed. It’s not that every individual Charr is a genius, it’s that collectively the Charr will smack a problem until it’s fixed.

Choosing your Legion

Meh. I knew going in that my Guardian would be an odd fit for Ash Legion, but I liked the oddballness of it. I certainly made a place for myself there.

I thought the opening storyline choices make it clear what the Legions are all about.

Overall its been a good time. I’m a story nut, so the early decisions of Ash Legion and ‘deserter’ father has only helped to round out the military/loyalty feel of the race.

haha. That’s exactly the story track I took with my Charr Guardian.

“Kiono Nightingale”

6/10. I like the first name (it sounds Japanese?), but the surname sadly doesn’t follow the Charr [Warband][Skill] convention. Nightgale would work very well, though.

Unfortunately, my Charr has the same problem:

Tsumedenko Rawr

I didn’t know anything about the game when I created my first character (I’m so glad I chose a Charr). “Tsumedenko” is Japanese for “thunder paw” and “Rawr” is dinosaur for “I love you” according to my t-shirt.

Tsume is a ash legion guardian with a gladium father. (And surfer hair. hahaha.)

It’s neat that so many people on these boards get so into the lore of the game and can speak to details about how the races work, ect. I never played GW1, so I’m always learning stuff from people here.

[B]unking with someone who’s horns match yours probably won’t matter much.

Seriously, easily quote of the day.

I was using “Retreat!” last night, and could definitely hear it on my end. Not sure others heard it, but they sure did appreciate the boon getting back to the group event fight we were failing. hahaha.

Thanks for the help.

I’m in the same situation as you; I’ve joined a few guilds but none of them ever seem active when I’m online in Crystal Desert.

If you find a guild that suits you, please spread the good news!

Charr male guardian doesn’t even HAVE a shout for Stand Your Ground ;p

When I had my Charr Guardian equipped with Stand Your Ground, he certainly did growl out “Stand…your…ground!” It’s lower pitched, but it was there.

I agree that swords don’t do the work in pure DPS, but I love them because they activate a Guardian’s burning so quickly and constantly. A Guardian’s opponent will never stop burning once he’s being hit by a Guardian’s sword. In conjunction with some condition buffing, a sword can burn anything to the ground.

I’m so glad I picked a Charr for my character. They look so beastly without being ugly. And Charr culture is hillarious. My Charr definitely makes me happy. Why would I join a fantasy game just to play as a Human?

Also, Charr are more concerned about martial discipline and ensuring Charr supremacy to care too much about this sort of stuff. If anything it’d probably be more like ancient Greece where there may be same sex relations on the side every now and then, but not focusing more on reproducing would be a big no-no.

I tend to agree with this, though I would point out that the ancient Greeks generally saw same-sex as superior because it was a relationship between two equals. Opposite sex relationships were just more necessary.

Still, sex is a sex, and a strong sexual relationship with someone is undeniably good for morale. I have a feeling that a Charr is free to get together with whomever he’s attracted to, so long as he can keep things drama-free. I’m also betting even gay Charr are encouraged to close their eyes and think of the legion on occassion, since gay Charr aren’t needed for additional hands in child raising (one of the current explanations for the evolutionary existence of gay animals and humans).

Mini map not showing all icons?

Hey, folks -

For a few weeks now, my mini-map has been on the low end of helpful. It shows icons for nearby ores, ect., but it won’t show icons like nearby armorsmiths or merchants. I have to switch to my big map just to find these guys around towns or camps.

I don’t remember this always being the case, and I haven’t been playing for long. Did I turn off an option or did a patch change things?

In addition to the dirth of icons, my mini map tends to look blurry, even in areas I’ve fully explored.

Any help would be welcome.
