Karma skins are also different (and often better looking) than usual armor and weapon skins, so if you care at all about how your character looks as you’re making your way to 80, that might lean your decision to use karma, as well.

For us, it’s only been a few years. But for the characters in GW2, it’s been 250 years. Human history is filled with examples of former (sometimes bitter) enemies who are now fast friends. The US and UK, UK and France, the US and Japan, Germany and just about everyone else in Europe etc. And most of those conflicts are less than a century old!

It’s also full of grudges that won’t fade: Ireland-England; Japan-China; Russia-Mongols/China. Sometimes time doesn’t heal wounds, it makes them fester.

I seem to recall Robert mentioning that this anti-res-rush plan was meant to go into effect along with the addition of more waypoints to the dungeons and a diminishment of the high hp silvers among the trash mobs that don’t add anything but boring and pain.

Is this not the case? Have additional WPs not been added? If not yet, I could imagine Twilight Arbor being a HUGE pain right now.

First, comparing a two-handed weapon to a one-handed is not the best comparison. A one-handed weapon’s versitility is always going to necessitate it being a little worse that a two-handed weapon in a one v. one match up.

Second, the developers should really be looking into our other weapons long before they get to the sword, which is perfectly viable. Unlike, say, the scepter, which should be the subject of a serious overhaul.

I realize by looking at this charts that I have exaggerated the charrs height in my head for some reason. They are not that much taller then humans.

Don’t forget that the linked tables all seem to show Charr is in their normal, hunched posture. When a Charr stands up straight (which they will do in several of their animations, so we know they can), the Charr are several inches taller.

3. If I am interpreting you correctly, the Charr (in your scenario) would be the offensive? Anyway, the Norn are used to the coldness of the Shiverpeaks, whereas the cold would damper the Charr’s spirits…

You do realize the Charr are covered in fur? And they already hold a lot of the lands in the north. It’s not like they have no experience with cold. Also, it’s kitten difficult to dampen Charr spirits for battle; they’re raised to want battle.

I agree with those who have said that, without alliances, the Charr win.

The sylvari are connected to the dream, but when they die that connection is severed.

I’m pretty sure that’s not true. Aren’t their memories forever kept a part of the Dream? That’s part of the Nightmare Court’s idea, to scar the dream with bad memories.

I think that’s part of why so many people believe the Sylvari return to the Dream. At least their memories do.

I think the problem is how long the dungeons remain uncontested. I don’t mind doing the events to uncontest the dungeon, but it’s annoying to have to uncontest a dungeon again after doing one path. When a dungeon is uncontested, it should remain so long enough to complete all three paths without speed running.

Even the more spiritual, nice Norn are likely to be irked by the Dredge, who destroy the environment around the Norn settlements.

And since the Norn have taken such a high place among the races of Tyria, their opinion of the other races are going to travel further and carry more weight than other opinions.

"Improving new player experience.." Thanks!

azureai.9764

Improving the new player experience to make it easier for new players to learn how to play GW2, enter the game world, and more quickly learn the game without being overwhelmed.

I was glad to read this among the many new features coming to GW2 in 2013. I was a brand new player not long ago, not having any MMORPG experience, and if my friend hadn’t been right there watching me play and giving me pointers on what to do, I would have been completely lost. Ultimately, if he hadn’t have been there, I’m betting I would have just given up on the game as not my style.

Though GW2 gets many things right and was certainly attractive enough to make me want to play, in game explanations of how to play are virtually non-existent. Right down to the controls and keybindings, GW2 seems to assume players have knowledge they very well may not have. The forums here are full of fantastic resources and players who are willing to share knowledge, the game itself links to its fantastic wiki with detailed information and strategy…the in-game explains none of that right now.

I’m glad to see Anet taking the initiative on this so new players have a better experience. I, for one, will certainly be more inclined to show my non-MMORPG friends the game if I know I won’t have to explain every little thing to them because the structure is there to teach them in-game.

I ran into an event that had spawned on the Crystal Desert map in the western Fields of Ruin. It prompted me to collect corrupted ore near the Charr mines there. I had obviously gotten to the area well after the event had started, as it warned me there was only one miner left alive. I raced there, and…no miners anywhere. None on the ground to res, none alive to be seen (even though 1 was still indicated on the event info as being alive). There was no orr to be collected, not even by killing the branded minions inside the event area.

Seemed to me that the event has stalled and bugged out. Just thought it was worth a mention.

"Hold the Line!" vs. "Save Yourselves!"

in Guardian

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

I realized earlier this week that I was using “Hold the Line!” in PvE and “Save Yourselves!” would almost certainly be a better choice unless I’m missing something. Here’s the comparison:

Shout
Grant protection and regeneration to allies.

*Protection: 4 s
*Regeneration: 6 s (780 health)
*Range: 600

*Recharge Time: 35
*Skill Cost: 6

Shout
Draw conditions from nearby allies to yourself. Gain multiple boons for a short duration.

*Fury: 10 s
*Vigor: 10 s
*Might: 10 s
*Protection: 10 s
*Regeneration: 10 s (1300 health)
*Swiftness: 10 s
*Retaliation: 10 s
*Breaks stun
*Range: 600
(NOTE: In PvP and WvW, I believe the duration on these are reduced to 5s).

*Recharge Time: 60
*Skill Cost: 3

Why is “Hold the Line!” considered a higher tier skill than “Save Yourselves!”? Is a 25s less recharge really worth 5 less boons and 4-6 sec. less of regen and protection? I realize “Save Yourselves!” draws conditions to me, but when I’m alone, that’s not going to matter. And in groups, I can certainly just break any conditions I’ve taken to myself after using “Save Yourselves!”, since I know they’re coming.

Is there something I’m missing here? Is “Hold the Line!” somehow vastly superior to “Save Yourselves!” and I just don’t see it?

Just made the plunge.

Community's Voice: Dungeons

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

A lot of the lower level dungeons are dreadful to run at the level they’re opened to you. (I.e., who wants to run Twilight Arbor at Lv. 50-55.) Some are even horrible on Level 80s because you’re reduced down to a lower level and yet still treated like you’re level 80. Getting swarmed by a ton of respawning mobs that can all darn near one-hit you and take forever to kill because of their high HP makes groups want to just run through the dungeon instead of actually do the dungeon. And that makes me not want to ever go back, personally.

If you’re gonna have super high hp bosses give them all phases. If I can down a boss 20% without trouble its unlikely I’ll struggle with the last 80%.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. Some of the story bosses are so interesting, because they have steps and you have to change things up. Even something like the reviving Gherron boss fight is interesting because you have to go back and forth a little (but the fight doesn’t take forever). Citadel of Flame is easily the most fun dungeon of the bunch. It’s challenging without being soul-shattering, and it’s relatively quick.

Why is some gear non-salvageable?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

Yeah, the karma items are the only normally-salvageable items I’m aware of that you can’t salvage. I don’t understand the reason why, either. If it’s so you can’t convert karma into gold…that’s not exactly a great exchange anyway for the rate more salvaged goods go for. Also, when you’re level 80 and you’ve gotten the exotics you want, why not let a player convert karma into gold? Karma isn’t doing much for that player anyway.

The only reason I can think of to not allow a player to salvage a karma item is so newer players will keep them around for a bit and realize that karma items look unique from other weapons and armors in game.

Sword is a 1 by 1 kind of weapon.

It’s true that Sword is a really good choice for boss battles, but that doesn’t mean it can’t handle more than one mob at a time. The 1 chain thwacks everything in front of you. I’m constantly using it on the undead in Orr when they run up to me in groups of three. The only problem sword has at handling mobs is when one gets behind you (and even then I think I may have even seen the sword hit mobs behind me a few times in the early chain), but that makes sense…It’s a sword.

Not to mention you can just pair a sword with any off hand, like a torch, for AoE.

Greatsword’s auto attack also has the benefit of constant might.

Which is great, but does precious little when you need to quickly burn through someone’s armor. The weapons are about choices.

CoF Armor

Second, the tail uses a male model regardless of gender. Literally, this is the only armor set that would need to be altered to account for the different charr genders, but that wasn’t done. There was time to make some armor sets look completely different on human females or cut out pieces of clothing that were getting in the way of cleavage, midriffs or what have you. Was there time to make sure the molten tail effect accounted for female charr? Obviously, not. The one time Anet went the extra mile to give charr something special for a set every race can wear and it turned out to be a half kitten job.

The masculine look of the armor even on female Charr may in part be intentional. After all, the Flame Legion don’t allow women in its ranks, so it makes sense that any Flame Legion armor wouldn’t be quite right on a female Charr. But then there’s some issues you bring up that do appear to be an oversight, as well.

Champion Orge Chieftan in Blazewood Steppes

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

My friend and I ran into a bugged event last night in the southern Blazewood Steppes in the Crystal Desert server. A Champion Orge Chieftan had spawned in one of the Ogre camps, and we went off to slay it. It wasn’t too difficult at first, but then it knocked us back with an area effect and regenerated ALL off its health. It didn’t act like it reset, it was just – boop! – completely rehealed.

This happened several times. Even if I immediately broke the knockdown and teleported to him, he’d be healed. We got him down to 20% health at one point, and it still healed him full. Even if my friend was unaffected because he was at range and I got knocked down, even if my friend was still shooting, this happened.

We finally managed to kill the thing and complete the event by just piling on pure DPS, the event completed and the AIs started to walk away…then the thing immediately respawned. The AIs talked to it as they continued to run away. This time no mini map icon displaying it as an event, and the Champion still showed the bugged heal behavior. So we walked away.

It seemed really bugged to me. Hopefully someone can look into it.

The problem with sword is it is bad against mobs.

What kind of trouble are you having with mobs with the sword?

I use a sword/shield and greatsword, and I rarely have trouble with mobs. The sword in what I main, and it burns right through mobs, especially with the amount of condition damage I have on the thing. If I get swarmed by 4 or more mobs, I switch over to the Greatsword. The sword’s also great against bosses, since it keeps burning up constantly.

Though I understand the OP’s concerns, I do have to mention that I think part of the point of the 1 chain is to activate Justice as quickly as possible. It does five hits in one chain (though the third part can be annoying because it misses the hitbox on a lot of objects). I’d bet that’s the reason it doesn’t have a boon or something like the hammer.

Also, though Flashing Blade does shockingly little damage, it has a very short recovery period. You can use it multiple times in an extended fight to blind your opponent, as well as gap close on an opponent. If they increased the damage, the recovery rate would probably have to be extended.
