So…essentially a huge rant about mesmers and thieves alone and wrapping it under the guise of genuine criticism. Nice.
Anyone who thinks that Null Field which only an idiot would remain in for more than one second should be an elite skill…I mean mind blows. If it was so kitten awesome, every mesmer would be running with it. But they don’t do they?
On the weakness of that observation alone this entire “OMG nerf thieves/mesmers” post deserves to be ignored.
This is a non issue. Abuse is easily ignored…unless they physically threaten to come to your house and beat you up.
Besides it’s hardly surprising that you get abused if you interrupt two people in the middle of a duel. Very brave that. If there are just 2/3 people in a server and you see them fighting…stay away and ask if you can fight one of them next.
Seriously, there are plenty of servers you can go to get your hotjoin fix. I do it all the time myself.
I’ve played a lot in both and 8v8 just encourages bad play. Too many people promotes a zerg mentality where skill is far less valuable and strategy boils down to who’s lucky enough to have more people on point.
Plus with 15 other people on the map you don’t get to know anyone really. Since I’ve started played 5v5 exclusively, I’ve met lots of people and gotten to know them better. You get to learn individual playstyles with duels lasting longer too.
In fact, I suggest a 3v3 mode. To me this seems just about perfect for a good strategic game and lots of individualized fun.
I’m not suggesting we get rid of 8v8. Just that the smaller ones come first so that fewer people leave. That’s the only disadvantage of 5v5 so far. Sooner or later the room will empty out and since it’s buried at the bottom, no newer players join up.
I’ve spent the past two days trying to win the same number of tournaments as on my previous server. This is ridiculous – I lose loot+rank points….all for nothing. For god’s sake fix this at a priority!
What’s the point of allowing premades to hook up with PUGs? Anet has to stop catering so much to teamwork and favor the vast base of solo players who don’t like forming groups and depending on other people to play the game.
Keep the two separate. That way you can also have a fair ranking system where you lose simply because you’re facing a premade. The game should be designed so that such a situation is never even possible.
(edited by bhagwad.4281)
I wish I knew. This is a kind of a big thing. I don’t know why premades are even allowed to fight against pugs. The two worlds and universes need to be separate. They should never be able to interact. Pugs should always meet only pugs.
Like in regular sPvP.
This is my favorite map. It’s all conquest and nothing else and nice and spread out for good fun fights. Don’t try and take that away from it.
Worst map is capricorn. Too squished together and promotes zerging.
This is obviously wrong. Map completion which is a pure PvE thing should never require the cooperation of other people. That’s why even dungeon points don’t count towards it.
I had to fork out $10 + 4g to be able to afford the transfer to another server so I could get map completion. Of course I won’t be switching back because I couldn’t care less which server I’m on.
Have you recently changed your Server?
forgot about the changing server bug.. here a link to that topic
Wow – this is exactly true! I changed servers to get WvW map completion. Spent $10 + 4g doing it so no way I’m transferring back. But man! Now I have to earn more chests in this server than in the previous one? The hell?
Fortunately I don’t have too many tournament wins on that one. Small blessings I guess
Since the last patch I’m not getting match win chests from either the single tournament setup or the three round ones. Won three single rounds in the Spirit Watch map and reached the second level in the three tournament mode.
No chest and no glory/rank points either. Submitted a bug report, but would like a confirmation of this if it’s happening to anyone else…
have you tried qing for the 3 round map see if that gives you a reward?
Haven’t tried that. Let me do it sometime tomorrow and see…
Just tried…no chest though I reached the second round (foefire legacy)
have you tried qing for the 3 round map see if that gives you a reward?
Haven’t tried that. Let me do it sometime tomorrow and see…
Won another match and no chest yet. Submitted ticket. Wish there was some way to track it though…
if the problem persists i would open a ticket.. but as it stands ive been getting chests fine from spirit watch..
How have you been getting them? In your inbox?
So I’ve won two matches in the new “Spirit Watch” map and no chest. Haven’t got it by mail, and it’s not there in inventory either. And there’s no pop up on the bottom right corner allowing you to click it and get your rewards.
Bug? Sounds like a very basic thing to make sure of no?
I had thought for some time about making this post, for a couple of days in fact, knowing that some wouldn’t agree, but decided it is something we need to broach.
I’m talking in particular about the collapse of SoS and the subsequent transfer of people off of it. Before I continue let me be clear, SoS is a great server that I respect, it held the number 1 spot for many weeks, and many great people were responsible for this. No one can ever take that away.
In any event, as a WvW community we’ve come to a cross road now. That is, just prior to Free transfers closing, JQ stacked itself and made itself a formidable force. Initially JQ struggled, particularly over the weekends but it soon became apparent JQ couldn’t be stopped. JQ has recruited better than others and has now, much like SoS previously, placed itself in a position to win repeatedly.
As this became obvious a number of people left SoS. Why? Only they can tell you, but the reverberations are still being felt. It set a precedence and in turn other people may have thought for some time about it, ultimately some did in fact decide to leave. The symbolism of this was subsequently felt throughout the SoS community and in turn others left, a snowball effect. As I type this I’m aware of similar things happening within the EU WvW community.
Why is it an issue? Because free transfers have FINISHED.
People now have to use gems to transfer, some may have the gold to get the gems others may have to farm more, a percentage will have to use real money to purchase gems.
Why is this relevant? Because GW2 is designed to make money and by people using gems to transfer they have in turn undermined the WvW community by reinforcing that. Let me explain.
JQ was going to win, everyone could see that. With free transfers ended, it would be expected that JQ would win for a long time.
At that time, the pressure was on ArenaNet. If JQ was simply going to win forever and ArenaNet let it continue that way, with nothing but ppt to focus on then it would upset the community greatly. Now I guess what’s sad is that it would have taken time, weeks if not months for ArenaNet to do something. It’s no secret that the WvW community is placed far behind PvE and sPvP, there would be in no hurry to make changes.
However, that pressure and any immediacy with it is now significantly less, for 2 reasons.
1) The WvW community can ‘manage’ itself. If people are unhappy that JQ is winning or in the future BG, it’s ok. The community will start to transfer to a different server, that’s high population and within the same tier or one tier removed.
2) The business that makes the game makes MONEY. Anyone within that infrastructure that cared about JQ dominance, that wanted to address these issues and the future of WvW has had their influence undermined by the money that’s being made by transfers. The corporates will be standing back saying ‘OMG don’t change it, were making money, just leave it and see what happens. Why didn’t you stop free transfers sooner!!??’. Actually the worst case scenario is that they try and reinforce the transfer trend.
So that’s where we are at, nothing needs to change because we can use 1800 gems (very high server) which is just under 35g (adjusted) to solve our own problems.
At this point there’s nothing more to be said. If you didn’t think about the server you were on prior to free transfers closing, perhaps you should have, are things really THAT bad there, I don’t believe so. The server where you currently are is OK.
So we are now in the position of ‘do we use gems to transfer?’. If you care about WvW, don’t transfer. Think about server pride, about what fun means to you and how to win, without winning all the time should your server get less ppt than others and what that all means to ArenaNet.
If you have recently transferred, then be happy where you are. Place pressure on those that make the changes if you are unhappy sometime in the future. But don’t transfer, in the long run, the WvW community does not benefit, those that don’t care about WvW do.
Respect
I transferred to Blackgate for map completion. I now have a shiny star in my name
Ok, I just tested out the retaliation. There are no noticeable differences from the patch. It applies exactly the same. It deals damage exactly the same. Having defender and other phantasms up still results in multiple hits of retaliation. Application duration is still the same, and I successfully stacked it up to a visible 28 seconds of duration from the leap combo and an immediate cry of frustration. This patch will have absolutely 0 impact on this build.
Hmm…I was only able to stack upto 25 seconds. Maybe I’ll test again later and see.
Bad news. Turns out we can’t have more than 25 seconds retal in all (assuming each stack gives only 5 seconds). So gotta spread them out a bit that’s all I guess.
I’m not certain but I don’t think it’ll affect this build that much. But some real life experience will clarify that.
It seems there is yet another interpretation of what the change to retaliation means. If that’s correct, it makes no real difference to this build.
Trying to download patch now. Let’s see.
On second thoughts, this is probably not how duration stacking works. It might run sequentially. So if you have 1 second of retal left, all the other stacks must have run out. This is somewhat better. But it still means that if you’re about to pile on 4 stacks of retal from cry, you’d better be sure that you have at most just one stack remaining, otherwise you’re wasting it.
For this, I suggest Anet shows the number of stacks of retal remaining which currently it doesn’t so we know whether or not to apply it. So if we see we have 3 stacks, we could happily do a leap/swap combo and if we have 4 stacks, we can hold off on the cry.
I don’t know. Retaliation stacks duration, not intensity. I have no idea what this change means. Once I get home I’ll immediately do some testing to find out, but right now that patch note looks like it was written by someone with absolutely 0 knowledge of how that boon functions.
It means just that…only 5 stacks can be applied. So you lose out if you apply more. Meaning say you do a temporal curtain swap. That gives you 2 stacks. Then you shatter three clones with cry of frustration and that gives you 4 with illusionary personna. Instead of 6 stacks = (6 x5 ) 30 seconds, you get just 5 stacks = 25 seconds.
It gets worse. So you have 5 stacks whose timer is running out at an equal rate. Say you have just 1 second of retal left from those 5 stacks, and you do another full cry shatter, you’ll waste all of it because those 5 stacks haven’t run out yet!
Moral of the story – spread your retal out a bit. Don’t apply all of it at once. If you get two stacks from leap/swap, wait at least 5 seconds before you do a full cry shatter to get all 4 stacks.
At least this is how I think it’ll work. Will know more once I do some testing after the patch.
Edit: See below for some clarifications on how I think this will work.
(edited by bhagwad.4281)
Nobody in this thread agrees with OP except me it seems I’m sure it’s not against the rules, but that doesn’t mean it’s a nice thing to do. The other day I was losing a keep in home border, and couldn’t call in reinforcements because the border was already full. Turns out a 20 man guild zerg was busy doing a JP instead of helping us, so we lost the keep.
If OP’s border was full at the time they were dueling, they should have found an empty border to do it. If there was no queue, however, let them duel all they want
What next? Complaining that people don’t follow the zerg and go on doing what they think is best instead?
There should be a way to target yourself and see what you look like to other people. Reasons for this:
1. Vanity – I want to see how the “star” looks next to my name after map completion. I want to see the title being displayed. A huge reason I play MMOs is to progress and I like to admire my achievements. We did this all the time in GW1. What’s the point of getting your own star if you can’t even see it?
Also, I want to see the icon of how I look to other people in party chat.
2. Mesmers need to know whether they look any different from their clones. Right now I have to manually ask someone to check and see.
I know right? Who would have thought that to get something called a legendary, players would have to do well in all aspect of the game?!
Stop your QQ and help your server.
Getting killed inWvW? Stop your QQ and learn your class.
Want to do it the easy way? Spend gold and transfer…legendaries are already a money pit, so what’s an extra bit of gold?
Except that legendary weapons are an entirely PvE concept. The fact that you don’t have to sPvP proves it. Map completion should not require any PvP because even that is entirely a PvE idea. You can even do jumping puzzles to get your badges.
In GW1, vanquisher and cartographer were both 100% PvE. See a trend? WvW is PvP and should have nothing to do with achieving PvE goals.
Good god I just checked the cost of server transfers! 1800 gems! I’m never going to pay that much for transferring – especially since I don’t even care which world I’m on. I just wanted map completion
Sucks. Now I have to depend on other people for what is essentially a PvE goal.
I have an idea. How about if you die in WvW, your death is permanent till the next server reset?
Pretty cool huh?
Is there a quick way to see how much control every server has of each map at any given moment?
I’m doing my map completion and have 2/4. So I want to switch to a server that controls those points that I don’t have. Is there any way to quickly get that information?
I second this. Give me comparable WvW rewards and I’ll come and play. Otherwise I’m there just for JP badges and map completion.
Killing NPCs in a PvE zone gives you loot. You directly benefit from it. Fighting each other in WvW brings no benefit.
Absolutely incorrect. It’s obvious you’ve never actually fought anyone in WvW (or are just spouting BS, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt).
If you really want badges I get more from farming the jumping puzzles than I do from actually completing them. There is a lot of benefit, even if the only reason one is in WvW is to grind the Gift of Battle.
The only way it is “rational” to not fight in the jumping puzzle (from a reward standpoint) is if you are really unskilled and melt before the enemy. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt again and assume you’re just mis-defining “rational” and are actually pretty decent at the game.
My badge drop rate from killing people is horrible. Also, I don’t have to sit and wait for people to come. I can complete the entire thing in less than 10 minutes and get a guaranteed drop of 3-6 badges. I repeat this three times for three maps and it’s a very good reward ratio for the time spent there.
Fortunately I’ve met a lot of intelligent people who realize it’s a waste of time fighting in JPs. We just cautiously move around each other and we both benefit. Enemy or not, in the long run cooperation pays off.
Those who fight in JPs are pretty much tools of Anet. They fight….because Anet tells them to. Because the other guy is red. Meaning if their own teammates were red they would mindlessly go into a berserk rage and try to kill or die themselves. Can’t reason with these guys.
Unfortunately irrational people end up ruining it for those who are more sensible. Lots of us come to WvW just for the badges and we all benefit by getting what we want. In addition, killing someone actually has a pretty kittenty badge drop rate. The risk/reward ratio is extremely poor.
So for those who fight “just because it’s red”, consider that you’re being manipulated. You fight just because you’re told to fight. You say it’s a PvP map. So what? It doesn’t force you to do anything. If you feel compelled to be belligerent just because of a color…well then you’re a tool. It’s as simple as that.
So I’ve learnt that when I do JPs as a mesmer, I equip my focus and coolly pull off the ledge those who attack me. I’m not interested in killing them – not worth my time. They’re just annoyances to be gotten rid of when they come between me and my badges.
So please – don’t waste my time attacking me in JPs. Be a bit sensible and we’ll all get what we came here for without any pesky situations along the way.
So according to your reasoning we shouldnt fight each other at all in WvW, we should just take our share of keeps and towers and then just take turns flipping SM against the NPC’s. Because fighting other people in a WvW zone is being ‘manipulated’ by anet.
Just like killing NPC’s in a PvE zone is getting ‘manipulated’ by anet. And you call others tools?
I kill people in the JP’s because thats where I often find the best small group, non-lol-zerg fights. The traps, the cliffs all help make the fights very tactical at times.
Killing NPCs in a PvE zone gives you loot. You directly benefit from it. Fighting each other in WvW brings no benefit. There’s a difference.
Indeed, taking turns holding keeps in WvW is the best way to maximize your rewards with least headache. But as I said before, irrational people will likely spoil it for the rest of us.
Doing something for no benefit to yourself just because you’re told to do it is the very definition of a tool.
Never understood why people cared about Rank..
It’s just skins =D Play to have fun, and to dominate your foes. Most people (including myself) need more than “it’s just fun” to play. Either give me skins, bragging rights, a new visual etc. (like a star for those who have map completion).
This is one of the reasons I never waste time in WvW. You get nothing for the time and effort you put in there. I only go for the jumping puzzles to get my badges and destroy the siege plans. If it wasn’t for the glory and rank, I wouldn’t to sPvP either.
Loot, skins, rank/bragging rights are integral to the game. Without that I would never play no matter how much “fun” it is.
You destroy siege plans? THIS IS BLASPHEMY! And here I am spending god knows how many badges and gold a day BUYING those plans.
TBH, if you applied your philosophy to RL, there wouldn’t be any point living either :P
True. This is why Albert Camus postulated that suicide is the only rational response to the absurd human condition.
Believe me, I struggle with this question almost every day.
I destroy all siege plans as soon as I get them since they just waste inventory space.
Please at least just port to your base and drop the siege plans for your servermates who do care about WvW.
I thought of doing that yesterday, but they were all soulbound. I can’t even give them away.
If you double click it in your inventory like you’re going to deploy it but instead of deploying it, hit the little “drop” arrow next to your skill bar, it will drop it on the ground for someone else to pick up.
Hmm…ok. I’ll do that today.
I destroy all siege plans as soon as I get them since they just waste inventory space.
Please at least just port to your base and drop the siege plans for your servermates who do care about WvW.
I thought of doing that yesterday, but they were all soulbound. I can’t even give them away.
Those who fight in JPs are pretty much tools of Anet. They fight….because Anet tells them to. Because the other guy is red.
Wait what? Oh snap! Oh burn! You are jumping in a jumping puzzle because Anet tells you to, you are using a mesmer portal for portaling because Anet tells you.. See what I did there, Mr. Tool?
If only there was free server transfers still going on I would totally jump on the enemy server just to gank you and the rest of these silly pve heroes who qq here. The sweet, sweet tears of silly pvers :>
I do the jumping puzzles to benefit myself. I profit from it. So “being a tool” doesn’t apply here. When you try and foolishly kill someone just because of a color when you can just as easily lose and get no benefit whatsoever, that makes you a tool.
And let’s stop pretending that those who attack others in JPs are some 1v1 beasts. I’m r30 myself in PvP – if I don’t manage to pull you off a ledge, I’m just as willing to leave you on your back. But it’s waste of time and I’d rather not do it. Because I don’t do anything with no benefit to myself.
Ah but the thing is, you’ve been tricked by anet into thinking JP rewards are worth anything. BoH for Legendary? Pffff, 5 minutes in photoshop and I’ll get you something that looks cooler. Siege plans? Rather useless if you don’t wvw.
Now why do we kill people? Same reason why people play video games really, for the fun of it. The prestige of racking up those player kills (a progression that is as meaningful as sPvP rank to some people). The thrill of smashing your enemy into oblivion and inflating your e-ego. It’s obvious different people are going to derive different benefits and experiences from the same feature, but in the end, all that matters is the enjoyment.
Addressing OP’s point, “peace” is never suppose to be preserved in a PvP map. Peace is detrimental to your server’s glory, giving enemies free badges and siege plans. Peace should be broken and invaders kicked off the JP in the most humiliating ways possible. Peace only exists when all the red is dead. PvE QQers trying to get legendary in easy mode can go QQ more.
At least legendary rewards are tangible. You can show them off to someone. “Prestige” of racking up player kills is unverifiable. There’s no way for another person to objectively tell how many people you’ve killed.
I wish “fun” was enough of a motivation for me. It’s not. I want tangible rewards. “Server glory” is as illogical as patriotism. I mean, what exactly are you feeling proud about? Who cares which server wins? How do I personally benefit from what my server does? I destroy all siege plans as soon as I get them since they just waste inventory space.
When I do something, I like to get something out of it. “Fun” is just one component. So by all means, try and kill me when doing the JP. Just realize that you have an equal chance of getting killed and to tell the truth I’m not even interested in killing you – just pushing you off the ledge so that I can continue my way to the badges.
You will be nothing but an annoyance. And you’re doing no favors to yourself. Like I said earlier, irrational people spoil it for the rest of us. Fortunately for me I have the tools to brush you off.
P.S: Just yesterday I was attacked by a thief and a warrior at the same time in the JP. Thief also popped thieves guild. I pulled both of them off the ledge and got two badgesl I wasn’t expecting that since my drop rate for badges when killing people in WvW is horrible.
Now THAT’s an idea. Give me a guaranteed badge drop for killing players and I just might think it worth my while to finish you off when you attack me in the JP instead of just removing you from my vicinity.
Tool?

I asked why and how I could benefit…and he wasn’t able to give me an answer.
Did you know that WvW points also giving you bonuses in PvE? Like Crafting bonuses etc?
I’ll get those bonuses even if I don’t personally participate.
Because I don’t benefit in any way. “Fun” is never a good enough motivator.
There’s nothing mysterious about why people don’t WvW. You get nothing to show for the time you spend there unlike every other activity in the game. No gear, no star next to your name (like with map completion), no “rank” system, no bragging rights….nothing. Seeing another guy in PvE, there is no way to tell whether or not he’s a WvW star.
Merely saying “Oh it’s a lot of fun” is not enough. “Just fun” isn’t good enough given that you can also be having fun in other parts of the game and have something to show for it. sPvP allows you to rank up, get cool /rank emotes, and sweet gear. There’s something to achieve. Something to look forward to. Something to show to others and say “See – I’m awesome!”.
Others say that if your server is winning you get PvE benefits. True, but those will happen regardless of whether I participate or not. It’s the prisoner’s dilemma.
It might be more attractive if it even meant something to die in WvW. Like once you die there your character is erased – meaning true hardcore mode. That’s a real sense of danger and excitement. But right now, there’s no penalty. Armor repairs are not bank breaking.
There are two reasons I enter WvW:
1. Jumping puzzles to get badges for legendaries. I destroy the siege weapon plans.
2. Map completion.
And when I enter a WvW map, I broadcast my intentions to get as many people to come with me. Someone once told me to help them take some keep. I asked why and how I could benefit…and he wasn’t able to give me an answer.
Long story short – introduce better incentives and people will come. Otherwise forget it.
I recently got an idea from the immortal mesmer build where you take out three sword clones and let them auto attack. Within 10 seconds, your target is stripped of all boons even if they’re a guardian with a crapton of buffs on them.
Seems simple, but it works!
I don’t get why people try and defend an OP skill. Saying that “it works 50% of the time” is irrelevant. Being bugged and being OP are two entirely different things (unless it’s OP because it’s bugged which isn’t the case here)
Never understood why people cared about Rank..
It’s just skins =D Play to have fun, and to dominate your foes.
Most people (including myself) need more than “it’s just fun” to play. Either give me skins, bragging rights, a new visual etc. (like a star for those who have map completion).

One weakness of this build might be against professions that utilize minions to do their damage. Minion necromancers come to mind since they don’t do their damage directly and are not hit by retaliation.
In sPvP of course, condition removal is definitely an issue. I try and place the curtain under the warden for some cleansing. In a pinch, I’ll take null field.
It is interesting you identify that as a weakness, because it is. However, there is only 1 class in the game able to exploit that weakness, and that is a purely phantasm based mesmer. That build is the only build ever that I have come across and am at a complete loss as to how to beat it. I have been killed by other builds, but can chalk that up to mistakes. The pure phantasm mesmer build I faced completely dismantled this build, and I still have no honest idea how to counter it.
With that being said, only a mesmer phantasm build can pull that off. No other class can do that. Necromancer minions have low hp, and so they get wiped out on retaliation damage very quickly. Additionally, the necro minions do so little damage, you barely even notice them.
Rangers can also try to do this, and their pets can actually hurt a bit. The problem is that the pets able to do the high damage have very low hp. They will die quickly on retaliation, and once the pets die, the ranger is out of luck. The reason that the mesmer phantasm build can do it is because of how the phantasms work. The phantasms have enough hp that they are difficult for my build to kill them quickly. They also hit very hard, and in large chunks (swordsmen) meaning retaliation damage will not kill them. Even if they do die, they can be resummoned quickly to continue doing the damage.
You’re right. I was beaten thrice yesterday by a phantasm mesmer utilizing the swordsman. Even then, it took a really long time. I was thinking to myself that if I had my own phantasm build (like I used to), I would not be having this problem. But well….I guess every build needs to have its counter eh?
Overall I’ll still run with this build because of how much fun it is. Thieves are suddenly zero threat, elementals don’t know what hit them and rangers just auto attack themselves to death. That’s worth more than being whacked by the odd phantasm mesmer.
One weakness of this build might be against professions that utilize minions to do their damage. Minion necromancers come to mind since they don’t do their damage directly and are not hit by retaliation.

To quote the devs. “thiefs give new players alot of trouble, but kinda fade out the higher level of play you get to”
New player tries sPVP
New player gets one shot by Thief
New player new plays sPVP again
Dev’s wonder why sPVP isn’t more popularPretty much everyone here got oneshotted by a thief when he got in spvp for the first time, it’s normal and one day you just learn how they work and they’re going not to be a problem anymore….you know if you are new to something called pvp in every game you’re supposed to die, even really badly vs more skilled/experienced players….and you have 2 choices:
1 – You can cry like a kid and stop playing forever because someone killed you, maybe going on forums whining.
2 – You can try to figure out how he managed to kill you and where you did wrong, something like…“Well he got me in 2 secs, but he can’t kill that other more experienced player running my same spec, what is he doing to avoid his burst? Why i can’t do the same? Let’s try to figure out how he plays my same class, if he can laugh at thieves so it’s possible to do so…and i must learn how”
If you take a look at qq thief posts you’ll se that high rank players don’t have problems with thieves at all, expec the ones playing high level paids so it’s just your choice if you want to learn counters or just sit here crying for mom…nothing more, nothing less.
Not everyone complaining about a thief is new. I’m the OP and I’m almost lvl 30. Hardly a new player or one who gives up. If you read my original post, you’ll see I had specifically said that I know how to fight thieves. I’ve killed tons of them and enjoyed it.
But this particular combo has to be nerfed for any of the reasons already mentioned.
what im saying is that its not going to change much, people are still going to whine and complain when its simply an l2p issue
Anyone who says “l2p” is a horrible player themselves. It’s just a cover up for their insecurity.
That will in fact work. This was with no bloodlust, and runes of the eagle. I would suggest trying it against the NPCs though as its a better representation of what you can expect.
Let me try it out tomorrow and see if I can land a 14k backstab.
So I followed the advice of people here and am not able to get 14k backstab damage against the light golem in the mists. The max I got was 5k. Of course, I just created the thief so I don’t know much. Here is my set up.
Weapon Set: D/D
Traits: Deadly Arts – 30. Critical Strikes – 30. I’ve taken Hidden killer, Mug, dagger training.
Assasin’s signet for increased damage.
Using the C&D + Steal + Backstab combo, I’m able to remove not more than 7k health in all. Backstab only gives me 5.3k even with crit. Steal only damages for 1.3k.
How do I get the massive numbers as shown in the OP linked screenshots? Namely:
Steal: 7k
C&D: 5k
Backstab: 14k
I’m using runes of air and sigils of air.
So… not only did OP lie about his stats, but he’s also completely ignorant of how the Backstab combo actually works (“100% stealth, you can’t even see them, they aren’t even required to be out of stealth to do the combo”)…
FAIL.
Here’s a tip, OP, next time ask for help on the Thief forum and you’ll get a buttload of responses giving you detailed help on how to counter the Thief BS combo with a Mesmer. If you’re still having trouble after that and you’ve spent a month at it, come and complain, and we’ll be happy to hear it.
Until then, L2P.
“L2P” is probably the laziest response one can give, and completely undeserving of any serious response. The assumption that you’re superior in skill to a person whom you’ve never faced and you don’t know anything about just comes across as poorly concealed insecurity.
The exact mechanics of going down in 0.5 seconds from 100% health are irrelevant. The fact that it happened is all you need to know.
