Everybody needs to contribute with dmg along other stuff (support, heal) since there are no dedicated roles.
When half of the players go down because of a Champ’s ROFLstomp, that plan goes out the wayside. The OP was right to res as many downed players as he could to keep them in the game and dealing damage. I’m sure when there weren’t a bunch of players down, the OP was dealing damage, but the game should still take into account that he contributed to damage dealt by keeping other players up on their feet.
Huh, that does seem a tad unfair. If you’re successfully ressing other players, that’s definitely a worthwhile contribution.
“I can pretty much kill an orge.”
“sniff, sniff…You smell funny.”
Those are two of my favourite quotes in the entire game.
I’ve always built in a lot of Vitality into my Guardian’s build, but I’ve come to find out that Guardians aren’t usually known for their high HP values. Where, in your opinion, should I try to find myself to be at a comfortable HP value at Lv 80? Right now, I’m around 16000 HP, and am wondering if I should keep trying to push up that number using jewelry, ect, or if I’m safe to focus on other stats at this point.
Appreciate your thoughts and insights.
Tengu = Native Americans (due to how their regions are named, etc)
Ummm…you may not realize that a Tengu is a Japanese mythical creature. They’re not even “asian-inspired,” but are particular to Japan’s mythology. So, yeah, not based on Native American culture and mythology.
I actually soloed the OP’s first event a week or so back, but probably on a different server. Not all events can be soloed, for sure, but this one seems doable if you don’t have the bad luck the OP did.
Path 3 torch event is pretty rough, even for our QA and people know how to do it. I have plans to soften it’s edges a bit (read: nerf), because I honestly can’t get a group to run the darn thing. It can often take long enough to do the first event that you could have done a whole other path if you are in a PuG.
My current plan is to drop it down to 3 torches, so two players who choose tanky/support roles won’t be so punished by the content, and then adjusting the way the spawns behave to provide more of a challenge. (Plans subject to change based on testing feedback)
Thanks, Robert, for the response. It’s nice to know that you all do listen to players’ concerns. I guess I should have known the Devs were already looking into it, having heard from so many players that the path was a problem!
Like I said, I don’t mind a challenge, but without a high out-of-game level of coordination, this one didn’t seem possible. It was time-consuming/wasteful and frustrating. Eventually, one of the team just gave up on the whole idea and that was it for us giving it a go.
There are 5 torches, every torch is guarded by 3 mobs, you can all go in a big group and kill 2 mobs from each one.
Do the other mobs really not respawn if you don’t kill all three? It seemed to me that after I killed all three mobs, they were back in an instant.
Also Cleansing flames removes conditions on allies, however not yourself.
For PvE I love the torch for dps/support.
Really…? I could have sworn I’ve seen it clear my conditions before.
Why do Charr have horns?
So Logan has something to hang onto!
While Rytlock does…what exactly to Logan? ;D
I just imagined Logan riding Rytlock like a pony, using the horns as handlebars. Oh, the implications.
I dig your SantaCharr, DrGravitas. Nicely done! Now give him a beer and some meat!
Some friends and I went through the story and all the paths for Citadel of Flame this weekend. I’ve got to say I found this to be a really fun dungeon (and I love me some Rytlock), but path 3 seems unfair. I’d heard no one really does it, and now I can certainly atest to why.
I like the idea of path 3, being all sneaky, but if you get spotted and have to light the torches…most groups are kittened. The level of coordination required to get the mobs killed at the same time (because of the ungodly spawn rate) and then get the torches lit in the window is neigh-impossible using the in-game tools such as the chat window. Players have to rely on voice chat from outside the game, which is, IMHO, unfair to the players. And at least I was playing with friends! Imagine if you tried the path with people you’d just met.
I’m all for different paths featuring different challenges and types of gameplay, but I honestly believe CoF P3 requires some tweaking. At the very least the anecdotes that “Nobody ever plays it” should have the developers giving it an evil eye.
What do other folks think?
Yeah, the toys are brutal, evil little things.
Yeah, I couldn’t believe how difficult the Ventari were. I got gobsmacked several times by them this weekend before I, too, turned to the “Grab present – RUN” strategy. Even then, THEY WILL HUNT YOU DOWN. I’m pretty sure I’m not a fan.
By comparison, the dolls don’t seem quite as difficult, but still, they’re overly hard.
I love the Charr on-fours running animation. I’m shocked there are people who don’t, actually.
Better yet, just make event rewards scale based on how long players were actively working on completing it.
That would mean someone who was efficient at clearing the event would get less of a reward than someone who was kitten at it. That seems…unadvisable to me.
Scale for difficulty might be a good idea, though.
If you haven’t yet, defintely read the “OMG If you only knew this – tips for new players” thread at the top of this forum. It’s truly helpful, since much information isn’t explained in game.
Personally, Guardian made the least sense to me for a Charr. I’m not sure how much virtues and spiritual zeal fit into the Charr war machine, but there are plenty of them throughout Tyria. (Most notably, the leader of the Vigil).
Wanting to protect your warband seens like a very Charr trait to me.
I love the Charr /sleep animation. The tail wagging always makes me smile.
And while someone is sitting, you can cuddle in their lap.
In humans, hairlessness is actually a ‘negative’ trait — without a coat of hair we’re more prone to sunburn and skin injury. The common theory is that it was a mutation that early humans found attractive, and that’s the only reason why it got perpetuated in our species.
As has been mentioned above with peafowl (and many other types of birds), some physical traits develop purely for beauty’s sake, and not because they’re ‘useful’. Same is probably true for Charr horns.
Yeah, at the same time, hairlessness helped us develop our brains; it caused us the need to develop better shelter and create clothes.
Yeah, I think I’m buying into the there-for-beauty argument. I wonder if the shape and size, ect., are indicators of health? Or give off signals, like how a woman’s skin turns red when she’s ovulating?
That’s some bad luck. The Temple has been open several times in the past few weeks on the Crystal Desert.
Same reason we have wisdom teeth and fingernails? They just never lost them.
Except we’re watching wisdom teeth be removed from our genepool. The percentage of people who have them is exponentially shrinking over time, at least according to the studies I’ve recently seen referenced.
And horns are kinda bigger than teeth in the if-not-useful-then-in-the-way department. Human beings did loose vestigial ears (though we kept some muscle in the area, which is what allows some people to wiggle their ears) and massive amounts of body hair (even the hairiest dude is pretty darn hairless for a mammal). Big useless things tend to go away over the course of evolution, which is what makes me wonder if the Charr actually use their horns.
The attractiveness theories are neat…that could explain why the horns can take so many different shapes.
Midnight Blue and Lifeblood Red with brown leather trim. Looks good on a Charr.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned this, but in addition to the active skills (which are pretty useful in groups), the shield is the only weapon that passively buffs your armor. You’re stronger just for having it equipped. That has to be considered in balancing the weapons, I’m sure.
Evolutionarily, I’m wondering why the Charr have horns? They don’t ever seem to use them, and they’re kind of a big feature to not have gone away over the course of evolution if they’re not of use.
But I’ve never seen a Charr headbutt someone (ouch!) or physically lock horns with another Charr or even try at a last-ditch horn stab. Did the Charr used to do these sort of things? Is there a use for the horns now that I’m not aware of?
Thoughts and wisdom appreciated.
“CHARR NEED NO GOD.” I love that shout, so I hear that one a lot. I also hear “Ooooh. That hadda hurt,” a lot. Charr are wonderfully silly.
For a while I was hanging out with the Quaggans a lot (who doesn’t love the Quaggans?), and I kept hearing one singing “Swimming, swimming, swimming…All day long…Swimming, swimming, swiming…Makes the flippers strong.”
I found myself humming that for weeks.
Crystal Desert you say, full of Charr you say, might come there and join the party xD
Yeah, I’ve been out and about exploring the world, and I"ve run into Charr in the oddest of places…It’s fun to team up.
If you keep trying, you’ll eventually make it onto Crystal Desert. But I can confirm there are a good deal of Charr there. I’m one of them. =D
Yeah, I guess I come at it from a different perspective than other players.
Being a bigger character, I get frustrated easily by jumping puzzles. The camera freak outs are especially annoying when you’re in danger of falling with a misstep.
And I didn’t think of the Gardens as a “Jumping Puzzle.” I stumbled onto it because I’d beaten the Guardians of the Earth and entered the portal, because…why not? Aside from the Canticle of the Sun jumping puzzle, the other Canticles are more about exploring and defeating some vets. Not so much the platforming.
After getting all four canticles, I just expected more, you know? Though the achievement was kinda nice, I guess? I’ve never been a big achievement bragging rights kinda guy, though.
Trahearne wouldn’t be as bad if he were weaved into the early parts of the story AT ALL. But because he shows up so late and is suddenly made leader, it just feels like he hasn’t at all earned it.
I agree with those who’ve said that the story here is the problem, and how the episodes relate nothing to one another.
- Teleporting into a tent with flash blade and getting stuck between the sheets. :/
Oh my kittens, THIS. I had to exit an instance once because I’d done this to myself and couldn’t flash back out. Grrr.
Also, of related note, when you teleport to catch up to a running mob, and suddenly target a different mob…who’s surrounded by buddies. sigh
I agree with those who’ve said that Sword 2 needs a bit of a change.
Yeah, one of the most disappointing things about the story is that it feels like different episodes that don’t connect. Suddenly, you’re just thrust into a new storyline with characters you’ve never interacted with before (Trahearne, anyone?), with no acknowledgement of what came before. It’s jarring.
8/10, good authentic name, but engineer in ash legion? :P
Every legion needs someone who can make stuff work. And Ash loves it some bombs…
There is a Lifeblood dye (which I use, actually) and a Blood dye. Perhaps it’s one of them?
magic find doesn’t effect chests and yes jumping puzzle chests suck
I also have to break it to you that Magic Find does not affect the items in chests. See here : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magic_Find
First things first: Magic Find does not effect drops from Chests. Only from mobs.
Well… kitten. Guess I’ve learned something today. haha.
I did have some fun doing the Garden, but the reward seemed like a slap in the face for my achievement. I had to work pretty hard at getting through that jumping puzzle, and every time I failed I had to find another guardian so I can open up that portal. It was frustraiting.
I finally got the Hidden Gardens done in Mount Maelstrom. For all the trouble that Chest was (stupid Canticle of the Sun jumping puzzle with a Charr grumble, grumble), I’m really unconvinced it was worth it.
I got two green weapons which weren’t for my class, a medallion, and something else I don’t recall. And I had a fair amount of Magic Find active at the time.
Anyone else find this one not quite worth it? Or does anyone disagree? Maybe I’m just ticked because once you fall to your doom, it’s such a pain in the kitten to get back to the Hidden Gardens.
Shield: Skill #5 is very nice. Block range attacks, pushback and heal! (it heals me around 2300hp if i rememberd correctly.) And with traits it adds 90 extra thoughness
…wait, it heals? I’ve never noticed that. I mostly use it for the interrupt it provides.
“Here’s my big attack coming..!”
Bonk
“…or not.”
Update: Crystal Desert is closed again.
Yeah, there’s a nice chest at the end of this one. But it really does take a group of people to finish off the event.
Looks like you guys must have succeeded. Was astonished to see the place open and definitely took advantage. I was part of a failed group on the server earlier this week.
Thanks to everyone who opened up the place.
Crystal Desert is open. I just got some stuff there.
Hey, folks. Always happy to make new friends.
Name: azureai
Main Character: Tsumedenko Rawr (Lv 80 Guardian surfer cat)
Current Server: Crystal Desert
Interested Activities: Socialising, Dungeons, PvE (Dying to do the Citadel of Flame; Haven’t even gotten to do the story yet).
Active: A couple of nights a week after 7EST; sporadically on weekends
The only thing I don’t like is that, Fine Transmutation Stones (for level 80 items) are too rare imo.. I had only 5, and tbh I don’t even know where I got those from.. probably completing maps / dailys.. still not enough to transmute a whole armor set. But I guess that’s what the gem-shop is for……..
Yeah, I was using Transmutation Stones to keep a certain look up until Lv 80, and now I’m just storing things that look pretty until I’m sure I have everything I want. hahaha. I wish I’d even found one Fine Stone by now! I guess if worse comes to worse, I can buy them with gems…
So, I don’t really care at all how my character looks. I wish I could trade them to people who want them more that I do. I’ll keep them and try to upgrade and keep the slot stats as someone mentioned.
Yeah, it is kind of sad that they’re soulbound. Just keep them in the bank for now until the upper levels, when you’re almost certain to want a couple of them to save your upgrades.
Crystal Desert has the Temple completed – FYI.
Shield would definitely by last on my list for normal PvE as it doesn’t add any damage.
Skill 4 does direct damage in addition to providing you and your allies damage. But generally you’re correct. 5 on the Shield is a great interrupt, though, and don’t forget Shields give you a direct defensive numbers bonus.
Sadly, it sounds more like Nanking to me.
Come to think of it, how quirky the modern Charr are also reminds me of the Japanese…
You can also make a friend or ask a guildy with Jewelcrafting to make something for you. Just supply the crafting materials he/she needs. I know I certainly will do that for my buddies.
It is a little obnoxious to open an Unidentified Dye just to receive something you already have.
At least you can sell the extra dye on the Trading Post and make another player’s day…
Lankybrit, I wouldn’t destroy the Stones. Another thing they’re good for is transmuting upgrade slots. I.e., I got a new Greatsword that’s better than my current one, but I don’t want to risk losing the Major Sigil of Earth on my current Greatsword when I break it down.
Double click a Stone; throw in both swords; and I can choose the sword-look, the stats and the upgrade I like best. Boom. I have a new Greatsword with the superior stats and the Earth Sigil I didn’t want to lose. That simple.
