Group Events?

Yeah, a group event will always have a [Group Event] in the notification describing it. Often they involve Champions that a player would have no hope of defeating on their own.

Here’s a good example of a low-level group event that happens often in Diessa Plateau:

What if it’s MADE by a Charr?

The description says, “No charr were harmed in the creation of this plushie.”

That is the actual description.

I was annoyed that my plushie won’t show up while I have my sword and shield on unless I’ve got my weapons drawn. When I first appled the skin, I thought I had a glitch – I even took off my shield and it didn’t appear. I only noticed later while doing a dungeon that it had finally appeared.

It’s a little cuter than I wanted, though. hahaha.

Why not give tokens in story mode ?

I agree that something should be done to make revisiting story mode more palatable. If only for the sake of newer players being able to convince experienced players to help them complete the story.

If not dungeon tokens, extra karma or maybe a chance for a special item could be reasons to explore story again.

The new AC...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

I ran AC P2 last night with guildies, mostly on their lower level alts. We wiped on the Spider Queen on our first encounter, but adapted by the next time and nuked her.

I thought the new graveling builds were a lot more entertaining. The scavengers were espeically fun to watch frantically burrow around.

The Ghost Eater boss was frustraiting to figure out, since little explanation was given in game (the theme of GW2). I ended up killing one of the oozes in a trap ring by accident and made the connection. But it wasn’t easy to play around and puzzle while the Ghost Eater was nuking us with cripple and vulnerability! We ended up filling all 3 traps (which I now realize was unnecessary), and finally caught the Ghost Eater in one. Unfortunately, at some point, even though the trap was full of energy and going off, the boss’ ghost shield wouldn’t remove. He also couldn’t seem to move out of that trap and into a new one, at least for a good while. After a long bit of coaxing, he moved into a new trap and we finished him off. It was a frustrating boss fight, but overall I enjoyed the dungeon. It was definitely neat to see Detha’s traps actually be integral to the fight (instead of near useless). And the reduction in mob HP was a fantastic decision.

Overall, I was pleased, I had fun and look forward to the new paths. But I do have concern what would happen to a group of Lv 35s in the supposed “easiest” and earliest dungeon. My group never wiped on the boss, but we know each other and had higher level people with us (myself being on a Lv 80). Without those bonuses, I’m sure we would have wiped multiple times while searching for the way to beat the boss. Further in-game explanations next time would be much appreciated.

Keep in mind that the game uses an anti-grinding system that makes drops from enemies plummet after killing that enemy for more than 30 minutes. As Ilithis said, you’re better off farming TA.

I actually didn’t know that. I did my little farm runs over the course of a day, in spurts between joining guildies with dungeon runs and such. Does that reset the process at all?

Just curious here. The Personal Story is fun and all, but the rewards are pretty paltry for everything you have to do to complete it. And, considering you have to complete a Lv80 dungeon to even get to the point where you’re awarded one single Pact Weapon, I couldn’t believe they were just rares. Chances are, just by virtue of being Lv80 and doing the dungeon, you’ve come across a rare.

Why not reward anyone who takes the time to complete the Personal Story with an exotic?

People aren’t asking that the boss not knock people into the lava. That’s obviously part of the boss. People are asking that players who get knocked into the lava be placed in a place they can be ressed.

Under the most recent dungeon res rules, a player who is knocked into the lava stays there until the fight is over, permanently hampering the group. If two players get knocked down early, the boss will quickly become painful.

Ash would likely guide the Legions toward toppling the Inquest and that would cripple the Asura’s ability to get concensus on anything.

Caudecus Manor Ridiculous for lvl 45 dungeon?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

I can understand the OP’s frustrations. The Manor is the second lowest level dungeon, yet even for level 80s its one of the biggest headaches. It’s one thing for Arah to be a (annoying) challenge, but CM’s challenge level coupled by the fact that everyone is level 45 (or reduced to 45) certainly aches of troubles.

Pulls are difficult on several paths because of the sheer number of mobs. One wrong pull (and there are so few correct ones) will get you carpetted by high-HP Silvers. Even for level 80s, dealing with multiple high-HP silvers is as annoying as it is tedious. The dungeon just becomes a death-addled, not fun crawl.

If the aim of this dungeon is to teach players how to pull and use the environment, it’s not doing it. You don’t give a person a new art student a carving knife and expect him to create the statue of David. Instead of presenting such challenging (and arguably unfair) pulls in a level 45 dungeon, they should have tapered those challenges in. As designed, the Manor isn’t a very good fairly-new-to-dungeons and mid-levels-player dungeon. It’s just not.

CM can be a difficult dungeon to run because it requires a level of teamwork which far overshadows AC. Many of the enemies cause huge stacks of bleeds, knock backs and just mega loads of damage which requires the party to pull carefully and position themselves.

…I can see how a level 45 can see CM as an impossible task. If you imagine a full group of level 45s and non of them have ever been there then yeah….. A group of well geared level 80s can easily wipe. I think the issue here is the teamwork gap required between here and AC.

Great post. And from the above, I’m sure you can tell that I think the gab between the Catacombs (a fun challenge) and the Manor (a giant headache at any level) is too vast.

AreaNet’s been saying they’d like to do better at developing the game to ease in newer players (which, for all its good traits, supporting new players is an area where the game certainly falls flat). Come the new dungeon patch, here’s a place where they can do just that.

Since other lava battles have gotten the safety net

Hm, let us consider this statement.

Crucible of Eternity @ Evolved Devourer – No safety net
Citadel of Flame @ Crea rescue – No safety net
Fractal of the Mist @ Ascended Grawl – No safety net

I can’t remember the Evolved Devourer battle, but the other two are false comparisons. You would almost have to be aiming to fall into lava on either of those fights. A party member falling into the lava isn’t common, unlike the Nokk fight. The Crea rescue isn’t even a boss fight; you don’t need all of the players focusing on taking down one high HP mob like you do against Nokk.

Nokk clearly wasn’t designed with the new dungeon waypointing rules in mind. And I suspect he’ll get a rework in the next dungeon patch (including, I hope to all kittening gods, a moved waypoint).

It is a terribly difficult fight if a couple of your teammates get knocked into the lava and can’t be ressed under the new waypointing rules. I agree that this seems like an oversight.

Then again, I suppose if your whole party wipes you can waypoint back. At least by that point the annoying spawns on the bridge shouldn’t be there. (And you won’t waypoint right into the middle of being swarmed – that waypoint seriously needs to be moved.)

Tbh Spirit weapon WAS kinda overpowered in sPvP solo. You can’t damage them.

They should have just made the Spirit Weapons vulnerable to crowd control, then. It’s not like they lasted that long, even with the proper traiting (in which case, you’re sacrificing other traits).

If the Spirits were invulnerable but short lived and suseptible to crowd control, that would have made them viable, fair and unique. They are none of those things now.

Event Vets don't count for Daily?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

A couple of days ago, my friend and I were doing our Daily in the Cursed Shore. Daily Veterans was one of the requirements.

We followed a couple of meta chains and did some events involving Veteran zombies, including the event chain following the Asura in the mecha suit and the event revolving around killing a veteran gladiator. There were several veterans in these events.

When we were done with the events, and even though we got the experience for the kills on the Veterans, our Dailies didn’t register the Daily Veteran kills. It wasn’t until we found some of the Veteran Giants wandering around the Cursed Shore that we were able to get the Daily Veteran to register.

This has got to be a bug, right? I assume Vets from events are meant to count toward your Daily Veteran totals.

But, if you want to move on to Caudicus’ Manor, I’d wait until a much higher level. That place is a headache. A pity that the lower level dungeons are also the most annoying.

There’s a lot more to do when you’re level 80 than you might think. Someone earlier correctly pointed you to the “I’m Level 80…now what?” thread stickied at the top of this forum.

Level 76 blues are fine for exploring (which it seems you still have a good amount left to do! ), but I’d be wary of that equipment for higher level dungeons and definitely shy from Fractals wearing that (unless you’re with good-natured friends). If you’re looking to purchase gear, your Order from your story (Priory, Whispers or Vigil) sells some very nice high level stuff in their home instance.

But Gold isn’t the only way to get great armor. Crafting is actually the best way to make the weapons and armor you want. If you’re not level 400 in a crafting profession, you should definitely get there (or make a friend you can keep supplied…haha). Also: Karma vendors in Orr, the Mystic Forge and doing a few low level dungeon crawls can get you quickly into some superior armor and weapons.

Rewards for Completing Story Again?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: azureai.9764

azureai.9764

So last night I was among a group of friends helping someone complete a story that I’d already done before. It made me wonder about the reward I got at the end.

Since story mode doesn’t reward players with dungeon tokens, is the reward of karma, experience and gold any greater for story? If not, is there really any reason to run story again if you’ve done it once before? Some stories can turn out to be a longer, more aggrivating affair than their explorable counterparts.

Of course, helping a bud is its own reward, but getting someone to run story with you if you haven’t made in-game friends must be tough if the story doesn’t give extra rewards to compensate for the lack of dungeon tokens.

More Waypoints Still Incoming?

I recall in the past some folks from AreaNet mentioning that more waypoints would be incoming as the dungeons were rebuilt a bit. Running from a far-away Waypoint (if that needs to happen) is never fun.

Are we still expecting more waypoints in dungeons in the future? Did I just make up hearing someone mention that was coming?

I’m surprised no one in our guild party knew about this, we were all on TS as well …

Still not sure how well the ‘wall’ strategy would have worked with our group. We were 3 rangers, 1 thief and I was on my guardian.

My last CoF2 party had this exact make-up and we managed to do it eventually (though we failed a couple of times first). What we ended up doing was having the rangers drag and kite the trash mobs far away from Magg so the thief and guardian could easily spot the Assassins, target them, and take them out.

The assassins are immune to most crowd control, but turns out chill and cripple work on them. Between figuring that out and working out the strategy above, we easily beat the new Magg section.

The lack of damage on the #2 skill makes it unpressable unless your in pursuit, and the #3 skill is weak because you have to stop and cast it.

Sword 2 isn’t about the damage (though the damage is admittedly shockingly horrible). It’s a blind and gap closer with a short recharge. It’s meant to be spammed. If the damage were increased, the recharge time would have to be, as well.

In addition to being a projectile (blessed few for Guardians), Sword 3 also blocks incoming projectiles.

People here complain as if damage is the only thing these skills do. The damage on the Sword is scaled back because the Sword does other things, too. More defensive things. Like most of the Guardian skills, the Sword suffers because it does multiple things at once. Maybe a little tweaking might be called for on the Sword, but it’s certainly not the Guardian’s worst weapon. If the devs are going to be looking at a Guardian weapons rebalance, they certainly need to be looking to non-sword weapons first.
